Four 1/4 I cannot believe but I finished this at one night / there’s nothing to binge at Netflix stars 😆

Well, I liked the blurb and story was just captured me at first pages. There was no long explanations or long emotional dilemmas! It started with first encounter our hero and heroine after their messy breakup! Our heroine Clementine ( yeap she is totally darling 😊)had amnesia which helped her starting over with her life and rethinking what she did wrong with her relationship.
It’s not only second chance love romance is also second chance to be wise, to believe in yourself and accept your flaws to make better choices novel!
I loved the heroine. I’m happy that I didn’t see her past version before the assault because I sense she has too many self respect, self confidence and too many versions problems starting with her self loathing! I never be a fan of doormat and crybaby kinda heroines!
Our hero Ed made me a little anxious at first by treating a little harsh to Clem, our straightforward, stubborn and brave heroine ( at least this is her definition after the amnesia) but as I caught glimpses about their past he seemed like patient, compassionate guy who also hurt a lot after the breakup which brought more sense to his actions!

I cut the point because of the assailant of Clem because it was so predictable and reason beyond her actions are a little bit cheesy. It’s impossible that nobody sensed something is wrong with this character!
But as a summary I loved hero and heroine! I love the way they’ve found each other by forgetting their pasts, getting mature and changed in good way to understand and respect each other. I loved their chemistry. And of course I loved their love story! Yeap, I enjoyed this book so far!

I am total trash for the amnesia shtick and always will be. And I am tickled pink that romance authors are still pillaging that old well with their writing buckets like like it’s the 1990’s. And for that, I thank you, Kylie Scott.

Repeat is Kylie Scott's newest romance, and it's a refreshing, original, sexy, and fun read. I adored both Ed and Clementine and fell in love with their story.

Clem is a 25 year old who is lost. Literally. After an attack, she was left without her memory. She had no idea who she was, what she liked, and she couldn't even recognize her sister. Slowly, she's learning what she's interested in and things she likes, but it's taking time and a little trial and error. When she finds a tattoo on herself that someone recognizes as the work of a local artist, she decides to track this guy down and see if she can get some more insight on her life. She does not expect the response she gets when she walks into the tattoo parlor.

Ed is the tattoo artist and also Clem's most recent ex-boyfriend, though the details of their breakup are unknown to Clem. She doesn't recognize Ed, but she's immediately pulled to him and obviously attracted to him. Clem is not the same girl he was when she broke up with Ed, that's apparent, but Ed is leary. Still he can't help but to answer her questions about herself and finds himself spending more time with her. Even though Clem is different, these two seem to click more than ever. It's hard for Clem to see why she ever let this man go.

This story was endearing, Clem was endearing. I loved watching her find herself and discover new things. And I really freaking loved Ed. He was amazing. Their love story is definitely unique. I love the idea of a couple falling in love twice. There was, of course, some drama, angst, and some suspense, but overall it was a really fun read.

As of right now (Jan 2019) the book is available exclusively on audio, and I can't recommend listening to it enough. One of my favorite female narrators, Andi Ardnt, narrates it and she does a fantastic job. This was an amazing listen!

Love and life sure can be scary. But not living your best life, not loving as hard as you can…what a terrible waste that would be. And the man standing in front of me is the best of everything.

I found myself loving this story from the very beginning. Second chance romances are one of my favorite tropes, and Kylie Scott took this trope and added a cool twist that I have only ever encountered in one other story years ago. Three months after a messy breakup with her boyfriend, Clementine is physically attacked by a stranger which leaves her with a permanent case of amnesia. Clem shows up at her ex’s tattoo shop, hoping to get some insights into her past but is met with hostility from Ed and his co-workers.

When Clem explains her predicament to Ed, it seems to soften his attitude just the tiniest bit and as they come to spend time together, he notices that Clem is no longer the neurotic and insecure woman that she once was. These two get the chance to fall in love all over again as if it were the first time and it was so much fun getting to experience it with them. Plus there’s the added bonus of some mystery and suspense thrown in, which I have to admit, was pretty easy to solve and yet I still enjoyed seeing how the story unfolded.

This is going down as one of my top favorite reads by Kylie Scott. There were no sexy bad boy rockers to be found anywhere in this story and yet I loved it something fierce!

Here are my overall ratings:

Heroine: 5

Angst: 4

5 The Sum of Our Experiences Stars ⭐

“She misses him. Sometimes our hearts are wiser than our heads.”

After a brutal mugging, Clementine has been left with no memory. Now living with her sister, she is trying to piece together the jigsaw pieces of her life. Yet doing so brings her back to the one person that hoped to never see her again.

Still handsome as fuck. Being around him would be easier if my heart didn’t beat faster at the sight of him. Perhaps my body really does still remember the feel of his hands, what it was like to have his mouth on me.

After locating the tattooist who did her shoulder piece, Clem learns that Ed Larsen was previously her ex-boyfriend who she almost broke. It’s a bitter truth that the girl she no longer recognizes, left a lot of hurt in her wake with friends and loved ones.

“Clem, you fucked me up. You fucked us up. And I’m not going to forgive you for that whether you remember doing it or not.

Ed Larsen is struggling to understand how the one person he once deeply loved and now resents, doesn’t even know who he is. Although he doesn’t want Clem back in his life, he can’t turn her away when he realizes, she might be in actual danger. To make matters worse, the new Clem is a revelation and he’s helpless to fall yet again.

Repeat was a book about second chances and redefining oneself. I adored watching Clem and Ed reconnecting, rediscovering intimacy and creating new memories. It was inevitable that they would find their way back to each other. It was edgy, wonderfully written and perfect for a hopeless romantic like myself. Definitely one of my faves.

Meh. I’d probably rate this a 2.5.

The heroine and the hero break up over a misunderstanding and then she’s attacked and loses her memory. It’s been like 3 months (?) or so since their breakup and he was supposedly so in love with her he wanted to marry her and yet he went on dates a week after they broke up. There’s no details as to whether he kissed or slept with these women either, which is a huge mistake on the authors part. She should have clarified if anything happens with OW. Anyway, if the heroine hadn’t come looking for him to find out more about her past (she has amnesia) he never would have gone after her. I find the fact that he started dating so quickly after they broke up and the fact that he didn’t give a shit to go after her and prove her wrong about the misunderstanding makes it hard to believe he really loved her.

Even after seeing her again and hanging out with her he still goes on dates with this OW. To top it all off, he takes the fucking girl to the heroines favorite restaurant. What a douche.

Throw in the unoriginal plot twist at the end and you get yourself 2 stars.

Clementine is trying to find out what kind of person her old self has been.

Before the attack.

Because this new Clem. The one without a memory...
She's so not the same person.

Why did old Clem leave the love of her life Ed?
Why does he hate her?

What kind of pizza is her favorite?

Will any of these and other important questions ever find answers or will she just have to start a new and fresh life?

What will happen with Clem & Ed?
Will there be a Happily Ever After??
READ THE BOOK TO FIND OUT!

Well, that was ... heartbreaking and mysterious and adorable and funny!

I really loved reading it.

The first thing you notice is the pretty/sexy cover and I love a good cover. I can still love a good book with a horrible cover, but I just love it when the cover fits the story, or the guy in the book!

It's a bit frustrating that we only get Clem's POV - we so need to know what Ed's thinking - why they broke up, what happened, how their life used to be. But we're moving at this slow pace with Clem - finding out who she was and what her life was like. And it was great to get to know her just like she is just now getting to know herself.

It was a really beautiful second-chance romance!

I Loved it! I loved the adorable doggie moments. The funny brother moments. We have some exciting moments, some sexy ones, some frustrating ones. Great romance!

Some tiny little things I didn't love-love ...

I wanted the book to be a bit ... more? Longer. More depth to everything. The story felt a bit rushed all over. Like an editor cut too much of it. It starts with Clem visiting Ed's tattoo shop after her attack and we're right there in the present. I would've loved a prologue or just something more. I don't even know what I mean exactly, but I wanted a bit more of everything.

Even a bit more of Ed. We see a lot of him. He's an adorable and sexy and kind person. But we don't really know him. Or we never really had the chance to fall for him because we already knew that we had to love him, because he's the ex we want Clem to get back with. Ugh, I don't even make sense in my own head now! Forget about it. ☺
It was a great romance! It could've just been a bit more amazingly done!

Another thing - there are so many people in here. I felt like I had missed some books and/or that some - like Leif's - were still coming, but nobody told us about it. ☺ (Gimmeee!)
But I really loved reading this book!!!!

REPEAT was an adorable and heartbreaking second-chance love story! Run to your nearest amazon for your own Ed - this one is MINE!!!

Re-read 07/03/21

4 stars

I seem to be re-reading most of Kylie Scott’s books. There’s just something about them that really draws me. I think it’s a fine balance between angsty and sweet + funny.

But anyway, about this book, as far as amnesia tropes go, this is one of the best.

I certainly liked how the plot was simple yet it kept you wanting to know more and understand more - not necessarily only in terms of the mystery, but also about the couple’s past. About how they used to be with each other, why and how they fell in love the first time.

I’ll be honest that some things could have been better explained in my opinion.

- Things such as how come he didn’t find out about her assault before she showed up at his shop.
- Also, after he did find out (I get that he was hurt because of the break up but.. ) he was still kind of mean to her, and dismissive.
- He proclaimed he was extremely in love with her before the break up (which happened a month before - and he was about to propose at the time) and I get that he was hurt but considering the way and the reason she broke up with him, it has me thinking he kinda settled without having any answers and just tried to move on - which doesn’t scream “crazy in love” to me.
- He also tried to move on quite quickly. (less than a month) Even after knowing she had no memories of her life at all, and was going through something life changing and terrifying. I think that behaviour coupled with his “I hate you” attitude wasn’t really how someone acts when they love someone and that someone needs them.
- Also, they all (him and his friends) acted as if she was the worst person in the world but no one really questioned what were her motives for believing what she did. No one tried to understand her and her doubts. I mean, someone doesn’t just wake up one morning convinced that the love of her life is cheating on her. She wasn’t some mentally ill psycho obsessed with fictitious accounts of events.

I guess all in all, I loved the concept of the book and how it unfolded, but I didn’t like how the “old” Clem was portrayed (like she was the problem- because she wasn’t). I also think that Ed should have been held more accountable for playing his own part in the break up (letting go too easily and without an explanation) and lastly I didn’t like that it was kind of glossed over when everything was revealed and we got answers as to why she broke up with him pre-amnesia. I think she deserved an apology as well, she almost died so many times, and he was a bit of a d**k to her after she showed up with amnesia, looking for answers. I feel like in this one, as is the case with a lot of romance reads, the guy can mess up immensely (not the case here, it’s just an example) but when it’s the girl that makes even the smallest mistake and hurts him in the least she has to ”atone” a lot and all their friends seem to be on the same page about that. I actually think all her behaviours were justified (considering what we find out at the end)pre and post amnesia and I needed her to stop saying sorry so much.

Is the before me or after me a better me?

I’ve spent more of my life as the after me than the before me. I had a major car accident in my late teens that left me with a similar brain injury to Clementine, the main character in Repeat. This is the first time I’ve realised this and I’m surprised to realise that I still wonder if the before accident me was a better me than the current me. If you ask my family or friends, they claim they love both me’s but I know deep down, my family would have happily throttled both me’s too.

Meeting Clementine and watching her process and analyse each situation brings back memories of my recovery. I didn’t lose all my memories and was lucky enough to remember everyone from my previous life. I remembered how to make a cup of coffee but for the life of me, couldn’t remember where the coffee cups were. I was looking at buildings that I had driven by numerous times with completely fresh eyes. I’m lucky that with some deep prodding, some memories will come back to me, like people I've met before. Hubby thinks I have selected memory problems…but I guess we’ll never know. 😉

So, of course Repeat hit me a lot harder than the average reader/listener. Seeing Clementine cover her scar self-consciously, try to act blasé when her feelings are hurt, and having loved ones hover constantly, were things I could relate to. You frequently find yourself questioning your thoughts, actions and reactions. Is this how I should react? Am I overreacting? Are they disappointed because I’m reacting differently to how I would have previously reacted? It’s no wonder Clementine and I suffered from severe headaches and a need to recharge often.

You can’t help but feel that Clementine was given a second chance at happiness by having her brain injury. Obviously, you don’t want her to suffer as she did, but there’s this little part of me that thinks she’s happier now than she would have been living her previous life. Maybe, it’s a case of making the best out of what life throws you. Again, I could completely relate to that as I felt invincible and some would even say, a little reckless. You become a person who looks for their happy place and won't settle for anything less. Why waste your life being miserable?

The relationship between Clementine and Ed starts off a little rough and even felt a little hopeless. How on earth is Ed supposed to forgive Clementine for her lack of faith in him? But, then again, how could he not, considering she has no previous memory of it all. I loved seeing them struggle through the attraction and feelings that refuse to go away.

Andi Arndt is a fantastic narrator and she was perfectly matched to Kylie Scott’s amazing story. Andi brings these characters to life and easily makes me feel their emotions. I had no problems telling when the characters changed and I’m a big fan of her male voice.

Repeat is not a long story and I easily finished it in two sessions…which I quickly regretted that I rushed. I loved every moment of Clementine and Ed’s journey to happiness and could definitely see them in their happy ever after. I highly recommend and I’m adding it to my Best-of-the-Bestest Goodreads list.

Dear Ms Scott, please consider writing a story for all of Ed and Clementine’s siblings. Thanks. Hugs and smooches, Stacey (who’s not often Sassy, but likes to think she is) xoxoxo

A solid second-chance romance.

Our poor heroine wakes up in the hospital with amnesia after a vicious attack and robbery. She is trying to figure out who she was before this all happened so she goes into a tattoo shop where she realizes she got her tattoo done. Her ex-boyfriend was the tattoo artist, but she has no idea who he is. And, that's how we get started on this book.

She has the kind of amnesia where she remembers how to do daily things, like brushing her teeth, but doesn't remember much of anything else. No people, places, movies, songs, foods, etc... So she is going around experiencing most things for the first time and trying to learn about herself all over again.

It has to be weird seeing the world through fresh eyes again. It would be like how toddlers and little kids get all excited about mundane stuff and we are all,"yeah, yeah, yeah, kid, we've all seen how the doorstop can boing if you play with it. Stop acting you just discovered the mystery of music. And, get out of the bathroom! Where's your father? Can't I have just one minute of privacy?"

Imagine the things we see in everyday life that seem like nothing to us.

Nothing to see here. Move along.

Yeah, I would have really liked it if the author had played up that aspect a little more. But, after a couple of things she is "trying for the first time", the story is more focused on the relationship between her and her ex. Because, of course she's going to find him attractive. She found him attractive before losing her memory. And, since she was the one who had ended their relationship, he has many unresolved feelings. Plus, isn't it always a good idea to try and fix something that has broken?

On the other hand, sometimes you just need to let it go, man.

There's also the issue of her attack. Her attacker doesn't seem to be finished. Maybe she didn't have enough money in her purse and that made him mad. That would certainly be the case if someone robbed me. I carry no cash ever.

I really liked both of the main characters in this book. He was a little jerky at first, but that was because she had broken his heart. He got sweet real fast, though. A contender for a book boyfriend for sure.

seeing all the four/five star reviews, idk know where i went wrong with this one. this book was meh, and it might be partially my fault.

the MCs broke up bcs of a misunderstanding. the h accused the H of something he didnt do, and she dumped him. instead of straightening things out; he just wallow in hurt, anger, and betrayal, then went on a date with another girl a week after. WTH?!?!?!

the h got mugged some time after the break up. she suffered a head/brain injury and lost her memory. i was here for the amnesia trope, and im VERY pleased that the story didnt have dual timelines or flashback chapters (reasons for my aversion to second chance romances).

the h’s newfound no-filter personality was the highlight of the book for me. the romance was cute and sweet with the H being (still kinda prickly seeing as he wasnt over the break up, but also) all protective over the h’s well being cuz her attacker hadnt been found.

the suspense was poorly done since it was predictable and anticlimactic, required suspension of disbelief on your part, and was pretty much crammed in the last chapter. there was just enough to get the story going which wasnt necessarily a bad thing.

im not sure what i wanted more from this, but i enjoyed it while it lasted. holler me if you know more romance with amnesia please!

sexy is the ripple and the V you see when hes shirtless and wears only sweatpants.

sexy is the bulge and the ass globes you see when hes only in his boxer briefs.

NOT sexy is him prancing around the house naked 24/7 like cavemen...

even cavemen wear cloth to cover their bits. i cant remember any details about the story to name what else i liked and didnt like about this book. thats how much the Hs nakedness grated on my nerves. like dude, dont conceal but also dont reveal too much. im all for the naked positivity, but some parts should remain a mystery is all im sayin. 🖐

Overall, I enjoyed this book. The beginning was a bit slow moving and it took awhile (about 30%) before I become fully engaged, but once that happened, I fell in love with the character and their unique love story. I also appreciated that the amnesia plot-line was creatively written and lacked the usual clichés so common with this trope. That said, there were times when some "suspension of disbelief" were required but not enough for it to hamper the story for me. All in all, Repeat was an good afternoon read.

I've become a huge fan of Australian contemporary romance author, Kylie Scott. Lately, all of her romances have been set in the U.S. I get that setting a story outside of the U.S. or Great Britain reduces readership appeal, and Kylie Scott deserves that everyone has a chance to appreciate her wonderful storytelling. She creates very realistic settings and I was able to picture downtown Portland (Maine) and all the quaint shops in Clem and Ed's section of the world.

Clem is recovering from a near fatal assault, and the damage to her brain results in a loss of all her long term memories. While she is recuperating from her attack, someone recognizes a tattoo on Clem's shoulder as being the work of a local tattoo artist, Ed Larsen. When Clem searches out the tattoo studio, she is shocked to find that she is a very unwelcome visitor. Turns out that she left Ed Larsen three months previously, breaking his heart and making enemies of everyone in the studio. Clem went there searching for answers to questions about her past life, but she realizes from everyone's comments that she must have been very high maintenance indeed. No wonder everyone wanted to eject her from the premises at first sight.

But Ed can't seem to stay away from her or stop worrying about Clem when her car is subsequently vandalized. Is this a random act, or is Clem being stalked by the same person who attacked her and left her for dead?

Unwilling to take any chances, Clem's sister Francine enlists Ed's help, moving Clem back into their old condo so that Clem is not alone while Francine (a police officer) is scheduled to works nights. Clem objects to this plan: she sees no reason for either Francine or Ed to worry about the vandalism, but a third act of vandalism at the book shop Clem is working at seals her fate and she agrees to stay with Ed until her stalker is caught.

I really enjoyed seeing Clem evolve from a person with no past into someone who refuses to be depressed by all that she has lost, deciding instead to take each day as it comes. The new Clem has no filter and often asks extremely uncomfortable questions that had me choking with laughter. Clem's "clean slate"/ no filter personality is hard for everyone to adjust to, including Ed.

Soon it is obvious that Ed still has feelings for Clem; but having been burned by her once, he is hesitant to open himself up to her again. Clem, on her part, can't remember loving Ed, but she soon realizes why she might have loved him passionately in the past: Ed is a beautiful person, inside and out.

There are a few twists and turns and plenty of melodrama in this riveting story. I loved Clem's relationship with Gordy, Ed's Staffordshire terrier. (Even I wanted to feed that "very good dog" some table scraps!) Clem gets to watch Die Hard "for the first time" over again, and read all her old favourites "for the first time" - again - because of her total amnesia. This was a great trip down memory lane: Jane Eyre, Pride and Prejudice, and The Flame and the Flower, among many other old favourites, were fondly dusted off for a good read. We share in Clem's delight in discovering her old favourites all over again.

I can't wait for the next book in this series - hopefully about Ed's brother, Lief Larsen! Highly recommended!

It feels like such a long time since I read a Kylie Scott book and this one was so much fun.
Amnesia is always entertaining when done right IMO (and this story certainly was).

Clementine and Ed's journey was not only one of rediscovery but also one of new beginnings and the narrative here kept me heavily invested in the storyline as well as intrigued with observing their romance blossom again for a second time. Loved it so much.💕

Emotional, sexy and entertaining with a hint of suspense. You could call this a second chance love story because really that is what it is, in essence!!!!

The ending felt rushed. But guess it wasn't a big deal. Enjoyable and interesting read.
It was also different from any other amnesia books I've read before. I was expecting flashbacks and partial return of memory from a heroine, but got none of that here. And I can't help but wonder... if I lost all my memory tomorrow, what kind of person would I be "the second time around"? :D

Original review 4/7/2019

Repeat is the newest release from Kylie Scott and I loved it from beginning to end. Although I do agree with another reviewer who said the ending felt rushed, it still doesn't change the fact that I loved this story. Clem wakes up in the hospital after a violent attack and has no memory of anyone in her life. As she tries to find her new self she ends up in a tattoo shop where she got her work done to hopefully get answers. There she meets Ed, her bitter ex-boyfriend. I loved Clem and how she didn't try to be who she was but embraced her new self. Also the romance lover in me loved how she found her way back to Ed and even though she has no memory of him, I loved how she was still drawn to him. Ed was amazing, you can totally understand his bitterness but I loved how he feel in love again with the new Clem. I hope we get stories from the two other Larsen brothers.

“Love and life sure can be scary."
description

Repeat is a beautiful contemporary romance by one of my all-time favorite authors Kyle Scott. After a traumatic accident, Clementine Johns is researching her life. Through her investigation, she reenters the life of her ex-boyfriend, Ed. Clementine remembers nothing and Ed remembers everything. Imagine having the opportunity to repeat a stage in your life but this time you are a completely different person.

"...not loving as hard as you can…what a terrible waste that would be.”
Told in Clementine's POV, Repeat is an absolutely stunning read. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of Clementine and Ed rediscovering the love they had, the love they can have, and the love they lost. The plot is quite complex and the subject matter brought back a tidal wave of emotions. Who wouldn't want a second chance at something they lost?
“Stay with me, Ed.”
Overall, Repeat is a fresh and unique contemporary romance with complex characters and a truly fascinating plot. It will appeal to readers who enjoy a second chance romance and of course who doesn't love a hot tattooed hero?

All the love for this audible release. This really is the best encapsulated, standalone romance I’ve read in an age. It’s an unusual story which is part of the strength because unlike most romance, it wasn’t a familiar storyline. The characters are equal measures of feisty, stubborn, loyal and caring and I loved them both very quickly. There's a great suspense element in this book two but it doesn't overpower.

I am a fan of kylie Scott but there was just something about how she wrote the heat in this book that was fantastic. Her plain use of vocabulary made everything come alive, if you catch my drift. Go listen the heck of Andi Arndt doing her thing on this audio.

Re-read Jan 2020, by ebook and I loved it just as much as the first time. It gave me all the feels and all the wow.

So good! I don’t think I’ve read a story quite like this. It was like a second chance but with its unique twist. It was well written especially with the mystery aspect even though I did guess right. Loved the relationship between the MC I think the author paced their relationship well considering their situation. I especially enjoyed how the whole focus was on the main couple no unnecessary drama. Overall a great start to my new book year. My first book by Kylie Scott and not my last. ❤️

Thank you so much for the rec dear Carol, It really hit the spot.

Here it is my first favorite book of the year.

And it is audio book!

It is no secret I am not huge fan of audio books. But as every true book lover there are times when you can't carry a reader or paperback around or everyday chores become more bearable with books and it is easier to survive the day knowing that you don't have to stop reading that page turning book you can just switch to audio. Miracle. So in that sense I accepted it. You have to do what you have to do to get your next fix. You know it's hard out here for a pimp.

But this narrator did an amazing job. Amazing! I tell ya. So amazing I will check other books she did.

On to the story...
Now if you ever read my reviews I am not so sold on reviewing by retelling the story all what is what you get from the blurb.

Things I want to point out is;
* superb writing IMO Kylie Scott at her best I don't know how to share all the amazing quotes but there were many
* feelgood, enjoyable read/ listen
* interesting plot line..I think this was first amnesia book where there were no flashbacks (Thank God) and
* great leading characters meaning they didn't get on my nerves which I don't appreciate enough
* side character is librarian and I approve all the books that were mentioned

There was some suspense, some drama but other then that it is really light and fun book.

If I would have to find something that I didn't like then that would be maybe a rushed ending. I would love more details with some things and characters included. But maybe we would get more books from Ed's brother and Clem's sister.

4 stars overall.

Handsome guy on cover - 5+ stars BABY! You're the reason I bought the book!!!

Ahem...

Clem (the one with no memory, and apparently never getting it back) is pretty likable. I really like her lack of filter.

Ed is likable too. I love the deep feeling, little talking, lots of scowling types with god-like bodies and giant dicks.

Ahem...

BUT. As some other readers said, the ending was waaaayyyyy too rushed. The evolution of the MCs' relationship was kind of slow, but mostly the right pace of development. But the ending was like 5 chapters-worth crammed into one. It wasn't too much of a mystery the perpetrator but it did seem kinda melodramatic.

I kinda missed getting to know Clem and Ed before her incident and new personality. The way he described getting together with her was soooo... NORMAL. understated. (And when has a hot guy ever bothered to hit on me at my place of work???? In that almost shy way of his???)

Also what I didn't like was that for someone as in love and ready to get married as Ed was with Clem, he sure moved on real fast. He apparently doesn't kiss and tell, but it seems like he "DATED" lots after she broke his heart (in the 3 months that they'd been apart!) kinda like "drinking" his sorrows away. So I can only infer he banged plenty of women to forget the one who broke him.

Like -- no GRIEVING period at all for the love lost! All in the name of forgetting his heartbreak, OF COURSE.

I just feel like that's kinda inconsistent with Ed's character. And I really didn't like where my head went at the inference.

Anyway, good read. Won't be reading it again. Not sure if I'll read more of this author's books, didn't like having to pay for it.

***4,5 "What are you thinking???" stars***

"Love and life sure can be scary. But not living your best life, not loving as hard as you can…what a terrible waste that would be.
And the man standing in front of me is the best of everything."

I LOVED this book!!! I really loved it!!!
I had a long time to read a book by Kylie Scott, but i can say that i over-enjoyed it!!!
It had so many good ingredients in it and i freakin' loved it!!!
Amnesia never before was sooo charming, even though as i was reading the book, i was feeling strange when i was trying to put myself in Clementine's place!!!

"...I don't always react right, or at least not necessarily how you'd expect me to behave based on previous me."
"Previous you?"
"It's as good a label for her as any."
"She's you. You're her."
"Maybe. But she's still a complete stranger to me."

Recently, Clementine had been a victim on a brutal attack that left her without memory...
Everything is new and overwhelming in her life... She is just trying to realize who she used to be before and that led her to Ed and his tattoo parlor...
Ed is sooo mad with Clementine, after the way they broke up... The break up was very hard for him, so what are her reasons for being back into his life again???
But even though he is hurting, he can't leave her alone in this difficult time in her life...

"Everyone says to take things slow. To let myself heal. But I feel like I'm stagnating and it sucks. No past and no future."

"Why do I have to deal with the fallout from a relationship I don't even remember being a part of?"
"Just plain dumb luck, I guess."
"It's not fair. And i don't want to be attracted to him either. It's inconvenient."

As the days are passing by, Clementine is trying to reinvent herself, but even though she is trying really hard, she had changed dramatically and that change is getting Ed closer to her...
But the bad memories are still lying between them and they are working as a pedestal in their lives...
What will happen with the two of them??? There is a chance to built up a relation from the beginning??? Will Clementine will manage to fall in love with him for once again??? And will Ed allow her to get under his skin for once again???
And the attack was just a coincident or someone is after her??? And for what reason???

“This is all new to me. Every single part of this life is new. And yes, some of it is a little scary sometimes. I get surprised by my own reactions to things sometimes. But that doesn’t mean I want to stop or go backwards … So if you want to stop or step back for your own reasons then ok. But if you’re stopping because I flipped out for a second, then don’t. I’m going to weird out occasionally, please be ok with that…
Stay with me, Ed.”

Well, i loved this story very much and i loved both Clem and Ed...
Clementine was a lost person from every aspect.... She had to learn many things about the other her (meaning her past self!!!) and what she is finding out are confusing enough!!!
She can understand Ed's anger toward her, but she can't understand the reasons about her actions before either...
At the same time, her new and different self, is also drowing toward Ed...
I really liked the way she was after the attack... I don't know who she was before, but from what i picked up, i'm not sure that i would like her very much... Not that she wasn't a good person, but i think that she was too much insecure...

"How is he even upsetting you if you don't remember him?"
"I don't know. I guess I grew new feelings for him... sort of."

Ed was an amazing guy!!! I loved him so much!!!
He was heartbroken from their break up and he was trying really hard to get over it and then she came back and she was a different person and he couldn't not help her, even though his feelings became tangled for once again... I think that Clementine was his Achilles heel!!! Even though, he was fighting it, it was impossible to stay away from her... even though he was very mistrusting toward her!!!

"You really think Ed still wants me?"
"Men just follow wherever their dicks lead them and his is like a compass needle when it comes to you."

"You're back in my life for a reason, Clem. Because on one level or another, I want you here. It'd be stupid of me to pretend otherwise."

Their relationship were really good...
From what i gathered their past relationship didn't seem so great in my eyes... It was just okay...
But their second chance proved to be an awesome try...
They had learned from their previous mistakes and they were putting new and more solid foundations in their relationship and i loved them for that!!!
They were making a really beautiful effort!!!

"Love is complicated. Well, whatever this is, is complicated."
"That it is," he whispers. "But I'm here, Clem. I'm not going anywhere, okay?"

Now, i have to mention that in here were also some other very loveable persons...
First of all, i loved Leif!!! He was so funny!!! Iris, Frances, Tessa... were also some great personalities and i enjoyed their time in here...
And of course, i had fathomed who was behind all the ugly shits from around the middle!!! Arrrr... You were such a snake, you..... (nope, i can't say!!!)

I picked this up a few months back when I was listening to more of my books on audio than actually reading physical copies. I had heard great things about Kylie Scott and I was dying to read something of hers. So when I stumbled across Repeat on Audible Escape, I knew that I had to have it!

This book includes all of my favorite tropes. If you read the description, then you know that Clem was violently attacked causing her to lose her memories. That's right - the famous amnesia trope! The attack leaves Clem feeling like a shell of her former self. Desperate for answers, she seeks out her ex in hopes of gaining part of her memory back. Ed isn't thrilled to see Clem walking into his tattoo shop - and neither is his friends. He reluctantly agrees to talk to her but decides see if he can help her. And that leads us to - a second chance romance! Ed was "nearly destroyed" by their break up so he has his guard up on high alert. He's determined not to catch feelings for Clem again. Clem tries to respect Ed's need for space. However, it is hard for her to stay away from the only person that makes her feel alive. She can't remember why their relationship failed but understands why it started. Their chemistry is undeniable! It keeps building and building; oh yes, this one is a slow-burn.

My other favorite thing about this book is all the mysterious elements. It adds the perfect amount of suspense to the book. Just like Clem, us readers, are completely in the dark on everything. You don't know who is genuine and who isn't. You're not sure if Ed is telling the truth or not. At one point in the story, I wasn't sure if I liked the old Clem. Then, I wasn't sure that I liked Ed - or all his friends! Kylie did a fantastic job with all her characters and having them persuading the reader on how to feel about a certain topic. Superb!

If you are looking for your next standalone read, I recommend this one!

“Sometimes our hearts are wiser than our heads.”

After surviving an attack, Clementine finds herself suffering from amnesia. When she goes looking for clues to who she is, she meets tattoo artist Ed, her ex-boyfriend. Apparently, their relationship did not end well, and they broke up only a month before her attack. With much unresolved between them, Clementine finds herself asking Ed questions that even he may not have the answers to. But will the two of them repeat the mistakes of the past?

“Love and life sure can be scary. But not living your best life, not loving as hard as you can…what a terrible waste that would be.”

I read this book in pretty much one sitting. I haven’t done that in a LONG time. While it’s not perfect, it reminds me of why I love books by Kylie Scott. She’s always been able to grab my attention with her stories and keep it for the entire book. The amnesia trope is one I am always happy to read, and I’m sad we don’t have more of it in the modern day romances.

I really enjoyed this book, I loved the characters and could actually feel the tension and love between them. Nothing felt rushed and I thought the pacing of this book was great. While the plot was fairly predictable, I thought it was really enjoyable. I do wish there were more books by this author set in this universe with these characters, I think it would be fun to revisit them in the future.

There are a couple nitpicky things that caught my attention, one was a term used in a sex scene that actually made me gag in disgust. Also there was a griping point made by the author where I could tell she was pissed about comments about one of her other books from reader reviews. Both those things took me out of the story and made it less enjoyable for me, so not a full five stars on this one. But otherwise a totally solid book and one I will definitely be recommending to friends in the future!

I really liked this book.

My only problem was the OW Drama, that he dated OW weeks after their relationship ended annoyed me a lot. I understand, he was hurt, but he wanted to marry her so why ?? 😭😭😭 I choose to believe that he only dated.

Brief summary

Following an attack on the streets Clem wakes up in hospital with no memories of who she is and what happened to her. She can remember the basic things like how to read and how to make a cup of coffee but when it comes to remembering people and remembering specific events - that's all gone. This includes any memories of Ed, her ex-boyfriend, and the reason behind their hurtful breakup. To attempt to understand who she was and for her own protection Clem begins to spend more time with Ed and it's clear that their romance is not over (yay).

Review

I mean ahh instant thumbs up because this book has my favourite trope - second-chance romances. I just love it when people get another chance to work things out and figure out why things weren't so great the first time round. The character development is always so great as well.
Clem and Ed's second-chance romance comes about due to her amnesia and in so many ways it's hard for both of them. Ed has to put aside all the hurt he felt when Clem broke up with him the first time and is scared to feel for her again, whilst Clem begins to rely on this man that she is strongly attracted too but doesn't really know despite him being such a key part of her past life.

Clem also loses a lot of her independence due to the attack and the threat doesn't go away. However, she does end up working at the local bookstore that she used to enjoy visiting and I absolutely loved her scenes with Iris the owner. They had such open conversations about things and honestly I just loved Clem - she literally just said what she was thinking all the time and it was great to read about a character who straight up says what they're feeling.

The romance was so great and I loved all the little things that Ed did for Clem throughout the book. It was so great to see them develop their relationship again and for Clem to understand what love is.

description

I did feel like the ending was a little bit anticlimactic though - I would've liked a bit more time spent on the major reveal but instead it was literally crammed into the last chapter.
Also there is a part near the start of the book when Clem bumps into Ed and another woman at their favourite restaurant. I mean I can understand him trying to move on after being hurt (it was a bit soon after the breakup but oh well) but I just felt so sorry for Clem at that point, especially as she was just beginning to get a little bit attached to Ed and he legit took his date to their favourite place.

description

But despite that it was still a really nice and romantic read!! And I'm really glad I enjoyed my first Kylie Scott book!!

Thanks Cami for reading this with me - looking forward to our next read together! ♡

I hate to admit it but I’ve always been leery of amnesia romances. I picture something over dramatic and HQ and end up skipping them. That being said, Repeat had me completely engaged from the very first page.

Clementine could not have endeared herself to me more. Her honest self reflection and “amnesia isn’t going to take me down” attitude made this book for me. Ed and his walls around the heart, fear of Clem hurting him again vibe is understandable and I loved the fact he let her in anyway.

A big “thank you” to Kylie Scott for making me a ‘lil less afraid of amnesia romances 😘
