Some people seem to have two personalities. Some are very gentle, polite, and accommodating during the workday to clients and customers, but when they come home they become demanding and unyielding tyrants. On the other hand, others are loving, considerate, and patient at home, but in business affairs are ruthless, letting nothing stand in the way of gaining profit.

Neither behavior pattern is acceptable. Our lives must be governed by principles that apply everywhere, and we must practice them in all our affairs. For the Jew, these principles are found in the Torah, which includes not only the Scriptures, but also the Talmud and the various works compiled by Torah scholars throughout the ages.

In the portion of the Torah inscribed on the mezuzah, we read that one should converse in Torah while in the home, on the road, when one arises, and when one retires. This message is to be inscribed on the doorposts of our homes. In other words, from awakening until bedtime, both within the home and outside the home, the words of the Torah are to direct us in our actions. There can be no dichotomy.

The mezuzah is affixed to the doorpost so that it should be noticed both when we leave the house to enter the world of commerce and when we return home after the workday. While it is a beautiful custom to kiss the mezuzah as a sign of endearment, this gesture should not be perfunctory. The words of the mezuzah should influence our behavior everywhere.

Moshe Lion (born 1961) is an Israeli politician and accountant. He is a member of the Jerusalem City Council, having previously served as director-general of the Prime Minister's Office, Chairman of the Israel Railways, and head of the Jerusalem Development Authority, before running for Mayor of Jerusalem in 2013. He received 45% of the vote, but lost to the incumbent Nir Barkat.[1] Lion later joined Barkat's coalition in the municipality in 2015.[2]

Moshe Lion was born in Givatayim, and attended high school in nearby Tel Aviv. He served in the Israel Defence Forces, where he was assigned to the military chaplaincy and sang with the IDF rabbinical choir.[3] He occasionally still leads synagogue services.[4] He still Lion graduated with a BA in economics and accounting from Bar-Ilan University, and interned in the office of Avigdor Yitzhaki, receiving his CPA in 1990. Lion is married with four children and lives in Jerusalem's Rehavia neighborhood. His brother Dr. Nissim Lion is a lecturer in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Bar-Ilan University.

Professional career

In 1991 Lion founded Yitzhaki & Co. together with Avigdor Yitzhaki and two other partners.[5] Among his clients was the Likud movement, which he advised following their economic losses after losing the 1992 Knesset elections. He retired in 2017.

In July 2014 he was appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mayanei HaYeshua Medical Center in Bnei Brak.

Public career

In 1996, Lion was appointed managing director of the Prime Minister's Office of Benjamin Netanyahu, also becoming his economic adviser, serving in those roles till 1999.[6]

From 2003-2006 he was appointed chairman of the Israel Railways after having previously worked with the Ports and Railways Authority. Lion finished his term in 2006 after his term was not extended.

In 2008, he was appointed chairman of the Jerusalem Development Authority. Under his tenure, the First Station train complex in Jerusalem was completed.

Lion was chosen to help negotiate the forming of a government coalition following the Israeli elections of 2013, in the aftermath of which the Likud and Yisrael Beitenu parties joined together.

In 2013, Lion ran for Mayor of Jerusalem but lost to incumbent mayor Nir Barkat. The Likud party under his leadership received one mandate, and he became a member of the city council on its behalf.[7]

In August 2015, Lion joined the municipal coalition and the faction of Mayor Nir Barkat.[8] As part of the coalition agreement signed between the two, he began to serve as a member of the city administration, and as the holder of the community management portfolio.

On March 25, 2018, Lion announced his intention to run for mayor of Jerusalem in the elections scheduled for October 30, 2018. During the campaign, Lion stated that he opposed the Netanyahu government's plan to erect a barrier dividing East Jerusalem from the rest of the city.[9] This plan was put forward by Jerusalem Affairs Minister and campaign challenger Ze’ev Elkin.[9]

In Jerusalem's 2018 mayoral elections Lion garnered 33% of the vote earning him a spot in a runoff election scheduled two weeks later against fellow Jerusalem city councilman Ofer Berkovitch who gained 29% of the electorate.[10] According to election laws, candidates in municipal races must gain at least 40% of the vote to win an election.[11]

Dear Friends,
There is a saying among photographers that the best shots are the ones where we have our camera with us. This is said in all seriousness because some of the choicest opportunities come to us when least expected. So I was a passenger in a car driving down the narrow street leading from the Armenian to Jewish quarter in the Old City of Jerusalem when I noticed an elderly religious Jew waiting on the pavement/sidewalk. What struck me was that he was so engrossed in his sefer, seemingly oblivious to the outside world. This scene triggered the recollection of stories I had heard of one of our great "gedolei hador". And I suddenly felt that was him!
I will leave you to view the few shots I was able to capture, find out who I believe is the subject (with a short biography of this great person), and decide for yourself if I am correct.

I am a medical student currently doing a rotation in toxicology at the poison control center.
Today, this woman called in very upset because she caught her little daughter eating ants.
I quickly reassured her that the ants are not harmful and there would be no need to bring her daughter into the hospital.
She calmed down, but at the end of the conversation happened to mention that she gave her daughtersome ant poison to eat in order to kill the ants. I told her to bring her daughter into the emergency room right away.

Number Two Idiot
Early this year, some Boeing employees on the airfield decided to steal a life raft from one of the 747s. They were successful in getting it out of the plane and a few days later they took it for a float on the river. They soon noticed a Coast Guard helicopter coming toward them. It turned out that the chopper was homing in on theemergency locator beacon that activated when the raft was inflated.
They are no longer employed at Boeing.

A man, wanting to rob a downtown Bank of America, walked into the Branch. took a deposit slip and wrote this,"Put all your muny in this bag.";
While standing in line, waiting to give his note to the teller, he began to worry that someone may have seen him write the note and might call the police. So he left theBank of Americaand crossed the street to the Wells Fargo Bank. After waiting a few minutes in line, he handed his note to the Wells Fargoteller. She read it and, surmising from his spelling errorsthat he wasn't the brightest light in the harbor, told him that she could not accept his stickup note because it was written on aBank of Americadeposit slip and he would either have to fill out a Wells Fargodeposit slip or go back to Bank of America.
Looking somewhat defeated, the man said, "OK" and left.
He was arrested a few minutes later, as he was waiting in line back at Bank of America.

A motorist was unknowingly caught in an automated speed trap that measured his speed using radar and photographed his car. He received a ticket for $140.00 in the mail and a photo of his car. Instead of payment, he sent the police department a photograph of $140.00. The police replied with another
letter that contained another picture, this time of handcuffs.
He immediately mailed in his $140.00.

A guy walked into a little corner store with a shotgun and demanded all of the cash from the cash drawer. After the cashier put the cash in a bag, the robber saw a bottle of Scotch that he wanted behind the counter on the shelf. He told the cashier to put it in the bag as well, but the cashier refused and said, "BecauseI don't believe you are over 21.";
The robber said he was, but the clerk still refused to give it to him because she didn't believe him. At this point, the robber took hisdriver's license out of his wallet and gave it to the clerk.
The clerk looked it over and agreed that the man was in fact over 21 and she put the Scotch in the bag. The robber then ran from the store with his loot.
The cashier promptly called the police and gave the name and address of the robber that she got off the license.
They arrested the robber two hours later.

Arkansas: Seems this guy wanted some beer pretty badly.
He decided that he'd just throw a cinder block through a liquor store window, grab some booze, and run. So he lifted the cinder block and heaved it over his head at the window. The cinder block bounced back knocking him unconscious.
It seems the liquor store window was made of Plexi-Glass.
The whole event was caught on videotape.

I live in a semi-rural area.
We recently had a new neighbor call the local township administrative office to request the removal of the Deer Crossing sign on our road.
The reason: "Too many deer are being hit by cars out here! I don't think this is a good place for them to be crossing anymore."

LOGIC MAKE NO IMPRESSION ON THEM

"Rabbi Yudan bar Simon said, '[Concerning] three places the nations of the world will not be able to castigate Israel by claiming, 'You are thieves': Me'arat HaMachpela, Har HaBayit, and Kever Yosef.

"Me'arat HaMachpela, as it is written: 'And Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver...'; Har HaBayit, as it is written, 'So David gave Arnan 600 shekels of gold by weight for the site'; and Kever Yosef, as it is written, 'And [Jacob] bought the parcel of ground...at the hand of the children of Chamor, the father of Shechem'" (Bereishit Rabba 79:7)

Two questions arise from this Midrash:

1) Is it only about these three places that the nations can't say we are thieves? Isn't this claim baseless regarding the ENTIRE land (as Rashi states in his commentary to the very first verse of the Torah)?

2) What does the Midrash mean by "the nations of the world will not be able"? We see that they are quite able to challenge our claim to these three places! Indeed, it is precisely these three places on which they concentrate their struggle!

The key to answering these questions is a rule that we should etch in our souls: It is not important what GENTILES SAY; what's important is what JEWS THINK. The Torah knew that when the gentiles would eventually accuse the Jews of being "thieves" and "occupiers" and "conquerors," the Jews would feel uncomfortable, even a little guilty. Perhaps the gentiles are right that we stole their land. perhaps they have an ethical argument.

And so the Rabbis tell us: There are three places about which the gentiles cannot open their mouths even according to simple logic since these places were legally purchased with money. And yet, logic makes no impression on them. On the contrary, it is precisely these three places that they place at the heart of their fight against us! What does this teach us? That it isn't justice or ethics which motivates them, nor is our struggle a dispute over property that can be resolves. Rather, it is a national-religious fight.

Therefore, the Rabbis teach us: Just like you know that their claim to these three places is not justified, by the same token don't get excited about their claims to other parts of the land since "the entire world belongs to Hashem; He created it and gave it to whomever He saw fit" (Rashi to Genesis 1:1).
