Erin Johnson is quite a prolific author. In about a year, she's launched eight books in the Spells & Caramels cozy witch series. Part paranormal adventure, part mystery, these books whisk you away to a world like no other. In the latest book, Grimoires, Spas & Chocolate Straws, baker Imogen Banks is stranded on an island after a war began in her non-Earth world. Her boyfriend, Hank's, royal family was up to no good, and several magical creatures escaped thru a mirror from the scary visiting monsters. Imogen and the gang put their trust in her possibly ne'er-do-well brother, Horace, only to learn, the truth is not what they thought!

Since the last book ended, the crew's been working and living on this island with their new friends. When they go on a spa / beach trip, they meet The Black Widow, who supposedly kills her husbands and finds a new one on a regular basis. The journey introduces us to fun new characters who run the spa and are romantically linked to the woman whose husbands mysteriously die. What's really going on? Imogen is determined to find out as the secret has a few layers to it. She's also searching for Horace but he's nowhere to be found. Both mysteries come to a head and change the course of the future for these traveling magical friends.

Johnson has created a truly intense and vivid world. From being buried under the sand for a massage and exfoliation treatment to walking through mirrors to reach the past or other worlds, these books have excellent escapes. The characters are all distinct and fun, even when they're evil or make bad decisions. The ending of this one is romantic and special, and I look forward to what could happen in the next book. I miss the baking contests and fun around the royal castle, but I'm confident it will return one day. I also love meeting different kinds of creatures from vampires to snakes who transform into humans. You never really know what lurks beneath the surface.

I'm excited about the 9th book which I hear might be coming out relatively soon! Thanks for this great series.

Grimoires, Spas and Chocolate Straws by Erin Johnson is the eighth Spells & Caramels novel. Imogen Banks and her friends are still residing in Kusuri on Badlands Island. They are living in Jiji’s guesthouse and earn their keep by helping the guards with their duties and other chores around the house. The group is getting an opportunity to go to the beach with the guards for the manta monster migration festival at Umiru. While the guards will be protecting the fisherman, the bakers will get to enjoy the spa treatments offered by the oriental town. After indulging in the dragon spa treatment at Doragon Spa, there is an uproar when a client is found dead in the sand. Imogen wonders if their hostess, Miss Sara who is referred to by locals as the “black widow” could be the culprit since she was arguing with the victim prior to his death. Things are further complicated when Yann, a fellow baker, falls head over heels for Miss Sara. They do not want Yann to become the next man ensnared in Miss Sara’s web. Imogen and her fellow bakers set out to uncover the truth and get their vacation back on track.

Grimoires, Spas and Chocolate Straws is another entertaining installment in the Spells & Caramels series. I do suggest reading the books in the Spells & Caramels series in order. Each book builds upon the previous one. Grimoires, Spas and Chocolate Straws is a creative cozy mystery with magical elements. Erin Johnson has a vivid imagination. She has created whimsical worlds with quirky characters and plenty of humor. I found Grimoires, Spas and Chocolate Straws easy to read thanks to the author conversational writing style (It has an ease to it). The story progresses along at a steady pace with vibrant descriptions of the forests, the monsters, and the distinctive spa town of Umiru. It is nice to see the various characters pairing up, but they are still maintaining their close friendships. We get to find out more about Imogen’s brother, Horace. I was quite surprised by his revelations. Iggy provides levity with his one-liners (I enjoy his droll commentary). The book has a special ending that will please fans of the series. The mystery is not complex, but I had a good time following the clues and zeroing in on the killer. My rating for Grimoires, Spas and Chocolate Straws is 4 out of 5 stars (I liked it). I am eager to find out what happens next with our band of bakers in the next Spells & Caramels tale.

I was in the mood for a fun paranormal cozy mystery, so I decided to pick up book 8 in this series. It was a joy to be back with Imogen, Iggy and all their friends. In this book they're still on the island and decide to accompany their guard friends to visit a sea town filled with spas. They're hoping for a relaxing vacation. Ofcourse things never go that smoothly and they land in the middle of another murder mystery.

The previous book I enjoyed less than the rest of the series and I had hoped this book would be better again, and it was. Now that I know they're stuck on the island and wasn't hoping for the overarching plot line to continue as much, I could enjoy it more as it was. Although I am still a bit sad there isn't much about the overarching plot line that we followed more strongly during the first six books. There is a bit of explanation about that in this book and some interesting reveals regarding Horace, which I was missing in book 7, so I am glad it was present here a bit at least. That first scene with Leo felt like it came completely out of the blue and only made sense later.

I am happy to say that this book was a lot more fun again than the previous book, which is what I am looking for when I pick up one of these books. Now that they're settled a bit on the island they have a bit of a place and friends too, things seem to go a bit smoother on that front. There also was more character interactions again and some of the side characters we met in the previous book, but mostly the friendly ones are left now. And ofcourse there is more Iggy. I love Iggy he's such a great character,

The mystery doesn't start till later in the book, but that kinda works here. They have to go to the town at the sea first before the mystery starts. The scene with the water and when Imogen meets Leo was a bit weird and felt like it slowed the start down a bit, but it all ties in more with the plot later. Then once they're in the town at the sea the mystery gets rolling. A man dies while having the signature treatment at the spa and Imogen and the rest tries to solve the mystery.

The mystery wasn't too complex. There are three main suspects sort of and they all have some sort of motive, it's just figuring out who took it further and actually killed the guy. The strange thing is that for a big part of the book, actually up till the end of the mystery, they aren't even sure whether the victim got killed or whether it was an accident. I am usually not a fan of those plot lines as I rather know that thing for sure as it always makes the main character seem a bit too suspicious someone with how they're seeing a murder everywhere without proof.

It was fun to learn a bit about this town and the people in it and there's also a tie with the monsters. We see a few more monsters, but it still a bit on the background. Besides the mystery plot line, there are some character related plot lines that continue. There are some new romances blooming as well. And there is just a little bit that nods toward the overarching plot line.

One thing that bothered me again in this book was the weird mix of Asian and western. This book is probably set in Japan, it's never explicitly mentioned, but that seems to be the vibe the author is going for. But then other things don't quite fit with that vibe, words that are used not quite in the right manner and Asian/ Japanese style thins that get combined with more western things. It was quite confusion and felt off to me. And throughout the book there are multiple such things and it keeps popping up in different situations.

To give an example the seaside town is first referred to as onsen town, when they arrive they only use the word spa suddenly, which does seem to be the right word for what these things are. And then later the word bathhouse is thrown in a few times. All of these words have a different vibe and meaning and it was just confusing how they're all used for the same thing and how there was no consistent use of only one word. I am not sure whether the author didn't do enough research or whether it's done on purpose.

Something I did like about the setting the author creates is how she gives all these towns and happenings a magical touch. There is a monster watching festival and they have these magical themed gifts and items around. There are some magical creatures around and magic is used for some of the treatments at the spa. It's a lot fun and I like how it;s subtly woven into everyday live, it makes it all feel more real.

I liked reading about Imogen again. I also like how she works closely with hank while solving this mystery. And their romance seems to be going well. It was nice to see Yann take a bigger role in this book with his infatuation with the Black Widow. Then there's Iggy, who is one of my favorite characters, he's just so fun to read about. Then there is the usual cats of side characters. It also was interesting to see Sam have a bit of a beginning romance with captain Kenta.

To summarize: This was another fun read in this series. I thought it was better than the previous book, which is partly because my expectations have been adjusted now. This story is again set on the island and there's very little about the overarching plot line. I now expected this and it didn't bother me as much, although I am really curious what's going on with the reveals at the end of book 6. There is an interesting reveal about Horace in this book. And a bit of a weird scene with Leo at the start, which makes more sense later. This book had again that fun vibe I enjoy about these books. There is a mystery to solve and some characters plot lines as well. The mystery is pretty straightforward with 3 possible suspects and they have to figure out which of them is the murderer. I was not surprised when we discover who did it, but it was fun to follow along as the character discover the clues. One things that bothers me is the weird mix of Japanese and western style elements and words, I am not sure whether this is a lack of research or intentional. It's confusing and feels off to me. I like reading about these characters and following them along as their stories progress. Only two more books to go in this series!

Can Imogen and her friends solve a mystery about the man in the sand?
Grimoires, Spas and Chocolate Straws by Erin Johnson is another excellent book by this fabulous author. This story left me feeling a lot of things for each of the characters. I have to say that I’m rooting for them all and their love interests. Ms. Johnson has a way of doing that to us in each of her books in the Spells and Caramels series.
What I like:

Imogen is still my favorite character, and she is the one that is telling the story.
It's not like she is trying to be a dead body magnet, but she can’t help herself if she happens across one. Well, kind of hard not to with this doozy of one.
We learn more about what happened when King Roch sent the monsters to Badland Island. I think it’s always refreshing to learn about how this event affected so many people.
Hank is more involved this time on helping Imogen with finding the killer than the last two times.
The other likes that I have would be a spoilers

What I don’t like:
I didn’t like the way that Imogen handled some situations. She could have told Yann about the girl he is crushing on differently. I also didn’t like that Horace didn’t have any more portal mirrors so now he can't he escape if he needs to. The last thing that I dislike is that Imogen's friends didn't believe that she wouldn't be investigating the murder. I mean if they didn't talk about the death all the time she wouldn't be thinking about it.
What I’m curious about:
I am curious about if Imogen and her friends will be saved from the Badlands Island? Or do they even want to be saved?
Five Star
Grimoires, Spas and Chocolate Straws by Erin Johnson is a five-star book. I loved every single bit of it. Ms. Johnson also did make me cry twice while reading this book. I won't say when those two times were at, but you will get a full range of emotions reading this story. This book is a fantastic read, and I can’t wait for her next book.

Anyways until the next time enjoy this review brought to you by,

a solid 4.5 stars!

Full of whimsy, adventure and, above all, an extremely imaginative read! The gang’s still in the land of monsters, adjusting to their new life. Imogen is constantly on the lookout for her brother despite the fact that he seems to have abandoned them. The group gets the opportunity to take a side trip to a beautiful seaside resort but it ends up being anything but a relaxing vacation with the death of a guest (a hotel critic) and Imogen can’t help but investigate. There’s plenty of that snarky Iggy (I just love him!) as well as a wonderful conclusion to the story that will keep you totally wrapped up in this book.

Note: I did receive an ARC of this book, but my review is voluntary and a total pleasure to share in hopes others will find this great series!

Grimoires, spas and chocolate straws is book number 8 in my favourite cozy witch mystery serie: Spells and caramels by Erin Johnson. As the lovely cover suggest it, we are now following Imogen and her friends on a beach adventure….But don’t let the sun on your face or the sand between your toes fool you: There is trouble in this paradise!

The story picks up almost right where we left it in Due east, Beasts and Campfire Feasts. After traveling trough one of Horace’s portal, Imogen and her friends ended up in the Badlands and they are now trying to adapt to a whole new life. Things are never easy and a well deserved vacation at the beach is in order, but it doesn’t take long before a dead body shows up and the gang starts investigating.

Erin Johnson is truely amazing at writing funny dialogues and Iggy, the magical flame is, by far, my favourite character. His sense of humour is hilarious and his inputs always crake me up. I was disappointed though that the rest of the group, including Imogen, don’t seem to evolve along the story. To me, they feel pretty much the same and don’t take me wrong: they are the best, but I would like the story to give us the change to know them better and to see them grow. Being separeted from their family, from their home, the place they grew up must be hard on them, specially not knowing what the situation is, but surprisingly, they all seems quite ready to settle down on the island.

My favourite part of the book was everything related to Horace. I believe he is a fascinating character and I would love to read more about him and his past, especially after what we learn in this book. The overall story was well written, with enough descriptions of foods and spa treatments to make you plan your next vacation!

I have enjoyed reading this book and would, without hesitation, recommend it to all lovers of cozy mystery books. I can’t wait to read more of Erin Jonhson’s work and believe she is a very talented author. As I mentioned earlier, she is, since Seashells, Spells and Caramels, one of my favourite writer in the genre.

I am looking forward for the next book in this serie!

I received an advanced copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

After exposing the perfidy to the king, Imogen Banks, her boyfriend, the former Prince Hank, and their friends have been banished to Badlands Island, a place that is infected with monsters that the king also banished there. Out on a monster patrol with the local defenders, Imogen falls in a raging river and is swept downstream, where she’s saved by a member of her brother Horace’s Badlands Army. She implores her savior to take her to her brother, who, despite his enigmatic and sometimes violent nature, she still wants to find. He shows her the Badlands Army encampment, but reneges on taking her to see Horace.
Later, when friends suggest a spa vacation, Imogen is all to ready for the diversion. But, as often happens with our heroine, when they arrive at the spa, a dead body appears, and Imogen, Hank, and the crew set about solving the murder.
Grimoires, Spas & Chocolate Straws by Erin Johnson is book 8 in the Spells & Caramels series, and not so surprisingly, given the fantastic job the author has done with this improbably plot, it does not disappoint. You’ll be delighted as Imogen, her flame—yes, literally a fire—Iggy, Hank, and a whole host of believably unbelievable characters, including a vampire in love with a sorceress, frolic, fumble, and finesse their way from the frying pan to the fire to the baker’s shelf.
Kudos to Johnson for keeping the interest going for eight books. Looking forward to number 9. I received a complimentary copy of this book. I give it five stars.

4.5/5 stars!!

Erin does it yet again! She delivers a fantastical, intriguing and delicious paranormal cozy mystery story designed to enchant each of your senses. Seriously… from bubble therapy for touch, pancake noodle bowls for taste, a magical nautical phenomena for sight and a siren’s song for hearing… this story is delectable.

Book 8 in the Spells and Caramels series opens with our beloved heroes still adrift in the Badlands, as they haven’t yet figured out a way to get back home. Resourceful as they always are, they’ve settled into a new routine with new friends in their new home. So much so settled, that it’s time for a bit of a working vacation over at a resort town. What should be a relaxing time turns into yet another murder mystery adventure.

I can’t say enough just how much I love reading these stories and seeing what new ideas Erin’s mind has conjured up for her readers. Each book delivers a new environment where different aspects, inventions and innovations are revealed. In this book we have the migration of the giant, magical, glowing manta rays which can only be compared to an oceanic version of the Northern Lights.

The town, the wide crescent of the beach, and all the ocean spread out before us. The entire sea glowed, a neon indigo with swirls of purples, pinks, reds, and greens. I held my breath, dizzy—it was as if the sky had bled into the sea and I was staring down at the starry night.

Character development continues with Imogen and Hank deepening their relationship and even Horace continuing to show different sides to his personality. We’re in book 8 here and yet we can still see quality evolution of the main characters.

The mystery itself is very well-plotted. The suspects aren’t too plentiful but the motives are varied. I was able to figure it out by the last third of the story but there were still elements left to surprise and delight my inner detective.

For followers of the series, there’s a beautiful, heart-warming scene towards the end of this book that will make you absolutely wild. Erin’s imagery casts a truly beautiful, romantic spell. I give this book 4.5/5 stars and can’t wait for the next instalment! I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this novel. All opinions expressed are my own.

Well what can i say everyone is pairing off and Hank proposed. I'm happy and sad because you know it's coming to an end. I loved the Spa's and how the dragon helps them without realizing. I liked the mystery in this one too I had no clue who did it. I loved the way that at every chance Imogen was stuffing her face. Iggy seemed a lot funnier in this one too.

Grimoires, Spas and Chocolate Straws is the eighth book in the Spells and Caramels paranormal cozy mystery series. Imogen & Company have not left the land of monsters, yet. They do get a vacation trip to a seaside resort.

I am happy that I found this author in a cozy mystery group on Facebook.
I enjoyed that it was a clean cozy- no really violent scenes; there is a lot of imagination written into the story, the characters and background. This is a well-written paranormal cozy with a good dose of snark from Iggy the lamplight.

If you like endearing heroines, a touch of romance, and unexpected twists, then you’ll like this magical whodunit.

I was provided an ARC e-book copy of this book. These are my opinions.

Gosh I love this series!

Another great addition to the series. We find out more about Horace, visit a new town and have another murder! I love the town of Umiru, the description just makes me want to visit this magical place. The writing style in this series is comfortable and so easy to read. And what an ending!! No spoilers, you'll just have to read it! Can't wait for the next book, better get writing Ms. Johnson!

Ugh... I love these books

This series is amazing. The character development is awesome. I mean I can't say who is my favorite because it changes with each different book. I will say Iggy is a great use of humor and Sam's navigation is interesting. The only down side is, that I love them so much I blow through it so fast and have to wait for the next. Thank you for writing.

THIS SERIES.

Okay if you like murder romance funny/witty humor baking fantasy and great plot then you're in the right place!

Honestly I'm going to be so sad when this series ends but also pumped to see what else she comes out with.

The murders are always fun to try and figure out, the romance and sexual tension is on point, and the adventure feels so fun it's honestly hard to put down. TBH though, I did cry at the end of this one- she really sucker punches you in the last couple chapters.

*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.

Yet another fantastic adventure with Imogen and her friends. Still stranded on the island they are struggling to find their place in this strange new place living off the decency of others. They jump at the chance to go on a short trip to help others with their work as well as enjoying a festival. Added bonus is they will be staying at a spa and are free to use their services. This is great until they see a dead guy which leads to another investigation. Amazing world building, quirky details, and a wide group of eclectic characters to give everyone someone to love such as Izzy the hilarious talking flame. A must read for fans of magical cozy mysteries. I totally loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.

I read so many great reviews of the Spells & Caramels series that when I saw the opportunity to read and review Book #8 for a blog tour, I thought, why not. Well, I will tell you that reading the first in this series and then the 8th was not the best decision I could have made. I will definitely need to go back and read them in order. Having said that, I did enjoy this book. First of all, this series has been characterized as a cosy mystery series, but here is a lot more to it. It is part paranormal, part fantasy, a bit of romance and some adventure. The setting of the book is in an amazing fantasy land with monsters, witches, vampires, seers and more. In this book the main character Imogene is stranded on a forgotten island with her friends. Getting the opportunity to visit a seaside spa, off they go and stumble upon a murder. Was it the proprietress of the spa, known as the Black Widow who killed the spa critic and cad who had come on to her, or is there another murderer running around. When one of her friends becomes infatuated with Miss Sara, Imogene and Hank decide that they need to find the culprit. Throw in a brother who is the leader of the Badlands Army trying to overthrow the king and you have quite an adventure and mystery.

I really enjoy the descriptive writing in this book. The world that Erin Johnson has created comes to life in this story. From the siren baths to the magical manta monster migration, I could picture the island and seaside. The mystery was a major part of the story, but the rest is just as important. I loved seeing the friendships grow and develop. I did figure out who the murderer was before it was revealed, but I still enjoyed the unravelling and the motive. I read this book in one sitting as I kept wanting to see what was going to happen next. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a mystery with a difference, some fantasy worlds and paranormal. I received a copy of this book from the Publicity Group upon my request to participate in this tour. The rating, ideas and opinions shared are my own.

Imogen and her friends are invited to go to the seashore to relax and deliver tea to merchants who
have ordered it from the family of one of their new friends in the village where they are currently staying.

However, they hear of rumors about the owner of the place where they’re staying at the seashore and one of her friends is enamored by this woman. Is she really a murderer? When a dead body turns up at her spa, Imogen and her friends need to investigate so as either keep their friend from this woman if she is the murderer but also to find the killer if she isn’t.

Join in the excitement of the magical evening display in the water and the page turning suspense as different possible suspects come to the forefront.

I love this series and the adventures my friends have had thus far and towards the end of the book Horace makes an appearance and leaves Imogen awestruck with an announcement that she never saw coming!

I recommend this whole collection to one and all who love a cozy mystery series woven throughout with love and people you will call your friends like I call them mine! It’s a very long, lonely journey if you have to travel it by yourself! I urge you to get this whole collection like I did so you can go from one book to the next just by turning the page!

Erin’s series is just such a wonderful adventure I can’t stress enough how much you’ll love it once you start it! You’ll love the characters and the writing and the magical world she has created for you to experience what they experience by just reading this series! I know I’ll be rereading it again and again! There are two more books to go but I don’t want to say goodbye to my friends and so all I have to do to bring them back is to pick up the book and start over to read about an orphan who always felt she never belonged and by a magical encounter travels to a island where she finds it is magical and she has magical powers within her herself! She forms lasting friendships and along the way discovers who her parents were and that she has a brother!

There is a snarky magical flame who provides a lot of humor besides Imogen’s natural clumsiness to make you smile while you are engrossed in the story!

You won’t regret getting this full collection so I urge you to get it today and settle in for the most enjoyable read you’ll have had in a long time!

The Spells and Caramels series is one of my favorite series. I have to admit, I missed the last book, do to the death of my mother and I really should have gone back to read that book before I dove into this one, because I was a little bit lost. This series is best enjoyed in order, and trust me you will enjoy this book and all the others.

This series is one best read in order because this series is really all about continuity, because though they are cozy in nature, there's a strong story line that is best enjoyed from the the start of the series, so that you understand the characters better.

In this book Imogen and her friends are stuck on Badlands Island. Imogen is looking for her brother Horace and early on we meet his second in command, Leo, who saves Imogen from drowning.

A diversion to a spa finds the group finding yet another dead body and there is a murder to solve.

I really love how the characters are growing as this series progresses. Oh and can I say, I just adore Iggy. Iggy is Imogen's flame. (literally). If you are a fan of the series, you'll see how each character has really come into their own in this story and you learn so much as the series goes on, especially about Imogen and Horace.

The mystery involves a spa owner who has a bit of reputation of being a black widow, and when she takes an interest in Yann, Imogen knows she has to investigate the death of a man that died in the spa, in case those rumors proved true.

There weren't a lot of suspects but it was really interesting to see how everything played out. I have to admit that once again I was surprised with who the culprit was.

What I love about this series is how its more than just the mystery. Its the character's lives and that's just as important as them solving a murder. So don't be surprised when the book goes on a little bit longer than when everything is solved.

The ending of this one will give you the warm fuzzies and have you squealing with delight.

This is a fabulous read and a great addition to the series!

Imogen and her friends are going to be on Badlands Island for the foreseeable future. To keep from going crazy, Imogen friends agree to go with the guards to a resort town to help distribute tea to the locals while the guards protect the fishermen. When a man indulging in a signature spa treatment is found dead and the owner of the spa is Sara, the infamous black widow, Imogen can’t help but get involved, especially since her friend Yann shows an interest in Sara.

Grimoires, Spas, and Chocolate Straws was a little bit slow for me at the beginning. It wasn’t until after they reached the resort town and the death occurs that the pacing of the book picked up. The characters are delightful as ever and we get to meet new people and get reacquainted with Horace. His conversation with Imogen is pretty sad and I felt really bad for the life he’s had to live for so long.

Spells and Caramels is a really enjoyable cozy mystery series. There are now eight books and the author still manages to keep things fresh and interesting. Imogene, Hank, Maple, and Sam, along with all the others, are well developed characters. They aren't flawless characters but that's what helps give them, and the story, so much charm. The continued world building describes scenes very well and the continues character development helps the reader develop deeper connections with the characters.

Imogen's character is fun and caring with a bit of emotional baggage making her a very realistic, likable, and interesting character. She has embraced the magic she was born into and she's continually trying to harness and use the magic. Imogen and Maple are wonderful, and I love their friendship. Iggy the flame is the best! He's mouthy but Iggy and Imogen have a great relationship. Hank and Imogen’s relationship continues to grow and strengthen even though they are far from home. I look forward to more of their antics in the next book.

Wow!!! I loved this book. The characters are so colourful and a delight to listen to. The author never fails to bring a smile to your face and a giggle to your lips, with her cleverly crafted characters. I have loved this series since the start 8 books ago and I feel like I know the main group of characters so well, from Iggy the flames snarky comments to Sam the shifters shyness, to Maple the head bakers sweetness, even Horace the leader of the bad lands tricks, all of them are a delight to read about and I hops there is more to come because I for one can't wait for the next book.
Imogen and her friends still haven't caught up with her brother Horace to find out how to get hone. They decide they need a break from dodging monsters in the forests so agree to the a company the guards to a dragon spa for pampering and while the guards protect the fisherman at night Imogen and her friends would make deliveries around the town and then enjoy the festival. The only catch is they are guests of the black widow, the owner of the spar has buried two husbands and countless lovers but is she really a killer? Imogen believes so when receiving there first treatment they witness the death of a man seen her her presence only minutes before. Imogen is on holiday and has no intention of investigating, until one of her friends falls under the black widows spell and fearing for his life she, Iggy and the gang pull out all the stops to get to the bottom of the murder before there friend become a the next victim.
I really like the narrator and the use of the special effects, it really adds to the story and helps bring it to life magically.

While I do have to strongly suggest you read this series in order, once you have been introduced to the characters you will be hooked.
Imogen Banks began life in a human world and has only recently been introduced to her magical side and her best friend (and flame) Iggy. She has a wonderful group of friends, with whom she has been banished to a place thought uninhabited except by monsters.
The world building in this series is fantastic. There is no limit to Erin Johnson`s imagination and writing talents. This series covers mystery, fantasy, murder and romance plus more.

After being banished to this new world on the other side of a mirror portal, Imogen is looking for her brother, who may or may not be on this side of the mirror. He is reportedly the leader of a rebel army.
Fortunately, Imogen and friends fall in with the right crowd, after some misunderstandings, and are taken under the wing of the guard.
In this installment, the guard has an assignment at a spectacular fair and event. They take the new group along to perform a delivery errand and have a bit of a vacation involving spa treatments.

On one hand this is a luxury opportunity, on the other, the owner of the spa at which they are staying has a bit of a reputation. Imogen has her own reputation for finding trouble.

Become immersed in the magical fun and uncertainty as you worry about your new friends and wonder what could happen next.

A day at the spa isn’t quite as relaxing as Imogen has hoped. Imogen, again, finds herself searching for a killer. Can she and her friends remain safe as they try to ferret out who done it?

This is another great installment in this series. I’ve listened to all the books so far, and I haven’t been disappointed. The author puts together great tales that are believable and enchanting. The narrator provides the best kind of storytelling. She makes the characters come to life and draws you into their world.

I had a great time listening to this audiobook. I can’t wait to start the next.

I received an Audible code from the author for this book. I thank her for her generosity, but it had no effect on this review. All opinions in this review reflect my true and honest reactions to listening to this book.

Still trapped in the Badlands, now living with the people of Kusuri Village - who are *not*, according to them, a part of the Badlands Army - Imogen and friends are trying to figure out what to do, when they are offered the chance to take a mini vacation if they can help deliver some tea. All agree and off they go for some much needed R&R. Unfortunately, they are staying at the spa owned and operated by a woman believed to be a black widow. When a dead man turns up, Imogen tries to refrain from solving his death. But it just seems too suspicious! So the crew all take part in figuring out whodunit. It's cute and fun and feels like a calm before the storm. I adore Horace's reveal near the end and the last chapter is a bit of a tear-jerker. I can't wait to see what's next.

Island Idyll

So the bakery team are settling in and finding their feet when they have an opportunity to help Jun with his families tea delivery and visit a beach spa across the island.

It's the annual monster manta migration and the guard will be working to keep the fishermen safe from the increased monster numbers trying to benefit from the increased plankton levels.

Staying at the Doragon Spa with Miss Sara who is known as a black widow after several of her husbands and lovers have died in strange circumstances. The gang are dubious when Yann falls in love with Miss Sara and after another mysterious death set out to solve the mystery. Even a spa break can get a bit murdery with the bakers around.

It's been a while since I read the previous book, but the whole tale came rushing back. Our friends are settling in in the Badlands, which aren't all that bad when you get used to them. Imogen and friends have another mystery to solve and more interesting people to meet.

The writing, as always is stellar; the descriptions of the magical manga migration let me experience it in my imagination. Quite a feat! The characters are growing and changing, which is exactly what I hope for in a series. I won't wait so long before reading the next one.
