In a world where I had no say, violence became my refuge. Nothing else mattered, not even my own life, until her: Skyler Bell. It all started the first time I heard that voice, giving me hope for tomorrow. My first love was everything all at once—consuming, maddening, forever, mine. Except I never imagined there were secrets that needed to be shared, lies that needed to be confessed, truths that needed to be told, demons that needed to be buried. Once I realized that the depth, the longing, and the sadness and sorrow in her eyes mirrored my own, it was too late. Love didn’t come to me as heartbreak; it came as everything I’d ever desired. Walking away wasn’t an option I wanted; it was the only one I had. I finally found the price of love, and it cost me my soul.

heart wrenching

This is a heart wrenching story from beginning almost to the end. I really *felt* for these two MC’s a couple different times. Sometimes things were going the characters way but it never lasted. Each MC had a tragedy that shaped their lives. As the years roll by and the MC’s are thrown together time and again. I Bit one thing or another pulls them apart. I am not sure if they can and should be able to stay together.

Some of these secondary characters made me angry, some just saddened me, a couple made me want to cry.

This is a first time author for me. At the beginning I felt like I was reading a story about 25 year olds not pre teens. I thought and felt that the stuff that young Noah did and said was a bit over the top for his age of 11-13. I could be wrong since I know he grew up in the MC and I can’t fathom what he has seen. His mother seemed to try to ground the boys so I would have hoped some of her softness would have rubbed off on them. I see Skylar has same problem. She is not shocked or surprised at what comes out of his mouth. I just think at that age sex etc is the furthest thing from their minds. Once adulthood is reached when comments are made they sound just perfect for the character and his/her portrayal.

I listened to this on audio. The narrators did a good job. There were a few things I wish would have been done differently. When Noah was a pre-teen boy his voice sounded the same gruff tone as he did when he was an adult. Maybe a younger boys voice would have been good. My other issue was the sound quality. When Noah talked normally I could hardly hear him so I turned it up. Then when he got mad and yelled...it was way too loud in my ear. So that was kind of a hassle.

Otherwise these narrartors did a good job and both of their voices were

Amazing and intense book with heartache and love.

I absolutely loved this audible book and Brian Callahan did an amazing job narrating and bringing the story to life. This book is seriously an intense, heartbreaking, angst filled, emotional, beautifully written book. I loved every word but, I loved the chemistry and respect between Noah and Skyler the most.
