5 Perfect Stranger Stars ⭐️

Filthy Rich was everything I hoped it to be. The first book in a new series of standalones by Julie Kriss, this office romance was effortless to read, well written and undeniably seductive. Without the usual drama expected with this trope, I couldn’t help but swoon and sit back and enjoy the ride.

"I felt myself smiling, a giddy feeling going through my blood. This man just got me. Pieces and all, he got me."

Samantha Riley is the executive assistant to the accomplished and mysterious Aidan Winters. Accustomed to working with overbearing and conceited CEO’s, Samantha finds herself happy and satisfied in her position for the first time in a long time. The fact that her boss Aidan is gorgeous is just an added plus.

Aidan Winters enjoys keep his personal life separate and doesn’t take his success lightly. This involves treating his staff professionally and respectively - and never crossing that line, or so he believed until she gave him the perfect opportunity.

When by chance they realize that their attraction is mutual and that they share a similar scenario that turns their crank, surely this is affirmation enough for both Aidan and Samantha to explore it together?

"I wanted him. If there was a way to hide that, I didn’t know what it was. I wanted to taste him and to touch him. I didn’t care if he was picking me up in a bar for a ‪one-night‬ stand. I wanted him any way I could get him, for as long as I could have him.".

Although keeping their professional and personal lives separate after hours is thrilling, it is inevitable that lines will blur. Fortunately sometimes people just need a shove in the right direction. And how sweet it was. 💜

Filthy Rich is book one in the brand new series, Filthy Rich, by Julie Kriss. This is my very first book by Julie. I’ve been seeing her books everywhere and I thought this new series would be a great place to jump in.

Aidan Winters, the man in black as he was known around New York, is a somewhat mysterious, very rich bachelor that is CEO of Tower Venture Capital’s New York Office. Aidan is mysterious because he always is seen in public wearing black, and he is always alone. No one really knows what he does in his private time. But in the business world, he is both feared and respected.

Samantha Riley is perhaps the best executive assistant in New York. She does everything to perfection. She’s had some unpleasant bosses in the past but she loves working for Aidan. She’s been with him for three months and it’s the best job she’s had. He’s also the best looking boss she’s ever had. She’s attracted to him. He makes her jittery in a way no one ever has. But she can keep her fantasies for the times she’s alone at home, right? At work, she can be all business.

couple meet at the bar

Aidan loves having Samantha as his assistant. She’s probably the best one he’s ever had. But he can’t get her off his mind. He can’t jeopardize their working relationship by letting her know that he’s been thinking of her in some very inappropriate ways.

filthy rich julie kriss - Google Search

Samantha and Aidan’s attraction grows until they have to either walk away from each other, or find a way to deal with it. They do find a way to cross the line, a game, a way to divide their work selves from their private selves. Only after awhile, that line too becomes blurred. Until games aren’t enough.

This was a super sexy story that I really enjoyed. Samantha and Aidan’s chemistry was HOT! The reason for the four star rating is that I just feel like I missed the emotional connection a little bit. Their times together were focused on their game, on their chemistry. I never really felt the emotional connection as much as I wanted to. Or it could just be me. It probably is! None the less, it was a sexy, fun book that I completely enjoyed and look forward to more by this author. The future books in the series will feature Aidan’s three partners in their company. The next book will be Dane’s story.

The reason why I picked up this book is because of the fantasy. I thought it is going to be hot fantasy. When I figured it out, I am confuse. That's the fantasy??

I am a bit disappointed. I prefer Aiden all the way. Not many alter ego he plays along. I want Miss Kriss to develop more on the seduction and the chemistry between the characters. The sex is also PG.

Overall I still enjoy this book OK.

Second read 2023:
Daaamn, this story is freaking h.o.t.

Original review 2020:
I don't remember everything about this story as I've read it while on a work trip, so I'll probably have to get back to it again at some point. But what I do remember, this book was fast paced, hot and a little sweet.

PS. Just saw my updates and it seems that something must've been reeeally good there, so I will definitely reread it soon.

3.5 stars.

Wasn’t fleshed out well enough and there were grammatical errors.

However, the H was the highlight of the book. A guy who doesn’t have the attitude “I always get what I want”. He rather stated that he didn’t get everything he wanted most of the time. His mentality was rather “I’ll work and fight with everything I have to have something that i value. And i will work to win”. He didn’t come across cocky or arrogant. Was extremely respectful of the h. To him no means no. Even if the h doesn’t mean her no, it doesn’t mean he will assume “your mouth says no, but body says yes so I have the right to ignore your protests”. He lets the h know, politely that he can sense her dilemma, he can sense she’s not denying him with conviction, but because she’s saying no, he’ll stop right there.

He was absolutely not an asshole, neither a manwhore. He does have occasional ONS yes, couple of times a year. As that is no different from the sexual activities of most of the people I know, I cannot fault him for that. He hasn’t slept with anyone since even before the h started working for him. He goes out couple of nights, but since all he thinks about is h, he doesn’t pick up anyone, as he’s no longer interested. And this is even before he had any idea the h would ever want him.

The little drama in the end felt forced and unnecessary. That’s why it was 3.5 stars. It could have been resolved in way better ways.

The first half of this office romance story paced slowly while the second half run so fast that I was trying hard to catch up.
The characters didn’t grip me, they shared a good chemistry but didn’t inspire any emotions. They said they loved each other yet it felt completely flat and unfeeling.

Julie Kriss has taken the age old office romance taboo story and turned it on it's head

Typically in an office romance the couple first try to fight their feelings and then try to hide their romance. Not Samantha and Aiden, no because they know that it would be too much risk, a jeopardy they are not willing to take. So the game is born. A game where two 'stranger' hook up for a few hours of hot passion, no strings, no ties. Well written and entertaining, this is a wonderful love story that feels fresh and exciting.

The book is surprisingly slow burn, taking quite a while to reach the 'game'. I think in part this was due to world building for the series as a whole, as well as just allowing us to get to know these two as people. One of the thing I most enjoy about this author's work is how real her characters feel. They aren't prepared to throw a good working relationship into the wind because of their attraction.

Even though Aiden is now richer than Croesus he came from a poor and unloving home. He is a wonderful mix of intensely private and open book. A pretty simple man who struggles to trust and doesn't know how to let go. Life has left Samantha with a 'piece of her jigsaw puzzle' missing, her quest for security and safety means romance and love are too dangerous. Two believable, likeable and humanly flawed main characters who you can't help but adore.

There are so many 'gimmicky' genre's out there at the moment, so many trends and fashions. Filthy Rich doesn't need any of them because it's a great story, with good writing and engaging characters.

Although not a new writer, this was a “new to me” author, and I am hooked!! This book pulled me in from the very start, and I loved every minute of it. It was fast paced, well thought out, and thoroughly readable. I am thrilled to discover that Ms. Kriss has many other books in her catalog because I have a new well from which to draw new reading material!

Aiden Winters is the CEO of Tower Venture Capital. The enigmatic and intimidating Man in Black, seen out and about in New York, but never with a woman by his side. The one woman keeping every together for him? Samantha. Samantha has proven her worth as an executive assistant, and always kept a business-like demeanor. But when both of them start to develop feelings for one another that are decidedly unprofessional, they devise a solution. Aiden and Samantha can’t have a relationship. But what if they weren’t themselves? What if they were other people? What if they were two strangers that met and gave in to their feelings and then went their separate ways?

As a plot, this was without a doubt sexy. The getting into character was intriguing and erotic. It allowed Samantha and Aiden to have the illusion of raunchy, tawdry one night stands with strangers, without the risk or regrets associated with acting on such a fantasy. And oddly enough, it allowed them to get to know one another better. By shedding the costumes they wore for the world, they were able to let their true inner feelings out under the guise of it being yet another persona. I loved reading the role play between these two and the trust and emotional pull it created.

This is the first book that I have read by Julie Kriss and it won’t be my last. This book was so good. Samantha is the executive assistant to Aidan. She has fantasized about him but has never crossed the line as it would be unprofessional since he is her boss. The attraction between then is hard to fight so they decide to play a little game but while playing, real feelings start to become involved and Aidan doesn’t want to play, he wants to make it more real. Their chemistry was off the charts and I can’t wait to read more of this series.

I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

3.5 “pieces” “the game” “Man in Black” Kisses

Wow…that was awesome! I went into Filthy Rich expecting fun, sexy times and I got that and so much more. I very, very often sign up to review books and because I have the memory of a goldfish, I never really remember the full synopsis when it comes time to read it…that was kind of the case with Filthy Rich. Granted…it’s not the books fault, it’s my crap memory’s fault but I know I wouldn’t have the book on my kindle if I didn’t want it there…and I’m so glad Filthy Rich was on my kindle. The characters were very relatable and I completely fell head over heels, the flow was fantastic – I really never wanted to put it down and I really enjoyed Julie’s writing.

Samantha Riley…oh Samantha/Sarah/Rachel/Leigh…whatever you wanna call her, I really liked her. It definitely helped that I saw a lot of myself in her…but it wasn’t the only reason. I loved how driven she is and how good she is at her job. It’s easy to brush off the Executive Assistant or not think too much of that position and I loved that she took her job very seriously and excelled at it to the degree that she did. At first, Samantha can come off a little straight laced…she’s very tightly controlled, but once you get to know her it kind of makes sense, all though I did want to see her break out of her shell a bit more. We get a lot of insight about her, most of it coming towards the end and it was all great stuff, but I would have loved to dig deeper with her earlier on and really see her exploring the different sides of herself. She made a lot of progress, especially with the help of Aidan but I think there was a lot more potential there. I can’t say that Aidan changed her but he definitely encouraged her to be braver and explore herself more and I loved what that did for her character.

‘There was the briefest pause between us, an acknowledgment that we were going downhill on the roller coaster together. The momentum was starting. We weren’t Samantha and Aidan, we were Sarah and John. We were both in this. We were doing it.’

Aidan Winters…well hello to The Man in Black! There is a lot to love about Aidan…or John…or William…or Max…or whatever name he wants to go by…I loved all the different pieces that made up Aidan. He’s a very distinct hero…he’s got the whole alpha-suit-businessman thing down pat but he also has this edge to him that makes him just…different. I liked it…a lot. It probably comes from his upbringing…he was on his own from an early age and I think it forced him to grow up a lot quicker than most. But if anything, his rough start is what led him to the career and company he has, so it definitely was a good learning experience. I loved the story of Aidan and his friends and how they built their company, Tower VC. Also, understanding Aidan’s past…how he grew up…it explains a lot about why he is the way he is. He’s very closed off…he has his ‘circle of trust’ if you will and it’s very small and limited…but it works for Aidan. And as much as Aidan had an effect on Samantha, she had a similar effect on him…and I couldn’t help but love that.

“I’ve never met anyone who actually likes what they do.”
“I do.” As both Rachel and Samantha, I meant it. “I like what I do.”
He leaned closer. I could smell his scent mixed with rain, and the mixture made my blood pound. He reached up and touched his thumb to my cheek, brushing away a drop of rain that had blown there. “Then you’re fascinating, Rachel,” he said, his voice low. “At least to me.”

Samantha and Aidan are just…effortless chemistry. They’re so similar and I know they say opposites attract, but not in this case. The fact that they have a lot in common only helps make their connection seem that much more amazing. I loved that they fought it at first….I kinda wanted a little bit more from that though – I mean that’s part of the ‘forbidden’ element of all of this and aside from their inner frustrations there wasn’t any particular incident between them specifically to show that underlying attraction. Plus, that always adds to the angst factor and while I did love a lot about Samantha and Aiden…there was minimal angst between them. But holy smokes did they set my kindle on fire with the role playing aspect…like wowza – super hawt and I loved the way it opened both of them up. Just like with Samantha and Aidan individually, I feel like there was a lot more potential to open them both up emotionally…tap into their vulnerability – we get to see some great moments but I didn’t feel the impact as much as I would have liked.

“You were fucking magnificent that night,” Aidan said, reading my mind. “I’ve never seen a more beautiful woman in my life.”
I made myself speak. “Rachel the art student was a role, Aidan. It wasn’t me.”
“Your roles were the most honest you’ve ever been,” he said matter-of-factly. “With me, or with yourself. Everything you did while in character told me something about the real you. And I missed none of it.”

Well…it’s confession time…Filthy Rich is my first Julie Kriss book! I have no idea what took me so long but I definitely think this was an awesome start to a new author I could get addicted to. I really do like Julie’s style…her flow is really good, chapters are on the short side, but it usually worked out well with the pacing of the story. I loved the vibe and connection to the characters…her details were precise and not too over the top – I do love my fluff at times, but it worked in this context. I will say there was one thing that caught my attention…. a few times there were situations with the dialogue where it felt like I had missed something and I had to re-read. The main one that really threw me for a loop was Samantha and Aidan’s text convo about her signal right before he came over to her apartment…it was just so out of left field, the lack of segue confused me. It was so weird and random that it caught me completely off guard especially when everything else flowed so perfectly so that’s the main reason it caught my attention but I just found it super odd. I swear I feel like I’m being super critical of a book that I actually really enjoyed and I hate that. I am so excited that Julie is going to make a series out of this because I’m totally digging the Tower VC vibe…each guy is so different but they just work as a unit and watching each one of them fall in love is going to be a blast.

“You’re mine,” he said as he started to move. He kissed me again, his stubble scraping my skin as his body owned me. “You’re the only woman for me. Admit it, Samantha. You’re fucking mine.”
“Yes,” I said, pulling him down to me, running my lips along his jaw, inhaling him with every breath. “I’m yours. You know all the pieces of me.”

The ending was…unfortunately a bit predictable. That’s not to say it was bad by any means but it was a little on the cliché side and that was kind of a bummer for me…especially when it had felt so new and fresh from the beginning. I felt like a lot of the choices were a little predictable but the outcome was still what I wanted, so I really couldn’t be mad at that. I am super excited about the characters for the next book in the Filthy Rich series…Sexy as Sin because it’s going to be about Dane, another partner in Tower VC and one of Aidan’s besties and *cue drum roll* Ava, Aidan’s sister!!!! I loooooooove the little sister/brother’s bestie trope and I love the juxtaposition with Dane being the nerd and Ava being the fashionista and I seriously cannot wait to see what Julie does with them! I’m also crossing my fingers that Samantha’s sister Emma might also get involved with one of these Tower VC guys...I mean she would be a great match for either Noah or Alex.

From the sexy cover to the intriguing synopsis, Kriss delivers a great forbidden romance between a boss and his assistant that is filled with steamy scenes to keep you reading until the very end.

In Filthy Rich we get to meet Samantha, a twenty-nine year old executive assistant who has been working in the business for nine years after her sister brought her in to work for Executive Ranks. This company specializes in providing executive assistants to the most high-level clients and Samantha was her best recruit. Now she is the most sought after executive assistant in the company. But with her experience Samantha has seen it all, she has worked for so many kinds of bosses and non can compare to Aidan Winters. It has been three months since she started working for the CEO of Tower Venture Capital and she finds herself thinking about him constantly. He has been kind and generous to her ever since she started working for him and a misunderstanding gets them to reveal how they truly feel about each other things begin to change. There is no way they can be a couple since they work together, so they decide to play a game, one that will assure them anonymity at night and business by day. It’s a dangerous game when neither one wants to get feelings involved, but the more they do it the more she starts to feel more and that’s when the game threatens to end any type of future for them.

As the CEO of a major venture capital company, Aidan Winters is ruthless and brilliant when it comes to making billions. He is known as the Man in Black to gossip sites, who all report on his private life and who he is with at events. But he is always alone in his all-black suit that attracts women all around him. Yet, the only person he has eyes for is his executive assistant. He can’t stop thinking about her and will do anything in his power to keep her happy and safe. When they have the opportunity to act on their wildest fantasies, the only rule is to keep things temporary and not involved romance but he knows that she is it for him and he’ll have to convince her that they belong together before it’s too late.

Not having read any other works by the author before, I didn’t know what to expect before reading Filthy Rich. Needless to say, I very much enjoyed reading this book. Julie Kriss did a great job exploring the characters’ pasts and their development throughout the story. It’s evident that both of the characters have things to work on, but they are able to work through them together. Their chemistry is sizzling and undeniable. The only thing that I didn’t like as much was the ending, it felt a bit rushed. But it had a good ending, perfect introduction for the rest of the series. I would highly recommend checking out this book, I cannot wait to read more from the author in the future. :)

This is the first book in the series Filthy Rich and my first dive into Julie's writing! I am now quite the fan girl and cannot wait to read more of what she has to offer!
Aiden Winters is a handsome suave business man that is know to be ruthless and private ...known as the Man in Black. He always shows up to events alone and no one knows what he does in his private time. Yes he has friends but they go back along way and know him better than anyone ever will. They have a bond .
Samantha has made a name for herself in the business world as the Perfect Assistant . She goes above and beyond and never crosses the professional line . These two private people soon learn some interesting secrets about one another and that will now lead to a privvate game of acting out their deepest darkest fantasies for one night !!!! They had an amazing chemistry and such smart witty banter !!!Oh my this was a steamy slow build up read ! Loved their story!

Aidan makes a decent host, “feel free to clean up,” I said. “There are clean towels in the bathroom. I’ll get us a drink.” Aidan knows how to compromise, "...if it bothers you, we’ll limit our social appearances. That’s fine with me anyway. It gives me more time home alone with you in bed.” I liked this book, I liked Aidan.

This was on BookBub and I bought it because I think Julie Kriss delivers a predictably solid alpha male contemporary, which I tend to enjoy and just sometimes I want what I want. Also, I know I shouldn't, but I super love the whole "he's the boss/she's the assistant" trope.

Here's what I will say as a general thought--this book made me think a lot about where a synopsis can go wrong. As you can see, it says "And then, one night, I discover Aidan’s sexy secret. And he discovers mine. Now we play a very dirty game. By day, we’re all business. But by night… he’s not Aidan and I’m not me."

Now, the million dollar question is: IF A PLOT POINT IS HIGHLIGHTED IN THE BLURB, WHEN SHOULD IT ARRIVE IN THE BOOK? I'd argue that I should have hit this by 25% *at the absolute latest.* And in this case, the aforementioned secrets and games don't hit until the 50% mark, and I think it's far too late. And I ended up rushing through the first half kind of wondering if it was a massive bait and switch. But this question is one I'm interested in for a lot of reasons, because other times blurbs hint at very late in the game plot twists, so much so that they seem like spoilers.

I did have a fine time reading it, it was what I want when I wanted it! But I think the blurb set me up for a plot development that arrived later than I expected.

Ohh I liked this ALOT!.

So this is my first book from Julie Kriss and I can happily confirm that it will not be the last. Filthy Rich is your office romance with a little bit of a forbidden fantasy element mixed in with an almost friends to lovers vibe. I digged the whole feel of this story.

Aidan Winters, CEO of Tower Venture Capitals's New York aka the man in black is known for his cutthroat take no bullshit attitude when it comes to business. He likes money a lot and coming from a place where he had nothing only made him work harder for it with no distractions.

Samantha Riley, exclusive assistant for hire Is the best in the business. She's worked with all the rich entitled asshole CEO's there is and Aidan Winters is a different breed of CEO. She loves her job and she's good at it so what happens when she starts feeling some kind of way for the one person she's not supposed to.

I really enjoyed this fresh take on office romance. Aidan and Samantha are both really strong independent characters that are likeable and easily relatable. I love that instead of fighting the attraction throughout Julie chose to take a different route and turn it into a fantasy between them whilst still maintaining who they are fundamentally as characters. The plot progressed quickly between them until it came to a point were they either admit what they have is real or they both go separate ways through sheer stubborn stupidity. I like that there isn't much angst or back and forth bull between them. The chemistry from day dot is fire and only burnt hotter as their story progressed. It all felt natural between them which made it easy to believe in them and their journey.

I only have one small gripe and that is that I'd really liked to have had a little more of them as a couple at the end because I feel like we didn't get much of that. That being said I really enjoyed this story and all the characters and I'm super interested to read Dane and Ava's story because I feel like that's going to be pure fire!!.

This is a comfort reread due to the time of year. I just read the second book and wanted to reread the first one again. My grade stays the same. I loved this book but loved the second book even more.

*******

Anyone who follows my reviews knows this review had to be coming soon. I can’t get enough of this authors books. This is the start of a new series and is the tale of Aidan Winters, high powered business owner and Samantha, his ultra-talented Administrative Assistant.

Samantha is the cream of the crop when it comes to AA’s. She demands high pay and she gets it she is so proficient at job. Unfortunately though, a lot of her bosses have been real jerks. That is until she becomes AA for Aidan Winters. He’s like any other she has had. Though very distant, he’s respectful and appreciates all that she does for him. It doesn’t hurt that he’s also young and extremely nice to look at. In fact she has an unspoken crush on him. What Samantha doesn’t realize is Aidan is just as taken with her but he’s her boss. Neither of them come from a real stable home life. Samantha and her sister were abandoned very early in life and while they had wonderful people who adopted them, they both have a huge hole. Aiden had a very negligent upbringing and had only himself and his friends to rely on.

While not one her most memorable books, I still thought this a great book and I look forward to reading more books in this series about a group of men who have launched a successful business and the women they fall for.

ARC read in return for an honest review.

When Samantha starts working for the devastatingly handsome billionaire Aiden Winters things are kept on a strictly professional basis, she’s his assistant, there to do a job, one which she’s extremely good at however as time goes on even Samantha herself can’t deny how attractive New York’s most sought after bachelor is, but sleeping with her boss isn’t something that’s crossed her mind..... until now. With sparks flying between Samantha and Aiden it soon becomes clear she’s not the only one harbouring feelings, Aiden can’t keep his mind off his executive assistant and before long it’s his hands too. The pair embark on a series of sexy, risqué situations where there’s lots of hot, dirty sex without any danger to their reputations or risk to their hearts but with things heating up between the sheets (or against the walls) it doesn’t take long for feelings to become involved and lies being outed as truths, being fake has never been so real for Aiden and Samantha.

I absolutely loved this book and I’m excited to see what’s in-store for the other partners, I can already tell this is going to be a must read series. Brilliantly written with extremely likeable protagonists both main and secondary making this another five star read from the amazing Julie Kriss.

Aidan and Samantha were fun and they had fantastic chemistry as well as a respect for one another that added an interesting layer to the story. I liked a lot about this...I liked that it was an office romance, and I liked that they were both concerned about being professional and appropriate.

I also liked the secret and the dimension that it gave to the story. I liked that it made it feel like you were exploring a different aspect of the couple, a different direction that made their story completely theirs.

The only issue I had with this is I wanted more of them together, of them pursuing the secret he keeps and playing the "dirty game" that is mentioned in the blurb. I think I was waiting for the book to get to this part of the story, and I did feel that it moved a little slowly getting to it and then moved through the "game" rather quickly.

Overall, I did enjoy this title. This is the first book I have read by this author, and it won't be the last (I can't wait for the next one!). I recommend this title.
