Pelosi’s failure to rein in Schiff and end the damage he is causing to America’s national interest will be another nail in the Democrats’ coffin as America swings into election mode.

Democrats forsake USA national interest for partisan politics

Democrats forsake USA national interest for partisan politics

The continuing push by the Democrats to impeach President Trump—in the absence of any evidence of bipartisan support—inimical to America’s national interest.

World leaders assessing what is currently happening in the ongoing impeachment investigations could be tempted to go slow on—or simply stall—current negotiations being conducted with Trump whose occupancy of the White House they might consider uncertain.

Perceiving Trump as a politically-weakened

Those leaders might also be encouraged to harden their negotiating positions to pursue an outcome less favourable to America than would otherwise have been possible without these impeachment hearings.

The Democrat majority on the House Intelligence Committee under the Chairmanship of Adam Schiff is clearly ignoring the warning that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued on March  11, 2019:

“I’m not for impeachment. This is news. I’m going to give you some news right now because I haven’t said this to any press person before. But since you asked, and I’ve been thinking about this: Impeachment is so divisive to the country that unless there’s something so compelling and overwhelming and bipartisan, I don’t think we should go down that path, because it divides the country. And he’s [Trump] just not worth it.”

Perceiving Trump as a politically-weakened President could well be the reason that Beijing has now reportedly doubled down on demands that may threaten to delay a preliminary trade agreement with the U.S. Beijing is apparently insisting that the U.S. withdraw all tariffs levied since last year before entering into any such agreement.

Trump's Trade Deals

Trump still expects to sign an initial trade agreement with China this month despite the cancellation of the APEC summit in Chile that was to have been held between 11-17 November where Trump had hoped to seal the agreement.

If this does not transpire - the Chinese change of heart could well be attributed to the impeachment proceedings against Trump —with China believing it can secure a better deal than that already negotiated.

Impeachment hearings have been put forward perversely as a reason for making the signing of the United States-Mexico-Canada trade deal negotiated by Trump more likely.  Delayed by the Democrats refusal in Congress to approve its terms—this line of reasoning argues that Trump needs a win and Democrats are eager to show they can still deliver important legislation while investigating the President.

If Congress continues its current delaying tactics —this reasoning will be exposed as fallacious.

Given the Democrats current mood, it would be a miracle if the Democrats did anything that might advance Trump’s political fortunes.

Pelosi understands the damage partisan politics

Trump’s ability to deal with the leaders of hot-spots around the world including:

  • Iran
  • NATO
  • The European Union
  • North Korea
  • Turkey
  • Israel and Jordan
  • Britain and Brexit
  • Iraq
  • Russia
  • Ukraine
  • Saudi Arabia

could be unfavourably impacted by a partisan impeachment process—irrespective of whether that process ever reaches a trial in the Senate.

The worst image the Democrats can present to world leaders is a President facing the threat of possibly being removed before his term of office expires.

Trump has proven himself as the master of the deal— with the ability to change the course of world events using his bold, innovative and unconventional negotiating skills. Diminishing or undermining those skills in any way cannot possibly benefit America’s national interest.

Pelosi understands the damage partisan politics can do to the national interest. She seems unable or unwilling to stop Schiff in his tracks and end his moment in the limelight.

Pelosi’s failure to rein in Schiff and end the damage he is causing to America’s national interest will be another nail in the Democrats’ coffin as America swings into election mode.
