Clifton Forge #2

Riven Knight

Rate this book
Genevieve Daylee didn’t expect to be standing in front of a judge on her twenty-seventh birthday. But ever since her life became entangled with a former motorcycle gang, she’s learned not to expect anything but trouble.

Her mother, a woman she once admired and adored, is gone, leaving behind a trail of secrets and lies. She’s living in a tiny apartment above a garage owned by her brother, a man who loathes her very existence. And the father she met beside her mother’s grave is as much of a stranger as Isaiah Reynolds, the broken man with soulless eyes standing beside her in front of the judge.

Isaiah is her protector from the murderer at large in Clifton Forge. Though he’s more like a riven knight in dented armor than a prince on a white stallion. She knows next to nothing about him, other than he works as a mechanic. As of tonight, he’ll be sharing her bathroom.

And, according to the judge, Isaiah is now her husband.

I am not going to say a lot about this one, but what I will say is that I was disappointed. The first half of the story was sooo boring. I actually thought about not finishing it but I am one of those people that can’t not finish a book once I have started it!!!
I also had trouble with feeling any great emotions for the main characters. I didn’t get a huge romance vibe through out this whole book. Isaiah definitely deserved a more epic story in my opinion.

Once the second half came, I was already feeling blah about the story, and then something really big happened. To say I was shocked, would be a huge understatement!!!! By that point, I became a little more into everything but my overall feeling of the book was set.

All in all, I was disappointed. I had no issues with the quality of writing though. I have always loved this author’s books... I am hoping the next instalment will be much better.

I want to thank Steph for another great Buddy Read! We still need to search for a five star read for this year Steph!!! ❤️❤️❤️

'RIVEN KNIGHT' is the second full length romance book in Devney Perry's 'Tin Gypsy' series. It picks up where the first book left off. Spoken in 'Dual Perspectives.'

I really loved this one, more so than the previous book 'Gypsy King,' once I got it into my head that it wasn't going to be a full on dark gritty MC read I enjoyed it for what it was. A no frills romance book which threw out all the feels, raw, realistic, riveting which got its hooks into me straight away, pulling me in so many directions as I fell in love with these two characters. Even though their relationship aka marriage was a farce it became something real in the end and I loved reading their emotional slow burn journey.

Ex-con man Isaiah is our newly appointed mechanic at the Tin Gypsies garage at Clifton Forge residing above the garage with his new wife Genevieve. Isaiah's back story is an emotional one, making him believe he's not worthy of the freedom and new life he has been given after serving his time. A man of few words. A man holding a world of pain in deep.

A marriage of convenience. The words 'I do,' sealing their fates.

Isaiah wasn’t mine to keep forever. Eventually he’d move on to find someone who made him truly happy. The selfish part of me loathed the idea of a different, future Mrs. Reynolds who’d get more than subtle grins.

Twenty-seven year old Genevieve has lost everything of importance to her, starting with the tragic death of her mother who we learned was murdered in a secluded motel where she'd gone to meet her lover in secret. Stabbed seven times, the killer still at large. As she grieves the loss of her mother, she comes to realise that her mother wasn't as perfect as she assumed. Many secrets are uncovered.

If my heart left her breathless, then hers gave me a reason to breathe.

After reading the first book in this series, I was excited to get to Isaiah and Genevieve’s story and I was intrigued to find out what was going on as we followed the suspenseful storyline from the previous story.

Genevieve and Isaiah go into a marriage of convince after Isaiah saves her from a traumatic experience. They do this to protect one another and even though they are virtually strangers, they become friends. There is nothing better than watching two strangers in forced proximity fall in love. Gosh, I just love it so much. Isaiah has secrets from his past, though the reveal wasn’t a real reveal for me (I’ve read Devney’s book Tragic in her Lark Cove series which is about Isaiah’s brother, so I already knew, my memory just needed jogged) I still enjoyed it.

The mystery and suspense element took a few turns I wasn’t expecting. Honestly, I didn’t see a lot of this coming. Most everything from the first book was tied up, but I’m so excited we are getting Presley’s book next. I love this set of characters and I can’t wait to see what direction her book takes!

P.S.: It's been a while since I wrote a review or read a book in french so here we’re.

My first FIVE STAR read of 2020! You guys, this series has ruined me. It's EVERYTHING I want to read. The characters are incredible. The storyline is ADDICTING. I have cried and laughed and swooned and ached and felt ALL THE THINGS! I'm a mess over Isaiah and Genevieve's romance. IT. IS. PERFECTION. A slowburn that has so much tension and passion and feelings! It's just... no words. All the questions we had after Gypsy King are answered in Riven Knight, and it's going to make your JAW DROP and have your heart pumping. WHAT A RIDE. This is a MUST READ. If you haven't started Gypsy King, DO IT NOW. And if you have, you are in for an absolute treat with Riven Knight. I AM SIMPLY BLOWN AWAY!

Isaiah looked in the mirror and saw everlasting broken pieces, but maybe my broken pieces would fit with his. Together, maybe we’d make a whole.

Oh.
Oh wow.
My whole heart right now.
This story owned me from beginning to finish.

I remember a day when I used to devour MC romance. Now? Not so much. It all just kind of started blending into one another. Or it was filled with gratuitous violence and crazy plot twists for shock value. This book? This book reminded me all over again why I loved MC in the first place. But it's so much more then that too. It's a heart wrenching, heart pounding, and beautiful romance full of suspense and incredible depth.
She needed to leave this town and fade into a memory. Before I forgot that I didn’t deserve her.

You need to read this series in order. Even though Riven Knight is the story of a different couple, there's an overarching story arc that continues from book one. This is the story of the mysterious Isaiah and Genevieve, and It. Was. Everything.

Isaiah has been the quiet and unassuming recent addition in the Tin Gypsies garage. The man is an ex-con, and you just know those soulful eyes of his hide some dark demons and pain. Genevieve is Dash's half-sister that he didn't know existed from an affair he's still struggling to forgive his father for. But while Dash is dealing with her, she's struggling just as much with her new reality. Her mother has been murdered, her killer is still on the lose, and the father she never knew about is suddenly wanting to get to know her. Add into this her sudden marriage to Isaiah for a secret that both of them are keeping close to the vest, and there's a lot of things happening in this story.

The story is multi-layered and the characters even more so. Both Isaiah and Genevieve had so much depth, every new page revealed a new layer. I loved watching them unknowingly fall for each other during their fake marriage. I loved their road to happiness.

There's a lot of events happening around The Warriors and Tin Gypsy, and plenty of twists and turns along the way. I don't remember the last time a book was able to evoke so much emotion and reaction out of me. It gutted me, it broke me, and then it put me right back together again. I cannot wait for the next book. I'm so addicted to this series!

First thing first ... how do I become beta reader for this series?

Oh okay, I am ASKING for ME!!

Reading this book was a whole experience. Which is the case- usually( if the writing is good)...when you have an interesting & slow burn plotline, realistic setting, good characters and mystery that started a book ago...All checks out with this one. Ms. Perry did an excellent job with this book!
Marriage of convenience done absolutely well & real...
All other subjects such as loss, grief, past mistakes, guilt, sacrifice, forgiveness, past demons... marvelously written and interwoven in this story.

I love everything about this series!!

I have to applaud the unique premise of this series and that is what happens with the MC club when they decide to clean their act & stop being a club.

Devney outdid herself with Riven Knight! Such uniquely layered characters woven into this gritty, and emotional read. I geared up a few times with Isaiah & Genevieve. They were truly special, and had deep hurts and fears that were controlling their lives...until they let go into each other, letting all the walls and armor fall to dust.

I love a marriage of convenience story so much, especially when it has a slowwww Burn. The chemistry between these characters was precious. To go from not being friends to best friends to lovers. My cocktail of choice.

“Isaiah looked in the mirror and saw everlasting broken pieces, but maybe my broken pieces would fit with his. Together, maybe we’d make a whole.”

I was literally trying to figure this mystery out, and at times was on the edge of my seat groping for answers.

Bravo, Devney!! Can’t wait for Stone Princess!

Ahhhh this book was so sweet! This is a marriage of convenience and the romance was just so slow burn and so sweet! Isaiah and Genevieve literally don't even know each other, but they get married to protect each other after Isaiah saved Genevieve from being kidnapped after losing her mother to murder. Genevieve's entire life was turned upside down and I felt for her so much! Isaiah also went through a lot in his life and the way he acted around Genevieve was just so sweet. There was also a lot of mystery carried over from book one, so the plot overall was keeping me intrigued and on the edge of my seat. This was just so cute and definitely my favorite of the series so far!!

I loved this book!! You first meet Isaiah as a side character in the Lark Cove series so I loved that we got to see more of him and his story. He definitely deserved a HEA after learning about his past in Tragic and I’m so glad he got it <3

This book picks up straight from where book 1 ended in terms of the murder mystery plot. I was glad to finally get closure and the murderer reveal definitely took my by surprise.

I don’t want to say too much as to why Genevieve and Isaiah got into a marriage of convenience as it will ruin part of the plot but trust me when I say it was so good!! There was the secrecy, the forced kisses and affection in front of their family/friends and it had a great slow burn from being a fake relationship to a real one.

Now this is the story I am expecting from Miss Perry. After disappointed with Gypsy King, Riven Knight brings me back in love with Miss Perry.

I usually do not like a story where the main reason/ plot hidden until the end of the book. But not with this book. Even Miss Perry hidden away the plot if whats is happening in that cabin, she enetartains us with the chemistry between the main characters.

It is sweet, lonely, broken and sometimes innocent. I can feel the loneliness of the characters navigating their life and I cheer them when they finally giving into the attraction.

Note: I still do not like Bryce. She is the most immature, childish character on the entite book.

Spoilers ahead 2* with a bump cuz there was no sleezy OW drama, cheating or manwhoring(thank you author!)

Ok enough I guess
Why are half these books in this series just day to day life?? It gets kinda boring to go from weeks to months just doing regular stuff man
I already felt iffy about Isaiah from book 1 because he fell in love with the woman his brother had a ONS with. She was pregnant with his brother's baby and even though we learnt that he didn't have sex with her I felt he was weak and disrespectful because he hid it from his brother. Then he had a few beers and got in an accident killing her and his brother's child, yeah I wasn't a fan of him. Then he carried his weak spine across to this book trying his best to be a martyr because of COURSE he felt he didn't deserve the h and had to go on and on and on about his guilt and ex con status.....jeeze dude give it a rest!
The h was ok
I felt they didn't try hard enough to find the murderer, I mean the h was doing her research, the men were doing whatever but nobody communicated with each other so the book dragged on until FINALLY they realized that all heads together were better than one
I felt the solving and resolution of the murder was anticlimactic, for me when guys are mc(former or not)I expect things to be resolved in a hail of gunfire and vengeance.....not this eye for an eye so one guy quietly dies and that's it?? Nah I needed RIVERS OF BLOOD ala Tack!

I'm already not a fan of the next h because sis stayed with a man who OBVIOUSLY didn't care about her for forever and ONLY when he committed the ULTIMATE humiliation did she have enough??? Y'all women need to respect your damn vaginas and throw it on MEN who ACTUALLY deserve it dammit! Still gonna read the book though 😁😂😜

No cheating
Both celibate a while (H for years)
H spent a few years in prison for manslaughter
No OM/OW drama
Some mc drama

Holy heck! This book kept me on my toes from beginning to end!

I met Genevieve and Isaiah in book one and was immediately pulled into whatever mystery surrounded their relationship so I was extremely excited to get my hands on their story. And wow! This book absolutely blew me away. From the beginning this has a weightier feel to it. There is a lot going on in both Genevieve’s and Isaiah’s lives and while they’re dealing with all the drama around them as well as their circle of friends, they struggle with their own inner demons as well as their burgeoning emotions towards one another.

This doesn’t have a lot of action but the emotional side of the story kept me turning pages as quickly as I could. And when there was action, I was left stunned and staggering. It’s safe to say this is one of the best romantic suspense books I’ve read in a long time. Mostly because the suspense isn’t just about the bad guy, but it encircles these characters to such a degree that the further into the story I went, the more the tension built.

The romance between Genevieve and Isaiah was absolutely perfect. There is no insta, over the top reactions between them and their relationship develops in a manner that is completely believable. My heart hurt for Isaiah and the burden he carried on his shoulders. His first thought was always about protecting V and that is the very definition of an alpha hero for me. Genevieve is heartsick from the loss of her mother but when she needs to take action, she doesn’t hesitate, even if she is shaking in her boots. She was a true heroine with grit and determination and I loved her for who she was and what she brought into Isaiah’s life.

This has a wonderful pace to it and the evolving plotline kept me engaged the entire time. Secondary characters added a deeper dimension to the story as well as helping to push the story along and I’m so antsy to get my hands on their stories. Genevieve and Isaiah will definitely be going on my favorite hero/heroine list!

P.D. : Los epilogos extras aunque breves, fueron hermosos. 😍

“What are we going to do? People need to think that we’re in love, but I don’t have a clue how we’re going to convince anyone when we just met last week.”

Devney Perry continues to impress with the wild, often painful thrills present in every single book she writes, and her latest heart-pounding adventure is no exception. Following closely on the heels of Gypsy King, we finally discover what happened to Genevieve and Isaiah up in that mysterious cabin in the mountains, thus binding their fates forever. It’s the story of a young woman trying to uncover decades-old secrets that led to her mother’s violent death, all the while falling in love with a man who thinks himself unworthy of love. The twists and turns are aplenty, keeping us guessing until the very last page, but it is the simmering, slow-burning romance between the leads that takes centre stage from the start. A must read for anyone looking for a terrific page-turner that is both an intricate, layered story and a lovely romance with two very likeable people at its heart.

Number 2 in Clifton Forge series. This is the story of Isaiah and Genevieve. Fake marriage trope which usually doesn't interest me but this one was intriguing. Also a slow burn romance.
Isaiah was kind of dull and sad until you find out why. No wonder he didn't think he deserved love.
In the first novel there's an unsolved murder of Genevieves mother. This story revolves around that and more. Lots of characters but told in two pov.
If you like MC stories this is a great series.
Definitely reading the rest.

With Riven Knight, Devney Perry elevates the Tin Gypsy series to hit its stride. Lingering questions were answered. Edge of my seat suspense was delivered. And an emotional, sexy, slow burn romance satisfied on every level.

Honestly, the transformation of Isaiah over the course of this story was nothing short of spectacular. He was this beautifully broken hero - and watching him come back to life, to basically blossom with Genevieve, was such a marvelous thing to witness. I adored him so fiercely. And I loved his relationship with Genevieve - who was the perfect strong, patient, steadfast match for him. I loved how they took turns holding each other up. I loved how sweetly their feelings for each other seemed to dawn on them. This love story was just perfect!

On top of that, I was held spellbound by the suspense. As the mystery began to unravel - I sat captivated, pulse pounding, while the puzzle pieces fell into place. I loved every twist and turn, and how this unlikely band of characters became family as they worked together.

And y'all - this is only book two. I think there is so much more in store for these characters -- and a morsel of that was dangled in front of us with the ending of this book. I am here for it. All of it. This series is just ramping up and I cannot wait to see what comes next! ~ Shelly, 5 Stars

Fasten your seatbelt because you’re in for quite the wild ride with Riven Knight. You’re going to need to be safely secured with all the twists and turns this unputdownable story takes at high speeds! Holy hell, Riven Knight is only book two in this fantastic Tin Gypsy series and I cannot wait for more!

Isaiah had my attention from book one. His mysterious past kept me intrigued—and the snippet of his appearance with Genevieve only furthered my curiosity. And damn if that curiosity wasn’t rewarded.

So many questions were answered in this fast-paced, action packed story. Questions about Genevieve, Isaiah, Dash, Draven, Leo and more. I truly couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to read what happened next.

Between the romance that blossomed between Isaiah and Genevieve, the breadcrumbs that led to the answers to the true killer from the murder in Tin Gypsy, to the love and devotion of family—blood and chosen—I was spellbound. And riveted. And quite honestly shocked when I came to the end.

An end I didn’t foresee. Nor did the story foretell. And I cannot wait for more in this series. ~ Missy, 5 stars

wow. wow. wow. This was such a great conclusion to the murder mystery from book 1. Genevieve & Isaiah both committed to a marriage of convenience to avoid any questions that arose from the end of book 1. This is a SLOW BURN…but their relationship really focused on trust, letting go of the past and building a friendship.

I really loved how this wrapped up…it was beautiful but heartbreaking at the same time. 😭❤️

“If my heart left her breathless, then hers gave me a reason to breathe.”

Devney Perry delivers yet again with a dramatic, suspenseful and beautifully emotional story featuring a broken hero, a marriage of convenience, and a slow-burning romance that will melt your heart. Isaiah and Genevieve’s story is heartbreaking and sweet, and so, so gorgeous. I loved it!

The second book in the Tin Gypsy series, this book takes us back to the small town of Clifton Forge, and picks up after the events of Gypsy King. I wouldn’t recommend reading this one as a standalone, and I don’t want to spoil anything from the first book so I’ll be keeping my review vague.

Isaiah and Genevieve met under intense circumstances during the climactic events of Gypsy King. Something happened between them in a cabin in the woods, and this book begins with Genevieve having moved into Isaiah’s apartment in Clifton Forge and the two of them getting married (for reasons which are revealed throughout the book).

It's all kinds of awkward given that they barely know each other, and though they both accept their situation, they are strangers who don’t really know how to relate to each other. There is attraction there, but Genevieve’s life has literally just been turned upside down, and Isaiah has been through hell in his past and doesn’t feel worthy of anything good in his life. And they entered into the marriage knowing it would only be a temporary arrangement, so they're just doing what they need to do in the meantime. It’s a heartbreaking setup, but it provides the building blocks for an amazing story as two broken people find themselves in a unique and life-changing situation, forced to lean on each other for the support they both crave.

Isaiah looked in the mirror and saw everlasting broken pieces, but maybe my broken pieces would fit with his. Together, maybe we’d make a whole.

In a delicious twist that had me all kinds of excited, Isaiah is the brother of Kaine, from Tragic (book #3 of the Lark Cove series). Tragic is probably my favourite Perry book, so seeing that tie-in and getting to revisit parts of that story was an unexpected bonus. If you’re familiar with that book then you’ll know some of the issues that Isaiah is dealing with, and I could absolutely understand his heartache and his need to protect Genevieve and try to keep his distance.

It was unbearable to be around her, knowing she’d eventually leave. It was exhausting to keep her at arm’s length when all I wanted to do was hold her close.

And though Genevieve is dealing with her own hell, her strength and bravery astounded me. Again, I could feel what she was going through and my heart broke for her, but I loved how she followed her heart, being there for Isaiah, allowing him to be there for her, and pushing him when he needed it. She’s the strong driving force that propels their relationship forward, and I loved watching it slowly and tentatively develop.

“Isaiah, you’re the sexiest, most handsome man I’ve seen in my life. And your heart? When you let me in, you literally steal my breath away.”

Their love story unfolds amidst a sea of drama. Continuing the storyline from the first book, there is a murder-mystery to be solved, secrets, lies and betrayal, danger on their doorstep just waiting to pounce, and a whole lot of family drama. It’s all woven together beautifully to create a read that kept me captivated, with surprises, twists and turns, a few tears, and, of course, that slow-burning romance that just build beautifully throughout the book.

If my heart left her breathless, then hers gave me a reason to breathe.

Oh swoon!

Perry brought all the feels with this book, and I loved the journey. There is closure for the main suspense storyline, but threads are there for Presley’s book up next, and I am so freaking excited to see what is coming for her. I loved the tie-in to the Lark Cove series, with some fantastic character crossover, and make sure you get the bonus epilogue at the end… it’s beautiful and provides a truly satisfying finish to the story.

I loved this one!

Beautifully written masterpiece. A wisp of longing, friendships, suspense and small town charm.

Every glance, touch and thought, you could feel the love Isaiah and Genevieve had for each other. So glad the mystery was finally solved! Devney Perry can do no wrong in my eyes.

I definitely suggest reading Tragic - Lark Cove #2 before, so you understand more about Isaiah’s past. It wasn’t so easy for those he hurt to recover. I read it after and I wish I hadn’t.

tropes: marriage of convenience, misunderstood mc, close proximity, and slow burn

tw: mention of rape, kidnapping and murder

Riven Knight, book 2 in Devney Perry's Tin Gypsy series was such an emotionally charged book from start to finish! If you thought Gypsy King was suspenseful, then you must read this one.

Riven Knight picks up right where Gypsy King left off and we finally discover what really happened on the mountain.

Genevieve Daylee is thrusted into the chaotic world of the former Tin Gypsies MC. She feels lonely and betrayed by her own mother. Marrying Isaiah is not only his saving grace but hers as well. As the story progresses, Genevieve learns to love Clifton Forge and soon she shows just how much of her father's daughter she truly is as she's willing to fight for her new family no matter the cost.

"Isaiah wasn’t mine to keep forever. Eventually he’d move on to find someone who made him truly happy. The selfish part of me loathed the idea of a different, future Mrs. Reynolds who’d get more than subtle grins."

Isaiah Reynolds is a broken, tortured man that battles many demons from his past. It was so heartbreaking watching him struggle to not give himself a chance at love and happiness. Underneath all the loss and pain lays such a beautiful and enigmatic man.

"Ever since Genevieve Daylee had entered my life, the order and simplicity I craved and found had vanished."

Genevieve and Isaiah were two broken pieces of a puzzle that fit. It was such a beautiful relationship to watch transform. A slow burn romance that required a lot of patience and strength. When Isaiah tried to pull away Genevieve would stand her ground and push back. What began as a lie slowly turned into love.

"Isaiah looked in the mirror and saw everlasting broken pieces, but maybe my broken pieces would fit with his. Together, maybe we’d make a whole."

Overall, what a freakin' ride, you guys and we're only in book 2!! There's so many thrills and layers to be peeled back with these wonderful and amazing characters and I'm 1000% ready to enjoy it all!!

Riven Knight was so fantastic! Page after page I fell even more in love with Genevieve and Isiah. I loved the slow burn to their relationship and all the feelings and emotions the story brought out in me. I was hooked on the suspense element and was on the edge of my seat the entire time. It was exciting to read and I loved every second!

Genevieve and Isiah were such amazing characters. They are in this very unique situation with a marriage of convenience and I loved how they navigate it all as they learn about one another and feelings grow, and trust and bonds are formed. There was great character development and an excellent build as everything played out. It was emotional and intense, but it also had fun, playful moments that had me smiling.

The writing was wonderful. There were detailed descriptions that pulled me in and excellent dialogue between the characters. Not only is there an engaging romance developing, but there are also other relationships in play that had me completely invested. I loved that tension as new relationships are formed with family and friends. I really enjoyed how the overall storyline continued from Gypsy King. I had a million questions and they were all answered. The suspense element was awesome, I loved that tension and anticipation as something new was discovered and I was guessing right up until the end. There were so many great moments, emotional, intense, and heart-stopping, I was caught up in it all!

I thought this was truly incredible from beginning to end. I hung on every word and detail because I was so excited about what would happen next. Perfecting ending with a nice epilogue, giving some fun updates and perfectly setting up the next story, Stone Princess. I can't wait!

Romantic Suspense | Ex Con | Fake Relationship

Devney Perry delivers in yet another romantic suspense novel about family, revenge, and fighting for the truth. This book is precisely layered, breathtakingly romantic, and absolutely GRIPPING! I’m THRILLED with the shocking twist at the end AND at the epilogue which sets us up for the next book. Devney writes amazing romances and I fell hard and fast for her small-town love stories. I didn’t know how her darker novels would fare in comparison to her sweeter novels, but I know now. They are JUST AS GOOD. I am loving the suspenseful aspects of these books and her characters are achingly beautiful. This book shouldn’t be missed! I will recommend reading Gypsy King prior to this one if you haven’t though. Otherwise you may not fully understand the characters and what happened to them.

That being said, I have to admit, the first book FELT like it ended on a cliffhanger (even though it DIDN’T in a romantic sense) because there were so many unanswered questions. It left me feeling a little defeated because I love everything wrapped up in a nice little bow. However, after reading this novel I have to say I am GLAD she left questions unanswered because all my questions from the previous book slowly reveal here with a SHOCKING, AND TWISTED ENDING. How they revealed themselves also felt very authentic. Why? Because this book is truly about FAMILY and fighting for the truth. Without the added bonus of Genevieve and Isaiah’s relationship in the mix it would have felt stunted. So really, it all makes sense and feels RIGHT! Bravo, Devney!

If you’re looking for you’re next 5 star read LOOK NO FURTHER. Devney Perry has it RIGHT HERE. I love her stories and how she weaves her romances through them, and I know MANY readers feel the exact same way! I highly recommend this one!

„Do you think, someday, the past will stop defining who you are?”

What happens when one of your favorite authors writes a book with one of your favorite tropes? You raise your fists into the air and shout 'Hell yes!'. I’m completely addicted to this series, especially after Riven Knight. This book sucked me in from the very first page. I was obsessed with Isaiah already in Gypsy King and considering the events that took place there, I was looking forward to his own book. And Devney did not disappoint, because she gave me a heartbreakingly beautiful and suspenseful story about healing and coming to terms with the past.

Isaiah is the type of hero I consider my Achilles heel. Extremely enigmatic, tortured, complicated and silent. He’s also very protective and selfless. His brooding persona made me want to peel his layers and see what's underneath. The heartbreaking events from his past made him live every day with an unimaginable sense of guilt and made him withdrawn. But as soon as he put his walls down, he became the most loveable guy ever.

Genevieve is a fighter. Pulled into the chaos that disrupted her life and undermined evrything she knew about her own family, she was determined to get answers. She’s brave and strong. Thrown into fake marriage to protect the person who saved her life she has proved to be caring and upstanding.

The circumstances in which they were bonded were far from favorable. However, when two lonely people with the same goal have to pretend to be in love, everything can happen. Especially when these two share a common secret and mutual protectioniveness. Isaiah and Genevieve’s love story is a heartwarming and delicious slow-burn. Their journey to happy ending is not easy, it’s overshadowed by ghosts from the past and unsolved murder, but it’s beautiful nonetheless. I had tears in my eyes when they both let their guards down.

Devney mixed suspenseful and thrilling story with a heartbreakingly beautiful romance. Riven Knight is very emotional and poignant. It gave me all the feels in the world and I didn’t want it to end. I got the answers I was seeking, but it also made me hungry for more. I can’t wait for the Stone Princess!

At the end of Gypsy King I was left wondering what happened to Draven’s court case. Not only is the closure to that storyline in this book but we focus on Isaiah and Genevieve’s surprise coupling that also happened out of nowhere at the end of the first book.

If you have read the first story then you may remember that Genevieve finds out that she is related to the Slater family, forever tying her to Clifton Forge. After burying her mother there she then gets kidnapped, rescued and then marries the guy who rescues her - on her birthday. Busy week…

Isaiah is an ex-con who got a leg up from Draven when he needed a job and somewhere to live. He wasn’t in town long before he got caught up in helping rescue Bryce and Genevieve from some bad dudes. Something else went down that night that is alluded to as being the reason he and Genevieve decided to tie the knot.

This marriage comes as a shock to their small circle of friends and they have to work hard to make it look like they are in love in front of them. Over the months that follow something is simmering away between these two and it is a slow burning string that eventually ignites. I loved the building anticipation of what could happen if they could be honest about the feelings growing between them and let me tell you the wait was worth it.

Getting married before you know someone is a bit backwards and then living with them 24/7 added an extra layer to the situation. What I loved about this couple is that they had been through something pretty serious that only they knew the truth about and this seemed to really bond them - in more ways than one.

As Draven’s court case draws near everyone is focused on finding out the truth about what happened to Genevieve’s mother and who is hell bent on framing him. Things take a dramatic turn in this part of the story and it does not end in the way I expected it to.

The scene is now set for Presley's story and I am looking forward to more from this series :)
