Medicine Man (Heartstone Series Book 1) Kindle Edition
Willow Taylor lives in a castle with large walls and iron fences. But this is no ordinary castle. It’s called Heartstone Psychiatric Hospital and it houses forty other patients. It has nurses with mean faces and techs with permanent frowns.
It has a man, as well. A man who is cold and distant. Whose voice drips with authority. And whose piercing gray eyes hide secrets, and maybe linger on her face a second too long.
Willow isn’t supposed to look deep into those eyes. She isn’t supposed to try to read his tightly-leashed emotions. Neither is she supposed to touch herself at night, imagining his powerful voice and that cold but beautiful face.
No, Willow Taylor shouldn’t be attracted to Simon Blackwood at all.
Because she’s a patient and he’s her doctor. Her psychiatrist.
The medicine man.

I am new to this author, but after this book I need to read more of hers. This book was so, so good. It was heartbreaking but hopeful, sweet but so spicy, and the passion and intensity was off the charts. It had me hooked the whole way through. Being a forbidden, age-gap romance between a psychiatrist and patient it could be easily be made into a story that just isn't 'right', but the author makes it something that develops so naturally and with so much heart that it gets you in all the feels. This is now one of my favourite books of all time and will definitely read again!

I really enjoy Saffron's heroes although the heroines are a little touch too obsessive for my taste (hence the four stars).
Love the angst, the story, the grovel. Great read.

Saffron A Kent is a new author for me, and one whose work I will continue to explore. The first part of this story really captured me, Kent has a way of really working her words 'right'. However, the middle of the story was all about sex. Now sex is fine, but to me it was overdone - the middle of the story is saturated with it.
Yes, this is about a forbidden romance, and so many professional lines were crossed - but it is fiction, and it certainly portrays an interesting situation. It also portrays the reality that we are all 'broken' in different ways.
I liked the story line, I liked the writing and I would have liked to have seen more really well crafted sentences - which there are some really beautiful ones. The characters are engaging and as a reader I did find a connection with them.
Definitely worth your time in giving it a go.

As this came closer to release I was starting to have my doubts, how was Saffron going to pull this off without the whole thing sounding whacky? But she did. All these characters feel like real people. Between those that have eating disorders, straight out depression, suicidal ideation or other mental illness, they weren’t glanced or glossed over, they weren’t made fun of they were all shown in a caring manner. As for the relationship between Willow and Simon, I think she said it best when Willow said it was her heart wanting Simon not her illness. They felt a connection and they went with it. I really enjoyed this novel and I look forward to the rest of Saffron’s books.

Mental health disorders are rough, life threatening and Invisible. I loved that this wasn't a glossed over story where the hero just magicked away the ugly with sex.
There is so much dirty, sordid, questionable and taboo stuff in this story but it just adds excitement to the brutal and raw experience of this heroines mental health.
It's a heart wrenching love story that travels a dark road.
I could barely take even a small break from this.
I did find some parts dragging in the end but it was worth it.

This book is a breath stealing, tear jerking and hope giving emotional roller coaster of a read. I was completely caught up in the addictive, crazy, super hot, taboo and all consuming passion and chemistry between the Medicine Man and his silver haired Snow Princess. Bring on 2019 and DOPAMINE (Renn and Tristan's Story) and NICOTINE DREAMS (Violet & Graham's story).

As a bipolar

SPOILER ALERT
As a bipolar, it was really hard reading the stories of the mom and Claire. I wish one of them had a happy ending, but it's a great story to read, especially when you are depressed in a psych ward, thinking you'll never ever have a happy ending of your own 😂

Me encanta.

This book is a really powerful one. I find incredibly strong the way a person with clinical depression might feel; their struggles and their feelings.
For me, SAK is all about destiny and kismet. The couples are always meant to be. It seems incredible that people are so beautifully paired.
Willow and Simon have a really deep, complicated and difficult story individually and when they meet, the chemistry is off the charts and the feelings are absolutely strong. Destiny is there.
Angsty, amazing feelings, two main characters full of depth and interesting profiles, a group of incredible friends, an interesting place and an epic love story is what this book is about.

Simon Blackwood and Willow Taylor are love goals
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 January 2022Verified Purchase
Medicine Man was my first read of 2022 and wow, it has to be up there with some of my favourite read ever. This wasn't just a love story, it was so much deeper and I lived for it. This is my first Saffron A Kent book but it won't be my last.
Willow Taylor has never felt normal, even in her family she is the odd one out apart from her silver hair, the rest is uniquely her own. Her struggle with depression has always been something she kept to herself and tried to contain to avoid hurting anyone else. Unfortunately after one particularly bad day, she makes a mistake and it lands her in Heartstone Psychiatric Hospital. Her plan is to say what she needs to and get out, forget about facing what really happened. Apart from a few friends she hates being there, but all that changes when Dr Simon Blackwood steps in and turns her world upside down. She's never known happiness before, not until him and now she spends her days trying to get to know him and her nights dreaming about his touch.
Simon never thought he would walk the halls of Heartstone again, since losing his mother and resenting his father he never wanted to come back to the place that took up all his dad's time. Feeling like a failure isn't what he planned, he's strived to be the best Dr there is and to help everyone he treats. When he first meets Willow in her bunny slippers clutching a Harry Potter book, he saw strength and sadness in her eyes. What he also saw was beauty and a undeniable attraction, something he has no business in feeling. She is his patient, he's her doctor so imaginging what her lips taste like aren't thoughts he should have. What does he do when he's starting to feel more for the girl he wants to help fight for a better life. Things will get messy but sometimes the best love stories start in the strangest of ways.
Simon and Willow were incredible characters, I loved them so much. Both dealing with their own demons but continuing to fight on was so admirable. Their desire to help one another bled through the pages too and I ate it up. If any couple deserved their HEA, it was them. I encourage everyone to give this book a try, it was everything and more ❤.
