It was a three-week fling. Nothing more than a couple of college kids having some fun, but then I did the stupid thing and fell for Jude Taylor quicker than he can score a goal on the ice. And after one beautiful night together, he left for the pros before I could make my first cup of coffee.

I thought I’d put him behind me. I thought I’d moved on. Then he hobbles into my physical therapy office and I realize how absolutely wrong I’ve been—there’s no getting over Jude Taylor.

But now things are complicated. Jude lives half a country away and his career is in direct opposition to my need for stability. Most of all, getting involved with him could mean losing my job and everything I’ve worked so hard for.

Jude doesn’t seem to mind one bit and he’s all in. He might be a patient in my office, but he’s no longer the patient guy I remember.

This time, he’s playing to win, and the prize he’s looking to score is me.

Can I just say I love hockey romance stories? Because I do. So much.
This one was a bit different since Jude is currently injured and obviously not playing right now. Bummer. I love some good hockey scenes.
His coach and his brother/teammate sent him home to Chicago to heal.
But then he sees her again.
The one who got away.
Katie.
Can these two get together again???
Is it a forbidden romance???
Hmmm... guess you’ll have to read this one to find out.

I thought this book was well thought out and well written.
I greatly enjoyed it! I think you will enjoy it as well. One click now!

Very easy and safe sports romance read with likeable characters. It was well written and had a good pace, yet I wasn’t thrilled. It was lethargic, no angst, no twists.
It is a nice read if you want to unwind and take a break.

Playing to Win by Stacey Lynn
“Second chance, 4 stars”

Kate and Jude have a past. He worked hard once upon a time to get her. Then thanks to a good ol’ misunderstanding they go their separate ways. Now after a chance run in, he wants answers but more than that he wants a second chance. His life is up in the air and Kate is all about stability. Will he be able to convince her to give him another shot?
I adore a good second chance romance. Jude and Kate just worked together. If you love a good hockey romance there isn’t a lot of hockey in this one but enough to tied you over. The secondary characters were fun as well. I think if you give it a chance you will like Playing to Win.

* * * 1/2 Spoiler Free-A Quick Review
If we all could have a dollar for all the miscommunications we have had with others, we all be doing very well financially. Too many times, especially when we are young adults in high school and college, mistakes are made between young couples due to rushed comments or no comments at all after serious actions.

The actions can be sexual or emotional...the results are the same. Both parties misunderstand what the other was thinking, having whatever They think happened to take on something bigger and life-changing.

In Playing to Win (Ice Kings #1)
we are given a couple who had that happen and each has their own idea of the event.

The good news is Ms. Lynn did not draw out the angst and allowed the couple to work things out. The conflict was more about employment and the new relationship building. Yay!

This is the beginning of a new series and with the talents of our author, giving us a slid story, sexy times, and HEA's, it should hit the mark.

Oh, this was fun! It should come as no surprise to anyone that follows my reviews that I like a good hockey romance. Stacey Lynn was a new author to me but I was willing to take a chance on this first installment in the Ice Kings series. I was not disappointed. I was hooked by this story from the very start and couldn't wait to see how everything worked out.

Jude and Kate were both wonderful characters. I am a fan of second chance romances so I was thrilled by the fact that these two have a history. The chemistry between them was amazing and I really felt their connection from the start. They do each have some things to deal with and it was fun to take the journey with them.

I thought that Liam DiCosmio and Stella Hunter did a great job with the narration. I really enjoy books that use a different point of view for each character because I feel like it really helps to bring the story to life. I found this to be a very easy listen and both narrators had a very pleasant voice. I wouldn't hesitate to listen to either of these narrators again in the future.

I would recommend this book to fans of sports romance. There isn't a whole lot of hockey in this book but Jude is pretty focused on doing what needs to be done to get back into the game. I found this to be a wonderful romance featuring characters that were easy to fall for.

I received a digital audiobook review copy of this book from Spectrum Audiobooks via NetGalley.

Initial Thoughts
This was just what I was looking for! I have been having such a hard time concentrating and decided that I needed a lighter fun listen to get me back on track. I was also really curious about how audiobooks from NetGalley worked and thought that this book would be the perfect one to try out the new app. I love second chance romance and hockey romances are a favorite so this book was a win for me in more than one way. Jude and Kate were fantastic characters and I thought that their chemistry together was amazing. I think that the narrators did a good job with the story even though I wasn't a huge fan of the voices the male narrator used for the female characters.

4/5 ✰ — playing with fire & playing to win review (0.5&1)

- thank you stacey lynn for sending me this series!!!

i haven’t read sports romances in a while, so when i saw these, i thought it was the perfect time to get back into them! & i’m so happy i did. this book, was fast paced, short & filled with tropes i love; like second chance & boy obsessed !! AND THERE’S NO ACT THREE BREAK UP YALL.

off the bat, i loved jude. he was so into katie & was so set on winning her over !! i do wish we go to see more of his healing process & how damaging an injury can be, mentally, to an athlete. but come on. boy falls first? AND HARDER ?????? jude taylor, be mine <3

as for katie, while i did think she jumped to conclusions when it came to her part in the “separation”, i appreciated her explaining her point of view when the situation was addressed. i also would have liked a bit more development on her part, but i really resonated with her fear of change.

as a whole, stacey lynn’s writing was extremely enjoyable & i can’t wait to read more!! while the plot was really similar to other second chance romances, i was SUPER excited to see the athlete x physical therapist trope ??? this book will pull you in just enough to leave you wanting more!

Quietly emotional, sweetly sexy and fun story.

Playing to Win is the first book in the ‘Ice Kings’ series by Stacey Lynn. It’s a hockey romance if you haven’t guessed from the title, lol. This is Jude Taylor and Katie Carter’s story. Jude and Katie knew each other in college, they had one hot night together- then the next morning, he was gone.
Now, five years later, Jude is a right winger for the Carolina Ice Kings and has been seriously injured during a recent game. He’s sent to his hometown to recuperate and realizes he’s going to be doing his rehab at the place where Katie is a physical therapist.
It’s obvious from their first renewed interactions that there are feelings churning below the surface for both of them. Jude never forgot the girl he’d lost his heart to, and now that he’s found her again, he’s not willing to let go without a fight.
Katie knew Jude had stolen her heart in college, they’d only been together that one night, but it was a game-changer for her. She’s scared of what will happen to her if she lets her feelings have their way, but, she’s scared to blow Jude off as well.
Time is what’s needed and thankfully, with Jude on the injured list, it’s something they have in abundance. Their chemistry is undeniable, but watching their emotional bond grow was a treat too.
Some might say Katie gave in too easily, but Jude did an excellent job of explaining himself, and she was partly to blame as she cut off all contact with him the way she did. A lot of misunderstandings could have been saved had she not done so.
Jude is gorgeous, built and determined to win. He’s sweet and kind, and although he’d like to be the one in control, it’s Katie who holds the reins in their relationship, at least in the beginning. I loved reading this new series and I’m looking forward to book two, ‘Scoring Off The Ice’.
One-Click this icy gem today and enjoy!

Playing to Win is a pretty short, cute & sexy romance between a hockey player who got injured and his ex-girlfriend/ ex-hookup who happen to work where he's going to have physical therapy for his knee. Five years ago they fell for each other, hooked up and said goodbye without telling each other how they felt. Miscommunication happened and five years later, they still remember each other. When they meet again, sparks fly and when he gets her back, he doesn't want to leave her again. She's going to have to take a risk for him, a risk she didn't take before. There was a little bit of drama at her work since she's not allowed to have a relationship with a client or whatever but in the end, they figured it out. There's not a lot to tell since it wasn't very long and the plot wasn't complex but the audiobook grabbed my attention and I wasn't bored. Now that I'm done with the first book of the series, I can't wait to dive into the second one since I don't know yet who the new couple is going to be!

Nothing could have prepared Kate for the moment he wandered back into her life, the rush of feelings his presence brings, the hurt in her heart, or the weak feeling in her knees. Jude Taylor was and is the only man to every make her feel this way, their fling back in college lit something within her that hasn't dimmed in all the years since. If it's even possible he is more gorgeous now then he was back then, and definitely more dangerous for her heart too!

Her head keeps telling her not to get attached again, but her body is saying something else entirely. She knows his stay in Chicago is temporary, and getting sucked back into his world just isn't an option. She has to stay strong, and keep him at a distance... easier said then done when the man your're trying to avoid shows at your workplace everyday with temptation written all over him!

From the very first page Playing to Win had me completely addicted, the words took hold and I couldn't escape. The emotion instantly rising to the surface, their chemistry stirring up heat, and their undeniable connection told me I was about to witness something truly special... and boy was I ever right! This second chance romance had all the feels, sexiness, and emotion I crave in a read and then some, it was outstanding on all fronts. I adored Kate and Jude, I loved watching them "fall" all over again, and find their way back to one another, it was such a beautiful story. I highly recommend you get your hands on this one, what you find between the pages is destined to warm your heart, and curl your toes!

I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.

the book: 5/10
as a smutty book: 8/10

Katie still remembers Jude from her three week college fling. After so many years, she still can't forget him and still watches his NHL games. She remembers running away and blocking Jude from her life. A chance meeting will reunite them, but will Katie repeat her mistakes or choose to love the one that got away,

The story begins with a chance meet where Jude a professional hockey player comes in her physiotherapist office. The sparks fly and it seems like the past 5 years have been nothing. I love the situation they get themselves into where they secretly explore their chemistry and reignite their pasts. This book is STEAMY. Packed full of romance and even more sexy scenes. The scenes are written so well that the passion flies of the page. I picked up wanting just that and the book delivery in that category.

I would have loved to hear more about Jude and Katie romance in college. The author establishes this as a second chance love but it didn't really feel like one because we didn't get much context. Thus the love story did feel a tab bit instant love. I also felt that the conflicts had little consequence but this book really is more for the romance.

Overall I did enjoy this quick read. I recommend this for lovers of romance who want to itch their smut love. Its light and happy, with little conflict.

Thank you to Netgalley and the author for providing an ARC to review this book. All of my opinions are honest.

Can he be everything she craves?

In the first book in the Ice Kings series we meet hockey stud Jude Taylor who’s on the injured and mad at the world list especially at the jerk who body checked him causing a concussion and a torn ACL. When his couch send him back to his home town to rehab he’s worried he won’t get signed for another 5 years if he doesn’t heal properly. Then he gets lucky and is rehabbing were the girl who got away is a physical therapist. She has the answers he needs and he intends to find out why she ghosted him 5 years ago.

I really enjoyed this book and it kept me engrossed throughout. I really loved the characters and the way they interacted with each other. This is a fun, hot, romantic must read book and I would definitely recommend this book to anyone.

Authors Blurb: It was a three-week fling.

Then he hobbles into my physical therapy office and I realize how absolutely wrong I’ve been there’s no getting over Jude Taylor.

This book has everything I love in a book. Then you add that it's beautifully written and believable. It is easily a five star read. Written in dual POV my personal favorite this story flows so incredibly well that the next thing you know your 80% into the book and loving every second of it. The believable way the characters interact is perfect. Run, Hop, Jump or use your (1 click) finger to do whatever you have to do and get this amazing book. It'll break your heart, you'll want to scream with frustration and it'll let you discover that love just might conquer all. The chemistry is steamy and sweet and oh so romantic.

4.5 Star Review Playing To Win (Ice Kings #1) by Stacey Lynn

Stacey Lynn is a relatively new author to me. This is a second chance at love story which I quickly became invested in. and from what I read, I am excited to read more in this series.

Years ago, Jude Taylor left Katie after a miss-understanding to pursue a professional hockey career. When injury sidelines him, he returns home to recover. He is shocked when he finds Katie at the physical therapy office. Could this be fate’s way of offering them a second chance?

Katie had convinced herself that she had gotten over Jude, until he reappears in her life.
From the start Jude appears to be all in, pursuing Katie and I loved that part of him. Will Katie be prepared to put her heart and possibly her job on the line for a man who once left her devastated?

I loved the dynamic between Jude and Katie. I also enjoyed the fact that they confronted their past, communicated and came to terms with it, moving on. The secondary characters also added an extra layer to the story.

The chemistry sizzled between them and although not a particularly long read Ms. Lynn packed a lot in to this entertaining story. There was heat, humour and very little drama which only added to my enjoyment.

Full review on my blog!

I don’t normally go for sports romances… or audiobooks, but I love hockey, so I gave this one a chance! I’m really, REALLY glad I saw this on NetGalley.

Playing to Win is the first book in the Ice Kings series by Stacey Lynn. It’s a steamy hockey romance featuring Jude Taylor and Katie Carter. Jude and Katie knew each other in college, they had one hot night together- then the next morning, he was gone. And now, five years later, Jude is a right winger for the Carolina Ice Kings and has been seriously injured during a recent game. He’s sent to his hometown to recuperate and realizes he’s going to be doing his rehab at the place where Katie is a physical therapist.

Their chemistry is still evident and it’s clear that they both have strong feelings for each other. Jude is determined not to let her slip away again and is willing to fight for their relationship. Katie, on the other hand, is scared of being hurt and is hesitant to give in to her feelings. As they spend more time together, they both realize that they want to be together and their emotional bond grows stronger.

Although some might say that Katie gives in too easily, Jude does an excellent job of explaining himself and she takes some responsibility for cutting off all contact with him. Despite Jude’s good looks, charm, and determination, it’s Katie who initially holds the reins in their relationship. Their journey is a treat to read and watching their emotional bond grow is heartwarming.

A second-chance love story with fun characters and an exciting storyline. If you’re a fan of hockey/sports romances or just looking for a new series to dive into. Kate and Jude’s journey to finding their way back to each other was beautiful, and I highly recommend it!

Yes, Jude Taylor was definitely playing to win and Kate didn’t stand a chance. Stacy Lynn wrote a fun story about love found, love lost and then having to work to get it back again.

Jude had his work cut out for him and not only in Rehab. Yes, he’s back home in Chicago and not by his choice. He doesn’t want to be here. It only reminds him of the girl he lost. His Katie. Now, he has his mother hovering over him, old friends trying to get in touch with him. Rehab. There is only only thing good about Rehab. Yes, it will get him back to the game he loves but, guess who is a physical therapist there? Yep, you guessed it.

Katie … yea, nobody calls her Katie except one person. And, now she hears it right behind her. Now, what does she do? Turn around, run, smile, look shocked? Just be her normal, professional self and remember that she fell in love with him, he didn’t fall in love with her. But, why is he all smiles, asking for her number, trying to get her to go to dinner? She needs and wants stable and he’s still Jude, the professional hockey player. She has to close the door on Jude .. her heart and her job depend on it. But, when he starts being the man she fell in love with, there’s no hardening her heart or her libido and is definitely having second thoughts about her job.

Playing to Win moved rather quickly. Things heated up just as quick. That made it a little unbelievable for me. They went from talking things out to the bedroom rather quick. But, they were fun together. They had a past and reminiscing and looking back was entertaining. Jude’s parents were a hoot. They were boisterous and comical. They made you wish you had such fun-loving parents as they were. Then there was Whiskers … what a wonderful addition to this light-hearted fun story.

Stacy Lynn really wrote a fun story. A second-chance love story with fun characters and an interesting story line. I’m looking forward to meeting more of the Ice Kings. Hopefully they will be as fascinating as Jude was.

Sometimes I just want to read a good low angst, sexy book with characters I can root for - and this definitely satisfied that craving. It's light, quick, and a lot less emotional than most second chance romances. In fact, the only thing that bumps this down to 4 stars for me is just how easily these two work out an issue that separated them for 5 years. Had there been a little more tension, a little more depth, I would've given this 5 stars without thinking twice.

The story follows Jude, a pro hockey player whose career is sidelined by an injury. Forced to lay low and do some rehab, Jude returns home and runs into the girl who got away. Back in college, Katie caught Jude's eye and he spent weeks pursuing her, only to get called up to the majors the day after they finally got together. A misunderstanding broke them apart, but now that they're going to be seeing each other on a regular basis, Jude sees this as his second chance to get his girl.

After reading the blurb, I expected this to go a little differently, but I'm actually pleased with the direction it took. These two didn't have some sexy fling back in college; it just took weeks for Katie to give him a chance. While there's plenty of heat once these two get back together (and so much chemistry), the emotional connection is the focus here. I loved Jude from the start - he has absolutely no hesitation once he sees Katie again. He's all in right away, and that was so refreshing to read. It's not often that I want my romance novels to be longer, but this could've benefited from a little more length and a slower build to give it a less insta-love feel. I'm of the opinion that if a simple conversation could've prevented 5 years of separation then that's a problem in and of itself, but I did like that this wasn't overwrought with angst. All in all, it's a solid start to a new series and I'm looking forward to seeing what's next. I received an ARC via Social Butterfly PR and am voluntarily leaving a review of this sexy/sweet second chance romance.

A wonderful start to the series!

What does it mean when you have a three-week fling with someone in college and still can't get them out of your thoughts years later? What happens when that someone walks into the place you work and the sparks are still there and they aren't one sided? Well, I'll tell you, it makes for one hell of a spicy second-chance romance!

Playing to win WON my heart. I was hooked from the opening scene and felt for Katie. I was rooting for the second chance right away.

The chemistry is off the charts between Jude and Katie! I found myself rooting for both of them. The connection wasn’t easy as Katie made Jude work for it.

The whole combo of Jude being injured added to the whole dynamic of the book.

Stacey Lynn knocked this sweet and sexy book out of the park!

Katie and Jude have a history, though it was brief, it was a time in both their lives that has stayed with them. Even after five years, they are both still thinking about each other. They live in different states, that is until Jude heads back to his home state and comes face to face with the woman he still thinks about.

I love a good second chance romance and add in hockey it is the perfect combination! Katie and Jude were both fantastic characters and had some amazing chemistry from the very start. Jude may be a giant hockey player, but he is protective, caring, loving and just a giant teddy bear. Katie is a hard worker, she can hold her ground against Jude.

This was a pretty quick read for me and I enjoyed every single moment of the story and Jude and Katie’s relationship. Plus, the two friends, Lizzie and Garrett, and Jude’s entire family were great secondary characters and added to the overall story.

For fans of hockey romances and or second chance romances this a MUST READ.

Overall Grade: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Stacey Lynn’s Playing to Win is a story of second chances. It’s an admonishment to seek after love even when it’s scary and fraught with change. In a world when love seems lost at times, Stacey Lynn’s story hits the beats of our hearts that want and need love.

The story follows Jude and Katie. Jude is a professional NHL player who has become injured to the point of possible devastation to his career. In an effort to reset Jude’s mind, his manager sends him home to heal. Katie is a physical therapist who seeks after a life of stability due to a childhood of instability. As Jude begins his therapy post-surgery, he finds Katie, the girl who got away in college. Jude pursued Katie in college until one night she finally relented and they spent a night in bed. The next day, Jude was drafted into the NHL, and Katie ended any contact with him as it meant a possible life of uncertainty. Seeing Katie again sets a fire in Jude to pursue her and win her over again. His goal becomes building a life with her, even though he lives in another state. Will Katie accept Jude’s pursuit, or are these two doomed to living life separately?

There is quite a bit I liked about Lynn’s story: a hero who clearly adores the heroine and does everything to win her heart, a story that reminds us that second chances make some of the best romances, and a heroine who struggles in the beginning but quickly relents. These parts all conspire to create a story that is more about the falling into love and less about the separation of it. Quite honestly, the tension of Stacey Lynn’s story is easy. If you’re looking for a romance that will give you a little bit of strife, but mostly the sweet and steamy of it, then you should read Playing to Win.

Now, I struggled a bit with Playing to Win. There were times when I felt disconnected from its drama. As I stated above, this is a fairly easy story to read. You can get invested emotionally in it, but it tends to be a bit one-note. It never fully achieves the height of emotion that I tend to like in romance. This could come from Lynn’s crafting of Jude, her hero. He struggles with a possible end of his career (or at least, a change in it), but this resolves easily, which makes his emotional upheaval seem superfluous to the story. Instead, he should have undergone greater emotional turmoil. He acted more like a spoiled child than a hero with a major life challenge. Additionally, our heroine’s challenges with instability in life are resolved easily. This might please some readers, but it frustrated me because I wanted her to struggle a bit more over the possibility of Jude leaving. Instead, she accepts change more easily than someone who has fought for stability in her adulthood. Lastly, there are some places in the storytelling that lost its continuity. It made for moments of confusion.

However, all of that said, there is a stability to this romance that couldn’t exist if the hero, Jude, wasn’t a stalwart, caring, compassionate man. It’s his strength of character that guides the story, allowing the heroine, Katie, to fall in love with him. This is the strength of Lynn’s Playing to Win. Jude is definitely swoon-worthy and the best part of this book.

If you love a professional hockey player who is devastatingly in love with his heroine, then you’ll definitely love Stacey Lynn’s Playing to Win.

4.5 Stars for Playing to Win book 1 in the new Ice Kings Series.
If this book is anything to go by Stacey Lynn will have a hit series on her hands because Jude and Katie’s second chance romance is a great start to her new Ice Kings Series.
Katie and Jude have history, their time together may have been short but that didn’t stop it leaving a lasting impression on them both and now five years on Jude heads home to get over a bad injury and at the local physical therapy office he comes face to face with the girl who haunts his dreams, what he doesn’t realise is the feelings he still has are mutual.....
Katie was convinced Jude was in her past and she was over him until he walks in for his first physio appointment, is the timing right this time around and will Katie risk her job by crossing the line and will she take another chance on the hot sexy hockey player who haunts her dreams........
I loved everything about this and book it ticked all my boxes, I loved Jude and Katie and how they confronted their past and then moved on to their future, I loved the chemistry and the banter they shared and I loved all of the characters we got to meet in this first book, so I’m left looking forward to book 2 and wondering whose story will be next. Great start to a new series.

I don’t like the pushy hero (which I was expecting from the blurb but bothered me more than I thought it would). I also just didn’t buy the stakes — or the heroine’s sudden and unexplained about-face on whether risking her career was worth it.

Holy dayuuuuuum , what a great story full of heart and hidden pockets of goodness!!

I’m pretty sure this is my absolutely favorite book by Stacey Lynn so far! This isn’t a new story by any means, but it was refreshing because the author doesn’t drag the conflict with a bunch of push/pull that some readers (okay, maybe just me) would want to poke their eyes out before reading LOL Kate and Jude faced the past head on and navigated thru the growth of their relationship. It wasn’t always easy, and they did have ups and downs but that’s life, and that’s what made this story so exceptional for me! Adults adulting … my new favorite phrase! LoL

I’m super excited about this new series. I’ve read quite a few sports romance stories by this author but I have a feeling this one is going to be a total off the charts package every time!

first review - may 26th 2022 ⭐⭐

first of all, no.
second of all, no.
okay so this book has a prologue book and that book was short so, at first, I thought "this one was short so things were a little rushed but the second book will be better". it wasn't 🙃
the characters - katie and jude - have zero chemistry; they met in college and talked like 10 times and they were already in love but then he has to go so she blocks his number and five years later they reunite and are still in love with each other???? what??? this didn't make any sense. THEY BARELY SPOKE IN COLLEGE, HOW ARE THEY IN LOVE WITH EACH OTHER??? secondly, the miscommunication. oh my f— god. this got me so mad. after they reunited, they had a lot to talk about but they never wanted to talk about that subject so they always tried to change the conversation. I didn't like this book at all. It was a big no.
also, the smut scenes were average 🥴
(and the epilogue was so blah, like it was so boring)

I enjoyed this one. Sports romance can cause me a bit of anxiety at first only because they usually have heavy "other women" involvement due to overeager fans. I'm happy to say you do not get that in this book. In fact, I really like how much Jude was crushing on Katie, even years later after their first encounter. I felt like because of that, this was a fun romance even though they had a few obstacles to overcome.

I listened to the audiobook version of this and really enjoyed the narrators. It had both a male, and female narrator who showcased both POVs, and I love that. This gives us readers a look into both characters thoughts throughout the book. I definitely recommend this if you are looking for a fun, safe sports romance.

[Thanks Netgalley for the audiobook. This review is my honest opinion but just another opinion, you should read this book and judge it by yourself]
-----------
I've listened audiobooks before but they were some of my favourite books (The Bronze Horseman, Kiss an Angel) so I already knew the story. This has been my first time listening a story that I haven't read before (and in English, which isn't my native language), so I wasn't sure I was going to understand everything and follow the story. Happily, I was able to do both things. due to the easy story and the great narration. It's easy to listen and easy to follow. Both narrators have clear voices and pronunciations, I wasn't lost listening the story. Although they both have great voices, I found myself more comfortable with the female voice and sometimes I found the male voice a little too rough for my taste (especially when he was impersonating other secondary characters).
But the story is easy and uncomplicated, so the listening experience is pretty much the same. I think this book/audiobook is perfect for a summer reading.

Kate actually let Jude go the day after their great hook up because he got called to the pros and had to leave immediately. She blocked his calls, etc. She wasn't mad it was that she desires stability and she just didn't know him well enough. She was scared. It's hard to believe but once we understand her childhood we can maybe get it!??

Now, the reason he's back is not so much a stretch of imagination but still a bit weak. Just that fate puts him at her physical rehab clinic and they meet again after 5 years.

The rest of the story is yours. Kate is great and Jude truly is ready for her. That also is a bit insta but it's a good thing, readers!!

I love hockey and there is a little bit here. Not much.
I thought Avery was annoying but the boss was awful. Great development of characters.

I really enjoyed Playing to Win by Stacey Lynn.

The storyline is entertaining from start to end, I enjoyed getting to know all the characters and I loved watching Kate and Jude get their second chance at love.

Overall, Playing to Win is a great start to the Ice Kings series, looking forward to reading more in the near future.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an audiobook eArc of this book.

The romance in Playing to Win was sweet and uncomplicated. I enjoyed the laid back style of the writing, and the narrator was quite good. At parts in the book it felt like I was reading a Jaci Burton romance, I really enjoy her work so this is definitely a compliment. Unfortunately, this book was no for me. I DNF'd at 43%. At nearly halfway through the book, the main characters had barely kissed. I realize there are plot reasons for the MC's to not be together like that immediately. It was just too much of a slow burn for me. The MC was likeable, and so was the love interest.

My actual rating was 2.5 stars.
