And in Sweden, Imane Asry’s look is indeed the Look of the Year, and the Look of the Future. But Elle’s critics are correct: the hijab is mandated in Islam because keeping men from being tempted is solely a woman’s responsibility, and she is punished if he is tempted anyway. Elle is validating this perspective and more regarding Islam’s dehumanization and degradation of women.
“Outrage as Swedish Elle Picks Hijabi-Clad Influencer as ‘Look of the Year,'” Sputnik, January 22, 2020 (thanks to The Religion of Peace):
The winner, Imane Asry, a student of economics, suggested that the time was ripe to normalise the hijab in the fashion industry, which she called “superficial and homogeneous”.
During the Elle gala in Sweden, influencer Imane Asry, a popular hijabi blogger was picked for the “Look of the Year” award, in collaboration with L´Oréal Paris.
Asry is an influencer with over 150,000 followers on her Instagram page Fashion with Faith, who earlier described herself as “Muslim fashion-crazy girl”. She received the award from last year’s winner Linnea Henriksson.
“This prize, it is for all of us who did not see ourselves in the fashion magazines, because we did not fit in. And with that said, I want to say: We can too”, Asry commented on her victory.
“I was absolutely convinced that someone who looked like me could not win such an award. In addition, being a visible Muslim woman with an influence in fashion Sweden feels almost unreal! It makes me so happy to see such changes in an otherwise very superficial and homogeneous industry.”
Asry, a student of economics, was voted by Elle’s readers and followers. She described her style as “modest fashion” and a way of meeting spiritual and stylistic requirements.
“I think my style reaches out and inspires so many, not just Muslim women. Also, many people can identify with my work. This is a confirmation that the time is more than ripe for us to start normalising the hijab in the fashion industry. Fashion is for everyone,” Asry concluded.
However, the nomination ruffled a lot of feathers among the Swedish public, where many thought Elle was indirectly supporting the oppression of women.
Writer and columnist Ann Heberlein likened Elle to the Scripture for fashion enthusiasts around the world, which is why its stance matters.
“What is the message Elle wants to communicate by letting ‘modest fashion’ win the Look of the Year anno 2020? Well, that women should cover their bodies, take responsibility for the man’s sexuality by not tempting him, being modest and humble. Don’t take too much space, don’t be too visible, don’t provoke. I think it is a sad message to communicate to women,” Heberlein, who holds a doctorate in ethics, suggested in her opinion piece in Nyheter Idag…

Glorifying the hijab must seem strange to some of the woman in the middle east who can be killed for appearing in public without it or in the U.S.the Islamic woman or young woman who were murdered by a parent or brother or arrested and beaten….for showing too much hair….. a ragmag cosmetic seller shows a skin deep ignorance about this problem because they can sell it and profit, as young girls are destroyed by it by the pious family or sharia law and no one can speak, or criticize Islam, but beautiful cover shows is artful photo, so be aware of Islamic sharia taught or requried in all mosques.
mortimer says
The editors want half a billion Muslim women to buy their rag.
FYI says
“superficial” she says..sort of like all that 5 times a day,virtue-signalling, islamic false piety to a male chauvinist Arab god who hates women.
What about islamic fashion?
Correct me if I am wrong but isn’t it the case that in islam……?
make up in public is forbidden
Nail varnish is considered a problem for that WUDU scrub down
Plucked eyebrows are forbidden
tattoos are forbidden
“allah curses women who remove facial hair in order to look more pretty whereby they change allah’s creation”
SAHIH BUKHARI 6;60:408
“allah curses those women who get themselves tattooed”{in the same hadith}
I trust sinead o’connor doesn’t have any tattoos as they are forbidden in islam and allah curses those with tattooes:allah really is a misogynist.
So no make up in public,no nail varnish,hair must be covered,plucked eyebrows and no tattoos:but in return allah allows women{of whom muhammed said have a “deficiency of the mind”} to wear the hijab instead.
And such nice shiny colors and styles they have nowadays.
FYI says
And It appears that she is wearing makeup in public,the eyebrows are plucked,she better not have any nail varnish or tattoos and her voice isn’t supposed to be heard in public:all those things can be found to be haram in islamic teachings{and are formally condemned}
muslims never get Irony.
“Fashion is for everyone”:Not to allah and muhammed it isn’t!
It is not ,according to islamic teachings,for muslimas.
She should try it in Saudi Arabia or iran
mortimer says
Good list of ‘haram’ fashion mistakes. Sharia law is ‘allergic’ to high fashion.
FYI says
Sunan Abi dawud[see sunnah.com} has 43 booksonline that has this information including
Book 34 Clothing{kitab al libas}
Book 35 Combing the hair{kitab al tarajul}
BTW muslimas are forbidden to wear perfume outdoors.
“The prophet said:If a woman uses perfume and passes the people so that they may get its odor,she is a so and so,meaning severe remarks”
Sunan Abi dawud 4173 book 35 hadith 15
So no plucked eyebrows,no make up in public,no perfume outdoors: it seems the Swedish “hijab-clad influencer” missed a lot because she breaks ALL the rules!
And according to the koran she needs to be careful speaking in public uttering only “customary speech”:surely anything to do with fashion would enrage allah?
Ricardo says
wonder how long before she is killed for drawing attention to herself? ELLE sucks, giving anything islam credence. I’m sure there were MANY beautiful Swedish ladies who could have graced the cover page.
You have fallen for their intimidation tactic and Sweden is overrun with muslims. ISLAM is nothing but pure hate of females and anything they deem so.
Mohammed had nothing good to say about women, ever. He said they are created for evil, used for toys, treat women well for they are like domestic animals and they possess nothing, allah made enjoyment of their bodies lawful in quran;women, slaves, and camels are the same; and it goes on and on and on; his demonization of women when he,himself, is the demon.
this person mo was really smoking the good stuff when he came up with all of this plagiarized writings.

Would the Prophet (pbuh) approve of her unveiled, fully exposed, makeup-caked face? We need more diversity in the fashion industry, because Diversity Is Our Strength. When all women are hijabbed and veiled, we will have achieved 100% diversity, the sharia way. Incidentally, by anagrammatic divination, IMANE ASRY will be right at home in MEAN SYRIA.

Modest in this context means sexually chaste, not humble. It goes back to ancient Mesopotamia. Women of the upper classes were required to wear veils in public, while prostitutes and slaves were not allowed to be veiled. An unveiled woman in public was considered fair game, “public property” according to this article from the Emory Law Review. While cultures other than Islam have required women to wear veils, it has always been tied to women as property. https://www.epreview.org/international/2018/4/27/the-veil-as-law
CogitoErgoSum says
A woman covering her hair and then putting on lipstick, earrings and other makeup makes absolutely no sense. She is saying she is modest while at the same time wanting people to see how pretty her face is. Muhammad would have an explanation for this lack of consistency by pointing out that women are not as intelligent as men … and she would praise him for saying so. If she were sincere about her modesty she would also wear a veil and ditch the earrings.
Jocelyn says
Ok, I really may be getting myself into hot water but here but I’m going to jump in anyway. I don’t really care about hijab. I know what it represents and in general, I kinda loathe Islam, but do you all feel the same way about Christian women who wear a scarf/ mantilla during church?
CogitoErgoSum says
Jocelyn, a scarf is not mandatory for women at the churches I’ve attended but I’ve noticed that some women do wear one – out of respect for tradition, I suppose. Makeup has never been necessary for attending church but it would not seem out of place for a woman to wear some there. I never did view the wearing of a scarf by women as being done out of modesty but rather out of obedience or respect. I don’t think Christian women have ever been required to wear a veil. However, a person should dress more modestly for church than for a party or going to the beach. I respect those who understand how to dress appropriately for the occasion.
tim gallagher says
I’m someone who couldn’t care about what is fashionable or not, but , nevertheless, I do think the clothes the woman is wearing in the photo where you can see her whole body, not just the photo of her face, look pretty appalling. Just a shapeless load of rubbish. But I think fashion seems to always come up with complete crap. But this is caving to Islam yet again. It’s all about saying, ain’t Islam just so wonderful and the height of fashion. Pathetic. But I still can’t believe how that crappy look, where people buy jeans with holes cut in them, which I guess has been around for ages now, ever came about. Fashion seems to about ridiculous looks that come and go, usually fairly quickly. It’s such a weird world. But somehow celebrating what I think is the obvious oppression of women in misogynistic Islam is pretty sickening. And even when the Muslim women are choosing to wear the head gear, it always seems to me to be trying to make the statement that they are Muslim, they aren’t going to look like infidels, they are always going to be separate from the non-Muslims.

IslamKills says
HaHa! As usual you guys hate when someone lives their life. I thought the west believed in liberty??
CogitoErgoSum says
Is wearing the hijab of matter of liberty? Come to think of it, yes, it is – and sometimes a matter of life and death as well.
FYI says
The islamic world doesn’t believe in Liberty:women have been jailed for not wearing the hijab in countries like iran.
{ A woman should have the right NOT to wear one;THAT would be Liberty}
“Is wearing the hijab a matter of liberty?”
“If they do that{i.e wear the hijab}it will be known that they are free and that they are not servants or whores”
TAFSIR IBN KATHIR 33:59
So a woman who doesn’t wear{or refuses to wear} the hijab= a servant/a whore
The woman who doesn’t want to wear one will be subject to ill-treatment.
The woman who feels obliged to wear one will be “free”…..from male bullying or any suspicion she is a whore/servant.She is not ‘free’ you note, to discard the hijab because to do so means she will be regarded as a whore/servant.

The mendacious “IslamKills” pretending that responding to harmful trends is not freedom of expression is grotesque–but scarcely surprising.
