What is The Bachelors Club?

It’s a gentleman’s club—like the dignified men of the past used to have. Except, we’re not gentleman, and we’re not dignified.

We’re ineligible bachelors, bored, jaded and not looking for relationships. Quite the opposite actually. So committed to being single, we’ve created a high stakes bet to see who can remain single the longest…

Four days co-habitating in a shared work space shouldn’t be a big deal. It shouldn’t be distracting. But Spencer Standish saw me puking in a company trash can, and won’t let me live it down. Cheerful, aggravating Spencer, who wants me to fetch her coffee.

As if she’s the boss of me.

And now I’m stuck sharing her office.

Let’s face facts: I can’t be in a relationship; not when there’s a bet to win—not with Spencer, who loves my uncontrollable basset hound, lazy Sundays, and grilled cheese as much as I do. I refuse to fall for her.

I will be the last Bachelor standing.

Fishing for a boyfriend in the workplace pond is by far the worst idea I’ve ever had. Is it stopping me from flirting my perky tits off? Not one bit.

This was a light-hearted, easy, and fluffy romance, and also just what the Dr prescribed when I wanted to take my mind off of everything happening right now. It was one of those reads that you can enjoy in one sitting, completely shut your mind off, and just put a smile on your face. I love Ney's brand of humor, and this definitely brought all of the banter with a dash of enemies-to-lovers, office romance trope. It was adorable!

Phillip and Spencer are unwilling office mates while Phillip is basically squatting in his office while the part of the building where he works is being remodeled. And when Spencer watches him spitefully eat a bagel with expired cream cheese and later chuck it all up in a waste basket soon after, it's hate at first sight. They bicker non-stop and it's oh so delicious because beneath that is a spark of attraction that sizzles so strong.

This was definitely a slow burn, and if I'm being perfectly honest, a bit too slow for me in parts. I loved the bantering between Spencer and Phillip, but the romance doesn't fully pick up until well over the 75% mark of the book, and then wraps up too quickly for me to have truly gotten to enjoy it.

The one thing I really love in this series is the inclusion of the quirky pets. Book one brought an evil cat and this one brought an irreverent basset hound.

While I can't say that this book was perfect, it was still one that I enjoyed, fluffy or not. It was cute and light-hearted read that was fast-paced even while being a slow burn. I love Ney's brand of douchebags best, but I'm definitely still enjoying her Bastards quite a bit.

I like the first book in this series. So I dived into Bachelor Boss, the second book. And I am very disappointed. The sassy smart banters that I was expecting, is not here in Bachelor Boss. I have a big problem connecting with the characters.

Philip and Spencer are both immature and annoying. They are bantering into a small stupid things like expired sour cream and throwing up the food. I do not get it. Their attraction is also forced and weird. Miss Ney invests too much on the inner dialog instead of concentration building the real chemistry between Philip and Spencer.

Even the dog can not save the book.

FOUR FUNNY STARS for Spencer and Phillip 💖💚!!!

🌟🌟🌟🌟

"Bachelor Boss" is the second book from "The Bachelors Club". It's the cute, sweet and extremely funny romantic-comedy book for reading.

I enjoyed every page I've read because it's made me laugh the whole time and also it made me forget about real life.

Spencer and Phillip's relationship is everything and their conversations are one of my favorite things in this book.

If you're looking for a rom-com and you also love Sara Ney's books, then this is a book for you!

Bachelor Boss was another cute and quirky, low angst winner from Sara Ney. I enjoyed Phillip and Spencer and their banterific dynamic. This story was sweet and sexy and hit me right in the romcom feels.

Anyone who knows me knows that romcoms aren't my thing. But for some reason, whenever I read this author, I can't keep myself from grinning from ear to ear. Phillip was loveable and sweet and his "Humphrey doting ways" were totally adorable. Spencer likewise was a sassy spitfire who gave as good as she got. Their exchanges were funny and sometimes awkward but that made this story all the more endearing.

Overall, this series is definitely not like Ney's Douchbag series as the heroes are more playful and sweet. But the connections with their heroines also feel genuine and real and I for one can't get enough. 4 stars! ~Ratula

***

I knew I was in for a treat when I found myself belly laughing through the first chapter. While romcoms are, in general, hit-or-miss for me, Sara Ney definitely knows how to deliver the humor. There's something so authentic in the way some of these scenes are written and for me, I think that's the real charm in these books.

Spencer and Phillip were so much fun to read. They had a sort of offbeat chemistry that didn't really offer a whole lot of depth, but was still highly entertaining to read. The pacing of the story is very fast - so I maybe felt like it was a little difficult to really invest myself in their story, but I felt a sort of distant appreciation for the cuteness of it all.

And it was cute. Phillip was adorable in this sort of clueless, sweet way. Spencer was playful and quirky. Their banter was a complete riot to read and I really did enjoy this book so much. Even Humphrey - who I wasn't expecting to actually like - was irresistible to me. If you've ever known a basset hound, you'll appreciate the authenticity with which Humphrey was written.

In all - I enjoyed this a lot. It was a quick, fun, swoony escape and I cannot wait to see where things go from here! ~ Shelly, 4 Stars

Office Romance | Romantic Comedy

Bachelor Boss is a quick, easy read and had many laugh out loud moments. Readers can be sure to read blast through this one as it’s a fairly short read and giggle the whole way through. While I did enjoy the book for its humor, it was severely lacking romance. Much of the book was back and forth bickering between the two main characters. While their banter was certainly funny, I never felt the sparks between them which is something the book NEEDED in order for it to feel like a romance. I appreciate the book for what it is, but I missed the authors trademark romance style in this one.

I don’t have all that much else to say about this one other than Humphrey stole the show! I love how in this one (and the previous book in the series) that the pets get a POV within the story. Hysterical!

If you’re looking for a light and breezy read and want to catch up with these bachelors, you can certainly give this one a go! Just don’t expect anything serious.

NO SPOILERS!

Sara Ney has another hilarious and entertaining standalone romantic comedy on her hands with Bachelor Boss, and it was a fantastic addition to The Bachelors Club series!

The storyline and characters were awesome. I loved the enemies-to-lovers/ office romance trope, and found the plot engaging and entertaining. Phillip and Spencer were wonderful, and I loved their personalities. The witty dialogue and banter between them provided tons of laughs, and I also loved Phillip’s canine sidekick, Humphrey. I thoroughly enjoyed Phillip and Spencer’s story, and was pleased with the conclusion.

Bachelor Boss was another hilarious and entertaining hit from Sara Ney, and I can’t wait to read more romantic comedies from her!

FIVE STARS!!

As you may know from my book review on the first book in "The Bachelors Club" series I immediately fell in love with the characters. As the first book was telling the story of Brooks and Abbott, this second book follows the story of Phillip and Spencer. Two co-workers who work on opposite sides of the building, who meet in the break room and our brought together when they have to share an office.

At first they annoy each other, but that just might change as they continue to have to share a work space. But Phillip in a strong willed man determined to win the items of being the last man standing in The Bachelors Club. Brooks has already lost so whose next? Phillip?

I devoured this book and highly recommend. I would suggest reading the books in the order so far,so read the "Bachelor Society" first than read "Bachelor Boss".

I loved this book, it was just what I needed – light, fluffy, laugh-out-loud funny, slightly ridiculous and sweetly romantic. This is an angst-free, quick and easy read that left me with a big grin on my face.

This is the second book in the Bachelors Club series, about a group of three friends who form a club and make a bet as to which of them can remain single and unattached the longest.

Is it childish that we’re doing this? Yes
Does it go against everything our parents taught us about love and relationships? Also yes.
Do we care? No.

Phillip and Spencer are colleagues forced into cohabiting in Spencer’s office while Phillip’s undergoes renovation. It’s only for a week, but neither of them are happy about it, and though there is an attraction and they are quietly crushing on each other, it reads more like an enemies-to-lovers romance. The bantering and bickering is freaking hilarious, and I couldn’t get enough of these two going at each other over the stupidest things…

Not a spoiler… just long… but funny!

But of course things change. The bickering is hotly intermingled with flirting, and when they actually stop sniping at each other, they realise that they enjoy each other’s company. But is the promise of everything they could be worth Phillip losing out with his buddies? And how will Spencer react when she finds out about it all? Will she even give him the time of day?

It's a fun, flirty and snarky ride, and I loved Phillip and Spencer’s story. Written in dual POV, I loved their inner monologues as much as I loved their chemistry-filled dynamic. Phillip’s friends are there of course, and Spener’s bff is so freaking funny. It’s all enhanced by the presence of Phillip’s hilarious basset hound, Humphrey, who surprisingly brings a lot to the story.

This is a really quick read, but I was fully invested, and laughed my way from start to finish. I would have like just a bit more romance, but what we get is sweet and sexy.

Lots of fun, I loved this one!

Sara Ney never lets me down when it comes to well-written, witty, laugh out loud romcoms, and in her newest release, Bachelor Boss, book two in The Bachelors Club series, she combines her clever word play with a few of my favorite tropes - enemies-to-lovers and office romance, which means that the snark and put downs will be in large quantity has these two office mates work to get under each other’s skin while also fighting their mutual attraction, but for much different reasons.

Phillip is most definitely an ineligible bachelor, and when it comes to winning a bet, he’ll do whatever it takes to be the last man standing. Too bad things start to stack against him when he’s forced to share an office with who he sees as the bane of his existence and unknowingly, at least at first, the woman who could make him give up his bachelorhood and make him lose the bachelor bet.

I’m all about a quirky heroine and Spencer definitely fits that category. In some ways, I think unconventional characters are the most authentic because, in my opinion, they’re more real and easier to connect with, and readers get to see Spencer hold her own with Phillip and give as good as she gets, which make for some amazing verbal sparring scenes.

Phillip and Spencer’s relationship is definitely a slow-burn, which makes sense given the apparent disdain that surrounds them when they’re in the same space. But it’s clear that there’s an underlying sexual tension brewing between them, and once those looks of contempt become ones of interest and desire, it’s only a matter of time until these two realize just how compatible they are.

The fact that the story is told in both main characters’ POVs as well as an important secondary character makes Bachelor Boss one humorous and entertaining read, and I can’t wait to see the other bachelors lose the bet and their hearts.

After an embarrassing and somewhat stubborn first encounter Phillip now finds himself sharing a workspace with Spencer. These two butt heads constantly and seem to purposely want to annoy each other but also can't help the attraction they feel. Only problem is Phillip and his friends have a bet going on and he wants to win but to do so that means he must remain the last Bachelor Standing. Easy right?

In true Sara Ney fashion the banter was on point in this story. It was witty and super funny. It was sweet at times and the low drama made this just an all round easy book to read. I loved both Phillip & Spencer. Their arguments were hilarious and rather juvenile and they often reminded me of pre school children being asked to share their favourite toy but honeslty it just made each interaction between them entertaining.

Even though I enjoyed the story it was also rather short. I feel I didn't have enough time to really connect with the couple and would've rathered more development where their relationship was concerned. It just felt like it could've used a few more chapters towards the end. I will say though that I liked how realistic and normal their relationship felt. It wasn't over the top lust filled and didn't play out like an unrealistic fantasy which I actually thought was very fitting for these two but I just wish we got more of them as a couple.

Also shoutout to the dog Humphrey coz he really was a Boss 🖤💙🖤

I was a little nervous when I picked this book up. I read the first book in the series and it just missed the mark for me, which sux because I love Sara Ney's How to Date a Douchebag series so much, I just wanted to love it. So I was apprehensive about this one but I had to try.

I didn't read the blurb for this. I just knew it was one of the other bastards and since I wasn't massive fans of either, I didn't have an opinion on which one I would have preferred. Phillip was actually a lot less douchey than I was expecting and I actually found I quite liked him.

It might have had something to do with the fact he was completely owned by his misbehaving pooch. Because, let's be honest no one can dislike a guy who puts up with that much crap from their dog. Aside from that he also tried so hard not to like Spencer but he wasn't an arse about it. And once he realised how much he liked her he didn't mess around.

Spencer was quirky. She was so her own person and I really had fun reading all the crazy things she just let fire from her mouth. And she didn't try to play it cool or hide her interest but she called him out when he was an idiot. I think she would be someone awesome to kick back and have a drink with.

I am so glad I enjoyed this book. It was a perfect read for a lazy afternoon full of giggles and aww moments and I'm really looking forward to seeing the next bastard fall.

Again, the second book in the The Bachelors Club series comes with an interesting story.
It's absolutely entertaining and I had a constant smile on my face while reading. The banter between Phillip and Spencer is cute and funny.

But I found myself having the same problem with the first book: I couldn't connect with the characters and had trouble feeling their chemistry and attraction.
I also missed that something was actually happening. And IMO it was lacking some swoon-worthy romantic moments.

However, Sara Ney's writing style kept my eyes glued to the pages and surprised me with some laugh out loud moments.

ARC kindly received in exchange for an honest review.

This was a really easy and light hearted read. Two colleagues who suddenly meet in the break room, and end up sharing an office due to renovations. The banter between Spencer and Phillip had me laughing out loud from the start.

These two were lots of fun, and I really enjoyed breezing through this story. Second the series but easily read as a standalone. (I myself haven't read the first book yet). I liked how these two would jibe at each other, but they both knew it was in jest and not serious. Their dynamic was quite interesting. I also loved the bits with Humphrey. What a bugger he was!

Easy read, really enjoyable, definitely recommend.

I loved Bachelor Boss (The Bachelors Club #2). It was such a sweet romance with tons of laughs. I was just smiling and laughing the entire time I read this. I guess it could be considered enemies to lovers but I feel like it was more workplace friends to lovers in a slow burn delicious way. It’s funny and lighthearted with the BEST internal dialogue that will just make your heart smile. Philip and Spencer were literally just too cute and perfect for each other. ⁣

Bachelor Boss totally gave me Jock Row and Stirling/Scarlett vibes which I am here for because that is my fave Sara book. It was just the ease of the friendship and relationship, with no crazy drama. It was fun and steamy right where you want it to be. Overall, I really liked this book and Philip is definitely book boyfriend material. ⁣

I received an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion. ⁣

Bachelor Boss was such a fastpaced hilarious read. This is something you can always guarantee from Sara Ney as she is a RomCom Queen; once more leaving me in a fit of laughter!

Phillip is part of the Bachelor Bastard Society and the 2nd man left standing after Brooks falls in love with Abott in book 1.

Phillip is assigned an office mate at his job, and from the moment he meets Spencer it's a battle of wits. Constant back and forth, bantering, and arguing. Spencer has this cute bohemanian chic style to her. She loves cake and is quirky and fun. She's from the marketing department, the south side of the building. Sharing her space with Phillip becomes her new adventure. They constantly busted each other's chops. Soon their feelings turn into those of attraction and they can no longer fight them.

One of my favorite elements of this series has to be the involvement of the pets lol. Book 1 had Desdemona, the evil cat and in this one we have Humphrey, the lazy basset hound. Reading Phillip's interactions with his dog gave this story spunk and so much life!

Overall, the story was a bit of a slow burn. The romance build up took awhile, not really developing until close to the end. Even then, it felt like there wasn't much romance because it was wrapped up quickly. Although this one didn't turn out to be a favorite, I enjoyed those heartwarming and sweet moments that filled up the pages. I'm looking forward to Blaine's book next!

I will literally read anything Sara Ney writes.

This book was funny and lighthearted. Definitely a good pick me up right now.
I enjoyed the banter and the enemies to lovers vibe Spencer and Phillip gave me 🙂. These two couldn’t be more different. Force them to share an office and things were bound to get wild. 😅
We also got a POV from Humphrey 🙌🏼
Who is just the cutest and most stubborn dog ever 🤣😅

Very excited for Blaine’s book and to see what happens to with the dating bet ☺️
I personally enjoyed the first book more.

Bachelor Boss is the second book in Sara's The Bachelors Club series. They are all standalones within the series. The characters are inter-connected but you these books are made to be standalones and Sara keeps to that.

I love Sara's douche bag series so I was definitely interested in reading this series. However, it does not even meet those expectations. :( Don't get me wrong - the book was good, but not what I was expecting from Sara.

This is very sweet, short and easy read. There is a lot of laughs to be had but the romance was definitely lacking. I love a slow burn and appreciate the build up, but once we got there, the book around 75% and then things just felt rushed.

I truly wish this book was longer because you could sense the chemistry and connection between these two. I enjoyed it but not as much as I hoped. Most romance readers will love the quick and sweet read.

5-star banter makes this light-hearted rom com absolutely fly by - I devoured this in one sitting and did so with a smile on my face the whole time. It's not a perfect book - the romance was wrapped up WAY too quickly for my liking - but it was exactly what I needed in my life on the day I read it. Sara Ney always writes great dialogue, banter, and snark, which is the heart of this book, and I loved every minute of it.

The story follows Phillip and Spencer, coworkers who have never met before. They work in different departments but a chance encounter in the breakroom leads to a rather unique meet cute that sets the tone for their relationship. When they're forced to share an office for a week during some renovations, conflict turns to banter which turns into sparks of chemistry. The problem? Phillip is part of a group of friends who have agreed not to date - even wagering their most prized possessions - and our slightly nerdy, analytical hero knows it would be ludicrous to give that all up for a girl he's known for a matter of days.

Taking place over the course of a week, we get to see this relationship develop from strangers to friends to lovers at lightning speed. It's the kind of book where you feel like you're falling for the characters at the same time that they fall for each other. It's dialogue-based with a light, playful feel that will draw you in. Phillip isn't the usual romance hero - he's kinda nerdy, a gentleman with a touch of douchebag in him - and Spencer is an outspoken, blunt heroine whose presence fills a room. Together, they make a great pair. This doesn't follow the typical romance "formula," instead moving at its own pace with an understated element of romance. Yes, Phillip and Spencer are the sole focus of the book, but it does take place over the course of a few days and has minimal heat. It's a quick, fun read that will draw you in and keep you smiling for a few hours - and I think we could all use a little of that in our lives. I received an ARC via Wildfire Marketing Solutions and am voluntarily leaving a review of this playful rom com.

After finishing the first book in the series, I found myself in a bit of a...strange place with this series, one I definitely do not find myself in a lot, where I didn’t really care for the two men left standing when it came to the bet, but totally wanting to see them both fail miserably and be brought to their knees by a woman.

A bit mercenary? Maybe, but come on? This “bet” *scoffs*

Anyways, when the next was announced, and dropped on the Kindle, I was so ready to bear witness to the downfall of another member of the Society and I gotta say it was a lot of fun to watch Phillip meet his match (and then some) in Spencer. Spencer was a hoot. This woman definitely gives as good as she gets. Spencer. It was hard not to actually like the guy, regardless of the bet. He’s a little quirky, but does have a good heart.

As for their journey...well...the romance. The I love yous with hearts, flowers, angsty, smexy time moments were kinda scarce and didn’t really show up until the end of the book BUT I can’t deny that while I didn’t get a lot of that stuff, I still really enjoyed watching Spencer and Phillip go at it verbally with each other. It was flirting and getting to know each other in a totally different way and it worked for me. So, while I would have liked more romance, I still really enjoyed it and how things ended up for them.

This was a quick, fun read and while Duchess Desdamona is still my favorite, Humphrey’s was a cutie, even with all the drool. And we are down to Blaine being the last man standing and I cannot wait to see just who knocks him on his arse!

So much goodness in one sweet and snarky read…

This author has a wonderful flair for douche-y yet completely irresistible male leads. I don’t want to like them but they are just so pretty even as these, these words continue to spew from their mouths. A nod to the author that has me shaking my head but enjoying them at the same time. And their strong, funny and equally compelling counterparts? Yeah, this reading gift just keeps on giving as women take them on head (and heart) full on. This is the second the series and with it brought more of the ‘determined to never love’ boys who are being knocked over by the romantic stuff one hold out at a time…

Phillip made me laugh out loud with his bumbling yet totally workable take on life. From his first hilarious meeting with Spencer I knew she was going to keep on his toes. And did she ever! Their banter was sexy and sweet with the need to chuckle or laugh out loud part of every conversation. Was it love at first sight? I think so, though disguised in snarky talk and lots, lots, of protesting.
Throwing in an adorable dog felt almost overdone as I was a fan already! There will be more and

I’m not unhappy one little bit that I get another glimpse of those snappy blazers…

Spencer and Phillip have a unique relationship. Their banter and back and forth antics were hilarious, and they way they first met is something I won’t forget anytime soon.

These two are meant for each other and you can see the chemistry build between them after each page. I even loved the dog Humphrey. He was such a stubborn pet which made for some pretty interesting scenes.

This fun, fast paced book was such a good read. I just wish there was more. I felt like most of the story took place in the office and some things became repetitive. They honestly didn’t do much and then the story was over.

I can’t wait to get more of this series. I need to know how this club ends!

The BACHELORS are back at it again and another one bites the dust in the newest installment in Sara Ney's standalone Bachelors Club series!

Bachelor Boss is another hilariously entertaining romantic comedy from the incredibly talented Sara Ney and I couldn't get enough of these two. Phillip McGuire and Spencer Standish were absolutely adorkable and I found myself addicted to their bantering moments right from the very first scene they shared. Lets just say I will NEVER look at cream cheese the same way (yuck 🤢). I mean to be fair Spencer did try to warn him, but of course Phillip was a little stubborn and didn't listen. Oh and don't even get me started on their slow burn romance that had me swooning as it pulled on all of my heartstrings! Their chemistry was EVERYTHING and I never wanted it to end.

Not only did I love them, but it was nice visiting old characters (Brooks & Blaine) and our newest furry friend (Humphrey). This story is a MUST read and I cannot freaking wait for Blaine's story because I have a strong feeling that he WILL find himself falling the hardest!

Funny, light and fast-paced. Sara Ney definitely knows how to brighten reader’s day with her sense of humor and witty banter that fills her stories. Bachelor Boss is a hilarious book, full of funny and adorable moments and just the right amount of sexual tension between main characters.

Phillip is another member of Bastard Bachelor Society, determined to win. However, renovation at his workplace forces him to share the office with a beautiful, nosy and quirky office-mate. Innocent disagreements and sarcastic put-downs turn into lingering glances and what-ifs. But is gorgeous Spencer that Phillip knows only a few days worth waving the white flag?

Phillip and Spencer’s story brought me a lot of entertainment, I was constantly laughing out loud and wiping tears from my eyes. It was also totally swoon-worthy and adorable read. No one is able to beat Sara Ney with the sarcastic and hilarious sentences and the amount of cuteness she puts in her books. This author has mastered writing rom-coms to perfection!

So. I hadn’t read the first book of Sara Ney’s The Bachelor’s Club series prior to signing up for the ARC of Bachelor Boss. The first book, Bachelor Society, was legitimately burning a hole in my Kindle while I was reading other ARCs. Why? Because I had read Ney’s How to Date a Douchebag series and learned quickly that I loved her construction of heroes. She has this way of writing douchebag-heroes who you can’t help but love and hate. At the beginning of her rom-coms, you can barely stand her heroes: they are quite frankly, sometimes, dim-witted, narrow-minded, playboys. In the world of romance, these are some of THE best heroes because they will meet a heroine who will “rock their world.” One minute, you find them ogling anything with boobs and a skirt (or short-shorts), and the next minute, Ney’s heroes are falling down the deep path towards everlasting love. What Ney does brilliantly is craft this journey in such a way that her heroes rarely recognize it until it hits them square in their head. For this reader, there is NOTHING like a “redemption” arc, or at least Romancelandia’s equivalent to it. And “this redemption” brings energy to her stories as they inhabit any of the various romance tropes: brother’s best friend, enemies-to-lovers, workplace romance, etc. Ney’s newest book, the second book of the series, Bachelor Boss, is no different.

Now, I will say that I actually like Phillip, the hero, more than her hero in Bachelor Society. Going into the book, and knowing a little bit about Phillip, I thought there would be more of the same bully-ish way about him, much like Brooks had been. However, that isn’t the case. I mean, he’s a bit dense (like Brooks), a bit of a player (also like Brooks), and slow to understand his feelings (just like Brooks). All of these traits conspire to put you, the reader, at arm’s length. Yet, as Phillip meets Spencer, the heroine and his office mate, her irreverent way of pushing his buttons begins to unravel him. In his unraveling (which is Ney’s specialty), we glimpse someone who actually has a depth of character that seemed non-existent in Ney’s first hero of this series. Phillip reads a bit more sensitive once you move past his douchebag exterior. While he fights settling down, in the back of his mind, he wants to find The One, settle down, and have children. Eventually. With that layer, Ney shows us that Phillip has a depth to him, and redemption is inevitable if he finds the woman who can love him fully, which, of course, Ney creates most splendidly.

While Ney is a genius at writing these heroes who you love to cringe at, she also has this ability to devise her heroines. First of all, while her heroines are beautiful, there is a sense that they are “any girl.” They tend to have normal bodies, and they are incredibly quirky. You know that it takes just the right guy to love Ney’s flavor of heroine. Each of her heroines is self-possessed: they know who they are and they don’t bemoan their eccentricities. They are simply “who they are.” Spencer is Ney’s heroine in Bachelor Boss, and she is the “zing” to Phillips’s “zest.” She is the only woman who can admonish him, challenge him, and fall for him. While he is a “numbers guy” focused on business, Spencer is his artistic complement. Where she’s creative, he is constructive. As such, this creates a fire of chemistry, some compelling banter, and a romantic journey that engages the reader to the very last page. Spencer can only be the partner for Phillip. Once both of them realize this, the happy ending is right around the corner, and it’s a perfect one.

There is one added touch to this series: pets. In Bachelor Society, Abbott’s cat provided some additional hilarity in the story. In fact, Ney gives these pets their own points of view. While this can sometimes break the chronology and force of her storytelling, it offers a respite too. You can chuckle at Desdemona’s perspective, as s/he observes her owner and love interest. For Bachelor Boss, we gain the perspective of Phillip’s dog, Humphrey. Like Desdemona, Humphrey has his own agenda. He wants what he wants when he wants it, and it sometimes wreaks havoc in the life of his owner and, by extension, his love interest. Like Desi in the first book of the series, Humphrey has his own chapters where we “see” through his perspective Phillip and Spencer’s burgeoning relationship. Those chapters are really more focused on Humphrey getting his needs met in his way, but it also provides a different perspective, one that makes you chuckle. I think incorporating these voices into her story adds another level of humor as it points us to what we, as pet owners, often believe our pets to be thinking. It also pushes us back a bit from the journey of her hero and heroine offering an insight that might not be found in other romances.

What Sara Ney does well in all of her rom-coms is make us laugh. Her books show us that anyone can find love. That love can bring the most dedicated playboy to his knees if it’s with the right woman. It’s the reason I keep reading her books. Just like her newest book, Bachelor Boss, I can laugh away the cares of my day at the lengths her heroes will go to remain single even as they pine for the heroine. That her heroines hold that depth of power in her romances is another added bonus. If you haven’t read Sara Ney before, you should read this series: Bachelor Society and Bachelor Boss. It’s a perfect read during this imperfect time.

Phillip and Blaine are the last men standing. He really wants to win the bet he and the other guys have, and thinks it'll be no problem to avoid falling for a woman, considering he hasn't been with one in awhile, and hasn't even met one he's interested in. And then the day happens. The day when a really sassy, obnoxious (gorgeous) coworker watches him puke into the trashcan after he eats a bagel with expired cream cheese. And then they have to share an office. And then somehow he can't stop thinking about her even as she drives him crazy with her mouthy attitude and beautiful lips.

Bachelor Boss is just the lighthearted, funny read I needed after having been stuck inside going stir crazy during this time of sheltering in place for weeks on end. It's not particularly deep or even very sexy, but it is fun and funny and Phillip and Spencer's banter and barbs are hilarious. I can picture them in my head and the thought makes me laugh my ass off. Just the thing needed in this world of stay at home and worry we are all facing right now.

Another cute and quirky romance to add to the Sara Ney pile.

Spencer & Phillip have just become unlikely office mates. Phillip’s side of the building has to be redone and while he waits he gets to spend his week working in Spencer’s office.

They both do not get off to a great start. Even though there’s a mutual attraction Spencer is goofy & sarcastic, which Philip tries his hardest to hate (instead he secretly digs it)

Phillip is deep down a sweet guy who wants the white picket fence but has never had luck. While Spencer is a ball buster & says what’s on her mind so she’s never had luck either. But could this unlikely pair have Phillip throwing the towel in on his bachelor bet?

The back and forth banter is really cute. It was fun the creative ways they drove each other nuts. I also love the inclusion of the pets in this series. It’s very different compared to come of Sara’s other books, it’s fluffier & sweeter. Although I cannot say this one is one my favorites. It fell short for me as a slow burn that felt like it was forever burning. We don’t see any action until maybe the 70-80% mark & then it kind of gets straight to epilogue. That was a little disappointing.

Overall I did enjoy it and I definitely read it in one sitting because it was cute & angsty. I just wanted a little more of these two, so now I’ll be not so patiently waiting to read Blaine’s book!!
