Airbus A330-800 Cleared to Fly: EASA and FAA Approved

Airbus celebrates yet another milestone. The A330-800 was awarded joint type certification by both the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). 

It took 370 flight test hours and a total of 132 flights, including the maiden one performed in November, 2018, to complete certification flight-test campaign. The freshly approved member of a widebody A330neo aircraft Family is powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines.

According to Airbus, the plane was certified “with a maximum take-off weight (MTOW) of 242 tonnes for a range capability of up to 7,500 nautical miles”.

In three-class layout, the aircraft will be able to seat 220 to 260 passengers, meanwhile in a single-class high-density configuration the twinjet will be capable of carrying up to 406 travellers.

In terms of the orders for this type, there are 14, depending on Airbus orders & deliveries sheet. Eight to Kuwait Airways, two to Uganda Airlines and four to undisclosed customer. The date of first delivery has not been revealed.
