New year, fresh start, ZERO ORDERS, same problems. This is the beginning of 2020 at the Boeing Company. This is the report on the month of January which brought the US planemaker zero orders for new planes.

For the first time in decades Boeing ended the year of 2019 with a negative order rate. For the first time since 1962 the month of January was without a single order.

The main reason stays behind the 737 MAX crisis which extended far beyond any initial forecast. It is almost one year the 737 MAX aircraft are grounded globally following two fatal crashes.

While no new order, supplemented Boeing’s list, the airframer delivered a total of 13 new aircraft in January: six 787 Dreamliners, two 777s, two 767s and three 737NGs.

In general, the beginning of the year is usually slow for plane manufacturers, however, Boeing sees the slowdown for a relatively long period of time.

Airbus on Fire

While Boeing struggles to secure to bookings, Airbus logged net orders for 274 its commercial aircraft in January. During the same month, Airbus handed over 31 planes, including A220, A320, A330 and A350 XWB aircraft families.
