Life of Debauchery #1

From the First Verse

Rate this book
Dear diary,

Once upon a time…

There was a girl with long golden hair who had the bluest, truest eyes that turned white when she cried.

She lived in a kingdom far, far away in a tower made of stone, but her mind was made of glass that she kept sharp as knives.

Where her memories hid behind her darkest doubts.
Her deepest thoughts.
Her diary became the only thing she could rely on.

No one saw through her looking glass.
No one cared.
No one tried.

Until the villain presented himself as the hero in her life.
He took and took and took some more.

With no regret.
With no shame.
With no apology.

The page never turned.
Their story didn’t end.
Tomorrow never came.

His life of debauchery was their journey to nowhere.

She’d give anything to go back in time.
To walk where she had walked.
To see what she had seen.
One step.
One breath.
One day at a time.
Though in the end, “I love you” were just words.

That destroyed us inside.

Listen:....

To say that I’m confused is a fucking understatement!

This book has to be the most disappointing book ever!

Things I liked about the book- the cover and the blurb.

Things I didn’t like- everything else!

Im sorry but M Robinson needs to learn how to write children because I’m not sure which kids she’s around but the way she writes their dialogue is not it!

“Because you hear music like I do.” “And how’s that?” The next words out of her mouth almost knocked me on my ass. When she expressed, “Music is what feelings sound like.”

Ladies and gents this quote came from a six year old girl!

And then there’s the issue with the actual story....

13 year old Boy and girl are best friends- boy babysits her one yr old sister who he calls " little miss thang” and connects with her ( because you know so many teen boys loves to babysit ). For 6 years they are "special friends" and then he leaves to pursue his rock and roll dreams. Between the age 18-30 it’s just TMZ reports and updates about his life to fame. At the 55% mark he reconnects with little miss thang and he’s so attracted to her. She goes on tour with them while they’re fighting this attraction. At 69% apparently she was “his girl” and perfect for him.

Then it turns out that he fucked her sister (his was old best friend ) got her knocked up and then said he didn’t want to baby. The h is ok with it because the baby has his eyes and music in it’s soul just like him but waittttt....it ends on a cliffy with him asking the h her to marry him????

So let’s just forget the fact that he changed your diapers, knocked your sister up and didn’t speak to you for 11 years while he’s out living his life......

Did I mention that he snorts coke like his life depends on it and drinks whiskey for breakfast while having gang bangs?

Oops....guess I forgot that little bit!

Robinson girl......wyd?

FIRST-VERSE

'FROM THE FIRST VERSE' is the first full length romance book in M. Robinson's 'Life of Debauchery' duet.

We’ve all wanted to get our grabby little hands on Cash’s story, hoping that it gives us a broader understanding of what truly made him into the man he became with the heartbreaking hardships he’d endured along the way. Seeing the only time he truly came alive was when he'd have a guitar in his hands.

Real
Raw
Riveting

Along with fame came an all time high but also brung along with it the all time lows, with sex, drugs and rock n roll.

The first half of this story is a recap of past scenes of sorts, the break down of friendships, parents who turn their backs on him and a little girl whom he babysat from time to time where a bond was forged through their love of music where he sung her Johnny Cash songs.

She brought her tiny fingers together, gesturing in sign language for 'more.' giphyb1682d9619858843.gif

About the halfway mark is where the past and present collide, this is where the true magic of the story shines through. This is where we encounter an eighteen year old Journey aka Junie she's not a little girl anymore with eyes gazing at her crush, she's all woman and he has no idea how to deal with her. Even now their bond is as strong as ever.

I read this in record speeds, my eyes glued to my ipad as I raced through the pages, loving what this story was evoking in me, a front row seat as he rose to fame, but came at such a high cost, turning his back on ones that loved him even if he couldn't see it himself, chasing his demons away with booze and drugs.

The heroine: Journey (a.k.a. Junie) - she grew up loving music and loving Cash McGraw who lived in the neighborhood and made music with his band. She always knew she would end up with Cash. From the time she was a baby and he played for her, she always asked for more even using baby sign language.

The Hero: Johnny Cash McGraw (a.k.a. Cash Motherf*ckin McGraw) - he grew up in a small community with all his friends and family. He knew from a young age that music was it for him and from that time spent all his time practicing his guitar, he was self taught and loved music more than anything. He had good friends including his best friend Harley, his band mates and little Journey who he watched a few times when she was a baby. He constantly felt like he disappointed his father who wouldn’t miss a football game but never went to a gig Cash played.

The Story: Cash was a nice guy growing up amongst family and friends. Though he loved music and everything that came with the lifestyle. Cash had issues with his father who was a detective, since the time Cash first picked up a guitar and it all came to a head after his first huge gig at Rock Fest.

Cash and his band made it big and he lived the sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle. His band Life of Debauchery lived up to their name and became the biggest band in the world. When Cash sees Journey with another band on his European tour, he jumps in and takes her on his own bus to write an article for her journalism major about life on the road with a famous rock band. He tells his band mates to keep their hands off.

This one had a very involved story with all the feels. I didn’t expect it and loved every minute. I read a few other reviews of this one and was extremely disappointed that they gave away a big spoiler in this book. So if you want to read this one, don’t read any other reviews first.

The book was told in multiple points of view via duet narration. I love it when they do duet narration. You don’t have to listen to females doing male voices and vice versa. The narration was done by Marcio Catalano, Addison Barnes & Troy Duran who all did a stellar job. I can’t wait to listen to the next one.

The hero used to babysit the heroine. When she was 6 years old, she was obsessed with the hero, who was then 18 years old.

The heroine's sister was the hero's friend and one day they get drunk and have sex and she gets pregnant. He doesn't want the baby so she raises the baby with the person she later marries.

He goes and becomes famous and lives a life of debauchery (alcohol, coke, drugs, sex-gang bangs etc) and he meets the heroine again when he is 30 and she is 18 and falls for her immediately.

The book ends in a cliffhanger.

Personally, I cannot stand the fact that he knocked up her sister. That's not something I prefer in my romance books.

Also, making the heroine fall for an 18-year old guy at the age of 6 sounds a bit awkward to me. If two 6-year old children were best friends and were very keen on each other, that would feel OK but this one doesn't feel right to me.

I loved some of this writer's books but some were not for me at all. This duet sadly goes to my "avoid" list despite its awesome cover with the handsome Christopher Mason on it.

Edit: sorry I missed it (this book is confusing if you haven't read the duet first which I didn't), but it was the heroine's brother's gf he gets preggo, who might as well have been a sister of the heroine and still gross in my book. Anyways, he gets her preggo but doesn't want to raise the kid, instead the SIL's boyfriend is going to. Besides that, it is a typical rockstar book. Literally just drugs and sex with OW (in which he does describe and has pretty much orgies). Not for me.

ARC received for an honest review

If you read the Love Hurts duet, you will already know Cash motherf&*king McGraw.

And like me, you probably don't like him much after those books.

Gotta say, as much as I didn't think she could do it, Ms Robinson has turned me around - well, mostly - and I am going to end up adoring the man.

His dreams have come true, and his girl Journey is all grown up. Boy, is she all grown up!

I need Cash to redeem himself for things he has said and done in the past, and, well I am still on the fence about whether Ms Robinson can really do it.

Music is life, music is his soul, but he is still a big ar$e douche for so much of this story that I wanted to climb into my Kindle and throttle him!

But this is an M Robinson story, and she does love to torture us with lots of angst before she makes thing better.

I know she will do it, but man oh man she makes it hard to love her characters sometimes.

It was great to see things from Cash's side, and was great to see bits about his family and friends that were so not expected.

I am on tenterhooks waiting for the conclusion to this duet.

Gimme gimme gimme!

We meet Cash McGraw in Harley and Jackson book. (Hated you then) and I was always intrigued with his story. Being the son of Dyaln McGraw my first book husband I couldn't wait for it.

This story tugs at your heart, you get a better understanding of who Cash McGraw is, what drives him and how he thinks. He loves deeply, he loves hard. He's not perfect, he has his flaws but that's what makes him REAL. Cash is music, he breaths, eats and sleeps music.

Journey is not your typical 18yrs girl, she has an old soul and you get to see that as she grows up.

This is the first book in the Life of Debauchery duet and after that cliffhanger I need more.

***4,5 "Please don't cry for me!!!" stars***

IT'S LIVE!!!!

"Everything I was afraid of growing up, I've become." -Mairilyn Manson

I could never imagine that Cash Motherfuckin' McGraw could take more stars than my favorite Jackson Pierce, but you never know with Monica Robinson.
The truth is that i was having a beef toward Cash for multiple reasons and I was a little bit prejudiced of his book, but after everything that i witnissed in this book, his book, I might forgive him after all!!!
If you are new to the author, I'm sure that you're wondering what the hell I'm talking about, and even though i can assure you that this duet can be read as a "standalone", her characters from almost all of her books are interwined between them... They are in a way a big family that you are taking some pieces of them on the previous book and then you're craving for more...

"I'll always be here for you, Cash. We're family. Always. No matter what." -Harley

Well, this was Cash's story!!! And i mean it!!! This IS Cash's story!!!
We saw from the very beginning how music was running through him and was begging to get out in the world... We witnessed his struggles to find an outlet for what was his life!!!!
Music!!! Everything started and ended with music with Cash...
And he wanted to be somebody, someday....
And he succeed it to be at the top of the world...
But with what cost??? What had he lost in the way????

"I was Cash Motherfuckin' Mc Graw for my God given talent, and I never let anyone fuckin' forget it.
I was music.
Music was me.
We were one and the same.
I needed it like I needed air, like I needed water, like I needed a reason to live.
It was my home when I didn't have one."

Well, i don't really want to say much about this story...
Only that Cash proved his point and succeeded to be someone in the music industry, but he made so damn many mistakes throughout the way...
So many mistakes with his father, his family, Harley.... with the people that mattered to him and now, he is all alone, living a life of debauchery and because of certain guilts, he is destroying his life...

"Blown away with the man staring back at me. I didn't recognize him anymore and the truth was...
I hadn't in years."

And now, you will ask me!!! Where is the girl, ugh???
The truth is that Journey, Cash's Junie, didn't play a big part in here, but it was the right amount for what she had to do in the end...
She and Cash had a strange bond since the beginning, even though they were apart in age for twelve years!
Junie was always infatuated by Cash, by his music....
And i think that she came back into his life in the most pivotal moment...

"One day I'm gonna be grown just like you, and you're gonna be all mine."

"I love you. I love you a lot."
"Journey, you don't know what that means."
"Yes, I do. I know what it means. Just because I'm not grown, it doesn't mean I don't know how it feels."
"I'm twelve years older than you, and I don't even know what it means."
"Then that makes me even more sad for you...
I'm going to show you what love is, Cash McGraw! You'll see! I'm going to show you!"

Well, i didn't saw much from Junie, but I loved that girl!!!
I loved her from the moment that she was wearing diapers two duets before and i couldn't see her all grown up...
I don't believe that I'm saying it, but I loved Cash too!!!
The last chapters destroyed me!!!! In a way, i needed to take some answers of why he acted upon a certain way with Harley and honestly, he wrecked me....
I know that he took what he wished for.... Doing what he loved... Fame... Sex, drugs and rock and roll, baby!!!!

"Cash McGraw was my first crush. My first hero. The first guy to ever truly break my heart."

"The whole in my heart got bigger, the loneliness larger, the addiction stronger, and there was nothing I could do to stop it. I may have been worth millions, but in my eyes, in my mind, in every crevice of my body, I was nothing. An empty shell, a hollow person, a man dead from the inside out."

But still... This boy needs more of that!!!!
He needs redemption... He needs to make amends with the people that meant something great in his life... And he needs Junie in his life....
Honestly, i can not wait to see how this story will play out after all!!!
I just wish i didn't have to wait a month!!! I need this book NOW!!!!

"He doesn't live in the moment, Journey. He's too stuck in the past. But you, love. You're his pause."
"What does that mean?"
"You're his muse."
"How do you know?"
"How do you not? He's not sharing you... Yet he can't stay away from you. You, my love, are the inspiration."

...You were always cute as shit. But Christ, Junie. You're the inspiration behind every love song...

******************************************

"I don't know how to help him, how to save him, how to fix what was damaged inside of him...
My boy turned into a man, lost in a world I didn't understand. I needed to try. I had to help him before it was too late. I couldn't lose him again."

One of my top favorites of 2020!

If you have read the Love Hurts duet then you are probably hesitant to read Cash’s book. You probably hate him and feel like he doesn’t deserve a second chance. I kept thinking to myself, “there’s no way I will like him.” But let me tell you that I was wrong.

The Queen of Angst has done it again! I don’t know how she did it, but she made me fall for one of her most flawed and disliked heroes. She tethered me with her words and just like she made me hate then love Martinez and Noah, the same has happened with Cash.

Most of the story is told in his POV. We get to see where his head was at, and why he made those decisions that altered his life so drastically. I was expecting to dislike Cash, to be annoyed, but it was the opposite. I wanted to knock some sense into him at times, but I also wanted to hug him. I felt for him, I cried, I laughed and swooned.

Is he fully redeemed? Of course not. M is known for making her flawed characters suffer, grovel and redeem themselves before they get their HEA. Regardless, I am hooked and need more after that cliffy! Can’t wait for the conclusion of Cash and Journey’s duet!

If you’ve read the Pierced Hearts Duets then you know that Cash McGraw was on everyone’s sh*t list and were shocked at the turn of events. We were on pins and needles waiting to see just how this man was going to redeem himself in our eyes because the damage was already done and bridges were beyond burnt. This was a flawed character that had to deal with his own demons and when you add in a forbidden romance? Things were only going to get more complicated.

Rock star god, talented musician, loving son, former faithful friend, these are some of the things that some would describe Cash McGraw and they will be right. But he’s also deeply troubled, running away from his past, in denial, and self destructive to the point where he’s one reckless move away from a music tragedy if he’s not careful. But as far as music goes, that’s his heartbeat and he lives for the way it makes him feel and the chant of the crowd.

tumblr_nblgwthXJp1rw7wz1o1_500.gif

On top of the world in his own element, there is nothing that Cash McGraw could want right now or so he thinks. But when he sees a familiar pair of blue eyes that has haunted him and the guilt he’s felt about walking away from his loved ones, he knows that from that moment forward, life on the road will never be the same again because he’s now standing face to face with Journey Pierce.

I’ve read most of this author’s work and the one thing that I truly love about her is that when she gives you the angst, your heart will not be spared. She gives it to you and then some and you have no choice but to just sit back and let it happen. My only complaint about this book is that because I’ve read the previous books, this felt like a recap to me and I wanted more new content. I already knew what the fallout was and I wouldve liked if the author delved into the band life some more or give us Journey’s pov more. I didn’t feel the undeniable connection between the two of them towards the end so the cliffhanger did throw me for a loop.

With that being said, I’m very curious and anxious to see what’s going to happen in part two and I really hope that we’ll have more of Journey’s pov as well. If you love a tortured rock star hero with a forbidden romance, then this one is most definitely for you.

Our queen of angst did it again!

When I opened this book I knew I wouldn’t sleep til I finished it. This book has all the emotions and roller coaster ride. My head is spinning with all of the angst in it. I was so upset with Cash in Jackson and Harley’s book but reading Cash’s POV, my heart broke for him, over and over. I couldn’t help but to love Cash more and more.

This book is phenomenal and you will not be disappointed. This is Monica’s best book to date! I highly recommend this book! You will love Cash and Journey as much as I do. I can’t wait for the second book “Til the Last Lyric”

This book was such a great read! Once again, M took us on a rollercoaster of emotions. The story is told so eloquently, and so many puzzle pieces came together for me. If you’ve read Hated you then and Love you now, do many lose ends and cliffhangers will all come together in this story. I very much recommend this book. M. Stories just keep getting better and better and as I’ve said it before, she’s done it again! Got me hooked on a story that made me
Laugh, cry and fall in love with the characters! A must read for sure!

“Getting lost in the melody, it always provided me an escape from my reality. Music found me when no one else cared to look.”

Oh how I have waited to get my hands on Cash McGraw’s book and Monica delivered another amazing book. It takes a great author to make me lose myself inside a book and Monica does it every. single. time.

Cash has a passion for music and it fuels his soul. Determined to make career out of his passion, he leaves home and his family to make it on his own. Cash has demons that haunt him and he drowns himself in drugs, alcohol and rock n roll. Will he ever conquer his demons or will he be lost in the dark forever? From the First Verse is a must read and I cannot wait to get my hands on book two!

5 BREATHE STARS!! I kept telling myself to breathe all the way through this book. My poor heart has been squeezed, crushed and played with...M. Robinson likes to do that to us readers. Cash and Journey needs to tell you their story, so try to relax and hear them. I am still having a hard time breathing, I think I forgot how. I need book 2, right now.

From The First Verse takes us readers on one hell of devastatingly raw and heartbreaking journey, walking us step by step alongside Cash McGraw as he goes through a passage of self destruction and I’d even goes as far as saying self-loathing, there’s love, loss and heartache, beauty and ugliness, then just as there’s a glimmer of hope we’re thrown back into uncertainty as to what’s to come when it true style our Queen of angst leaves us desperately wanting more.

Cash is the most self-destructive character to date, he’s on par with Good O'l Boys favourite Austin taking the broken, bad boy persona to a whole new level. The book just flowed along effortlessly, filled with non-stop action and pinkie promises, Cash McGraw will worm his way under your skin and into your heart in this fantastically written first book from M. Robinson’s Life of Debauchery duet.

When I finally got this piece of perfection from Monica, I instantly wanted more!! Only because it's so easy to get lost in these worlds that Ms. Robinson creates and while the heartbreak that you see these characters go through is so immense that you forget you're reading about fictional characters!! Cash is definitely our Queen's most intricate & self destructive character to date. I know I absolutely HATED him in the Love Hurts Duet (Jackson and Harley's books) but before this book is over Cash very well may find himself redeemed in my eyes from the way he was previously, but honestly who knows. I love how Journey is telling her side of how things are unfolding as you read.
I can't count how many times I wanted to toss my kindle whenever I read an M. Robinson book. She invokes such strong emotions that you can't help but feel the pain, love and laugh along with the characters you're reading about!!
Bravo Monica!! You've officially broken me!

One of the best books of the year!

I’ve sat here gathering my thoughts on just what I should say about this outstanding read. I honestly don’t know that I can come up with the words that would even do this justice. I am absolutely in love with this.

We all know Cash. Wondered about him. Loved him. Hated him. With all the different feelings for this man, nothing will get you ready for this story. Several times I had to set it down just so I could cry. This man.....this beautiful man will break your heart, maybe I am to emotional because I cried half way through this incredible book. The next one can’t come fast enough. I will definitely read this many times over. I love Cash McGraw!

To the Author M. Robinson fans out there...THIS is the book you have been waiting for. A book that she will get you to love a character that (if you read the Love Hurts duet) you may have hated...like seriously - HATED.

Well, I might have been one of those people but she turned me around. She gave me the side off Cash that I just didn't get from the Love Hurts duet.

This book is a spin-off from her Love Hurts series but can be read without reading those first (M. Robinson always gives you all you need in all of her books to "catch" up if needed)

Cash hasn't lived the life his family and friends who have wanted for him but it's the life he wanted and I think that's an important part of his story.  He does what HE feels is necessary but honestly - there is some deep-seated hurt in this man and there is only one person who can help him heal.

This book will give you all the feels you expect from M. Robinson and the tears are threatened often while reading which is also something M. Robinson loves to hear!!

And I finished this book and knew that Cash would soon be on my list of book boyfriends!  Bring on book 2 in the duet - ASAP!

Incredible

From the First Verse. 5 stars
Again I am blown away and utterly speechless after M. Robinson’s story. I felt the gut punch from the first word. Emotionally strung out. Blissfully in a word zombie state. I reached the end totally unprepared for Cash and Journey and totally enamoured and swept away by them. This story is BIG. The impression it will leave cannot be measured. I urge everyone to buy this book, take a few days to read and reflect, because you are going to need to to recover (and keep lots of tissues on hand).

M. Robinson has provided yet another mind blowing plethora of captivation and stunning words to titillate the senses. And with the current condition of our world, it could not have come at a more perfect time. And the best thing is, there is more to come.
March 24, 2020
I will be the first to admit that I was hesitant with this book for reasons I won’t divulge because well you have to read, plain and simple! I kept seeing the sign ups and just couldn’t decide if I wanted to go down this road because well M knows how to throw curve balls, but I loved cash and I wanted his redemption! Now he had a long way to go still but my heart oh my heart is hurting and it’s in the worst kind of limbo right now! Nothing tears me open more like M’s books and I can’t even think straight!

Getting to dive into the darkness that lives inside Cash is very cathartic! Seeing his truth and living his pain is simply WOW! I can’t wait for next book and I seriously recommend this story for anyone who loves M. Robinson’s books or a new fan!

So this series is tied into the Love Hurts Duet. These first two books Hated You Then and Love You Now are an insane ride, very Mexican Telenovela meets reality show drama, but fun nonetheless. Cash McGraw the protagonist of From the First Verse was pretty much a sort of villain by then end of the Love Hurts series. So, now we have a chance to see some events happening from his point of view.

I do think this was more enjoyable than the first duet. The drama is more controlled, which in my opinion made the story more believable. The plot here is around Cash's love of music and his pursuit to be a rockstar. Split between many timelines we see him when he is a kid falling in love with his first guitar and writing his first lyrics, when he's 30 and one of the biggest stars in the music business but very jaded about what he's doing and a brief period when he's around 21.

The heroine is Journey, since she was a little kid she was always obsessed with Cash, he was her hero. After a few events separate them, Journey crosses path with Cash again when she is 18 and he is 30. So, this is definitely an age-gap sort of forbidden story.

The book ends on a cliffhanger, and really when the story just started to get really good... But for now, I have to say that I'm having fun with this.

I do think that the story got a bit repetitive at some point, especially for people who read the Love Hurts Duet, so I wanted more story and fewer flashbacks - but again, I'm curious to see where this is going.

5 *walking that line* Stars

OH MY HEART! You know the moment when you read the first book from a duet and you are left absolutely speechless and scared shitless for what’s to come….. Yep, that’s basically me in a nutshell.. If you need me I’ll be rocking myself in a corner.

About The Novel:

Usually at this time I would be telling you a bit about what this story is about. I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I tried to write what this first part of Cash and Journey’s story was all about... without giving away spoilers…. I found this task impossible, so I’m going to skip that part for now. Trust me when I say, this book is going to blow your mind either way.

My Thoughts:

In the past few years M. Robinson has quickly become one of my favorite authors. Not only does she write compelling stories but she steals your heart right along with it. Her characters immediately draw you in and capture your heart from the first moment you’re introduced. Angst is my greatest weakness, the more emotional the novel, the more I love it. M. Robinson is The Queen Of Angst!!!

If you all have read the Love Hurts Duet (Jackson & Harley’s story) I’m pretty sure I’m safe to assume the majority of readers had a love/hate relationship with Cash McGraw. I may just be one of a few when I say, I loved Cash McGraw from the moment he stepped into my life!!! What can I say, I’m a sucker for a man with a guitar…ask anyone and they’ll say that’s how the love of my life gained my attention. With a guitar and a song. I’ve always felt a familiarity with Cash's character. I honestly was Team Cash throughout that whole damn duet… I actually cried when Cash broke Harley’s heart… That was one of the only times I really hated this character.

Throughout From The First Verse my heart aches for Cash. I legit wanted to crawl into my kindle and throw my arms around this fictional boy. All he wanted was to be loved and accepted for who he is, not changed into the vision of a life others see for him. I have to say, I loved Cash’s stubborn streak and his no fucks to give attitude. I loved his ability to stand his ground and not back down from the way he sees his life. Living life and loving hard sometimes hurts you in the long run. Cash did everything he could to gain acceptance, and for a boy to never feel accepted for who he is on the inside, really hit me in the heartstrings.

Now onto Miss Journey. We all know Journey as the adorably booty shaking baby from the Pierced Hearts Duet, and the Love Hurts Duet. We’ve gotten sneak peeks of Cash and Journey’s adorable bond, but now it’s time to experience Journey and Cash’s relationship from the very beginning. I loved watching this relationship evolve from a boy playing a guitar for a baby girl, to a friendship, and then into something more. It sounds really odd saying it that way, but these two seriously melted my heart. I have to say, I Loved the sweetness that a young Journey brought to this novel, but what I loved most was the fierceness and sassy vibes an older more legal Journey brought to the table. What a spitfire. I can already assume what’s going to come to the conclusion!

Before I even opened Cash and Journey’s story I knew there was going to be a load of hardships and possibly a few tears. I can say with a grin on my face, I held in my emotions like a champ!! It’s always a mission to try to hold in my emotions when reading a novel by Mrs. Robinson. I had my doubts this mission would end in my favor. But after many scrunched up faces, and many moments of taking deep calming breaths, I found myself at the end with vindication in my eyes!!

With that being said, I’ve never feared a conclusion as much as I fear the conclusion to Cash and Journey’s story. I know there are going to be an endless supply of tears in my future…. Damn, and I thought I did so good with holding in my emotions during From The First Verse….. I literally ended this book with a few curse words. I threw my kindle on the floor…. And my kindle is one of my most treasured possessions…. Aside from my Johnny Cash albums.

M. Robinson is about to slay all of our hearts… if they haven’t already been slayed yet. Trust me when I say, you aren’t going to want to miss out on the Life Of Debauchery Duet!!

I know I have said it before, but I will say it again, " No one writes a book, like this QUEEN OF ANGST does." I connect with with each and every character, each and every book, like I never have. Granted, I do feel emotions from most books, but never like M. Robinson's books. The emotions she evoked from me from this enthralling story, leaves me in a blank space. I feel like there is no much going on in my head, but it's so hard to make sense of it all; it's hard to digest it all.

The depth that M. Robinson provoked from Cash is unheard of. The depths that she took his story to, leaves me feeling like my whole body is numb. I have never been left feeling so vulnerable by a Male Leads story and yet here I am, feeling just that after chucking my kindle across the room after finishing 'From The First Verse'. In 'From The First Verse, we receive so much back story of Cash that was needed. I have wondered and wondered, and I now have the answers I have been desperately seeking since previous books. There is so much passion and determination in this one, emotions that will leave you feeling reckless. The feeling of being misunderstood had me clutching my chest. There was was so much sincerity behind it. I could go on and on, but that is pointless in the grand scheme of things, because I know when it comes to what is next, that this author is going to blow my mind. This may just the start of Cash's journey, but I can not wait to see how the rest of his story unfolds.

From The First Verse will strike a chord with you right from the start and will take your heart on a hell of a journey. This book is raw, real and devastating and you won’t be able to let these characters go. You will feel such a melody of emotions from hope to heartache and loss to love that you won’t know where one emotion starts and the other stops. This story takes rockstar status to a whole other level and you will not want want to put this book down for a second. When I first met Cash, I hated him because he broke my heart, but then I fell for the man with the tortured soul who just wanted to be loved and understood. I would read this for the diary, the guitar pic, and the pinkie promise alone and it is action-packed with so much more than that. If we only knew how his Life of Debauchery was going to turn out, Cash McGraw stole my heart and makes me want to chase all his demons away!

There is a reason why Monica is dubbed the queen of angst, and holy shit, she goes above and beyond with Cash motherfucking McGraw. This book is full of pain, heartbreak, deep set anguish, and how the failings of a parent can shatter your self confidence and self worth and put you on a path of destruction.

If you've read Aiden and Jackson's duets, then you've seen the glimpses of Cash and the things he did, but he always seemed cold and callous, unlike the sweet, big hearted boy he used to be. But seeing all of this from his point of view? To see that he was trying his entire life to please someone who didn't understand his dream? To feel like such a failure because the one person he always looked up to never believed in him? That all guided his decisions and turned him into what he's now become: the face of rock and roll, all the while living up to the cliche of being a rockstar. But when he is reunited with his Junie, (which Journey will forever be referred to that way for my romance loving heart) the facade he's created for the past decade crumbles and he begins to yearn for all the things he destroyed. But can he come back from all the painful things he's done? Can he truly be redeemed? Only time will tell, and with that wicked cliffhanger, I'm hoping time hurries up!!! I NEED part two now!!!

**While you don't necessarily have to read Jackson's duet, I encourage you to do so before reading these books if you haven't already so you are properly and fully immersed in these characters.

**received an ARC of this book and these are my honest opinions!**

Although From the First Verse is the first book in a duet, it is a spin-off that takes you back to Oak Island, NC where M. Robinson has built a world of characters and stories that always leave you wanting more. The Life of Debauchery duet could be read as a stand alone series, but with the intertwined story lines and characters, it's so much MORE if you've read the other books in this world that she has created.

This duet will be Cash and Journey's story. Cash McGraw is Journey's first crush, her hero. From the time that she can walk and talk, he's her first love. While Cash leaves to become a rock star, Journey grows up and by the time that they next cross paths, everything will have changed.

I will admit that the last time that we saw Cash (in the Love Hurts duet), I did not like him. I was so disappointed in his actions and really couldn't see how this author could make me like this character. I should have known better. M. Robinson just has this way with building her characters. She can make you hate them one minute, love them the next. She'll have you laughing at their antics before breaking your heart into pieces with their actions. She's done this again with Cash McGraw, and I can't wait to see where the rest of the story will take this character that I now love.

I love Cash! My heart broke for him so many times. This book, like all this authors books, captivated me from the beginning until the end. Journey is an old soul that is only eighteen years old. I don’t want to give anything away to this book. I can’t wait for the next part of this story. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!

From the First Verse is the first in a Rock star, friends to lovers duet. In true M. Robinson style this book is loaded with emotion and angst. Cash McGraw and Journey's story is sweet and begins when journey is just a baby. We watch their relationship develop as journey is obsessed with Cash. Cash goes to find his fame & fortune and then the fun begins.... as always I'm greedy for book 2. 5*s for his beautiful book.
