The Hating Season

Rate this book
A new stand alone enemies-to-lovers romance from USA Today bestselling author K.A. Linde…

Court Kensington is a thorn in my side.

I’m hired to clean up his badboy image, which would’ve been easy if my life wasn’t falling apart.

First, I catch my movie star husband having an affair with his co-star. Then when I return to work, my job is at stake, because Court has gotten himself into trouble...again.

Instead of getting him back in line, I find myself falling for his charm. And into his bed. And against the wall. And, and, and…

Except Kensington charm shouldn’t work on me. Not when I’ve sworn to never ever sleep with a client.

I had good intentions.
I really did.
But we all know the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

OMG yes, give me all the angsty, forbidden, enemies to lovers stories! The Hating Season was addicting from start to finish. I loved this book so much!

Court Kensington is in need of a publicist after a complicated break up and Anna English is the girl for the job. She’s perfect at cleaning up anyones image and great at her job. She prides herself on staying professional, but after her husband cheats on her and she finds herself single, Court becomes a little bit harder to resist…

Court is definitely a charming guy. He comes off as a trouble maker, but he’s really a good guy with a big heart. I loved him. And English is a bit scorned after just being burned, but Court is the kind of guy she needs. What I loved most about these two was their banter and the build up between them. It kept me on my toes and kept me wanting more.

The Hating Season is narrated by Erin Mallon and Stephen Dexter and both of them did an incredible job. Erin is my favorite female narrator because she not only voices her female characters perfectly, but she does the male voice so great as well. I enjoyed listening to this audio lots and I definitely recommend listening to it.

Now that we’ve talked a little bit about this book, let's get into ‘The Breaking Season’ which is Camden and Katherine’s story and my most anticipated book for this summer. I am seriously DYING for their story. I started out disliking them both but with every book I see them in, I get more and more curious about their stories and dare I say I even find them a little likable and a lot intriguing. I just know Linde is going to knock it out of the park with that one!

Court and English’s story is one you will devour. It’s got the best kind of angst, gives you the feels, and is a delicious forbidden romance. This book was fantastic and I can’t wait to read more from this world!

Very good. This is actually a very enjoyable read. The story is full with politic in PR indrustry where everyone back stabing everyone. And everyone have problem needs to be fixed.

That is the wrold where the romance blossom between Anna and Court. Both have been burn by their past relationship and trying to trust again. A lot of miss communication and misunderstanding. Tabloid makes everything difficult for both of them to fall in love.

I do enjoy how the author portrays that world vividly. It is a brutal business. At the end I do enjoy this book very much. Can not wait for the other book in this series.

I received this book from Author, Wildfire Marketing Solutions in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

The Hating Season, is the second book in the Seasons series and it follows the lives of Court Kensington and Anna English.

I was first introduced to both characters in The Lying Season and I found them fascinating and I jumped at the opportunity to read their story. Based on what was revealed in the first book, I expected this installment to be an angsty read and it definitely delivered that and more.

Anna is a top-notch publicist hired by the mayoral candidate to effect damage control after her son, Court was caught up in a scandal involving his ex-girlfriend.  She is a no-nonsense person and takes crap from no one. She appeared to have the perfect life, but then it all came crashing down when she discovered her husband cheated on her.

Court always seem to find himself in some interesting situations. He appeared rich and entitled, and he didn’t care what anyone thought of him. To say he was not pleased, when he learnt that Anna was hired to clean up his image, would be an understatement.

I enjoyed getting to know both characters. I admired Anna’s strength. It couldn’t have been easy learning of her husband’s infidelity, but she handled it well. She held her ground and did not accept his sorry excuses.

There is more to Court than meets the eye, as Anna would learn while spending time in his company. If only she could stick to her rule of not getting involved with a client which proved difficult the more, she learned about Court.

Both Anna and Court were no strangers to having their hearts broken, but they dealt with their pain differently. Anna threw herself into her work, while Court partied, hence his need for a publicist. Watching these two push and pull was interesting. Strangely enough their actions did not perturb me, but I was quite intrigued to learn if Anna would cease finding reasons for why she should not get involve with Court.

Some readers may have an issue with Anna falling so quickly for Court despite loving her husband for the past five years.  I believe her love for her husband was not borne out of passion, but more from the fact that he presented a haven from the betrayals she had suffered in the past.  His betrayal made her realised she was in love with what she thought he represented rather than the man himself. Court provided her with what her husband never could.

I loved the pacing, which I thought was well balanced. I enjoyed spending time with the secondary characters. There was a particular couple who intrigued me, and whose story we will be getting next.

Conclusion/Recommendation

Overall, The Hating Season proved to be a sizzling enemies to lovers romance that kept me up late into the night.

I just love K.A. Linde so freaking much! She knows how to write the angst that steals my heart. This one wasn't SUPER angsty, but it had all the right tension right where I needed it. I loved reading about a world I know nothing about (politicians and publicists and Upper Eastside Playboys). I also love how Linde chooses to write strong, independent heroines. They're so sassy and awesome to read! Plus, Court Kensington (while I was FURIOUS at him for part of this book... big dummy) was just so flippin hot. I'm going to dream about this man's bare feet thanks to one particular scene LOL. A 5 star rec from me!

Disclaimer: I received an Advance Reader Copy at no cost from the publisher/author. All opinions in my review are my own.

This was such an entertaining enemies-to-lovers story with a flair of forbidden romance. Get ready for an angst-ridden story because this couple doles it out in spades.

I was really impressed with the storytelling. The writing style was so smooth and effortless. It was a truly beautiful narrative that really pulled me into the story. The plot of the story was riveting. I was so engrossed by the story and I couldn't put it down.

I liked the characters a lot. Both main characters, English and Court, had such endearing qualities that it would be hard not to like them. They both had such distinct personalities and were very realistic and relatable. They both had a lot of depth and character growth. I also really loved the cast of secondary characters. I haven't read any other books from this author yet but I definitely will. She writes the secondary characters into the story is such a way that the reader is itching to know more about them and experience their stories as well. I loved the build-up concerning the two main characters slated for the next book in this series as well as the other couples that already have their own stories. I also really loved the friendships in the story and the family representation. And while it doesn't really matter in the slightest since it doesn't impact the story, I have to add that I really disliked how the female lead character went by her last name. It was annoying.

I felt like the romance came on a little too strong a little too early in the story. I definitely liked them as a couple but I just didn't feel their romance in my bones. It felt like something was missing. There were also some things about the romance that I didn't find very convincing. Like the fact that English falls for Court so quickly after finding out that her husband of five years cheated on her. Falling out of love with her husband and falling in love with Court felt like it was all at the drop of a hat. It just didn't feel realistic to me.

Overall, this was an exciting and angsty story that also packed a lot of emotions. I loved the drama, the incredible cast of characters, and the rollercoaster ride of a plot. I can't wait for the next book in this series and I am excited to go back and read some of Linde's backlist titles.

ALL MY REVIEWS CAN BE FOUND ON MY BLOG: ABSTRACT BOOKS

'The hating Season' is the second book of the 'Seasons' Series by the best selling author K.A. Linde. Told in dual perspectives, get ready to meet Anna and Court!!

This was the second book I have read by this author and After reading 'The Hating Season' , this book quickly became my most anticipated !! Finally Anna's story is here. This book is an enemies to lovers trope and if you are into that , then by all means one click this one as it is a must read for all!!

The story starts with Anna returning to see her husband, where she gets to know about his affair. Furious and heartbroken , she decides to fly back to NY and focuses on her work. The next job she gets is to babysit Court Kensington , and to improve his wild bad boy image , so that his mother could win the election. She sees him as a burden and clearly Court is also not a big fan of hers.

The banter they both had , had me laughing so hard at times. I loved their chemistry and this bond they had. They both try to avoid eachother but soon the tension becomes too much and staying professional is a challenge for them. This was more of a forbidden romance trope and I absolutely loved it .

I can't wait to see whose story we will get to see next!! This book is recommended to all the contemporary romance lovers out there , who would like enemies to lovers trope and Forbidden romance!

I was so excited for this book and it did not disappoint. It was so good, it was unputdownable! These two were explosive together. Their story was exciting, steamy, angsty, emotional. It had it all - drama, heartbreak, excitement, backstabbing b*tches, amazing supportive friends... I can't get enough of this series and these characters.

Court was so hot and so much more than his money and image put out there. Anna was so wrong about him but she slowly got to see what he hid from the spotlight and how there was so much mroe to the man who was stealing her heart. We get to see a lot more of her and her past too, including of her relationship with her husband. That part of the story is really emotional for me, I hate cheating and getting to live that with her specially knowing that there was real love between the two ugh. Stardum is really messed up.

But anywho, it's not like I wanted her to stay with her husband, heck no. I was team Court all the way. He deserved the girl. Anna fought him a lot and I loved those scenes where he teased her and made her jealous, it was very entertaining and quite hot. Court is a whole meal ;) I want one for myself.

Once again, I'm even more excited for the next book because everytime Camden and Katherine are on scene they get me more curious about their relationship and marriage. With the bomb K.A. dropped on that sneek peak of the next book, I was shook and I need it stat.

Enemies-to-lovers is probably my favorite kind of romance. And yet, I didn't quite enjoyed this one. Mostly because both main characters are just getting out of a relationship. Also, the pace of the story was kind of slow, but there was something about the writing that just kept you reading.
Now, I will probably start Katherine's story... I'm hoping it will be better than this one.

First of all this is not my fav genre. Not keen on enemies to lovers or the girl going in to sort out bad boy PR.
But... This is sooo good.

The Hero Court is nothing like he is portrayed.
He is actually a sweetheart.

The heroine has a tough exterior bit is actually very vulnerable.

The other issue I have with this book is that you know when you read book 1 and the author drops hints about future books in the series and you can't wait to read a particular one, and the next book comes out but that's not the one you couldn't wait for.
So this book was a good suprise.

There are breadcrumbs dropped for future books in series.
Lots of references to other characters and couples.

No intimate scenes other than the Hero and heroine.
The heroine is with her husband in the prologue but it's when she finds out he cheated, but she does mention that they were I intimate when she arrived as they have a long distance relationship due to work. But no details.

The heroine thinks the Hero is a playboy but he isn't.

He was in the past but he changed when he had a serious relationship that went wrong and hasn't been with anyone since her.

When he messes up there is redemption.

No cheating by the Hero and heroine, though technically the heroine is not yet divorced when the Hero and heroine start things but her marriage is over and it's clear to all parties.
Dual POV.

HEA.

Teaser chapter for next book.

5⭐️

I've all the books in this series and technically this is the third because book one had a separate novella that was just released.

Although I enjoyed Lark and Sam's book—and it's probably too early to say given that Katherine and Camden's book is coming up in July, I could honestly say that this has been one of my favorite reads this year. Well, as far has the year had gone. An enemies to lovers romance is just my jam.

This series is interconnected with the Cruel trilogy. You don't have to read the trilogy to read this series but it does help in the introductions of the characters because they're all related in some way—especially Court because he is Penn's older brother and the rest of characters you'll come across as you read along are part of the "Crew."

Court was totally unexpected. This book made me realize that. I've always thought he was the King of Aš$hö£e$, but I actually like him more than Penn. Is that weird?

I really loved this book. There was so much excitement in the build-up leading to their ignition. There was just the right amount of push and pull, angst and banter. It's also as real as it gets—as real as I would imagine someone from the Upper East side would act or react. The pacing was great... the main and secondary characters were great... the storyline isn't something I haven't really read before but the emotions it invoked, the anger and the glee. It was also relatable—people using you to their advantage, being cheated on, the pressures coming from parents... grief... it has everything you'd want to read in a book.

I wish there was an epilogue like 5 years from the the last page... Ms. Linde, if you are reading this, will you make one please? I can't wait to read about Court proposing, Court becoming a husband and Court becoming a father.

Sometimes authors tend to forget that readers basically read to escape. So too much angst and push and pull can be hella frustrating and—draining. This book is just perfect. I'm sure not all of us feel the same, but I really did enjoy escaping to Anna and Court's world.

I definitely recommend it!

I LOVE these Upper East Side characters…

I’ve had my eye on Court Kensington since day one. Handsome with a bad boy reputation, there was a lot more to him then the tabloid headlines. Delving into the softness underneath meant this frenemies to lover story had all the luscious complications I could have wished for. Yes, this read as a standalone but I definitely recommend reading first the Cruel series and then The Lying Season before diving in. Why? Because the characters are bold and in your face, while their stories are drama and angst beyond compare…

Court was facing a rough time (of his own making) and, unexpectedly, so was English (hers being totally out of her control). What they had in common was English’s task of keeping him on the straight and narrow (aka out of jail) and his to keep pushing all her buttons… What they also shared were a couple of exes I loved to despise and, putting it altogether, a chaos they had to face head on, together. The situations ping ponged from one surprise to another and it made for a ‘can’t put down’ read. Be prepared for yelling and loving, laughter and pain and a love that made it more than worth it…

This group of friends is tied together through complicated relationships but, in the end, love and respect, and a healthy dose of sarcasm, keep them together. This story was all about Court and English but the tantalizing glimpses into Camden and Katherine have me waiting impatiently for their turn - I know it is going to be epic!

~ 5 Stars ~

Just like The Lying Season, I was so excited to read The Hating Season. I have been anxious to read Court and English’s story since I first met these characters. I am happy to say I wasn’t disappointed at all.

The Hating Season is a standalone novel that is a spin off from K.A. Linda’s Cruel Trilogy. After reading all these books, it is my recommendation to read them in order. Yes this book is a standalone, but I think you will appreciate the storyline and characters much more if you read these books in order. This book was both entertaining and sexy. I loved this story. I am normally not a huge fan of enemies to lovers stories, but this one worked out well for me. Maybe because I was so invested in these characters that I was sucked into their story right from the start!!! I had a hard time putting this book down.

In this book we follow Court Kensington and Anna English. Court is the older, more crazy brother of Penn (Hero in the Cruel Trilogy). He was just totally burned by his ex girlfriend and has kind of got a bad reputation. So his mother hires someone to come in and clean it up. In comes Anna English. Anna is Lark’s (heroine from The Lying Season) friend. Anna is happily married and living her best life….until she isn’t. Now just focused on cleaning up Court’s image….she starts to crack the whip. I loved Court and Anna’s dynamic…something about them just drew me in and I couldn’t help but root for them.

This is a fairly quick moving story, but it lacked for nothing. We got all the ups and downs and feelings we normally see in a K.A. Linde book. I thought the pace and flow of this book worked well. The storyline is well developed and was well written. This book isn’t as angsty or drama filled as the Cruel Trilogy was, but I am ok with that.

I enjoyed seeing some of the Crew in this book, although I would’ve liked seeing more of Penn and Natalie in this book. I have to admit I am kind of scared for Katherine’s book. I haven’t liked her much throughout this series of stories and I am not sure she is redeemable at this point. I guess I’ll have to wait and see.

If you are a fan of an enemies to lovers romance story, then this is one you will want to read. This is a book that should be on everyone’s TBR list!!!

Definitely my fav so far! I loved Court and Anna together, their chemistry was off the charts and the story was the good balance of steam, feels and drama. I really like how this couple brought out the best in each other, they have grown from their insecurities and pushed past each other's walls.

Again, the new friend group is giving me life, I'm so happy author decided to ditch the original "crew" and focus on these characters instead, but they are much more interesting together.

Honestly, I wish I could add more, but at the end of the end, it was good, but not fabulous. BUT I did have fun, lots of it. And nothing major to rant about this time, ha! (and that's a first in days/weeks 😅)

Now, onto KatherinexCamden book, the angst is gonna hit hard with that one, I can feel it!

Quick Summary: A phoenix rising romance

My Review: Cruel Desire by K.A. Linde is part 5 of the Cruel series. It features the relationship between a publicist from California and one of New York's most elite figures.

About the Book: Court Kensington and Anna English had a strictly business relationship. She was hired to help rehabilitate his reputation. Never had they crossed the professional line...until they did. What started out as a one-time affair led to something deeper. When a seeming betrayal rocked the couple, what they had started was quickly headed towards an ending. Could they ever find their way back to each other?

My Final Say: This couple!

5-stars isn’t enough for The Hating Season.

We’ve got to know Court as the spoiled, rich, Upper East Side playboy. He doesn’t give any thoughts to the women he sleeps with, the alcohol he drinks, or what people think about him.

Now, let’s throw in a PR agent that is supposed keep him out of trouble, out of the spotlight, and to help him put on a good front for his mothers re-election campaign.

Enter, English, Court Kensington’s worst nightmare or so he thinks. English is here for one thing and only one thing, but she gets way more than she bargained for with Court. Before long they are butting heads, fighting, and.......

Love, Love, the real Court that we get to know and how English handles him.

Oh God, I'm in love with Court. That's it, that's all I can say. I love him, he's mine, back off Anna! He's hot, sexy, gorgeous, has a great heart aaaaand he's a book nerd aaaand he loves Harry Potter!!!!!!!!!!!! I. CAN'T. EVEN. BREATHE.

Loved Court, Loved English (yes, Anna) and loved their story. Couldn't put it down, read it in one sitting and can't wait for Katherine & Camden's story!

Coherent review coming soon.

UPDATED & COHERENT REVIEW

Recognition. He saw me. And for the first time… he was letting me see him, too. Not the Court Kensington he revealed to the public. The one that I’d read about. But the real person under that Upper East Side facade. The youth lacrosse coach, the book nerd, the gentleman.

Court Kensington is my new book boyfriend. He's hot, sexy, charming, has a big heart and he's so much more than the cocky bad boy image he hides behind. There's so many layers to Court... I loved how he slowly bared his soul to Anna. Honestly, he couldn't be more perfect!
Court gets involved in a scandal with his ex that messes up his reputation and because his mother is in the middle of a reelection campaign, she decides to hire a publicist to clean up his mess. Court doesn't want to be controlled, so he hates Anna English, the publicist, at first sight. Anna had a perfect relationship with her husband until everything blows up. Now, she has to deal with her life falling apart while she needs to clean up Court's playboy image and keep him from messing up. But the surprising hardest part about it all is to keep herself from breaking her number one rule: never sleep with a client.
The sparks between this two, the tension, the angst, the lust, the push and pull were absolutely amazing. I couldn't stop reading it! I never thought Court would be one of my favorite characters in this series, I honestly didn't see that coming, but he definitely is my top #1 after reading this book. I also loved Anna, her passion for her job, her strength, she was a queen in the way she handled her ex husband and I admired her through the whole book. I think she is one of the strongest female characters that Linde ever wrote and I loved her layers too.
Court and Anna together are complicated, intense, hot, sizzling, surprising and so, so sweet. I loved their story to pieces and I wasn't expecting to love this two so hard. I think K.A. Linde did an amazing job with these characters and this Upper East Side world.
The Hating Season is a captivating,  fast-paced, intriguing, angsty, steamy, well written enemies to lovers romance with remarkable characters set in a Upper East Side World when nothing is exactly what it seems. I highly recommend this series and I'm dying to read the next book: Katherine & Camden's story!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Hating Season is an enemies-to-lovers romance full of angst, forbidden love and a tight knit group of friends. It enthralled me from the very beginning and left me wanting more when it ended.

Anna English, a celebrity publicist has been hired to clean up Court Kensington’s bad boy image and he has been her most challenging client yet. After finding her husband has cheated on her with his co-star, Anna is filled with anger, heartbreak and grief, and these swirling emotions lead her straight into Court’s arms.

Court has been living behind the façade of playboy and troubled bachelor but that is definitely not who he is. I couldn’t help but adore his soft and affectionate side, whilst getting to know his slightly dorky side and his alpha commanding side.

I loved Anna, she is literally the epitome of a strong female heroine. Not only did she hold her self worth and respect at a high standard, she was also headstrong, intelligent and completely independent.

Whilst Court and Anna are first drawn together by attraction and lust, I loved seeing their friendship grow. They complemented and challenged one another, whilst allowing each other to be comfortable and themselves together.

Ahhh, I am sooo excited for Camden and Katherine’s story. There is so much mystery and secrets surrounding their relationship and the little glimpses that were dropped in this book is driving me wild with anticipation.

The Hating Season is a contemporary romance full of angst, drama and a frowned upon romance. It is a complete standalone, however, I would highly recommend reading these books in order to get the best and all-around full story. The Hating Season is part of a series, The Seasons, but it is a spin-off of Linde's Cruel Trilogy.

Court Kensington needs to have his image cleaned up after he had a rather unfortunate and complicated breakup. It's not only for his own self-image but also because his mother is running for re-election and doesn't need to be adding additional stress.

Anna English is one of the best publicist's for Hollywood's elite in LA. However, being a publicist for a social elite in New York is a whole other area. There is a reason that Anna excels at what she does - she doesn't let any client get under her skin or under her in bed.

But now Anna finds herself being thrust into the spotlight with her movie star husband cheating on her and the paparazzi popping up and printing pictures and stories that fit their agenda. And Court has found himself in more deep water just weeks before the election.

However, Anna and Court find themselves needing one another for far more reasons than business. As much as Anna thinks she can resist the Kensington charm, she finds herself seeing another side of Court that makes it much harder than she thought.

I really, really enjoyed this story. It has all the angst, drama and sexy times that I love from Linde. We get to see the rest of the crew too in here and see where things are with all of them, but it never detracts from the story. Linde does a great job of keeping things entertaining, steam and moving at the right pace. I also love that she keeps readers on their toes about two more members of the crew that are coming up in the next book.

Another great book from the Upper East Side Crew and I am looking forward to Camden and Katherine's story.

So, so good!

I patiently waited for this story and it did not disappoint!!
The chemistry between Court and English vibrates off the pages for me. It was so refreshing to see another side of Court; one he didn’t let anyone else see. And English...man, English was a #BossBitch 🙌🏼

Then K.A. Linde goes and throws in a little sneak peek of The Breaking Season and I. About. Died!!! Y’all I screamed with excitement over that little teaser and now the wait will be brutal.

K.A. Linde knows how to leave you drooling for more!! These Upper Eastsiders are addicting and I am here for their drama

The Hating Season is the second book in the Season series and brings a story with a touch of forbidden romance and enemies for lovers that kept me glued to the pages until the end.

Court appears to be that typical bad boy, but page by page we discover the real Court, the one behind the facade and it is impossible not to fall in love with him. I loved it. And Anna is not far behind, she shows herself to be an independent person, who recently had her heart broken and did not expect to develop feelings for Court. Their relationship is complicated and sweet at the same time, I loved seeing the dialogues between them and building their relationship. Together they were just right for each other.

Their story is cute and I found the level of drama and anguish here light, which I appreciated. Here we also get a glimpse of the characters from the third book in this series and let me say that I’m absolutely curious about the story of Camden and Katherine’s since they were introduced. So let the third book in this series come so I can see what the author has in store for these characters and hoping it will be as good as this book.

I have enjoyed this book so much!!
I loved how the book was organised and the titles for each part!
English is a strong, determined and driven heroine who always abides by her one and only rule- NEVER GET INVOLVED WITH A CLIENT. She’s planning to get divorced and get a fresh start in NY.
However, she has her hands full when she’s given the responsibility to look after Court Kensington so that he doesn’t compromise his mum’s campaign- playboy, party animal...

When they are both in the same rooms, you can feel the tension and the sparks!!
They love to hate each other and they live to push each other buttons.

English has lost faith in love and men , however the more she spends time with Court ... the more she realises that You should never judge a book by its cover ... who is Court really? Can she trust him?

Can she yield to temptation without putting her job at risk?
Will Court stay out of trouble?

The secondary characters are all likeable and intrigued me!! But CAMDEN.... I NEED HIS STORY NOW!!

I had so much fun reading this book. I enjoy this world. It’s got a little bit of a Gossip Girl vibe. The heroine is strong and independent. The hero made me swoon constantly. You never know what is going to happen. The good, the bad, or the ugly could pop out at anytime. I’m invested in these characters. I need the next book ASAP. Every crumb we get about them, just makes me hungrier for their story.

I voluntarily read an early copy.

Its pretty hot in some places but mostly meh

The Hating Seasons start with a major punch with Anna finding out his hot husband Josh is cheating on her. Then she take a job babysitting Court.

Meh this book give a lot of preview towards Kamden and Katherine which I been crazy about from day one. Probably thats why I am not so into Court and Anna

Anna comes home from finding out her husband has cheated on her, and the last thing she needs in her life is to have to play fixer for her most obnoxious client - bad boy troublemaker, Court, the mayor's son, and pain in her ass. Not only does she not need to have to fix his latest screwup, but she also doesn't need an inconvenient attraction to him. Damn, this woman just cannot get catch a break!

Court is a screwup for sure, but his attraction to, and feelings for, Anna, could be his redemption, if she'd give into the feelings, and start trusting him...

As enemies to lovers go, The Hating Season is top notch. The line between hate and love is a thin one, and not every author can toe that line without going over the top, but K.A. Linde toed that line perfectly. There's a touch of angst, witty, snarky barbs, serious chemistry, and Court and English are perfect together. Now I'm waiting very anxiously for Katherine and Camden's arranged marriage story, The Breaking Season.

The Hating Season is the second book of the Seasons series, and it's about Court and English. They also were in Book 1, although I haven't read that one but I plan on doing so once I have more time. What can I say? K.A. Linde is one of my favorite contemporary romance authors. She's rarely disappointed me with her romances, so I was sure I would like this one. It did have moments where I wasn't fully convinced at the beginning, but after the first part it got better.

The main female character is Anna, that everyone know as English, her surname. She's a famous LA publicist and she's married with a hot Hollywood actor. While visiting her husband on set, she discovers that he cheated on her with his co-star and she gets back to New York to distract herself with work. She's independent and strong and tries not to let her emotions get the better of her despite the situation. I liked that she didn't let her husband's betrayal got to her, but at some point her rage and feelings caught up with her life and she had to face them. At least her husband wasn't an ass and he owned up to what he did.

To further complicate Anna's emotions that she rarely shows, there is Court. Court is the son of the future mayor of New York and her client. His mother is running in the elections so she hired English to give Court a better image and help her gain voters. Court always puts himself in danger and he seems like he doesn't have a care in the world and always does as he pleases and lives a life of excess. But there is more to Court than meets the eye, and he, like Anna, has had his trust broken by people he thought he loved. He's attracted to English but at the same time he hates that she's like his babysitter, always controlling that he doesn't get into trouble.

Court and English were interesting to watch and had some issues that I could relate to. At first I thought that their relationship was going too fast, but thankfully, the pace got more believable after the 25% mark and I liked how things developed and how both of them had to face their prejudices head on. Because this story shows that even if the public paints a person in a light, it doesn't mean that they're right. In fact these characters show that they had to hide their true self to keep it from the public and to keep something of theirs for the eyes of the people they care only.

I am always up for an Upper East Side story with wealthy people, and next in the series will be about Camden and Katherine. We had glimpses of them in this book, since Camden is Court's best friend, and they got me intrigued. I'll be waiting!
