4.5 stars for the angst the annoyance and the frustrations. I’ll have to say this, but I think this is my second book by this author and I’m actually pleased that this one really gave me the feels.
What to expect from this story is about two people that are brought together by an arranged marriage, but be prepared for Luka and Eden for what you would expect is not love and flowers but secrets, lies, I call it cheating, manipulations and not being able to trust. For me, I think, Luka was hands down an @$$ cause for what he did to unravel secrets really made me dislike him even if he redeemed himself is not the way to go about. As for Eden, she was someone that wore her heart on her sleeves and at times I loved her and at times felt annoyed but she had an amazing bodyguard and even her family was awesome and Luka’s uncle too but I can’t speak for his sister and mum.

Downfall: An Enemies-to-Lovers Romance (Kingdoms of Sin Book 1) Kindle Edition
From bestselling author, Willow Aster, comes an enemies-to-lovers royal romance--an arranged marriage with all the angst and feels...
I was naïve to think my marriage to Luka Catano might work.
I was infatuated with him from afar…
Until I met him.
He loved the challenge of his next conquest, anyone would do...
Except me.
A wife was never something he wanted. Torturous was not a strong enough word to describe how I felt when I was in a room with Luka. Besides hating nearly every word that came out of his mouth, I also drowned with lust every time I looked at him. At times I thought he might feel the same. But nothing prepared me for what his family would make me become.
Revised Edition 4/24/21 No cheating, guaranteed HEA romance

Unfortunately it took me a while to get into this story. I did not connect with the hero and found him and his motives to be difficult to understand . I am also not a fan of cheating which also made this book difficult for me to engage with.

Downfall; Book 1 of Kingdoms of Sin Series
By Willow Aster.
This is a young teen romance novel.
Our two main characters are Prince Luka Catonia of Niaps, and Princess Eden Safrin of Farrow.
As with all royal born children, they are betrothed and forced into marriage before they really got to know each other.
Eden is a well thought out character. She’s warm, loving and loyal, strong and determined. Luka is a womaniser, but he hadn’t thought he would or could fall in love with his wife, a woman he was forced to marry. He has a touch of Men Behaving Badly. With his faults, he is a likeable A Hole.
Taken from her loving and tight knit family, Eden is suddenly thrusted in to a family of piranhas.
As Luka and Eden finally find a mutual balance, and take the tentative steps of becoming a unified married couple, tragedy strikes, and she flies home with Luka besides her. But all isn’t as it seems. Admits the betrayal, attempted murder, skullduggery, suspense and lies, can Eden trust Luka?
Keep the tissues close ladies.
I loved this book, even though it’s a slow burn, Willow Aster keeps the reader well entertained in Downfall.

Downfall by Willow Aster is the first book in her Kingdoms of Sin series. This story can be said to be an enemies-to-lovers and arranged marriage story. The story revolves around the not so typical relationship of Luka and Eden who don't have an instant connection or true love but steamy feelings brought through lies and mystery and seduction. This relationship is built on cheating and hate but somehow it had me rooting for Luka the ass and Eden the nieve 'little girl'.
This book surprised me because I loved it so much that I couldn't wait before starting the next instalment of the series. I was hooked from the beginning and addicted to the extraordinary exploration of emotions and detailed heartbreak that all relationships explore throughout the formation.

Downfall by Willow Aster is the first book in her Kingdoms of Sin series. Told from Edens POV, this story is part bully part arranged marriage and a whole ton of angst and drama. I was hooked from the on set. The feelings this story evokes. The frustration with the characters. So well done. Luka was an absolute jerk for a large portion of the book but he kept having small redeemable moments that made you overlook his bad behavior... only to be a jerk all over again. With some deep-seated plots laced into this story it’s important, I think, to read this series in order. Well paced and well written I will definitely be reading more from this author. Enjoy!

Prepare to be wowed by masterful storytelling!

Whatever you think you expect to find in this book, forget it and prepare to be wowed by masterful storytelling! Sex, secrets & scandal - it's all here!
Excited and prepared to do her duty and marry for the good of her country, Eden Safrin is shocked to find out that her husband-to-be is not the man her fantasies created. He is careless, unkind and cold, except for the flashes of heat she glimpses in his eyes from time to time whenever he looks at her. Yet, even with his hot-and-cold behaviour, she can't seem to stay away from him.
"Sometimes, we love, but it's to our detriment."
Just when things start looking better, Luka & Eden realise that there are more machinations at work behind their relationship than they ever could have imagined. So many people want them together, but at what price?
I felt Eden's initial hope and later, frustration and pain when she realised that life wasn't working out quite the way she planned. True love forgives a multitude of wrongs, though, and she finds that out soon enough.
"Love breaks you apart and puts you back together."
Eden does things that I probably would never do, but I rather enjoyed this first installment of the Kingdoms of Sin series, and as a first-time reader of Willow Aster, I must say I am impressed and definitely looking forward to more.

Sinfully Addictive

This is unlike other books written by Willow and yet I loved it. She has a way of creating characters and world-building, which drew me in.
I didn't want to put it down and read it in one sitting. Perfectly good use of my Saturday.
Luka, love to hate is a strong definition but it’s true. He is a real piece of work. There were times I wanted to strangle the boy. His character is such a contradiction, hot one moment then cold the next.
But bravo to Eden who despite all the trials and tribulations of adhering to her royal obligations. She remained true to herself, her strengths even in her weakened state, were still very becoming of her. And like me, you'll find it hard not to resonate with her.
Although this is part of a series, Downfall is a stand-alone and doesn't end on a cliff-hanger.
I can't wait for Exposed.

The book had so much promise!! I was waiting for the hero to redeem himself and become worthy of her. Instead, he’s mean and nasty. She’s a doormat of basically doesn’t eat the whole book. Then the hero cheats on the heroine a number of times. When it’s all revealed, she takes me back right away!!! I can’t believe people are giving this 5stars! How do you condone his behaviour?!

An Deceptively Beautiful Royal World & Its Royals
Reviewed in the United States on 19 October 2019Verified Purchase
Because I’m not new to Willow Aster’s storytelling, I prepared myself for the angst and the journey that my emotions would take as everything unfolded in her newest release DOWNFALL, but regardless of that preparation, my feelings were still all over the place, and like Aster’s heroine, Princess Eden Safrin, I felt confused, disbelieving, and so damn angry about the position she was put in to help her country and her family’s reign, and those negative emotions never dissipated because the way that Luka Catano, her husband, treated her, both before and after they were married, was reprehensible and I never trusted a word out of his mouth, which made it extremely difficult to see past his words and actions, despite the fact that it was clear that Eden and Luka shared undeniable chemistry…too bad most of the time that doesn’t translate into love, especially with a man whose life is dictated by his father’s rule and his family’s best interest.
I’ll be honest…I thought that Eden was a little too innocent…a little too naive; a girl with no backbone simply because she was never given the opportunity to gain one, kept away from society and from her peers, but while I would have liked to see her not runaway and hide so much, the fact that she stood up for herself, attempted to guard her heart from Luka, pulled back when understood some painful truths made me respect her and hurt for her due to the no-win situation she seemed to be in for much of the story.
I didn’t like Luka Catano for a good majority of the story. He seemed like an overprivileged manwhore who found nothing wrong with his callous words and actions or the pain he caused his fiancee/wife. I struggled to find any redeeming qualities in him, which made it difficult to feel like he was what was best for Eden. I do believe that the reason by disdain for Luca overpowered another emotions is because readers saw everything through Eden’s eyes and because her pain and heartache resonated from the pages, I didn’t want anything to do with the person responsible for her mistreatment.
In some ways, it was almost too easy for me to get lost in the angst because of the amount present in the text, and because of the way the story unfolded, it was difficult to see beneath the antics and truly understand who these characters are at their core, especially Luka. There are very few scenes throughout the story line where he doesn’t say or do things that do not paint him in a good light, so buying into a lasting connection between Eden and Luka, when so much of their time together was anything but harmonious made it a bit unbelievable.
I know my review does not paint DOWNFALL in a very positive light, but I will say that the writing was spectacular; the contemporary royal world that Willow Aster crafted is a deceptively beautiful environment - one of secrets and lies, heartache and loss - one that has a menagerie of heroes and villains, of helpers and deceivers, and attempting to figure out who is whom definitely made me invested in the story, even though I struggled with the would be hero and heroine’s relationship.
