Tyler & Gemma #1

Keeping You Away

Rate this book
The last time I saw my first love was twelve years ago. We fell hard and fast, but it didn’t stop me from leaving.

I never expected to see her again, but when I move back to my small hometown, there’s no avoiding it—especially since her dad’s my new boss.

The more time we spend together, the more I want a second chance to be the man she deserves. As old sparks resurface, we grow closer. Though she denies she feels the same, I notice the way her body reacts when I’m near.

Gemma isn’t mine—yet—but I’m willing to risk everything for her.

KEEPING YOU AWAY is book 1 in the Tyler & Gemma duet and must be read first.

Keeping You Away is a best friend's brother/second chance romance that had me captivated from start to finish. This is one of those books you won't want to put down. I can't wait to get to the second part!

Tyler and Gemma started off as friends and pen pals when Gemma was still in high school and Tyler was in the military. Through the 4 years Tyler was enlisted, they got to know each other through those letters and fell for each other. When he came home, they spend one magical summer together before everything changed. The majority of this book takes place twelve years after that summer.

Tyler is back in town and gets a job at the local garage, where Gemma's dad is her boss. She's also the office manager there. And Gemma is engaged. Yeah, it's a bit angsty, but I loved waiting to see where things would go with Tyler and Gemma. I really liked Tyler, Gemma though- I was frustrated with her at times. I understand why she made some of the choices, she did, but there were moments I wanted to scream at her.

I enjoyed listening to the audiobook of Keeping You Away and especially loved the male narrator's (Tor Thom) voicing of Tyler. This one ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, but it's nothing too awful. Definitely makes me want to pick up book 2 ASAP!

Did you read Liam and Maddie's duet? Do you remember Tyler? Did you fall in love with him like I did? If you answered yes to any or all of these 3 questions, then you'll be super happy to know that his story is here!!!

I love that we got to see Tyler reunite with Liam and Maddie in the first chapter. Tyler and Maddie's friendship cracks me up and warms my heart at the same time. I love the bond they have. We also get to hear from these two a lot throughout the book and I love that. I love that although they now live far away from each other, they keep in touch often and are always there for each other. I'm kind of really hoping Liam and Maddie visit Tyler soon so Maddie can meet Gemma and Tyler's sister, I feel like they'd be instant friends and it'd be super entertaining to see them all together.

I also love the letters omg. I love that we not only got to see a little of past Gemma and Tyler in the prologue but we also get to read some of the letters these two exchanged while Tyler was in the military, it's such a nice touch to the story and it really builds the bond they created years ago.

Tyler and Gemma, as any second chance romance where there is a third person in the picture, were very frustrating. I mean I loved watching them reconnect, reminisce, get over the awkwardness and try not to take their 'friendship' too far. It was fun to see them try to deny their connection and chemistry but also finding a way to each other all the time, specially when something was wrong. As has been stated by me many times, I loveeee Tyler. I fell in love with him in Liam and Maddie's story and I was dying for his story. It's exactly like I thought it was gonna be frustrating, a slow burn that is always simmering and sometimes blows up but it was also so much more. I feel like Tyler is there to show Gemma what a relationship should and shouldn't be about and I truly hope she opens her eyes soon, or more, does something about what she's been seeing. For me, that has been the most frustrating thing about this book. Gemma's relationship with her fiancé, they are so different. There are so many things wrong with their dynamic and all the new red flags that he's giving her and all her doubts and still she just doesn't know what to do. Girl, the universe is giving you all the clues to make the right decision. Just make it!

Meanwhile Gemma is in this mess of a relationship, Tyler finally gets his chance at a possible revenge agains Victoria but this opportunity is gonna put him on her map again and we've all seen how vicious she can get. I'm freaking scared for him and what's gonna happen after how this book ended. I feel like a partnership is about to be born and make Gemma and Tyler's lives hell. I'm scare but I also can't wait to see how these two will get out of all this mess.

I know the Ex-Con series is currently only two duets and from this book we already know who the second couple will be and honestly gosh it's gonna be so good gah. But I also really REALLY hope Tyler's sister gets her own book. She's amazing and fun and so anti-relatiosnhips that her book would be amazing.

Keeping You Away is part one of Tyler and Gemma's story and it's one of reconnection with the world, family, old friends and past loves. It's also a story about rediscovery of one self and the people you once left behind and now are getting to know again. These two will give you all that slow burning goodness, the longing that comes with reminiscing about old times and that feeling of not knowing what to do, how to act now that the one that got away is back in your life. Tyler and Gemma were made for each other, I'm excited to see how their find their back into each other's arms.

Kennedy Fox bring the best of suspense, angst, swoon and hotness in Keeping You Away. Tyler and Gemma's heartaching journey ripped my heart out. And at the same time the explosive storyline kept me on the edge. The writing just blew me away!

Tyler came out of prison after five years and decided to set his roots down in his home town. He was framed by the evil mafia princess Victoria O'Leary after he helped his best friends Liam and Maddie to escape her clutches. Now he needs a new start. But someone important from his past is there. Gemma. The only girl he ever loved. The girl whose heart he broke. The girl who is now a beautiful woman and engaged to a rich man. The girl whose father gave him a job despite his ex convict reputation.

So Kennedy Fox excel at few things and they unleashed their genius in full force. Bringing small town quirk, warmth and sweetness. Writing epic starcrossed couple. And creating a simple yet complicated storyline that will hook you from first page. Tyler was one of my favourite character from their previous books. And I desperately want a happily ever after for him. He had a tough life and he has shaped himself into a great man. Chivalrous. Charming. Protective. Hard working. Loyal. Honest. Ready to endanger himself for his friends and family. He made my heart and soul melt instantly! My heart breaks for him as he has to suffer silently to see Gemma with another undeserving man. He is still dealing with pain and anger from his unfair imprisonment. Gemma is such an amazing woman. Oh I feel all her doubts, fears, hesitation and heartache perfectly. She is torn between her responsibilities and her feelings.

You can expect all the angst to shred your heart! The back and forth moments, the almost there kisses, the hot and cold excitement- I was biting my nails and just wanted the answers. They have scorching hot chemistry and unresolved feelings. And the tension was so thick and terrifying! They try to resist the magnetic pull but it comes back to hurt and haunt them every single time. I positively hate Gemma's fiance and I just need him out of the picture. But Kennedy Fox left me at that dangerous and cruel cliffhanger. I should be used to those punches but they still break me!

Keeping You Away by Kennedy Fox is the special kind of sexy and intense romance that I crave from them! And they didn't disappoint me at all. Another must read romance from Kennedy Fox.

This story packs a punch. I think for me it was the circumstances from the past more than what was happening in the here and now, but also because the here and now is just the beginning of their story. As it goes with most duets, the first book tends to lay the foundation down for the real story/journey that will happen in the second half. If you’re a fan of this author duet, then you probably remember Tyler from the Always Mine/Yours duet that released earlier this year. I’m a fan LOL so I remember. The shared history that Tyler and Gemma have made me emotional. I feel it’s a poignant history and these ladies unfolded this story so far, very well. I wanted it to keep going. I was upset we actually had to stop and pause and even more wait, WHAT? at the pause/end of this installment! I mean …….

I’ve been a fan of this author duo for quite a while. There are a bunch of their books that don’t have reviews by me but that’s only because when I put just my reader cap on and not my blogger cap, I tend to get lost in just reading and forget to review LOL So I’ve read a ton of their work and I’m comfortable saying these ladies are always a good investment of your time! #trust

Keeping You Away is Book 1 of Tyler and Gemma’s Duet. It’s a slow-burn sister’s best friend/second chance romance with all the small town vibes. Tyler enlisted in the Army right after high school graduation. During his deployment his little sister’s best friend, Gemma, began writing him letters. Their relationship gradually developed from friendship to more. Tyler and Gemma began dating once he returned home from his tour. They spent three months together before Tyler left. He felt there was more out there for him than his his small hometown in Alabama had to offer. He asked Gemma to go with him but understood when she didn’t feel as though she could leave her friends and family behind, so they went their separate ways.

Fast forward 12 years later and Tyler is released from prison after serving a 5 year sentence for a crime he was framed for. He ends up back in his hometown working for Gemma’s father (and also with Gemma.) Knowing that Gemma is engaged to another man, Tyler tries to distance himself from Gemma. Despite their best efforts, they continue to be drawn together. Tyler and Gemma never really truly moved on from each other. Throughout this, there is tension growing in Gemma and her fiancé’s relationship. The more Robert continues to pressure Gemma to move in together and to move up the wedding date the more withdrawn she becomes and the more Gemma starts to think their engagement might be a mistake.

While Tyler and Gemma’s chemistry grows and Gemma’s relationship with her fiancé seems to diminish, Tyler’s past starts to resurface—putting himself and possibly Gemma in danger. The book ends just as Tyler’s past and present collide. Yes, this book ends in a cliffy...but book 2 is already available for your reading/listening pleasure so you don’t have to wait to find out what happens.

I’m excited to see how Tyler handles his past threatening his (possible) future while hoping that Gemma comes to her senses regarding her relationship with her fiancé. Overall, another great read from Kennedy Fox. While this is a little bit different than the Bishop Brothers and Circle B Ranch books I’ve previously read/listened to by them, I was hooked from the beginning all the same. Same small town charm with banter, heat, and secondary characters you come to love that is typically expected from the duo, just with a little suspense thrown in. I’ve yet to read/listen to a book written by them that I haven’t enjoyed.

Lia Langolia and Tor Thom did an excellent job narrating as Tyler and Gemma. Tor’s voice was gruff and gravelly, just as I imagined Tyler’s voice to be in my head. Lia had just enough of a hint of southern accent to be perfect as Gemma (who is an Alabama native).

This is going to be a shorter review because I’m kind of upset at myself. I didn’t realize this wasn’t a standalone book and I don’t do cliffhanger romances. So I have to give this three stars solely based off of what person tropes.

I think this plot was great, I liked the character development and I liked the romance. There wasn’t a ton between the two, but there was enough to keep me enjoyed.

I wish I would’ve read more reviews, I can’t stand cliffhangers. It states it’s a duet so I should’ve known but I’m dumb apparently lol

Still love Kennedy Fox and probably will read the next book since I’m so shocked that I was left hanging.

Keeping You Away is the first novel in Tyler and Gemma's duet. If you love the slow build romances with a second chance twist and sexual tension by the truck full, you are in for a treat!

About Keeping You Away:

Keeping You away is the first novel in the Ex-Con duet series by Kennedy fox. The first duet is based on Gemma and Tyler's second chance romance, and is told from both Gemma and Tyler's point of view.

Since the moment Gemma can remember, she's always had a crush on her best friend's older brother. When Tyler joined the military she decided to prove her crush was something more so she kept in touch with him by writing letters while he was away. Tyler fell in love a little more with each letter he received from Gemma. But that last letter was the last hit to his armor connecting the two of them together forever, or so he thought.

Four months of bliss and then Tyler was gone with no word and Gemma was left feeling broken and alone.

Years later, Tyler has just been released from prison and he's looking to make a fresh start in the hometown where he found his first start. But with going back home comes serious consequences and writing a whole lot of wrongs. Things aren't the same as when he left. His sister is now an owner of a boutique and the love of his life is now wearing some other man's ring.

My Thoughts:

Kennedy Fox has swiftly become a go to author of mine whenever I need to get out of a book funk or if I need to lose myself in a love story for a few hours. I know with this author duo I will never be let down. And this novel goes to show everything I love about their writing styles.

My initial thoughts when reading this novel: It's a tad bit predictable, but the slow burn is doing it for me. I loved every tense moment between Tyler and Gemma! These two are going to get an epic love story, that goes without saying. But the buildup between these two is igniting. I can't wait to continue on with their story and get down to the nitty gritty!

I loved Gemma's independent streak. But her fiance (Robert) is dead set on her being a stepford wife as soon as his last name is attached to her first. He wants the perfect stay at home trophy wife. He obviously doesn't know Gemma as well as he thinks he does. These two are NOT a match. She needs to chuck the ring and go for Tyler.... Tyler is a real man, he lets her have her independence but he's also willing to be there for her if she needs him. He's the epitome of what book boyfriend stands for. It hurt my heart to see them dismiss the feelings they have for each other... Legit crushed my soul to see them throw away what stands right in front of them.

I do have to honestly say this novel was predictable, but that ending.... I did not see that one coming!!! I need answers and I need them right now. Gemma's about to float up shit creek without a paddle and the shit just got real!!!

Overall, this was a great start to a new series. I can't wait to get all the stories, but especially Tyler and Gemma's conclusion. I need to know what happens, I'm on the edge of my seat here!!!

I'm a long time fan of this amazing wiritng duo, and I have been eagerly awaiting for the day where this ARC would be on my kindle. I fell in love with Tyler when he was introduced in Maddie and Liam's duet, but now that we have is own book, I love him so much more.

The events in this book take place agree Tyler's stint in prison (which if you remember, he was set up by bitch-toria.) He's definitely not the same man that he used to be, and feels like he no longer fits in. So he takes off to his hometown where he hasn't been in years, and is immediately left wondering how different his life would have been if he stayed in this town.. stayed with the only woman he's ever loved. *cue all the feels!*

Gemma had always been in love with Tyler, even when he left and took a piece of her with him. She always held out hope that he would come back to her one day, but ultimately, she couldn't put her life on hold for someone who never looked back when he walked away. She's now engaged to man that's she doesn't really love, but is determined to marry all the same...But the dude has *so* many red flags it's inane. Then Tyler moves back home and suddenly her carefully cultivated world comes crumbling down. Will Gemma and Tyler ever have their happy ever after? Or will their pasts always be in the way?

Looorrrrddd this book SLAYED me. You can just feel the magic pour out of this book, and Gemma and Tyler had undeniable chemistry that just leapt off the page. You know these two are meant to be together, and that cliffhanger left me needing part two now!!

I loved how slow burn the romance is in this one. Even though you can feel their connection right away, they aren't the same people they used to be, and I loved seeing these two fall in love with each other all over again. Tyler is just precious and is now claimed as mine forever. #sorrynotsorry

I also loved Everleigh and Katie!! The two of them and Gemma share such a beautiful friendship, and I loved how uplifting and supportive they were of one another. I love seeing women support other women in my romances, so this was just another added bonus! I can't wait for more to come in this amazing series!

**I received an ARC of this book and these are my honest opinions!**

Tyler has never forgotten his beautiful Gemma, nor gotten over her. But after having served in the military and having gotten out of prison for a crime he didn't commit, he's not in any state to be thinking of starting anything with her. Not to mention that she's an engaged woman now. In a way he wishes he wouldn't have to see her again, but he's going to be working for her dad, so seeing her is inevitable. He'll just have to suck it up.

Gemma's less than pleased to find out her dad hired the man who broke her heart all those years ago. But her dad is all about paying it forward and giving people chances, so she'll have to suck it up. She just didn't count on her damn body betraying her every time she's in the same room as he. But she's an engaged woman, and loves her fiancé, so she won't be anything more to Tyler than just a friend and his boss's daughter. Right?

Wrong...because the chemistry between them cannot be denied, no matter that she's engaged. And I just know they'll find their way back to each other. If and that's a big if, the person who came on the scene in the ending doesn't mess things up for them!

I am dying to find out what happens next for Tyler and Gemma, mainly for Tyler because I want him to find the happiness he deserves. I admit I'm not that fond of Gemma - she's wishy washy and a bit of a wimp. I wanted her to stand up to her douchey fiancé earlier, and take back her life. I also didn't like how she lashed out at Tyler when she was in the wrong. Eh. But Tyler loves her so I'll deal because she's who he wants. Though this part of their story was slow burn, it set up for what I can tell is going to be an epic conclusion in Needing You Close.

Gemma is the one that got away. Tyler will always be the love of her life. It’s been 12 years since they’ve seen each other and he returns after some tough years and being setup. When he returns Gemma is no longer his but you can tell that they still have feelings for each other. Tyler respected her new relationship and she kept questioning her current one along with insecurities. I loved how Tyler kept in contact with Maddie and Liam. And his relationship with his Everleigh was beautiful. But he still had resentment towards the person that put him behind bars. And O M GGGGGGGGG the cliffhanger made me gasp and wonder wtf is going on?!?! I can’t wait for book 2!!!!

What a start to this duet! This slow burn, angsty and drama filled romance is a little different from anything I have ever read by Kennedy Fox. They pulled off one of the angsty romance while still keeping me wanting more. This story follows Tyler and Gemma. Tyler is an ex con, recently released from jail and now living back in his hometown. Tyler is hardworking, caring and one of my favorite heros by Kennedy Fox. Gemma is determined, loving and always there for her dad. Gemma never really left home, she is working at her dad’s garage to help him out. Gemma and Tyler definitely have something still between them but there are some obstacles keeping them apart. Like always I love the side characters in this story, between Gemma’s friends and her dad. I’m so excited for part 2 and to see what else happens with these characters!

Thank you Kennedy Fox and Wildfire PR for this arc in exchange for an honest review!

⭐️ 4.5 "Sweet Home Alabama" Stars ⭐️
It's not a secret that I'm a huge fan of Kennedy Fox. I've read all their books and since meeting Tyler Blackwood in Always Yours, I just couldn’t wait to get my hands on his story. His beautiful friendship with Liam and Maddie was so amazing. I felt he was such a great guy and I wanted for him to find his own happily ever after. Kennedy Fox strikes again with Keeping You Away which is such a lovely second chance romance that had me delighted all read long.

Tyler is back in his small town of Alabama after twelve years away, but most importantly after five years in prison. He’s a changed man, more reserved and searching himself. He’s also back where his first and only love, Gemma, still lives. It’s clear from the start that there’s some repressed feelings between them; every single interaction between them charged with electricity. But the woman is now engaged and off-limits. Robert is certainly not the man for Gemma as I felt the way he acted with her was just manipulative and I wanted her to open up her eyes to his jerk ways. Even if she has a fiancé, Gemma starts to have doubts about her relationship with him and Tyler being back certainly makes her even more conflicted. She still feels the pull toward each other that is undeniable.

The scenes between Gemma and Tyler are filled with amazing banter, provocation and tension! I lived for every single moment shared between those two. I felt there wasn’t enough scenes between them though. I was greedy for more time with this pair, but I still loved the slow burn and where it’s going for the next installment.

As always with Kennedy Fox, the supporting characters made this read even more alluring. Everleigh, Tyler’s little sister and Gemma's best friend, has such a lively and interesting personality that I particularly enjoyed. She's supportive and also a little conniving toward Tyler and Gemma's relationship, but she also reminded me so much of Maddie. Liam and Maddie also make some appearances throughout the book which lead to hilarious, but also so beautiful moments. I love the special bond the three of them have.

The ending was a cliffhanger I kind of saw coming, but I really need to see how it all plays out in Needing You Close. The conclusion of the Tyler & Gemma Duet will assuredly bring its lot of action and twists. Thankfully, we don't have long to wait for the continuation of this duet!

When I first read about Tyler in Liam and Maddie's duet (Always Mine and Always Yours), I fell for how selfless he was in support of his friends. I love the friendship he builds with Maddie and I was beyond excited to get Tyler's story! Lucky, Kennedy Fox did not disappoint with the first half, which means I'm dying for the second book in the duet, Needing You Close (thankfully it's coming August 13th). The way Gemma and Tyler fell for each other when they were younger is so Tyler--I'm seriously in love with him as a leading male, he's not perfect, but he's really caring. Their journey was so sweet and I just wanted them to be happy together, but we all know that's not how life works. Which is why we get some amazing second-chance romances like this one.

A big reason why I thoroughly enjoy Kennedy Fox books, is that I often have a long/hate relationship with the characters. During this book I wanted to scream at Gemma, which is why she's lucky to have Everleigh--the best listener ever--as a friend (I really wish Everleigh was my friend and I cannot wait for the third duet when we get her story). So while I'm over here as the reader with all the knowledge from both POVs, I can't help but be frustrated with the characters, while at the same time rooting for them and anticipating when they will figure it all out. This is why I'm so invested in these books. BUT WAIT, there is also the fact that Kennedy Fox always finds a way to throw in some drama/danger to really spice the story up. I seriously love every moment of it. And that ending! I am not ready for Needing You Close, but I NEED IT NOW! 5 STARS

Keeping you Away is just the beginning of Tyler and Gemma’s story. It is filled with drama, tension, angst, love, passion and a cliffhanger that has me needing more!

We met Tyler in Liam and Maddie’s duet in the Roommate Series and since then I’ve been dying to get my hands on his story! Kennedy Fox did not disappoint. Tyler is EVERYTHING I knew he would be but SO much more. His protective nature in Always Mine and Always Yours was just the beginning. He is caring, kind, loving, charming, hard working and protective. He has just been released from prision and doing 5 years for a crime he did not commit and is coming home to Lawton Ridge, Alabama for a quieter, simplier life.

I LOOOVED Gemma SO much! She is definitely one of my top favourite Kennedy Fox heroines! Her sass, fire and determination I loved so much. She is a fighter and stands her ground against those she loves. She waited for Tyler for a very long time and she has finally given herself permission to love again. She is happy and in love with the man she plans to marry and BAM Tyler walks back into her life and turns it upside down.

I could not love a pairing more than Gemma and Tyler. They are PERFECT! My hearts swoons for every moment shared bertween these two, past and present. The chemistry, the passion and the love between these two is out of this world and I NEED more of these two ASAP. After that cliffhanger I will be counting the days until the next book and CANNOT WAIT!

I read this book in one sitting! I couldn’t wait for Tyler’s story and this first book did not disappoint!
We first meet Tyler in Liam and Maddie’s duet and I immediately loved him. He’s a loyal friend and kept to himself just enough that had me chomping at the bit for more. He proved his loyalty in Liam and Maddie’s duet and now, after serving time in prison for a crime he didn’t commit, he's ready to start over in his hometown. Gemma is Tyler’s sister’s best friend and has had a crush on him forever. While he was in the military she wrote to him and they briefly had a relationship when he returned. However, he couldn’t stay in their hometown and broke both their hearts when he left.
Now, 12 years later, she’s engaged and has convinced herself she’s over Tyler. What happens when Tyler comes back?
I’ll tell you what happens...A whole lot of chemistry is what happens! It’s obvious that these two love and care for each other. There were so many times I was hoping that they would give in to the chemistry between them.
This was the perfect start to a new deut. It had the right amount of drama and tantalizing push and pull between Tyler and Gemma that kept me completely engrossed until the very last page.
I CAN NOT WAIT FOR MORE.

I'm a little late reading Kennedy Fox's books, so I'm not caught up on this series. That being said, you really didn't need to know much going into this one. Other characters and problems from the past are mentioned and I felt like you're brought up to speed fairly well. I loved the angst and forbiddenness between Tyler and Gemma. There's this pull between them even though its been years since they were together. Love his sister and all the girl friends that give Gemma so much support. Not a huge fan of Robert. Especially excited to read the second book after that ending and needing to know what's going to happen!

I DEVOURED this book. I read it in a matter of hours. I was sucked into Tyler and Gemma’s story and just couldn’t put it down until I about through my kindle across the room at the cliffhanger.

Tyler Blackwood was first introduced in Liam and Maddie’s duet and from that moment I was hooked. I wanted to know about him. Now, out of prison for the crimes he didn’t commit, he returns to his hometown in Alabama. Gemma has had a crush on Tyler forever, she wrote him while he was in the military and once he came home they had an amazing 3 months together. He left and had no plans of ever coming home. Now twelve years later, they are forced to work together and she is engaged to another man….

I love Tyler. I have from the moment his character was introduced. He is a great friend and has proven that when it comes to Liam and Maddie. He loves his sister and wanted the best life possible for her, especially since their parents weren’t the best. He still never got over Gemma. You can feel and see how much he cares for her. Gemma still has feelings for Tyler, too. However, she keeps telling herself she’s moved on. She’s happy and about to be married. However, the chemistry between Tyler and Gemma is scorching. So many times I was just rooting for them to give into the chemistry.

I love where this story is going. There is heat and drama all over the place. Tyler wants revenge against the woman who put him in prison and he isn’t afraid to do whatever it takes to get that revenge. I love the secondary characters in this story, too. Of course, there is more Liam and Maddie (who I adore), plus Tyler’s sister, Everleigh, who is fully of sassy. Plus, Gemma and Everleigh’s best friend, Katie, and her adorable son Owen.

But seriously, Kennedy Fox, that ending. I CANNOT WAIT to see how Tyler and Gemma’s story ends! This is a great start to a new duet and a MUST READ!

Ever since getting a taste of Tyler in Always Yours I wanted more of him. I needed his full story after a few breadcrumbs were dropped only whetting my appetite and making me want more.

After spending the last five years behind bars for a crime he was framed for, Tyler needs a fresh start now that he’s released. Desperately wanting to put the last years behind him, he decides to go back home and make a place for himself after leaving twelve years ago. But Gemma, the one person who he has ever loved and whose heart he broke is there. Time may have passed, but what he felt and still feels for Gemma is still there.

Gemma has finally given her heart a chance at love again. After waiting years for Tyler and hoping he’d come back to her she decides its time to move on. She’ll never forget him or the time she fell in love with him while writing him letters when he was in the military. Those three months they spent together will forever hold memories of the best time in her life. And just when she thinks everything is the way it should be, her past comes striding back into her life.

Gemma and Tyler have a lot of unresolved feelings. Their back and forth moments, their eye gazing, the almost kisses only added to their undeniable chemistry. They know they should stay away from each other especially since Gemma is engaged, but it’s becoming difficult to fight their attraction.

Keeping You Away was filled with angst and suspense. And with that cliffhanger I can only imagine what’s to come, and what it means for Tyler and Gemma.

Tyler was introduced, or at least we really got to know him, in the last two parts of the Roommate Duets by Kennedy Fox, starring Liam and Maddie, beginning with Always Mine. And after how much he did to help them out of their hard times I just knew I wanted his story too. Tyler has just got out of jail, and is going back to his hometown, the town he had to get out of when he was younger, even though it meant leaving the one girl he’d ever really loved, Gemma, behind. Gemma is also besties with his sister Everleigh, and she has moved on. She is now engaged to the perfect man. One who treats her well, buys her nice stuff and wants to get married and have children. But when Tyler gets back to town, Gemma finds herself wondering if she is really over him. Especially when things with her fiancee, Robert, start to seem not as great, to pale in comparison to what she remembered having and feeling with Tyler. Of course Tyler’s past can’t quite be gone, and while there are ways that it seems to be showing up and possibly throwing a monkey wrench into his trying to get back to a normal life, what happens at the end of this book, the cliffhanger I know to expect in the first book of these duets, definitely was NOT what I thought was happening. I love how the authors can always surprise me in that way, and now I’m just ready for the second book to come out so I can find out where it goes next.

Okies…. I adore Kennedy Fox. I knew things were coming. BUT OMG!!! My mind is just wow! I swear I keep saying this is my favorite one by them, but honestly they all are and Keeping You Away is just perfect. It is passionate, angsty, sizzling and SO many more things. The history between Tyler and Gemma melts your heart. These two are made for each other. But life happens and now that they are thrown back together, the same chemistry from years ago is still so undeniable. With everything that Tyler went through in the past series that Fox introduced him, I have been dying to know his story. Fox did not disappoint but as always, leaves me begging for more.
Overall, this story is something that will keep you full engrossed because it took my tablet whacking my face for me to put it down because my eyes were so heavy and I finally had to wait till the next day to finish reading it. I adore Gemma because she is a fighter and stands her ground, especially when it comes to family. She would do anything for her dad. But she cannot deny these emotions she has. Tyler is such a unique character where he is so passionate but also beyond loyal. He wants to right the wrongs and I honestly cannot blame him. The little twists that Fox adds to this story just gives it so much depth that your jaw will drop, and leave you dying for the next book!

“Keeping You Away” is an amazing book and is the perfect beginning to Kennedy Fox’s new Ex-Con Duet Series. I found it captivating, exciting, and definitely a page turner. From the first page I was fascinated by the story of a man who wanted to start over and the woman he allowed to get away many years ago. I was familiar with Tyler’s character and I was eagerly anticipating his story. Tyler is a complex man who proudly served his country and unfortunately, also served time in prison. He is a true friend, a hard worker and is devoted to his sister, Everleigh. Moving back home was his only option, and Tyler hoped he would be accepted back into the community. His biggest fear was seeing Gemma again. She had always been in his heart, but he knew that forgiveness may not be in the cards for him. Being around Gemma every day would test his patience, his courage and his heart. Tyler wondered if Gemma could ever forgive him, and would he be able to accept that she only wanted to be friends. Can Tyler and Gemma forget about the past or will their memories be too strong to ignore?

This book was amazing. After waiting impatiently for Tylers story we finally got it and it was brilliant.

After being released from prison, Tyler returns to his hometown for a fresh start. As fresh as returning to your past can be. Tyler is a wonderful guy who has been dealt a few pretty bad cards in his life. His childhood definitely wasn‘t the best but he tried to make it better for his younger sister Everleigh.

Gemma is Everleighs best friend and Tyler‘s first love. She stayed in their hometown and is now engaged to a rich guy, yet she still isn‘t fully over Tyler.

I enjoyed this first part if their story. The ending was as usual not expected and I can‘t wait to read more of what to come for those characters.
I also really liked that we got to see some of our favorite characters from the roommate duet series.

If you read Liam & Maddie's duet, then one, you fell in love with Tyler, and two, you were probably completely blindsided by what happened to him.

This has been one of my most anticipated reads since I finished Always Yours and realized Tyler would be getting his story!

After being released from prison, Tyler is going back to his hometown, Lawton Ridge, Alabama. Back to the place he left the woman he was in love with, Gemma.

Gemma works with her dad as his office manager. What she doesn't know is her dad has hired her ex to work for him.

A lot has changed and Gemma has moved on... or has she?

This reminded me a lot of Mason and Sophie's story. While the characters' relationships are different, this story seemed to have the same tone.

I loved the letters! I loved how they were able to build a relationship through these letters. They know more about each other than anyone else knows about them because they were able to write it on paper which is a lot easier than telling someone face to face. Whether they are together or not, they will always have a strong bond because of these letters.

It's apparent to everyone that Gemma's new man is not the right fit for her. It was frustrating to read because I just wanted SOMEONE, ANYONE to put a fist in his face and have Gemma realize what's going on.

Guess what! My favorite Corrigan sister makes her appearance and I am thankful because I wasn't ready to completely say goodbye to these characters and I love the bond her and Tyler have.

Ruby! I was leery at first, but I love her! It would be different but can she get her HEA even if it's as a side character?

And then there is the return of the evil that put Tyler in prison to begin with. This makes me nervous!

Even though everything that happened to Tyler is explained in Keeping You Away, I HIGHLY suggest reading Liam and Maddie's story first to get the jaw-dropping, what the heck feeling that Kennedy Fox gave us readers. Then you will understand why us Roommate Series fans have been looking forward to this duet!

I really enjoyed reading Keeping You Away by Kennedy Fox. It's the story of a young woman named Gemma, who is engaged to a man who is about 15 years older than she is whose name is Robert; Gemma is 30 years old. When Gemma was in high school she had a huge crush on her best friend, Everleigh's brother, whose name is Tyler. Tyler joined the military after he graduated from high school, and he and Gemma wrote to each other the entire four years that Tyler served in the military. Gemma admitted to Tyler that she had feelings for him a couple of years after they started writing to each other, and shortly after Tyler confessed to Gemma that he had feelings for her, too. Shortly before Tyler was discharged from his military service, Gemma wrote to Tyler telling him that she was a virgin and that she wanted him to be her first lover, and the night of Gemma's high school graduation, Gemma's wish came true. Gemma and Tyler spent almost every minute together that summer, but after three months Tyler wanted to leave their hometown of Lawton Ridge, Alabama, and he begged Gemma to come with him. When Gemma told Tyler that she didn't want to leave her friends and family, Tyler left town without her.

The book continues seven years later when Tyler returns to Lawton Ridge after spending five years in prison, for a crime that he didn't commit. He is hired by Gemma's father, to work as a mechanic in his garage, and since Gemma works as the office manager there, they see each other every day. This novel tells the story of Gemma and Tyler trying to become friends after Tyler broke Gemma's heart all those years ago.

I loved this book about Gemma and Tyler, and I'm really looking forward to the next book in this series. If you love romance novels, you will definitely enjoy this book. Kennedy Fox are wonderful writers of romance. This book has a great story and many interesting characters, and you will definitely be entertained!

4.5 stars!! Can these authors make a ex-felon any sexier?!?!

This is book one in the “Ex-Con Duet Series” and can not be read as a stand alone. In true Kennedy Fox fashion each couple will have a duet that then interlink between each other. I think it’s my favorite thing about all of these series.

This duet is Tyler and Gemmas story. Tyler we met in Liam and Maddie’s story. I couldn’t wait to find out more about him. Damn O’Leary’s!!

I love Tyler so much. Gemma I’m not so sure on. I do like her. I adore the shit out of her father but she is driving me nuts. I wasn’t sure how I felt about their original hook up. Her in high school writing a guy in the military. I don’t know but it made me feel off about Tyler. But fast forward many years and now it’s on. This is definitely a slow burn, tension filled love story. Well really the next book I think is where the love will finally take place or I hope so.

Gemma’s current situation I think is what bothers me the most. Of course this takes nothing away from the book. You are suppose to feel stuff from the characters. Robert is a snake and he makes me want to junk punch him and that is all I will say about that.

Can I say Everleigh is probably my favorite character!! This girl is amazing!! She cracks me up. Hopefully, Ruby was on to something. 😉 I think all the different friendships are amazing. Even going back to Liam and Maddie.

The ending came out of nowhere. I wasn’t ready. I could have read on all damn day. Now I am DYING for book two. One more month and it is all mine.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Keeping You Away is the first book in Tyler and Gemma’s story in the Ex-con duet series. Although this can be read as a standalone, personally I would have preferred to have read Liam and Maddie’s story from the Roommate series first, just so I could have had a bit more background knowledge on the characters.

Tyler and Gemma’s relationship has evolved and devolved so much over their lifetime. From being acquaintances through siblings and friends, pen pals spanning years, lovers to finally nothing at all. Over a decade after their demise, they are finally reunited but everything cannot just go back to how things were. Gemma is now engaged to another man and Tyler has so much baggage and still feels unworthy of Gemma’s love. The solid and deep connection and bond they once shared is still very apparent and has not dimmed at all, if the electrifying chemistry between the two is anything to go by.

The secondary characters were amazing in this book. They were spunky, hilarious and have a great friendship with each other. I especially loved Everleigh. I’m super excited to see if they get their own stories, because I am loving getting to know them as well, along with the little details about their backgrounds and pasts.

I haven’t read a novel by Kennedy Fox in so long and I fell completely in love with their writing all over again. Whilst the writing was engaging and I loved the concept of the novel, I did at times feel like it was dragging out and I wasn’t and still aren’t too sure where it’s going to go from that cliffhanger. But danger is lurking around the corner and I cannot wait to see how everything unfolds.

Kennedy Fox never fails to deliver an amazing read! And this book is killer! I was so in love with Tyler in Liam’s and Maddie’s book! And it’s only amplified after reading his and Gemma’s book!

Tyler has a lot of baggage after being in prison for five years for a crime he didn’t commit, he’s returning back home. Though he never thought he would find himself back, that’s exactly where he finds himself. And looking into the eyes of the one girl that he’s only ever loved.

After breaking Gemma’s heart twelve years ago... the last thing he expects is for those feelings to come rushing back seeing her again. But this time, she’s not his and she’s engaged. They may have once had the best summer of their lives but that’s in the past. They aren’t kids anymore and their problems are so much bigger than they will ever expect.

Gemma still reads the letters that Tyler used to write to her when he was deployed but now with him back in their hometown and working for her dad. He’s hard to avoid. And he’s now packing muscles in places he never had before.

These two were so fun to read and full of so many feels. I absolutely love a good slow burn read and KF definitely delivered! Buckle in and enjoy this slow burn, angst filled read... cause it’s a ride worth taking!

4 Star Keeping You Away (Ex-Con Duet #1) by Kennedy Fox

This is a second chance at love story that drew me in and kept me invested from the first to the last chapter.

It’s true what they say that you can never go home and now that Tyler has returned to Lawton Ridge he begins to understand why it is said. He left years ago and has avoided going back as he knows how badly he hurt his sister’s best friend, Gemma who is now engaged to someone else. .

There is so much unfinished business that lies between Tyler and Gemma, the question is should they let sleeping dogs lie, or confront the past and hopefully make peace and move on.

This is a love story that build slowly, with some angst and was well written. There is something about Tyler that drew me to him, perhaps it is how much he cares for Gemma. Gemma is torn as she knows she still has feelings for Tyler and yet she is supposed to be marrying another man.

The secondary characters were as entertaining as the hero and heroine and the chemistry between Tyler and Gemma is intense. I cannot wait to see what happens in the conclusion after reading Keeping you Away.
