“Assistant Commissioner Glenn Weir said there was ‘zero evidence’ to suggest the attacks were terrorism related. Ibrahim had no criminal history and was estranged from the mother of his child.”
It may be that these attacks were not terrorism related. But the fact that Ibrahim had no criminal history establishes nothing. There was a point in every jihad terrorist’s life when he had no criminal history.
The fact that Ibrahim was estranged from the mother of his child also establishes nothing about whether or not his attacks were terrorism related. Many men are estranged from the mothers of their children and yet do not go on stabbing sprees of random people. Some men also are jihad terrorists and are simultaneously estranged from the mothers of their children.
“‘There’s nothing to indicate at this early stage that this is anything other than a random act of senseless violence,’ Mr Weir said.”
Maybe so. But the Islamic State issued this call in September 2014: “So O muwahhid, do not let this battle pass you by wherever you may be. You must strike the soldiers, patrons, and troops of the tawaghit. Strike their police, security, and intelligence members, as well as their treacherous agents. Destroy their beds. Embitter their lives for them and busy them with themselves. If you can kill a disbelieving American or European — especially the spiteful and filthy French — or an Australian, or a Canadian, or any other disbeliever from the disbelievers waging war, including the citizens of the countries that entered into a coalition against the Islamic State, then rely upon Allah, and kill him in any manner or way however it may be….If you are not able to find an IED or a bullet, then single out the disbelieving American, Frenchman, or any of their allies. Smash his head with a rock, or slaughter him with a knife, or run him over with your car, or throw him down from a high place, or choke him, or poison him.”
If that call or something like it had anything to do with Ibrahim’s actions, how would they look any different from a “random act of senseless violence”? He wouldn’t be carrying an ISIS membership card. He need not have had contact with any ISIS members to have heard about that call and decided to heed it.
“Police revealed Ibrahim spoke to them in 2018 about his concerns that IS operatives from Mildura were out to kill him. He wasn’t taken in for an assessment at the time but was flagged on the police system as potentially having a mental health issue.”
Maybe he does have a mental health issue. But the fact that he thought that the Islamic State was out to get him does not in itself prove that he is some “moderate” who would never undertake violent jihad himself.
Has the whole world lost the ability to think clearly? Will this incident be investigated properly, with examination of all contingencies? Almost certainly not.
“Killer in stabbing spree once claimed IS was out to get him,” by Paul Sakkal, Erin Pearson and Simone Fox Koob, The Age, March 12, 2020:
A Melbourne father who stabbed four people, killing two, in random, “senseless” attacks across the city’s inner-east, once claimed that IS operatives were out to get him.
Mohammed Ibrahim, 34, from Roxburgh Park, was shot dead by police after Wednesday night’s terrifying stabbing spree.
Ibrahim was armed with two kitchen knives and a switchblade when he attacked two women arriving at their Hawthorn home on one of Melbourne’s most affluent streets, killing one, before stabbing a man to death near a Kew tram stop. The second woman was in a stable condition at The Alfred hospital on Thursday night.
Homicide squad detectives have set up multiple crime scenes after three people were killed in an incident in Melbourne’s east.
The crime spree started at Jolimont train station about 11pm where Ibrahim slashed a Protective Services Officer on the face and arm.
Assistant Commissioner Glenn Weir said there was “zero evidence” to suggest the attacks were terrorism related. Ibrahim had no criminal history and was estranged from the mother of his child.
“There’s nothing to indicate at this early stage that this is anything other than a random act of senseless violence,” Mr Weir said.
Police revealed Ibrahim spoke to them in 2018 about his concerns that IS operatives from Mildura were out to kill him. He wasn’t taken in for an assessment at the time but was flagged on the police system as potentially having a mental health issue.
Chief Commissioner Graham Ashton said police talk to many people over the counter every day and there was no concern the attacker was presenting “any kind of terror threat” when he spoke to officers in 2018.
Police are now searching Ibrahim’s home, computer and phone, and talking to his family and friends to ascertain a motive. They are also gathering CCTV to trace his movements prior to the attacks….

Let us imagine if the terrorist was say a member of the KKK or some other allegedly white supremist group, I will bet a year’s salary that the person would tried not only for assault with a deadly weapon, a hate related offence would certainly also be brought against the individual. As I have commented before when the IRA committed a crime, no one pretended it was of a maladjusted individual. There would have been headlines stating that a member of the Irish Republican Army committed the crime. I can remember a time when Johnny Howard was Prime Minister and this kind of crap would not have been tolerated.

Why would Australian law enforcement seek to obscure the terrorist nature of such killings.
An obscure, local publication in California provides a clue.
“Conflict narratives continue to promote division and misunderstanding. Peace narratives promote understanding, cooperation and lay the foundation for the conditions necessary for a peaceful society.” — a quote of Peace Fellow Alden Jacobs, p. 5, “Sharing ideas on waging peace — Part Two,” by editor Mary-Justine Lanyon, The Alpine Mountaineer.
Narratives in this context mean explanations concerning causes of violent situations. Presumably, one would prefer narratives that accurately explain the causes.
However, this Alden Jacobs isn’t interest in accuracy. He wants “peace narratives” that are narratives that raise hopes to achieve peace by projecting good will on both sides and clearing up misunderstandings.
Thus reports of Moslem terrorist incidents would be regarded as “conflict narratives” which “promote division and misunderstandings.”
The debate is epistemological. The issue is objectivity versus subjectivity. Do we live in a world where facts are facts regardless of how we may feel about them, or do we live in a world where we can make unpleasant facts disappear by removing them from our consciousness awareness?
Liberals clearly believe the latter.

Excellent analysis of a foolish subterfuge which only emboldens the terrorists.
I see that the rulers want to create a delusion that Islam is benign, so that lukewarm Muslims will not be radicalized by a perception of police insensitivity and provocation.

Jim, that pamphlet gives a very good insight into the garbage we are fed in most western countries. Although the pamphlet isn’t specifically about Islam, authorities don’t want to “promote division and misunderstanding” (even though the division obviously already exists with Islam anyway because of Islam’s hate filled attitude towards non-Muslims), so they tell us deliberate lies and ignore the unpalatable truth. Refusing to face up to the nasty reality of islam means the problem Islam presents won’t be solved. It is good to see in print in that pamphlet what most of us suspect is going on, which is that we are being fed deliberate lies in order to pretend that everything going along just fine, even though it is not the case. By the way, what the hell is a Peace Fellow? I live in Australia and haven’t previously heard this term, although I suppose I can imagine what such a title is all about. My way to peace would be to face up to reality and stop letting Muslims into our countries.

Such a subtle insidious siren call that has become deeply bedded into our Western philosophy now.
It is has become a tar baby, difficult to fight against, with many reasons and anchor points for its “peace” existence.

The more vigorous version uses the words racism, nazi, fascist, etc. though that is losing its effect as some can now wear that as a meaningless badge. 🙂
This “thought pattern” has been hidden in plain sight, and as far back as Quakers, Pacifists, Jehovah Witness, and many “worthwhile” peace initiatives. Often hidden in universities, and money can flow to them in scholarships, and then extend into government organisations to gain political influence.

Thanks for the information, simpleton1. I find it pathetic and very annoying the way so many people won’t face the unpalatable truth about islam, and these characters who lie in order to pretend that there is peace where it doesn’t exist at all (since Islam is and has always been at war with all non-Muslims) put us all in danger. We all have to wake up and face the truth about Islam and then we’ll get some effective policies to counter the threat to us all that Islam represents. Now I know what a “Peace fellow” is, so thanks for that information.

Thanks for that, James. I couldn’t read much of it because of the imbecilic, as you say, Pollyannaish, view of things. I started to read it but immediately thought, hey, you fools, Islam doesn’t want peace at all, or, at least, Islam’s idea of peace is only that once everyone has caved in and accepted Islam’s dominance, then there will be peace. I can’t cop such rubbish as the idea that everybody wants peace, which is what these fools believe. The Koran says otherwise. People like these, although I guess you have to say, well they are full of good intentions, (that saying, “The road to hell is lined with good intentions” comes to mind), put up barriers to people waking up to the evil intention of Islam, because they mislead some people by saying that all people (including Muslims) want peace. I wish everyone would wake up to the malicious nature of Islam and people like these inhabitants of fantasyland don’t help make that happen.

Also, what does this guy being a father have to do with anything? Sympathy buying? As for the report of him telling police about IS out to get him, why did they not pursue this and have him get a real mental health check up? Too busy looking for white islamophobes?
If this this guy had gone into the station with the name Olson and with blonde hair, and said the aborigines were out to get him, what would have happened? It seems to me, that when people come in with such complaints, someone needs to ask questions, like: “Is anyone telling you to go out and hurt or kill someone, or hurt or kill yourself?” Do you see messages on your tele or computer, or hear messages from your radio, etc.
The victims of this will not have any recourse for compensation either, as this guy probably is broke, and the PTB have exempted themselves from any accountability for failures to investigate and/or act.

Is it an “act of terrorism” when an apparently lone wolf muslim nutcase goes on a murder rampage? Possibly and maybe even probably but I suppose it depends on the definition of “act of terrorism”.
The authorities ARE investigating for a possible motive (often lacking with nut cases) which is usually irrelevant when the perpetrator is dead so it looks like they might be going the extra mile.
It’s understandable for us to presume that this was an “act of terrorism” but not appropriate for the police to do so without some evidence other than that he was a muslim potentially carrying out a personal jihad.
James Lincoln says
According to the feature article, Mr. Weir said:
“There’s nothing to indicate at this early stage that this is anything other than a random act of senseless violence”.
The fact that an attack was “random and senseless” does not necessarily rule out the possibility of a terrorist attack.

I mentioned that, as someone who lives in Australia, this murderous attack has been particularly invisible. I saw a report on a morning TV news show on the morning it happened and then nothing, so I checked it our later on because I did suspect that, being an apparently random type stabbing (stabbings or running people down with a vehicle seem to be fashionable for Muslims lately) that it would be a Muslim. Sure enough, Mohammed Ibrahim. Mind you, there are quite a lot of stabbings here in Australia where youth get into fights. This morning a 15 year old was stabbed to death in a fight, I think in Queensland. Probably nothing to do with Muslims. Of course, the news is almost totally about the coronavirus at the moment. I suspect that this Mohammed Ibrahim is psychotic, but, as is often pointed out, if you are Muslim and have a head full of calls to go and kill non-Muslims, you are far more likely to go and commit a violent, murderous act than people brought up in more peaceful ways. I read the report up above and it is appalling (all these attacks are, of course) about the woman arriving home in a peaceful type of suburb and is just, out of nowhere, stabbed to death. These murders by Muslims go on and on everywhere. So far, Australia hasn’t been as bad as the UK and other parts of Europe (probably we have less Muslims), or the USA, but there have been far too many of them and it is sickening.
Nick says
This news is mysteriously buried here in Australia. The main news sites are downplaying the Islamic angle and if they do have comment sections, they aren’t there for this story.

I agree, I heard it on news radio that morning, apart from that nothing. They kept it quiet, sure didn’t leak his Muslim name.

BS. This was terrorism in the form of self-imposed Martyrdom by Police. By now, one would think that the Police would start wondering why there are so few Muslim suicides involving only one person. Suicide by killing the Kufar and then getting killed by an unbeliever erases all the sins and depression. It’s the Jannah express.

Isn’t it amazing that these Moslems with mental health problems who allegedly go off the rails, never manage to stab Moslems in their frenzied attacks .
