Starting 25 March, 2020, Etihad Airways has temporarily ceased all passenger flights inbound, outbound, and transit passenger flights in the UAE in response to governmental and global attempts to contain the spread of the deadly coronavirus.

According to the initial plan, the suspension should last for 14 days. Nevertheless, the date is a subject to a change considering the situation and regulatory restrictions.

“As the national airline, we stand in full support of the UAE government’s decision, and are confident that we’re well prepared to weather the commercial and operational impact this suspension will have on our services”, the airline said in a statement.

The decision, however, does not include cargo and emergency evacuation flights which Etihad continues to operate.

Etihad is the carrier that has a separate cargo division with a fleet of Boeing 777 Freighters. Nevertheless, to complement the existing capacity, the airline said it is supplementing its cargo planes with Boeing 787-10 passenger aircraft to carry more cargo. This will help Etihad Cargo with 34 weekly flights.
