As I show in detail in my book The Complete Infidel’s Guide to Free Speech (and Its Enemies), for years now the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Pakistani government have been trying to intimidate the United Nations into adopting Sharia blasphemy laws under the guise of proscribing “hate speech” or “incitement to religious hatred.” They’ve actually had remarkable success, although they haven’t fully attained their goal yet.
In October 2009, the Obama administration joined Egypt in supporting a resolution in the UN’s Human Rights Council to recognize exceptions to the freedom of speech for “any negative racial and religious stereotyping” (a highly subjective category). Approved by the U.N. Human Rights Council, the resolution called on states to condemn and criminalize “any advocacy of national, racial or religious hatred that constitutes incitement to discrimination, hostility or violence.” Then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton affirmed the Obama administration’s support for this on July 15, 2011, when she gave an address on the freedom of speech at an Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) conference on Combating Religious Intolerance. “Together, she said, “we have begun to overcome the false divide that pits religious sensitivities against freedom of expression and we are pursuing a new approach. These are fundamental freedoms that belong to all people in all places and they are certainly essential to democracy.”
But how could both religious sensitivities and freedom of expression be protected?
Clinton had a First Amendment to deal with, and so in place of legal restrictions on criminalization of Islam, she suggested “old-fashioned techniques of peer pressure and shaming, so that people don’t feel that they have the support to do what we abhor.” She held a lengthy closed-door meeting with OIC Secretary-General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu in December 2011 to facilitate the adoption of measures that would advance the OIC’s anti-free speech campaign. But what agreements she and Ihsanoglu made, if any, have never been disclosed. Still, the specter of an American secretary of State conferring with a foreign official about how to restrict the freedom of speech in order to stifle communications deemed offensive to Muslims was, at the very least, chilling.
The idea of labeling those who are critical of Islam as terrorists is new. It’s a canny move, as it coalesces well with the Western political and media elites’ obsession with “right-wing extremism.” The forces pushing for authoritarian control over the freedom of speech are many and powerful, and those who understand the importance of the freedom of speech and dare to defend it are vanishingly few.
“UN: Pakistan suggests labeling of anti-Islam, anti-Muslim organisations as terrorists,” Ary News, March 27, 2020 (thanks to The Religion of Peace):
The United Nations (UN) held a consultative meeting today (Friday) focusing on anti-terrorism efforts across the world, ARY News reported.
During the observatory session, Pakistan asked the global peace making body to declare all organisations working against Islam and spreading hate and propaganda in its name with anti-Muslim agendas as terrorists.
Pakistan specified organisations in the South Asian belt carrying out great atrocities against Muslim minorities residing in different countries of the region.
Pakistan said that the United Nations should closely monitor and devise policies on hateful and racist ideologies like ‘Hindutva’.
Pakistan also gave a plethora of suggestions in this regard so that an all-encompassing policy could be devised on the matter if the global body chooses so….

At UN, Pakistan calls for labeling organizations critical of Islam as terrorists
………………
This does not surprise. When Muslims talk about “opposing terrorism”–this is usually what they actually mean.
I just hope the generally dhimmi UN demurs.
mortimer says
To criticize terrorism is in their mind ‘terrorism’.
No one and nothing must oppose jihad-terrorism because terrorism directed by Muslims is a DECREE from Allah: “TURHIBUNNA” (terrorize them) – Koran 8.60.
In other words, the Pak government is saying: It isn’t terrorism when Muslims do it.
gravenimage says
Yep. It also gives Muslims a way of saying they “oppose terrorism” without really meaning it.
Niemoller says
Better idea: Non-Muslims call for labeling Islamic Republics critical of non-Muslims as terrorists
mortimer says
Niemoller, Islam is intrinsically hostile to all non-Muslims. The teaching is called AL WALAA WAL BARAA. If you have not mastered this teaching, you will never fully understand the motive of Islam. I urge you to learn and master it.
David says
Anyone muslim who commits harm to an Infidel for religious reasons is a terrorist. A simple Law, understandable by all. Life imprisonment, on the grounds that the perpetrator will not rehabilitate.

1. I have been reading Jihad Watch for a long time and I have yet to find a way to comment besides as a reply. (Sorry for that) 2. On a certain September 11 the USA was bombed. America went to war with Iraq, even though it was allegedly Pakistan who did it. Ever since then Muslims are taking over the world! I CAN’T HELP BELIEVING THAT WAS THE PLAN ALL ALONG.
gravenimage says
Trish, there should be a “Leave a Reply” box at the bottom of the comments thread–that way you don’t have to reply to an existing comment.
And I have never heard that Pakistan was behind 9/11–although it is true that Al Qaida has a large base both there and in neighboring Afghanistan, and that Pakistan would later give asylum to Osama bin Laden.
Wellington says
The last time the UN did really anything right was sanctioning going into Korea in 1950 after North Korea attacked South Korea. By no later than 1957 Winston Churchill realized that the UN was feckless and a failure. During the Cold War the UN was controlled by the Communist Bloc and now it is controlled by the Islamic Bloc. It certainly is no champion of liberty.
The UN needs to go the way of the League of Nations. Indeed, the UN is even worse than the League of Nations was, and the League of Nations was pretty awful, because at least the League of Nations was “merely” primarily guilt of impotency while the UN has actually become an enabler of evil (e.g., UNWRA).
There is no longer any good reason why the United States or any Western nation still possessed of its collective sanity (sadly a diminishing number) should remain in the UN. The UN has been for a long time a forum where representatives of authoritarian regimes come and lecture representatives of democratic regimes on what they’re doing wrong, all the while of course seeking and getting tons of money from these same despised democratic regimes.
Whatever good remains with the UN is far outweighed by its faults. Almost infinitely (and bitterly risibly) so. Time is way overdue for the UN to be become history. Or, in the alternative, let it remain an organization composed only of non-free polities with headquarters in Tehran or Pyongyang or Riyadh or Beijing or… or… or…
Sick, so sick, of the UN. Anyone who cherishes liberty, and understands the enormous price that must be paid to preserve it, should be by now—must be by now.
James Lincoln says
Wellington,
Excellent post, my compliments.
I agree…
The United States should definitely consider withdrawal from the United Nations for these reasons:
It is a potential threat to U.S. sovereignty.
It is a potential world government.
and…
Many programs by the UN have violated the US Constitution, such as the implementation of the International Court of Justice and the Law of the Sea Treaty, both of which the United States does not currently endorse.
At least the United States withdrew from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in October 2017 and June 2018 respectively…
mortimer says
I appreciate this article and the information provided by Mr.Lincoln hereabove.
The UN has an excellent declaration of human rights which many of the UN members do not use or defend in their own countries. They are hypocrites.
Hillary Clinton was also a hypocrite who promised to undermine the US constitution which she swore repeatedly to defend. What a reprehensible sell-out.
Sharia law says that a kafir who criticizes Islam or says something ‘impermissible’ is at war with Islam (kafir harbi) and should be killed.
Any Muslim may kill a kafir harbi with impunity.
Wellington says
Thanks for your reply, James. We can definitely thank President Trump for getting the US out of UNESCO and that extra farce, UNHRC. And yes, per Article VI of the Constitution said constitution must always remain “the supreme Law of the Land.” Lefties don’t get this, indeed many oppose this constitutional mandate, while many moderates don’t get this either (as Limbaugh likes to say, there is no such thing as a great moment in moderate history). Take care.

I keep saying, over and over again! The ICCPR is garbage. The ICCPR is the reason that the muslim brotherhood is allowed to exist. If anyone cares to read it and look at the signatories you will see that the UN is based on a bunch smoke, mirrors and hypocrisy!
b.a. freeman says
well, here we go; the end is beginning.
either we stand up to these thugs, or we can kiss freedom goodby. the u.s. needs to extricate itself from the UN (UNexit, anybody?), and perhaps appoint an observing representative so that we can help nip the more stupid ideas of the world’s dictators in the bud. other than observing and loudly pointing out the crass criminality and thuggery of the UN, we should have nothing to do with it. and that includes *ANY* taxpayer money, which should NEVER be spent on this cesspool of liars, thieves, and socialists.

This is laughable and ironic – the terrorists calling others terrorists for pointing out the obvious!

DHazard says
The fact that this free speech shredding nonsense is even on the table at the U.N. speaks to an atmosphere that has been de-secularized enough to accommodate back door blasphemy law enforcement. No one should give it any merit, but many will – people from Sunni and Shia Muslim countries, terrorists and the numerous Westerners who are trying really hard to be “good” people but probably can’t name one of the 5 pillars of Islam (“No dumbass, there are no pills that make you Muslim”).
tim gallagher says
This is sickening rubbish. People who criticise Islam, that vile ideology, are “terrorists”. Muslim terrorists are continually actually slaughtering non-Muslims. That is terrorism. People using our western civilisation’s tradition of speaking up freely and calling out an evil such as Islam, are “terrorists”. Yet another word, terrorism, becomes completely meaningless if utter garbage such as this is accepted. It is an insight into the foul world we would all live in if the Muslim knuckle draggers ever gain power and dominate our world. The UN is such a useless piece of garbage, full of disgusting apologists for the most barbaric of countries.

“global peace making body”
It has never been that. And now, made up mostly of moslim nations…and nations afraid to stand up to moslim aggression…it is even less of a “peace-making body.”
moslims have their own definitions for everything…and they never agree with the definitions laid out in dictionaries or with accepted meanings of long standing.
The word “terrorist” is no different with moslims than is “peace,” “innocent,” “lie,”…and a whole dictionary full of other words moslims distort for their own advantage.
This time, they are trying to equate “terrorist” with the “teller of Truth.” moslims are “terrified” of the Truth getting out to the rest of humanity, “terrified” of the curtain being pulled aside to show their filthy evil, fake ‘god’ and fake ‘prophet’ who was a mass-murdering raper of children who wouldn’t have known the Truth if it had slapped him on his ugly face.
James Lincoln says
somehistory,
Now if it would ever be possible to designate followers of islam to be following an ideology that promotes terrorism…
somehistory says
James Lincoln
Let us then, so designate it. After all, why should we have to wait for others to do that?
I hereby designate islam a terror ideology and its followers those of a terror ideology. islam is a criminal organization that engages in theft, extortion, rape, murder and terrorism.
James Lincoln says
Strongly agree, somehistory.

Another common label is Nazi. This one is also common in neighboring India.(especially Hindu Nazi or Buddhist Nazi)

This is real terrorism that is directly sponsored by Pakistan government: the Pakistani NGO’s whose basic premise of humanitarian assistance are denying food to Hindu minority. It is not only happening under Pakistani administration’s nose, they are “the player” in this game in compelling every other minority into Islam:
A Karachi NGO has denied food aid to poor Hindus and Christians, who like Muslims are suffering from coronavirus.
…the welfare organisation refused to give ration cards to non-Muslims, saying that only Muslims are entitled to them.

The UN entertains this type of.crap from a terrorist State. This attempt may fail but the OIC and Losers and PC Countries in the UN won’t give up. Today we have a President who would say shove it, take 1/4 of their budget quit and tell them to move the UN to Switzerland or Jeddah. what about tomorrow if we have a Warren, Bernie, AOC, as President. They would go along with it being Globalists and not keen on Freedom of Speech if it means perceived Islamophobia. Just like with the FBI the Public will be uneducated about the threat they face. Next Roberts, Pamelas, Mr Pipes books will all be in bon fires started by the Islamo/Facists

I don’t think they are going far enough. I believe that anyone or any thing (i.e. a book) that criticises anything or anyone should be imprisoned or destroyed. So if I criticise President X, then clearly I should be imprisoned. Equally if there are books criticising ANY religion, faith, belief, political process etc. then those books should be immediately destroyed and the authors imprisoned.

The aim here is to cheapen the terms “terrorism, terrorist and terror” and render them impotent. This way the world will be desensitized and ignorant when they hear these terms. Once everything is described as terrorism then it will be difficult to point out and draw attention to real acts of terror. Muslims have already been very successful with these types of linguistic jihad, such as the use of the term “Islamophobia” and the denial, appropriation or downplaying of the holocaust along with terms like “hate crime” or genocide.
