“This is a time people have to go to the mosque and pray ceaselessly. Anything out of that will not be tolerated by Allah, because this is a period where people are facing a lot of difficulties due to the outbreak of the pandemic COVID-19.”
What could possibly go wrong?
Note also that a person infected in Cameroon could easily travel to Europe now and be welcomed as a “refugee,” with only “racists” and “Islamophobes” daring to object.
“Cameroonian Muslims Defy Coronavirus Prayer Restrictions,” Voice of America, March 29, 2020:
YAOUNDE, CAMEROON – Muslims in Cameroon have defied and are protesting government restrictions on prayer attendance at mosques, imposed to reduce the spread of COVID-19, which has so far been confirmed in 92 people in less than a month.
The Muslims say the government order defies God’s teachings. Hundreds of Muslim faithful attended their Friday worship sessions in mosques throughout Cameroon despite the government order for prayers to be said at home and for numbers in worship houses to be limited.
As a sign of protest, they sat in front of mosques for 20 minutes.
The government said most of those defying the order were on the central African state’s northern border with Nigeria. Student Koulanya Abo, 23, said he went to the mosque in the town of Maroua in the Far North region of Cameroon to pray for Allah to rid the world of the disease.
“This is a time people have to go to the mosque and pray ceaselessly. Anything out of that will not be tolerated by Allah, because this is a period where people are facing a lot of difficulties due to the outbreak of the pandemic COVID-19,” Abo said.
Terrorist area
Cameroon’s Far North region has been an epicenter of Boko Haram terrorist attacks for 10 years. The Nigerian Islamist militants want to create an Islamist caliphate. They have not made a statement on their stand on COVID-19.
However, Bouba Bakary, the traditional leader and Muslim spiritual guide of Maroua, said that when he noticed resistance to the government order, he directed clerics under him to keep an eye on extremists.
He said he told the 1,200 imams and clerics under his authority that the measures taken by the government were aimed at saving their lives and protecting their communities from a deadly disease that has killed thousands of people all over the world. He said there was a surprising amount of resistance, and he wanted the government to take further measures that would force the faithful to obey the instructions and at the same time maintain peace….
In an effort to stop the spread of the virus, Cameroon on March 18 closed its borders and suspended issuance of visas into the country until further notice. The central African state also closed all schools and asked Christians and Muslims to limit worship attendance and pray at home.

Mosque prayer arrangements provide ideal pathways for spreading viruses.
The second wave of infections may kill more than the first wave which is only half-way now.

Self destruction is good. Can’t blame infidels!
b.a. freeman says
guess again, Cheryl; like the left, the ummah defies logic, and were there to be mass death in the ummah, muslims would claim that it was a jewish attack on muslims. in fact, there are *already* a lot of imams saying exactly that (well, they blame america also, but they claim that the u.s. is controlled by “da joos”).

william carr,
The excuse for allah will be this:
You just didn’t pray hard enough at the mosque – and your heart was not in it.
If you prayed harder, you would not succumb to the virus…

If a human group is strict in its beliefs, it might succeed or fail. If a human group is not strict in its beliefs, it will fail.
Two of the three churches I have regular contact with suspended all its face to face activities way before the government in their countries forbid it. The third one suspended services when the government said so.
Muslims are not suspending a thing. They don’t care about corona virus or any other thing.
Some might contract corona and die. Not many, as the death rate is low. But it is a demonstration of strength in their beliefs.
Christians (which it is what matters to me, as I am a Christian and live in a Christian majority nation) were very quick to let fear and the government shut them down. Non religious people were very quick in giving up their other freedoms.
Mr. Spencer often says Britain is lost, I think all Western societies are lost, as they show no adherence to any sort of belief system. If they allow the government to dictate their behaviours in the face of this virus, they will allow the muslims to dictate their behaviours everytime they try to move the line in the sand a little bit further. Think that Charlie Hebdo does not make Mohamed cartoons anymore.

Our church and many others are having church remotely. To cooperate with steps to reduce an epidemic is humane.

The degree to which corona is a problem, or a serious one, is debatable.
If you, or people from your church want to stay at home, that is ok. I do not have a problem with that.
I do have a problem with government shutting down places of worship and no church saying no.

You want the disease spread? Why?
CogitoErgoSum says
When Jesus prayed in the the Garden of Gethsemane the night before his crucifixion He did it a distance from his Apostles, and only three Apostles at that. Jesus recommended praying alone. Coming together in groups may be good for doing what Jesus asked when He said, “Do this in memory of me” but I don’t see praying in large groups as something Jesus preferred. The people themselves had to ask Him how to pray and he never mentioned doing it in large groups. I don’t see the problem with doing it alone when a threat is approaching. Jesus did not gather all his followers into one large group at His time of greatest danger so that they could all be killed along with Him. Do not think that praying in groups is required or that praying alone is a sign of weakness in faith.

Excellent points, ones that I had never considered…
Westman says
There is a chance, Zé Manel, that the covid-19 will cause the Western liberals to appreciate both freedom and their nations more highly. I don’t think it matters whether Christianity or secularism – unity in the preservation of the nation is the key to maintaining freedom. At the moment, free nations, after 75 years of wandering in the wilderness, finally have a common goal of defeating Covid-19.
Some, like The Netherlands, have still lost their way; considering suggesting to their elderly to sign documents that commit them to die instead of using the scarce ventilators. No nation with this attitude will be able to resist the loss of its character or resist Islam. If some segment is no longer valuable enough to live, where would it stop – Auschwitz?
Zé Manel Tonto says
“covid-19 will cause the Western liberals to appreciate both freedom and their nations more highly”
I doubt that. Liberals are the ones demanding more strict tyrannical measures from Government. They think the current state of affairs, which already got us into a recession, is not enough.
gravenimage says
Wait–so Zé Manel Tonto thinks that putting yourself, your families, your neighbors, and the caregivers who will tend to you at risk of illness and death is a *show of strength*? Good grief…
Luckily, most Christians *do not* think like this.
And belief in and of itself is not a strength–it depends what you believe *in*, and whether that is good, decent, and rational.
Zé Manel Tonto says
“Luckily, most Christians *do not* think like this.”
Maybe that is why government has no problem stepping on Christian beliefs and treats muslims very carefully.

I don’t think that spreading this disease to your brothers is a show of strength.

“Some might contract corona and die. Not many, as the death rate is low.”
The death rate in highly developed Western countries with top quality medical care is around 1%.
In Third World countries, the death rate is many times higher…
Zé Manel Tonto says
This is not the point. The point is the largest part of society is cowering inside because the government says so, even thought the numbers show most of us have nothing to fear. In the meanwhile a smaller strict minority defies the government.
Who will win in the long run?

Cameroon: Muslims defy coronavirus restrictions, crowd into mosques
………………..
So far I have read about a handful of Christian churches and one small Jewish sect in Israel that have resisted calls to shut down large gatherings in this time of Coronavirus–terribly foolish, but nothing like the hordes of Muslims gathering in huge crowds to pass the disease around.
How many more will suffer or die because of Islam?

It’s a life altering situation for each and every human being who has been infected: no matter who infects them.
