Airbus has announced it February results which seem to be not very positive, as the European planemaker recorded no single order in the last month of winter. Is it only a coincidence with the outbreak of coronavirus?

Since the beginning of 2020 Airbus secured a total of 274 orders for its commercial aircraft. Therefore, it appears that all of the total came in January. What happened in February, though?

Is it the impact of the novel coronavirus? Maybe. Airlines are actively cutting flights, grounding aircraft and asking employees to take unpaid leave. No time and immediate necessity to think about new planes.

“Many airlines are cutting capacity and taking emergency measures to reduce costs. Governments must take note. Airlines are doing their best to stay afloat as they perform the vital task of linking the world’s economies,” said Alexandre de Juniac, IATA’s Director General and CEO, in the updated statement on Coronavirus.

What about the Deliveries?

With deliveries the situation is a bit better. In February, Airbus handed 55 aircraft over to 35 customers. These include 40 A320 Family aircraft, four A220s, seven A350 XWBs and two A330 Family planes.

As for today, Airbus’ backlog stands at 7,670 aircraft.
