Projection alert: it is actually the Qur’an that calls upon Muslims to kill non-Muslims “wherever you find them” (2:191, 4:89, cf. 9:5), and terms non-Muslims “the most vile of created beings” (98:6).
“Jordanian Journalist: Judaism Is A Cancer That Harms Humanity; Barbaric Capitalism Is Rooted In Jewish Ideas,” MEMRI, April 9, 2020:
In an antisemitic article published on the Jordanian news website Al-Awal News, Jordanian author and journalist Kafa Al-Zou’bi writes that the current coronavirus epidemic reminds her of Jose Saramago’s novel Blindness. This novel describes a global epidemic of blindness that is not only physical but also moral and is manifest in a complete loss of values and humanity as people fight over material resources in a bitter struggle to survive. Implying that the world is in a similar state, Al-Zou’bi writes that the source of the problem is capitalism, which is barbaric, greedy, and also “Jewish” – because it is Judaism that bears the greatest responsibility for the evil and brutal aspects of capitalism. This religion, she says, is “a cancer that has harmed humanity from the dawn of its civilized history,” because it regards non-Jews as inferior creatures who are detested by God and can be killed with impunity.
The following are excerpts from her article.[1]
“Reading reports about the coronavirus today, I get the disturbing feeling that the world is almost [living] a fictional story, [Jose] Saramago’s [novel] Blindness. In this story, after everyone on earth falls victim to an epidemic of blindness, all trappings of culture, education and morality instantly collapse… [Public] services stop because everyone is blind… There is no government, no police, no law, no restraining morals and no fear of God. Cities become dark jungles in which people lose themselves in a blind struggle to survive, especially [fighting] for a little food and water… Man reverts to the worst possible savagery…
“Saramago does not treat the blindness [just] as a medical epidemic that befalls humanity, but takes a broader, philosophical view, for the physical blindness causes people to lose sight [of their humanity] in their struggle to survive, and to forsake the cultural and moral traditions that they have theoretically come to espouse… in favor of the material interests of survival. Wars, hunger, murder, rape, violence, disease and plagues – that is the lexicon of the actual reality, which for Saramago reflects human blindness that will eventually lead to complete destruction and cause mankind to revert, at some point in the future, to a beast without intelligence, thought or culture.
“Here a childish, innocent thought occurs to me… What if the funds [currently] wasted on wars were devoted to scientific development for the sake of life rather than death, [and] to strengthening culture, morality and creativity rather than ignorance and stupidity? What if these efforts were invested in [advancing] knowledge that would lead to a reduction in the birth rate, instead of in killing people who are regarded as superfluous to humanity? What if the funds were invested in cultivating enlightened people instead of people immersed in illusions and superstitions that cause them to murder and [amass] power? What if… What if… What keeps all of this from coming true? [What prevents] Man from engaging in reasonable struggles, without the madness of evil and egoism?
“The answer is simple and clear: [The fault lies with] barbaric, greedy capitalism, and let me add the adjective ‘Jewish.’ It is Judaism in particular that made capitalism so barbaric and established a [religious] source of authority that sanctifies the worst kind of evil, taking it to its most far-reaching extremes. Judaism permits to kill the non-Jewish other, and regards [the non-Jew] as a different kind of creature, detested by God, because the Jews are the one and only chosen people… This is not just [an idea], but comes to the point of [actually] permitting the murder of the other, who is regarded as an inferior creature. A Jew seeing [a non-Jew] lying dead in the road must not bury him, but may let the dogs eat him… In [Saramago’s] Blindness the dogs indeed eat the dead bodies in the streets, albeit without taking an interest in their masters’ religious sources of authority.
“I believe Judaism is a cancer that has harmed humanity since the dawn of its civilized history. The catastrophe is that this idea infiltrated other religions that came later, and as a consequence these religions did not sanctify Man’s humane aspects as much as his barbaric and evil aspects. Each religion, in turn, promised its adherents that they are the people most favored by God and may therefore kill [others] and persecute them. This is an essentially a Jewish [idea].
“I also think that capitalism could have been less barbaric had it not been anchored in the sources of Jewish philosophy and had it not drowned Man in blindness that will sooner or later lead to his sudden perdition. This will happen if [Man] does not regain his sight and eradicate the epidemic of illusions! In our present reality, that would be a very unlikely miracle.”

Does it matter that there has never been so much material comfort and opportunity and raising of people out of poverty as with mutual voluntary free trade? Of course not.
Starvation does not exist any more, save in war zones and where totalitarian governments have stopped food aid from just those capitalist countries. One of the places where this is happening is Yemen, which is almost 100% Muslim.
In fact, charity is greatest from capitalist nations–such charity barely exists in Muslim nations.

Where is this happening? *Certainly* not in the capitalist West, where quarantine and social isolation has been almost entirely orderly and voluntary.
It is, in fact, in places like Islamic Pakistan where people are being denied aid:

https://www.jihadwatch.org/2020/04/pakistan-muslims-again-deny-coronavirus-aid-to-christians-this-time-in-lahore
This is being done *on Islamic grounds*; it is not based on capitalism.
And it is only in Muslim countries where I have heard of people attacking police for trying to enforce social distancing.
In fact, while Saramago’s tale may perhaps work as allegory–I have not read his story–I doubt that even a global epidemic of blindness would result in the social breakdown he posits in the West. Iit would likely be capitalist nations that would find life-saving workarounds quickest.

Hmmm–this sounds like universal and higher education. Again, inventions of the non-Muslim world. It is in parts of Dar-al-Islam where pious Muslims are murdering girls who want an education, and destroying secular places of learning. There is even the very Islamic Boko Haram, which is dedicated to shutting down Western education on Islamic grounds.

Judaism compared to Islam on the golden rule:
Deuteronomy 10:19:
“Therefore love the stranger, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt.”
Qur’an 48:29:
Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. And those with him are hard against the disbelievers and merciful among themselves…
Islam has no golden rule, except among male Muslims. Islam is a radically dualistic system, as physicist Bill Warner has pointed out.
mortimer says
Yes, Islam has an authentic teaching of hatred and hostility directed from Muslims against the disbelieving kufaar. “Al Walaa wal Baraa” is an ‘essential’, compulsory teaching of hate, rather than an aberration.
Journalist Kafa Al-Zou’bi is *projecting* Al Walaa wal Baraa onto Jews. Judaism doesn’t possess such a teaching of hostility and enmity.
PSYCHOLOGICAL PROJECTION is the technique of defending oneself against the accusation of having unpleasant, immature or neurotic impulses by denying their existence in oneself, while attributing them to others. For example, a person who is rude may accuse other people of being rude.
When Muslims accuse kafirs of ‘hating’ Islam, the Muslims are projecting their own teachings onto the kafirs. The Koran instructs Muslims to hate kafirs because of their religious beliefs.

“Indeed, they who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture and the polytheists will be in the fire of Hell, abiding eternally therein. Those are the worst of creatures.” K.98.6
The jihad verses that demand subjugation are POLITICAL in nature. About 51% of the Islamic primary texts are political.
Judaism doesn’t have a political agenda apart from the temple in Jerusalem and the land of Israel as a Jewish homeland. Jews don’t want to own Egypt, Syria, Iraq or North Africa. Their political focus is Israel.

Gaslighting is a malevolent form of psychological manipulation in which intentionally false information is given to the victims in order to make them doubt their own observations, memories, thoughts and perceptions.

Niemoller says
Truth be told, there are some passages in the vast Talmud that are varying degrees of hateful, but the difference is you’d be very hard pressed to find Jews who agree with or even know about them, much less militantly enforce them. Jewish rationalism simple does not have the mechanism or will to do so; it would go against Judaism to enforce the odd passage penned by a dyspeptic rabbi under seige in the middle ages. It’s commonly said that at least half of Jews today are essentially secular ethical humanists who may or may not observe some traditional Jewish ceremonies and cultural activities. There is no violent coercion to force anyone back into the fold of religion.
James says
It does seem as though sharia has introduced practices far worse than capitalism. The slave trade of people from Europe and Africa, FGM, the dimmi tax, social inequality, beheading, fatwas, destruction of archaeological sites, forcing special clothing on women and girls, forced marriages, child marriages, cousin marriages, honor killings. The list goes on and on. Why is capitalism worse than these?
Uma Maheswar Nakka says
These people have no basic knowledge of a faith, just do what ever strikes in the mind, taken for granted as the saying of their Prophet, foolish isn’t it.
OLD GUY says
If you believe that every religion in the world wants all others to follow theirs beliefs or to enslave and kill the non followers than you have the war of the world until only one survives. The only “religion,” Islam seems to be pushing this ideology of hate everyone else and enslave or kill all who do no follow Muhammad.
My thoughts are that if the rest of us take them seriously we need to destroy Islam and its followers. The
muslim/Islamic people should think this through. Them against us is not in their favor, we have the capability to bomb them back to the stone ages and the cave Muhammad crawled out of. Or we can all respect the humanity of life and live side by side with respect for each others thoughts and beliefs. The alternative will be ugly.
Gamzu says
It’s not clear to me she is a Muslim. Sounds more like a Marxist. Doesn’t the following quote seem to be a slam against Islam?
“I believe Judaism is a cancer that has harmed humanity since the dawn of its civilized history. The catastrophe is that this idea infiltrated other religions that came later, and as a consequence these religions did not sanctify Man’s humane aspects as much as his barbaric and evil aspects. Each religion, in turn, promised its adherents that they are the people most favored by God and may therefore kill [others] and persecute them. This is an essentially a Jewish [idea].”
Karl Marx’s “On the Jewish Question” essay is similarly hostile to Judaism, blaming it for capitalism.
Jim says
“I believe Judaism is a cancer that has harmed humanity since the dawn of its civilized history. ———–
A truly amazing statement, when you consider the fact that Muslims believe that Judaism was the first revelation of God (Christianity being the second and Islam the third). How can someone consider themselves a “good Muslim” if they believe that the “first revelation of God” is a “cancer that has harmed humanity since the dawn of its civilized history”? Sounds rather blasphemous for a Muslim to even think such a thing as that.
b.a. freeman says
wow.
ms.al-zou’bi appears to be a good writer, but her projection of the “values” of islam onto judaism, although somewhat amusing, were also frightening. as an exercise, i used GAWK (could have used SED) to replace each occurrence of “jewish” with “islamic,” “jew” with “muslim,” and “judaism” with “islam” (in that order of replacement), and except for its socialist slant, the rant seemed quite apt in its description of islam.
Anjuli Pandavar says
Dear Muslims,
Here is your opportunity to understand critical thinking, why critical non-Muslims are so unimpressed by you and why we condemn Islam as barbaric and evil.
This whole drama this Jordanian journalist constructs is, she says, “anchored in the sources of Jewish philosophy.” Good. We are always interested when someone’s claims are anchored in sources. So, when you try to impress us with Islam, please anchor your claims in Islamic sources. In fact, any claims you make, base those claims on sources. You’ll have our attention (and respect) straightaway.
At this point we want to know what those sources are and exactly where in them she anchors her claims. We, you see, do not simply hear and obey. We are not trained dogs or circus monkeys. They hear and obey. We do not think that to hear and obey is a virtue in a human. We regard it as a disability. You, oh Muslim, have this disability. You can only hear and obey. You have no way of knowing whether what she says is actually anchored in sources or not. She could’ve made it all up. She could have misunderstood the sources. She could have used unreliable sources. These are all basic critical skills that non-Muslims learn and value (though, granted, some less so than others). It would never cross your mind to ask for her sources, because you’ve heard and you’ve already obeyed.
For us, critical thinkers, this is where she comes unstuck, having *claimed* that her description of Judaism and Jews is “anchored in the sources of Jewish philosophy,” she then fails to mention what those sources are and exactly where, in those sources, she anchors her claims. Since she does not offer any sources, we cannot examine those sources for ourselves. [I know that this article is an excerpt. She might well have mentioned her sources, but somehow, I doubt it. Prove me wrong]
When we’ve examined the sources for ourselves, we will then decide whether those sources are reliable. The sources can fail the reliability test for any number of reasons. For example, a source’s claims are based on hearsay, i.e., so-and-so heard it from so-and-so who heard it from so-and so, etc. To us, it doesn’t matter how long this chain is and who heard it from whom, it fails at the very first “heard it from”. It’s a fundamental principle in a society with developed script, unless, of course, that society consciously chooses to elevate the reliability of the transmitted spoken word over the transmitted written. This is why we are not impressed with what you grandly refer to as “Hadith science.” In fact, it is quite obvious that they are made up to “anchor” circumstantial claims, in exactly the same way modern circumstantial claims require many hadith to not exist. Had the world not yet had a critical-thinking population, now would have been exactly a time to “discover” a whole new set of hadiths with perfect chains of so-and-so heard it from so-and-so all the way back to Muhammad, and we will learn from these new “authentic” hadiths that Muhammad did not marry a six-year-old girl and did not rape her when she was nine. That’s just one example. Extolling the virtues of drinking camel urine, that, interestingly, would also not appear in the new “authentic” Hadiths (do you drink camel urine, brother, sister?).
You see, if a written word is tampered with, you can see exactly where this has happened. Take, for example, the Qur’an. There are so many different Qur’ans in existence today, and yet those who hear and obey continue to insist that the Qur’an is the original unchanged — “not by one letter,” a passenger on a train in Morocco assured me — Qur’an as transmitted by the angel Gibreel from Allah to Muhammad. So-and-so heard from so-and-so, right there! By the time the thing finally gets written down… are you beginning to get my drift?
But let’s get back to the Qur’an in your house, you know, that idol that your whole family worships. Obviously, that physical book is not the actual Qur’an that was first written down. So it is a copy of something else that was written down that went by the name of Qur’an that was itself a copy of something that was written down that went by the name of Qur’an, and so forth. What was that source in which your Qur’an is anchored? This is the kind of question a critical thinker would ask, and one who simply hears and obeys, like a trained dog or circus monkey, will not ask. This is why we know that the source on which your Qur’an is based does not exist, and you do not know this. We know that as soon as someone claimed to have made a copy of the Qur’an, they destroyed the source on which it was based, thereby breaking what would have been a reliable chain of evidence that we could have examined. Basically, the power of the written word had been reduced to the uselessness of hearsay.
This is where the critical thinker would wonder why someone who makes a copy of something would find it necessary to destroy the source, if not to conceal that the copy is different from the source. This is the great benefit of not simply hearing and obeying. We can’t be duped. You are. Unfortunately for all the many Qur’an editors along the way, copying books weren’t always as cheap and easy as it is today. Early manuscripts of the Qur’an bear clear evidence of words having been altered, deleted, or inserted, in other words, several different Qur’ans in one!
So, you see (I hope), that trying to impress us with the Qur’an and the Hadith as sources for why Islam is so wonderful comes up against four top-level problems (there are many more beneath): one, the fact that you cannot see that these sources are highly unreliable; two, that you simply hear and obey these sources, like a trained dog or a circus monkey; three, why would you tout sources that are so utterly barbaric and so utterly ignorant in their content?; and, four, we see Islam and Muslims in action all over the world today, brother, sister, seriously, come on, coronavirus responses identical to responses to the Black Death in the Dark Ages and we are supposed to be *impressed*?
This is how we know that this woman making claims about judaism and Jews is a fraud. But something else has struck us: every single thing she says about Judaism is exactly what we’ve come to learn about Islam, our study “anchored in the sources” of Islam. And we know why you have not learnt from those Islamic sources what we have learnt. It is because we think critically, as free people do, while you hear and obey, as trained dogs and circus monkeys do.

Good Morning to all,
Dear Anjuli Pandavar
I appreciate your excellent analysis on this subject.
Here I just want to point out one important matter, many Muslims themselves believe that Hadith is a manipulated one and false.
Below are some details.
According to Daniel Brown, the major causes of corruption of Hadith literature are:
political conflicts,[7]
sectarian prejudice,[7] and
the desire to translate the underlying meaning, rather than the original words verbatim
