Coach Me

Rate this book
When I met Amber Lakes, I had no idea that she’d become a shining star in my dark, miserable life.

Her smile was never supposed to warm my heart, and the sight of her tears was never supposed to make me want to hunt down the person who’d caused them.

We were never supposed to touch, or kiss, or do so many dirty things on campus that I knew could jeopardize my career...

None of it was supposed to happen because she’s the student—my athlete—and I’m her college track coach.

I could lose everything by being with her, but I’ve fallen too damn hard, and despite how big the risks are, it’s too late to turn back now.

Coach-Me
I must say that as someone who hates sports... this book made me want to run a marathon!!! 😂🏃‍♀️

📚 "𝙁𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙞𝙣 𝙡𝙤𝙫𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚 𝙗𝙚𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙙𝙞𝙖𝙜𝙣𝙤𝙨𝙚𝙙 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙖𝙣 𝙞𝙣𝙘𝙪𝙧𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙙𝙞𝙨𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙚. 𝙄𝙩'𝙨 𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙫𝙞𝙩𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙪𝙣𝙚𝙭𝙥𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙚𝙙." 📚

19-year-old Amber Lakes has worked hard her entire life to to achieve her goal and get a full scholarship. Her determination and motivation was what made her so successful as a runner. 🏃‍♀️
She had other options, but BU was a risk as their team has no cultural diversity... Amber is the only woman of color on the team - and combined with her great talent, it set her as a target. 💥😱

Coach Joaquin Torres doesn't intend to allow discrimination, but he has no problem expecting the best from his students, especially Amber - he pushes her to work harder than ever so she could be the best. 💪💪💪

Coach Torres is broody, tough, demanding and faced many challenges himself... But the toughest challenge is his attraction towards one of his students. Despite trying to fight the emotions and resist the pull, the lines are starting to blur between them. 😱
They both know that any personal connection is forbidden... they know what the consequences may be... but is the risk worth it?? 💥❤

📚 “𝙁𝙪𝙘𝙠 𝙢𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙖𝙢𝙚 𝙬𝙖𝙮 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙘𝙤𝙖𝙘𝙝 𝙢𝙚.” 📚

The Taboo Queen has done it again!!! 👑
I devoured the book... it was well written, sexy, deep and intense! But beside the taboo part - of age gap, forbidden love and hot AF moments - there is so much more to this book... It deals with important issues - social inequality, unfairness and racism. 💔

I liked that the characters were multicultural, there aren't enough of them in romantic novels and it's definitely refreshing! ❤
I loved the way their love story evolved and the combination of sweet and hot scenes... 🔥
I loved how Shanora portrayed the characters, especially Amber's - I felt such a strong connection to her... She was mature, strong and focused - which made her character believable. No matter what she had to deal with, she always stayed strong - and I couldn't help but draw inspiration from her. 💪😍

📚 "𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙨𝙝 𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙜, 𝙤𝙧 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙙𝙤𝙣’𝙩 𝙧𝙪𝙣 𝙖𝙩 𝙖𝙡𝙡.” 📚

There were some things in the plot that I didn't like (for example, the rapid progress of their relationship - everything happened to quickly) but it didn't stop me from enjoying.

I know some of you may be uncomfortable with some of the characters' experiences - but beyond the taboo story, there is something so relevant and real about this book that you just can't ignore!!! 👏
Highly recommend! ❤❤❤

A topical & evocative story that focuses on this current social inequality theme, while spotlighting a taboo romance in the foreground. It's a story of a talented young girl, with stars in her eyes and wind beneath her wings. She's ready to speed ahead on the track and in life, yet racism and bigotry will prove to be the biggest hurdles in her path.

description

Ably assisted and pushed relentlessly by her Talented coach- Joaquin Torres, who's had to jump over quite a few hurdles himself, limping away broken and battered on backfoot now.
It's a coming together of kindred spirits book. shanora has a firm grip on forbidden genre. she easily maneuvers the complex emotions through the maze of desperate hearts, capturing readers attention with well placed passionate scenes.
“Fuck me the same way you coach me.”

description

The depth of sentiments belie the young heroines age, but she's mature and focused and that makes her believable sensible and sensitive. When she stumbles, I hurt with her. When she cries of a broken heart, I yell at the gods above, for her. She's likable, adorable and endearing
Torres the Bitter is carved as an old school, strict & demanding. his brutal yet firm coaching drives Amber Lakes harder than before and her dream to be the fastest female runner in state of North Carolina is within her fingertips reach. It's HIS dogged persistence and recognition of spirit that makes it possible for HER to reach her goals.
This makes Coach pretty heroic in my eyes.
“Do not let these privileged people steal your fucking shine. That shine is yours. You worked on it every single day "

description

The narration is very heartfelt and I could feel the frustration and anger at injustices rolling off the words. It's strength lay in the conviction of shanora herself. for me, a POC, it touched close to home in many ways.
My felicitations and applause for Shanora for not only successfully attempting to highlight a burgeoning pandemic in current society but excelling at it with hard-hitting words and forceful language too. All the while wrapping it up in juicy, sexy package
can I get an Amen for Crusader Williams ?

Joaquin Torres.
The man of my dreams.
My knight in shining white armor.
He is all I’ll ever need.
He is all I’ll ever know.
And I am perfectly happy with that.

Let me start by saying that student/teacher romances are my jam everyday of the week and twice on Sundays. So I knew I would probably be a happy girl going into this.

Coach Me by Shanora Williams ticked off some of my favorite forbidden tropes. Forbidden, age gap and student-teacher. It also has an underlying tone of racism and discrimination. I so enjoy Shanora's writing and I love her originality, wit and creativity. Her characters are always complex, interesting and endearing. And I can't tell you how much I LOVE how Shanora just dive bombs into taboo/forbidden themes like she does. From Wanting Mr. Cane, which I loved, to The Man I Can't Have which was just phenomenal. I already love a good teacher- student romance and this book reminded why I do so..

Fuck the risks. Fuck the age difference. Fuck it all. Amber Lakes is all mine and I’ll be damned if I let her slip away from me.

First thing that caught my attention in this book was the title. First thought in my mind... Mmm! This sounds like something dirty. Exactly my type. But there is nothing depraved here, rather than a beautiful and sweet story of a university student and her track coach. With a hero that will no doubt frustrate the HELL out of you and a heroine that doesn’t necessarily do the things you expect her to do - Coach Me will definitely endear you. I really liked the relationship that formed between Amber and Joaquin. They've both experienced loss and faced many hardships. And both are perfectly beautiful together despite the age difference. I loved the slow-burn feel of the book and I enjoyed the supporting characters in the story. I loved the steady pace, the depth and descriptions in this story.

We are meant to be, and one day we will be, and that gives me so, so much to look forward to.

One thing that left me wanting more was its abruptness. I mean, there were no heated looks or lingering stares, Amber and Joaquin haven't even talked properly and then BAM, they're full on making out and sucking each other's tongue. There wasn’t enough tension for me. I do wish we had a little more build up between them and then let them loose. And the end part with the time lapse didn't capture me at all. But still, I was happy with the book. I enjoyed Amber the most, I felt she was written to be much more mature for her age than even Joaquin was, in my opinion.

“Shit, Amber,” I groan in her ear. “I won’t be able to go easy,” I warn her. “Then don’t.” She hooks an arm around the back of my neck and leans her upper body up to mine. “Fuck me the same way you coach me.”

Shanora Williams is a must read author for those who just can't resist forbidden tropes. And Coach Me is a good one and like every other Shanora Williams book that I've read, the edgy plot with angst and light drama definitely appealed to me.

THIS BOOK!

“You want to blend in with them. Feel like a regular runner.” He huffs a laugh. “But that’s kinda hard to do when you’re the only black girl on the team. Forget trying to fit in. Why not stand out and be great?”

Shanora has done it this time! The feels were intense with this one. It hit all the cylinders in my heart.

Age gap—Yes, please! 10+ years.

Interracial relationshipBlack/Latina & Mexican

Coach & Athlete romance. Oooh.

Black athlete on an all white team. Shanora really tackled these intense subjects on racial prejudice in a very real way. I have lived this life, and I know she has too.

Steam x1,000 true Shanora style.

Angsty ASF because they can’t be together.

An Hea so delicious it makes me want seconds.

I loved this book. That is all. If the things I mentioned above is your flavor, read it!

I have always loved this author and her ability to make you feel like you’re a part of all of the couple’s she’s created. She knows how to do a forbidden romance very well and when you’re finish with that story, you always have a smile on your face and find yourself breathing with a sigh of relief because all the drama and heartache you’ve just experienced? Was worth it.

Nineteen year old track star Amber Lakes has always known what she’s wanted out of life. Attend a prestigious college while being on the track team and walk away with a degree four years later. Being a fast runner is in her blood and she knows that with a talent like hers, she has the power to be unstoppable. But on her new journey to adulthood and carving out a career path, Amber is about to encounter a few rude awakenings and a distraction that has the ability to bring her seemingly normal life, a lot more complicated.

Shanora_CM_06-1.jpg

Joaquin Torres is not a man of many words. Dubbed as the a**hole coach and extremely broody, his reputation has it’s own reputation. Starting a new semester means having new students and seeing his roster for the new line up, Joaquin is hopeful that the team will be the one to watch from now. But when he sees the golden eyes freshman that runs like her life depends on it, Joaquin knows that life as he knows it, will never be the same.

I really enjoyed this story and I liked the fact that this author was not afraid to go there when it came to certain topics. You felt for Amber and everything that she had to endure and a part of me wanted to just wrap my arms around because as a woman of color myself, I understood where she was coming from. The only thing I wasn’t a fan of really was towards the end. It felt extremely rushed and I wanted to see more of Amber and Joaquin’s relationship.

If you’re a forbidden romance fan, then this one is for you.

Forbidden Romance | Student/Coach

Coach Me is a standalone, student/coach, forbidden romance from Shanora Williams. If you haven’t read her books before you should know that she writes some steamy forbidden romances. Those books are the exact reason I started reading her novels and honestly, I haven’t been able to get enough of them since then. When I found out she was writing a forbidden romance between a college athlete and her coach I jumped at the chance to read it and I am really glad I did. I don’t read enough books like this and it was unique in comparison to the books I’ve been reading lately. While I did enjoy this one as a whole though, it’s not a favorite of mine when it comes to her books. I think one of the main reasons is that I never felt the angst or forbidden passion between Torres and Amber. Perhaps this is because there weren’t many clandestine meetings? It all just happened very quickly and that made for an un-angsty read for such a forbidden subject. Don’t get me wrong, Shanora can write the heck out of a forbidden romance, I just didn’t FEEL it between these two.

One of the things I absolutely LOVED about this book is that the characters are multicultural. You don’t see this enough in romance novels to be honest and it’s a breath of fresh air when you do. There were some moments that were uncomfortable because racial biases were a part of this story (I hate stereotyping and racist remarks), but they certainly bring major issues to light. I think many readers will connect with Amber because she’s so raw and real and deals with her haters appropriately.

All in all, this is another solid read from the author and I think many readers are going to really love it. While it’s not my personal favorite it might be yours so make sure to check it out when it releases.

This was a good athlete/coach lance, but it was missing the high stakes and angst for me. I really liked the heroine and how her dad was the one who had trained her in running, but he passed away a few years ago. The hero is the coach and he's the one who is the coldest and pushes the runners the most. Obviously there was an attraction between the coach and the heroine, but I felt like they just fell into a relationship and didn't really try to fight it. Sure there were some repercussions at the end, but there wasn't anything making me super obsessed with their connection or dying for them to be together. I love athlete/coach romances, but this has been my least favorite one I've read. It wasn't a bad book, I just wanted a bit more.

Wtf did I just read. The age-gap trope in books are one of my favs but this one was just ughhh not it. I mean the heroine said “Coach Torres is walking sex on a stick and I am one hundred percent intrigued by him.” That was the first thing she thought of him when she first saw him. Now I’m no hate when a young girl admires a older guy like a teacher or someone else but seriously? That is the FIRST thing you say when you see your teacher for the FIRST time. And from there it is a fucking disaster.

➸ New Adult-Sport Romance
➸ forbidden (coach-student)-enemies to lovers-age gap (11 years)
➸ Fist person, dual POV
➸ Standalone? Yes.
➸ Cliffhanger? No.
➸ HEA/HFN? Yes.
➸ Trigger: Racism, bullying
➸ Steam? Medium/High .

Hello book funk my old friend.

description

Meh, this was just an okey read..nothing special or memorable.
Look, I'm gonna be honest.. Coach Me reminded me of Waking Olivia.

➠ track ✓
➠ coach/student ✓
➠ asshole/aloof/chip on his shoulder hero with a tragic past ✓
➠ enemies to lovers ✓
➠ jealous teammates ✓
➠ bullying ✓
➠ prejudice ✓
➠ isolation ✓

(..)

I rate books against others of the same genre/trope and sorry, Mrs O'Roark did a better job. If I have to recomend a book with coach/student-age gap-enemies to lovers-track, my answer would be Waking Olivia because the romance aspect was excellent . In Coach me the romance was simply flat.
There was no flirting, angst, longing, sexual tension, chemistry and build-up.. And sorry, I expect to find all these elements in a forbidden romance.
An example?
For 40% of this book:
➠ the heroine was dating another guy and she was into him
➠ the hero was hooking up with random women
Yes, they find each other attractive but nothing more.
Then out of the blue, they kissed and started an affair.
For this reason I couldn’t connect with their romance.
Lust? Yes.
True feelings? I'm not sure.

In conclusion, here's the reasons why I finished this book (but I admit I skipped some parts) and give it 3 ⭐️ :

➠ the main characters were likeable, especially Amber. I really liked her because she was loyal, caring, strong, fierce and driven.
➠ both hero and heroine are POC characters and they weren't stereotyped.
The author did an amazing job !
➠ the few sexy times were hot.
Coach me deals with racism and I really enjoyed how the author handled this delicate topic.

- This book wasn’t for me. It reminds me of something Jennifer Hartman or Penelope Douglas would right and it kind of gave me the ick right away. I think it’s because she’s only 19 and he’s the head coach which is giving OLD.
- I did enjoy the writing style so I’ll definitely read more from this author in the future. I love how much dialogue there was in this book. Made it really easy to read, even though the storyline wasn’t my favorite.
- The fmc was definitely giving 19 vibes because of how dependent she was on the mmc. I think I would have liked to see more of their relationship outside of the bedroom too but obviously that wouldn’t really be possible since he’s the coach.

This forbidden romance between a sexy coach and his off-limits athlete brings the HEAT!

Amber Lakes is headed to college on a full ride track scholarship. She’s worked her whole life to get to this point. Her determination, drive and sacrifices are what have made her successful.

Choosing BU was a risk for her. Their track team was not culturally diverse. She’d be one of the only women on the team of color. Amber was about to shake things up. Her skill level was already intimidating, but package that with her beauty and her positive attitude, she was a triple threat. She was tough and that thick skin would be necessary, because the racism amongst her own team was going to rear it’s ugly head.

She found her friend circle and a coach that would go to bat for her. Coach Joaquin Torres was not going to allow any discrimination or unsportsmanlike conduct on his team. However, he had no problem expecting the best. Pushing her beyond her limits. Making her work harder than ever. He wanted her to be the champion he knew she was.

Coach Torres was broody, a bit of a loner, but no one could deny how hot he was. He expected his team to give it their all on the track. Coaching a women’s college team was not without it’s challenges, especially when you had your own attraction to one of your runners.

Keeping a professional distance from women you work closely with is hard, but one you share an intense connection with is nearly impossible. Lines are blurring. The tension is at an all time high. Someone is going to break. Resisting the pull between them is impossible, no matter how hard they fight it.

The taboo queen has returned with a super sexy forbidden romance. She delves into relevant topics and doesn’t hold back. We’ll see the ugly side of humanity and the lack of basic human decency. We’ll watch them struggle between doing what’s right and following their hearts. The chemistry will absolutely sizzle. Joaquin is a man who wants to protect Amber, but he also can't let her go. He knows any personal relationship between them is prohibited, but he can't help himself. She knows what's on the line for them both, but the risk is worth it. Both characters struggle with their choices and the consequences that unfold. Their romance is not smooth sailing, but their love is strong. Amber and Joaquin are committed to getting their HEA. A sexy read you will thoroughly enjoy.

After reading the Off Balance series, I was in the mood to read another coach/athlete book so I decided to check this one out. This is less taboo as the heroine is a college athlete. I enjoyed the book, but it was missing that tension and angst I was hoping to get. I did like Shanora's writing and will be checking out more from her in the future.

BITCH! When I say this book took me by surprise I mean that shit. This story truly touched me in a way that no others have recently.

The story follows Amber Lakes, who’s starting her freshman year at university on a scholarship for track. Amber’s driven by the love she shared with her father who trained her up until she was 11 when he tragically passed away. This was where I found myself relating to her having lost a parent that young as well. There’s a constant need within you to want to do them proud as well as yourself. She grew up in a loving & stable household that turned her into a talented, grounded, responsible, smart & strong black woman. All qualities she’ll need to help her through this transition at school.

Coach Torres a 30 year old hot as sin Hispanic coach has made a name for himself at BU. All the students flirt with him yet loathe him at the same time because he’s known for being a hard ass and very strict while coaching. He also has his fair share of struggles which I won’t spoil but GOD I love me some him. The instinctive need within him to take care of & look out for Amber had me locked in. I wish he would call me his preciosa (precious) if he needs a dog I’ll happily bark.

Their connection and bond was so beautiful to watch transform from coach/student to being partners. They genuinely had a really good foundation because it didn’t start around sex. I mean my heart damn near burst at all the sweetness/tenderness & easy going relationship they had. I was very surprised that they put up boundaries to separate when they were at school versus in private. Steam between was on point, I’m not mad one bit.

This book does touch on some racial issues & discrimination they both face at the university & I really loved the way in which Shanorah tackled those issues. 10/10 definitely recommend I’m OBSESSED!

⭐️ 4 "Coach Torres" Stars ⭐️
Coach Me is an age gap forbidden romance I couldn’t wait to get my hands on. Shanora Williams is my go-to author for his type of stories and once again she didn’t disappoint with this novel. While Amber and Joaquin’s romance is illicit and steamy, their story is so much more than just a coach and his younger athlete. Coach Me is eye-opening about the deplorable issue of racism that is still actual in the world and how it affects its victims.

Amber is a dedicated athlete only wanting to be the best runner at her new university. While she’s determined to prove her talent, it’s not easy for an African American girl to make her place on the team mostly composed of white girls. I admired her maturity and the way she doesn’t bow to the mean girls and keeps her integrity. She stays true to her nature as a fighter without turning into a mean girl herself!

Coach Torres is always pushing his athletes to perform at their best, sometimes being harsh and unapologetic in his ways. From their meeting, he shares a special connection with Amber. It’s more than only a physical attraction, but the same understanding of the cruelty of certain narrow-minded individuals. With his Mexican genes, he’s also in the minority on campus and learned that he needs to work harder to advance in his career and be respected.

I enjoyed the evolution of their romance that was beautiful and based on something more than just sex. Both of them knows they have a lot to lose from this forbidden romance, but their feelings runs too deep to go away! I really loved their relationship so much! The intimate moments are so hot, but emotional too. This story was seriously a great little treat that is so much more than just smut.

I’ll admit I felt the story wrapped up too fast though. Toward the end it was just too rushed in my opinion and it’s mostly the reason I didn’t rate the book higher. Overall, Coach Me is the perfect sports romance with nice touches of sensuality and feels. You need to meet Amber and Coach Torres!

I hope me finishing this book in 9 hours gives you an indication of just how FIRE this story is!

Listen.....I could not and would not put this book down!! Let's get into it.....Amber is a heroine that I can completely relate to, she's raised very close to her parents, respectful, smart and a super talented track star, I mean CRAZY fast! She had her pick of schools attend and chose Bennett University. Bennett is a very prestigious school and will allow Amber to stay close to home, unfortunately something they don't have is diversity and let's just say not every faculty member or her own team mates welcomes the only black girl with open arms.

Assistant Coach Torres!!!! YUMMMMM! We can do some sprints ANY day! He's blunt, direct, and 95% of the time kind of a dick. That's still not stopping all the college girls from wanting him but that's not what he's here for, there's some tragedy in his past that's made him closed off, he just wants to focus on coaching and supporting his mother, he'd never take a second look at any of his students.....until.

FEELINGS on top of FEELINGS, angst, discrimination, passion, character development, so much complexity and texture this story has it ALL and I didn't even tell you how HOT AF!!! LORD THOSE SCENCES!!! COACH ME is easily a 5 star read, Shanora did that!

The only thing that comes to mind while writing this review is that I’m a bit disappointed in Coach Me. I remember first reading Tainted Black and being blown away!! It was my first time reading a forbidden age gap romance and I fell hopelessly in love with Theo Black. Since then I’ve read quite a few of this authors book and she’s good at giving us an angsty forbidden love affair but Coach Me was not it.

This is the story of a college Track and Field athlete named Amber Lakes and her Coach Joaquin Torres. I was expecting the same level of angst...conflict and love but everything just fell short for me. This book wasn’t boring but it wasn’t interesting either..I didn’t feel an ounce of connection to these two characters...I didn’t feel the chemistry they were supposed to have. So as a result I couldn’t get invested in their relationship. It was pretty slow and found myself skimming through a lot of it. After the 40% mark it goes into warp speed but everything that happens just feels so 2 dimensional..nothing felt like it had any depth to it.

On a positive note..the author does try to bring to light racism and wrongful shootings by police. Amber was being targeting by other team members and coaches because she the the only black girl on the team but not once does she let them get to her and she handle it all with class.

I really wanted to love this book but it was just meh all the way around but in no way will this make me stop reading this authors books.

I love Shanora Williams. I love her writing style, her characters, and everything!! And this was just another book of hers that I really enjoyed!

There’s an age gap (like 10 years), taboo-ish with coach x athlete, and smutty!! oh so hot and smutty, forreal

There’s no OW, OM, angsty drama, or anything along those lines. And there’s a HEA!!

I read this all in one sitting — pretty easy read.

It’s such a disappointment when you’ve waited on a book for what seems like forever and then you end up not loving it, especially when everyone else seems to be going crazy over it. I adore Shanora Williams and one of my favourite characters EVER is Theo Black (If you love age-gap romance then you have to read DEAR MR BLACK), but Joaquin just didn’t have the same effect on me that Theo did; I found him to be incredibly immature for his age and I didn’t warm to him at all. I wasn’t invested in his relationship with Amber at all and found myself skipping parts.
Clearly I’m in the minority with my thoughts on this book, so my guess is that I was expecting too much from Joaquin, and unfortunately that led to me struggling to find a connection with the characters and storyline.

I live for this woman's forbidden words!!!!

When you find out Shanora is writing a Forbidden romance you just know whatever it's about you will love it.

I read it and loved it so so much. My poor heart.. It was the most perfect love story ever!!!

Coach Torres. Where to begin with that gorgeous man.. He was a little bit of a hard ass but deep down you know there's a reason for him being like that and that he's got a sweeter side. I loved him so so much.

Amber I freaking loved her. What she went through at college because of certain people and how they treated her.. One person in particular needed to be drop kicked in her hoo-ha because she was horrible.

I literally laughed in parts, swoon ohh sooo much and had the odd sad and happy tear because I loved the ending so much.

Well done Shanora on another amazing read #TorresAndAmberAreAbsoluteLife

„You see me so much better than anyone else.”

Shanora Williams is my go-to author when I'm in the mood for something sexy and taboo. Every time I reach for her book, I'm sure it will be full of heat, tension and angst. When Coach Me landed on my Kindle, I jumped head-first, thinking that I knew what to expect. And I nearly choked. Torres and Amber’s story is so much more than a spicy, forbidden romance. This book is impactful and thought-provoking. It bares injustice and discrimination. It drips with life-truths and sends an important message and Shanora passed it on in a heartbreakingly beautiful way.

The way author described Torres makes me want to start running and get my own coach. Not only because of his undeniable sex appeal, but because of his heart of gold. At first we get to know this man as broody, aloof and strict, but as the time passes and we peel off his layers, we find an understanding, protective and loving guy that carries a lot on his shoulders.

Amber also experienced her own pain and heartache, despite her young age. She’s a beautiful, smart and talented girl, determined to be the best on the track. Unfortunately, at every turn she faces injustice, jealousy and hideous discrimination. However, Amber doesn't let it break her spirit. Despite the ugliness surrounding her, she's kind and humble, without letting anyone to push her around.
It’s obvious that nothing should happen between them. She’s an athlete and he’s her coach. But is it possible to stay away from each other when you find the one person who sees and understands you? Amber and Torres are connected with a special bond, electrifying chemistry and a fervent passion. I loved to see the longing and the need that despite their best efforts didn’t died. Their feelings are raw, deep and real and I was falling deeper in love with them with every turned page.

Coach Me is so powerful. I felt so much for both characters and I raged for all the things they needed to face. This book is packed with unfairness, diversity, social division and discrimination. But it’s also an unique and beautifully written love story that filled my heart to the brim with emotions. It definitely should be a mandatory read!

oooh such a good forbidden, athlete x coach, age gap romance.

amber is recruited to the track team at an ivy league school where she’s one of the few people of color on the team and the only black girl. right away, another girl on the team and a coach start bullying her because of it. torres sees a lot of parallels between his story and hers and as one of the only minority coaches at the school, looks out for her and takes her under his wing but very quickly, they realize they both have feelings that are more than a coach should have for his athlete and vice versa.

y’all know i eat up an age gap, forbidden romance every time and this one had tension, spice, the whole nine. torres was super hot and amber was such a good heroine. i wish we saw more of their emotional connection earlier in the book and the third act conflict was a little predictable but such a good read if these are your tropes!

Coach Me By Shanora Williams

4.5 Coach Torres Stars ⭐️

As the title says this is a Forbbiden love story between Amber a Young Athlete and her new coach Torres , there’s tension , age gap and a lot of excellent moments between them.

The DIVERSITY in this book is not a joke , Amber the heroine is black and Torres is Mexican so we have an Interracial couple and a lot of important topics around this two communities are talk about in this book which I really LOVED.
The sports factor really got me too , I believe Amber passion for running and her ambitious to become the number 1 athlete.

Chemistry on point, secondary characters on point , the forbbiden on point , Shanora as always Slaying with her books.

Forbidden Romance? Age Gap? Yes pleaaaaase!!

This author always manages to pull out all the stops when it comes to her writing; especially forbidden romances. This is why she continues to be one of my favourite authors to date. She continually sets the bar high and yanks feelings out of you, you didn't know were possible.

One thing I love about this is the diversity, how it manages to approach certain topics and social issues, real-world problems, and give it the attention it deserves. Most people are afraid to talk about these things, but not Shanora and I adore her for it. I couldn't help but relate to the story, and have my heart cry out for all the injustices of the world. It's written beautifully and approached in a way that I didn't think possible.

The ending kind of fell flat for me because I expected a lot more, but that's just my own personal taste. The sexual tension and chemistry are off the charts, but, of course, that's expected. A fantastic read! I definitely recommend!

I feel compelled to write this review with appreciation and heartfelt gratitude to Shanora Williams for writing what I consider one of my favorite stories of 2020! Her writing was realistic, relevant and personally relatable, not to mention scorching interactions between the two main characters added to the allure. I loved this book!

The cultural and societal portrayal in Coach Me conveys so much that has touched me in more ways than one! You see, when I read stories such as this, which are rare by the way, not only do I feel validated but I’m inspired to convey how timely and pertinent many of the topics Shanora wrote about have been and still are today. I love the way she described these characters without stereotyping and yet not sugar coating anything.

Amber was such an endearing young woman of 19. I could literally feel the loss in her life, her dedication and commitment to honor her father and her own determination to achieve her athletic goals. On a personal note, at one point while reading one of her monologues I shed a tear and felt a connection that’s hard to describe. She displayed poise and grace in a dignified manner no matter what and as she opened up her eyes to realities of the world she never grew jaded. Even when dealing with those that despised her she managed to project strength and endurance. She evolved in so many ways and never lost herself. I loved her relationship with her two best friends and especially with her mother. Her relationship with Joaquin was two sided and somewhat complicated but she persevered.

Joaquin was aloof and broody as a coach. He was a complicated man with secrets he held close to the vest. He had experienced a difficult situation in his young life and carried it with him making it difficult for him to be open and accepting. He was drawn to Amber but knew he had to maintain a level of professionalism and commitment in his position as coach. His was conflicted yet drawn in a way he couldn’t deny and with which he had to come to terms.

I know there will be a few readers that may feel a little uncomfortable with the subject matter as well as some of the experiences of the characters in the story but I also hope that in that, they’ll realize the relevance of Shanora’s words. I’m hopeful that the experiences and backgrounds of these characters as skillfully written as they are will open minds and hearts because Amber and Joaquin were phenomenal not only for all they went through, how they evolved and followed their hearts but for their swoon worthy chemistry! I highly recommend this book!

I received an ARC of this book for an honest review.

Amber is a gifted runner but she chooses a "white" university because it gave her scholarship and it was close to her mother but little did she know that being black, this decision will make her deal with issues like racism from people meant to guide her and unhealthy competition from privileged people who are used to getting away with everything if their fathers make a lot of money and donate to the university and although she has her breaking point, Amber is strong and full of light and she remembers her father's legacy:
"YOU FINISH STRONG OR YOU DON'T RUN AT ALL"
Joaquin Torres is Mexican origin. He knows what it feels to be judged by the color of your skin and he knows what terrible consequences it can bring and he is there for her – not on his watch
Torres and Amber are soul mates but they met at the wrong place and the wrong time . can love be wrong? Can they keep their love and deal with the world outside?
I loved them. loved how strong Amber is, loved the emotions hiding in that tough, distant, strict coach that he is and I really didn't feel the age gap mattered for them.
Racism is something nobody should deal with and the color of your skin only makes you more beautiful.
