Netflix is being branded as “Islam’s enemy” over “rumours of a gay character on a Turkish Netflix series.”
The flareup in Turkey now in progress over the series is to be expected. Islamic law is clear on the punishment of execution (Abu Dawud 4462) for homosexual activity, and it is carried out in many Sharia states.
Ebubekir Sahin, president of Turkish TV Watchdog — the Radio and Television Supreme Council — stated: “We will not tolerate broadcasts that are contrary to the national and spiritual values of our society.”
The values to which he is referring are clear. Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has placed Turkey on a path of steering the constitutionally secular country onto the path to Sharia. He has warned of a battle between the cross and the crescent, aiming to revive the Ottoman Empire, and has even referred to Turkey as the future of Europe. Turkey also aims to become “a centre for Islamic finance as it seeks to increase its influence in the Middle East and the Muslim world.” According to MEMRI, “a Turkish-language news website promotes the worldview of the Islamic State (ISIS) and is updated daily.”
One can see a clear illustration of where the country is headed, which spells trouble for Turkey’s gay community. A gay travel site warns:
It an Islamic country and one that is moving closer to traditional Middle Eastern values on a daily basis. This is a similar situation to gay right in Indonesia and Malaysia and shows no signs of letting up….At the moment LGBT people in Turkey are not protected either in the public sphere or in employment through anti-discrimination laws.
Pink News highlights an abusive incident by police:
In June 2019, police clad in riot gear fired tear gas at Istanbul Pride marchers to disrupt the event, marking the fifth year the event has been prevented from going ahead.
“Netflix slammed as ‘Islam’s enemy’ by bigots over rumours of gay character in Turkish teen drama,” by Nick Duffy, Pink News, April 15, 2020:
Rumours of a gay character on a Turkish Netflix series have fuelled anti-LGBT bigotry in the country.
New Turkish coming-of-age drama Love 101, which is set to begin on April 24, unleashed a torrent of fury over unconfirmed rumours that it will feature a gay character.
It’s technically legal to be gay in Turkey, but LGBT+ people in the country have few legal rights and face extreme stigma – with Pride parades still often brutally repressed by police.
The Love 101 rumours have fuelled a homophobic moral panic in the country.
According to Reuters, the president of the Radio and Television Supreme Council Ebubekir Sahin made clear: “We will not tolerate broadcasts that are contrary to the national and spiritual values of our society.”
Online, posts have racked up thousands of likes accusing Netflix of “trying to normalise immorality”, branding the streaming giant “Islam’s enemy” for airing the show during Ramadan,
Netflix – which has championed LGBT+ representation in many of its releases – has not confirmed or denied reports about the show, but has warned of “misinformation” spreading online.
The streaming giant told Turkish media: “A lot of false information is spreading from fake accounts… believe only what you hear from us about the series and the characters, not the rumours.”…..
…..But homophobia in the country is no joke. In June 2019, police clad in riot gear fired tear gas at Istanbul Pride marchers to disrupt the event, marking the fifth year the event has been prevented from going ahead.

As someone who lives in Turkey, I want to say something to Turkish LGBT people: if you love yourself, you should leave Turkey ! I’ll sort out the reasons why I said that… First of all, hate speech and death threats against LGBT individuals are frequently made on social media and can get thousands of likes ! The government, on the other hand, doesn’t care about LGBT individuals at all. Even the government is able to engage in hate speech directed at LGBT individuals. Perhaps more than half of Turkey hates LGBT people. In fact, LGBT people do no harm to anyone. In most Islamic countries, even the terrorist organization ISIL is not hated as much as LGBT. People with the same mentality as ISIL are very much in Turkey as there are in Islamic countries.
There is only one party that advocates for LGBT individuals in Turkish Parliament. It is Leftist, Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP). However, this party is facing huge pressures from the government.
I also want to say something to Western countries: instead of filling your countries with Islamist terrorists, why not grant asylum to minorities like LGBT people who are persecuted in Islamic countries ?
Seth says
Precisely because the immigration policies of Western governments are not motivated by altruism.

Western governments have been infiltrated by muslims so the only ‘altruism’. you can expect will tailored to suit them. In other words, just forget about it!

ONLY FIVE MORE DAYS to RAMADAN BOMATHON 2020. Ramadan is the ‘month of jihad’. I know, you can’t wait! (sarc/off)
This year, Turkish police can say the pride parade is breaking the quarantine.
I predict Ramadan will superspread the disease at all the Ramadan night-time food binges.

Netflix has a new series, “Caliphate” which is sure to aggravate ISIS and its admirers during Ramadan. This is interesting watching for JW readers. It should be a wakeup call for Sweden – where is was produced. It is in Swedish(some English) language but well captioned. The writers capture both the nature of Islam, the obvious Islamic mixing yet not integrating, the recruiting by ISIS, and the loss of homogeneity in Sweden.
The movement of nations like Turkey toward a more rigid 7th century Islam is a reaction to the relentless push of modernity – an attempt to re-elevate Islam. It won’t bring any respect for Islam, rather, it will impoverish and move non-oil Islamic nations to 3rd world status. Turkey, as a relatively modern nation, has much to lose.

I dropped Netflix when they hired 0 and the First Wookie. I’m surprised that they would broadcast anything negative to the islamosavages.

Netflix has garnered an immense Islamic following globally with its Resurrection series about a Jihadi nomad Ertrugul, who defeated the evil Christian knights and the satanic Mongols before fathering the Ottoman Empire, named after his son Osman.

You Crooks and bigots are racists. You see anyone who is not Muslim as satanist or evil. The truth is that the despicable being called allah is a sadistic “god”. As for the Ottoman Empire: the Ottoman Empire was nothing more than a cruel, evil and racist empire. The Ottomans inflicted great atrocities on the Alevi Turks. The Ottomans were more Arab dogs than Turks. They were so despicable that they became dogs to Arabs and slaughtered people of their own people just because they had different faith or sect.

Halaku is *not* Muslim.

Netflix forces gay characters into every series they’ve made in the last couple of years. Netflix tv shows always have racist white men and gay characters and white girls begging black guys to date them forced into all story lines no matter what, it’s literally on every show that’s netflix made and I’m not kidding.
So if this new show does not have any gay characters then it means it’s just our society and culture that they’re trying to ruin with radical gay agenda.
