He’s like literally the worst.

Oakley Davis is the star running back at our University, and the reason I’ve broken my vow to avoid the college party scene. Thanks to a mixup with my advisor, I’m now serving my Public Relations internship as a glorified babysitter to the party-hard football players.

Specifically, Oakley.

He’s impossible to manage. His Instagram is full of half-naked, drunk photos and he’d rather attend parties than practice. His brand needs some serious work, and when he’s not driving me insane, he’s sleeping his way through the entire female population.

But I’m determined. I have plans to graduate a semester early and nothing or no one will get in my way. I’m a Virgo, after all. Oakley Davis might be a privileged, cocky, football star, but I’m Amanda Matthews; and I’ll do whatever it takes to get my A.

I have to make sure I don’t end up falling in love with the idiot, first.

Girl with a checkered past has to reign in Jock with image issues!

A lot of New Adult romance novels follow a somewhat similar format and this one doesn’t differ too far, but it works and that is why I like these college athlete romance books. It is generally the Star Athlete and/or big man on campus, you know the one. The guy that all the girls want and all the guys want to be. He is the life of every party, the guy that wins all the games and sleeps with one girl after another.

Yet somehow there is a girl that doesn’t fit the mold, she is smart and either brought in as a tutor, or to get him to settle down and stop partying. In this case, her name is Amanda Mathews and she transferred to the University of Texas from USC because she had been Partying too much and had embarrassed herself one too many times on social media. After transferring she had cleaned up her act completely and focused on her studies and only has an internship as a publicist left to do in order to graduate a semester early.

Amanda’s assignment for her internship was to improve the public profile of the football team’s leading player Oakley Davis. Oakley has his Mother’s money behind him, he doesn’t seem to care about going pro, so he doesn’t care about his image, and he posts about almost everything he does on social media. Including all his partying, drinking and the girls he gets with. Almost everyone thinks Amanda has little chance of success.

The book is quite a fun ride while the Amanda and Oakley get to know each other and learn to work together. I also like some of the side characters including Amanda’s parents and some of the guys on the football team. Amanda calls Oakley “Problem” and Oakley calls Amanda “Solver” which is actually more and more cute as the story goes on. This was one hot and steamy new adult sports romance!

I voluntarily read & reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts & opinions are my own.

Funny AF

Ok I didn’t realize that this would have so many actual funny moments. Yes this is about Amanda growing and moving on from her past and falling in love, all while trying to get her colleges resident football bad boy whipped into shape. He’s a PR nightmare, but hot and hilarious and Amanda is just the driven and tough heroine to turn him around. But it’s also just a funny af read. That’s all I can say about it.

I'm a goner for a hunky football star -- especially one that might be rough & tough on the outside, but is nothing but putty on the inside. Oakley will surprise you -- and in all the best ways. Amanda's a strong character and I loved watching her bounce back from a rather horrifying experience. Between the two, sparks flamed and I loved every minute of their games. And I'm always so excited when the hero falls hard for a girl that can often beat him at his own game.

Great writing by new-to-me-authors in a fantastically fun and wild romp on the playing field. Lots of laugh out loud moments that include Amanda's mom who is a bit over-the-top -- you'll just have to read the book to see her in action.

really liked this one, super fun and amazing chemistry between the characters. My only critique is that there was an eating disorder involved and they kinda talk about it for like a second but not really, I really wish they would acknowledge that more and then it would be a five star for me, so its a shame. still recommend tho.

***Audiobook Review***

4 Stars

If you love NA Sports Romance, then this book needs to be on your TBR. I absolutely loved the premise of this novel, and the connection between Oakley and Amanda was fun, flirtatious, and steamy.

Oakley is the typical star athlete, living his best life on campus, who has also become a bit of a PR problem. Even though he had the college star persona we see in so many NA romances, he was charming. His conversations with Amanda really exposed the real Oakley, who was sweet and charming, and at times still a PR nightmare.

Amanda was a different kind of heroine. She had a lot of hangups, and was, in a sense, her own PR nightmare. I did love her evolution as a character. She tackled her own demons and set people back in their place who tried to make her feel inferior.

What put the cherry on the top for me was the host of secondary characters. They provided everything from comedic relief to the best friend who lends an ear to the H or h.

While the plot wasn't anything out of the norm, it was entertaining and paced well. It kept me entertained, and I chuckled listening to the audio. The characters were well developed, rounded characters with flaws and imperfections. The two complimented each other and made each other better. The conflict was unexpected and fit so well with the characters, and the ending was perfect for the character evolution as a couple and as individuals.

This writing duo was new to me, but they will definitely be one I pick up again. It was great writing, wonderful characters, and a feel good romantic journey.

***audiobook - this was a single female narration, which is not my favorite, but I did feel like she did a great job reading all of the different parts.

***there are definitely some humor that will not be for everywhere, think Violet's character from Helena Hunting or some of Meghan Quinn's characters.

This book took me back to college. Literally. I am a proud graduate from the University of Texas 🤘🏼. I also studied advertising and worked for the athletic department so this book was basically made for me 🥰.

This book was packed with humor. Pages in and I was already laughing. This book also included the typical college stories we all remember so fondly 😂

Oakley Davis was a legit PR nightmare. His social media presences couldn’t have been worse. Amanda Matthews transferred to UT after a scandal at her last school. In order to graduate early she was forced to revamp his image. These two were extremely amusing. They had such a playful banter that was infused with sexual tension. They definitely brought out the best in each other!

Must read 🧡
Better than reality tv 🙌🏼

now this is the kind of romcom i like. this is a light read but was so much fun and steamy. the side characters were amazing especially Amanda’s mom. in the beginning i thought i wouldn’t like Oakley because playboys are generally what i not like but wow did he warm his way to me.. the way he took care of Amanda <333 um i’m giving it a 3.5 stars and not 4 because i thought that some more light should have been thrown upon the eating disorder.. but nevertheless, it was an amazing read.

Disclaimer: I received an Advance Reader Copy at no cost from the publisher/author. All opinions in my review are my own.

This was such a marvelous book! This was such a heartwarming story about learning from past mistakes and overcoming them. I completely devoured this book.

I really loved the writing voice in this book. These two authors really make a great team. The narration was smooth, inviting, and humorous. I loved every moment. I was totally enthralled with the plot of the story. This is an enemies-to-lovers type story that didn't disappoint. I loved all the plot points and the overall flow of the story.

These characters totally captivated me. I was head over heels for them from the very start. I loved the personalities of the main characters. They were distinct and charming. Both main characters had depth and fantastic character growth. I also really adored the secondary characters. Amanda's parents were such a delight. Her mom had me in stitches.

The romance was so organic and meaningful. I loved the natural progression of Oakley and Amanda's relationship. They gradually gain an appreciation for one another while they are spending so much time together. They even share things with each other that they don't talk about with other people. They are very open with each other. The chemistry that they shared, even in the beginning, was electric. They had incredible banter and such a connection with each other. And when things heat up between these two it is truly hot.

Overall, this was such a humorous, witty, sweet, and steamy read. It clicked off all the boxes on the list of things that I adore in a New Adult book. This was such an outstanding collaboration and I am so excited for more from these authors!

Unfortunately this wasn’t for me. The story itself was ok and Oakley and Amanda weren’t bad MCs but it was overshadowed by the cheesy language really. Phrases like ‘his long dong silver’, ‘my penis fly trap’ and ‘my clitasaurus’ just sound super cringey and aren’t for me. Thankfully it was a quick read or I’d have probably abandoned it.

These characters were difficult for me to like.

The H is a self-centered douche-y manwhore

The h is a former party girl with a burgeoning eating disorder

I didn’t like either one until well past 50%

This book includes loads of juvenile humor with ”funny” names for genitalia like the delightful “fur burger” and the romantic “flesh baton” sprinkled throughout every chapter. And they like a good fart joke. It made it very hard to invest in the characters.

Bottom Line? By the end, I grudgingly said it was “cute”, but it’s not something I’d recommend to a friend. 2.5 stars

⚠️SAFETY SQUAD SPOILERS⚠️

- no cheating or sharing

- OW drama - the h witnesses the H flirting with , touching, screwing various random groupies. He is repeatedly found with women hanging on him, even after the h and H are sexually involved. He doesn’t “cheat”, but he’s certainly not falling over himself with loyalty.

- No OM drama

- neither MC is a virgin - both have a past of screwing randoms

- h has addiction issues with alcohol - she’s recovering

- h has eating disorder issues - the H just kind of ignores it and she’s miraculously cured by the end, even tho the reader was never shown any changes in her behavior

- condoms used and then not used - they’ve both been tested

Feel-good and swoon-worthy!

This book gave me all the good feelings. I laughed so hard throughout, I adored the banter between Amanda and Oakley. They each have their own demons to battle throughout the book, but the positivity and humour remains strong.

As many of the reviews seem to state the book started off promising but did not stay promising. I found the whole premise of the book to be good and was pretty excited during the beginning. But it very quickly went from yayyy to meh to blah.

I really disliked how h was immediately attracted to H, and she would continually bring up his attractiveness to the point it was annoying

There was no chemistry between the two, I got no feelings or emotions from h, and it appeared H just wanted to sleep with her like he does everyone else

Hero pretty much immediately changed his public behaviour, like there didn’t seem to be any work involved with her actually having to get him to change his ways.

There seemed to be some random contradictions though the book. Amanda says her family is rich but her dad wants her to live like a college student and so she doesnt have a lot of money. A $7 concealer is a splurge to her yet she talks about her Burberry sweater and an endless amount of sneakers so she can match her laces to her leggings. And she also charges an unnecessary flight to a credit card like it’s no big deal. There was also contradictions about her wearing makeup like her saying she no longer wears in and wasn’t wearing any when she met H, yet she also talks about currently wearing foundation and not wanting to take off her makeup while staying with H. While the contradictions are minor they are also very annoying.

You see me rolling... on the floor, like laughing out loud! This friggin book is funny y’all! Oakley and Amanda’s story was sweet and sassy and sarcastic and quick witted. This was such a fun book to devour, because I didn’t just read it, I straight up devoured it. As fast as possible. Right now in this crazy messed up chaos that’s life, THIS book was exactly what I needed. I was the perfect little time out. The calgon “take me away bath” in the form of a book!

Amanda Matthews has relocated to the University of Texas to escape a past she’s not proud of and she just wants to put behind her. She’s determined to take an internship opportunity to help put her on the fast track to graduating early. She’s feisty and goal oriented, the only thing she has to do, clean up Oakley Davis’s image. But OMG!! What a flipping nightmare. He’s all over social media, and dang is he ever a hot mess express, emphasis on the HOT!! When Oakley starts flirting and she’s around him all the time, will she be able to resist his delicious body and that annoying yet adorable charm that drops panties all across campus?
Will this be the new start Amanda was hoping it would be, or will parts of her find history repeating itself?

Oakley Davis is everything. No heart nor pair of panties is safe on campus. He is gorgeous, talented, and funny. But there is so much more to him than that. His character cracks me up so much. When he is forced to spend time with Amanda he really makes it annoyingly hilarious at first to try to get under her skin.

I love books where the big man on campus is brought to his knees by our heroine. I think we get that here and it’s so sweet and endearing. I never found his character to be the d-baggey popular guy. He did get around a lot and he was unapologetic in his behaviors but he was just so adorable, it was easy to forgive him. Lol

I don’t know how that happened. I guess because he wasn’t a mean character and he had reasons for being the way he was and they were quite heartbreaking as well. I loved these two together, they both had stuff to overcome and they were able to do that and heal together. It was perfect! 😍🙌🏻😍 I love CoraLee and I am Super excited to see Carrie and what she has in store for us in the future.

Cr8zysockbookblock blog wrap up for this book!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐⭐️- This book is freaking adorable! Secrets , angst, hella hot and sexy times, so much heart, banter, tears, forgiveness, overcoming past mistakes, just enough frustration. Y’all the banter, the creative names for the genitalia. Talk about HILARIOUS. Our His sexy and our h is sassy af. These characters are FANTABULOUS! GAH! They are LIFE!!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥-Holy hawt biscuits and gravy! Ladies Oakley is hot enough to make you want to slap your granny! LOVE IT!!

2.5 🌟

If there's one thing I can count on, it is the humour in Carrie Gray and Coralee June's books. It's A grade.

Whist I've read and totally liked a couple of their books...this one unfortunatley was a miss. I'm a huge sucker for sports and after reading a lot of dark and gritty books every now and then I need something fluffy and soft to balance my hormones and the book blurb checked all the boxes for me.

So what's the problem now you ask? The major problem is that it dragged on and on for forevah, it just kept on going and going with all the unnecessary chapters.
I felt absolutely no whatsoever chemistry between the characters. The sports trope that I wanted the most was just simply 4th wheeling in the background. Another thing that just flew over my head is that I don't understand is that why does a grown ass man need a baby sitter for him? I get that he's into all that partying and stuff but seriously? Most the parts chapters where just skimmed through.

Now I know I could've just DNFed it like any sane person would but I was already halfway through it and was like "You know what let's see if I can bring my self to finish it."
But that was...a total wastage of time at the end.

Additionally, at times I also really really wanted to know what was going through Oakley's head but it's only told in Single(h) POV.

Guess it just wasn’t for me. I feel sad leaving this review but I only made it to 23% and I just couldn’t finish it. The MFC was annoying from the get-go and the overuse of phrases where she was trying to be quirky/funny was just overdone. The male lead was annoying when he first met her, plastered, in a bar and his “pickup line” was tacky....I honestly thought she was going to reply with some kind of “wtf” response but instead she got “wet” from his words?! Umm..no. I love bully/enemies to lovers romance books and I have read a ton of them, but I couldn’t get into this one. Not sure where all the high star ratings are coming from. Guess it’s just me.

I absolutely LOVED this one. I adored the characters, the banter between them was fantastic and the character connection was spot on. This was one of those books I didn't want to put down, and when I was forced to, couldn't wait to pick it back up again. Loved the development of both characters and this was a real fun, swoony read that I can highly recommend.
