Joe Biden Revealed

Posted: 01:41 PM ET

To tell you the truth, when CNN assigned me to work on this documentary, I was a little surprised. Don't get me wrong – I looked forward to the challenge, but I am not at heart a political reporter. I do not live and breathe politics.

Of course, I am interested in the issues that affect all of us, but I am more interested in learning how a politician's personal life has shaped his or her political views. And as an investigative reporter, I am especially interested in holding elected officials accountable when they abuse their power.

During the past couple of weeks, Governor Sarah Palin seems to have stolen the media spotlight. Maybe for good reason – people want to know who she is and what makes her tick. That's why when I told a couple of people about my new assignment to cover Sen. Joe Biden, they seemed a little disappointed. They really thought the more exciting documentary would be that of Gov. Sarah Palin. But when I asked them what they knew about Biden, they really didn't know much, except that he's been around for a long time, and he's known for his foreign policy experience.

That brief conversation, made me realize how important it was to show people who Biden is – his ups, his downs, his successes and failures. He is a six-term senator. You probably recognize his face – that smile, but what else do you know about Joe Biden, the possible future vice-president of the United States of America?

This documentary will reveal Biden's dramatic life story. You'll hear him talk about, for example, his two life-threatening aneurysms and what he told he sons before surgery. I promise you will learn things you don't know about this scrappy, outspoken senator from Delaware. Of course, there is no way to cover everything there is to know about Joe Biden in one hour. So check out the political page that breaks down the accomplishments and histories of both vice presidential candidates.

I'd love to get your feedback on the documentary. Remember this is a forum for your opinions, ideas and debate.

Sen. Biden is clearly the most-qualifed person on either the Democratic or Republican ticket. Although I would have preferred that he was the Presidential nominee, I am pleased that Sen. Obama realized what Biden could add to his administration. All one needs to know to decide between Obama and McCain is to compare the qualifications of the people they chose to be their VP – BIden was a terrific choice and, despite all the Republican bluster (and lies), Palin is a joke. If your intelligence is not insulted by McCain's choice, you need to get your head out of the sand!

pbdenver   September 13th, 2008 7:42 pm ET

You got the better assignment Sarah Palin could be summed up in about 4 minutes...

Here it is in a nutshell in my view...

"I agree with McCain & Bush on everything except some slightly irrelevant issues" "Oh and I like to intimidate librarians and cops who get in my way" "Also I lied in every part of my RNC except when I was belittling Barack Obama's accomplishments...

Assitoum   September 13th, 2008 7:43 pm ET

Great idea!

A light should spark on his achievements. Media coverage is been drawn toward Palin not really because she's accomplished anything to my knowledge but because of her "historic" stance as a female vice-presidential candidate.

I actually would like to see media oriented toward someone who's overcome great deal. I think Biden deserves the coverage.

Carolina   September 13th, 2008 7:44 pm ET

I love Joe Biden and can't wait to see your documentary. The more I read about him, the more I like him. I think a lot of Americans will feel the same way.

Billy Nobody   September 13th, 2008 7:45 pm ET

Biden was such a better pick than Sarah Palin. It seems like new things come out about her every day that put me off more and more. Should be a great watch.

Vote Obama!

John   September 13th, 2008 7:48 pm ET

I hope you had the opportunity to ask him how someone who has averaged $250,000 in AGI over the last 10 years only has a net worth of $150,000. Not to mention the other 20 years he has been in congress. It certainly isn't because of him giving to charities.

RA Crouch, Michigan   September 13th, 2008 7:49 pm ET

About time!

Silvio   September 13th, 2008 7:53 pm ET

Professional pol. Record of only 2% of voters thinking he had anything to say. He was not even smart enough to make it as an also ran. Who is the idiot on Obama' staff that picked this bozo? Should be a 5 min clip rather than a documentary.

Mlm   September 13th, 2008 7:57 pm ET

That would be a great way to move away from the tabloid journalism that sarah palin has generated.

Need An Unbiasedmedia   September 13th, 2008 7:57 pm ET

Gesh, sounds like another puff piece designed to push Democratic National Committee talking points.

Hillary supporter   September 13th, 2008 7:58 pm ET

We all love him , he is a good father. I just got information about his 10 years taxe returns the record prove that his one of us. He shows that the ordinary peoples can do the extraordinary things. He give me hope such us middle class person.

Jodi of Portland, OR   September 13th, 2008 8:13 pm ET

Biden will be the next VP of the United States. Anything less, and we are screwed as a nation.

Biden brings both foreign and domestic policy experience with him–much more than even Hillary had, and Biden grew up in a hard-working, white middle-class area and school system and he represents "middle-America" best and in comparison to Palin, even more so! Biden is also not afraid to answer hard-nosed questions the media likes to feed him; unlike the easy non-sense questions they feed Palin, then only to not get the question answered, or she is olivious to the answer like when she was asked her opinion of the Bush Doctrine.

Biden was not born with a silver spoon in his mouth, and still to this day, takes the Amtrak train home from Washington to Wilmington, DE.

Obama was constantly scrutinized the last year and half for not having any experience on his ticket, and he chooses a guy who is qualified in any aspect that Obama was lacking in.

I look forward to watching the "Joe Biden Revealed" program tonight on CNN

lori   September 13th, 2008 8:14 pm ET

Joe's comment that 'Hillary may have been a better choice than himself' sums up the 2008 Presidential race. Such poor judgement will continue to paralyze the dems chances for success.

L Martin   September 13th, 2008 8:16 pm ET

Joe Biden is a good husband, a good father and accomplished Senator. Had he been the interviewed by Gibson or any other journalist, he could answer questions with depth and intelligence. None of the material would be new to him...not even the Bush pre-emptive strike policy . I genuinely like him.

Joan   September 13th, 2008 8:16 pm ET

This would be funny if it wasn't so pathetic. CNN is all democrat and can't stand it that a woman is so well liked who doesn't look like a mud fence. Joe Biden hasn't done anything for this country in 20 years.

dClaire   September 13th, 2008 8:17 pm ET

Obama – Biden 2008

I am in full agreement with former Mayor Koch , Sarah Palin scares me-

phillyart2wear   September 13th, 2008 8:18 pm ET

Sen. Biden is an Amazing Man that has served our Country well for all these Years. I bought his book as a gift for someone special.

Obama had many Great choices for which we should all be encouraged and Biden was right there at the top with the Best of them.
I'm thrilled that he has the job and we should all be Very Grateful that he, or Any of them, Really even Want it.

There has been a Lot of Lip Service going around in this Campaign from "Arm Chair" No It Alls and not ONE of them Would have the Guts to step up to the Plate and ttake the Job!

Adriana R Maxwell   September 13th, 2008 8:19 pm ET

Tryust me you got the better end of the deal.

Kay   September 13th, 2008 8:19 pm ET

It's about time someone on the Dem ticket is investigated. Obama is just sailing by without any investigations regarding his not so kosher friendships, let's see what Biden has hidden in his closet!

Chicagocarol   September 13th, 2008 8:19 pm ET

I'd like to know about his character. What would he do in dire situations? Would he be up for manipulation of the truth to perpetuate the "good face" or religious beliefs or "doctrine" (such as George W. has, that it's OK to preemptively strike a country, even if for a bogus reason) of his administration or himself, should he become president?

From his years of service for our country he appears to me to be trying for the truth, not trying to convince the American public through
manipulation.

But I'd like to hear the real goods from him. Will you please ask him the tough questions?

CB

PonyGirl   September 13th, 2008 8:20 pm ET

Looking forward to the story. I agree that it is time that we got to know him better.

Angela Tacoma Washington   September 13th, 2008 8:20 pm ET

I am so excited to learn more about Joe Biden and his family. I admire his love for his family and country and his strong voice in stating his opinion, .Obama and Biden will pull us out of the gutter and put us back on the road to a new direction,. I am looking forward to, holing my head up, and looking the world in the eyes again with out being ashamed of where we are now standing.

Lynn   September 13th, 2008 8:21 pm ET

Thank God we will be hearing something about Biden and not all the crap about Saah Palin (and her glasses).

Joe Biden has shown that he was a great husband and father and will make a wonderful Vice President. Obama made a great choice and they complement each other.

McCain just chose Sarah (after a few short meetings) thinking that most women would vote for him because he picked a woman Vice President. Well, I take exception to that because I, for one, believe that most women do not pick their candidates based on their gender but instead base their vote on the issues. It's a shame McCain thought we women didn't have sense enough to do that.

We do not need more of the last eight years. We need change and Obama will lead the country well!!!!

Go Obama!

Go Barack   September 13th, 2008 8:23 pm ET

We appreciate CNN giving good press to the Obama campaign (including Joe Biden) while denigrating Palin and McCain as frequently as possible. Please keep up the good work to influence the CNN audience into believe Obama is actually the better choice.

Marilyn   September 13th, 2008 8:25 pm ET

I'm really interested in learning more about Joe Biden. I really appreciate someone doing a report to let the american people know more of who he is. I can't wait to see it. Thanks.

ac   September 13th, 2008 8:26 pm ET

I can't wait to see the documentary. I think with all the Palinmania going on, we all know too little about Biden, and I guess the general feeling has (unfortunately) been that there's little to know.

I've noticed that he has an exceptional record when it comes to women's rights, but I'm not sure that message has come across enough.

carelessfills   September 13th, 2008 8:26 pm ET

DC of NJ "All one needs to know to decide between Obama and McCain is to compare the qualifications of the people they chose to be their VP – BIden was a terrific choice and, despite all the Republican bluster (and lies), Palin is a joke."

OBAMA IS THE BIGGEST JOKER OF THEM ALL. NO QUALIFICATIONS AT ALL AT THE TOP OF THE TICKET. IF YOU'RE SO WORRIED ABOUT PALIN AT THE BOOTOM OF THE TICKET, WHY DON'T YOU HAVE CONCERNS ABOUT THE EMPTY SUIT OBAMA?

Kevin   September 13th, 2008 8:26 pm ET

Saying that Joe Biden is more qualified than Sarah Palin is like saying a weekend in Vegas is more fun than six years in a Vietnamese prison camp.

Hillary Supporter for Obama   September 13th, 2008 8:27 pm ET

I can't wait to see this wonderful documentary. I know for sure that I trust Biden's judgement over Palin's. I'm sorry. I just don't know enough about her to make up my mind. I am also angry that McCain wanted up to make up our mind about trusting the VP person in a matter of weeks.

mj   September 13th, 2008 8:29 pm ET

Anything is better than Hilary

Evelyn in Ala.   September 13th, 2008 8:30 pm ET

Sen. Joe Biden has a really impressive life story and is a very smart man. His years of service on Foreign Relations definitely qualify him for the Vice-Pres.'s job or even the White House. Palen is a religious fanatic who doesn't seem to believe in science. She could be dangerous if she ever got to the top job. Scares me to death!

Sue Ellen Clark   September 13th, 2008 8:32 pm ET

Joe Biden! A perfect pick by Obama, and I know they will make a very strong team.

I believe you've surely enjoyed learning about this remarkable man.

Never Again!!!   September 13th, 2008 8:32 pm ET

Sen. Biden is a man of integrity, not a corrupt politician. You can tell from the assets that he has. We need someone like him to work with Sen. Obama in the White House.

For the last eight, I have been sorry for the vote that I cast to George Bush. I am a republican but will vote to democrat this time. Never again I will be fooled by people like Bush. McCain has all the George Bush policies and then he claims that he will bring change , with his 7 lobbyists working with him? Give me a break!

tim   September 13th, 2008 8:37 pm ET

how can we be so stupid to vote for a man who is using a woman to get women votes. sarah was chosen just to get women votes. i hope we women are not that crazy to fall in the trap of stupid, idiot old man.

Go Obama/Biden.

Oja   September 13th, 2008 8:38 pm ET

Yes, go ahead and reveal Biden in -full. Americans want CHANGE and they know that only OBAMA-Biden Ticket will bring the CHANGE, but Palin is dominating the media because Americans want to listen to her sharp arguments only for fun, it doesn't affect the slogan of "THE CHANGE WE CA BELIEVE IN".

southern   September 13th, 2008 8:39 pm ET

Joe Biden is a decent man.
I would especially like to see how he backs the Democratic Party Platform, but is supposedly a good Catholic.

But Sarah Palin is a decent woman.
People here who continue to perpetrate DNC talking points about her do not help the national discussion. There really are some partisan hacks that populate these threads. They complain that Mrs Palin is a liar while it is they who are the liars.

I look forward to a fact based documentary on Joe.

CeeJay   September 13th, 2008 8:40 pm ET

Looking forward to Sen Biden's peice. Decent, honest, hardworking people unfortunately don't get enough attention. Tired of the SP Media Coverage so I won't watch that one!

Ben G.   September 13th, 2008 8:41 pm ET

You people have yet to look at her accomplishments, and have down played her achievements. She would be great for the economy, considering she cut spending by half a billion, and just think what she could do on a large scale, and no she didn't cut spending for handicap, she actually tripled it. So we know where she stands. She also redirected the money from the bridge to nowhere to the infrastructure that it takes to improve the economy. She also took on big oil, and gave each and every person in her state $1200.00. She drastically reduce earmark spending, while Obama has spent close to a billion. So people should get the story straight. They should do a little digging on Obama and Biden. She has taken on the issues that Americans have been talking about for way to long.. Failing bridges, excessive spending, and corruption. The trooper gate controversy is a joke...People hate this woman and pre-judged her before they even knew her, and the American people know. So half of the dirt that is being pulled on her wont work. So...Lets be fair...

Jennifer Hull   September 13th, 2008 8:41 pm ET

Yea Joe! He has been my favorite from the start! He is smart self-effacing, kind , doesn't seek to ram his views down anyones's throat, and yes, he does have that smile that lights up a room. What a beautiful antidote to 8 years of Dick Cheney!

Obama is a gifted young man, but he will surely benefit from the wise council of Joe Biden, a class act to the nth degree!

Janet   September 13th, 2008 8:43 pm ET

I am a huge supporter of Biden and am glad to see he is getting some attention that he deserves. His story is incredible and he has impeccably qualifications. Thanks for bringing his story to your viewers. We need to know who these people are are, what they really stand for, and what their true accomplishments are so that we can make an informed and rational decision this time.

Love of Jesus   September 13th, 2008 8:43 pm ET

The fact that Obama picked Biden over Hillary for VP shows that Obama cares more for the much needed foreign policy experience of the VP than his or her 'advertisement' potential. Obama is a responsible man, not a McCain.

Sam Locklear Jr.   September 13th, 2008 8:43 pm ET

I believe that the media should spend more time covering the issues rather than the personalities,. Our health care system, our Banking system, our energy program, our social security system, our home owners market, our tax system and careing for the poor and middle class. Those that have weath need no assistance, but those less fortunate do.

Jodi of Portland, OR   September 13th, 2008 8:46 pm ET

Joan-you said:

" This would be funny if it wasn’t so pathetic. CNN is all democrat and can’t stand it that a woman is so well liked who doesn’t look like a mud fence. Joe Biden hasn’t done anything for this country in 20 years. "

Not only is your comment race-biased obviously, but those who are unclear on what a candidates accomplishments are ( as in Biden ), should just stay home in November. Biden is well-known for the lowest crime rates the US attained in the 90's in the Clinton admin when he proposed, and was vocal on, the increased police force on our streets. You are ignorant if you don't believe this. Biden has also accomplished too many, and pushed for even more, bills that help and have helped the middle-class tax-paying citizens of this country.

Biden is more than a typical politician–he is a statesman too.

Jenn   September 13th, 2008 8:47 pm ET

Abbie, I think your assignment was the better one! At least you got to talk to him as Palin would not talk to CNN. Joe has led a very interesting life and there is alot about him that people don't know. He was a young father who had to raise two little boys on his own after his wife and daughter were killed in an accident. He also had to bounce back from two near fatal brain aneurysms. He never got rich off of being in politics. Palin may have gotten lots of attention so far but that will change. Her interview with Charlie Gibson showed her to be an inexperienced deer in headlights. Joe has so much more experience between dealing with wars in Kosovo to Iraq. He was the much better choice and is not some flash in the pan.

Independent Voter   September 13th, 2008 8:47 pm ET

Joe Biden is a true reformer: the various legislation he has helped pass into law (e.g. VAWA, etc.) have proven time and again that he can work with both sides in getting important things done in D.C.

Biden has always been a champion of the average working person and his support of labor and working families stands in stark contrast to that of elitist McCain and Sarah Palin. Biden is not by any means a wealthy politician and I know he will help Sen. Obama get things back on track in our nation.

In addition to the aforementioned, Biden has an understanding of foreign policy that makes McCain look like a lightweight. There is no comparison between them. Biden wins handily on the issue of experience.

Thanks for the story about Biden.

God Bless.

Carolyn   September 13th, 2008 8:48 pm ET

As a resident of Philadelphia PA Joe Biden is nearly cosidered to be PA senator, after all he is a Catholic guy from Scranton PA. I think very highly of him for his determination, knowledge and charater. People will see through your documentary that he is really one of us. I had one of those rare experiences to be sitting near him on an Amtrak train from Washington. He does know every conductor by their first name.

Dorothy   September 13th, 2008 8:51 pm ET

The nearly complete absence of coverage of Joe Biden on CNN has been an outrage. Tonight's documentary doesn't really remedy the absurdly unequal attention you've given him to date, compared to Sarah Pailin. Moreover, your newscasts always seem to lead with a presentation of the latest McCain ad and reaction to it. What is going on here???

adam   September 13th, 2008 8:51 pm ET

I'm glad to hear this documentary will be available. I'm getting so sick of the bickering back and forth and how it effects the media coverage and ultimately public opinion. There are so many serious issues that need to be discussed and explained to voters before this election. I think well thought out, in depth reports about the candidates is exactly what we need.
As for more biased opinions, I am eager to hear about Biden because so little is out there about him. I am not a real fan of policy from the other side, but to be fair I think some concrete, unbiased reports of Palin should be done as well as this piece on Biden. I may not agree with her policies (from what I've heard so far) but the vast majority of what is reported has little to do with their plans if elected. Either way, I'm really glad your documentary on Biden will be available, we need more pieces like it available before November!

Liz   September 13th, 2008 8:52 pm ET

Kevin, you are sooo right! Palin is a joke and I feel sorry for the idiots that think she isn't. Lets all have 6 kids and have them all have ten kids and the world will be great.

Callan   September 13th, 2008 8:53 pm ET

Good! I'm glad someone is focusing on Biden. It seems that since Hillary was not picked as VP, and Palin was nominated, Biden has been shoved out of the spotlight because he isn't "exciting" enough. But why do our politicians have to be media darlings and celebrities nowadays?

I like Biden because he is the most qualified person on both tickets. He does his job, and can back up his words.

Peter Oogu   September 13th, 2008 8:55 pm ET

You're on a justified cause to reveal the truth about Joe. Joe is probably the dearest blessings Americans'll have in the next four yrs. But as the old saying goes "empty drums" make a lot of noise, that is exactly the case with PALIN.

CT Voter   September 13th, 2008 8:55 pm ET

The woman who wrote "Joe Biden hasn’t done anything for this country in 20 years," obviously hasn't done anything to LEARN about the candidates May I suggest a quick google search for "Joe Biden, domestic violence" followed by "John McCain calls wife a c***."

codeman1964   September 13th, 2008 8:56 pm ET

Funny how American women vote, they adore Bill Clinton, a known objectivizer of women and they hate Sarah Palin...MEEOOOWW!

George   September 13th, 2008 8:58 pm ET

Wow! What a Biden love-fest.
I would like to know the real Joe too. I guess he is not the condescending, bombastic, sarcastic, narcissistic, pseudo-intellect, presumptuous twit he acts like. He is a male version of Nancy Peloci.
Bravado does not translate into ability; Biden is nothing more than a political bully-boy who seems to have a like following.

ron from Georgia   September 13th, 2008 9:01 pm ET

I have watched and followed politics since , before President Kennedy was assassinated during my 4th grade. I watched conventions on a black and white TV. I voted for Hillary and I still think she will be a driving force in American politics for years to come.
I have tried to find out as much as I can about Obama and Biden and I believe their ideas have the best chance of giving America what it has been missing for the last 8 years.
1. Respect and a leadership role in the global community.
2. Returning our economy and budget to where it was in 2000.
3. I want my children and their children to know what it like to have a quality education.
4. I would to see myself and my fellow Americans enjoy decent paying jobs and be able to walk with our heads held high.
5. I don't mind paying taxes if it is for the greater good.

As a two Vietnam era vet and a Gulf war era vet, I would like to thank John McCain and I think Gov. Palin did what she had to do for Alaska, but we have to do what is right and not get sidetracked by
sensationalism in our politics.

Barack's ideas and Joe's experience compliments each other and I think their truly want to talk about the real issues and how we all can work together to solve them.

to the Republican Party:
My 21 year daughter is excited by electoral process and the way it should be, but recently told me she was tired of the negative poitical ads. Please stop!
thanks

funny guy   September 13th, 2008 9:03 pm ET

whos is this silly guy who said Biden is a Statesman ?

Dear friend, he is seasoned politician, who could merely get 9000 votes in primaries, but he rightly made a assessment that Hillary must've been the VP choice.

To me, Hillary must've been running for Presidentship.

Look the way Obama paid tribute at Ground Zero by throwing "flower", someone must have told him that was a sacred place to many, and its a "tribute" to those who died 7 years ago, it was not Rezko's club.

J, FL   September 13th, 2008 9:03 pm ET

I was excited myself when Obama picked Biden to be his running mate. I was excited until I started remembering what a loose cannon he is, and I don't want him in office. I took it further and did alot of research. He is as partisan as they come, and has been in Washington for over 30 years. Mc Cain has a history of reaching across the aisle to get stuff accomplished. Palin has done the same thing on a smaller scale, but that doesn't disqualify her from being able to take on Washington, and do stuff on a national level. The message from Obama is old and worn out for me. His message is old and worn out. I just don't care what he says anymore.

American abroad   September 13th, 2008 9:04 pm ET

Joe Biden has come across as a great family man, a wonderful public servant, and a clever person.

It would be a blessing to our nation if he becomes the next VP.

Jodi of Portland, OR   September 13th, 2008 9:05 pm ET

CT voter: thank you. That is exactly right. If every woman researched Joe Biden's record on women's issues, and John McCain's, as well as Palin's record on women's issues, they'd see what we are referring to.

McCain and Palin both are the most anti-women candidates running!!

Biden Supporter   September 13th, 2008 9:07 pm ET

Joe Biden will be a superb vice president and would be a great president. He is mature and knowledgeable. We can trust that he knows what is going on in the world and will do the right thing for this country, not just for himself. The choice of Biden as VP also shows once again how intelligent and thoughtful Barack Obama is. He is not distracted by hype and slander. He thought carefully and chose the best person for the job.

ron from Georgia   September 13th, 2008 9:12 pm ET

here is another story , How many more times will we find out something was said to make her look the part and then we find out the truth. fact are facts and I have had enough. If she telling these half-truths, it is bad for McCain and if the campaign is it also bad for McCain and the country. how can you trust them anymore??

CNN) – Sarah Palin did not visit troops in Iraq, a spokesperson for the Republican VP nominee confirmed Saturday, as new details emerged about the extent of the Alaska governor’s foreign travel.

In July of last year, Palin left North America for the first time to visit Alaskan troops stationed in Kuwait. Palin officials originally said her itinerary included U.S. military installations or outposts in Germany and Kuwait, and that she had visited Ireland. An Alaska spokeswoman for Palin had said Iraq was also one of the stops on that trip.

The Boston Globe reported Saturday that Palin visited the Iraqi side of a border crossing — but never journeyed past the checkpoint.

Earlier: McCain defends Palin's experience level

Earlier, campaign aides confirmed reports that Palin’s time in Ireland on that trip had actually been a re-fueling stop.

Brad   September 13th, 2008 9:13 pm ET

Yes, let's do talk about Joe Biden...about why this old man, who is a lifetime politician, been in DC for 36 years, who's gaffe-prone, who they've been hiding from the media so he won't make Obama's falling poll numbers accelerate, would be chosen to be the running mate for the "change" ticket. Let's grill him on primetime TV like Palin with some stern old crone looking down his nose at him and asking him every conceivable question designed to make him look like an idiot. They won't do it because it would be a disaster, that's why.

Clark in Austin   September 13th, 2008 9:17 pm ET

It seems, report or not, people are making their selection based on ideas and beliefs relative to BOTH candidates which are completely false. Palin and McCrutch are no more "mavericks" in the repubilcan fold anymore than Obama is a muslim. But nonetheless, people believe what they want to believe and pay little attention to the efforts of good reporters.

I hope and pray I'm wrong, but these last couple of weeks since the RNC, I'm convinced people today will chose style over substance any day of the week and "twice on Sunday" as my uncle use to say.

John   September 13th, 2008 9:19 pm ET

I've heard Joe Biden speak about politics and his family. When he speaks about his family, he tends to ramble, but in a very loving and emotional kind of way. I really like that about him. And when Biden speaks about politics, I get a feeling that he cares about me and my issues even though we've never met. I believe I understand why Obama chose Biden as his running mate. Biden is me, the average Joe, except with the power to make his voice heard.

Mike Austin   September 13th, 2008 9:20 pm ET

It will be good to see an in-depth look and interview with Senator Joe Biden. The release of his tax records and his overall senatorial record has shown that he is ready to be a vice-president. I think it is a shame that he is not getting as much media coverage as the flavor of the month(SARAH PALIN) I agree......Obama/Biden 2008!

gracey   September 13th, 2008 9:22 pm ET

thank you cnn.
it is about time.

to hear a bout sarah is so obnoxious.

Solyd   September 13th, 2008 9:23 pm ET

The tides have turned after the introduction of Sarah Louise Heath Palin into this historic race. The tides won't go back to Pro-Obama constituents. After the final debates in which the shocking prowess of Palin is displayed, we will by a narrow margin welcome our new President John Sidney McCain III and Vice President Sarah Palin.

It is amazing how the left carries around so much hatred that whenever anyone threatens to bring conservative values into the conversation they go ballistic.
Hypoctrical, hate filled, left wing kooks.

Just the fact that people know him simply as Joe shows you his roots as a man of the people. He says exactly what he thinks and is the most honest politician in Washington. He is extremely knowledgeable about foreign affairs and can relate to the numerous problems that we are having in this country, including lack of health care for all, the loss of jobs to companies that build their plants overseas, the continued loss of 10 Billion dollars a day in Iraq while the Muslim fanatics regroup in Afganistan, and the fact that we are falling behind other countries in new ideas, including a real plan to become energy independent. I wish the American People would wake up and recognize the greatness of one of its own everyday warriors fighting for a better life for all of us.

Biden, Obama, and McCain started their campaign for President more than 2 years ago. They've been working and going through the challenges for a long time. Palin got to where she is because of a phone call. I'm sorry, but just because she makes Walmart moms good reading material doesn't mean she deserves the nomination. There are other female Republican candidates more qualified and than her: Mary Bono Mack, Lisa Murkowski, Kay Bailey Hutchison, Katherine Harris, Judy Biggert, Deborah Pryce. And each of them had EARNED their credibility.

Michael   September 13th, 2008 9:28 pm ET

How humble and selfless he was when he said ‘Hillary may have been a better choice than himself’ for the better cause for this country?
The most beautiful hearts are always confused like this. Only lunatic has 100% self confidence which could detroy this planet.

Anti-Obama Illinoisan   September 13th, 2008 9:28 pm ET

I think you should have included subtitles. Here are some possibilities:

"Biden Revealed . . . To Be A Plagiarist"

"Biden Revealed . . . As Inferior to Hillary (By His Own Admission)"

"Biden Revealed . . . As Racially Insensitive To 7-11 Managers"

"Biden Revealed . . . As the Running Mate of the 'Clean, Articulate' Obama"

Jill   September 13th, 2008 9:28 pm ET

For information on Joe Biden, read his book "Promises to Keep". I am currently reading it. I am so impressed with him as a person. He is a man who defines integrity. The book is straight from his heart. Unlike John McCain who constantly tells everyone about his being a POW, Joe Biden does not go into detail about the tragedy with his first wife and child. The book does show you just what kind of person he is and what kind of people his family are. His family says "If you have to ask, it's too late". They jump in and help. Joe Biden is a man who sincerely desires to help people.

DE   September 13th, 2008 9:30 pm ET

Maybe we will learn about the plagiarism in Biden's first presidential run, or was it the second, or third I don't remember which. Iknow it wasn't the last, because he actually got 9000 votes before dropping out of the race. On the plus side, his son Hunter resigned his lobbyist position while his dad is running for vice-president. And to be fair, I know having a son who has been a Washington lobbyist, to the Senate, for the last 7 years is not near the conflict of interest that having an unmarried 17 year old daughter is. On foreign policy, his so-called expertise, he voted for the war, then declared the war lost, then demanded the USA run away by October 1 of this year, then came up with a plan that would split Iraq into three seperate ethnic regions, all the while loudly proclaming that the surge was an absolute failure. EXPERTISE? With this expertise we just as well buy al-qaeda new airplanes with his and Obama's tax increase.

steve   September 13th, 2008 9:31 pm ET

Biden was NOT a poor choice. Hillary's tough, but had Obama chosen her, he would've been accused of making the choice just to win, particularly given how negative she went on him during the primary. Biden will make it happen. He knows his stuff and is a good man.

Brad Maryland   September 13th, 2008 9:31 pm ET

I hope he agrees to have nothing off limits, like Palin did with Gibson. If anything less, I'd be disapointed. Nonetheless it will be an interesting documentary to watch. Also, in terms of lies, I think Palin has the most being spread about her right now. Whether that be leaks from Obama campaign or not, they need to be corrected (as with the ones about Obama). Many are even mentioned on this board as fact, they are not and CNN has indeed disproved the book one.

blaheleven   September 13th, 2008 9:33 pm ET

Obama's choice of Biden is extremely revealing: He wants a colleague who brings a wealth of knowledge to the table. He wants a colleague who is not afraid to challenge him on his positions. He wants a colleague who truly has the middle-class's best interests at heart.

Obama's choice of Joe Biden shows him to be a forward-thinking, intellectually-hungry, agent of change–change from the shoot-from-the-hip, crony-favoring, short-sighted President who has been in office for the past 8 years.

McCain on the other hand....well let's just say that McCain's choice of Palin is extremely revealing as well....

Karl Frank   September 13th, 2008 9:34 pm ET

I hope you include his face to face conversation with Slobodan Milosevic when he looked him in the eye and said, "I think you are a damn war criminal." That was the beginning of the end for Milosevic. :)

Nancy   September 13th, 2008 9:35 pm ET

I think Biden said it right: Hillary would be a better choice. Obama couldn't even pick a good running mate. How can he run this country??? And why is everybody picking on Palin? I wasn't registered to vote but this is making me do so. I hope more people wake up, women especially.

Need An Unbiasedmedia   September 13th, 2008 9:35 pm ET

Governor Palin has eight years of executive experience, BIDEN HAS NONE. Palin has supervised people and departments, submitted budgets, created policies and governed people. BIDEN HAS NOT. Biden used someone else's speech as his own, made a fool out of himself time after time (telling a parapalegic to stand up; making fun of Indian-Americans; ect), used his wife and daughter's tragic death for his own political purposes. Palin is far more qualified to be NUMBER 2 than Biden.

david   September 13th, 2008 9:35 pm ET

As always, how revealing to see between obama and biden they give $2500 to charity in 2006!! Liberals love to give "our money" but they won't give their own. For all the talk about how they care for the disenfranchised when it comes to their own pocketbooks they really show they do not care at all. How could we possibly elect two people who by their tax returns show they are so selfish they can't afford to give the needy any of their money. In that same year on a much smaller salary my family alone gave almost $20,000 to different charities, I not mean it bragging, its what we all should do. The dems are such hypocrites and one final point. What does it say about your management skills when you have been making all that money for over 30 years as biden has and his estate is worth $150,000, you have to try hard to not be worth more than that making what he makes. David

Gadsone's Flag   September 13th, 2008 9:36 pm ET

According to Pew Global:

"Beyond focusing on the historic nature of Palin's selection to be McCain's running mate, much of the media's coverage dealt with Palin's background – both personal and professional. The public picked up on various storylines to differing degrees. News that Palin's 17 year-old-daughter is pregnant registered widely with the public. Nearly seven-in-ten (69%) say they heard a lot about Palin's daughter, making the story one of the year's top campaign events. More people say they heard a lot about Palin's pregnant daughter than about speeches by Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Obama's former pastor, in May (62%)."

The media attacks on Palin and her family have been particularly bitter. Especially since some it has been vectored towards Bristol Palin. A truly devious tactic indeed.

A. Chico   September 13th, 2008 9:39 pm ET

I have noticed that Senator Obama and Sen. Biden are what I call "fair weather" politicians. When they are ahead in the polls, they behave with class but also with an arrogant sense of entitlement. They behave as if the election is theirs by birthright and nobody could question that. But when the polls start to go against them, the attitude changes inmediately. They start to shoot "from the hip", not prepared for a dip in the polls. Slander becomes the new tactic and a sense of incredulity runs thru their campaign. "How can this happen?", they ask. "The election was supposed to be the official seal of our coronation!". Sarah Palin, even if you don't like her, has accomplished something very important. She has shown the democrats that they are entitled to nothing, no matter how bad things may be. Got it?

Jim Dawson   September 13th, 2008 9:44 pm ET

Biden was a mistake. Dems keep shooting themselves in the foot one after another. With no-talent, no-leadership potential, lobby-controlled people like Biden, they cannot win the election. We're in the middle of a two wars. We don't need people who have never served their country in uniform to call the shots. You saw what happened with Rumsfeld and his ilk. We need true veterans and patriots. I personally would have liked to see Powell and McCain team up. I don't know much about Palin, but I suppose we'll soon find out. Biden is no mystery. The guy was caught stealing another guy's lines and bio, and still managed to stay in office. Some people have no shame or compunction. It's people like him that give the politics a bad name.

60 Year Old   September 13th, 2008 9:44 pm ET

Well, reading all these comments, I've decided to finally send
my first one!

Are you people living in the same country that I am, the great
US of A? When did we lower our standards for President as
we have this election? We've got an inexperienced Obama
and an angry old man McCain! Obama runs scared and picks
the old establishment Biden. McCain picks the unknown Palin.

When I look at it, Palin the VP choice, is the only one with any
sort of Executive experience and she's getting raked over the
"NEWS MEDIA" coals. I knew nothing about her, but she's
starting to look like the best of the 4!

Forget your political party and look at what is happening in this
world today and make an intelligent choice whatever that is for you.

We need to quit fighting and woory about this great country!

No Mccain Palin   September 13th, 2008 9:45 pm ET

Mccain is not fit for president role in America. He is not change. He cannot reform as "Old dog cannot learn new tricks", not literally with all due respect to him. His pick of Palin shows how opportunistic he is about his political career, sure not for the best of the country. If truly "country first", he would have Palin come into public eyes long before so that she can be examed thouroughly. Palin effect is just a distraction from talking about the real issues. Repulicants have nothing to say about the issues as Bush's record in the past 8 years have said it all.
I hope your coverage on Biden will steer the election back on talking about the issues. We are not voting for American Idols, I hope Americans are smart enought this time to make the right decisions.

congradulations on the coolest assignment you are on and good luck to you, Good luck to all and America ! Good lucks do not just come to us, we need to make educated decisions. Fair media coverage on the campaign can help !

JB in Ohio   September 13th, 2008 9:46 pm ET

Joe Biden has been a good life long senator. He also has his baggage…He was a good strategic political pick for Obama who is lacking in the experience category that Joe Biden balances nicely. I am a life long republican who supported Obama in the primary but have since decided that I will go back and vote republican as I don’t feel the same way about Obam since the Reverend Wright story came out. (His lack of honesty in his response to the story is what is at issue for me) I think there is a lot of baggage each side may bring up and it is silly to me when I read these comments. There is mud to sling on both sides.

CNN and MSNBC are embedded in the Obama campaign. I miss Tim Russert as he tried to be balanced in his questioning and reporting. I miss his style of journalism.

Joe Biden: Wrong on Iran, Inconsistent on Israel

A risky choice just got riskier

Washington, D.C. (August 27, 2008) - With the selection of Sen. Joe Biden as Sen. Obama's vice president, the Democrat's ticket has now become an even greater gamble for the Jewish community. Throughout his career, Sen. Biden has consistently been wrong on Iran and his voting record on Israel has been inconsistent. Like Obama, Biden fundamentally misunderstands the threat posed by an Iran determined to obtain nuclear weapons. Biden has continuously demonstrated poor judgment on Iran. He has voted against significant legislation that would pressure Iran to stop pursuing nuclear weapons. Biden has failed to recognize the serious threat that Iran poses to Israel and the U.S. and its allies in the Middle East.

Biden Votes Wrong on Iran:

November 2007, Kyl-Lieberman Resolution, 76-22: Like Obama, Biden was one of the few senators to oppose the bipartisan 2007 Kyl-Lieberman Amendment labeling the Iranian Revolutionary Guard a terrorist organization. Democratic senators supporting the bipartisan resolution: Sen. Clinton (D-NY), Sen. Reid (D-NV), Sen. Durbin (D-IL), and Sen. Levin (D-MI).
June 2004, Letter Urging the President to Highlight Iran's Nuclear Program at the G-8 Summit, 66 Signers: Biden did not sign this important letter which had 66 co-signers.
May 1998, Iran Missile Proliferation Sanctions Act, 90-4: In 1998, Biden was one of only four senators to vote against the Iran Missile Proliferation Sanctions Act, a bill that punished foreign companies or other entities that sent Iran sensitive missile technology or expertise.

Biden's Inconsistent Record on Israel:

June 2008, Landrieu/Collins Letter to President Bush Supporting Israel's Quest for Peace; 77 Signers: Biden did not sign this pro-Israel letter that had 77 signers.
December 2005, Talent/Nelson Letter Urging President Bush to Press Palestinian Leadership to Bar Terrorist Groups from Participating in Palestinian Legislative Elections; 73 Co-signers: Biden did not sign this letter barring terror groups from participating in Palestinian elections. The letter had 73 co-signers.
March 2004, Schumer-Hatch-Clinton-Smith Letter Urging Kofi Annan to Reverse Support for ICJ Hearings on the Security Fence; 79 Signers: Biden did not sign this letter urging Kofi Annan to reverse support for the International Court of Justice Hearings on the Security Fence. The letter had 79 signers.
November 2001, Bond/Schumer Letter Urging President Not to Meet with Arafat until the Violence Ends, 89 Signers: Biden did not sign this letter urging President Bush not to meet with Arafat until Palestinian violence ceased. The letter had 89 signers.
March 1998, Mack/Lieberman Letter Urging the Clinton Administration Not to Pressure Israel; 82 Signers: Biden did not sign this pro-Israel letter that had 77 signers.
May 1993, Kennedy/Grassley Letter Urging President to Press Syria let Syrian Jews Leave; 73 Signers: In 1993, Sen. Biden refused to sign this letter calling on Syria to allow Syrian Jews to leave Syria. Ultimately, 73 signers approved.

Joe Biden Threatens to Cut Off US Aid to Israel in 1982
(Commentary Magazine, Aug. 26, 2008 citing the Jerusalem Post, March 13, 1992)

"In a conversation with Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan, after a sharp confrontation in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on the subject of the settlements, Begin defined himself as 'a proud Jew who does not tremble with fear' when speaking with foreign statesmen. During that committee hearing, at the height of the Lebanon War, Sen. John Biden (Delaware) had attacked Israeli settlements in Judea and Samaria and threatened that if Israel did not immediately cease this activity, the US would have to cut economic aid to Israel. When the senator raised his voice and banged twice on the table with his fist, Begin commented to him: 'This desk is designed for writing, not for fists. Don't threaten us with slashing aid. Do you think that because the US lends us money it is entitled to impose on us what we must do? We are grateful for the assistance we have received, but we are not to be threatened. I am a proud Jew. Three thousand years of culture are behind me, and you will not frighten me with threats. Take note: we do not want a single soldier of yours to die for us.' After the meeting, Sen. Moynihan approached Begin and praised him for his cutting reply. To which Begin answered with thanks, defining his stand against threats.

Joe Biden on John McCain and Barack Obama
(From National Review Online, Jim Geraghty, August 20, 2008)

Biden, on a post-debate appearance on MSNBC, October 30, 2007: "The only guy
on the other side who's qualified is John McCain."

Biden appearing on The Daily Show, August 2, 2005: "John McCain is a
personal friend, a great friend, and I would be honored to run with or
against John McCain, because I think the country would be better off, be
well off no matter who..."

Assessing Obama's Iraq plan on September 13, 2007: "My impression is [Obama]
thinks that if we leave, somehow the Iraqis are going to have an epiphany"
of peaceful coexistence among warring sects. "I've seen zero evidence of
that."

Also from that Observer interview: "But – and the 'but' was clearly
inevitable – he doubts whether American voters are going to elect 'a
one-term, a guy who has served for four years in the Senate,' and added: 'I
don't recall hearing a word from Barack about a plan or a tactic.'"

Around that time, Biden in an interview with the Huffington Post, he
assessed Obama and Hillary Clinton: "The more people learn about them (Obama
and Hillary) and how they handle the pressure, the more their support will
evaporate."

DLG   September 13th, 2008 9:53 pm ET

Sounds like from reading many of the comments here that the Obamaites are reading from the same script trying to convince us all that they're excited to learn about Mr. Biden. Do they not have enough wherewithall to research and find out for themselves rather than to take the media's twisted word on what their views are of the man. Come on people! Grow a backbone and learn for yourself. The media & the Obama camp will only will tell you what THEY want you to know. When I read what people have written and try to feel their 'so called' enthusiam, it makes me feel like I'm viewing a commerical on television with very poor actors trying to convince me to buy a product that they'd never use a day in their life.

Jody Mcg   September 13th, 2008 9:54 pm ET

Sarah Palin did not give an interview for this piece. Other than the Gibson interview and limited appearances doubt we'll see much of her since she is only able to repeat the same lines over and over and she can't think on her feet. She only knows the answers she has rehearsed and practiced covering her up for her lack of experience.
For a woman she adheres to the "ole boy network" in her state which she will carry into Washington same as Bush. See the in depth article in the NY Times "Once Elected, Palin hired Friends, Fired Foes." I guess we'll end up with other unqualified appointies like FEMA director during Katrina "heck of a job Brownie". Oh yeah, and she declined the interview with the NY Times also.

Reese of NC   September 13th, 2008 9:54 pm ET

I am really looking forward to Joe Biden's documentary. I got a taste of what he was like from the DNC convention and a stump speech he gave last week and I really like him. I seems very kind hearted and passionate about changing the state of this country. I love how he is with his family. I am watching Sarah Palin's story now and unfortunately I am not getting much out of it.

MOONMAIDEN FROM LAKE MICHIGAN   September 13th, 2008 9:54 pm ET

START READING, INVESTIGATING AND QUIT LOOKING FOR OTHER PEOPLE TO GIVE YOU THE ANSWERS.GET INVOLVED, READ, STUDY BECAUSE YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT AND NOW AT HTIS HISTORICAL TIME IS THE ESSENCE.
TO BE NAIVE IS JUST PLAIN LAZY AND MAY I SAY IGNORANT.
THINK FOR YOURSELF.

D Hawk   September 13th, 2008 9:59 pm ET

Biden was actually very honest in his response that Hillary may have been a better VP choice. Some say that signifies poor judgment on the part of Obama in choosing Biden over Palin. However, Barack's choice demonstrates sound judgment in that while he would have been wise to choose Hillary to win the election easily, he would have endured a complex and perhaps counterproductive tenure with Bill and Hillary in the mix. While winning with Biden may be more of a challenge, the White House will be more functional and better for everyone.

Brew   September 13th, 2008 9:59 pm ET

Never having missed a vote in any election since voting for Harry Truman in 1948, and never voting strict party lines.I think Joe Biden was the best nominee in either party and am extremely happy he was chosen as the Dem running mate.McCain is an honorable person but Lord help us in this chaotic world if he does not last his term. Biden will help Obama with his foreign policy experience, and Obama will be a 190 degree turn in all facets of government with what has been the worst administration in this countriy's history.

Rick   September 13th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

It's funny...I could take what a previous respondent wrote, switch the names, and you would see how we Republicans feel about the Dems shallow Presidential candidate:

"A light should spark on his achievements. Media coverage has been drawn toward Obama not really because he’s accomplished anything to my knowledge but because of his “historic” stance as a african-american presidential candidate."

Funny isn't it..what a double standard!!!

Bob   September 13th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

Everyone in the country knows that CNN is about as left wing democrat as you can get with the disguise of having some "characters" and some good reporters to create a facade that they are balanced. What Baloney!!!

Senator, Joseph Biden. A face that never goes away in Washington. You always see the guy. Be it CSPAN or at some hearing on a bill, pontificating vociferously! The man loves to hear his own voice. Americans have been seeing Joe Biden for over 20+ years. Bottom line. They don't care about him one way or the other. Except in tiny, I mean small, Delaware, The American People have NO FEELINGS for the man. Mr. 1% Joe Biden. How many presidential campaigns has he be involved in only to bow out quickly because he does not resonate with the voters. Look at the present, he now has only 5-6 reporters riding along with him. He isn't even a meat and potato guy, he is just a potato guy. No flavor! Even Al Gore is a bacon guy with some flavor although the color of the bacon looks green.

Let me guess: you folks at CNN will turn Mr. Potato Joe into John Kennedy before its over. Isn't nice to remake someone's image into the one you are trying to see blue collar american on. And what will you do with Alaska (Big, very, very big with energy resources to bank on) Governor Sarah Palin. You will remake her into someone worse than the Wicked Witch in the Wizard of Oz. I'm just so glad that the "non- ivy league educated elite, which make up most of this nation, love a woman who can fish, hunt, have a brood of kids, have a blue collar good-looking oil field husband that has won the 2000 mile snowmobile race in the worst weather on this planet on 4 separate occasions and still take on the "real men – politicians" and kick their butts.

Poeple, please take it upon yourself to look for the facts and

Tennessee   September 13th, 2008 10:07 pm ET

1 – Obama says He want's change yet, he pick as VP, someone who is part of the problem. I agree, Biden does have a great smile!

2- Have you heard Gov. Palin say, from HER mouth, she was in Iraq!!
I heard only Kuwait.

3- Our problems for years, we send representive's to Washington and all at once they forget all the LIES they told us to get there. No way do their actions come close to what they told us they would do.

4- Please, please everyone, the media is lying to us or they use only part of the truth because the entire statement is not interesting enough to keep you watching. iT'S CALLED RATING!!!

5-We have to double check what the media reports and we definitely have to challange them for the truth and hold the US representatives ACCOUNTABLE. The candidates for president are telling you soooooo many things they will do for America but what they are saying is far more power than they will ever have. The REFORM we need is in the Captial building. In deed, the president has power, certainly don't mean to minimize or mislead that point.

6- We need term limits. Two terms for congress and one term for senators. After one term, they can run again. It's time, it's time WE THE PEOPLE take back our country.

7 – We need to be very careful in reading these blogs, I don't believe I have ever read so much hate, yes, hate!! Our country can survive policiians but we can survive ALL THE HATE!!

Sincerely,

WE THE PEOPLE

I have to compliment Jesse from a few entries up. I am so pleased to see someone citing evidence rather than what is being spoon-fed to them by CNN or Fox. Thank you for doing real research!

Doug   September 13th, 2008 10:12 pm ET

Everyone keeps talking about how 'qualified' Sen. Biden is for a top leadership position. He is a career politician who never held a real job. He never actually 'ran' anything in his life. How is that qualified?

McCain is a decorated military officer, and Palin has years of experience running a business, a town and a state. At least they have experience actually doing something instead of just talking.

Kennedy   September 13th, 2008 10:13 pm ET

Too bad Biden wasn't on the top of the ticket. That bigoted church thing was too much for me.

Unknown   September 13th, 2008 10:14 pm ET

Ya, really 60 Year Old, I wish the rest of the country thougth the same way. I've been into politics as far back as the 70's and I think this is one of the most important elections since. To bad the media is all one sided with what the real truth is. I guess people are too busy playing computer games that to know what the real issues are. Country first, believe in our leader even in tough times, support all of our men and wemon in the armed services. Once the world understands that we are all united then they will look BETTER at the U.S., and not so much who is sitting in the Oval Office.

Mary   September 13th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

"Joe Biden hasn’t done anything for this country in 20 years."

Any woman who was able to escape an abusive husband would strongly disagree with you. Joe Biden wrote and zealously fought for the Violence Against Women Act.

He is the true hero to American women, much moreso than Sarah Palin, who made women pay for their own rape exams when she was mayor of Wasilla. Don't be fooled by their genders.

In case you can't tell, I love Joe Biden and I love that Obama put him on the ticket.

Matthew Zavacky   September 13th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

Rumor has it, that now with Sarah Palin in the spotlight, Biden's media following is a "skeleton crew" of 6 or so reporters following him on the trail.

While the republicans are avoiding talking to the media and "releasing information on their own timetables," Joe is completely open to talking to the media at any time on the trail. Clearly nothing to hide.

Talk about transpirency of government.

Chris   September 13th, 2008 10:16 pm ET

I was very excited about Sarah Palin when she was first announced, and after her speech. And then Senator McCain's campaigning and ads became so nasty. And then the trickle of Mrs. Palin's faults started to flow into a stream. I think I want to hear more about Biden because I don't know much about him. Even though I am a Republican, I think Senator Obama is a decent man. He has been running a clean campaign. To my deep disappointment McCain has not. I would like to learn more about Biden, because I, like many of my friends are beginning to doubt this Republican ticket.

Flo   September 13th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

There is a sense of security in the years of experience a Joe Biden vice-presidency brings to the equation.

The possibility of a 72-year old McCain with a history of cancer leaving neophyte Palin in the position is commander-in-chief is personally terrifying.

It was foolhardy of Sarah Palin not to have hesitated in her response that she is prepared to lead this country during the Gibson interview. For even the most seasoned of statesmen would given have pause to consider the magnitude of responsibility for human life inherent in the sacred trust that this position holds.

This lack of "pause" is a clear indication of a level of ignorance and blatant disregard for human life that in national politics is both reckless and dangerous! There is too much going on in the current political climate to entrust humanity to the likes of a warmongering John McCain who, at his age has nothing to lose or to a mother turned small town governor attempting to live out a Political Cinderella Story.

Though Sarah Palin may be an excellent governor of small Alaska, and I actually agree with some of her positions, my sense is that she is fully aware she IS NOT QUALIFIED for the level of political office to which she is aspiring. However, the fact that partisan politics and ego / testrostrone trumps integrity and honesty is what is so appalling about this deception!

She read the script provided her for the RNC very well and even took ownership of the rhetoric. However, given the limitations of her exposure as a player on the international political scene, it is all too obvious that her persona is a creation of the imagination of Republican handlers who are "pimping" her femaleness to the end of electing John McCain to the presidency. However, there is too much at stake!

55 Year Old   September 13th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

I believe all four candidates are honorable. And I am not going to tell anyone how to vote. In the end, the electorate votes and the result is the government we deserve. If we choose to hide our collective head in the sand and not face the new realities of today, if we are unwilling to sacrifice and work together to help get through our economic vulnerabilities, so be it.

Biden brings a wealth of experience. Obama brings vision, leadership an intelligence. McCain seems reasonable but lacks much vision to get us out of this economic mess we are in. Palin is simply a parochial-minded person, who is governor of a state with a population less than a million and will need to go through a very sharp learning curve to manage a nation of over 300 million, which has suffered loss of allies and assets while Russia and China swim in wealth and pose a huge threat.

We have to face the facts: the popular mantra "cut taxes and tackle the deficit by cutting the budget " is ludicrous in today's reality. Anyone who knows about how badly this government is in debt and how bad the economy is becoming should guffaw over this. When the economy is shrinking as ours is, and the government has expanded so much since 9/11, you cannot lower taxes and deficit at the same time. How about all those financial institution bailouts? How about infrastructure? How about the need to protect our food supply, our borders, our ports? There is a lot the government has to do for our national security and we cannot cut that. Otherwise, things will get a lot worse before they get better.

Acesh   September 13th, 2008 10:24 pm ET

I am personally offended by McCain's choice and the fact that his team is in the process of cleaning up her mess and putting a good face on someone so tainted and power hungry. She'd stab you in the eye
if you crossed her. Her husband is probably her *enforcer*. I am disgusted that McCain thinks so little of the USA that he would choose this woman. What a freakin laugh that she is ready on day one to be
VP. Only if they have a holding room in Area 51 for her.
Biden is a great choice for Obama. A sure win of course would of been Clinton. I like them both.
Biden is seasoned, with such vast experience. I'll be really happy when they win!!
YES WE CAN!!!

Grasshopper   September 13th, 2008 10:25 pm ET

Please, everyone, try not to be distracted by all the noise about personalities, and think for a moment about the challenges that we must face together over the next few years: in the economic, aggressive, environmental, geopolitical and human dimensions.

With those in mind, what qualities must we look for in our leaders? And then, how close to that set of qualities does each of the tickets come?

No Mccain Palin   September 13th, 2008 10:25 pm ET

Bidden may be more humble than Palin. Not sure if that's good or bad for the second in command.

tish barrios   September 13th, 2008 10:27 pm ET

So please to hear that we are now going to hear about the most decent & intelligence man that is to be our next Vice President!

The last two weeks have been an embarrassment to this country
with the news headlines regarding Sara Palin! Enough is enough on this woman!

I love Joe Biden, he will make us proud!!!

Go Joe Go!

Jim Houstin   September 13th, 2008 10:30 pm ET

If the Republicans are so concerned with national security, don't they understand that defending Sarah Palin and putting her in office is the biggest threat to national security that this nation has ever faced. In her interview with Gibson, it was as if she was a high school girl working with an interview coach. She is way dumb. This is not American Idol people! This is your life she is talking about screwing with! She will end up with all the security she needs and the BEST HEALTHCARE IN THE WORLD-She will simply laugh at you when you complain. And when you try to organize a grassroots or "community" campaign against her, then you will be looked down on as just a silly community organizer.

60 Year Old   September 13th, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Unkown, thank you, I go back to the 60's. I keep reading because
this is my first time doing something like this.

It is just amassing to read the comments, some of you are trying to
stay informed so you can make what you feel is the best decision.
Others are still walking the walk down the media and spinmasters
sidewalk and some are so stuck with their party they can't think even
think about another candidate.

Please people, think and research, read up on them and turn all
of the news channels off.

Notice how I haven't mentioned my choice? I have mine and have
done alot of research and still am. None of you can make my
decision for me, that is my responsibility! I won't press mine choice
you and I don't want your's pressed on me.

Teena M   September 13th, 2008 10:35 pm ET

Thank you! I'm looking forward to learning more about Biden and why Obama chose him. I'm an undecided, moderate, middle class white woman. The demographic that is supposed to be flocking to the McCain-Palin ticket, but I'm left scratching my head at that selection. She was mayor of a town that's roughly 1/4 the size of a sold out MLB game. The entire state of Alaska is 1/2 the population size of the county I live in. Heck, I visited more foreign countries on my 2 week vacation to Europe that she's visited in her life. And she's qualified to be vice president how? It's great that she has family values, etc, but how could I elect someone, that I can't even imagine running a small company, to the huge responsibility run an entire nation, should an elderly cancer survivor would-be president not complete his term?

The Informer   September 13th, 2008 10:35 pm ET

If America wants to become the Greatest Nation in the World again–then Joe Biden is your man. He knows and feels all of your pains–Palin, is such a phony. She doesn't know a thing about real politics. But, she can tell you that she can "see" Russia from Alaska. Wow, what "great" qualifications. McCain only chose Palin because he wanted all of Hilllary's votes. In a taped interview, when Hillary and Obama were still campaigning, Palln said that Hillary was such a "whiner." Didn't Phil Gramm say the same thing about us Americans? He is the one who McCain wants to govern his economic "plan." And, again, you want a real person, please vote Joe Biden. Voting for the other ticket is like having a "Trojan Horse" trying to break into the White House. I truly pray that America is smarter than that!

janis brown   September 13th, 2008 10:35 pm ET

Barack Obama showed good jugement when he asked Joe
Biden to be his vice president they make a great team to lead the america people and they are ready to lead THANK YOU JOE FOR SAYING YES WE CAN. GOD BLESS YOU

Professor Frink   September 13th, 2008 10:36 pm ET

Biden?
A plagiarist and well known lifter of other's speeches, who was ignored during the primaries by the mainstream media, which was far more interested in Hillary and Obama.
No matter though, as the 3 or 4 percent of the voters that liked him were able to look past his car salesman smile and annoyingly long winded style. He was chosen, of course, because Obama's foreign policy resume is thinner than Biden's hair-plugged scalp.
Biden, not wanting to look like a wuss, voted to authorize the use of force in Iraq - split it in 3 parts was his solution for that troubled country for during the primaries, which sounds somewhat like the European plan in the early 1900s, which of course was an excellent solution and led to peace and prosperity.
Once the media is able to usher in their longed-for anointed one - payback for the whole WMD snafu - at least there will be an adult in the White House to do the heavy lifting and hard thinking.
I just hope his brain won't explode again.

Balvant   September 13th, 2008 10:39 pm ET

It's about time that Joe Bidan get some spotlight and public gets to see how qualified and better choice for VP is than Palin as VP for McCain. I can understand why Palin got so much media attention since she was not known. However, Joe Bidan needs a fair media coverage. Media may have know him for long time but not all public. Once he is heard more, it will be clear why Obama chose him. He is surely a great guy and very wise choice for VP.

dyellon md   September 13th, 2008 10:40 pm ET

Sarah Palin-" I told them thanks but no thanks when they wanted to build the bridge to nowhere" NOT TRUE. she was for the bridge in 06 and 07, until the issue of waste of our tax dollars became known to the public.
Sarah Palin-I traveled to Ireland, Kuwait, Iraq. NOT TRUE. you never went to Iraq to visit the troops and your airplane only refuled in Ireland.
Sarah Palin-" I will cooperate fully with the investigation concerning the firing..." NOT TRUE. her lawyer has blocked the legislature's investigation and wants Sarah's appointees to decide whether there was an abuse of power.
McCain Add. "Sarah Palin and myself are for stem cell research" NOT TRUE. Palin opposes all stem cell research that uses fetuses that otherwise would be discarded and destroyed. I call that a LIAR, don't you?? Or maybe just someone who stretches the truth somewhat, exaggerates a bit. An surely someone who has no business possibly becoming President of the United States!!!

Amelia   September 13th, 2008 10:42 pm ET

So because she looks good she should be VP? This VP choice is like watching a video where women are used to showoff there body and good looks to help sell music. That is ok for that industry but is this what we want for the future of our country. Four more years of a republican party will be a nightmare for all of the USA. John you wondered about Biden money, if he is like the average man in America with a family, He may have had to spen it on hiss medical bills!!

Bryan B.   September 13th, 2008 10:42 pm ET

John your net worth= the worth of your house, car(s), and how much you have in your bank account. It is quite possible that is his net worth...though it does seem kinda low. Either way it still makes him one of the poorest members of the senate. Obama is somewhere in the middle. McCain is somewhere near the top.

Kelley from TX   September 13th, 2008 10:44 pm ET

I admit I didn't know much about him till he was tapped by Obama, but as one of a third of females in this country victimized by physical and sexual child abuse, I am greatly thankful for what I've learned about Biden and his fight for Violence Against Women (I also didn't know about Obama pushing to teach children about the dangers of sexual predators – so thanks for the education McCain, it made me like Obama more!). Ironically he's done more in his legacy for women's rights than either Hillary or Palin. Obama made the right choice for America even if he didn't make the right choice for The Inquirer or Ratings. I would love to hear what it was like to interview Biden, from what I can tell he's a stand up guy – and if plageriasm is the worst you can find then 90% of high school and college students should never run for president.

Laura   September 13th, 2008 10:45 pm ET

I am very RELIEVED to see there are still people in the media who respect what Journalism is suppose to be or for that matter – once was. Go for it and tell the truth – we need people like you in our country because the agenda seems to only be about this " Walmart vs. Kmart", "Exxon vs. Mobil", "Pro vs, Anti" etc, etc. Let's take the profit and the religion out of it as our constitution states and see which candidates ACTUALLY CARE about us. That is what we pay for and if I need to pay a few more bucks a year for positive things in our country I am willing to do that on the tax side instead of the gas pump to make people who don't need money make money and have people who need help get it.

George Garrett   September 13th, 2008 10:45 pm ET

Biden is the democrats best choice because he is a blank. Perhaps we can learn something about the Senator from a small state with a smaller population than Cincinnati. And he was never even mayor of Middleton, population 9,300.

JB from New Jersey   September 13th, 2008 10:51 pm ET

DC (from NJ), you are obviously part of the left wing loons which are ruining New Jersey. How is Biden "obviously" more experienced than McCain? As an independent who is sick of the idiot Democrats in New Jersey I now realize that these inept lawmakers stay in power because they are supported by mindless party lackeys like you. None of the candidates are ideal but McCain certainly holds his own against Biden. I bet you support Gov. Corzine raising the turnpike tolls by 800 percent (or something to that effect). I bet you'd jump off a bridge to get a Democrat elected–even if he/she wasn't the best candidate for the position. You're a party moron. Have you thought freely today? Ever?

Kim Donlan   September 13th, 2008 10:52 pm ET

As a female democrat knowing relatively little about this man, I was relieved to meet such a strong, compassionate, and fair patriot. What a breath of fresh air from the smug persona of his rival. I feel I can vote with conviction for this man for V.P. of this country. Thanks for the insight.

ladilyn   September 13th, 2008 10:54 pm ET

I'm another Republican who is so disgusted with the way the Republicans are running this campaign that I am about to change my affiliation to Independent. It seems to me that the only reason such a negative campaign is being run is due to the lack of a comprehensive platform that will change the course of the US.

I'm also an American who lived outside the US for the last ten years just returning recently (was married to a Navy guy assigned to NATO). I can tell you categorically that I do not consider someone being able to look at Russia from their State as having foreign policy experience. I was horrified at some of Palin's answers on foreign policy. Then again, I think people who have not lived outside the US or had extensive interaction with people outside the US would really understand why US foreign policy is not working.

Each country has their own unique attitude and the attitude in the US that everyone should react to situations the way Americans do show an arrogance which, combined with the heavy-handed approach, has lost the US respect from other countries who used to be our allies. When I first moved overseas, during Clinton's term, people received me as an American in a welcoming friendly manner. That changed under Bush.

When it comes to foreign policy, even though Obama lacks the experience, I believe his basic instincts are good. The US should have finished the job in Afghanistan before tackling something else which has drained US resources.

However, not all is foreign policy. The Republicans have not shown me anything other than rhetoric and insults to my intelligence by trying to tell me how I should think. I now want to see what else, besides foreign policy, the Democrats have to offer. So far, I've liked what I have seen in terms of conducting themselves in a gentlemanly manner. I am also impressed, as was pointed out by another, with Biden's championing of those touched by domestic violence.

Audra in Nashville   September 13th, 2008 10:56 pm ET

Once again in CNN fashion you are portraying negatives about the Democratic VP as opposed to anything suggestively negative about the self proclaimed 'hockey mom". Give me a break – you portrayal of Sarah Palin was Punk! Barbara Walters could give you a few pointers on how to get straight to the truth and let the American people See for themselves that there is no contrast between experience and an empty "skirt".!!! Print this if you are not afraid to do so! Be more objective and nonparisan CNN... Good GRIEF!!!

Obama/Biden 08/12

John from PA   September 13th, 2008 10:56 pm ET

Irish Catholic from Scranton who is pro-choice... Shameful..

I would like a CNN commentator to ask Obama one question, "..at what point in the 9 months of pregnancy is it not ok for a woman to terminate her pregnancy.." I bet he cant answer it. Pretty sick when he supports it in the 9th month.

Julie   September 13th, 2008 10:57 pm ET

As a woman who grew up in the western outdoors–with fishing, camping, and firearms, I simply cannot stomach Sarah Palin, no matter how much someone wants to cram her down my throat. It's painfully obvious to me, and anyone with eyes to see, that she is woefully underqualified to hold high office. She is a rube's rube. She's provincial, small minded, and she does not have the broad perspectives tempered by exposure to the world at large, or the ability–evidently–to discern that her total inappropriateness for the position. She doesn't even know what she doesn't know. McCain is 72 and out of ideas to fix this country. God help us if this country goes down the McCain path. I fear we will NEVER recover.

j rico   September 13th, 2008 10:59 pm ET

Tess, I could not agree with you more. If change is voting present, I will go with the straight talk express any day!

Miz OH   September 13th, 2008 10:59 pm ET

You People are so stupid, you don't know anything, say palin scares me or Hillary scares me, your big cry babies. GET A LIFE!!!

Marie   September 13th, 2008 11:00 pm ET

Joe Biden is a great man and a great American. He is so smart and such a great pick for VP. Sara Palin gets creepier by the minute and the more and more I hear about her and her views, I am not sure she is normal and has cultish views.

John W?   September 13th, 2008 11:02 pm ET

Biden has shown to be no help to Obama whereas Palin has been the reason for McCain's surge in the polls. Biden is a liberal who has never fought independently like McCain has. He has always stuck to party and what was popular. Terrible pick by Obama, Hillary was clearly the logical choice.

joebloe   September 13th, 2008 11:06 pm ET

Joe Biden has a history of working for the working guy. He also has put forth historic legislation on women's issues. I can't wait for Obama/Biden to truely change the direction this country has gone thanks to George McCain.

I have to tell everyone who say that McCain/Palin are not lying, you are wrong.

Just a little simple fact-checking will tell you that they are either exagerating or LYING about their records. How can we trust anything that they say anymore?

Come-on do you really think John McCain cares about the working guy? If you do please show me where in his record he has been an advocate of the average guy!

Toroloco   September 13th, 2008 11:07 pm ET

I love Obama and Biden. They really represent change and hope for this country. The Reps. have messed it up for 8 years and Mc Cain and Palin will only keep messing us up with higher taxes, more enemies abroad, worse economic news, and the same old dirty politics of the past. By the way, seeing themselves on the verge of losing these elections they are already playing the dirty games.

I hope all of us will be smart enough to make sure that the Reps. are not eleted this year.

from the heartland   September 13th, 2008 11:08 pm ET

Will be good to hear about Sen. Joe Biden, someone who has exhibited great tact and restraint in response to the recent Repub pit-bully pulpit. He and Sen. Obama will make a strikingly intelligent and honest executive team in DC.

Terry Boone   September 13th, 2008 11:09 pm ET

You state: "This documentary will reveal Biden’s dramatic life story. You’ll hear him talk about, for example, his two life-threatening aneurysms and what he told he sons before surgery. I promise you will learn things you don’t know about this scrappy, out-spoken senator from Delaware.: That is a heart beat away from death and since Obama has no experience, I guess Nancy is a heart beat away and thens gets to be VP. He is about as interesting as paint drying on the wall and neither one has any experiece except to bloviate. .

YiYi   September 13th, 2008 11:10 pm ET

I am an independent who is from Asia. I have a circle of friend who are from Asia too. We only learned Biden from Obama's VP picks. But we all deeply moved by his speech during Democrat convention. I'm looking forward to learning more about him through your documentary.

Jillian   September 13th, 2008 11:11 pm ET

What was that? 1 hour on Joe Biden and you spent 55 minutes bashing him????
You didn't even talk about the Violence Against Women Act;
or how he fought to get MRAPs for our troops on the ground in Iraq and Afghanistan – which has saved 75% more lives and limbs of our troops.
What about his fight to end genocide in Bosnia?

No not one mention of all the wonderful things he did.

And by the way – his son Hunter worked for the bank in their ONLINE BANKING DEPT – nothing to do with credit cards. What a bunch of crap.

ladilyn   September 13th, 2008 11:12 pm ET

I'm confused, how are bike paths wastful? If people had a safe place to ride their bikes, perhaps more would use those to get back and forth to work as they do over in Europe than to use their cars. We didn't bother owning a car in the Netherlands due to the great bike lanes, good rail service that allowed you to take you bike with you and the sense of safety you have to the extent that I could take my 2 1/2 yo daughter on her own bike without worrying about her being too close to traffic.

Thanks, Ben G. You just showed me another example of Obama's good sense.

Thanks, also Abbie, for your documentary on Biden. I thought it was well-balanced and it has given me much to think about. It seems that the Democrat ticket is well aware of the struggles single parent families face.

j rico   September 13th, 2008 11:12 pm ET

Teena M,

How is it that you are so quick to point out Palin's lack of qualifications running for vice president, when Obama has a thinner resume and he is running for president? You need to think through what you are saying. I respect you voting for Obama but you can't make that kind of claim and not expect to get challenged.

Dottie Lewis   September 13th, 2008 11:13 pm ET

Joe Biden is such a breath of fresh air after the last two weeks of Gov. Palin. He has actually served in a government position and knows his way around the White House. His knowledge of the world and the wars makes for a much safer Vice Presidential pick.

Of course if we get invaded by a herd of Moose, or I need a good moose stew recipe, I may have to look toward Palin.

Mintchip   September 13th, 2008 11:14 pm ET

I am watching the special now, and I think Abbie is doing a great job. When Republicans vote on "family values", they should look at someone like Joe whose loyalty and love of his family eclipses the Hockey Mom's tenfold (I am a working woman and not sexist at all when I say she is a sh*#%y mom for throwing her 3 day old special needs baby under her desk, or tromping him out in front of millions of people like a prop). Joe has more experience, more insight, more class in his little finger than McPalin could ever have. It's also sad how these small town folks think electing someone "just like them" will make their lives better...they are only cutting taxes for the RICH...Obama/Biden will actually IMPROVE your lives, and the lives of your children. Vote with your heads for once, not your fears.

Jules   September 13th, 2008 11:15 pm ET

Sarah Palin wasn't 'hired' for her experience in foeign policy; McCain is pretty knowledgeable in that area. She is McCain's running mate because of her expertise in domestic energy production and policy, not to mention her administrative experience at the State, Municipal and Small Busines levels.

Irfan   September 13th, 2008 11:15 pm ET

I just finished watching biden documentary. I am very impressed with his wok. He is a real fighter, who has extensive foriegn affairs experience. I salute obama for picking him as VP. A great pick. I feel very sorry for McCain who picked palin, who does not know even Bush doctrine..

Seun   September 13th, 2008 11:16 pm ET

A very impressive piece. It was very informative and now I know why Obama picked Biden. Biden makes Sarah looks like a joke, and I think McCain looked stupid, or lacking in judgement, or was selfish and did not put America first in picking her. May God let America choose the right candidates.

Grasshopper   September 13th, 2008 11:18 pm ET

My answer to my own questions:

We need leaders with the ability to keep focus on serious issues; to ignore distractions; to encourage us to stop behaving reprehensibly; and to admit their own failings.

As for the two tickets – on the one side, they are planning and assembling a leadership team; on the other, I fear they are reduced to parading a cunning stunt.

William   September 13th, 2008 11:19 pm ET

I do not think Biden should even be in politics after what he and Leady did during the Reagan admin.-Does anyone remember the US Senate Page inquiry. The above senators were part of the investigation-The only thing that got them out of it was Watergate. He also made some comments about people during the years that has come back to bite him-especially when most of them were lies. I think anyone who picked him made a big mistake especially with all his negative baggage. That is alright because this will assist John Mc Cain and Sarah Palin win the election

anne   September 13th, 2008 11:20 pm ET

democrats are just angry poor people who want to take from the wealthy. joe biden is crazy. the only better pick to secure a mccain win would have been howard deen. ARRRRRGH ;)

Lucy in St. Louis, MO   September 13th, 2008 11:22 pm ET

What makes people think McCain picked Palin for any other reason than to use her to get the women and the evangelicals to vote for him? What makes you think that he will bother to listen to her for one second? He didn't pick her for the advice she could give him!! what kind of advice do you think a woman like her could give him? and he's not a man who's known for listening to the younger generations...please people even if she is a staunch republican and an evangelical, McCain isn't, and he's lying through his teeth. Palin is a puppet!

Look at the quality of the man Obama picked. If he wanted to pick someone for sheer votes he would have picked hillary, but he picked the guy who can best strengthen his effectiveness in solving the problems the country is facing RIGHT NOW. What the heck is a woman who had to transfer 7 times to finish school going to do for this country's massive problems? She said she didn't waiver a second before accepting the nomination – perhaps if she had any wisdom she might have considered that this is more than just about herself, and that there scores of people out there who can better serve their country as VP.

clint   September 13th, 2008 11:22 pm ET

Joe Biden is the best thing to happen to this election. He adds the perfect balance to President Obama's ticket. The US will regain
status as a world class democracy. Everyone I talk to is seriously scared by Governer Palin. Going to war with Russia! Give me a break.
The Russians aren't going to give a darn that "GOD is giving her direction". They will retaliate big time.

Judith   September 13th, 2008 11:22 pm ET

I watched both Palin's and Biden's documentary programs. The Biden program seemed less positive than the Palin program, and even a Republican spinmeister thrown in to make sure that you could pound home the Republican pap. I realize that Palin does not have much history to talk about except her unusual persona.

CNN, you have got to get a little more clever to hide your big business bias.

Carol Rozeboom   September 13th, 2008 11:24 pm ET

Fantastic!! The Babe who can handle a hunting rifle but doesn't know squat about being a national / world leader ... as many shocked Alaskans will agree ... needs to have less press except to expose her for the dishonest person that she is. McCain choosing her as his VP shows his absolute lack of sound judgement but it also shows her lack of judgement for accepting the offer.

You have a PLUM assignment. Do it justice please. The country and the whole world will thank you!!

Bill   September 13th, 2008 11:25 pm ET

Joe Biden is the real deal. No games. No gimmicks. America needs his experience and insight NOW. Sarah Palin is NOTHING compared to Joe Biden.

joan   September 13th, 2008 11:25 pm ET

I don't have to be convinced to vote for OBAMA/BIDEN...but did watch both bios on REVEALED of Palin and Biden.

Even if Palin's bio had impressed me, which it did not, I could not and would not vote for anyone connected to the McCain campaign. McCain is running one of the most degrading and negative campaigns I have ever witnessed. Do we want such a deceptive, nasty, negative, and manipulative person as our president? Believe me, this man, McCain is just not a nice person.

Sarah Palin is a pawn to get McCAin the crowds he needed and the womans votes he is banking he will get with her on the ticket. I actually feel kind of sorry for her. I think she should have blinked a couple of times before she said yes to VP for McCain. And why is he keeping her in a protected corner? We all know why. she is just NOT ready!!

May God Bless America with OBAMA/BIDEN as winners on Nov 4th.

From an Independent thinker.

Nathanael Jansen   September 13th, 2008 11:26 pm ET

I just finished watching the documentary on Joe Biden and was disappointed to see that no achievements of his career during the 90's was mentioned.

One of Joe's greatest achievements during these years was being a major architect in the structuring of the Dayton Peace Accords, which keeps peace to this day. Most recently, Joe Biden proposed and passed a bill that would partition Iraq into three regions to promote peace and stability. This bill passed both the congress and senate with a large majority.

PhillyJulie   September 13th, 2008 11:27 pm ET

What an honest and genuine human being Joe Biden is . . . emphasis on the work HONEST . . . unlike John McCain and Sarah Palin.

A mountain of outright lies and distortions so glaring and obvious even the media has no choice but to suspend it's "let's be fair to both sides or the Republican bullies will accuse us of bias" submissiveness.

While as a conservative you may differ with Biden's politics here and there, the man has integrity and honor and he tells the truth.

Joe Biden is a good man. John McCain is not a good man.

Though known for his rages, stubbornness and tendencies to be a bully, he did have some semblance of honor. He's soiled his reputation in America's eyes forever, thrown it away. Even many Republican's are speaking out about how low and dishonest he's running his campaign.

I'll say once more: John McCain is NOT a good man, not at all.

Throw the bums out America

Skipper   September 13th, 2008 11:28 pm ET

Joe Biden tried to stand up for Hillary Clinton and got blindsided for his efforts....Poor Joe.
I felt sorry for him but still believe McCain is the man we need.
Obama is a ultra liberal left winger in centrist clothing

Rachael   September 13th, 2008 11:30 pm ET

I'm glad that I don't have to watch another report about what's-her-name from Alaska. My Newsweek came today, and it features her on the cover! For God's sake, the last time I've checked there were two VP nominees not one!
I'm a woman, and I, just like many women out there, have values. I worry about the bills being paid, I worry about how I'm going to pay my college tuition. I shop at Sam's Club as much as the next person, but do you mean to tell me that just because McCain picked a woman as his VP that he's going to win the women's vote? No possible way; and not a lot of women share her views on policy...and what foreign policy? She didn't have the foggiest idea what Charles Gibson meant about the President's Doctrine! She's a Republican, and a Governor, and has been in this business for quite some time, (2 years but who's counting?) she should have known!
Hooray for Gibson by the way. Don't treat anyone any differently.
It's refreshing to hear Joe Biden's story because quite frankly, I've never heard of him until this year's election during the Primary Season. My husband told me that he has a pretty unique story, and he wasn't kidding either!
As for Ms. Gov. from Alaska who said during the "Anticipated Interview" that she thinks that Obama is regretting not picking Clinton?
Newsflash lady: you listen to yourself when making these crucial decisions about who would be most complementary to you when picking a running mate. Experienced with Foreign Policy; worked in D.C for years but it never changed him; sitting Chairman of the Judiciary committee. If that's not qualifications, then I don't know what is! I don't think Sen. Obama is regretting anything. He's made the right decision. Would he have picked Sen. Biden if he didn't think he was qualified?
I didn't think so either.

Ron from Sedona   September 13th, 2008 11:30 pm ET

I thought your “Obama Revealed” and “McCain Revealed” segments were very balanced and fair. You balanced the positive with the negative for both candidates. However during your “Biden Revealed” segment tonight, you failed to mention one positive thing Biden has done in his 35+ years in the Senate, nor did you even attempt to chronicle his foreign policy experience. Surely Joe Biden did one positive thing in 35 years. Not one positive thing? Not even one? Didn’t he have some foreign policy experience somewhere along the way? I think I must have missed that part of the show. And this is fair and balanced journalism? This is important stuff—not to be taken lightly. You need to get it right the first time CNN.

You have a long way to go CNN before I can even begin to take you seriously. MASH re-runs are infinitely preferable.

Jay   September 13th, 2008 11:30 pm ET

Hey, Anne if domocrats are angry poor people, why don't majority of them live in rural america, Republicans are not that smart that is why the Republican leaders never want you to develope rural america because they know that you will become smart , progressive and think for yourself.

Jean Neal   September 13th, 2008 11:30 pm ET

The media has been glamorizing the Republican choice for VP and ignoring Biden, a noble, honest man. Where's the justice in that? I for one am glad that Joe Biden was chosen by Obama and will gladly vote for them while saying a prayer that there's NO MORE OF THE SAME OLD SAME OLD that McCain and company embody. Enough is enough!

Skippy   September 13th, 2008 11:31 pm ET

I am undecided at this point but what I know about Palin is extremely unappealing. I'd like to know more. What I have seent about Biden is pretty impressive so far. I'd like to more there as well.

Concerned Voter   September 13th, 2008 11:32 pm ET

People:
If you want this:"Throughout her career, Ms. Palin has pursued vendettas, fired officials who crossed her and blurred the line between government and personal grievance. " NYT, 9/13/2008,
then you ignore Biden's integrity and experience at your peril.

Jhutchin   September 13th, 2008 11:32 pm ET

Glad even the media have come to their senses! Cnn have realized the pig on a lipstcik distracted their attention from real candidates and real issues of this campaign.
sarah palin was added to the tickect to bring the excitement in republicans not substance. I hope the simpsons will make an episode of Mccain-Palin!

YellowDog in CA   September 13th, 2008 11:33 pm ET

Since the 1st time I saw Joe Biden on TV in a Senate hearing back in the mid- to late-70s, he has been a guy I wanted to see run for president. I am sorry I have never been able to vote for him as both attempts were derailed. Although I was a Hillary supporter (now for Obama 100%) who wanted to see her on the ticket , I am delighted to support a ticket with Joe Biden on it. He seems a decent man.

CNN, you could have been a little tougher on all of them, but I thought these programs were overall very good. Anyone who accuses your network of partisanship, just doesn't like how the facts play out for their candidate. Too bad, so sad.

Obama/Biden '08

Judy   September 13th, 2008 11:33 pm ET

Your documentary was excellent. It even kept me away from the Badger football game for 1/2 hour.

joan   September 13th, 2008 11:34 pm ET

Thanks for Joe Biden!

Read the "something is fishy" from above.

I have been wondering one thing as a woman... how can a woman of 43 have her fifth child five months ago, and have such a slim stomach so soon? Mother nature is just not that good to any one of us. Not even the most trim and hard bodied of us, can possibly accomplish that at 43 yrs of age.

This does not add up for me at all.

Erica   September 13th, 2008 11:35 pm ET

I saw the documentary just a moment ago, right after Palin's. Where Palin shows a lack of heart, Joe's heart shined through and through. Sure there's controversy, but in comparison to the other VP nominee? Come on. Biden is wonderful and we'd be thoroughly blessed to have him beside Obama in office. I fully support this ticket.

No-Mind   September 13th, 2008 11:36 pm ET

I am an independent voter. I do not pay much attention about the personal lives of Mr. Obama, Biden, McCain, or Ms. Palin. If they were not good citizens they would not come this far to be presidential nominees. What do we understand about the meaning of the term ‘Democracy’ in a general sense? If president Bush screwed up in the last 8 years, who would be blamed first? Probably not him. U.S.A. is a democracy country, therefore citizens of the U.S.A. are the captains of the ship U.S.A. i.e. without people there would be no voters, without voters, there would be no president Bush. Isn’t it too late to blame anyone for what has been done to this country for the last 8 years? I think so, but they can always be corrected. It is time and also our chance to change and the change must be a totally new path or direction. It is our chance to change ourselves if we did vote for the wrong candidate in the past. It is our chance to change our thinking that lead to our decision as to why we voted for the wrong candidate in the past. Being stubborn is not strong. Stubbornness is nothing but ego-preservation, rather. Not hesitating to change is real strength. If we can change ourselves we can change anything including the future of this country.

Jim   September 13th, 2008 11:37 pm ET

Senator Biden has been terribly wrong on most foreign policy issues during the last thirty years–and he is supposed to be the foreign policy expert. Remember the Pershing II missile deployment under Reagan. How about the recent troop surge in Iraq? What about his strange idea about dividing Iraq into three federal states? Look up his votes during the '80s concerning Communism in Nicaragua and El Salvador, the so-called Nuclear Freeze, the B-2 Bomber, etc. In other words, those things that were eventually passed, despite his votes, and helped bring an end to the Cold War. No doubt on a personal level he is a good father and husband–maybe even a great guy to have a beer with–but just not VP ready. His run for the '08 party nomination in Iowa should put all doubt to rest. Best wishes on your retirement senator. Enjoy the grandchildren.
PS- Being the "second poorest senator" is still a pretty good deal.

Dana   September 13th, 2008 11:39 pm ET

Interesting how you tsk-tskingly report at the end that Biden got $119 million in earmarks for Delaware. With a pop.of 853,000, that's about $140/per Delaware resident. On the other hand, the Palin bio announced proudly that she had "reformed" the pork/earmarks for Alaska, reducing it from $550 million her first year as governor to "only" $254 million last year. For a state with a pop. of 670,000, that's a reduction from $820/per Alaskan to a mere $379/per Alaskan. I gues that's better than her pork record in Wasilla with $27 million for 5000 people - $5,400 per resident. So much more fiscally conservative than Biden, and such a reformer!

I was extremely disappointed in both of these bios. I actually thought CNN did a pretty decent job with Obama and McCain, but this one and Palin's? Pretty poor.

jacky   September 13th, 2008 11:41 pm ET

Senator Jor Biden was a very good choice. Hillary Clinton would'f been also a good choice, but the way her campaign attacked obama made is almost imposible to join the ticket.

Carole   September 13th, 2008 11:41 pm ET

BRAVO! I thought your piece was terrific! Senator Joe Biden first came to my attention during the Robert Bork confirmation hearings. I've followed his Senate career very closely since then. I thought your piece was marvelous. It really gave a complete picture of what an extraordinary person he is: his commitment to his family, his constituents, his country and ceratinly his Foreign Policy and International relations experience. He has known great personal tragedy, life-threatening illness and he genuinely loves people. Yes, he can be "long-winded." Yes, he is often blunt. Yes, made two very minor blunders for which he took responsibility. He's a straight arrow-a straight shooter.

rima   September 13th, 2008 11:43 pm ET

Joe Biden is once of a lifetime leader.
I think he make an excellent veep – helping Obama with the details and diplomacy.
America is lucky to have him on the ticket.

Jennifer Hull   September 13th, 2008 11:43 pm ET

Thank you for the great programming, filling in some blanks in a fair and balanced way about governor Palin and Senator Biden.

I have always liked Joe Biden, despite being a westerner from Arizona. He has a special quality that I think will serve our country well, if we give him the chance.

Governor Palin obviously has a stellar career ahead of her in politics. I just hope it isn't as the ellected VP in 2008!

Go Obama/Biden!!!!!

valerie   September 13th, 2008 11:44 pm ET

I am from the small state of Delaware and Joe has been great to us for womans rights not like palin that doesnt want womans to have a choice. I am sooo glad he made a good judgement not like Mcdame who picks someone that is NOT QUALIFIED to be president if the old man dies in office. I feel better knowing that Biden can step in if needed. I cannot get over that people want the same thing for the next four years that we had for the last eight. I dont understand other than die hard republicians can not see how Mcsame was irresponsible and is putting our national security at risk. EVERYBODY WAKE UP DO YOU REALLY WANT THE COUNTRY IN HER HANDS THINK BEFORE NOV 4TH IF THE OLD MAN DIES DO YOU REALLY LOVE YOUR COUNTRY IF YOU DO YOU WILL NOT VOTE FOR HIM IF YOU DO THE COUNTRY MUST NOT MEAN THAT MUCH TO YOU. Obama/Biden 2008-2012 republician would rather win the election than put there country first just like MCSAME

Ken in Pisgah Forest   September 13th, 2008 11:44 pm ET

I thought McCain was going to stay above the fray after he was Roved in 2000 and his friend and fellow Vietnam vet, John Kerry, was 'swift-boated' by that pack of liars.

I am a former Republican, now independant, and until the Roving stops, I will not vote for a Republican at the national level. Personnally, I think the Republicans must be a bunch of dimwits because they keep clapping at Palin's speeches, particularly the part about the bridge to nowhere. The rest of us know she is embellishing her resume, or in other words, lying, but these knuckleheads think she is wonderful. The rest of us would be fired for doing what she is doing. Of course, they also nominated the imbecile Bush not once, but twice, and they still don't regret it even though he has taken us down the road to fiscal bankruptcy. Now they want to make Bush Light the next President.

Palin's responses to Charles Gibson were an embarrassment and I had to turn away from it because I was embarrassed for her. Maybe she should read the newpapers once in a while so she can get a handle on world events.

Gloria   September 13th, 2008 11:44 pm ET

Joe Biden is a man of action, accomplishment, and integrity; he is an excellent for our vice president. While “Biden Revealed” was informative, the writer should have included some of the more pertinent information such as the following

 Committee on Foreign Relations (chairman)
 As Chairman of the full committee Biden is an ex officio member of each subcommittee.
 Committee on the Judiciary
 Subcommittee on Antitrust Competition Policy and Consumer Rights
 Subcommittee on Crime and Drugs (chairman)
 Subcommittee on Human Rights and the Law
 Subcommittee on Immigration, Border Security, and Refugees
 Subcommittee on Technology Terrorism and Homeland Security
 Caucus on International Narcotics Control (co-chairman)

According to BaltimoreSun.com blog member Pslhobo, Biden has been involved in crafting many federal crime laws over the last decade, including the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994, also known as the Biden Crime Law. He also authored the landmark Violence Against Women Act of 1994 (VAWA), which contains a broad array of measures to combat domestic violence and provides billions of dollars in federal funds to address gender-based crimes. In 2000, the Supreme Court ruled that the section of VAWA allowing a federal civil remedy for victims of gender-motivated violence exceeded Congress' authority and therefore was unconstitutional.[14] Congress reauthorized VAWA in 2000 and 2005.[15][16] In March 2004, Biden enlisted major American technology companies in diagnosing the problems of the Austin, Texas-based National Domestic Violence Hotline, and to donate equipment and expertise to it.[17][13]

As chairman of the International Narcotics Control Caucus, Biden wrote the laws that created the nation's "Drug Czar," who oversees and coordinates national drug control policy. In April 2003 he introduced the controversial Reducing Americans' Vulnerability to Ecstasy Act, also known as the RAVE Act. He continues to work to stop the spread of "date rape drugs" such as Rohypnol, and drugs such as Ecstasy and Ketamine. In 2004 he worked to pass a bill outlawing steroids like androstenedione, the drug used by many baseball players.[13]

Biden's legislation to promote college aid and loan programs allows families to deduct on their annual income tax returns up to $10,000 per year in higher education expenses. His "Kids 2000" legislation established a public/private partnership to provide computer centers, teachers, Internet access, and technical training to young people, particularly to low-income and at-risk youth.[18]

Biden is also a long-time member and current chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations. In 1997, he became the ranking minority member and chaired the committee from June 2001 through 2003. When Democrats re-took control of the Senate following the 2006 elections, Biden again assumed the top spot on the committee in 2007. His efforts to combat hostilities in the Balkans in the 1990s brought national attention and influenced presidential policy: traveling repeatedly to the region, he made one meeting famous by calling Serbian leader Slobodan Milosevic a "war criminal." He consistently argued for lifting the arms embargo, training Bosnian Muslims, investigating war crimes and administering NATO air strikes. Biden's subsequent "lift and strike" resolution was instrumental in convincing President Bill Clinton to use military force in the face of systematic human rights violations. [19] Biden has also called on Libya to release political prisoner Fathi Eljahmi.[20]

Following the September 11, 2001 attacks, Biden was supportive of the Bush administration's efforts, calling for additional ground troops in Afghanistan and agreeing that Saddam Hussein was a threat that needed to be dealt with. The Bush administration rejected an effort Biden undertook with Senator Richard Lugar to pass a resolution authorizing military action only after the exhaustion of diplomatic efforts. In October 2002, Biden voted for the final resolution to support the War in Iraq. He has long supported the appropriations to pay for the occupation, but has argued repeatedly that more soldiers are needed, the war should be internationalized, and the Bush administration should "level with the American people" about the cost and length of the conflict. [21]

In November 2006, Biden and Leslie Gelb, President Emeritus of the Council on Foreign Relations, released a comprehensive strategy to end sectarian violence in Iraq. Rather than continuing the present approach or withdrawing, the plan calls for "a third way": federalizing Iraq and giving Kurds, Shiites, and Sunnis "breathing room" in their own regions. [22]

Biden understands the true tribal nature of the Iraqis who have squandered the surge to make progress in the parliament which still has only one Sunni on it. It is only a matter of time before the violence between the Sunnis and the Shia begins again regardless of the surge. We trust in your judgment and vision to bring our troops, Obama and Biden.

proudAmeri1   September 13th, 2008 11:45 pm ET

I saw interviews with Sen Biden prior to his run for the Democratic Presidential nomination. It was easy then and now to see the thought, respect, and intelligence he brings to the issues that face this country. Thank you Sen Obama for putting the American people first and choosing a terrific and deserving Vice President. And thank you Senator Clinton for your efforts in bringing Democratic Party together. Looking forward to reading your article.

maryann   September 13th, 2008 11:46 pm ET

It confirmed what a decent guy Biden is and the most qualified to be vice-president.

Mary   September 13th, 2008 11:47 pm ET

Unbelievable! Admittedly, I was skeptical that CNN would be fair and balanced, and you proved me right. I know "fair and balanced" belongs to Fox, but you're no different. Joe Biden is a wonderful family man and senator with accomplishments that could easily fill a 4-hour special, and not one mention of these? For shame, CNN! This election is too important for such blatant bias.

Dana   September 13th, 2008 11:52 pm ET

I definately think you have the better assignment. You get to do a documentary on Joe Biden. Whoever is doing Sarah Palin is going to have to sort through a whole mess of lies first and will hopefully end up reporting the truth in the documentary. It is so sad to see so many of these comments still listing all of these "accomplishments" of Sarah Palin that have been proven to be untrue... what cave have these people been living in?

jon   September 13th, 2008 11:52 pm ET

how about googling joe biden, and plagiarism. Try it, see what you get...even according to biden himself.

Open your eyes people... none of the choices are really good...oh sure...obama "sounds" good...but in the end, he is political, just like all the rest, and... he is an idealist whose utopian ideas will lead us into a deeper morass.

S Dogoode   September 13th, 2008 11:53 pm ET

Senator John McCain chose to stand by his fellow captives whom he barely knew and suffer over 5 years as a POW when he could have been set free. Obama can't even stand by his Reverend friend of 20 years when he was a political liability......you tell me who has more integrity. You want to make fun of Govenor Palins experience....she has at least managed a state budget, created and managed a cabinet and thousands of employees and has the final say in numerous matters effecting the state...obama has what organized a block party.....Biden has become so entrenched in Washington he offers no change. he himself critized Obama for wanting to have direct discussions with Iran and others.....please use your brains people...don't just vote because you hate Bush but vote for someone you could be proud to represent you.

FrenchieCat_DU   September 13th, 2008 11:53 pm ET

Great insight to Biden, I appreciate the great job CNN does informing the public about the candidates.

It seems to me that Biden just wants to keep whatever national spotlight on him as long as he can. He has tried and failed twice running for POTUS. He admits Hillary is more qualified and should have been the VP pick. But he took it for the attention.

I think he knows Obama cannot win, but will hang on just for the attention. To bad he would tie his name to this racebaiting Obama campaign. Politics blah.

I think McCain and Palin should win, at least he is running a decent campaign and fighting the sexist attacks.

As a democratic woman I am proud to support McCain.

Marie   September 13th, 2008 11:53 pm ET

This was a great piece. I felt in my heart that Barrack had picked the right person, but after this, I know he did!

It was very emotional and really showed Joe's passionate side. Which is why I am drawn to him.

kate fischer   September 13th, 2008 11:56 pm ET

I was dissapointed with CNN tonight. Abbie, your report was fair but the problem is you were fair, whereas the interviewer for Palin was biased. I think it is unfortunate that an editor at CNN did not take the time to realize that one reporter was biased (palin's) and one was fair (Biden's) which set the stage for a comparrison that was not held on a level playing field. I had hoped the 2 reports would be like the 2 done with Obama and McCain -which seemed to have a consistent approach.

Some of the things I noticed:
Mentioned Palin's son going to Iraq (as the media often does) and yet no mention of Biden's son's service. Perhaps this is because Biden would find it unthinkable to hold his son's service up to the media as a way of showing his own patriotism.

When the ex mayor of Wasilla spoke, the interviewer negated all that he said with his comment that "it sounds like sour grapes."

There was a republican strategist (Alex C) in Biden's documentary who repeatedly dissed Biden. I don't recall seeing any democrat strategist in palin's documentary to counter the many quasi truths told. Why was that?

There was mention of how Palin put the plane up on Ebay but not of the money the state has spent on her family's and her own travel. Why not take the $41,000 on travel for her family + whatever is spent on her own travel and compare it with estimated travel costs had they just kept the plane? Then we could know if this was a cost savings for the state or simply a gimmick.

There was talk about the money Biden brought "home" to DE in earmarks and yes, there was of Palin too. However, to the average TV viewer that does not mean anything. Why not express it in per capita terms so we can really compare them. Then it would be clear who is taking home more bacon and it sure isn't Biden.

There was mention of troopergate but nothing about the fact that she is refusing to hand over 1100 emails claiming executive privilege. her husband – a private citizen -was copied on some of the ones she refuses to release which negates an executive privilege claim but never mind that little detail. Nor was their mention of the recent road blocks she has put up to the investigation and how she is trying to get the case moved to the personel board, which happens to be made up of governor apointees. None of whom would dare vote against her given what she seems to do to her friends, much less her enemies. The reporting on this was incredibly weak and lacking in terms of truth.

Why didn't Palin's documentary reporter talk to people in the alaska senate?

Biden's documentary talked of the questionable conflict of interest with his son working as a consultant for MBNA. That's honest – there was a question about that. But then be equally honest because there are also questions about conflict of interest with her husband who works for BP. And that seems a bit more serious to me given her drill baby drill mantra.

Why didn't Palin's show mention all the money she has charged her state to stay in her own home. Compare that to the fact that Biden, as a single dad of 2 very little boys -and still to this day – commuted 100 miles to and from DC every day and never used his kids as an excuse to charge the state money to sleep in his own home.

There was nothing about how Palin actually kept the money appropriated for the bridge to nowhere and is building a road to nowhere now. I'm not sure I get how she can claim to have said "thanks but no thanks" when she kept the entire sum of money. Can someone explain that to me? More importantly could CNN explain this to the public because I don't think the average TV viewer is aware that the money did not come back to congress and thus to us. It went to Alaska anyway.

In the end I learned little more than I already knew. Biden is a genuine, real person. He does not have to craft his image because What you see is what you get. He has made mistakes, he is willing to admit that and he has learned. That is how wisdom is gained. But we already knew all of this about the modest, fiercely dedicated, patriotic, intelligent and very human man that he is.

Palin...well who knows anything outside of the story that the media is selling. One thing that did strike me was that she seemed to turn on the very people who helped her break into politics. A mayor encouraged her to run for city council and supported her and she stabbed him in the back and took his job. The governor appointed her to a board and next thing we know she stabbed him in the back and took over as governor. It's a little scary once you see this pattern – who really would be in control at the white house if that ticket wins?

helen figueroa   September 13th, 2008 11:57 pm ET

You can never compare Biden to Palin. As a woman I am embarrased to be represented by Palin.... Maybe many of us do not know about the Bush Doctrine but we are not running for VP. She needs to go back to school or better yet dedicate time to her children. It is obvious that she has not.

Tom   September 14th, 2008 12:00 am ET

You know I keep hearing the Dems throwing around the " More of the same" crap all over the TV, radio, and newspapers. Has anybody stopped to think about who else is more of the same... like Biden... he has been around for 20 freakin years and has accomplished little to nothing as a Senator. And now THE most inexperienced man to ever run for the presidency in our nation's history is wanting to hand him the number 2 slot.... come on people think a little, it isn't that hard and it stops hurting after a little while.

Julie   September 14th, 2008 12:01 am ET

CNN shame on you The Palin and Biden revealed was so loopsided. Palin was a pure fluff piece. Biden was a pure negative attack with a Republican hatchet man to add to this mess. If it was a fair piece you would of told us the legislation bills that Biden had passed. He was the one who got more police on the streets, the one who helped get our troops the proper armor that they needed for their vehicles, the violence against women Bill, CNN also didn't show how Biden has worked and lead bi-partisan bills in the senate. Very disapointed CNN who was responsible for this mess? We need names !!!!!

ugot2bkiddin   September 14th, 2008 12:02 am ET

I enjoyed the documentary on Biden. It was enlightening and refreshing to hear about a man, a father who always kept his family in the forefront. Unfortunately, people like Biden and Obama will not be successful in their run for VP and Pres because the GOP know from past experience that the majority of folks care little about integrity, character and intelligence. The GOP campaign is predicated on lies, spins, psycho-babble and they are gifted to play on the weak minded, moronic voters. They know from experience if they can cause fear and a sense of uncertainty they can convince the simple minded not to be concern with the issues(because issues are not important) but to be fearful of the "black man" that is a "muslim"(not), his association with folks like Ayers or Jeremiah Wright that he can not be trusted to represent the little people, the poor folks, the white poor uneducated rural folks. I do not believe the voters will not vote for Obama/Biden because of his association with folks that are a neighbor and a minister but because they are not ready to vote for a black man. I believe if Obama/Biden were both white men that managed to pull off a flawless well managed campaign they would not be lagging behind any polls. Also, the voters that are using Obama decision not to choose Hillary on the ticket are also liars and lack the integrity to admit that they do not have the b–ls to vote for a black man. Kind of an interesting phenomenon to me since Blacks have been voting for all races since they were granted the "right to vote". I believe McCain/Palin will be the winning ticket and all I have to say is "GOD help America".

vfred   September 14th, 2008 12:03 am ET

I'm confused. Sarah Palin takes heat for being a Mom while accepting the offer to run for Vice President – with accusations of "no experience." Joe Biden, on the other hand, with NO experience as a US Senator, was sworn into office days after his wife and daughter were killed in a tragic accident.

Did anyone accuse him of being a terrible Dad for leaving 2 children behind every day while he commuted. Who cared for these kids? Were they even recovered from the accident themselves? Were there any articles about how bad this decision was? Is this sexist?

Sarah Palin is also taking nasty heat due to the strength of her Faith Convictions. She appears to be consistent in them. That being said,
if Joe Biden has such a strong Catholic Faith, why is it that a couple of Arch Bishops have called for Joe Biden to refrain from participating in Communion due to his Pro Choice stand?

Philly Bo Bones   September 14th, 2008 12:04 am ET

When Obama picked Biden, he listened to the wife and the vindictive side of his brain and lost the Presidency. He's a 2 bit junior Senator with close to no accomplishments and adding Biden and his 200 votes in Iowa shows his complete lack of judgement. Both I and my wife voted Hillary but now it is McCain-Palin from here without question. The vitriol coming from the Dems has me now deciding whether to change my Dem registration as well. I always thought that the Republicans were the party of just plain mean but clearly I see know how wrong that has become. Very sad disgusting statements spewing from the Dems lately. Throwing away my Bourne movies, the hateful statements are beyond belief and will backfire incredibly. Get ready for the promised 60's riots when BO loses.

alex   September 14th, 2008 12:06 am ET

Sorry folks, I'm not a Joe Biden fan; I view him as an insider. I was hoping Obama would name somebody like Bill Richardson, but, hey, I agree, I can't have everything in an election slate, and besides, a vice president on the ticket isn't the thing that turns losers into winners.

McCain will lose despite the current noise about Palin, and even better, if Obama fails to be able to complete his elected term, I agree, Joe Biden is ready to sit in the big chair in the oval office...Palin is not.

Missy from Kansas City, KS   September 14th, 2008 12:08 am ET

I really enjoyed the piece on Biden. He has a great family. You could see the love he has for his first wife and now Jill. Biden is more than qualified to lead this country. For a while he was a single father and that should be commended. He seems very humble yet clearly has more experience than Palin. I don't expect anyone, not even politicians to be perfect and I feel if you make a mistake you should admit it, learn from it and move on. Palin clearly has changed her stance on issues and that's okay. But lying about it is not. I hope we can get back to the issues and the voting public looks past the sound bites. I am humbled and honored to vote for Obama and Biden, they are the clear choice in this election. Let's vote for our children's future!

60 Year Old   September 14th, 2008 12:10 am ET

Well, coming back an hour later, I see nothing has changed.
We still have the left wing liberals that can't see past their right
cheek and the same of the right wing conservatives.

Then there is the comments from the totally uninformed that
could not have seen nor read anything on the topic, yet have
an important opinion about the subjuct!

When are you all going to stop blowing into the wind and get
real about the issues in this election? This just might turn
out to be one of the most important Presidential elections
in our life and all I read is blah, blah, blah.

Very few facts and those that might have them are put down
because they don't match your agenda. Wow, where'd this
country go?

Steve Cheung   September 14th, 2008 12:10 am ET

Joe Biden is a rock solid choice. America can't go wrong with this guy being the vp and event president.
Don't gamble on Palin/McCain. Never trust a person who hide behind a skirt to be the president!

Colin   September 14th, 2008 12:11 am ET

If Obama/Biden win the election, I have no doubt that Biden will serve a much more active and influential role in the White House than Sarah Palin will if the GOP wins. In fact, it seems that it was with this purpose in mind that Obama picked Biden to begin with; to bring someone with experience, wisdom, and an established self-identity to the table.

He might not be the most exciting pick (relative to Sarah Palin, that is), but he, in my opinion, is the better pick for this reason.

As such, it is important for people to really learn more about the man who very well may fill this role in the near future; and this documentary was a good first-step in allowing people an opportunity to do just that.

Zula L   September 14th, 2008 12:13 am ET

Joe was my first choice for President, unfortunately, he took himself out of running. I will vote Democratic this November. I don't want another 8 lousy years!

real   September 14th, 2008 12:14 am ET

Country First? No! Alaska First!

bob   September 14th, 2008 12:19 am ET

it sounds like all these democrats are hoping something happens to their inexperienced presidential candidate so Biden can succeed him

Aiden Shaw   September 14th, 2008 12:19 am ET

Biden was a strange choice of running mate for Obama. How will Obama change Washington when he selects a running mate who's been in the senate for a longer time than his life experience out of it? Doesn't someone like Biden have a vested interest in keeping Washington the way it is? Sure, McCain has a long record in the senate, but he wasn't the one parading through Iowa spouting "change change change." Besides, I'd rather see someone with McCain's record in the big chair than a guy who hasn't completed a full term in the senate. Is it me, or doesn't anyone else think that it's arrogant for Obama to want to be the big tuna when he's just learning how to swim?

jp   September 14th, 2008 12:20 am ET

you don't have to like a politician to have a sense of respect for him/her. what I don't really grasp is when one must spout vitriol about one politician or another. isn't there enough negativity pervading our media sources without having to add nasty comments online?

Judy   September 14th, 2008 12:24 am ET

I just finished watching the two "Revealed" pieces. I am very disappointed in how Biden is portrayed by the CNN reporter. He is made out to be a Washington insider crook. Where is the mention of all the positives that have caused Delaware voters to continue to re-elect him term after term. And, by the way, Palin's son was once again lauded for his impending service in Iraq while no mention was made of Biden's son's October departure for service in Iraq. Hmmm...
CNN and other media cover every move and comment of Palin on a daily basis as if she is running for president. If Palin is going to be covered, Joe Biden should receive equal coverage – in keeping with the supposed rules of equal coverage for the campaigns. CNN apparently, and sadly, is not fair and balanced.

Abraham   September 14th, 2008 12:25 am ET

There will be always people who think the Biden piece supported the one side or the other.
But there were a few reckless statements or omissions from the researcher.
What I found particular partisan was not mentioning that Bork was opposed because he fired water gate special prosecutor Archibald Cox, after Elliott Richardson and William Ruckelhaus already had refused.
Or adding the adjective "fallacious" to Anita Hill's testimony in the Clarence Thomas hearings. That's beyond the pale, that's taking sides..

Carl Lokko   September 14th, 2008 12:25 am ET

I can not wait to hear the candidates debate and display their intelligence and quick thinking solutions to challenging issues that are grounded in facts. I do not think voters should vote for anyone because they look pretty, handsome or are war veterans. There should be a lot more substance to a president or vice president – one who is not a prisoner of his /her past, but rather a beacon of hope, change, innovation and a shift towards the future – a shift from typewriters to computers and beyond. Obama/Biden have the combination for such a shift! Be bold! Pick them and be part of the solution!

sally   September 14th, 2008 12:30 am ET

He has the experience, the record, the intelligence, the wisdom, and the vision.someone with national experience , and foreign affairs. Obama and Biden would actually make an honorable and prudent pair.

shea   September 14th, 2008 12:54 am ET

Obama and Biden both are Smart, charming with sweet smile and qualifications to back it up,.

Hillary Ashivaka   September 14th, 2008 1:02 am ET

I think the biggest problem facing the American voter is the innability to distinguish "pep talk" politics and real issues affecting this country. Both Biden and Palin have the ability to become the vice president. But, we have to think beyond just our loyalty and examine their records with pure minds, dignity and maturity.

I am glad that someone is working hard to tell us a little bit more of these people so that we can know who they really are, especially now that people can tell lies in broad day light.

bob   September 14th, 2008 1:11 am ET

and judy the reason a bigger thing is made of Palin's son going to Iraq than Biden' son going is that Palin's son is going as an infantry man, Biden's as a lawyer

faez   September 14th, 2008 1:20 am ET

I admire his integrity and devotion to his country. How can we compare, a simple, hard working and highly educated man with a low life puppet like Palin.?

Chasman   September 14th, 2008 1:28 am ET

Im glad that Joe Biden thinks that people who work hard and earn a decent living should pay much higher taxes so that we can redistribute wealth. I think its super that he has donated almost $500 a year out of his $2.2 million that he has "earned" over the last 10 years, mostly from the taxpayers as a Senator to charity. Really a passionate guy...he can tell everyone else to give all their money to the government, but he cant spare more than 500 of his $220k per year to help those "less fortunate" he professes to care so much about. Actions speak louder than words, Big Joe Hypocrite.

kate fischer   September 14th, 2008 1:35 am ET

he is something like 99th out of the 100 senators in wealth. If you want to throw stones there are at least 98 senators in front of him you can aim for.

Ronni   September 14th, 2008 1:35 am ET

Thank you. I am looking forward to it. I think Senator Biden brings so much more to the table than Sarah Palin. Thank God.

Sherri   September 14th, 2008 1:46 am ET

I am an Independent and watched “Sarah Palin Revealed” and “Joe Biden Revealed” while scribbling exhaustive notes in columns I made for each candidate's “Triumphs” and “Controversies.” I came away with a good balance in my columns for Palin, and so I feel more informed.

However, Abbie, I have really done a lot of homework on Biden, so I have both praise and criticism the Biden documentary: First, I was moved to tears on the discussion of Biden’s personal tragedies. It was just BRILLIANT to have Biden read the passage from his book!! It made for first-rate storytelling. Kudos also for incorporating rare footage of his young family.

However, I think Biden’s distinguished political career was reduced to a litany of controversies, evidenced by the nearly empty “Triumphs” column in my notes. Did I miss the mention of his authorship of the pioneering Crime Bill? His role in defining crimes against women? The spearheading of the rescue of Bosnia?

On the other hand, to my dismay, my “Controversies” column runneth over. Yet, I don’t think ANYONE would describe Joe Biden’s career as marred as it seemed in the piece.

(Just an aside, I have made it a point to understand Biden’s political plan for Iraq, so I cringe a little when I still hear people call it “partitioning.” Biden recommends maintaining a central government in Iraq that is a confederation of the three ethno-religious factions.)

I want to express my very sincere thanks to you, Abbie, and to the producers of “CNN Presents” for their attention to the bottom of the tickets, even if my “report card”–at least in the Biden piece–showed an “incomplete.”

I encourage other Independents to do the research. As I stand now, this election would be crystal clear for me if Biden were the top of the Democratic ticket. He has a compelling personal and professional resume.

Chasman   September 14th, 2008 1:48 am ET

McCain gave about 80 times more to charity on a percantage of income basis than Biden has. Youre really a great guy, Joe...a true everyman. Albeit one with a 165k government job that is pretty much a no show job these days, and book royalties to boot. You really do know what its like for the average guy...cause the average guy makes 200k a year, gives almost nothing to charity and runs around telling everyone else they should fund more compulsory government programs. Seems good old everyman Joe really is the average guy...much more generous with everyone else's money than his own. Class act.

Mrs. Independent   September 14th, 2008 1:56 am ET

FrenchieCat_Du

I don't know what you have been listening to or reading, but the only campaign that I see running a misleading one is the republicans.
I've only seen dirty rotten tactics from McCain people, especially the one portraying that Barack wanted to teach five year olds sex education before
they could read, if that is not gutter politics I don't know what is.
I think that I will be voting democratic in this election, the republicans are way to negative for me, and I believe that have had their turn, and America has only gotten worse, and by the way they are only using Palin as a token, so that they can try and play the sexism card, and try to appeal to HRC voters, it is very apparent what they are doing.
Why would they have not picked a more qualified republican woman.

Janice   September 14th, 2008 2:00 am ET

No, that is certainly not Palin's baby regardless of how hard the media tries to impress upon us that it is. This is Bristol Palin's baby, and Bristol Palin is not five months pregnant as her mother claims. It's all over the internet that Bristol was out of school with mono for five months during this "supposed" pregnancy of her mother's, and schoolmates swear that she was pregnant.

I'm an RN, and assure you that this is the longest case of (non) mono on record. The only reason that Palin announced that Bristol is pregnant is because they knew if any investigating was done, it would be revealed that Trig is Bristol's.

I know many mothers who have babies back-to-back. More than likely she rebelled against her parents when they took her baby and claimed it as theirs and she immediately got pregnant again.

I saw pictures of Sarah Palin with her first pregnacy, and the pictures that I've seen just prior to her deliver are not of a pregnant woman. However, Bristol appears to be pregnant in one of those pictures.

I also noticed in the Palin fluff job, that her first child was born only eight months after her marriage.

THESE ARE THE VALUES THAT REPUBLICANS HAVE!!!

Tim: Portland, Oregon   September 14th, 2008 2:01 am ET

I really enjoyed the documentary and to be honest I got teary eyed at times. What a touching life story and what an honorable man. No one is perfect, Biden has made a few mistakes but his integrity, his character as a human being more than overshadow any little wrongs he may have done.

We have a cheating husband, an ex drug user and an unethical politician under investigations, non of which was or is Joe Biden.

Cheryl   September 14th, 2008 2:07 am ET

Biden has depth of character, substance and determination. Here is a man who is in touch with his human emotions and unashamed. As his story was told, his tears and laughter were appropriate and genuine. In his senate work, it is clear that he is dedicated to always putting forth his best effort. Once again, Barack Obama has demonstrated the sound judgement he will use as our next president.

Marnie21   September 14th, 2008 2:13 am ET

Loved it! CNN did a great job wish it had been a little longer though. Makes me ant to buy his book so I can get to know him better.

Mary Del Pino   September 14th, 2008 2:45 am ET

This was an excellent special! Prior to this CNN special report I had no idea of the personal challenges that Senator Biden has had to overcome. I am especially impressed with him correcting his stutter.
As a special education teacher I know how this could have devastated his self-esteem, but he overcame it. You could see how this topic was still painful for him to express. Children can be so cruel to each other when others are different. Let them criticize his long winded speeches, I say keep on talking Joe, loud and clear!! His personal tragedy, the loss of his wife and daughter and his own personal brush with death due to the aneuryisms show that he can overcome most challenges that will come his way.
I also watched the Palin special as well. It was rather interesting that this woman, who talks so much about her faith, was married by a Justice of the Peace, with two strangers as her witnesses. She eloped. Why would she have to do that?? Then the commentator in the next statement says, "about 8 months later their first child was born." So, it seems Sarah eloped because she was pregnant, just as her young 17 year old daughter is now pregnant. If her christianity was so important why have a civil ceremony herself. It says she was "saved" as a teen. It seems "Like mother, like daughter."

Enlightenment   September 14th, 2008 2:47 am ET

ABBIE, that was excellent!!! Obama and Biden is the ticket of integrity. I admire any who hold to the truth in the climate and culture of fantasy that so many follow today. CNN choosing you for the assignment was just as thoughtful as Obama's pick of Joe Biden as Vice President
:-)

cnnmum   September 14th, 2008 4:33 am ET

Ticker: CNN mum on Palin interview/horror show.

Phyllis Peterson   September 14th, 2008 4:54 am ET

Thank you for the "Candidates Revealed" specials. While the Biden documentary was great; it should have covered more of the various issues / policies he supported while serving. Because he certainly has fought for the citizens of this country on numerous issues and we need more people like him in government.....honest, straight forward, a man with high standards in his principles and actions....a true Statesman of the people!!

Disappointed in all of the sensationalism the news media created over McCain's VP choice and about his "woman" VP. Over done!!

CNN while they talk about the VP being a "heart beat away from the president" never speaks to the issues of "what happens if the (72 year old and oldest man running for president) President becomes MENTALLY unfit to govern.....like Reagan who suffered from Alzheimers during his second term in office, yet continued to govern as his incapacitated state....it didn't matter who his VP was and that could happen with McCain! Being President ages even young men beyond their years....McCain at 72 is all ready an old man who shows poor judgment and radical behavior. THAT IS SCARY!! Our government needs a strong leader and a leader with good judgment who will weigh things carefully, talk to his advisors and negotiate whenever possible.

Obama shows great leadership and judgment. He ponders things carefully and doesn't yield to pressure, rather considers all facts prior taking action. His recent European tour shows his ability to speak to other world leaders. It is this kind of leader for our country, one that will recapture "respect for our country" again in the World!!

Tom   September 14th, 2008 4:59 am ET

I love how everyone likes to drag Biden's foriegn relations record and his little spat in Kosovo around like he has done something. In truth that was never his job. He was elected by the people of Deleware to represent the people of Deleware. What he did was the job of the Secretary of State. Maybe if Joe would have been focused more on acting on the behalf of his voters in the Senate he would have a better reputation amongst...everybody

Dionne   September 14th, 2008 5:02 am ET

I absolutely LOVED this! CNN has allowed both VP nominees an hour to be 'revealed'. This was truly refreshing. I thing both displayed the goods, bads, unfortunates, uglies, and truths about Biden and Palin in a way that I never thought I'd see.
You did an extraordinary job with your assignment, and I think they selected the perfect person for the task.
Great Job Abbie! Great Job CNN!!!
Okay, and now for the the real blogger in me. To all the posters who viewed this as an opportunity for CNN to play to the side of the Democrats, I appreciate you taking time to respond. Your ignorance is my bliss as well as my fear. Abbie was only speaking of her experience because she was assigned to Joe Biden Revealed, while obviously a colleague of hers was assigned to Sarah Palin Revealed. As well, I recall watching CNN as they showed documentaries about Hilary Clinton, John McCain, and Barack Obama (this was before there was a "presumed" Democratic nominee), which totally negates the idea that CNN has failed to "investigate" Obama. GEEEESHH!!!
Even IF CNN is biased toward the Liberal side of this campaign, who cares? It's not up to CNN to help you decide who to vote for. YOU should take your time to research which candidate supports the same things you do. The negativity won't get you anywhere.
I think it is time to acknowledge the fact that the media doesn't claim to be the law. They have a job to do, and they enjoy high ratings. SO, as I continue to watch Hannity & Colmes to see just what the Conservatives are saying, I watch Anderson Cooper to see how the Liberals feel.....WHATEVER!
The "Revealed" documentaries were absolutely wonderful. I was truly excited about learning more of the REAL Sarah Palin story (Her younger years, a few more details into the truths that have been skewed by anti-Palin-ists, her family, how her friends feel about her - just a little insight into WHO she really is, beyond the mess that has been shoved in our faces to tear her down). I think CNN did a WONDERFUL job affording a snapshot of just that. I was more interested in finding out about who Joe Biden is. (I'm newly engaged to politics and I didn't know much about him before he was selected by Obama.) CNN did a MARVELOUS job presenting a one-hour synopsis of just that.
KUDOS, CNN!!!!!
Forget those who just don't get it. Sadly, if they don't get it soon, they never will.

S.HILL   September 14th, 2008 7:05 am ET

Palin has hogged the airways – but rest assured, Biden will pull this back after the VP debate.

Palin scares me – and she is a heartbeat away from the presidency. Obama has a candidate equally close to the presidency, but who can do the job. Don't take my word for it – 70% of Americans agree Biden is more capable than Palin.

jas   September 14th, 2008 7:05 am ET

How can someone who makes so much money and gives so little (close to nothing!) have such a little net worth? Must be an addiction somewhere.

Ken in NC   September 14th, 2008 7:45 am ET

I saw the program, Biden on CNN last night and think you did a great job. I'm sure you are aware there is so much more you could have included had it not been for time constraints. I have liked Job for many years. I researched him years ago in his previous runs for office and admired the man as a result of my research. I think he is one of the few Politicians in Washington that is a citizens politician. He is a peoples representative. Yes he has made some mistakes but then all of us have.

I do like the fact that he speaks his mind. Once he has spoken there is no doubt where he stands. I will admit that many do not like this kind of candor in others but I do.

I do not know if your assignment has caused you to have thoughts of voting for him but I do hope that you have brought a sense of respect for him from this assignment. I also watched the show on Gov. Palin and I have also done some research on her. I must admit that she scares the hell out of me. I consider to be a “Hair Trigger”. I do not relish the thought of something happening to Senator McCain and Gov. Palin having to take over. I am also uncomfortable with many of her positions.

My opinion is that Senator McCain made a very poor choice in her but I understand some of the reasons behind his decision. Many of the other potential VP choices would not tolerate his temperament. He had to find one that he and his staff could control. He wanted one that would solidify much of the Evangelical base for him and he found that in her. I’m sure she is not his idea of the VP he wants but this was the only way he could have his way.

Nicole Taylor   September 14th, 2008 8:13 am ET

I appreciate the time you put into revealing every aspect of the Democratic candidates lives. Thank you for Introducing them to me in a way that I can understand who I am actually voting for. I had no idea Joe had been "around the block" so long! Barrack really thought long and hard about who he wanted to "represent" our country with him. I applaud him and Joe for taking on such a task and thank you for the FREE "background check"...LOL Soledad, if you have not already reaped some Blessings, look out because God is on His way to bring you a house full of them.

I Would Be Honored To Have Biden As Our Next Vice President. Obama Made A Very Wise Decision For His Running Mate.

Obama 08!

Rob   September 14th, 2008 8:27 am ET

Pallin's doc was much more exciting, Biden is a has been.....Pallin on the other hand is new fresh, and the next Vice president of the US!!!!!!

tom from Pittsburgh   September 14th, 2008 8:45 am ET

Obama made the perfect choice for VP in Biden. Is anybody perfect? Of course not, but Biden brings a sense of humor to this little thing called 'the presidential election'. He is more humble than his critics think, dealt with personal tragedies and life threatening surgery. Delaware may be a small state, but they love him, after all he's never lost a Senate race.

He is a proud American like everyone else, and has the political ability and savvy to help lead with courage and will take his place in history with Obama.

The pundits say he talks too much, for goodness sake he's a politician, isn't it part of the job description. When American's want an answer to an important question, they'll get it with details, not a deer in the headlights look.

I can't wait for the VP debate, Biden will show why he's Obama's choice. In defense of the spotlight, Biden's not the show, Obama is. It's interesting that Palin gets more attention than the McCain. History will show that it may have been the worst VP pick of al time.

Friend of Obama   September 14th, 2008 9:02 am ET

This was an unbelievable story – very moving (ok I have to admit – I cried). Compared to Palin's story, Biden exemplified how to juggle parenthood and work. He was a single parent – FATHER- and he put his family first. It was very evident from the beginning that Biden wanted to put his family first. and gave the Governor a six-month trial period. Palin put herself first before her family – it was evident from her story that she is only interested in herself, and that she will sacrifice or use her family to get ahead.

Enrique   September 14th, 2008 9:15 am ET

It is now or never. Two historic events have marked the process to define the Dems ticket. The second, as critic as the first, was to pick a genuine American that has a clear mind on that the US role as world leader comes from understanding the different cultures and realities and not from bullying around to shape them 'the American way'. Furthermore, as much as as abroad, the need to feel that the VP is "one of us" makes it a question of do or die on November.

Drum Dawg   September 14th, 2008 9:25 am ET

Isn't it amazing how Democrats are scrambling because their ticket is much weaker? Sorry, but as an independant, I can make an educated judgement without bias. McCain/Palin is much, much stronger on every issue. Unless of course, you think it's ok to rip a baby out of a womens womb.

Paul O   September 14th, 2008 9:39 am ET

I think it is about time the focus is turned towards something worth while. With Palin involved in this race now, which is just a completely BAD yet Frightening JOKE, I feel like watching any news these days. Is like sitting at a little league soccer game surrounded by all the moms gossiping! That is a horrible horrible place to be.
So yes please get us out of the bleachers and take us somewhere that makes is worth applying time and energy towards. Getting to know who we are voting for is important and I would imagine the Palin ticket is pretty much summed up for most. McCain / Palin "Unexceptable"
Obama / Biden...go ahead and tell us what we need to know to make a good strong choice for our future.

Thanks so much.

Eileen   September 14th, 2008 9:42 am ET

To Hilliary supporter
I don't know enough about Obama to elect him president because the main stream media holds back. I will not vote for a party that disregards my vote.
I had supported Hillary Clinton basically
because of the health care issue (the Republicans
just don't get it), and then as the primaries went
on, I felt the need to defend her against the
media and her own party, and I respected her
class, grit , and determination. I still respect
Hillary Clinton.
I respect Gov Palin and feel the need to defend her against the media and the Democratic party (of which I belong). She is one of us and hasn't been tainted by Washington.
I like Biden but just don't like him enough to vote for an Obama/Biden ticket.

Becky   September 14th, 2008 9:43 am ET

I watched the Biden piece last night and think it was very objective and informative. Thank you. I did not see the Palin piece but hopefully it was as objective.

Westin Hatch   September 14th, 2008 10:02 am ET

Choosing Biden was the worst decision Obama could have made in this election and it will cost him dearly if not the whole election. Biden is a good guy but he is the status quo of Washington. He is one of the road blocks that is impeding Washington from functioning. Obama's choice for Biden as his VP goes against all the stances of change and reform that he has ever uttered. It was like shooting him in the foot. I understand he wanted someone with experience but Biden? Why not Richardson who is not in Washington and has executive experience and the Hispanic vote? Biden a good man but a horrible pick for VP.

Marie-Lynn fl   September 14th, 2008 10:08 am ET

Sarah Palin is just an opportunist who will do everything for super power, Biden is someone real. So McCain pick really is just a trick with no honnor of integrity.

AlaskanWannaB   September 14th, 2008 10:09 am ET

To those of you who think people are dragging Palin through the mud: I believe the only reason this is happening is because Palin appears to have exaggerated some of her experience or accomplishments. For example, her travel to foreign countries were exaggerated. People question her experience? Yes, because she is an unknown. However, had she been honest from the beginning, even being an unknown with limited experience, she would be a huge asset to the Republican Party and no one could touch her. Palin did this to herself.

eli   September 14th, 2008 10:09 am ET

I watched both documentaries. About Palin, not because I am interested in her but because I might have a wrong impression and might have to change it. But it got confirmed: she is full of herself and a lot of hot air. The type of person an intelligent person should never trust. Then Joe Biden. It is obvious that a lot of Americans dont appreciate intelligence and experience. Especially not in the field of foreign affairs. Most dont know what that is and basically dont care. Idiots live in their own little world, That is what the word means.,,look it up under classic Greek. Unfortunately, the majority of our population belongs into that category. However, ignorance is the root of all evil and what goes around comes around, This would be a chance for us to turn around and fix what is wrong. Palin is the idiot's choice.

Peter   September 14th, 2008 10:09 am ET

CNN should be ashamed of its negative Biden documentary that followed a star-struck Palin documentary glossing over or not even mentioning her many failings like her interest in banning books or her charging the government to sleep in her own bed. Most egregiously, while the Palin documentary did not say that she kept repeating debunked campaign slogans like her bridge-to-nowhere slogan which she only said "no thanks" to only AFTER she took the money, Biden's painfully recorded each of his mistakes in the Senate. That would have been fine but for the fact that there were no examples of his many achievements as a Senator including his steller efforts on women's issues and his hand in many foreign policy successes. Biden's vote against Clarence Thomas was painted in a sleazy light when, in fact, many courageous senators voted with him not to confirm Thomas because of this justice's lackluster resume - certainly unfit for the Nation's highest court. It is interesting that Sarah Palin did not allow herself to be interviewed for this supposed in-depth "Revealed" documentary but Biden did. However, Biden's heartfelt words and sincere messages were drowned out by the calculating digs of Republican strategists who were presented as credible witnesses. I would have expected more from CNN but it looks like you guys have also fallen for the well-used play from the Republican playbook; tear down the opposition so nobody looks at your own record of failure and talk about everything but the things that matter most to the American people so that come election night, they'll pull the levers like the zombies they have been for the past 8 years.

eli   September 14th, 2008 10:19 am ET

Chasman you fit the picture of the true all American idiot. In case you cant read: your hero left his first wife for one that is rich.... rich people give to charity because a) it makes them look better than they are and b) it's tax deductible. The latter is of importance. They dont give away money they earned. It's either inherited, or stolen or both. In terms of McCain's integrity and character, there is only one word to describe it: inferior.

Chief   September 14th, 2008 10:20 am ET

Obama is supposed to be the agent for change, and he picks a guy who has be entrenched in D.C. for 30+ years? I love the fact that Obama spouts about how we can't survive another eight years of the same...but, last time I checked we had a Democratic Congress. What happened to all the change that Nancy Pelosi guaranteed?

Obama is joke, and Biden is part of the establishment. The Democrats spout about how the war in Iraq is bringing the country down...but, has there been another incident lik 9-11 in our country? No, because the fight with terrorists is taking place in the Middle East. I know, because I am in the military and have been there. Wake up and smell the crap the Democrats are peddling.

Tina S   September 14th, 2008 10:20 am ET

Joe Biden is an excellent candidate.

The racebaiting Obama campaign is this: YOU ARE THE RACIST.

Jacob   September 14th, 2008 11:27 am ET

To compare Obama and Palin as far as experience is absurd. Palin attended six colleges in seven years to get a BA in sports journalism, while Obama graduated magna cum laude from Harvard, was an editor for their law review after his first year, and was editor in cheif by the end of his second year. Palins was a sports reporter and a runner up miss Alaska before her career in politics, whereas Obama taught law, and helped set up tutoring for those without access. He also worked to increase the number of blacks in Illinois who actually vote.

We can compare Biden and McCain though, both graduated near the bottoms of their respective classes, McCain in the naval acadamy, and Biden from delaware and syracuse. McCain does not have any formal education in politics from before he entered the lifestyle.

He also didn't have the guts to call himself a Goldwater conservative while Goldwater was still alive. Goldwater would have publicly corrected him.

Jean L.   September 14th, 2008 11:30 am ET

I think that Biden's long term understanding of the world and it's leaders's is so important to the safety of our country and hopefully will improve our positon on the world scene. Understanding of what leaders are like, the different cultural nuasances, and a deep understanding of our history canNot be taught in a "Cliff Notes" version that Sarah Palin is at present receiving. A true leader(McCain) who is supposodly the one strong on foreign relations shouldn't choose someone so lax in that area just to get elected. When he does that he is choosing position over love of country.

lucy   September 14th, 2008 11:34 am ET

it's about time! i am bored to death with mccain's bimbo of the week and would really like to hear more about a candidate who actually knows something, thinks, and doesn't lie!

LE   September 14th, 2008 11:35 am ET

Bravo. It is about time America got to really "know Joe!!"
Let's get some fair coverage. Let us all SEE what a REAL VP candidate qualifcations are like! Let us see who could very well be the 2nd in command of the WORLD.
GO JOE!

Bob H.   September 14th, 2008 11:36 am ET

I am a republican and really want to vote with the republicans. But can anybody see what has happen over the last eight years with this economy. People are suffering with high gas prices, high food prices and poor health care. I really don't think John Mccain has a clue. He chose this poor woman to win a campaign for him, not to help the economy. He is not being impacted by this at all. It is all a game for him. And he wants to win at any cause. I think I'll vote democrate. I need a change.

ron from Georgia   September 14th, 2008 11:37 am ET

To all the people who think a political candidate should not have to answer questions. when we go for a job interview, the hiring manager investigates our credentials, It has to be done or you could imagine the problems that could come up later!
The person who decides to run for public office has to answer any questions put to them by the media, no matter how tough and it is unfortunate for them, the media is our vetting of them. These have our lives and our children's live in their hand.
A candidate for VP might have to take over that position and must be above reproach also. Joe Biden has taken his lumps and put it out for us to judge, so has Barack Obama.
The fact that the Republican Party is arrogant enough that they feel we as American don't need to know the specifics of their Energy, Foriegn and Domestic policy until they are ready to tell us is disrespectful to America.I personally think John McCain is above that and it is unfortunate that he is letting his handlers keep him in the dark about what is going on.

C.A. Childs   September 14th, 2008 11:37 am ET

Folks, lets cool it off.

We can say all we want about the candidates, their personal lives and their net worth. Lets focus on the issues. If you are satisfied the way the country is heading, then its simple vote 'Repulbican' on 11/4. If you want things to change, then vote 'Democrat'.
If you want to be brain-washed by Sarah Palin lies and parading her family to play on your feelings, then you are just as dumb. If you want to feel sorry for John McCain because he was a POW, then you are just silly. How may families in this country have 5 or more children, single parents at that who do not have the luxury of a cook, maid or housekeeper? Sarah Palin has that luxury so how hard can it be for her to raise 5 children. If you really want to know how hard it is raising 5 or more children then lets talk to the folks who really know. There are folks with 3 mentally challenged children, and in my opinion is a much harder job. If Palin is talking all these lies now, how can anyone trust her. If you want to get sucked into voting for a woman because she is a woman, then go ahead. John McCain is acting as if he is the only person who has ever served this country and is playing on the emotions of people. Sorry to say, but Americans are sucking into this also. McCain is just as much a liar as Sarah Palin.

For some people to be bashing Joe Biden over his net worth is hypocritical. How many of us make a decent salary and have a negative net worth? or drowning in debts that we cannot afford?

For people to not want to vote for Obama, not because of his policies, but more because of race is a down right shame.

I am neither a democrat or republican, but I got sucked in the last time being a born-again christian and voted for George Bush because I did not agree with Kerry on abortion. That is one vote I have regretted in my entire 56 years and refuse to make the same mistake again. I should not have used one issue to vote against a candidate. This time threre are too many issues with the republican party for me to support them.

To each his own. If you are happy with the way things have been for the last 8 years, vote republican, if not then vote democrat.

Anne   September 14th, 2008 11:47 am ET

It's laughable how experience doesn't seem to be a prerequisite for the job of Vice President anymore, but that is not the case with Joe Biden. He made some mistakes along the way, but I thought the documentary told a story of a man that continued to brush himself off, get back on the horse, and a man that continued to be re-elected. If George Bush were running again, there is no way he would be reelected, and I wonder who would give him a job doing anything right now. What's important is that there are high school kids with more knowledge about world events and politics than Sarah Palin, and she could very well be our President some day. The Republican commentaries are laughing about this – and acknowledge that right now this is a popularity contest, pure and simple, and that this election is not about the issues. Unemployment is going to continue going up and I hope the Republicans are the ones that are losing their jobs. They deserve it for voting for the ticket they think they have "more in common with" than the ticket that actually will turn this mess around. I can't WAIT to see Sarah Palin debate Joe Biden. How obvious does incompetence have to be for some people before they'll vote with their heads? McCain has backpedalled on all his "change" issues, stolen the Obama slogan, and Palin is a Republican puppet. It would be funny if it wasn't so serious. I have seen so many plants on message boards too that say "oooh, I was going to vote this way but after reading these posts, I'm going to vote this way instead". The McCain campaign has been the most underhanded, deceptive, disgusting campaign of all time and you're complaining about some angry Democrats on a message board? Yeah, we're angry. The Republicans have had the White House for 8 years and now they seem to have think they have the God-given right to run it into the ground some more. They'd be behind by a mile if wasn't from their pageant queen from Alaska. That's how shallow the Republican base is.

Chasman   September 14th, 2008 11:53 am ET

Eli,

I dont understand why you need to name call. It happens so often on this internet forums dominated by left-wingers. Personally, Im a libertarian, so McCain is far from a political hero to me. I just believe it's amazing that someone who has voted for so much increased government spending and against virtually every tax cut for decades gives so little of his own bloated government salary to the people about whom he purports to care so much. By the way, Biden is also "rich" under Obama's definition, and therefore should be doing so much more.

Pablo   September 14th, 2008 11:53 am ET

Thanks for doing this report. I think this will show that Obama was 100% right about chosing Joe Biden. Biden is more qualify to be second in command because he is more expirience thant Mccain, Palin abd Obama combine. I was for Clinton and Obama ticket all the way, but went you see JOE BIDEN RECORD, it show you that he could carry this country on his own.
after your report is done and the nation see the diferent betwen Palin and Biden Obama lead with ride higher than never before.
thanks CNN.
Pablo (Boston)

Harry   September 14th, 2008 12:00 pm ET

Joan's comments are "right on". Joe Biden is a plagiarist (that means thief and liar) so he fits right in with the rest of the Democrats especially the Clintons. In addition, he doesn't know when to shut up as evidenced by his racisit remarks concerning persons of Indian and Pakistani origin. This guy has done very little to improve/support American ciitizens and typifies the Washington insiders that populate the US Senate and Congress. He's a disgrace as are most of them currently serving.

Steve in Tacoma   September 14th, 2008 12:04 pm ET

Biden understands the complexity of keeping our country safe by working with all other willing partners in the world. Palin, however, when asked about the Bush doctrine said his aim to "rid the world of all terrorists." We will never vanquish the existence of all terrorists, and we must be smarter than thinking we can. She missed the point altogether, and her response was the typical hyperbole meant only to avoid the real issue

Chasman   September 14th, 2008 12:09 pm ET

Obama votes 97% with Harry Reid. Thats real change we can believe in.

Stacey   September 14th, 2008 12:14 pm ET

I WILL NOT STAND BY AND WATCH A WOMAN BEING PIMPED BY THE REPUBLICAN PARTY. BECAUSE THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT JOHN MCCAIN IS DOING TO SARAH PALIN. HE IS USING THIS WOMAN TO GET INTO THE WHITE HOUSE. SHAME ON HIM AND ANYBODY ELSE THAT VOTE FOR HIM.

E Murray   September 14th, 2008 12:18 pm ET

I thought it was an pretty good until you failed to mention Biden's most important accomplishments in the Senate, like Violence Against Women's Act, the Violence, his work in Bosnia. You also didn't mention that his son will be deployed to Irak hmmmmm, just as Palin's. I was really touched by the fact that this man decided to place his family first in the worst of times as a single father in a time when it wasn't the normal thing to do, while Pailin decided to place her career first when her family needed her the most, with a teenage pregnant daughter and a child with special needs... This proves that you don't have to be a man or a woman to choose your family over your career. Family ALWAYS COMES FIRST!!!!!! If you can't run your family, how are you expected to run a country????

sophia   September 14th, 2008 12:33 pm ET

Joe Biden is awesome.
I truly enjoyed the documentary.
What I saw was spirit of "drivenness", humility and dignity.
What a decent human being. Not perfect but oh, so decent.

Obama/Biden 08

Greg Bullard   September 14th, 2008 12:33 pm ET

Abbie,
I watched the piece last night, and you did an incredible job. He has a battered, flawed, inspiring and uncanny history behind him, and you did a great job of showing this. You should be so proud. He was the best pick for a VP, and I believed that long before it was cool. If we have 16 years of Obama and then Biden, I really believe it'll set the tone of a new generation.

Cupcakery   September 14th, 2008 12:37 pm ET

ABBIE. I was stunned, shocked and saddened to see you spend an hour on BIden without detailing ANY of his accomplishments. If I knew nothing of him and watched your documentary, I'd walk away thinking about plagiarism and credit cards. Considering this election will be decided by independent women, the choice to leave out his work on the Violence Against Women Act looks like a glaring omission. Not to mention the absense of the below accomplishments. Shamefully negligient reporting. Also, as character witnesses, you chose only 2 old friends who while sweet, were doddering. Why not any prominent colleagues? This was the most lacking "reveal" I've ever seen.

Biden’s leadership was instrumental in helping to bring stability and peace to the Balkans. In 1999, Biden wrote a resolution endorsing the air war in Kosovo that was passed by the Senate.

Biden is a leader on the congressional effort to end genocide in Darfur.

In the late 1990s, Biden led the effort in the Senate to bring Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic into NATO and to pass the Chemical Weapons Treaty.

Biden has been instrumental in crafting almost every major piece of crime legislation over the past two decades. His Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994 put more than 100,000 police officers on America’s streets and has been credited with bringing down crime rates to the lowest in a generation.

In 1996, Biden authored legislation to create a national registry of sex offenders, which tracks people convicted of sex crimes involving violence or committed against minors.

Biden authored and passed the landmark Violence Against Women Act, the strongest legislation to date that criminalizes domestic violence and holds batterers accountable.

Biden was a strong supporter of the Family and Medical Leave Act, cracked down on deadbeat dads, and has been a consistent champion for equal pay.

Biden was one of the first to introduce legislation to address global warming and he co-sponsored the most aggressive piece of climate change legislation in the U.S. Senate.

Biden is a champion on the issue of making college more affordable by using the tax code to reduce costs.

Biden was successful in passing a provision that prevents budget cuts to military facilities while the nation is at war, one of his key priorities, ensuring that all veterans have top-notch medical treatment in a fully-funded VA health care system.

Equality   September 14th, 2008 12:42 pm ET

I am sure everyone in USA now knows about Sarah Palin, who she is, where she is from, her values, etc. I believe it is now time for a great news agency like CNN to start balancing between Biden and her. Atleast, give him the same mileage. Let the folks hear him too. Maybe, he has the stuff. I am neither a Obama, nor a McCain follower, but going by what the media is covering, it is unfair not to provide one of the VP candidates same amount of coverage and mileage.

CCJ   September 14th, 2008 12:45 pm ET

First to Harry

The whole plagiarism report, apparantley you need to do your research and listen better. First of all, in his speech he forgot that one time to credit the author of that speech. He had used that speech several times before and had always credit the author. The one time he forgot is the one time the media chose to report it. So in reality the media should have also noted that he had in the past credited the author and the documentary clearly states that. Second, the law school plagiarism, if you look at the records and do your research, you will find that Biden had footnoted his comment, but he used a different method of footnote, a historian footnote, not a law school footnote. There are so many different requirements for footnotes depending on the style you choose to write your paper, and depending on the department and school. Biden only knew off footnoting for history and ´political science, not law school. He made a mistake with his footnote, and he even discussed it with the Law school council. The law school and the professor accepted his mistake and even honored him for noting his mistake and being upfront bout it from teh beggining. They told him to repeat the class, and he did. To me that is honorable. If the law school had no problem with it why should you. And just as a seperate note, several scholars have made mistakes in their footnoes, and accused of plagiarism, yet people continue to admire their works, Stephen Ambrose is the best example.

As for the documentary, I agree with E. Murray, it was a good documentary, it showed the human side of Biden, that I greatly admire. But it did fail to demonstrate his greatest achievements as the Delaware senator. He has done a great deal to protect women and children, and he has done a great deal with reducing crime in his state. I also agree that it should have told viewers how Biden´s son is also going to Iraq this year.

He is truly a remarkable man, I do not know how I would have been able to survive the death of a child and a spouse, be a senator, and raise two children, he has proven how important a parent is in the life of a child, that he said it right, delaware can always get another senator, but those boys could not get another father. He always carries his rosary with him, a man of prayer and faith. I am hoping that CNN will have another interview with him. please Anderson Cooper interview the senator so that America can see what a decent man he is.

As someone who lived in dc for 7 years, I have never met or seen or even heard of a senator who commutes an hour and a half every morning by train to Union Station, and then back another hour and a half to delware from dc. THat is devotion to his family and that devotion is what he will have with the american people, he is devoted and that is the kind of leader i want in the white house with Obama.

No disrespect to Hillary Clinton, i love this woman, i am a woman and i admire all her work. But biden is a great man too and please people do not vote against this ticket because Hillary is not on it, vote for our future.

Sherri from Los Angeles   September 14th, 2008 12:49 pm ET

I wish someone would question the quality of Palin's parenting skills. There seems to be no expectation for her children to aspire for higher education. To me, she is like a line backer, hard hitting but, not viewed as the brightest bulb on the tree. I think working mothers want more for their children than the notion that lowering the achievement bar is now acceptable.

des smart   September 14th, 2008 12:57 pm ET

Abbie, thank you for a well written, visually compelling and balanced piece on Biden. Biden came across as solid albeit with flaws common to his experience and role. The piece gave me insight into Biden that I did not have before.

philthetruth   September 14th, 2008 1:19 pm ET

It's funny how idealogues get lost in irrelevant details of Biden this and Biden that, and how they forget where they live and why where they live is unique. There's just one big problem with being concerned about Joe Biden: He's not running for President! Near as I can tell, the only reason he was put on the ticket was to tell Obama what to do and say since the only thing Obama brings to the table is experience in writing books and trying to make his voice sound like MLK. Reminder: The issue is who is running for President not VP, that's the difference in these tickets. Obama's gonna lose worse than McGovern...

ez4o   September 14th, 2008 1:26 pm ET

Joan
You belittle Biden for the little he has accomplished. And he is only running for the # 2 slot. How about McC who is running for the # 1 slot. What has he accomplished in 20 + years? Other than trying to garner alot of sympathy for being a POW. Being one does not qualify you for prez. If so,there would be alot of qualified candidates, including in countries which were invaded during his administration's watch, and wrongly sol

Michael Black   September 14th, 2008 1:39 pm ET

I'ne liked Joe for some time. The documentary showed that he is really a man of principles and strength. His ability to change his stuttering by practicing in front of a mirror shows his determination. He is a no nonsense humanist who seems to care more about people than power.

Monica   September 14th, 2008 1:40 pm ET

Please note the tone and disrespect posted by Republicans regarding Sen Biden.

Carlos   September 14th, 2008 2:08 pm ET

I think, actually, I KNOW Biden is a much better and qualified pick than Palin. Obama party has is not sexist. Have you seen what Fox commentators and McCain's own head campaign person, who is a woman, said about Hillary. Are you serious? Republicans have been the most sexist people I have ever witnessed. I think I saw one Rep. Fox commentator say that Hillary would "hide behind her apron" if challenged by men on issues. Now you cannot tell me that is not a sexist remark.

Biden and Obama are hones have not left their wives for richer ones, unlike Mr. McCain. Palin has outright lied about her tenure on issues regarding earmarks and pork barrel request and spending. Instead of a "Bridge to No Where" she built a "Road to Nowhere". I would not be surprised if Alaska doesn't become a pool of oil encrusted sparse land if McCain and her get into office.

Obama and Biden have the know how and the experience to make America a MUCH better country. Our European allies think so. I would rather have a duo that other countries like than want nothing to do with if McCain Palin get into office. I would fear for our lives and our planet.

Good job, I would be greatful of a good Biden documentary to show his good works and blow Palins meager experience out of the water.

P Berry   September 14th, 2008 2:16 pm ET

Abbie: You left out a lot Joe's accomplishments, one for example is the Violence Against Women Act in which he wrote and helped to get passed, instead you focused more on the negative. Also, you did the Sarah Palin piece first yet there is no blog regarding her. What's up with that? Did the McCain campaign reject to it or something? Sounds fishy to me because us viewers deserved a chance to offer our view on her as well.

kms   September 14th, 2008 3:14 pm ET

I found it interesting after watching both vp profiles that you felt the need to include Bristol Palins pregnancy (yet she's not running) and even though you repeatedly interviewed the Biden sons, nothing was mentioned about their possible indictments..... keep up the unbiased journalism, we Americans are too stupid to notice.....right?

Mary   September 14th, 2008 3:18 pm ET

CNN Dont have the Guts or the Balls to Confront Biden about his lobbist Son who is just now baily out of his Job! Let see how they deal with this one, Let see how Clean Hunter pants are, I wonder if they will reveal this information on the Biden family, they shore had the balls to confront Sarah Palin, about her issues,

MOONMAIDEN FROM LAKE MICHIGAN   September 14th, 2008 3:23 pm ET

YoU ROCK JOE.

Can't wait for the debates

Carolina   September 14th, 2008 3:25 pm ET

Brad...expand your horizons and do some research. Biden is not "hiding". His speeches are widely available and is apprearing at rallies around the country. Want to see him "grilled" in an interview. Look that up too. You'd be amazed at what information is available once you truly decide you want to hear it.

dave g   September 14th, 2008 3:35 pm ET

"Biden – 35 inconsequential years in Washington"

Obama – the judgment to look backwards for the Vice Presidential candidate of the future.

Gia in Los Angeles   September 14th, 2008 3:45 pm ET

Abbie, you did a fabulous job! I enjoyed the documentary very much. There were some very emotional moments and very insightful moments. I thought it was well rounded, balancing all the main issues. I watched both VP documentaries, as I hope others did. If they did, I'm sure they would realize that the Obama-Biden ticket will be much better for America. You defiitely got the better assignment!

Naomi Tx   September 14th, 2008 4:05 pm ET

LOOK.....................The only ONLY reason Palin is on the ticket is because she is pretty and because she is a woman and Mc Cain thought that would sway votes for him..................PLEASE I am a proud American woman with a special needs child. There is a clear difference between a child with disability in real life low income family and Mrs. Palin's family..............I bet none of her children were on Medicaid. She never had to make a choice between groceries or that fourth med that medicaid didn't cover. I bet she doesn't know what it feels like to get a twenty cent raise and get your childs medicaid taken away because you were over income and then your insurance said well that child had a PRE existing condition we will not pay either. DOES she know real world stuggles?????NO I was a Hillary supporter but CHANGE IS NEEDED and I am now an Obama Backer..
I wish it would have been Obama/Hillary but we don't get what we want hopefully we get what we need. Texas Democrats make some noise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Carol   September 14th, 2008 4:08 pm ET

Isn't this interesting..."Palin just does not have the qualifications as Biden for Vice President..." we hear again and again. And what about President?? Obama ("present") vs. McCain's experience. Geez...I thought it was president, then running mate we voted for....I will watch the programs and be interested if "fair reporting" is done or reporting according to "political leanings" of station and reporters. Let's all just concentrate on the issues, changes and policies that matter...

RKing   September 14th, 2008 4:11 pm ET

There was quite an article in the NY Times about Palin written by some of the people from Wasilla, Alaska.
I watched the Biden revealed last night and am glad that there is someone other than Palin that is fully qualified to take over as President if need be. It was a very informative program. I really like him and feel he knows the middle class people well and is what everyone needs as VP because of his experience in foreign affairs and years in the senate. He came from a good family and raised a good family.

Aneli   September 14th, 2008 4:22 pm ET

Looking forward to seeing the segment. Biden was my second choice in the primaries. He's so real, unvarnished, genuine, comfortable-in-his-skin and SO deeply knowledgeable about everything anyone can throw his way - plus, he just doesn't seem concerned about what others think of him which leaves him able to focus on doing his job and *telling the truth*. I also love the warm rapport between the Bidens and the Obamas. In Palin's first week on the McCain ticket, she seemed to grimmace every time McCain embraced her. I doubt that chemistry or lack of would affect the election, just interesting people-watching. Can't wait to learn more about Joe!

Peggy Williamson   September 14th, 2008 4:23 pm ET

Will Biden help Obama kill Nate Walsh or will he give him a silver spoonful of due process? I was looking to see if the Sept. 12 Backtrack Obama speech was available for everyone to see or if the text of "Yes we can without Nate Walsh" was just a right-wing conspiracy.

Phil Baxter   September 14th, 2008 4:50 pm ET

All of you empty headed democrats who think Palin isn't experienced enough need to look to the top of your own ticket. Obama has literally nothing to run on other than promises and smooth talk, what little experience he has was wasted on 'present' votes. This guy is running for President not VP, and he has nothing to show us as evidence of his competence. Why not wait until this guy actually has a resume before voting him in? The fact that the only competition this guy had in the primaries was the dem's last first lady is simply a testament to how incredibly retarded your average democrat is. You guys deserve what fate you've sealed for yourselves, only a collection of blinding morons could lose an election to Bush and grant him a second term. When all things point in your favor, when the country literally hates it's incumbent president, you still fall flat on your faces. Your congress is the worst ever, your presidential nominee is a fog machine in an empty suit and you're going to deservedly spend the next four years riding the pine again.

gerald   September 14th, 2008 4:52 pm ET

Joe seems to be the type Obama wants CHANGE. Foriegn policy??
Is there someone in the world that does't hate us?? Love our money, what we don't owe to other govts.

Cheryl of San Diego   September 14th, 2008 4:56 pm ET

ONE THING IS SURE...BIDEN IS THE MOST QUALIFIED AND THEREFORE, THE BEST PICK FOR A VP (THANKS OBAMA). PALIN, GO BACK HOME TO ALASKA...THE CHILREN NEED A MOTHER!!!

Ernie   September 14th, 2008 5:01 pm ET

Joe Biden is just a bag of hot air, he talks the talk, but in the end he gives in. I wonder if he would just give in to foreigners on very important issues? He likes to show grin and shoe his 48 horse teeth.

Dave Hallmark   September 14th, 2008 5:02 pm ET

I would like to know why no one is mentioning that Mr. Biden still owes money from his campain for President that he refuses to pay. When is someone going to investigate that?

Marion   September 14th, 2008 5:05 pm ET

I watched the documentary on Joe Biden. What I got from that, was that he is a man who has a very gentle heart and loves his family beyond anything else. In other words, he has a great heart.

I had a thought about what Joe Biden and Barack Obama must have done, the morning that John McCain announced that Sarah Palin was his choice of running mate....they must have "high 5'd" each other...I can't WAIT to see her take on Joe Biden in a debate....that should be very very entertaining inded. I've watched her interviews with Charlie Gibson, and if ever there was someone who is completely out of her depth, it is Sarah Palin...talk about trying to baffle someone with B>S. and blind them with science ????

I am a huge Obama and Biden fan, even though I am Canadian...I follow the US politics very closely and am fascinated by what I see and hear...

Keith   September 14th, 2008 5:07 pm ET

The only thing significant or intellegent I've heard him say was his defense of Hillary.

But other than that, yawn!!! 65 and a
washington insider!! Go figure!

mitzi   September 14th, 2008 5:07 pm ET

being a former delawarean and meeting him i admire him for family first and the love he has for his family

Paul Muller   September 14th, 2008 5:11 pm ET

I appreciated the inside information as to hoe Sen Biden and his son are owned by MBNA. I feel your pain. Biden sides with the credit card companies while thousands of middle classs folks get evicted from their homes. Sweet !

Old lady V   September 14th, 2008 5:12 pm ET

Two points stood out in last night's "Sarah Palin Revealed" and "Joe Biden Revealed:"

1. the Biden biography included snippets from Republican strategists denigrating his accomplishments or accusing him of misdeeds. The Palin biography had no corresponding Democratic strategists,

2. several mentions were made of Palin bringing infant children to work with her as if this were something to be applauded. I say she was lucky to be the boss and able to get away with it. I'd love to see the reaction if a teacher, waitress, nurse, or secreatary hauled her newborn into work and set up a cradle in the corner. Come on, folk, let's get real.

Art Fern   September 14th, 2008 5:13 pm ET

Joe brings decades of foreign policy experience to the ticket and it doesn't come from being able to see Russia from his ONE AND ONLY home. It's really very simple. Are you better off than you were 8 years ago? If not, vote Obama/Biden '08!

Greg   September 14th, 2008 5:14 pm ET

CNN is horribly biased. Look back over the 12 hrs worth of head lines. Slanted steeply toward the liberal Dems. Thank God for Fox News.

Judy   September 14th, 2008 5:15 pm ET

Watched Joe Biden Revealed last evening, ditto the parallel piece on Sarah Palin, and after those 2 hrs., came away knowing that Joe Biden is a great choice for Vice President. And if, God forbid, anything happened to Obama while in office, I'd be comfortable with Biden becoming President. I cannot possibly say the same thing about Sarah Palin. McCain chose her to garner the women's vote....which shows you how little he thinks of women't intelligence in general. Gov. Palin is not even in the same political universe as Joe Biden. She needs to go back to Alaska, be glad that she is governor, and then, over TIME, try for a Congressional seat. I suspect that was her original agenda, until this golden opportunity of being McCain's cheerleader plopped into her life.

Enough said. I'll be proud to vote for Obama and Biden.

Bill in NC   September 14th, 2008 5:18 pm ET

Another liberal media puff piece trying to push their own agenda instead of doing some real reporting.

Barb   September 14th, 2008 5:19 pm ET

I do hope you will include Joe Biden's problems with plagerism–this was the reason he withdrew from his presidential campaign many years ago.

Larry   September 14th, 2008 5:20 pm ET

Palin is nothing more than fabrication unlike joe
Let’s look at her record…..

1) Notes thanks but no thanks for bridge to nowhere, truth flopped on support for bridge after media pressure from congress. She also kept the earmark money for the bridge and spent it on other pet projects in Alaska the truth is she never rebuffed congress (NBC 08/31/08,Anchorage Daily News 08/31/08, CBS 08/31/08, Reuters, CNN, CBS 09/03/08)
2) Not in Iraq as previously stated only at Kuwait-Iraq boarder…Didn’t have clearance to enter Iraq. (Boston Globe 09/13/08, CNN 09/13/08, NBC 09/14/08)
3)Against earmarks is not a true statement the truth is Alaska is the largest state per capita for the use of earmarks (LA Times 09/03/08, Washington Post 09/11/08)
4) Posable abuse of power (Troppergate) Used her position as governor to fire her ex brother in law due to bitter devorce with her sister. (CNN 09/11/08, NBC 09/03/08, Anchorage Daily News 09/05/08)
5) Wasting taxpayers money. Charges perdium for working out of home as governor for 312 nights along with travel for her family for a total of $43,490 for the year(Washington Post 09/08/08, NY Times 09/09/08)
6) As mayor of Wasilla charged victims for rape kits a direct jab against women and a small attempt to impose her views. (USA Today 09/10/08)
7) As governor hired She hired a former lobbyist for a pipeline company to help oversee a multibillion-dollar deal with that same company. Even as mayor hired a lobbiest for ear marks and did well (27 million for the town)(Huffington Post 09/14/08, Washington Post)
Plane sold on ebay is a lie the truth is it was posted on ebay but was pulled after poor biding and sold by a broker for a loss by the taxpayers (Huffington Post 09/05/08, Washington Post (09/05/08)

Palin may say the media is out to get her but the truth is she doesn’t tell the truth. She says she is a reformer reformer of what she uses the system better than anyone. Really what is she going to reform women rights for decrease pay for same work, reform the right of choice (become government control over a women’s vagina), or become a symbol for why we should not elect a women. (I,m not against women I think smart, honorable women such as Thatcher and Cambell who rose to top office in their countries (England, Canada) are great reps of women in top office)

bob   September 14th, 2008 5:22 pm ET

Joe Biden is one of my heros. 36 years in the Senate. home every night despite a 90 minute ride on a train. A family man hwo's every family member is first and foremost to him.
His votes as a senator usually go on the side of the idividual- their needs, their best interest.
He can be outspoken, but does not belittle if he does not agree with someone elese views. He will speak his mind, usually backed up by facts and hisotry. He has priased every candniate in this election, despite differences. He has been candid about hillary possibly being a better choice than himself for office and even priased Sarah Palin, while point out a contrast in backgrounds.
I wish america would take the time to really listen to Joe, He has a lot to say and it makes sense for all sides!

Jeff   September 14th, 2008 5:23 pm ET

The "revealed" on Sarah Palin was so far off base. new things thats been found about her and other documents has cleared her of so many rumors that this bad reporting is still harping on. In CNN's attempt to get the story first they basicly trashed her on 3 issues and if they would have waited till the interview, then they would have taken bogus stuff out of this "revealed" about her.

Biden's was good though, He had a sad personal story.

Oren   September 14th, 2008 5:23 pm ET

Biden who?

The Democrats got it backwards as usual.

Thank you for finally letting us see another face in the campaign. The hype surrounding the Republican vp candidate has gone way to far. Let's get back to the issues. The news media needs to stick to reporting the news, not creating drama. Let us see some of the campaign rallys around the nation. The candidates are on the trail aren't they?

Quan'L   September 14th, 2008 5:26 pm ET

Biden is obviously the man that could step up and shape so much of Obama's policies as President. I like him. He's someone who I could eat a hamburger with in my backyard and never feel he would not tell me if it wasn't prepared to his taste. He's honest, straightforward and flawed. I think he is also the best candidate in the bunch. Biden is great. Glad to see he's getting so much attention. A good man in politics is very hard to find.

Tom   September 14th, 2008 5:26 pm ET

Joe's the best of them all! Such a powerful VP pick. Palin pales in comparison .... actually, far more capable republican women like Kay Hutchison, Olympia Snow, Condi Rice would have been much better and far more qualified choice. Biden is a great guy and possibly the most qualified person to be in the White House.

barnabas   September 14th, 2008 5:27 pm ET

He's earned and deserves his nickname: Senator blowhard. Can't wait for American to see Biden and Palin side by side in the debate.

Paul   September 14th, 2008 5:28 pm ET

I wonder if Greg even knows what bias is? Somehow I doubt it. I don't have much doubt that CNN has some bias, but at least they are professional enough to attempt to be objective. Fox, on the other hand, is blatantly conservative, pro-republican, and if they had their way we'd all be an American version of the Taliban before you know it.

But, as to Joe Biden, I'm not from Delaware, but from the deep South. I've followed him politically for years and few politicians in this country command more personal respect from me. He ain't perfect, but he's a real American, a real public servant in the best sense, and is so much more qualified to be VP that Sarah Palin is hard to imagine any one missing that who is not an ideologue of the first order.

We got to make some changes in this country and Obama-Biden is the best shot we've got. McCain and Palin will take this country deeper into places we can't afford to go if we really cherish the freedom that sets us free.

Jennifer Paddon   September 14th, 2008 5:29 pm ET

I thought this was one of the most unbiased, and fair, documentaries I have seen of the current candidates. I thought it portrayed Biden honestly and accurately. It did not sugarcoat any past controversies, and at the same time, it did not try and exaggerate or exploit them. I would have liked to have seen some more credit for his experience in foreign policy since that is a key issue in this election, and certainly, an excellent reason for him to be picked as VP. I think he will be an excellent advisor to Obama, if elected president, and a VP who will make the most of his position, which is a complete contradiction to McCain's pick for VP. While Palin may be appealing to some voters, she simply does not possess the qualities for such a high position. While she tries to portray a strength of character, it does not exist. Biden fights for what he believes in, and is consistently outspoken about what he opposes, and I think that was accurately shown in this documentary. Probably the most endearing aspect about Biden, as a politician, is that he admits his mistakes and takes responsibility for them. Palin, however, chooses to ignore her past contradictions in her supposed convictions. I liked that Biden was not compared too much to Palin in this respect, but rather, it was left to individuals who watched both documentaries to make up their mind.

Trip   September 14th, 2008 5:29 pm ET

I'd like to hear more about the plagerism incidents including hi-jacking parts of a british politician's life story. That is a pretty serious lapse in judgement and speaks to his integrity yet I don't hear much about that in the media. Also, did I not hear him say in the primaries that McCain is more qualified than Obama?

ET   September 14th, 2008 5:29 pm ET

What a joke those two make. Obama says he wants change, put new people in and get rid of the old Washington people that has been there to long. Obama must have a brain tumor, if he thinks Biden is fresh meat, well maybe three decades is fresh meat, but I can't figure it out. Biden hasn't accomplished much in 30 years but run his mouth.

zuq   September 14th, 2008 5:30 pm ET

Great. I can't wait to see it. Please visit http://www.BarackForUs.com. It's a great site that I stumbled upon.

Kenb   September 14th, 2008 5:30 pm ET

DC....if you think the choice of Palin was a joke, what the hell do you thing Democrats were thinking when they nominated someone who has no...none....nada.....executive experience whatsoever and has close associates like William Ayers, Jeremiah Wright, etc.? Talk about insulting our intelligence.

RR FLORIDA   September 14th, 2008 5:31 pm ET

Obama cast Biden as his VP because he did not have to worry about anyone taking the limelight from him. The Democrates are running scared! And for good reason. Nobama is a joke.

Thank You God for McCain/Palin '08

Ang   September 14th, 2008 5:37 pm ET

I can not trust a woman who place her unborn child life at risk. She went into labor one month early. Flew 8 hours so her child can be born in Alaska. Is that sound judgement?
Have her tell the real reason why her son joined the military. Not by his choice but to prevent jail time. Her family is totally out of hand. who's tending the children, Its obvious not First Dude.

Tom, Ft Campbell   September 14th, 2008 5:39 pm ET

I wondering why someone has not done something on Obama? We know a lot more about Biden than him. Besides Rev "I'm a racist" Wright and no on cares that Obama and him were freinds. I wonder if David Duke and McCain had a rlationship if people would have complained? Wake up America to Communism! Communism equals the Democratic Liberal Party! To Left is JUST TO DAMN Left. The left hates America! Just ask them!

I.A.T smith   September 14th, 2008 5:39 pm ET

I think Joe Biden is the right man for the VP's job. He is the longest serving person in congress. He is the best ever in comparing to Palin.
Palin is and will be the worst in American history.

Ed PA   September 14th, 2008 5:42 pm ET

Biden is a major problem in that he does not represent a person who can attact anyone outside of his political group. Just go back and watch how he has run his committee. He comes across as a closed mind who will cause the country to continue to be very divided. He does not come across as anyone who likes his fellow citizens as did President Reagan and President Clinton.

Dawna Robertson   September 14th, 2008 5:44 pm ET

Sen. Biden is by far the better VP-choice. If Palin had sense, she would know she is way over her head. If McCain had judgment spanning beyond his personal career aspirations, he would have chosen a VP running mate who would be good for the Nation. Biden will be good for the Nation–and his selection is a hallmark of sound judgment on the part of Obama.

mo   September 14th, 2008 5:44 pm ET

I am a muslim who believe in peace on earth for all humanity. I have a deep feeling that Obama will unite the world and we are going to have a peacefull life when he is in office. Attitude will only creat more hate. It is for the first time the whole world is waiting for a change in the white house, so all human can live in peace. It has been a long eight years.

Judy   September 14th, 2008 5:48 pm ET

This is not a comment about Biden vs Palin. It's strictly about Joe Biden. I don't think the man knows how to speak with "normal" volume. He is so "on". I can't see him representing out country as v.p. and always "shouting". Joe, take a tranquilizer.

Dee - Rochester, NY   September 14th, 2008 5:48 pm ET

Biden is a solid cast for the new Obama administration. I am glad Obama chose him. He may be loquacious, but what he has to say is important about foreign relations. His interview on Meet the Press last week helped me undersatnd clearly (and with soundbites) the reason the surge won't work for long.

Americans don't all talk and think in sound bites. and we don't need to hear silly talk when our economy, healthcare and national security are at stake. If that is what you are looking for then go to the other side. Over there you will hear the Soundbite Du Jour.

No way, no how no McCain. Enough is enough.

Obama-Biden 2008

Joe Biden rocks....McCain hides under Palin's skirt

Sharon   September 14th, 2008 5:51 pm ET

Wow! Why is trooper-gate even an item when you have the VP candidate in bed with all of the credit card companies? I also read that his son, Hunter, resigned his lobbyist job in 08/08. He was conspicuously absent in this segment and when Biden was asked about him you could have fried an egg on his bald spot. The bankruptcy bill that Biden pushed was LOBBYIST driven, people. It's on the record – read all about it!

Ben G.   September 14th, 2008 5:54 pm ET

I don't see the big issue with this, considering Obama has increased federal spending by one billions dollars on earmarks, and Sarah Palin has decreased the states spending by 40% for earmark spending. It seems to me that people want to discredit her, when in fact you have to fight legislative branches to bring reform, and that is not an easy thing to do. In fact she has reduce the spending of her state by half a billion dollars. Just think what she could do on a large scale. I must also mention, she did not cut any earmarks for the poor, and also proved her intelligence, by appling the money to more practical projects that would help improve infrastructure, and the economy in Alaska. That is also what the study on the crabs and seals is about.. The fishing industry.. It seems to me that is the kind of grit that this country needs. Reduced spending, lowering earmarks in a practical way..(it isn't like waving a majic wand) and applying money to infrastructure, that many democrats have been complaining about any way. She is brilliant, and none of this is going to stick. I can't believe that Obama is even going there with earmarks. As for the perdiem(which I even took in the military)... Well she saved the state a ton of money by driving, and getting rid of the jet. So...When you are pregnant, and drive 600 miles home, and reduced spending, improved infrastructure, reduced earmarks, and got rid of the corrupt oil ties to the government, and gave every one a piece of the pie that ted Stevens stole, than I can see why people are scared of her...She will truly shake up Washington..
We love you Sarah...Go Girl

Jim Spencer   September 14th, 2008 5:55 pm ET

Joe Biden is a safe choice for V.P. But my problem is with Mr. Obama. How did he put himself through school? Where did he live? What did he do to support himself? How did he transfer to Columbia? Who helped him? Who paid his way? I have not voted to put a President in office for a long time, I have voted to keep people from President. As things stand now I rate McCain -9 and Obama a -10. Because I don't trust who he really is!

Gregg   September 14th, 2008 5:59 pm ET

To RR in Florida, LOLOL, it is so obvious that you McCainbot's are the ones running scared, not only did Palin NOT KNOW Bush'es doctrine, ( giggle ) but all of there speech'es are the same over and over, word for word, now that McCain has unleashed his Pit Bull, the true color's are coming out, lie after lie, after lie, you Repub's will do anything to win the Whitehouse, Carl Rove even agree's with the Dem's now, LOLOL,,,,,the numbers will begin to change fast against the Repub's, more of the same? i think not, 8 + 4 = 12, America will never let that happen, so,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,May as well get used to hearing President Obama now. Obama // Biden 08

Sharon   September 14th, 2008 5:59 pm ET

Oh, yeah!! He plagerized in COLLEGE and when he was running for PRESIDENT!! Actually he is a perfect running mate for Obama because he lies, too. Does anyone remember his stand on campaign funds? Why are people sticking their heads in the "sand"?

My favorite saying from Obama is, "They are going to say my name is funny. They are going to try to scare you about me." The only one scaring me is you with your name that you obviously find odd in some way because you keep talkin' about it!

David Karrfalt   September 14th, 2008 6:01 pm ET

After watching both specials with serious interest, I have to say that CNN’s two specials on Biden and Palin Revealed did not deliver very much of what they had promised. CNN seems to be more concerned with their own ratings than with their effectively informing the voters. While it may be true that one can approximate objectivity by slanting both ways at once (which is what I think CNN did in this case), it would much more have helped the voters if a great NEWS channel like CNN would at least have tried to report AS MANY FACTS AS POSSIBLE and let the voters handle the processing and slanting.

Big G   September 14th, 2008 6:03 pm ET

The reason nothing's been said about Biden before now is because his screwups and mistakes woudl hurt the dem. party ticket. If you can do an unbiased documentary on him then I look forward to learning more about him. But if you're going to praise him the way most of the other media has been kissing Obama's ass and ruthlessly attacking McCain and Paulin, then don't waste your time putthing anything together. One of the most amazing aspects of this campaign season so far has been the biased coverage provided by the majority of the media.

And on a side note, the difference between the lack of experience between Obama and Paulin is simple. Even though she's had just a short time in office she's accomplished a lot. And barrack hasn't done a damn thing with his time in office. I challenge all you faithful dem.'s out there to please explain to me what the hell he's accomplished while in office. What's one major thing he's done? Get back to me in a few days when you give up.

Geoffrey   September 14th, 2008 6:06 pm ET

Thank God! It's time for a documentary about the only competent VP candidate. This guy without a doubt is ready on day one to run the country as experienced as anyone else in the race. Worldly, intelligent and experienced. It will be great to see the media start getting off the Palin hype. Yes, we've met her and she's obviously in way over her head. A documentary about a hard working kid from the neighborhood who still isn't rich after putting in a lifetime of public service will be nice to see.

Judy   September 14th, 2008 6:06 pm ET

In reaction to the comment by CRoss.....I, too, do believe in speaking in tongues as a gift from the Holy Spirit. I do not, however, believe in Sarah Palin.

Tim C   September 14th, 2008 6:06 pm ET

Terrific presentation of Senator Biden. I liked him before, but I realized what a downright lovable guy he is, and it's clear why Barack picked him over Hillary. Once people start seeing more of him, and understanding what he is all about, they'll realize that the celebrity the media has insisted on making of Sarah Palin is quite superficial and overblown.

Thanks for the great work

Adam Morgan   September 14th, 2008 6:08 pm ET

I watched both (Palin/Biden) revealed and I been watching Biden since he got elected first as a sen.
2 things:
1- you got the better end of the deal
2- Palin's story and life in general is boring and even if she was the last woman on earth and I had to vote for a woman, I won't vote for her.

I really think its about time for America to vote for a woman as a president, but not this woman.

Sandy   September 14th, 2008 6:14 pm ET

Your piece was excellent ! Joe Biden has long earned my great respect for his depth of knowledge and insight in to complex international and judicial issues. He is straightforward, answers questions without spin, respectful and witty. He is a fine human being. You captured him well in a brief window of time.
We as a country will be led by an exceptional team when Obama/Biden win in November.

Eric S.   September 14th, 2008 6:17 pm ET

I am a Republican who grew up in Delaware and lived there for 22 years through my time at the University of Delaware. I have to admit that Obama grabbed my attention this year, enough to consider voting for him based on his ability to get the average person to get involved in not only politics, but the community. Obama made the best decision possible by putting Biden on the ticket. As a student at the UofD, I had the great pleasure to watch Biden give a few speeches during my tenure, but there was no better speech then the one he gave days after 9/11. He was able to take an incredible confusing time for all of us in the country and make us feel like one again. His incredible foreign relationships and experience are the most incredible on a ballot this Fall. There was still part of me that thought I may vote Republican this November, but when McCain picked Palin all I could do was laugh, shake my head, and realize that the Obama / Biden ticket is the most experienced, inspiring, and motivational tandem we have seen in a very long time. Bush / Cheney vs. Kerry / Edwards will all look like a bad dream to us when this is all over. Let's all thank Obama and Biden for truly bringing back what is important in this country....You and Me.

Fed up Republican   September 14th, 2008 6:20 pm ET

Jopmur that is because some people follow whats going on an can pick up an artical and read. Try it you may just learn who people are.. you idiot.

Biden is a stand up man. Fully capable of stepping in if nessessary. Barack did knock it out of the park with his selection. Change and Experience is the perfect combo.

Dont let the polls fool you they only tabulate the people who voted in the last two elections and dont use the cell. All the new registered voters are organized and ready. Lets take it to the W.H. for America and be that shining house on the hill once more!

Gewan   September 14th, 2008 6:20 pm ET

Great pick Obama!!! Where was McCain lapel during the RNC convention? He talks about being a patriot, how patriot he was by not wearing the USA lapel.

maax   September 14th, 2008 6:20 pm ET

Biden is the most experienced person on the ticket. He's brilliant, but he's not as exciting as some of the other candidates, so he didn't get much support as a presidential candidate. He's also, IMHO, the most down to earth person on the ticket as well.

Palin pales in comparison. Biden is the kind of person you can rely on. Palin is the kind of person you fear because of either incompetence or vindictiveness. Biden understands the way the world works. Palin barely understands the way her state works.

Folks, a BA in Journalism doesn't qualify you for the Vice Presidency. Even when combined with her experience in Alaska government. She simply doesn't understand the world and will screw it up by accident if given the chance.

Obama/Biden=Brilliant+Brilliant and experienced.McCain/Palin=Not so brilliant+bull in a china shop.

michal   September 14th, 2008 6:28 pm ET

I absolutely agree with the previous two comments. First, you received the better assignment and second, Biden is clearly the better choice as the second in command of this great United States. It's time to focus on policy and not pander to the shrill negative politics that have seemed to permeate the McCain campaign.

Steve   September 14th, 2008 6:33 pm ET

Biden is a politician with no work experience. He has been a politician since he was 29 and that's all he knows. When he first ran for president he quit the race because he was caught plagiarizing. But what I really don’t like about him is that he lied about his grades in law school. He wanted to make himself look better than he really is, just like a typical politician. Yes, he has experience being a member of the good old boys network and yes he’s the chairman of the foreign relations committee…so what. He’s a liar. It makes me wonder what else he lied about that we don’t know. If Obama really wanted change he would not have picked someone from the old guard, and Palin is right, he will regret the day that he didn’t pick Hillary as his running mate, however I understand why he didn’t. She’s a bitch and can’t be trusted. Is McCain perfect, NO, but I’ll take him over these two clowns any day.

Bart   September 14th, 2008 6:35 pm ET

Joe is years ahead of Palin in wisdom, foreign policy(which she has none..nada..zip...zero), and experience.
Folks, it's a no-brainer...when things are as bad as they are now, you don't put the same people in charge to continue the fiasco.
It's a shame there are people out there who won't vote for Obama because he's a black man. We live in a hypocritical, ignorant society...as seen through the eyes of the rest of the world.

Tat   September 14th, 2008 6:37 pm ET

I supported Hillary in the Primaries and now I will vote for the Obama/Biden ticket. Obama has the brains and Biden the experience to lead this country forward. It's about time we focus on Biden who is much more capable of supporting what I hope will be President Obama. McCain runs on the premise of being a war hero and that's all he has to offer. Palin is, what can I say..... Being that I've traveled to 16 counties, I have far more foreign affairs experience than she does. McCain graduated almost last in his Annapolis class and Palin received her BS in journalism. Far from what I would say geniuses!

I want my President and Vice President to be smarter than me.
Go Obama/Biden.

Jim Spencer   September 14th, 2008 6:37 pm ET

That's not nice! I know who Mr. McCain is and I'm not happy. I don't know enough about Mr. Obama and I am less happy. How did he support himself through school. Did he work? Who supported him?

Shana Bernabela   September 14th, 2008 6:40 pm ET

I thought the Biden's documentary was compelling and inspiring. He has experienced so much tragedy, but still rose above it all. He is resilient, prudent, and charismatic and all of the reason why he was chosen to be VP. Barack picked a great candidate that compliments his agenda and vision for this country. On the contrary, Sara Palin who? I just don't think she cuts it by any means. Her pick was clearly strategic in trying to win over the disgruntled women Hillary Clinton voters. I mean come on had Obama picked Hillary I most certain McCain would not have picked Palin.

Have you forgotten that McCain was involved in the Keating Five Saving & Loan scandle, or have you forgot about his chief Economic Advisor was the author of Deregulation of the banking industry first time since 1933 that a investment company was allowed to raid the Federal Reserve and does that reassure you that your bank account in protected by the FDIC, try to remember the bail out of those S/L and the bail out of Bear Sterns and the Fannie Mac and Feddie Mac, rember the $.38/ share that J.P. Morgan got until everyone howled, or have you heard about the German Co. that Mac went to bat for to be allowed to buy Air Bourne Express that now wants to have UPS take over all its contracts OOPPPS another 10,000 union members workers out of work at DHL , or the exemp carrier status that Fred Smith of FEDX got to stop unionizating of FEDX employees bet you don't know about the exemp carrier status, do you?, or the howl Mac made about the Boeing tanker deal and how he could save the USAF $6 billion dollars just for retrofitting the KC-135s all the while his economic team and lobbist were in the EU lobbing for the AIR BUS TANKER. Lets ask Sarah about that "ROAD TO NO WHERE that starts at the Canadian border that just might lead to that bridge to NO-WHERE to link Ketchikan to the year round tourist trade as now the cruise ship only operate from May until Nov. eqch year Carnival, Celebrity, Norweign you get the picture.

I saw it!! It was great. It reinforced everything I thought about him. A decent, hardworking, family man who has so much foreign policy experience. Just what we need to make the Obama/Biden ticket perfect!! He is everything that Sarah "let's fly the teenage baby-father to the GOP convention and get him on stage to show the conservatives that we are making them keep the baby" Palin is not.

You rock, Joe!!!

I felt the documentaries of the two VP candidates were biases in favor of Palin. This presentation should have been simply to the point, factual as possible, and certainly not playing favorites in any way.
As I watched the piece on Biden I was educated about his favors for the credit card companies with the [I felt] brutally unfair bankruptcy laws that went into effect. But hey, all elected officials show favor to the big money contributors from their individual states. Delaware is the credit card capital, just as Iowa is the insurance capital. Why do you think Grassley will never buck the interests of big insurance companies that keep us in a strangle hold with health care coverage? The same is true of Texas representatives protecting Big Oil. One doesn't bite the hands of those feeding their campaigns.
At least Biden possesses experience in domestic and foreign affairs, more than Palin will ever know, despite all of the tutorials McCain's camp can feed her. She is no more ready to be president than I am. People need to look closer at these VP candidates so much closer than in the past because the chances of them needing to take over during the term is so very real. Face it, McCain is in poor health and his longevity cannot be compared to his mother's. (apples & oranges) And sadly this nation is still full of enough bigots that Obama's life is at risk just for running. Think of all angles.
I only wish people could decide their vote based on the real and Honest issues, instead of being driven by pure emotion alone.
-a bipartisan centrist.

Shane   September 14th, 2008 6:49 pm ET

I think Senator Biden is an extremely talented, hard-working Senator and his accomplishments are being overshadowed by Sarah Palin's lack of experience. I mean the only reason she's getting so much attention is because of her looks and youth. She has no brains, and it's a VERY SCARY that the media is focusing so much time on someone that should have no business in high office. I mean if that's the case why not make Angelina Jolie Vice President...at least she's been to foreign countries and she probably has the same amount of experience as Sarah Palin.

Detroit, MI   September 14th, 2008 6:54 pm ET

It would be a nice change to hear about Biden. I'm sick of finding out how corrupt of Palin's political past really was. A VP who has lobbyist friends in the oil business....sound familiar? She makes Kwame Kilpatrick look like a saint.

123VA   September 14th, 2008 6:59 pm ET

Come on...Palin is running for VICE President, not PRESIDENT. Can we please stay focused on the issues? I wish everyone would pick a candidate and be happy about YOUR candidate vs. spending so much energy bashing your candidate's competition! Let's see what Biden's all about!

helen   September 14th, 2008 7:04 pm ET

Seems like CNN is more interested in making Palin into a "star" for their ratings and not in reporting the truth. this is not journalism, it is TMZ with a master's degree.

Katie   September 14th, 2008 7:09 pm ET

Just how many times in the last couple of years has Biden had to apologize or retract the meaning of words he's spoken? He's a man who constantly puts his foot in his mouth, doesn't censor his thoughts before they spew out his mouth, and has little consideration for the average American. But, he won't say that to your face!!! Oh, no! Foreign policy experience--Pahleese!!! He's a loose canon if sent overseas and he simply wouldn't have a clue.

All this business about Pahlin's only qualifications being that she didn't have an abortion? Are you people nuts? That's a vicious attack on a person's personal choice. Does that imply all Dem women have had abortions? How much of this insulting do we ALL have to take? Come on people!!! Figure out who is insulting who!!!! This comment was as bad as Imus's and no one on the Dem side is even upset. That shows you how stupid they are!!!

The Dems are up for a huge awakening as to what the American people really want. They are perfect at delivering the rhetoric and promises (through the Dem media) that they think people want to hear. Well, guess what? I don't want higher taxes! That's what we will get if Obama wins the ticket. What's even sadder is that the Dems won't have the sense to blame the right person for higher taxes.

I'm happy to watch the Dems hang themselves on a daily basis. It doesn't get any better than this. What won't be fun is the aftermath where we go back to getting nothing done, blocking this and that, and not serving the people of this country in a way our tax dollars deserve.

Patti Zimmerman   September 14th, 2008 7:12 pm ET

The tragedies and triumphs in Joe Biden's life flesh out the mettle of a great man. I feel very secure having him as co-pilot.

CMK   September 14th, 2008 7:13 pm ET

Biden is a political hack who has seen better days. I'd rather not have a guy a heartbeat away from the presidency who has survived two brain aneurysms, is a known hothead, vain as all hell (hairplugs for crying out loud), and is a verified plagiarist (1988 presidential race).
Go back and get someone who hasn't spent 30+ years milking the American taxpayer. Let's get new blood.

C.Czarnomski   September 14th, 2008 7:14 pm ET

I absolutely agree with DC from NJ! Biden has much experience and he has always spoke and voted with integrity. Obama's VP choice displays Obama's intelligence. McCain's choice shows him to be more out to get Hillary's voters and not out to insure that our nation has a vice-president with understanding of national and international issues. She is an insult to any intelligent Hillary voter.

Melvin   September 14th, 2008 7:15 pm ET

I have never had any use for Biden, however he has agreed to
"one for the gipper" democratic party, so I can say he is a loyal democrat.
For those of you are to dense, he agreed to be VP choice when no one else would do it.

Claude F   September 14th, 2008 7:15 pm ET

Joe Biden is a class act. Too bad he's with Obama and not with McCain. This election would have been over long ago.

Stop   September 14th, 2008 7:15 pm ET

Fellow Republicans, stop the insanity and quit complaining about media bias. You are the spin-meisters in the first place. Look at the contortions Roves goes through to give free advice to Obama, hoping to trick him and the rest of us.

Keith   September 14th, 2008 7:15 pm ET

Everybody talks about McCain/Palin being more of the same! You gotta be kidding me! Obama/Biden is more of the same do nothing politics that has plagued congress for years (exhibit 1: Congress calls the big oil companies to capital hill so they give the American people the illusion that they are trying to do something, only to do nothing.) Obama is relatively new to congress which is even more frightening. During the primaries Biden was very vocal that Obama is not ready to lead and now after being named his running mate, all of a sudden Obama is qualified to lead. Joe was just saying what he needed to get elected. Typical politician, they say whatever it takes to get elected whether it is true or not. I'm sick of the whole political process. Ideas are not judged on merit but on whether you have a "D" or "R" after your name. There are good ideas on both sides of the isle, look at the idea and forget about who gets the credit.

Tin City 1   September 14th, 2008 7:16 pm ET

He recently to 13 minutes 28 secionds to answer 1 question from 1 reporter. He plagerizes his remarks from others and is in general a poor choice. Even he said Hillary would have been a better choice. Can't keep his word. Said he didn't want the VP slot and here he is

canadian POV   September 14th, 2008 7:17 pm ET

I watched both programs last night on Palin and Biden. By far, Biden came off as the more intelligent, more principled, more honest and more human. He cares deeply about his country and most importantly he fought for the Constitution with his work on the judiciary committees. When he talked about his family, I got a tear in my eye – this from a father whereas his opponent happily declared that she never gave her family a second thought when the rings of power were offered to her.

Biden was a good choice and I believe Mrs. Clinton would have picked him too.

CROSS   September 14th, 2008 7:18 pm ET

Judy,

I am honestly sorry to hear you sate that, think about what MO says in his post he utilizes the word Muslim and peace in the same sentence. Followed by world peace I am reading into that as the Antichrist himself Barack Hussein Obama. Obama has a silver tongue and to bring about the end of times generated frm world peace (Judy please don't go there its a trick). MO has very sly words but if you think for a moment, the teaching of the Muslim world to hate Christians in the manor to kill them all. Read Obamas Book that he wrote and how he openly admits that in fact he is a Muslim inside of said book.. I agree Palin has fault but guess what so do I.

DWIGHT MURRAY   September 14th, 2008 7:40 pm ET

Biden is like other Washington career politicians- -they sit around ,collect a paycheck, and get nothing accomplished. It's all talk and no action just like the Democratic Congress we've had for the last 2 years. The action plan was nothing more than idle chatter. Biden has been bought and sold for years just like the rest of them.

Mike Dallas   September 14th, 2008 7:44 pm ET

I do not know much about Biden other than he has done an excellent job of raising his two sons that survived the car accident, Beau and Hunter. The type of father a man makes, speaks volumes.

I am looking forward to the full story tonite!

Brian   September 14th, 2008 7:45 pm ET

I just love how alot of women are bashing McCain for picking a woman to run with him. I remember back when Clinton was elected alot of women voted for him over Dole or Bush because he was better looking! Just like the hypocrit women who fully supported Clinton in the Lewinsky scandal, when they would have roasted a Republican in the same situation.
People need to look who is really about change. McCain chose a true Washington outsider. Obama chose a stale old Washington political crony. Obama couldn't even reach across the aisle in his own party and pick Clinton as running mate, so how do you think he will work with Republicans? The Republicans have moved more towards the center with McCain, yet the Democrats steer even further left in thier thinking!! Obama truely scares me. We would even be better with Gore! I hope (but doubt) CNN will actually ask hard questions and show what a joke Biden is.

Keith   September 14th, 2008 7:48 pm ET

Obama shows that he had to choose the best of the worst. He picks someone who was very vocal against him in the primaries. Obama's judgement leaves a lot to be desired. He goes on vacation to Europe, talks to some heads of state and comes home qualified to lead on foreign policy? Heck that would mean that Michael Jacson is still more qualified than he is. Back to Joey B, no one cares about him because everyone already knows him. Look at the senate for the last 25+ years and you know Joe, never proactive, always reactive!

AML   September 14th, 2008 7:49 pm ET

I agree Joe Biden was a good choice for VP. I believe together Joe and Barack can change America. I am disheartened by what I see the Republicans doing once again, that is, telling half truths about Palin's record. She didn't sell the plane on ebay. She listed it there but it didn't sell. When it did sell it wasn't at a profit but at a loss. She did stop the bridge to no where when it became a political liability for her after giving her work to the citizens of Ketchikan AK to support their bridge. Oh, by the way she didn't give the money back either. As final note, when you are paying more for gas in the next few weeks remember the gas tax increase Governor Palin put on the oil companies doing business in Alaska so the Alaska State economy could make more revenue. We all pay for that everytime we fillup and so the Alaskans aren't inconvenienced she is giving them all $1200 of our tax dollars to offset the higher fuel prices. THis doesn't sound to me to be any different than the last 8 years.

L Moss   September 14th, 2008 7:54 pm ET

It's a serious job Joe's appling for. You can't afford to be wrong very often. Joes been all over the map on Iraq and most times opposite of Obama. I'd like to see him explain who was wrong and right on their Iraq votes and why. Mostly I'd like to know which time he was correct on Obama, when he said Obama was not qualified to be President or a few weeks later when he accepted the number 2 spot and said Obama was the "most" qualified.

American GI   September 14th, 2008 8:01 pm ET

Joe Biden not only agreed with Bush on the war, he pushed for it during Clinton. The following excerpt from 1998 you can read yourself... It is part of the congressional record:
"And you [Scott Ritter] and I both know and all of us here really know, and it's a thing we have to face, that the only way, the only way we're going to get rid of Saddam Hussein is we're going to end up having to start it alone - start it alone - and it's going to require guys like you in uniform to be back on foot in the desert taking this son of a - the - taking Saddam down. (Laughter.) You know it and I know it."

Dave Liles   September 14th, 2008 8:06 pm ET

Good assignment. We've GOT to get it right this time. Who would we want to be one heartbeat from the Presidency, Palin or Biden? The answer should be VERY obvious.

lisafromminnesota   September 14th, 2008 8:17 pm ET

I didn't think CNN was biased & dogged Biden. I came away thinking he's a great choice as a VP.
What I thought was weird was including the fact that Mrs Palin was on a state champion baketball team. Huh? Gee all the more reason to vote for her. Does she actually put that on her resume? I am baffled by the "spin" the repubs are giving us and even more so because they've put this out there as one of her accomplishments. Weird.

Irena   September 14th, 2008 8:25 pm ET

"Beauty Queen" versus "Intelligent, Down-home, Experienced, Guy Next Door That We All Can Relate To And Vice Versa."

We love you, Joe!

Christopher   September 14th, 2008 8:28 pm ET

I love it when I see Republican posts complaining that CNN (or any other news source) is partisan in favor of the Democrats. It's like they want to blame the media for the Republican party's dismal and utter failure. Even more pathetic they can't see for themselves they're backing a failed platform. Run the numbers people. We've never had fiscal stability any time we've had Republicans in charge – the same party that touts its fiscal responsibility. If you're angry about politics these days, don't complain to the media. Change your voter registration card and wake up. Even funnier, the Republicans love to light the Democrats as "softies" and all I see lately are a bunch of Republican complainers acting like scorned five year olds. Grow up – your platform doesn't work.

Bob R   September 14th, 2008 8:30 pm ET

Im sure Joe always has been a good family man but no....wasn't impressed with his background as CNN revealed.....going on, and on and on and on in a Senate speech, and then making use of someone elses speech.....whether he stole it or not not really the issue....just the fact that one can't have enough wit to come up with something himself.and the credit card association scam he was said to be involved in.....no not too impressed and now with his dumb thing wondering if Hillary would have been a better choice.....in the middle of a campaign he publically states this ? How much money has Obama spent trying to show that he's the man for the job ? Perhaps a good family man no doubt but basic wisdom concepts he seems to fall short in.

Ray   September 14th, 2008 8:34 pm ET

I have been a big fan of Joe for a lot of years. Before Barack threw his hat into the ring, Joe was high on my list of favorites for Prez. He is a wonderful, and honest man with a good heart, and yes, a statesman. I was so happy to hear that he was Barack's VP pick. I believe I know his heart and intentions in part because of the many times I have seen him interviewed by Tim Russert on Meet the Press, among so many other sources.

To Hillary supporters: Had she won the nomination I would instantly have jumped to her side, and I'll bet Joe would have been on her short list too. I hope you all jump on Mr. B's wagon as Hillary and Bill have. Donate! (even if it hurts some) It will hurt a lot worse with a McCain administration. I like John. I just don't like the vast majority of his policies.

Life experience, gut instinct and what needs to be read between the lines of both parties, tells me that we need Barack and Joe, and desperately.

And to young voters, please register in time and please Vote!!!!

Denis Logan Sr.   September 14th, 2008 8:46 pm ET

Biden is very experienced, honest and ethical he would make a great President or Vice President. Only America today doesn’t want great leaders. It seems to only want Cowboys, Hotdogs and Bulldogs. We get what we deserve, like the last 8 years. Thankfully I'm 69 years old, and won't have to sit and watch much longer the disgrace that has come upon the "Good ole U.S. of A.".

Jim House   September 14th, 2008 8:51 pm ET

"Oh" if I could only get close to him and feel his empathy, his passion for the rain forest, alternate fuels, global warming, and how he has worked to change Washington in his fifty years in the Senate.
"How deeply we do need term limits!"
Jim

Jaime   September 14th, 2008 8:54 pm ET

The Democrats have chosen wonderful Americans for both Pres and VP. The Republicans have chosen a candidate for President who is out of touch with reality, and a Vice President that would run our country into the ground if McCain and his health go south. It is not even a question who to vote for this year. I am a registered Republican but I am an American first.

PNK   September 14th, 2008 9:00 pm ET

I saw the show on CNN the other night. Very good, sure gives more insights and background than we would generally have on Mr. Biden. I will always remember his ferociousness in the Supreme Court confirmation hearings, Bork and Thomas, that is a strong impression for me of Biden. And some of his debate performances – I wish those had been covered more in the documentary.

The last 10 minutes or so seemed to quickly cover the present day ~ more should have been made of his recent Presidential run, the debates, how he has performed as a VP nominee, and perhaps his relationship with Sen. Obama (which seems to be good). That would have given a more complete and updated view.

Overall I liked the coverage of Senator Biden. Hope he makes VP!

Annie   September 14th, 2008 9:03 pm ET

I loved the Joe Biden story it really shed some light to why I really am going to vote for the Obama/Biden ticket. I feel Obama has really picked the right VP. I really would like to see more coverage of Hilary Clinton out there trying to get the votes for Obama.
Joe Biden has shown America that he is qualified to VP. I just hope America wakes up and realize that Sarah Palin is a ploy to try and get the "dumb" people on their side.

Enough!

John   September 14th, 2008 9:15 pm ET

Yep, Sarah is quite a speech therapist, is she not? but all I have heard her talk about so far is how wonderful her husband is, when asked a direct question about anything, she hums and haws and avoids the question completely. I sincerely have not heard her or McCain say anything intelligent at all, and McCain seems to just be echoing Obama anymore. Wahtever Obama says sounds really good to him, so he just echo's it just as if he just woke up and this idea came to his head. I really think sarah could help McCain lead us right into a full blown depression within six months. That is where we are headed fast and if something doesn't change quickly we WILL be there in another 8 months.

Michelle   September 14th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

Senator Biden has my support for a variety of reasons, but most specifically for his on-going support of people with disabilities. To say that he has done nothing while in Congress is a lie. Both he and his staffers have worked hard on a variety of key issues important to me and I appreciate what he has done. He will have my support through this election.

liesha   September 14th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

McCain's pick of Palin as VP is an insult on the intelligents of the americans people and a true sign that the econony is not on his list of priorties. But what is even more disturbing is the way the country is folking to Palin and the boost she gave to the repubicans in the polls. Dispite what the polls show I believe the Obama -Binen team is clearly a better combination than the McCain -Palin team. I hope the american people do what is best for this country.

Jess   September 14th, 2008 9:20 pm ET

I am shocked by how ignorant the GOP side of this debate is. Seriously, it's like the blind leading the blind.

Sarah Palin is fine for Alaska, but is a disgrace to the VP office.

Biden is a good man, a great American and an excellent Congressman.

There is absolutely no comparison.

Sondra - Austin,TX   September 14th, 2008 9:32 pm ET

Joe Biden is awesome! He makes me proud to be a Democrat and proud to be an American.

Cheryl   September 14th, 2008 9:32 pm ET

I watched the program and was proud of him in so many ways. Yes, he has been in Washington and at times he got caught up but I am thankful that he has grown and now is ready to be taken seriously to help lead this country out of this mess. I can't imagine anyone with any common sense especially the wannabees Republicans falling for yet more lies. The real Republicans are RICH people who never care about negative changes because they are not affected at all. It's only during voting time that the Republicans reach out to the little people who make it happen for them. Look at it, when all hell broke loose who suffered? Not RICH people only those who work and try to keep their heads above water. It's not a problem for them if gas goes up to $20 gallon because most of them don't have to worry about money. Middle class and poor people are not real REPUBLICANS in the real REPUBLICANS eyes you are only pawns that are used to keep them in power so they always are in control. It's not about the issues or what is fair at this point is just to win and at any cost. Remember, how Bush came to power and look at the mess we are in. I for one wouldn't care if Obama was orange. He is the only choice to do what is right and equitable for all. Even if the RICH thinks he is being unfair they know what is right. They don't want anyone to make them get off of this ride. Ms. Palin is not worth discussing because she and her family are just common folk and if it wasn't for her political jobs she would be regular middle class just like the vast majority of Americans. She makes money and lives well but look at her and her family they are just common folk with common folk problems. I don't want her as VP because she doesn't bring anything to the table except herself and that is not enough. At the end of the day what really matters is the American people who work hard in this Country for this Country. If she decides to become pregnant and have a baby at 44yrs. old after already having four kids it's obvious she doesn’t have good judgment. Although, this is her private life it shows what type of decisions she'll try to make for this Country. John McCain is just too old and nothing more needs to be said. I think the cutoff age to run for President should be 65yrs. old just like retirement. Around that age actually 10yrs. earlier things start to fail and the memory is the first to go. I would hate to see McCain fumbling and carrying on like Reagan and the Pope. Let's be real and stop the madness.....

Srikanth   September 14th, 2008 9:32 pm ET

Joe Biden is the best qualified choice. He portrays what is right and what is important for the nation.

Sarah Palin has a disturbed past which only questions her credibility and probably is keeping her in limelight. However It's not important about being in limelight, the real achievement is for qualified candidates who don't really will be in limelight but their actions do the right things and influence the right attitude. That's exactly what Joe Biden stands for.

Excellent choice in picking up Joe Biden.

RK   September 14th, 2008 9:38 pm ET

Senator Biden is certainly the most qualified and best suited for the position of VP. I hope this campaign becomes about the issues rather than Governor Palin's glasses, dress, motherhood, hockey and hunting. With financial institutions, the foundation of this economy, crumbling there is no time to waste on beauty and personality, war and heroes; it is urgent that we talk of poverty and hunger driven by huge job losses; illiteracy driven by cuts in funding for schools thereby weakening the very structure of brain power that this country needs going into the future and a health care system that is becoming increasingly unaffordable to us working men and women. Guys stop the bickering and finger pointing. And to Senator McCain this is not about conducting a smart campaign and winning an election, it is about saving this country from the perils of indebtedness, poverty, unemployment and enmity. It is not a personality contest between and white man and a black man, it is about who can really bring about some real change and that is Barak Obama, but in this day and age to say he is black and there fore one will not vote for him makes for poor judgment and carelessness for the future of this great country.

Happy from Arizona   September 14th, 2008 9:39 pm ET

It was good to see B iden for what he is. I have much confidence he will make an outstanding VP. As or Palin/McCain, this is a disgrace to the American people. I am tired of hearing she sold the plane on E-Bay, that she said No to the Bridge to Nowhere. I never thought Palin/Mcain would lie as they are now doing in their new ads. Obama will not get my vote.

Charlie in Fla   September 14th, 2008 9:40 pm ET

I would very much like to hear about Sen. Biden. Not the rumors, just the historical facts. The same for Gov. Palin. I do not want to hear what the 'parties' want us to hear. I want to hear the truth and be able to make my own decision. I am proudly an Independant. From what I hear being screamed from each party so far, Alan Keyes is looking better and better. I do not want out country led by people that have shown me they know how to fill a bucket with mud and throw it. THAT is what needs to be changed. We need HONESTY from our elected officials. Not when it is convient. We need it ALL the time. I'll look forward to your documentary.

Michael   September 14th, 2008 9:40 pm ET

I truly look forward to what you reveal about Joe Biden, the next VP of the US.

SARAH REVEALED   September 14th, 2008 9:41 pm ET

I am watching the life story of Palin 2 things strike me.

1. Biden participates in his, while Palin refuses to partake in hers.
However, she and republicans are the first to scream "media bias" so why not take the opportunity to get your side out? Makes no sense, unless she is too busy in the "cone of silence" cramming the Cliff Notes version of forgein policy.

2. I thought the human gestation period was 9 months, but little Track was born 8 months after the wedding, which took place without rings. So, it would appear that "abstinence only" fell on the deaf ears of her daughter Bristol, but Sarah does not seemed to have gotten the memo either. Maybe Bristol was only following Mom's example.

marc L   September 14th, 2008 9:57 pm ET

I hope all those people who have it stuck in their liberal minds that the Dems are pure as angels realize that Biden is a politician. All, I mean ALL politicians are in bed with big businesses. In Biden's case, he is known to be very cozy with the credit card companies. You know, those people who are holding most of this nation's money in their pockets. Now, I know how you bleeding hearts think. You will find plenty of off the chart rationals to excuse him. And I am not criticizing him. I happen to admire the guy. I jost hope that all of those people who think that Obama/Biden is without sin and believe everything they say realize that they are playing politics to get your vote. Take it all with a grain of salt. Keep in mind, if McCain realy would be 4 more years of Bush, why was the Republican party not too happy about nominating him? The fact is, he never has been the darling of the GOP.

jdr   September 14th, 2008 10:11 pm ET

Biden is the best canidate by far. he does not come across as a tenage cheerleader and is trying to sell the oil and gas out of alaska for a VP job even if it would not be available for at least 10 years.

she makes no snese at all. just gossipy stuff

crystal Wynn   September 14th, 2008 10:23 pm ET

Thank you for bringing Joe Biden to the American people – he is a great man and worthy of Vice Presidency, as well as Presidency

nolamomma   September 14th, 2008 10:24 pm ET

Can't wait to hear more about Sen. Biden. Don't know much about him, but what I have heard I've liked.

And I'm a pro-life Democrat who wants to know why some other Catholics seem to forget that the Church is also against the death penalty. There is no easy answer on this one, fellow Catholics, whichever way you vote you're making your choices. Just think about that before you start attacking Sen. Biden's faith.

Paula   September 14th, 2008 10:26 pm ET

It is about time that Biden gets more attention in the media!! He is clearly the best choice for VP! Please let us see more information about Biden :-) He is a very interesting, deep, and intelligent person!

Ross from Florida   September 14th, 2008 10:31 pm ET

A great American and an inspiration to us all, Joe Biden. He does have great credentials, particularly in international affairs (I hate the word "foreign").

Please reveal why he became a Democrat and not a Republican.

BeckyWhite   September 14th, 2008 10:37 pm ET

Joe Biden is an incredible American, politician, and man of character. He will assist in leading our country to a new place – a much better place! We need his kind of experience and leadership. He and Barack Obama are a winning ticket!

Jenai   September 14th, 2008 10:40 pm ET

I watched both of the biographies presented this evening and I feel you did an absolute exceptional job in presenting Joe Biden's story.

An independent voter asked me yesterday to talk to them about Joe Biden. I struggled with communicating anything beyond his experience in foreign policy and his role in passing of the Violence Against Women Act.

Your biography gave me deeper understanding and perspective on the candidate.

Thank you for your unbiased reporting.

James from Philly   September 14th, 2008 10:44 pm ET

Sen. Joseph Biden is NOT A YES man. That speaks volumes for Obama's decision process. He will be able to step up if there is any tragedy. He is well versed in security and foreign policy. He is a real family man who when his wife and young daughter were killed and his two sons were injured in a car crash, he was ready to forsake his seat in the senate to be with his sons. The man has GRAVITAS and doesn't pull punches when debating real issues. Yes he has been known to speak off the cuff causing controversy. He reminds me of Harry Truman after he was in the senate. He spoke his mind and let the chips fall where they may. The big boys trembled and fell.

Doris, Memphis,TN   September 14th, 2008 10:52 pm ET

CNN, you are to be congratulated for your outstanding reporting this
weekend. Joe Biden is ,by far, the most qualified VP nominee.
Barack and Joe are definitely the leaders we need in the White House.
They are "Men of Honor." Americans must get this one right, for our
country and for our children.

Yes...let's hear much more about Joe Biden...someone worth our attention!

Lisa Murad   September 14th, 2008 10:57 pm ET

I am a 46 year female college graduate now working in commercial real estate. I follow politics very closely like some follow sports. In my opinion, there is no comparison between Joe Biden and Sarah Palin. The media and the McCain campaign talk about sexism, it seems to me that in some ways Joe is being penalized for being male. And yet the man has so much more innate knowledge of the issues facing this country and a vision of how to resolve these issues in the future administration. I feel sorry for him that he doesn't have a qualified vice-presidential candidate to debate in the weeks ahead. After having seen and read about Sarah Palin, I believe Biden will handily demonstrate to the American people why he and not Sarah Palin is the right Vice Presidential candidate in this election cycle.

Democrats2008   September 14th, 2008 11:00 pm ET

About time!!!! Thank you for reporting on Joe Biden. I'm so glad Obama chose him as his running mate. I can't think of anyone better. I can't wait for the debates. Go OBAMA/BIDEN!! You got my vote and everyone in my family and friends.

Bekki   September 14th, 2008 11:05 pm ET

I'm glad that we are going to have the opportunity to get information about the 'other' Vice Presidential candidate in this election. Unfortunately, McCain's choice of Sarah Palin has turned this election into a sitcom at a soap opera level and distracted us from the true purpose of this election. To elect the most qualified candidate to the job, the media circus surrounding Palin is standing in the way of a true fact gathering that the public should be doing now. Our country needs to be represented by a candidate who can make decisions regarding international affairs that can be the difference between ending a war or beginning a new one. Does Palin have the experience to deal with this? I think Biden does, let's here about his experience. http://lifestouches.blogspot.com

Trish A   September 14th, 2008 11:05 pm ET

Thank you Abbie. I wish I had of checked the site earlier as I've missed the report! Hopefully CNN will find it worthy of a repeat. I don't know Joe Biden except for what has been reported thus far. However, I've always been a good judge of character and I have always felt Joe was a straight shooting, compassionate man who truly feels for the hardships of others. Through his Campaign speech I also found out he was a devoted husband and father and that didn't surprise me. To have all these great qualities along with being a hard working, politician with integrity is no small feat these days. He deserves a great deal of praise. I hope I get so see the Documentary.

tiff of lithia springs   September 14th, 2008 11:09 pm ET

Why wasn't Palin sitting down for an interveiw like Biden. How in the hell is this women going to be a voice for Americans and she's not even allowed to speak to reporters. This is so ridiculous.

P from De   September 14th, 2008 11:10 pm ET

I met Joe Biden last year at a Martin Luther King Jr. Day brunch in Wilmington, DE, attended by minority leaders, community organizers, and employees from local businesses. He gave a moving and inspiring speech and also took the time to stop and talk to the audience one on one. He really emphasized how important it is for all of us to not lose sight of the visions MLK had for America, not just on the day commemorating his birth, but everyday and in our own communities, where we can truly make an impact. Joe Biden is a true leader, a hard worker, and a compassionate individual.

Jim Dee   September 14th, 2008 11:11 pm ET

Joe Biden is a wonderful man who I hoped would be the Democratic presidential nominee. Regardless, If Barack Obama and Joe Biden lose to the McCain ticket, we are all going to be in for four years of misery, even worse than the last eight years.

When are people going to realize that we're in a serious situation in this country, that this ain't fun and games, that McCain is trying desperately to draw attention away from his many weaknesses.

I'm angry that McCain would sacrifice a whole country just to win something he doesn't know how to operate.

Regina   September 14th, 2008 11:13 pm ET

Senator Joe Biden is an excellent choice the best qualified for the Vice Presidency. He portrays what is right and of great importance to Country. He makes me proud to be a Democrat.

Patricia   September 14th, 2008 11:30 pm ET

I feel that Biden has accomplished more than the interview presented. His son went off to war also – not included in interview.

Although I think Biden makes a solid ticket for the Democrats, I would like to somehow have Hillary Clinton be the VP pick to take on Palin in the debates. That is still possible, isn't it? It would be female to female. That would equalize the tickets and the gender issue. Then voters would be definitely voting for Obama and McCain instead of Obama/Palin-McCain.

What ever happened to the Palin Pastor issue? Did Fox News do that good of a job squelching that?

Palin's interview was biased. I couldn't vote for someone who transferred colleges 6 times in 5 years. I want someone who is smarter than I am. And I am surprised people don't see how Palin is being used by McCain to garner votes for anti-abortion (even to the point of using her daughter) and calling herself a "Wal-mart Mom" – that makes her sound like she is running for the PTA.

Angela Tacoma Washington   September 14th, 2008 11:35 pm ET

Hey, DLG.... I guess it means Down low guy? We did our home work ! And about Joe Biden, we read some news papers, you know someone wrote those too... we googled him, like you wanted, some one wrote that too, so watching CNN holding the title of "the most trusted name in news" surely they can interview Joe Biden in a way, that when he actually speaks, we can understand the word coming out of his mouth!

DaveT   September 14th, 2008 11:47 pm ET

Nice that CNN will be doing a piece on Biden. Joe was a good choice.
Would Hillary have been better. Who knows. The Republicans would have chewed her up as well. The spot light has been put on Palin. And it's a good thing. From what we know now, even with her so-called Joe-Lunch Pail, Susie Housecoat appeal, she is just another politician. But one who has a sordid past. Or present. We have to go on her record. She did accept and pushed for pork barrel spending. She lied. She said she reformed government. She fires those who oppose her and hires her unqualified buddies like GW Bush. She openly says GOD tells her what to do. She wants to overturn Roe even in case of incest or rape. She wants to press for Christian prayer in public schools. She banded books as mayor of Wasilla. She didn't know what the Bush Doctrine was. She would go to war with Russia if pressed to do so. She ridiculed Obama's community service saying as a mayor of a tiny town, she had more experience. That was comparing apples to oranges. She ridiculed community service. Period. She pushed for the Bridge to Nowhere. Even though the bridge was cancelled, she kept the money. She pushed for Alaskan secession. She attended a church that expressed anti-semitic views (because Jews didn't believe in Jesus, that Israel deserves what hatred or attacks sent on them). This is worse than Rev. Wright's comments. Her staff is being subpoenaed for "Troopergate". This her record. These are the facts. Not innuendo. If these are the policies that American's are wiling to accept. Then we will return to the administration of GW Bush.
Biden is good Catholic. He is pro-life. He is against abortion. Personally. But he does not let his faith interfere with a woman's choice. He does not push his faith on the American public.
Palin is just the opposite. If you many of you are reviled at the idea of a religious state like Iran or other Muslim countries. Look at Palin's philosophy. When it comes to religion, we cannot be so callow to believe one side is good and the other is evil. But since God speaks to her on daily basis, one wonders why she's a politician and not out feeding and curing the poor masses. I think that Jesus had that in mind for us all. Oh, that's community service. A big joke to Republicans.

DanB   September 14th, 2008 11:48 pm ET

Sooo many thoughts on this topic.

Someone mentions Biden was the catalyst for the down fall of Slobodan Milosevic who was a brutal leader that killed thousands through ethnic cleansing, yet Bush gets zero credit for taking down Sadam who killed several hundred thousand through his ethnic cleansing (Kurds) and millions more in the wars he started during his reign. Additionally freeing millions in Iraq and Afghanistan Bush was the one that had the guts to do what needed to be done unlike the poll watching media loving Clinton. Liberals would have been the first to criticize anyone who took Hitler out in the 1930's!

As far as Biden being the best of the 4 to be president, I think that he certainly is more experienced and a better choice than Obama is. Is Obama the least experienced candidate to ever get the nomination in the history of presidential politics, I think so. The curious thing about this is he is the nominee of the party that screamed the loudest about Bush not having enough experience in 2000 and if they do not like the way Bush has run thing don’t you thinks that the liberals would want someone with more experience than Bush had??? No they want one with less! Go figure.

MP   September 15th, 2008 12:10 am ET

I watched with interest, having worked in Delaware a few years ago, and appreciated the details compiled in this documentary. Being an independent, and watching all CNN documentaries with family, a special respect and awareness developed knwing the details of Joe Biden's career. It is amazing to see today's outright lies by some candidates, time and again on camera, with no accountability or shame, and yet just over a decade ago the silly developments such as "plagiarism" charge on Biden's campaign. Perhaps that was an excess then, as the senseless lies are spread today without honor or credibility just to grab power. To relate to McCain's documentary, we were dismayed that the past performance and hero status before returning to US from Hanoi has been completely destroyed with the most recent behavior in last few weeks. McCain just does not seem relevant to issues and challenges most Americans face. Perhaps he and his campaign have cashed those stories too frequently for too many selfish reasons. We did not find those heroic outcomes relevant for this election at all.

Where as, Biden as a VP, presents a much stronger teamwork possibility as Obama would lead through the tougher times for this nation. We will continue to watch closely, especially when the nation stays divided, expresses not so subtle hatred and fear – without regard to truth and reality America faces. Thank you for the hard work you did by bringing various facets of Biden's life and service.

springer   September 15th, 2008 12:21 am ET

Thanks for doing this....it made me cringe yesterday to see your headline "Biden:From Hot To Not"....I can't turn on or read the news without seeing Palin's face...there really needs to be someone keeping a stopwatch on the coverage...Biden has gotten the short-shrift.
I originally wasn't sure Biden was a good pick but I can see he's complimentary to Obama....please keep up the reporting.

Mark   September 15th, 2008 12:33 am ET

All I have to say is keep the gaffes coming old Joe. Biden basically told the world that Obama’s first real decision ever, selecting old Joe for the VP spot, was a huge mistake! Way to go! I can’t wait to see how many more time’s old Joe has stick his foot in his mouth. You could make an entire documentary on old Joe’s gaffes. Now that’s something I would watch.

Bill Hawkins   September 15th, 2008 12:37 am ET

This is a comment on the presentation, not the people.

I lived in Delaware at the time Nelia Biden was killed, about 2 miles from the intersection.

I think that showing the present state of the intersection with it's light and turning lanes does Nelia a disservice. At the time, it was the intersection of two 2 lane roads, down in a valley. The main road ran down into the valley and up again. Large mushroom trucks used the main road, always in a hurry. Nelia had a stop sign, and poor visibility to the left. Something must have distracted her for her to proceed into that intersection. She was killed by a truck coming down the hill from the left. She was not killed by running a light at a broad intersection.

Yours for clarity in a sound-bite world, and thanks for the good work you did,

Bill Hawkins

Palin scares me to death. Just think...if McCain kicked-off (and he could at any time–he's had four rounds with cancer), Palin's finger would be on the "nuc" button. What a frightening thing that would be!

Not only is Biden the better VP choice, Obama is the better Presidential choice. Obama wants to help people! After the past eight years, wouldn't that be a novel approach to governing! Additionally, Obama doesn't lie. This time Rove has it right (no matter what his motives may be). McCain HAS gone too far! Red herrings must not–not this time–divert attention from the fact that he (McCain) doesn't want to discuss the issues that matter in America.

Obama/Biden 2008

Deana   September 15th, 2008 12:46 am ET

I enjoyed learning about both candidates and was so glad to see Biden given equal time with Palin. The media coverage of the VP candidates has been so one sided! Unfortunately, I did feel as if Biden's was presented in a more negative way. Even so, his integrity, character, experience, love of family and love of country were quite apparent. I came away from the program thinking he is a good man who would make an excellent VP or even president. Palin's nomination was just McCain grasping at straws!

Bill   September 15th, 2008 12:51 am ET

I am a Canadian who is folowing the U.S. elections. Joe Biden is a great choice for Vice President and also would be a great choice for president. Barack Obama made the right pick. Joe will be a much stronger and more experienced VP than Sarah Palen.

I also find it interesting that most countries would elect Obama/ Biden over McCain/Palen.

Carolyn   September 15th, 2008 12:54 am ET

I think it is about time we hear about Biden . I don't understabd why CNN is doing so much covage of palin on primtime and Biden is done late night when everyone is asleep. It looks like CNN is trying to puch Palin and Mccain.

Tina - SF   September 15th, 2008 1:23 am ET

Joe Biden is a wholesome pick. I must admit not very exciting. He was picked to be a good advisor on foreign policy and appeal to white, catholic voters. Other people could have filled this spot successfully.

Anyway I still say Obama-Biden 08.

That is the only sane way to go. Any other outcome and ... we are doomed!

Kat   September 15th, 2008 2:33 am ET

The draft will be re-instituted if McCain-Palin take over the White House. We do not have enough troops to handle the necessary and un-necessary wars we are in now, and Palin made it very clear in her interview that a war with Russia is on her agenda. Very scary to have someone who does not know foreign policy decide that your child is going to go fight another war and possibly die.

lisa   September 15th, 2008 3:16 am ET

I finally got to watch the documentaries on the VP's.

I'd heard all I needed to know about Sen. Biden, as I supported his presidential bid early in the primaries, and was ready to support him all the way. Unfortunately, he ended his bid and so I supported Hillary Clinton.

It was nice to see Sen Biden's personal life featured but he's also done so much more in his senate career than was portrayed. I found it interesting that of all his senate accomplishments, the documentary chose to highlight his part in the Clarence Thomas hearings? Especially since now he is sharing the ticket with Sen. Obama? What was the message there?

I feel the Democratic ticket is stronger than the Republican ticket. I am a woman, and McCain's choice of Palin makes no difference to me.

I find it odd theres the impression that she would win over Hillary supporters or undecided females?

How many working moms relate to Palin? She's a mother who grew up in the wild frontier of Alaska, hunting moose, firing weapons, and living a rural lifestyle. What soccer moms living in Big City USA would relate to her - except mothers who are pro-lifers. Is that enough?
I think not. I think she was only chosen to appeal to ambivalent Republican voters.

I am definitely voting issues (economy, foreign relations; regardless of the candidate's gender or race. The stakes are too high to be voting anything else.

mike   September 15th, 2008 5:01 am ET

Joe Biden. GREAT Catholic. Was in the same class as Ted Kennedy. Taught by Prof Pelosi who has studied the faith in great depth. Too bad they didn't search the Catholic Catechism in their quest for the teachings of the Church.
Probably tune into "The View" and get their information from the experts on that show. What better source to get information from than a bunch of anti Catholics and former catholics who are still grinding their axes.

mhayes-ak   September 15th, 2008 5:30 am ET

The repubs can talk and talk – lie and excuse, but you cannot deny where we are today. Look around people and tell me if you want MORE of this! Can we afford it? Can we afford even the chance that Mccain and P will do the right thing? Ha the proof is in front of you. SORRY republican but you just dont deserve it this time. You will have to earn it back. You squandered and disrespect the country, the constitution and our people. Now go home and pray we can work our way out of this mess in the next 10 yrs.

You can say anything you like about Obama Biden BUT they will be better than what BUSH left us any day of the week. Admit it Obama Biden IS the ONLY choice for this country at this time. Let Mccain try again in 8 yrs. Good night and Good Luck!

Delaware native   September 15th, 2008 6:13 am ET

I've lived here all my life and voted for candidates on both sides of the aisle but I have NEVER voted for Biden. I heard him speak when he first ran for office and it was very clear then and even more so now, That when you clear the smokescreen away from his rhetorical BS it is quite obvious that Joe biden is only interested in himself and his legacy.

anconcernamerican   September 15th, 2008 6:33 am ET

For those who said that Palin had executive experiences, you are either in denial or clueless. When she was a governor, her husband is helping her. He was involved in most of her meetings and helped her with veto and other decisions. She was never there to do her duties – she was late to her appointment meetings, hired her friends etc..
She is a power hunger.
Speaking of experiences Reagan didn't have experiences and he was a great president.
I am a pro-life but I am not going to use God name for any gain. I am working as volunteer to help the community.
If we want to help decrease abortion, we should help the community and young pregnant women with special program. God wants to help each and individual and not by forcing people to do what they don't want to.
We are in the wrong track and we let the politicians God name for their benefits.

Frank Pignone   September 15th, 2008 7:30 am ET

If Joe Biden's the next President due to Obama's heartbeat... stopping.. Will Joe have to order a good book to plagierize his first remarks ? What's he done that now.. twice ?...At least if Palin did not use the money for the bridge.. you know where here 'heart' is....The people of Alaska 'got' the money from the oil cronies...and the money from the 'bridge' to nowhere..... the money for that bridge went to bridge 'poverty' in Alaska directly to the people...
Biden's had two Brain Aneurysms... Which is worst.. Skin cancer, or a Brain Aneurysm??? Maybe the 'Best political team on Television can answer that one...when they get back from the Kremlin.

Marie from Munster   September 15th, 2008 7:47 am ET

My husband and I have watched this entire election very closely and are neither Dem nor Repub–we are Americans. Obama and Biden are clearly our choice. I can't believe an educated person would pick a candidate mainly because they like her "spirit", paying no attention to her lack of formal education in government. Do the American people really want the possiblity of having the Commander in Chief of the US having a degree in journalism as opposed to at least possessing a degree in LAW? Also, I graduated from a high school that had more students than the pop of Wassilla. Wake up, America–at least chose a candidate who has an EDUCATION! Also, a person does not have good character who distorts the truth and will say ANYTHING to get elected! A good spirit is just not enough! McCain apparently forgot what his mother should have taught him–don't put another person down so that you can look better. Surely people can see through this. And the ISSUES–I could go on and on-

Robin   September 15th, 2008 8:03 am ET

I guess one way to make it to the White House – since the voters have consistently refused to vote for you during primaries – is to grab hold of rock star Obama's tails.

Biden does add at least a little credibility to the ticket in the experience area since the rock star has none. But, even at that, Biden’s record is absolutely abysmal.

Marie from Munster   September 15th, 2008 8:14 am ET

What about this plagarism thing?? Sarah Palin's speech at he convention was written before she was even selected. Do you hear the candidates pay respects after each speech to the speechwriter who wrote it?

Karen - Missouri   September 15th, 2008 9:45 am ET

I'd love to see CNN cover more of Biden's "town halls" or speeches. He never gets enough coverage...the media is so "suck up" to Palin. Ok, her story's over...not much to tell about her at all...no real accomplishments...not everyone in alaska likes her anyway.

Let's have more coverage of Biden! Biden's such a down-to-earth, guy next door likable politician with tons of experience. I want to see more of his speeches on CNN.

Beth   September 15th, 2008 9:57 am ET

I watched the program and thought you did a wonderful job. Joe Biden is a wonderful family man and a wonderful asset to the US Senate. He will make a wonderful VP. You really did get the better of the two to report on. When I watched Palin's, I thought it was like watching her High School accomplishments, whereas with Biden's, It was mostly about his long political career. It's very interesting to see some of the comments below. I just feel as if some of these people didn't even take the time to watch any of the documentaries. With some of their comments, they are so one sided and won't step out of the box to really see what kind of change could really take place for this nation. Again, Very good Job on the documentaries.

Frank Pignone   September 15th, 2008 10:51 am ET

Questions for the Presidential Debate: 'Do either of you men know what magazine David Axelrod's mother wrote for in the late 40's. Was it a Communist owned one, or a Democratic one ? 2.- Do either of you men know a Man named Frank Davis who lives in Hawaii and who he 'mentored' in Communist beliefs in Poetry ?.... 3.- Do either of you know what company in Australia was to receive 12 million dollars in duty free tariffs for their toxic chemical shipments if Obama's bills passed ? 4.- Have either of you used the 'Present' vote anytime during your political terms, and if so, how many ? 5.- Can each of you write down on the paper in front of you the size of a Company, Brigade, Batallion, and Division of personnel ? 6.- Do either of you support abortion up to the ninth month of pregnancy? 7.- If a breathing, feeding, crying baby, only covered by a mother's stomach or uterine tissue is decided to be a 'problem' in the future life of a mother or family, do you think it should receive a death sentence ?
8.- Have either of you been present at or assisted in an abortion of a pregnancy past the sixth month?

mhayes-ak   September 15th, 2008 9:45 pm ET

Repubs just don't get it – you had your chance and you squandered it – you don't deserve it PERIOD. It would be like rewarding criminals for bad behavior.

What about the Constitution? Remember when? Remember when there were real communists and we, for some reason didn't have to touch our privacy, our rights, our children's rights. What about the FDA ? did you deregulate that too? good idea! How about all the people who died by some kind of food poisoning the last couple of years? by thinning out government like the FDA somebody is responsible for killing a lot of people. so on and so on and so on – you guys just don't deserve it this time – sorry-
admit it – Mr Biden gives a damm for the US people – obama gives a damm for the US people and tried to make this country better – at least they have some respect for this country and its people. you repubs just don't deserve it.

Steve   September 16th, 2008 2:18 am ET

Yeah – you really missed out on not getting to cover Palin. Based on everything I've read, here's what "makes her tick": she believes in creationism, thinks the Earth was created in 6 days, thinks Dinosaurs walked the Earth with man simultaneously, and thinks we are on a mission from God in Iraq, asked her constituents to "pray" for a gas pipeline (holy scary), and doesn't think man has anything to do with global warming. If there were a God, there is no way that he/she/it would let this lady gets to the white house. There is no place for someone who takes the bible literally and pretends that it is science to be running the most powerful country in the world.

Biden is a stud - just watch his interview on Meet the Press last week. Knowledgeable, nuanced, very sharp. Neither McCain nor Palin can hold a candle to him.

Jim from Fishers, Indiana   September 17th, 2008 3:15 am ET

How can any Catholic vote against their Chuch's strictly held viewpoint on abortion by voting for Obama or Biden? Biden calls himself a Catholic and receives communion even though he is for the murdering of innocent babies. ....All you need to do is talk to the numerous folks living and breathing today because their parents decided against abortion and for adoption. This shouldn't even be a partisian viewpoint. It's kind of strange how Dems are not for Capital Punishment yet for the killing of innocent babies....Sound a little inconsistent? The choice is simple....Save the Babies...Vote Republican....

Katy   September 21st, 2008 1:32 pm ET

I would have voted for Biden for president. He was my first choice...the only one that, during the presidential debates had clear and direct answers, as well as, solutions for the problems that face this country. I think Obama was wise to choose him. What a great team!

joe   September 21st, 2008 4:34 pm ET

IF SARAH PALIN CANT KEEP HER EMAILS SAFE HOW CAN SHE KEEP THIS COUNTRY SAFE? U TELL ME.

Ex-Democrats now for McCain!!   September 26th, 2008 6:00 pm ET

Shame on Obama!! Hillary should be on the ticket!!

Were voting for McCain and Palin 2008!!!!!

Drea   October 3rd, 2008 1:32 am ET

I only give Sarah credit for the energy topic that is it. I don't care for her and will not be voting for her. She is not a real and coming from the heart. I trust my instincts about people. My instincts are that she will be Mccain's puppet on a string if they win. I am for a change and MCCain/Palin is not it.

Joyce   October 3rd, 2008 12:59 pm ET

I would without hesitating place Gov. Palin in charge of any national PTA organization to coordinate events. Her cutesy smile, folksey way, winks as though she is saying "wasn't that a smart statement?" gives her all the credibility needed for that position on a national stage. She is not Presidential, Joe Biden is.

Now is the time   October 3rd, 2008 2:22 pm ET

Sen. Biden is a man of integrity....I have alot of respect for him even more so after the debate with Sarah Palin.....All of America will come to light and see how great this man is ......there is no other candidate more qualified and fit to be the Vice President of the United States other than Sen. Biden....... any one who thinks Palin is more fit that Sen. Biden is blinded and fooled.......

Sen. Biden...I look forward to hearing more from you and your views......you service has done well and will continue to do well for all of America.........

Now is the time .......Obama/Biden '08

lynn   October 5th, 2008 10:34 am ET

Wait a minute!

Is there a problem being in a different religions group? Is the election about vote for a Christian or non-Christian? Why some people put a religions doubt on candidates? If someone thinks US only allows Christians, I don’t see it from constitution.

Please do not mark self as a patriot when you do not support CONSITITUTION!!!

I do not care who is “deeply being” what! I only care about whom most respect human beings AS GOD’S WISH!!!

Abortion is not right. But should NOT writes it into the law. Like hunting, many religions believe it is killing life – SIN too. But no one in the history ever put it into a law. If you really trust God, just behave yourself.

Davonne   October 11th, 2008 1:22 am ET

Joe Biden's totally qualified to be vice-president. And I trust his judgment. We know about Sen. Biden. But the more I know about Gov. Palin, the less I tend to like.

T. Clark   October 17th, 2008 12:59 pm ET

There aren't 25 words that can desribe Sarah Palin's entry into the national political scene, the whys, the what ifs, the right stuff. However, one perspective she brings to all of us is: "Who are those other guys". Three career politicans though at least McCain had another significant life. Obama, though escaping through his charisma and pure intellect, is just another taking the Biden track. Biden, to his credit, got on the train early, as early as he could. Why, after 35 years of running nothing more complicated than his own office(s) are folks so impressed that he can name the leaders of most of the relevant countries in the world. It's like 35 years of university without taking the courses for credit but simply auditing them. I submit that theres a large double digit proportion of Americans that could be equally as adept at whatever Joe does as he is and that certainly includes Sarah Palin who's got to be the poster girl for multi-tasking.
It's to our shame that we don't see this and neither do we focus on the fact that GW may have only a 25% approval rating (HST's was lower shortly before he left office and he was the SP of his day) and 'overlook' the startling fact that Congress, as a whole, including the three white guys on the ticket favorability rating is single digits. (Are they dragging down GW or is GW lifting their ratings?

Jimmy   October 19th, 2008 12:22 am ET

I just saw the documentary today ... it was very nicely done.
(she has obviously done a great job in the past, too)
I have to admit, I was quite ignorant of all the presidential candidates except for Obama and Clinton. I wonder how my opinions of other politicians would have changed if similar documentaries were done for them (or if I had watched them).
I have a lot of respect for Ms. Boudreau. CNN is quite lucky to have her on board. I'm looking forward to more special investigations by her. I wish she and Ms. Brown would go after more people who needs to be exposed (and not just Palin and Fuld).
This comment was not really meant for the public for discussion, but for Ms. Boudreau. I just feel the need to make a com(pli)ment when I am impressed ... hoping that it may be of some encouragement.

Joe Biden has been in congress for some time now. He is down to earth and he is very knowledgeable about so many issues and how Congress works. He is not like most Congress people or any of the others running for President (Obama and McCain)or even Palin running for VP. when it comes to assets and huge amounts of money. He is modest in financial worth because he is not interested in that but in American people which I thought was his job anyway in Congress. What a refeshing thought that he would be VP and let Obama know how it all is supposed to work.. Joe Biden is not liberal like Obama and believe me if he sees Obama make a bad judgement he will pull back on the raines to correct it. He isn't said to be out spoken by accident!
