Sports Romance is not high on my list of fav tropes but I do usually prefer Boxing/MMA, with Off Balance being the exception.
This is going to be one of the featured books in the September Sports Romance Box by Beyond The Pages....as this is one of Charli’s fav books so she convinced me to read it and I'm glad I did.
I absolutely loved Valor & Bishop and this book is 100% character driven, it didn't rely on the sports scenes.....

Love & Hockey (Fury Book 1) Kindle Edition
NHL’s golden boy, Bishop Maverick, knows all too well how a haunting past can taint your future. It seems his entire life all people have done is leave. So what does a man do when he has so little? He pours everything into the only thing that he has left. Hockey. This sport has brought him a family, hope, something to work for, but what was the one thing he never expected for it to bring him? A green-eyed, wild child with a soul that brings him back home. Valor Sullivan was raised on the ice by a single father who inspired her love for hockey. With a mouth that would make a sailor blush, and fiery red hair she is a force to be reckoned with on and off the ice. There doesn’t seem to be anything hard work won’t get her. Well, everything but him. Bishop is her Endgame. The only problem? He’s eight years older and one of her father's closest friends. Fate blurs the lines of past and present to pull these two together. The only question is...Were they always meant to be? Or damned from the start? Love & Hockey is a standalone, age-gap, romance. It deals with sensitive subjects some may find triggering.

This book was so difficult to put down. The characters had strong personalities that was consistent throughout the book. I loved the start which provided the point of view of Valors mother and set the scene for that relationship.
The friendship that Riggs and Valor have is so relatable that we have a friend like that in our own lives. I can’t wait to read more in this series!

Monty Jay is a new author to me and I think, with one book, I might be hooked.
Love and Hockey was a fantastic blend of sports, romance, emotion and angst. Valor and Bishop are that romance of the ages. Fated mates who were always meant to be together - even despite the odds.
Valor might just be my new favourite FMC. I connected with her instantly, and saw so much of her in myself (apart from the hockey skills haha). She was strong and determined and loved with all of her heart. Bishop was the ying to her yang and balanced her so well.
I can’t wait to read about Riggs and Nico (Riggs broke my heart in this and I need to understand her more).

There are so so many things to love about this book and it is so hard to think this is a debut novel. Love and Hockey has it all, passion, emotion, heartbreaking moments and above all love.
The love that Vallie and Bishop share is fated. They were always meant to be together it was just a matter of the right place and the right time. They completed each other, they each held parts of each other in their souls. This was a very emotional read but it was beautiful in the emotion.
Definitely a book that tugs at your heartstrings I cannot wait to read the next in the series. Ms Jay writes about real issues and real characters with a passion that far outreaches a debut book. She is definitely an Author to watch out for.

I just absolutely love Monty Jay's writing style.
It is truly like reading poetry.
The course of this couple's relationship was totally unpredictable, and it kept me enthralled and interested from start to finish.
I wasn't sure how I would feel about this book, given I haven't been loving hockey romances at the moment, but this one was exactly what I wanted.
Whether it was the author's fantastic style of writing, lor the layered and bantering characters, there was something about this book that just really made it stand out.
On top of that, I feel like there were just a number of plot points and progressions that I could have never predicted, but truly added so much to the character and story development, and bettering my understanding of all of the characters.
When I say I want a hockey romance, this is what I'm asking for.
I cannot wait to start the next book.
Five stars all round, and you guys have to go read it NOW!!!
I was invited to read a free e-ARC of Love & Hockey by Monty Jay. All thoughts and opinions are mine.

Wow! For a debut novel, this was incredible!
I absolutely loved this story.
Love & Hockey was an emotional but heart warming story.
From the very first chapter, I just knew that it was going to be the type of book to give me a serious emotional hangover. And I wasn't wrong.
I cried, more than once.
There is only one word to describe Bishop and Valor, and that is Fate. Their love was always meant to be. They were brought together when she was only 10 and he was 18 and a beautiful friendship formed.
Although this story is told in the present, there is plenty of flashbacks to provide the necessary backstory.
I absolutely loved Valor and Bishop!!! Their story was next level sweet! But there certainly were moments where I wanted to slap Bishop.
The most surprising thing about Bishop? His dirty sexy mouth in the bedroom!! Geeeeeeeeez that was totally unexpected!!! I don't know why, but i just did not expect that from him. Hey, I am definitely not complaining because holy crap, Bishop in the bedroom is HOT AS HELL!!
Love & Hockey will have you feeling everything. I laughed, I cried, my heart broke in to a million pieces (more than once) but it was also put back together and had my falling in love over and over again.
This is one amazing read that you will not want to put down!

I didn't like the first couple of chapters but I am glad I got through them (I felt Valor's actions and thoughts were too old for a ten and 13 year old) but the emotional ride the book takes you on is overwhelming. I will keep this one tucked away as a favorite.

I really enjoyed this debut novel by Monty Jay! The chemistry between Valor and Bishop was so intense. Furthermore, I loved the plot and all of the background characters. Monty writes a powerful heroine that has officially made it onto my top heroine list!

Holy crap on a cracker, debut author, Monty Jay, is one hell of a gorgeously talented young woman! She has woven magic with her story of Vallie and Bishop and I loved every word right through to the beautiful dedication to her Dad. I know any review that I write will not do it a justice, and I had no idea how to start it!
I tell you true that the intensity of this book was so much that I was in tears pretty much from the first page. The prologue just broke me and I was seriously a crying mess. What’s more, I couldn’t believe that this is Ms. Jay’s first book.
She has put together a compelling story that carries an air of philosophy and the belief that fate is pre-ordained, and I think that is what makes it such poignant reading all the way through. There seems to be so much brokenness, loss and sorrow in the early to mid stages of the book that I wondered if love and joy would ever feature. In spite of all this, it was my romantic heart as a reader, and the strength of Valour, our young female hockey player who was growing up in a world of men’s hockey, that kept me going. I needed to know if fate was going to be kind to her or not. She was simply an amazing young woman and I admired her wholeheartedly. I’ve been that lone 18-year-old young woman in an engineering world of men before PC even existed, and Ms Jay wrote her words perfectly.
I’m not going to speak on the plot because it is intertwined and complicated. Ms Jay does not spoon feed her readers and while I had my developing suspicions she still had me gobsmacked at the end. It’s told in my favourite dual POV with a lot of it being in italicised memory, and there were times where I needed to re-read for clarification. To be honest though, it really wasn’t a hardship, because this was one of those books where I demanded a resolution, but I didn’t want to finish with it too quickly.
With Bishop being the rookie team-mate of Valour’s NHL playing father, they met when she was a tween, and their friendship was years in the telling. Eight years in age difference is a lot at age 10, not so much at age 18. And it seemed that Bishop was the only one having trouble in switching focus, because I was as keen as Valour herself for their relationship to turn from friends to a romantic love.
Unfortunately, Bishop had a hell of a lot of baggage to deal with and even as I wanted to b!tch slap him, Monty Jay wrote his words so well that I begrudgingly understood where he was coming from. I can’t even explain how much I admire the amount of emotion that Ms. Jay can write into her words. In fact, I could wax lyrical forever about this amazingly written 5 Star book, but I’ll shut up now.
Except to say two more words. Read it!!! 💗

Monty Jay is honestly one of my favorite authors. I can't get enough of her books and with this book, have now devoured them all. I'm so glad I got the chance to finally read this book that started it all.
Bishop and Valor went through so much in their lives. I can't imagine the depth of their emotions. Monty Jay did an amazing job making me feel every. Single. Feeling. These two went through. I felt the heartbreak, the love, the devastation. What that wasn't even the top of the iceberg of what they were constantly feeling.
The scene with Riggs? Honestly gutted me. Not only is that a devastating thing to go through, but Valor's reaction and emotional turmoil? It was so much to digest.
I cannot recommend Monty's books enough and am always trying to get my friends to read them. I know I will be rereading them again in my future because I can't stop thinking about these amazing stories.
