The devil in my nightmares is the man of my dreams.

For the past three years, I’ve been running from a man I’ve never met. A man who carries a grudge. A man who specializes in revenge. I thought I had it all—a career and a new home in a sleepy small town. My world comes crashing down when a sexy gang member from the city arrives at my job, wrapped in tattoos and sinful smiles. Beneath his flirtatious facade beats the heart of an angry man. I’ve committed the one sin he can never forgive. I stole from him, and he won’t be satisfied until he’s repaid with the money or my life.

They say there are two kinds of power: power derived from fear and power obtained by acts of love. Cash Delacorte holds them both over my head. He’s everything I never wanted: dark, deceptive, and dedicated to a life of crime. He’s determined to pull me into the darkness with him, and the thing is—I want to go. Every kiss, every lie, every punishment propels me into a future I never dreamed possible.

I’m not sure if I liked the Hero, but I liked the story!

The book itself was good, I just don’t know if I liked the Hero or not. The Hero, Cash Delacorte isn’t your average rich, successful businessman. He also is not really a mobster. He is a former gang member that has left gang life and moved up, so to speak. He is rich and owns a nightclub and a Jewelry store, among other businesses but he seems to make most of his money in jewelry heists and bribery schemes.

The heroine, Jagger Jones is the manager and part owner of a small Jewelry store/gallery where she designs her own custom Jewelry. Jagger’s sister, Callie used to work for Cash and was his girlfriend, but Callie betrayed Cash, stole $200,000 and skipped town to New York with her new Mobster boyfriend.

Cash tracked down Jagger because she stole a ring from him and was caught on video feed. She wanted to see if was good enough to make a fake that was good enough to fool people. She made replica of a ring just like a ring in Cash’s store, with fake stones. Jagger then went to the store to try on the real ring and while the jeweler wasn’t looking, she switched. However, Cash tracked her down and wants restitution.

Cash had already been dreaming about Jagger after seeing her on the video feed. Then when they meet the attraction between the two is hot. Cash is a powerful and dominant man and Jagger is a bit more innocent and naïve. The romance is steamy (Heat: 3 Flames out of 5 🔥🔥🔥). However, I guess I just didn’t understand Cash.

Cash demands that Jagger pay him the sister’s 200,000 in addition to the price of the ring she stole. He threatens to make her disappear if she doesn’t pay up and he doesn’t give her long. At first, I just thought he added on the sister’s debt because he wanted Jagger and would eventually forgive the debt, but even after he starts sort of dating her, he still demands the full amount.

Then there are other times where Cash protects Jagger and treats her very well. So I guess I didn’t get it. Also he knows that she is stressing about the money and putting herself in debt to pay it off and he seems to be very wealthy so why does he care about that money? He ends up saying he is doing it to push her to be better, but that just doesn’t hold water. How many of us in the world are deeply in debt and did that make us better?

Anyway, I did understand some of the motives Cash had by the end of the book and maybe we will understand him better in book 2. He was pretty mysterious and wouldn’t answer Jagger’s questions about his past. Overall I did like the book and will read the next one. I just wish this one was longer and had a bit more background.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

It’s a no from me

Jagger is the most frustrating and pathetic female lead I have read so far in 2020. This woman has no self respect. Literally ZERO.

Now the plot of this book was actually good it’s just Jagger who RUINED everything with her annoying ass. If she had even a little back bone and stood up against Cash, I would have given this book five stars. The only good thing she did in this book was the moment she paid back cash 200K and that scene was also later ruined by her dumb ass by not standing up for herself.

So basically Cash comes to Jagger and demands her to pay the money HER sister stole from him and this woman didn’t even once try to contact her sister to ask for her help.......... who is now dating some scary mafia dude (whose book I read and I’m actually surprised she ditched her sister like that to live her own HEA)

And when Jagger can’t come up with the money she does the following.

“Wait.” I can’t believe what I’m about to say. “I’ll do anything. I’ll—I’ll have sex with you.”

”Whores are a dime a dozen in my line of work. I can have a girl in my bed within fifteen minutes who’ll do anything I want, and it won’t cost me no two hundred grand. What makes your pussy so special?” No matter how hard I try, I can’t come up with one thing to make me special. I’m plain, a little chubby, and my nose is crooked. “I’m desperate.”

I never imagined a moment in my life where I’d be exchanging the right to live for sex. Excitement flutters in my belly. This might be wrong, but I’m going to enjoy every minute.

JAGGER HUNNNNNNYYYYYYYYYYYYY YOU NEED GOD.

And you think she can’t stoop any low?
There is this one scene where after they fuck, Jagger tried to ask Cash about a girl. Cash COMPLETELY IGNORES her question and is like “Im going to take you home”. And what does Miss Jagger do?

”Wait. Just a few more minutes. I’m so comfortable.” I snuggled deeper into the warmth of his chest. He smelled like me, like sex.

I’m pretty sure she did some more despo stuff which I missed because I skipped so much. So the One star is for the plot and - 4 stars because of Jagger.

The devil in my nightmares is the man of my dreams.

Oh Mr. Delacorte, I've been REALLY waiting for you.

If you've read Nicky and Calliope's story in The Ruthless Knight, the name Cash will sound very familiar to you. Because he's the bad boy boyfriend that Calliope stole from and skipped town. If you haven't read it, no worries, because you will easily pick things up here.

Jagger is Callie's younger sister. Just like her sister, Jagger is a talented thief, but she's also one that's trying to turn her life to the straight and narrow. She used the money her sister stole from Cash to restart her life, but it's not long before her sister's debts start calling int he form of a sinfully sexy and tatted up stranger that's intent to turn her world upside down.

If there's one thing that this author can do phenomenally well, it's craft one intense alpha male. Cash is brooding and mysterious with an aura of dangerous that's a one-two punch straight to the ovaries. I was instantly drawn to him and starving for every little detail of who this man really is. The secondary character, Gage, his friend, was equally magnetic. Cash is rich criminal with a dark history. He knows he can't get to Callie so he'll take his pound of flesh from her sister. The chemistry between them is instant and sizzling.

This is a quick read, and while I devoured every page, I also wished it was longer. The pacing was great, but there were some integral parts that were missing in both Jagger and Cash's characterization. I would have loved for some of the story to be further fleshed out. As it was, the puzzle pieces and the why's just didn't quite click for me. One of my most anticipated scenes was when Jagger finally gives into Cash, but I felt like that chapter was taken out and instead we get diluted flashbacks. I couldn't help but be frustrated with that. I suppose I just needed a little bit more from this story to fully connect to the why. It felt like chunks of the story were missing.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it quite a bit. Heck, I read it in one sitting. It was quick-paced and entertaining. I'm definitely curious to see how everything ends, especially with the plot twist at the end here. If you're looking for something quick but satisfying, this will certainly hit the spot.

Absolute Power
Absolute Power Duet #1
By: Jeana E. Mann

REVIEW ☆☆☆☆
I have loved every Jeana E. Mann book I've read, and Absolute Power did not disappoint. The story of Jagger and Cash is
dynamite! Jagger is, unfortunately, caught in a bad situation. Cash has no intention of letting her out of said situation. He wants money that Jagger doesn't have, but what can she do? I didn't love Cash, but I didn't hate him, either. Jagger has my sympathy for what is happening in her life. Still, despite the crime and the danger, Cash and Jagger share a dynamic filled with tension and heat and desire. Two people at odds but totally hot for each other? It makes for a good time read with all the feels. I'm excited to read the next book!

My-Post-1
All my reviews can be found on my blog : ABSTRACT BOOKS

Absolute Power is the first book of the Absolute Power Duet by Jeana E. Mann.
Told in dual perspectives , this book revolves around a dark twisted romance that takes birth from an act of thievery.

This was my first book by this author and I am moderately impressed. There were many things that I absolutely loved about this book , but there were also a few negatives that had me deducting stars from my review.

In this book we get to meet Cash and Jagger. Cash , the male lead of the book is an ex-gang leader who is now a businessman. He may have seemed to leave his gang life behind , but his tactics of business haven't changed in the slightest. He is a ruthless owner of a chain of businesses ranging from a jewellery store to a nightclub.

Jagger , the female lead of the book is an owner of a jewellery store , where she designs her own custom jewelry. Jagger's sister used to work for Cash and stole from him. In his trail to catch her, he stumbles upon Jagger. From the moment they both met each other, sparks literally flew.

However , Jagger wasn't that all pleased to meet her. He demands the full amount of money from her that her sister stole from him. Jagger too stole a ring from him , whose design she wanted to replicate (another thing I found odd) . He wanted her to pay for that too.

There was one major thing that I hated about this hero, and that was his ruthlessness to get his money out of Jagger. At first I thought he would forgive the debt. But , no matter how much he saw Jagger's struggles to collect his beloved money, he didn't change his mind. Why did he even care about money?? I mean he was so rich. It was a bit confusing for me and just spoiled my mood throughout the story. However the second part of the story is yet to come , so I can't really place my judgements.

This book is recommended to all the dark romance lovers , who are addicted to themes like blackmail and dark romance.

this was my first novel by this author and even though this is a standalone duet, I feel like it should be read after reading “the ruthless knight.” I thought the writing was great however I did not feel any connection between the main characters and it really deterred me from wanting to finish this book. after about 63% skimmed the rest of the way so I think this is definitely better suited for people who have read TRK. I wasn’t lost but there was no connection and I don’t plan on reading the conclusion.

I'm a fan of Jeana Mann. The Royal Arrangement was my first ARC and read from her. The Pretty Broken series was addicting as well.

I'm writing this review for the whole duet as one book is pretty short to write about.

The blurb was intriguing that's why I signed up for this one.

This duet is an amalgam of mafia romance, enemies to lovers, boss-employee and in love with your sister's ex-boyfriend.

It was a slow-burn for me even though their relationship developed fast. It wasn't as gripping as I thought it would be and I didn't really connect with any of the characters, but it's probably just me...

Jagger finds herself in some serious hot water when she steals from Cash, her sisters ex, and now he not only wants her debt but her sisters as well and he’s not playing around. Cash and Jagger have a instant attraction but even though he wants her he also wants what is owed to him so there push pull was a bit confusing at times. Im looking forward to the second part of this duet to see how this continues to unfold between these two

Jagger's life is finally going well. Then Cash storms into her life and upends it. She now owes the man for her sister's theft (and her own). What lengths will Jagger go to to get the money to pay him back? Will she be able to guard her heart against him and his utter ruthless sensuality?

I gotta say that I was impressed with this story and with Jagger. I like her a lot - she's strong and smart and kind-hearted. Cash, on the other hand, I don't like at all. He may not be a gang member any longer, but he's not really a changed person. He's still an asshole. He's still ruthless and shady af. And he still doesn't seem to give a f about anything but money. He knows Jagger isn't responsible for her sister's thievery, yet he still makes her pay him for her sister's debt. And, yes, Jagger did steal a ring from him, but it's not as if the man needed the money back. Not when he could tell just how much Jagger was having to do to obtain the money to pay him for either her sister's or her own debt. God, he's a dick. We'll see if Jeana can redeem him in Absolute Trust. I honestly have my doubts, but I still can fairly give this 4 stars because the story so far is entertaining, a bit dark, and definitely hot.

Absolute Power (Absolute Power Duet#1) by Jeana E. Mann is a spin off of the Royal Secrets Trilogy. It is not necessary to read the books but I would recommend it just because I really enjoyed the stories. Jagger is living a quiet life in a small town when a blast from her past walks into her jewelry store. Cash Davenport is not a nice person. He was Jagger's sister ex boyfriend and the person she stole 200 thousand dollars from. Now Cash has shown up and he wants his money. Jagger has not seen her sister since the last job they pulled together and was given 200 Thousand dollars. Jagger has no clue how to get ahold of her sister. Cash wants his money and if he can't get ahold of the sister, Jagger will do. The two embark on a journey that is part business with a real dash of sexual tension. Jagger doesn't have the money and trying to get it is putting her in dangerous situations. Cash is a the typical alpha male, sex on a stick with model good looks along with the bad boy swagger. This book had me from the beginning to the end. I am struggling on my feelings because 1) Cash is definitely a really a bad person and 2) he is the ex boyfriend. Having a sexual relationship with your sister's ex is a no no in my book. Plus collecting a debt from a family member is not cool either but if you are a bad boy than everything is far in love and war. The sexual tension between the two was hotter than several firecrackers on the 4th of July. The ending did leave on a cliffhanger and I wasn't expecting what had happened. So looking forward to the conclusion to Jagger and Cash's story. It is a toss up. What will Jagger do. 4 stars for me.

“Are you jealous, Jagger?”....
“Yes.”....
“Finally we’re getting somewhere.”...

Jagger thought she would start a new life in a new city. Looking for a peaceful place, this jewelry artisan used her sister's generous gift to start over. But the visit of a mysterious and dangerous man at her jewelry store will prove that the past always returns to settle the score.
Cash does not have a good reputation. The former gang member is now a rich and powerful businessman. But illegality is still part of his life and being fooled is something that cannot happen in his line of work.
Trapped in a larger debt than expected, Jagger, in addition to having to pay back the amount she stole from Cash, will have to pay the money her sister stole from her ex-boyfriend as well. Money that Jagger used to start over. With no way out, she will be drawn into the dark world of this man, who arouses both her anger and fascination.
First part of a duet, the book is a spin-off of The Ruthless Knight, since Jagger's sister is none other than Calliope, Nicky's girlfriend.
With a darker, more intense tone, the chemistry between these two reaches stratospheric levels. Jagger may be sweeter and naive than her sister, but deep down she likes danger. Cash hides a secret, and despite being a criminal, he sometimes shows a more caring side.
With a plot twist at the end, the situation of the protagonists is not the best. Dragged into this mess, Jagger may be the salvation or ruin of Cash. Only the next book can tell what will happen.

Jagger Jones come from a family with a crime history, and her sister stole 200k from Cash Delacorte and then ran off with her new boyfriend. Now Jagger is a part gallery owner and a jewelry designer with a knack for counter fits and she is on Cash Delacorte’s radar. Cash is a powerful, crime boss seeking vengeance for money lost but he can’t get Jagger Jones out of his head.

This story screams survival on Jagger’s side. She’s doing what she has to do to keep her business going, but on Cash’s side, it screams power and privilege with fancy cars and plenty of money. He also exudes strength, but I just bounced back and forth with how I felt about him. Sometimes he’s trying to protect Jagger and sometimes, extort her.

Overall, I was hooked on this story and I’m pumped for the second half. Power play, chemistry, and organized crime are major players that keep this story interesting and keep the reader on the edge of their seat.

Holy crap this book was hot and intense!!! Jagger is the manager of a jewelry store that isn’t doing too hot financially. Cash comes in one night to confront her about a piece of jewelry she replicated with fake stone and then stole the original and replaced it with the identical fake at one of Cash’s stores, sparks fly from the get go. Not only does he want his money back but he also wants the $200,000 her sister stole from him... plus interest! Things get hot and heavy between them although she continues to try to get him out of her life. She comes up with a plan that’ll get him all of his money but Cash finds out and wants in on the deal.

I DEVOURED this book in one sitting! It was sexy AF! The story was really well written and everything flowed exactly how it should! I think I’ve found a new author to stalk and devour all her books!! I need book two in this duet yesterday!!!!

I devoured this in one sitting! It was quick-paced and entertaining. These characters don't need any introductions because they kind of made appearance in The Ruthless Knight. Jagger is Callie's younger sister, who got caught up with settling Callie's debt towards Cash. Cash is a brooding and mysterious criminal who needed someone to pay for what Callie had stole form him. Lucky for him, he came across Jagger who also stole from him. As a way to pay his debts, he needed Jagger to be on his beck and call. However, no matter how Jagger had paid the debt, he still wouldn't let her go..

I'm definitely curious how everything is going to end, especially with that plot twist.

Five-star story

Why did I fall short of five stars for me?
Connection - I am hoping this changes in book two. Things between our MC's clicked a bit too quick for me to feel like the draw between them was more than sexual
Foundation - This falls a bit under the above ☝️ reasons. I need a bit more background that supports the events
Solid reasoning - Why? How? and again Why?
I also had a problem with Jagger - who has to be smart to pull off her heists - Why does she allow a rose and some testosterone to sway her towards a man who is systematically destroying her business and her life? Emotionally and physically blackmailing her for no other purpose it seems than entertainment?
At no time - one rose and a few empty sweet words do not count - did Cash do anything that supported the idea that she had any worth to him besides her artistic skills and a warm hole for his pleasure

I ranted quite a bit above but that alone should tell you that I was invested in the story itself.
It was solid -
Hello!!! That plot!
All the little bread crumbs telling me there is a whole lot more here!
Cash's blonde second 💦 be still my beating heart 😍
The supporting cast?
All the components were present - but for me, it was missing a key ingredient - connection
I am hoping book two provides me with that
This does end on an "Oh No!" moment

I loved this book. This was my first book by this author and I read it in one go, on the edge of my seat the whole time.
Without going into too much detail I will just say I loved the dynamic between Jagger and Cash. Cash was such a jerk. I didnt know if I loved him or hated him honestly. Jagger was a little minx and although the book wasnt super long, alot seemed to happen! I can't wait for book 2! That ending had my jaw dropping. Cash better have some explaining to do.

This is the first book in the Absolute Power Duet, and the story of Cash, and Jagger. When Jagger sister steals from Cash, and goes on the run, Jagger is left to deal with the consequences, but when Jagger tracks her down, the sparks fly. This was a great read, the characters have great chemistry, and their story kept me engaged. This was steamy, emotional, intense, mysterious, suspenseful, and dramatic.

This was sort of a fast read.

The H Cash was mainly concerned about getting his money from the h Jagger.

I feel like some parts of the book was rushed/ some details were left out.

The overall plot was good and i loved that. Even when they started kinda dating cash still wanted her to pay.

The H is a total douche and the h needs to get some backbone in her!

Steamy And Suspenseful! Cash And Jagger’s Duet Begins As Cash Enters Jagger’s Life Looking For Revenge!

This is the first book in the Absolute Power duet which is Cash and Jagger’s story. It is a spin-off of the stand-alone novel The Ruthless Knight. It is not necessary to have read that book first.

From The Ruthless Knight:

Calliope Jones, twenty-eight, escaped a horrible childhood only to discover the man that saved her was no hero. Abandoned by her father and left to be raised by a mother constantly in and out of rehab for a heroin addiction, Calliope was often left with the various men who came and went in her mother's life. She was molested, forced into dancing at strip clubs, and finally prostitution. When Cash found her, she thought she found a savior in him. They dated for years and he taught her how to run cons, but she eventually realized he used her the same way she had been used before. She wants out, but he claims she owes him and won't let go. Silently plotting her escape for a decade, she only needs the right opportunity to present itself to steal away and disappear from his wrath.

Roman Menshikov’s Masquerade de Marquis at his London club is her chance out. Things go awry first when Jagger, her twenty-two year old sister who is supposed to be waiting in their hotel room, talks her way into participating on the job. The sisters had been separated in their youth when their grandmother kicked Calliope out of her home along with their drug-addicted mother, but the sisters had since reunited. Calliope desperately wants to keep Jag away from her criminal life, but Jagger appears to be a natural so she gives in it at the last minute. Athena, Cash’s current squeeze, is part of the team but she isn’t a team player. Calliope and Jagger manage to escape, then Calliope leaves her sister at Heathrow Airport with instructions for beginning a new life and a key to a safe deposit box. She regrets abandoning her sister, but separating is the safest option.

Months into her new life as a bartender in Cleveland, Calliope notices a suspicious man lingering as closing approaches. She is too well-trained to panic, but she knows her cover is blown. Outsmarted, she finds herself held captive not by Cash, but by Mr. Big, as she had called him, from her last job at the London location of Devil's Playground. The two have incredible chemistry, which is unfortunate given the circumstances. When Sir Nikolay Reznik Tarnovsky takes Calliope to certain death at Valentina's hands as punishment for a job she participated in years earlier, he feels sorry for her. But Nicky’s family has been threatened and he has no choice. Although he delivers as required, Valentina is not finished with him yet. She sets about a twisted game of torture with Nicky and Calliope. Months later Cash happens upon the couple as they dine at one of Nicky’s restaurants in Manhattan. He wants the money that Calliope owes him, but Nicky makes it clear that she is off limits before having Cash escorted out.

In Absolute Power:

Cash Delacorte is charming, cunning, terrifying, and merciless. He makes people disappear and he runs cons – mostly cash and jewel thefts. He owns the people that work for him. He does a favor, comes on nice, but soon his targets find themselves indebted with no way out. Calliope had been indebted to him, but she walked away after a dozen years, and she owes him. He wants revenge. Payback. Unfortunately, she is untouchable. But when her younger sister Jagger comes on his radar, all is fair game.

Jagger Jones, twenty-six, hasn’t seen her sister since separating with her at Heathrow Airport four year ago. She feels abandoned, but she understands why Calliope keeps her distance. Jagger moved around a bit over the years and finally made a friend in Emeline – her coworker, roommate, and trusted friend for two years. She went through a particularly difficult time with Kyle, an ex that roughed her up, but with Emeline’s support she weathered it. She made a home for herself in Baxter’s Corner, Indiana. Once settled, she used her sister’s money to buy a modest home and a small part of Mercer’s Fine Jewelry and Art Gallery, the shop in which she works. Mr. Mercer, and older man without family, had become a father figure to her. He also taught her about jewelry. But Jagger had gotten complacent about her situation when she decided to earn some extra cash on the side.

When Cash walks into Jagger’s life demanding his money, Jagger doesn’t consider calling Calliope. She had spent too much time trying to get away from him. And besides, it was Jagger herself who spent the money – she just hadn’t realized that it belonged to Cash. Despite the fear he triggers, Jagger cannot help but feel attracted to Cash, and he seems to feel the same about her.

Cash and Jagger begin a complicated relationship at the end of February. It is a business arrangement, but their personal attraction is very real. Cash struggles with himself when it comes to Jagger. He wants her, but she refuses him. He tells her he never strays from a relationship, but that does nothing to alleviate her concerns. He decides he will have her anyways. He plans to own her by summer’s end. Their story ends with an unexpected twist and a cliffhanger.

Cash and Jagger’s duet begins as Cash enters Jagger’s life looking for revenge. Their story is nicely written and plot-driven. The characters are intriguing. The story is written in first person. The POV alternates between Cash and Jagger. I rate this book 4.5 stars.

I’ve been looking forward to reading this book for awhile. I wasn’t disappointed!

The story is quick paced, twisty, and STEAMY.

Our story centers around Jagger Jones, a talented jewelry maker (and forgery artist) who is trying to leave her family’s criminal past behind her.

That is, until her older sister’s literal partner in crime shows up in Jagger’s store demanding answers over a ring she’d made, and swapped out, from one of his stores. Cash Delacorte is not a man to be trifled with, stolen from, or tricked. Jagger has managed to do all of those.

Cash decides that Jagger is now responsible for the repayment of the stolen ring AND the high priced debit her sister left with Cash when she left him.

Jagger then swirls into a plot of desperate choices, crazy schemes, and risky actions. All while trying to fight her surprising and strong reaction to Court. Their relationship is truly a one step forward ten steps back situation.

While this story is complex, populated with intriguing and interesting characters, and well described leads, there a few things that poked at me while I read.

Don’t misunderstand. This was a sit and read until the pages are gone story. Knowing it is part one of a duet, the cliffhanger was expected, however Ms. Mann delivered in SPADES! I’m anxious to get my hands on the conclusion to Jagger and Cash’s story. Hopefully some of the things that were discordant to me in part one are solved in part two.

The things I stood out to me were Jagger and Cash’s physical relationship. After all the build up and written foreplay, we don’t get the actual final scene. It fades to black and then the reader is filled in via flashbacks. This is a new plot device that I haven’t run across in other books. I like the thought, however in this book, particularly due to the power play going on between Jagger and Cash, I feel that an outright bedroom scene with more of their power struggle would have suited this story better.

Then there was the one scene where we have physical contact with Jagger and Cash. I felt a little anti-climatic regarding this exchange. Again, after the amazing build up in dialogue, the push/pull of the little physical actions of the characters, coupled with their very strong personalities...I was sad to see Jagger give in to Cash in a quiet moment where she is feeling vulnerable, exposed, and crushed.
I would have preferred their standard argumentative byplay followed by some outrageous action that culminates in a hotel room. I had hoped for a stronger scene for Jagger. Particularly given her position at this point in the story.

Finally there is Mr. Mercer. He’s painted as a critical part of Jagger’s life. The story opens with Jagger lamenting the sales in the store, moves on to her buying into the store, has a touching scene when Jagger visits him in the hospital , but then he’s sort of ethereal presence in the background. We know Jagger has his power of attorney and she’s uncomfortable with that, but we never see Mr. Mercer again. He’s just mentioned to be in severely compromised health which is another weight on Jagger’s shoulders.

While these items stood out to me as a reader, I am a new reader to Ms. Mann’s world. It may be that these characters will continue on or be thriving in another one of her series. I understand this duet is a spin off of a current world. I’m also a new reader to this author so it may also be that she wraps up all of my questions, wants, and desires for these characters in part two.

Regardless, this read keep me engaged and dreading the known cliff hanger. I have set up my notifications for the next book in the duet as I’m a very impatient reader and would like my happy ending now vs later. I’m anxiously waiting for the conclusion to Jagger and Cash.

Warning: ends with a cliffie! And it feels like you’ve been running down a hill and are left standing in the very edge of a precipice! Hot and dark: this book is fast, short, twisted and full of lust.

This story is an offshoot of The Ruthless Knight, Nicky’s story, which I loved. Calliope was running cons with Cash Delacorte, and her younger sister Jagger joined in their last coup, which didn’t end well. Both sisters escaped, then Calliope gave Jagger the money they stole and sent her to the US warning her to stay hidden. Calliope’s story with Nicky happens in The Ruthless Knight and Cash remains with vengeance on his mind and a lot of money to recover.

After living in an abusive relation, Jagger escaped with the help of her friend Emeline. They settled and have been living in this obscure little town in Indiana for two years. She used Callie’s money to buy into a partnership with a jewelry store owner and also bought a tiny house. She’s been living a quiet life, but has been running cons, stealing jewelry and substituting for fake pieces she made. At first she did it to prove to herself she was good, then she did it for the love of the game. Until her last heist when she stole in one of Cash’s stores and he came back looking for vengeance. Once he saw who it was, he also wanted the money Callie stole.

Jagger and Cash start on an uneasy collaboration. Cash demands Jagger’s collaboration in his bribery and con schemes and as they spend time together, their chemistry flashes hot. Jagger likes walking on the dark side of the law, and Cash is like fairy dust for her. He is a mobster but for her, he’s more than that.

“Beneath my fear of Cash and my anger at Calliope for drawing me into this mess is a buzz of excitement. Before he walked through the front door, my life had been boring and predictable. With a threat and a kiss, he’s flipped my world upside down. I love a challenge, the thrill of outwitting someone more powerful than me, and Cash Delacorte presents the perfect opportunity to flex my intellectual skills. His granite jaw and soft lips are an added bonus.”

The thing with this story is that when it got going, and I settled down for a good, steamy story, all hell breaks lose and it ends in a spectacular cliffhanger. I was gobsmacked and left anxious for the end. I’m still not sure what to think about these two. Jagger sometimes behaves like the nice girl next door, but other times shows her con artist talents. She makes a great couple with Cash in that they both like to walk on the dark side of the law. About Cash, I could see that he was falling for Jagger but he still wasn’t all there. I have great hopes for Absolute Trust and see how these two perform!

This author is new to me but I am definitely going to be reading more from her in the future as I really enjoyed this first half of the duet.

Jagger Jones is a complicated character, while she desperately wants to lead a simple life after having had an extremely traumatic past, she still finds herself making silly decisions that end up with her meeting Cash Delacorte, a criminal who basically takes over her life. I like Jagger and want the best for her but also wanted to shake some sense into her at times. My word, she is a gutsy young woman, she has a sassy mouth and an inner strength and resilience that has helped her to survive so far. She is also a very caring and compassionate person. Cash isn’t as clear to readers in this half of the story seeing as it’s mainly written from Jagger’s point of view with the odd chapter being Cash’s point of view. I suspect we might get to know him better in the next half. Even so, he also is quite complex yet has a caring nature too.

Disciples of Rage are a scary crew, intentionally, of course, the descriptions vivid, and let’s just say I was very pleased I was reading about them not anywhere near them. Likewise, Jagger’s ex-boyfriend is a super cad of the worst kind, described bit by bit in the story building an awful picture of this character, one that makes you want to shake her and say “watch your back, that Kyle could sneak up on you!” 😄

I enjoyed the storyline, even if it is a bit on the short side, it truly kept you guessing about what was coming up around the corner with the twists and turns in the plot. The things I felt might happen didn’t but maybe in the next half 🤷🏻‍♀️, that’s the beauty of a story being unpredictable, I love it.

Bring on book two, Absolute Truth!

Absolute Power was a feast of dark, dirty and dangerous emotions. Jeana E. Mann got me addicted to this enticing world of crime and passion. This was a thrilling adventure of sin of all kinds.

Jagger has made enemy out of a very formidable man. Cash Delacorte was a gang member before getting out and making a fortune from various businesses. And Jagger has stole from him and Cash is determined to get his due. She finds herself in one bad situation after another. But she has no way to escape. And she is so badly attracted to the enigma called Cash Delacorte.

What is this with me and men with questionable morals? Cash is not a good guy. Not by any standard. Ex criminal and gang member, his dealings in night club and jewellery are still shady as hell. He is crude, ruthless, merciless and threatens Jagger without a reason. And still, just like Jagger, I completely enamoured by his bossy and cruel personality. Because this very man protects Jagger from other threats. Because this same man helped her with money when needed. Jagger is an amazing woman. Her past is full of dark secrets but she is determined to live an honest life. And even when Cash is pressuring him, she uses her special craft skills and every other skill she has to survive. Their relationship is the classic hate- lust- love kind. Jagger shouldn't feel anything positive for Cash but she feels this connection and unfathomable safety with him. Similarly Cash cannot put her out of his mind while she shouldn't have been anything other than a business deal. They have sizzling hot chemistry that is fuelled by forbidden hate. This was delicate balance and Jeana E. Mann achieved it successfully. I wanted more and then the jaw dropping cliffy came...

Absolute Power by Jeana E.Mann was an intense and heartaching romance full of action and steam. You will not be able to stop once you start!

Disappointing; was really looking forward to this book too. It's not very good: unbelievable and dull. Very contrived and all the 'coincidences'? Gimme a break. In a word: BORING. Nothing new or exciting here, and it's a novella of 126 pages. Had I known, I'd not have bought it.

The main characters? 😂 What/who is that character masquerading as an Alpha male? I've no clue who he is; how to describe him? He's nothing; not one thing or the other. Can't even remember his name. He refers to the fmc as Darlin', baby girl and all the other cliched overused endearments.
“I’m a bad guy, darlin’, and bad guys do bad things.” 👀 Apart from squeezing her thigh, what 'bad things' is he going to do? We're told he's a big bad man, but I'm not feeling it; feels more like a beta male pussy cat to me.

The author also manages to squeeze in the term LOCKDOWN, twice in this novella. I'd only ever heard this term used before in relation to prisons/prisoners. Now it's the 'new norm' phrase I guess, but I didn't feel its use appropriate in a romance. Thanks, but don't need a reminder of my forced imprisonment at this time, especially not in an escapist fantasy romance.

"The guy has his emotions on lockdown, that’s for sure."

"I’ve got to get my emotions on lockdown before he can use my insane attraction to him as a weapon."

Not sure what to make of it to be honest; have authors been told to include this term? Just made me feel cheesed-off and antsy. Will we all get used to being locked-down - I call it imprisonment - if we just get 'our emotions in check'; like there's something wrong with us for hating/resenting it?

I appreciate others will love this novella, but I don't. I gave up after realising I couldn't care less about any of the characters, or how it would end. Won't be buying book 2 which has a few more pages, 202. I wouldn't recommend it if you love dark, delicious, ESCAPIST / FANTASY romance with a frisson of fear attached. This ain't it.

This is not my first Jeana Mann book, but I did not read the previous book about Jagger's sister, so lost a teensy bit because of that. BUT, not for long, since this book fills in all the blanks that need to be filled in.

Before I start talking about this book, let me say that over the last couple of years, I've read most of Jeana Mann's books including the Felony Series and the Pretty Broken series. I'm impressed with her ability to create characters that the reader will remember. Especially the men, but the women too!

Cash Delacourt. Nope, never going to forget the Alpha male who pulled a gun out in Jagger's office. I grinned and thought right then that this book was going to be one hell of a good ride (and watch Amz censor that last sentence). And it WAS a good ride. The plot stayed consistent, there were no burps where it jumped around or made no sense. And as I said before, Jeana Mann knows how to build characters that you'll always have in your mind.

The story is rather basic, the woman's sister was a thief, she's a thief, but trying to go straight. Cash is the one they stole from. Beyond that, I am not going to mention anything of the story, since all the plot pieces will bring it together for you. Suffice to say, the book is great, but I wish it had been longer. I was so captivated while I was reading it, I actually flipped the page on the Kindle and discovered it was over. Not really a cliffhanger as much as it was a good place to end Part I of the story. I just hadn't expected it.

The characters in this book aren't overly colorful but instead have deep feelings and are formed around their part lives and feelings, giving them a very personal feel.

I enjoyed the book, as well as Part II, which I will review next. If you get a chance, read the book. I don't think you will be disappointed.

This is the first installment in the Absolute Duet, an amazing dark romantic suspense, sets in Baxter Corner, a small town. Cash is powerful, controlling, ruthless, dominant, angry, and dangerous. He is seeking for revenge. His entire demeanor exudes danger, power, and sins. Jagger, Calliope's sister from the Ruthless Knight, is sweet, independent, and a strong warrior and survivor. I love her name. They share an instant attraction, and an explosive chemistry. The storyline is fast-paced, and captivating. Impossible to put it down. The secondary characters are great, and intriguing. I love Emery and Gage. The world building is well done, and intriguing, filled with twists and turns. The story ends with an unpredictable cliffhanger. I enjoyed it, and I HIGHLY recommend it. Looking forward to read the last installment in this duet.

You can read this story as a standalone, but I if you have time, I highly recommend you to read the Ruthless Knight before. This duet is a spin-off of the amazingly dark Ruthless Knight (Calliope's story). The Exiled Prince Trilogy and The Rebel Queen Duet are also part of this amazing world. You should also consider to read these Series. You won't regret it. I love these interconnected Series, with intertwined characters. Jeana E. Mann never disappoints.

Reading order suggested:
1) The Exiled Prince Trilogy (Henry and Everly)
2) The Rebel Queen Duet (Roman and Rourke)
3) Ruthless Knight (Calliope and Nicky)
4) and then, Absolute Power Duet (Cash and Jagger)

* I received an advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review *

Jeana E. Mann has this way of knowing exactly what I want to read. Absolute Power is another great book to add to her collection. After reading book one I can only imagine that after reading book two this duet will be added to my favorites list.

I am not sure whether as the reader I was supposed to like Cash, but I just cannot hate him no matter the horrible things he does. I was very disappointed that the first night Jagger was with him we did not get all the details. We got some flashback but that was only part of what went down. Not going to lie that build it up for me though and when they met up in Vegas that made it even hotter!

At times I wanted to shake Jagger and tell her to just call her sister. This was her problem and she was dating a rich powerful man who probably could have fixed the situation for them both. She had to know that Cash knew where she was since he seems to know everything. The thing about Cash I did not like was how he seemed to want her, but he was basically ruining her life and was like I must do it. He could easily have let it go.

I am so anxious to read book two and I hope that we do not have to wait too long. Of course, we are left on a cliffhanger and I cannot wait see what will happen next. I need to know if Jagger and Cash can find a way to be together. Great job as usual Jeana E. Mann.
