What happens when a book blogger accidentally publishes her digital diary online?
A viral shitstorm, that's what.
No way did I want thousands of subscribers to read my confessions--yet, that's precisely what went down last night after four too many Cosmos with my girls.
Now, Damage Control is my new middle name because my diary confessional has my roommate, Lucas Stone, written all over it.
Literally.
I've been in love with him forever--well, ever since I saw him sprint across campus naked during our first year of college.
And now that Lucas knows how I feel about him? Well, things are destined to get awkward.
Because Lucas Stone, my BFF--the man who sleeps only one room over--just got engaged.
And his fiancée isn't me.

I am not sure about this book. I am a bit confuse. Confessions of a Bookaholic started with a cute rom com vibe. I know this book is suppose to be light, fast NA romance story. I was not expecting much on heavy and dramatic plot.

Into the half, everything seems falling apart. Like a glue failing to glue what needed to be glued to make a good entertaining story. Instead I got a mess batch of cake. The plot becomes so dry. The writing got sloppy at the end. I do not know what is going on. It is like the book is written in hurry to meet the deadline.

This is my first read by Miss Westbrook, BTW. Overall I do not hate the entire book. Like I said the start of the story is fun. So I am going to award it with 3 stars.

If there was only one GIF that could show you how I feel after spending my whole evening reading this book, it would be:

description

Don't get me wrong. I pre-ordered this book a couple of weeks back after a friend of mine read an ARC. I was so excited as she never really enjoys contemporary romance and I LOVE this genre. So... What I expected was:

description

But I got:

description

I know, I know... I'm too harsh. But it all comes to me being overhyped on something. It still was a good story, just not so good when you've read many like this before.

The first half had me aweing and hot hot hot but then the last third of the book was just boring. Let's just push each other away and not fight because we have been in love with each other for the past 10 years.

description

Exactly... What? I knew it was too beautiful to be true, but then BANG!

I did like the temperature of the book and adored their first date if you know what I mean...

description

And let me tell you this - our heroine knows how to write! After a few cosmos in her. And wine. While sitting on a washing machine! That was some good and spicy diary content! SO bravo to the author for funny and lovely writing, which I could appreciate even if the story itself was not my cup of tea.

Confessions Of A Bookaholic
By: Joslyn Westbrook

REVIEW ☆☆☆☆

I have mixed feelings about Confessions Of A Bookaholic. My complaint is that a little less f bomb would have been great. I don't mind language, but sometimes it's excessive. Still, I understand this is a personal opinion and preference, and to each their own. Otherwise, the story is a fast read with loads of charm. Macy is a personable and relatable character whom I sympathize with completely. Her witty self deprecating humor is spot on from page one. Lucas strikes me as the clueless jock with a good heart. I like him because his stereotype is so authentic to the real world that it's like I know him. I appreciate the well developed characterization of Macy and Lucas. They are really real, and that's awesome. This story is thoroughly modern and appealing because most of us have had a tech snafu at some point. I was laughing out loud at the shenanigans created by Macy's little disaster. I was rooting all the way for a happy ending for Lucas and Macy. How does it end? Do two best friends forever lay all of their cards on the table? Being vulnerable is a big risk, but sometimes the juice is worth the squeeze. Right? Of course I'm right! I give no spoilers, so go forth and grab a copy right now. You seriously will love this romcom, chicklit, contemporary fiction book.

I liked this book. It was corny & cheesy & and full of humor. I enjoyed the characters too (even side characters), however they do have their moments where you go “really?!”. Overall this is a fun, light rom-com to enjoy when you want something light a easy.
This was my first book by this author and I’m happy to say I enjoyed it. One note, I loathe the cover...I’m sorry but she looks like a blow-up doll 🙈🙈

ALL MY REVIEWS CAN BE FOUND ON MY BLOG: ABSTRACT BOOKS

"Turns out Anne Elliot’s my spirit animal. I too am in love with someone who shall never be mine…"

Confessions of a bookaholic is a Contemporary Standalone romance , written by Josyln Westbrook. Told in dual perspectives , this book has to be the best blend of humour and romance that you'll ever find.

This book is hands down the best contemporary romance I have ever read. I rarely read contemporary stuff because I am more on the dark and gritty side , bit something about this book intrigued me and I couldn't resist signing up for it.

Macy is truly my girl crush now. I am literally in love with her. And don't even get me started on Lucas. I don't think I have ever swooned this much over a fictional character!!

Macy and Lucas have been best friends since their childhood. Macy has been in love with him like forever but has never been able to tell him about it. A stupid pact that arose between them , a pact that binded them as just-friends , further ruined Macy's chances. So she keeps her feelings shut and tries to move on.

Everything was going fine , until Lucas proposed to his long time girlfriend. In throes of her agony and after a few shots , Macy ends up publishing her dear diary entry on her world wide famous blog. What occurs after that was an epic cluster fuck!!

Lucas reads that entry , and to say he is shocked would be an understatement. He has always had a soft spot for her, even thought of making Macy his girlfriend a while ago but he had never dreamt that she has been in love with. Now it's up to him to confront her and make a choice.

The humour in this book was so Ah-ma-zing!! I have never laughed this hard while reading a book. The ending was every bit swoony and had me blinking back happy tears!! There were some scenes Lucas in which he was the ideal book boyfriend , and omg I can't even tell you guys how perfect he is. Then there was his last stunt which hurt Macy so much. I wanted to Junk punch him so bad. But he made up for that really good!!

"now I pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the—”
“Holy, S-word ,” Sage yelped.
“My water! My water just effing broke."
And as the saying goes, good things come to those who wait."

This book is recommended to all the contemporary romance lovers out there . If you want a mix of laughter and swoon-worthy romance , then this is the first book you should consider reading!!

Confessions of a Bookaholic is a fast paced roommate romance. It's a fun read, with a little drama, and some awesome side characters.
Macy has been in love with Lucas... well... since forever. Lucas is engaged, but not to Macy. He has no idea how Macy feels. But he has a secret too. And it spices up everything!

I was hooked from the first page on. It flowed so well that I didn't even realise I was almost finished until I saw the epilogue.

So adorable!

I signed up for Confessions of a Bookaholic because the blurb sounded really hilarious. A book about a book blogger. Well, I wanted to read that.

Style
Joslyn Westbrook puts down a fairly light-hearted story on paper with Confessions of a Bookaholic. It is written from both Lucas and Macy perspective and from the first person. I personally find this the best reading experience and was happy with it. It is not part Macy, part Lucas. Macy has more parts than Lucas, but the fact that you sometimes read from his perspective was nice to gain insight into his head. Westbrook's story reads well and you go through it pretty quickly.

Bookthoughts
I'm going to divide this part of the review about Confessions of a Bookaholic into a pro and con part. Because my head is very much in it right now.

Pro's
The book is a great read and I am sure you can enjoy it in the sun. Great for a summer at the pool. It is a sports romance which is perfectly nice and a wonderful friends to lovers novel. I thought it was a fun and cute story. The side characters are really great. I would like to know more about Sage and AJ. That seriously seems like a very nice couple to read about.

I also found Macy's clever comments very entertaining. Lucas is very sweet and thoughtful and Macy is a typical girl next door girl, which gave the story a high cuteness.

Con's
I expected something completely different. I was expecting a nerdy heroin who's with her nose in her books a lot. She reads exactly 0 books throughout the story. I expected her to blog a lot because according to chapter one she has a big blog with even an accompanying app. You don't give that up suddenly. She blogs exactly 2 times in the whole story, the second of which is really totally out of character for me. Since she was ashamed of the first accidental post she deleted and then she will write a follow up post about it … very strange.

Then it was a very cliched story between two friends who are in love with each other, but actually don't stand up for themselves at all, but always presume things, which make it go wrong again and again.

Then we had a job offer, which kind of doesn't get mentioned in the story anymore due to certain events (says nothing because spoilers), until almost the end, where it comes in handy to let the story end well.

As you might notice I was very annoyed with the points above, so that's the reason the book really doesn't exceed 3 stars for me. Very sorry, because I had bigger expectations.

Conclusion
A story that will not stick with me, but it is fun to read by the pool.

When Macy finds out that her best friend-roommate-long time crush, Lucas, that she has been in love with for years has proposed to his girlfriend, she gets way too drunk at a girls night out. The next morning she finds that she has word vomited her feelings for Lucas all over her book blog while stating that she is moving on. Lucas sees this post and freaks out because he has been in love with her for years also but because of a stupid childhood promise to be best friends forever he never acts on his feelings. So what happens when they both realize that they are in love with each other and want more than friendship? Hilarity and boyfriend goals. That is what happens.

This was my first book by Joslyn Westbrook so I didn't know what I was getting myself into but his book was so freaking funny. I was laughing throughout the entire book (well except that one part when Lucas was dumb) and I couldn't get enough of it. Macy and her girlfriends were hilarious and perfect. I loved how supportive they were while also telling her to quit being dumb and go for what she wants. Loved that Lucas wasn't a giant man whore (so rare these days to see that) and you could feel/see how much he adored Macy. Loved loved loved this book and I will definitely be reading more from Westbrook. Highly recommend this one if you are in need of a feel good romcom.

When you're drowning your sorrows in the deep depths of a wine bottle feeling hella sorry for yourself, what is the best thing to do?. Obviously post your deeply hidden feelings of undeclared love for your soon to be married best friend/ roommate on the internet for hundreds of thousands to read.

Seems reasonable right?.

When I tell you I laughed so hard!, I'm not joking.

I loved that going in Macy and Lucas already had a unbreakable connection from years of friendship. I feel like the romance only enhanced that connection and made the chemistry so palpable the tension felt explosive. I loved their easy transition from friends to lovers and I really loved that easy banter and ease they had around each other. Everything was so natural, it just felt right.

It's not smooth sailing and they both had to grow ALOT through their journey to make it work because despite the love they had, it at times was their downfall. I loved everything about their story!.

I feel like as characters they are relatable and easy to like but they're also not afraid to admit their wrongs. Their story flows nicely with a little of everything to keep things interesting without it being to angsty and I sure appreciate that.

It's my first read from this author but it definitely won't be my last. I thoroughly enjoyed her style of writing. It's a sweet, funny and swoon worthy story of two friends on their journey to forever and I was all here for it and all the feels.

Also a honourable mention to the side characters who truly were a great! I want their stories.

If you're thing is romcom, you can't do any better than Confessions of a Bookaholic by Joslyn Westbrook.

A fun, flirty best friends to lovers romantic comedy that will have you lol!!

It takes a drunken digital rambling which is accidentally published that eventually gets Macy and Lucas together.

They're sickeningly in love and despite it being many years in the making, their love is only now unleashed.

Supported by a cast of friends and fellow UCLA students, as well as parents who 'always knew' that a relationship between these besties was inevitable, keeps your interest from start to finish.

Confessions of a Bookaholic is a fast paced, easy read and is, in my opinion, an ideal summer release.

OMG Macy and Lucas provide such a sweet read. Plan for some funny with some drama thrown in the mix to keep you guessing. As someone who is a self proclaimed bookaholic this story was right up my alley. Love the different troupes mixed in this read. Book blogging, sports, best friends, and some second chance elements were deliciously woven into this storytelling. You will get the right amount of sexy, so prepare for some fan yourself action.

Awesome storyline that is worthy of four beautiful stars. Happy Reading Everyone!

**3.5 stars

So I will admit, the first 40-50% of this book was amazing. It was quirky, funny, emotional, sexy, and the banter between our two characters and our heroines inner circle was always on point. But it seemed to loose through the halfway mark, and honestly, I didn't like Lucas at all.

So Macy and Lucas have been the best of friends forever, and are also roommates. Macy has loved Lucas for years and just when she's ready to tell him all her feelings, he announces that he's engaged. After thay devastating news, Macy and her girlfriends have a girls night and when she comes home she ends up blogging. Drunk blogging. And anyone can tell you that is not a good combination. (But Bloggergate will always hold a special place in my heart!) Anyways, Macy posts how in love she is with Lucas to all of her followers (she's a popular romance blogger) and she wakes up to thousands of comments and shares.. And the panic really begins to set in for our gal.

Lucas is the epitome of clueless. He has no idea that Macy has had feelings for him all this time, and because of that, he never reciprocated his own feelings. Now that he's proposed to his girlfriend (who is a garbage dumpster fire of a person) he feels like be has forever lost his chance with the girl of his dreams. When he finally sees his fiance for who she truly is, he is ready to give his all to Macy.. but miscommunications, misunderstanding, and missed opportunities makes for almost too much angst, which made the notion of these destined friends to lovers loose it's appeal.

The actual relationship between these two was really nice, but that's all it was for me. It's clear that they had connection and passion, but it was all surface level. And I hated how Macy always sacrificed what she wanted for Lucas. I know that was her own doing, but you'd think as her best friend, Lucas would know what she really wanted/needed. Also towards the end, I just hated him. My heart broke for Macy because he truly was a dick, but even the grovel at the end didn't make up for his behavior. At least for me.

I am glad that they got their happy ever after, and I hope there will be more books in the series because Macy's friends are freaking awesome! Plus I need to know what happens between AJ and and Sage.

Overall, this was a hilarious book that I truly enjoyed reading, I just didn't like our male lead that much. I will be reading more from this author though!

*I received an ARC of this book and these are my honest opinions!**

Confessions of a Bookaholic is such a fun read. Macy and Lucas have been best friends since they were six years old. They are roommates. Macy is a romance book blogger, she has a massive following. She loves journalism. Lucas a star college football player with NFL dreams. When he tells his best friend, Macy, he is engaged, this leads to a night of drinking and a blog post being made that shouldn’t have ever seen the light of day.

I loved Macy and Lucas’s friendship. Of course, they both had a secret crush on each other, though Macy’s end is not so secret these days. There is a lightness about their friendship that’s enjoyable. These two have loads of chemistry. I loved how much they cared about each other. Lucas is seriously the ultimate book boyfriend. He does the sweetest things for Macy and she doesn’t even realize it some of the time. Though, he does have one major jerk moment where he is kind of an idiot, but makes up for it in the sweetest way possible.

Not only did I love Macy and Lucas, but I loved their group of friends, especially AJ and Sage. I hope there is a story with these two because I’m dying to know more of their history together.

If you’re looking for a super fun and adorable best friends to lovers romance this is definitely one to check out!

Confessions of a Bookaholic was absolutely adorable Macy and Lucas were so cute together.
The synopsis of this book drew me in but the story kept me reading.

Macy was every drunk girl sending that drunk text to the person they love after a breakup, instead of a text she accidentally put it on her blog, her very popular blog, and this is no break up. Her best friend just got engaged, just not to her. Best friends since age 6 Macy and Lucas have been inseparable, College couldn't part them although this decision may be their breaking point.

I loved Macy. She was quirky and a little bit awkward and had her heart set on taking her writing to the next level. Lucas was sweet, attentive and driven. His desire to make it into the NFL however clouded his vision but when he got injured everything changed.

Both characters had there moments when I wanted to yell at them and scold them for bad decisions and lack of communication but for the most part this book was cheesy and hard to put down.

The secondary characters were also interesting, from Sage and Claire to AJ and Derrik. I'm kinda hoping that we may get to see the inner working of Sage and AJ and their future but also have some happy ever afters for the other characters.

This book scored an "I liked it" 3.5 stars.

Macy has been best friends with Lucas for most of her life and over time her feelings have evolved into love but she doesn’t believe he feels the same way. She dreams of being a writer so when she finds out he is engaged she decides to deal with her emotions by drinking a little too much and sharing her feelings with the followers on her blog. That would have been bad enough but when Lucas finds out things are about to get awkward.

Lucas’s feelings for Macy go beyond friendship but he believed that was all they would ever be. He now finds himself engaged to one woman while thinking about another so hang on tight as things are about to get a whole lot more complicated.

I adored the relationship between Macy and Lucas as they were so much fun. Humorous interactions, hot chemistry and all the feels as what started out as a blunder turned out to be the best thing that could have happened for both their sakes.

This book made me laugh, it made me scream, it even made me cry. This book put me through it all. I adored the story line of childhood best friends turned lovers. Add in all the public spectacle and my reality TV loving soul was in its glory. Macy was sweet and awkward, a little quick to jump to conclusions, but she just might be my new spirit animal. Lucas was hands down the best book boyfriend ever. I want to pull him out of the book and keep him for my very own. He raises the bar on romantic gestures. Though, I have to admit, there was a point where I wanted to throw my reader across the room because the characters opted to do some monumentally stupid things instead of actually talking to one another. However, I loved the supporting cast and there’s several I would love to see get their own books.

Macy and Lucas have been best friends since childhood but one drunken blog post later... and her crush and his feelings all come pouring out. Can they make their relationship work despite his NFL career, her desire to be a journalist and their decades of friendship?

So... I really wish that this had said in the blurb it was new adult and a football romance? 'Cause neither of those are really my thing. Despite that Macy is hilariously sassy and nearly saves the story and Lucas knows a grand gesture or great grovel moment when he sees one. There are some really cute moments of being in love with your best friend but at the same time - like sit down and talk to each other? A lot of this book could have been solved in about 120 pages but these best friends apparently really like to keep secrets from each other and that knocked off two stars.

Westbrook does a great job of writing a love letter to the romance genre and its fans though and it is sweet!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This book grabs you by your tits and won’t let go! The writing is crass and edgy and will leave you breathlessly laughing from the first line of the prologue.

This is the kind of book I have been searching for during quarantine fun, flirty, dirty, and the best romcom I’ve read in a long time. I’ve been in a dysfunctional relationship with reading lately. I want to read, but I don’t want to read. I open a book and it’s just eh-ok.

NOT this book!!! CONFESSIONS OF A SHOPAHOLIC is addictive, and I did not want to put it down! This book is unlike other best friends to lovers books I’ve read and crosses a book Vlogger with a football star. I mean, what could be better?

Thank you book gods and Joslyn Westbrook for crushing my book-funk and giving me a fun world to get lost in!

I adored this book from the get-go simply because the writing style reminded me of the Texting series by Teagan Hunter which is one of my favorite reads of this year.

It was full of banter and the characters were sassy which always pulls me in. The cursing and dirty jokes might push some people away, but for some reason I love it when the book is like that. Makes the reading experience that more fun!

Even though I don’t have my own sexy best friend who I’ve been in love with for years, there were other ways I could relate to the main character Macy. She doesn’t hold herself back with the sass and sarcasm and the fact she’s a bookaholic just makes it all the better. I loved the way her love for reading was entwined into the story.

Even though the book in general is pretty light-hearted, it definitely made my heart hurt a bit as well. I so didn’t see the twists coming and I really felt for the characters.

Even the side characters were amazing in their own way. It was a bit cliché that there was the bad guy as well, but oh how good it felt to see them burn! It’s always so satisfying when people get what they deserve.

All in all, this was such a pleasant slow burn romance novel and I’m glad I gave it a chance. Because that cover… Not my cuppa tea. So in this case it’s especially true to not judge the book by it’s cover 😉

Friends to lovers, roommates and sports romance are a good mix of tropes. I was all in from the beginning and enjoyed the story. I liked the premise of childhood friends becoming lovers as if they were fated mates.
I wasn’t quite happy with the hiccups because I felt they were out of character for the hero. As always a little communication would have solved the problem but then we wouldn’t have been able to enjoy the make up. And lack of communication is a common problem.

I wouldn’t have minded at all if the story was a little longer with more detail here and there but all in all it was a good escape from the daily pandemic life of 2020.

I would’ve given it less than a star if I could’ve. In fact, I should’ve DNF’d it but once I got far enough, I decided to see it through.

At first, I thought it was cute and full of promise. I love a good best friends to lovers romance so I was excited. But unfortunately, I was quickly disappointed.

The characters were not relatable enough to keep me rooting for them. The MMC lost me early on by crass way he describes his ex. I understand that this is a contemporary NA romance, but it actually felt like the author was trying too hard to relate to college age kids. Too many pop culture references and slang that just seemed out of place and quite honestly hard to read.

It also felt rushed and too unrealistic for most of the book. The most interesting conflict of the whole book was both bland, and infuriating because the MMC was just being a stereotypical jock with little to no concern for his “best friend’s” feelings. It was a constant theme where both main characters just did not communicate which just really didn’t seem authentic for a best friends to lovers book. It seemed more like two people who didn’t understand each other well at all.

Then don’t even get me started on the women in this book who seemed to place far too much emphasis on being a support system for their men instead of chasing their dreams. This was just about the point where I wanted to DNF the whole thing. It was so hard to relate to that type of thinking. Like come on, we LOVE a strong female character who will stop at nothing to achieve her goals but this book was the opposite. The MFC was lackluster because she didn’t seem to care about anything but what her boyfriend had going on.

Overall, I would never recommend. Unless rushed, forced, and unrelatable are things you’re into!

This book had me in stitches most of the time. Macy was too funny and definitely spiced up the life of those who were lucky to be around her. Macy and Lucas’s relationship was too funny at times and too much alcohol added to the angst. They were roommates and each had a secret crush on each other and the fact that Lucas was engaged added to the drama. The characters were so likable, funny, and well-developed. The author did a great job with this storyline. I read an arc and voluntarily chose to review it.

The book didn't seem to know what it was aiming for? Some parts were cutesy, girl next door, rom com vibes and other parts were ramping up the spice. It almost seemed like 2 different authors. I feel the title is misleading too, apart from the very beginning and very end, the fact Macy is a 'bookaholic' is hardly mentioned. I feel the title was a bit of clickbait to encourage readers to buy...
Some parts of the book were fun to read, but overall it's not a great book.

How adorable!
Seriously!
The idea behind this book was just too cute to pass up on, and I am so glad I didn’t.
Macy reminded me so much of millions of girls, just a little too much to drink, and *BAM*, truths all out in the world.
And Lucas. My goodness. The swoon he brought to the table was all kinds of right.
I loved this. Rooted for this couple, basked in their glory, the whole nine yards.

Such a cute story. The plot is amazing. Girl confesses the love for her best friend to thousands of her followers on her bookblog while drunk.
Obviously this starts the whole story between Lucas and Macy. Childhood friends turned adult best friend to then lovers.

Confessions of a bookaholic is my first book by this author and I enjoyed it alot. The characters were amazing. You liked them from the beginning and as a reader I could really understand how Macy felt. She‘s a big romantic due to the books she reads and reviews.

Lucas her childhood best friend just proposed to his long term girlfriend when he finds out about the feelings Macy has been harboring for quiet some time. He‘s a hot jock and after graduating will hopefully be playing for the NFL.

This story was really sweet. I enjoyed it alot.
