Abby

My heart races, palms sweat and knees go weak.
I’ve never seen anyone like Drew in a science lab. He’s made me a firm believer in chemistry existing outside a textbook. Until his ego shows up. Nope – No thank you. Moving on. I mean… who has an entourage in college?
When our professor announces we’ll be stuck as lab partners, I nearly lose my mind – I’m certain my dreams of becoming a doctor will go up in smoke with a distraction like him around.

Drew

I don’t date during the season.
The number of trolls who venture into the arena simply to chase jerseys is unbelievable.
In fact, I typically distance myself from the social side of being a college athlete because I have my eye on something bigger than our next D-1 championship.
I’ve taken painstaking measures to avoid distractions – at all costs. This plan has worked perfectly until Abby shows up at my door.
Gone is the plain studious girl I left in lab the day before.
Left in her place is the intriguing woman I want to know better.
Here I thought she wouldn’t be a distraction – yeah right… I am so screwed.
Abby’s gorgeous and there’s nothing plain about her.
I am this close to having it all. If I let Abby in, will my perfectly laid out plans disappear?

I like a nice guy sometimes!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: ❤️💙💜🖤💝
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘
World building: 🌎🌍🌏🌎🌏
Character development: 👤👤👤👤👤

The setting: Columbia River University

The Hero: Drew Jacobs – Star basketball player who wants to become a Pediatric Oncologist because his sister died of cancer when he was a teen. He is using his basketball scholarship to get everything he can out of school so he can get into Medical School.

The heroine: Abby Angelo – Spends all her time studying so that she can get into Medical school. She wants to go into pediatrics and she if focused on her studies so she can get into one of her top five choice schools.

The Love Story: Drew is a pretty big deal at the school since the basketball team has been winning. However when he goes to his first day of Chemistry Lab in his senior year, he wants to partner up with someone who is more interested in good grades than what he does on the court. So he sits next to Abby who looks focused and studious. Abby sees all the people that come up to chat with Drew after he sits down and thinks that he is quite the player. She is sorry to get stuck with him as a lab partner because in the past she has been used to get good grades.

I have read so many New Adult books where the Hero is a bully, a player or both, that this book came as a nice surprise. Drew is a genuinely good guy who is the perfect partner to Abby. They both have the same work ethic and goals. They get along from the start and both are a bit tentative to start something romantic despite being attracted to one another.

Drew never dates during basketball season because between ball and studies he doesn’t have the time. Abby is similar in that she has decided to forego college relationships in effort to focus on her studies and getting into med school. However, the two of them keep ending up together and the attraction builds from there. I liked this book quite a bit, but there were times when I got a bit bored, so I think it could be streamlined a bit. Though overall it was worth the read, so I gave it 4 stars!

I voluntarily read & reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts & opinions are my own.

Drew by Amanda Shelley was a delightful and entertaining college Romance that I thoroughly enjoyed. Abby and Drew are lab partners much to Abby's dismay the last thing she needs is a stupid, hot, cocky jock not putting in the work.Drew on the other hand chose Abby because he thinks she is just a boring nerd who won't be a distraction he can't fail the class.
How wrong they both are about eachother, they misjudge one another completely and as they get to know eachother and become friends they realise they have more in common than they both could have ever imagined.
I adored the slow progression of their relationship it was lovely to read, they were so good together and they have a great circle of friends that I am sure will have their own stories to tell in future books.
Amanda Shelley writes a very realistic account of the pressures of college life and I was drawn into it all very easily .This is a very sweet and charming romance that you will just fall in love with.
A Fantastic read 5 stars.

This was such a lovely read. It was a sweet and sexy story about two people who, on paper appear to have very little in common, but in actual fact have all their priorities aligned with each other.

"Somehow, she has managed to work her way under my skin, and I'm not sure I want to let her go."

When Drew Jacobs walked into his chemistry class, he picked the most studious person to sit next to, as he can't afford any distractions from his future goals. However, he soon realises his mistake when Abby Angelos turns out to be not just beautiful on the outside, but also inside. She gets so far under his skin that he finds himself breaking his own rules to have her in his life.

"She. Is. Everything. Everything I've ever hoped for. Everything I've dreamed of, and everything I never knew I wanted."

Abby has ambitions and can't afford to get distracted. When she first meets Drew, she has no idea who he is or why he's so popular, but she totally misjudges him. However, as she gets to know the real Drew beneath his jock persona, she finds herself totally attracted to him - but she's scared to become invested in him when they'll likely go their separate ways after graduation.

I adored Drew and Abby as we followed their story from lab partners to friends to more, as they experience true first love along with all the doubts, vulnerabilities and hopes that two focused, driven and ambitious young people can have when their futures are stretched out in front of them. I loved the spark and passion between them. I loved the support they showed each other and how they found comfort in the other. This was a fairly low angst story with two characters who were like real-life people to me. A really enjoyable read.

Drew is the first book in an all new series from Amanda Shelley and this is such a sweet and fun story. Drew and Abby initially seem like complete opposites, but they really have a lot of similar goals in life.

Drew is a star basketball player, he is at college on a sports scholarship, however, he is focused on school and trying to get into medical school to pursue his dream of becoming a doctor. Abby is hard working, she is studying hard to get into med school, so when Drew is her new lab partner in chemistry she is less than thrilled.

I loved Drew and Abby from the moment they met. I loved how much Drew surprised Abby with the fact he wasn’t just a dumb jock who expected her to do all the work and he’d just get the grade. There was an instant connection between them. Then, things progressed into the friend zone which is fun and the chemistry continued to grow, along with Abby trying to keep Drew safely in the friendzone because who knew where they would both be in a year. However, you can only deny chemistry like theirs for so long before you have to see how good it can be.

Drew and Abby’s relationship is fun, sweet and has some steam. I loved seeing how things progressed and how seeing these two people who may seem like total opposites come together and learn there is more to someone than what is on the outside and stereotypes.

The nice guy gets the girl in this charming YA romance! You can't judge a book by its cover...

While Drew is a popular athlete, he's also a super smart student. He's determined to become a pediatric oncologist, in honor of his sister who died from cancer. He kind of seeks Abby out as a lab partner because she looks studious and serious -- but Abby wonders what this jock could potentially have to offer her as a lab partner.

Little by little, they build up a friendship since neither of them are looking for anything more. But the attraction is simmering and eventually boils over. Despite his intentions to not get involved, Drew can't help but want more and more of Abby as he gets to know her.

This story is charming and sweet. It's pretty low-angst, but there are a lot of ups and downs as Abby and Drew navigate the waters of first love and what a college romance means for their professional futures.

Drew and Abby are so perfect, they are are adorable.
This book absolutely sucked me in - I couldn't put it down.

The build up to their first kiss was intense. I was loving their dynamics, especially when Abby was there for him when he needed it.
Their relationship seemed very organic, very natural and it was so nice to see all the layers to Drew.

The secondary characters really appealed to me as well- Chloe and Syd seem like people who would be my besties in a heartbeat. I hope they are getting books (please tell me this is the case!)

A highly enjoyable read.
Full of fun, drama, lust, and love; a solid 4.5 stars.

This one is a good read. Drew is a really good basketball player. He's not looking to go pro though he's hoping to get into medical school and become a doctor. Abby is focused on getting good grades and getting into medical school too. When Drew sits down next to her in class she thinks she's getting a dumb jock for a lab partner but he turns out anything but. She is not impressed by him being a big guy on campus because he plays basketball. He does come off as a little cocky at first. I liked her. She puts Drew in the friend-zone and gets to know him. There's a turning point that brings their relationship to more than friends. These two are cute and I enjoyed reading this one.

Yay another basketball book! Love it & loved this book. Loved getting to read about the games & I wish I could have been in stands with Abby & Sydney.

Drew & Abby were absolutely adorable together. They had way more in common than either suspected. Their story was so well written & such an enjoyable read. I loved that Drew wasn’t your typical jock. They both had such high aspirations for their future & worked so hard to get where they were & where they wanted to go.

I really hope we get books for Sydney, Chloe, & DeShawn. Both Abby & Drew had such great friends. I love when authors create such great background characters.

I received an arc of this book in return for an honest review.

I haven't read basketball romance for so long and I welcomed this story. This is amazing! I really enjoyed reading Drew and Abby's story. They are complete opposites, but they are so sweet together. I enjoyed their banter so much. Their love story felt real too.

This is a sweet, and fun read that will have you smiling all the way!

DREW

Written by: Amanda Shelley

Now this is my kind of book Basketball… Need I say more? I LOVE basketball. When I first read the synopsis about the guy going into Chem Lab with an entourage, I was thinking rock star, or royalty or something, but boy was I wrong. How Amanda seems to constantly weave basketball, an extremely pair of studious coeds, and some wicked chemistry into this book is beyond me. I love that this is a slow burn that made me fall wickedly in love with both Drew and Abby. This is a must read! Like, yesterday!

Drew has one goal - get into med school so he can be a pediatric oncologist. He uses his basketball talent to get him a scholarship to a D1 undergrad school. His final year at school he walks into his last chem lab trying to find a lab partner that would offer the least distractions. Little does he know that he picks Abby, the girl that will set his world on fine, turn his world upside down and be exactly on the same life course as him.

Drew and Abby are so awkward together at the beginning that they are so endearing. I couldn't help but smile so hard when they didn't know how to react to the other. My heart was melting right along with them the entire time . . . this was one of those times when you knew they fell before the story told you they did and you felt it, like really felt it. I adored every single thing about this story. I loved how Drew and Abby had an immediate connection but were too focused on their goals and med school to realize what was right in front of their face. This is one of those books that leaves me speechless . . . I adored every single thing about this book, I am devastated that it is over . . . Drew and Abby are pretty much everything and I would love to see more of them. So I have to say that I think this is a must read for everyone.

I have never had the pleasure of reading one of Amanda Shelley’s novels prior to DREW and I could not have chosen a better one to start! This sweet and sassy college romance really was quite the perfect rainy afternoon read for myself. I am a sucker for college romances and this one had all the components that really kept my interests engaged until that very last page. I loved Drew and Abbey and these two kept me begging for more as I hoped that they would get that happily ever after. I won't divulge if they do because that would ruin the fun but I can assure you this is a read you do not want to miss to find out for yourself! From the moment these two have the first fiery, awkward, and perfect interaction in chemistry class the chemistry in the rest of the book is just perfect as well. I can't wait to see what else is available and to check out the rest of the Perfectly Independant series from Amanda Shelley soon!

Drew is a college basketball player on a sports scholarship trying to get the grades that he needs to get into medical school. Abby is trying to keep her grades up to get into medical school and not get used again. Drew thinks Abby is a typical nerd, Abby thinks Drew is a typical jock, but when they get to know each other they realized that they were both wrong.

I enjoyed that this was a refreshingly sweet and fun read and not your typical college romance. Drew and Abby seemed like opposites at the beginning and quickly became friends which eventually grew into more. I did find at times that the story would drag and I found myself getting bored. I would recommend this book to those who enjoy college basketball romances.

Drew (Perfectly Independent #1) is a college sports romance (basketball) from Amanda Shelley that can be read as a standalone or as part of the series.

Solid College Romance

Amanda Shelley gives her readers a solid college romance with the first book in the Perfectly Independent series, Drew.

Drew and Abby were well written right off the bat. They are two smart, know what they want young adults and aren't letting anything stand in the way of thier dreams. Except maybe each other. Drew is the reluctant star of the basketball team and while he appreciates his "fans", he has learned the hard way how fake people can be. Same with Abby, she was burned by a guy in the past and definitely doesn't want the school superstar as her lab partner. So much for flying under the radar with him in tow. She's a girl with a plan, one that doesn't include a handsome distraction like the cocky Drew Jacobs.

"He may be arrogant as hell, but he's ultimately a beautiful giant."

What I liked the most about Drew's character was what lied underneath his big man on campus facade. It was fun and sad at times getting to know more about his characters life and how he became the young man he is today. It was one of those things where I went into the book thinking I was going to be annoyed by this guy and it was the complete opposite.

"I just hope I don't get too attached and me makes me cry when it ends.

When your life it planned out to a tee like Abby and Drew's are, love is put on the back burner. Something neither one of them thought was going to be a problem when making such plans. Such is the crux of thier storyline, the choice of dreams or love?

Drew was well written and I enjoyed the journey of Abby and Drew. They were young, however acted much older for thier age. Along with them, we meet his immediate family and Abby's two best girlfriends that add some much needed humor to the heavy parts of the story. While the book isn't super angsty, it is written smart and I didn't miss my angst all that much. Drew reads as a stand alone in a series, with a nice peek into the future at the end. Looks like Abby's friend Sydney's story is up next and I'll be checking it out!

Drew is a star on his college's basketball team...but his focus is on finishing school so he can go on to med school. So when he finds a lab partner that seems just as focused as he is, he is one step closer to reaching his goals. But, when he can't keep his mind off his partner, he is finding it harder to stick to his "no dating during the season" rule. But there is just something about Abby...

Abby is less than impressed when her new lab partner keeps getting stopped by his fans on the first day. She needs him to take this class seriously because she needs to graduate and go on to med school. But, as time passes, there seems to be a lot more to Drew than meets the eye...and she finds herself wanting to know more. She has been burned in the past...and there's a potential upcoming move across the country for med school...but she finds that her heart is opening up to Drew. When they finally give in...can they make it last? Or will their busy schedules, academic pressure, and the potential future across the country from each other going to put an end to their relationship just as it is getting started?

I enjoyed Drew and Abby. They were both hard-working students focused on their futures. You get an inside look at their internal struggles with opening themselves up to something that they have sworn off for so long. But...there is just something magical about their connection. I found myself enjoying the story and devouring every page to find out how it would all end. It seems like this is a series that I am definitely going to be following!

This is book one in The Perfectly Independent Series and it is Drew and Abby's story and omg what a story it is. Drew is the captain of the basketball team and lead scored but his main focus is to keep good grades so he can get into medical school and become a doctor. Abby can't believe that a mock decides to sit next to her and becomes her lab partner what has she done to deserve this still it is only for one semester but she needs to keep up her grades to get into medical school. Drew and Abby are great character's and I love there interactions with each other and they also have great chemistry and connection between them but will it be enough for them going forward as they are both dedicated to there chosen careers. I also love there interactions with there friends and the constant banter between them all and I hope that we have books for them to in the future. Omg I love this book so much and what a great start to a new series. I couldn't put this book down as I had to keep turning the pages to see what would happen next and it was so and I can't wait to read the next book in this series. Amanda Shelley is an amazing author and writer and I definitely recommend you read this book and others by her and you will definitely not be disappointed.

Drew was one sweet read! Drew is the first installment in the Perfectly Independent Series, and it was quite an opening installment. What I liked most about this book was it was low on angst. Even though there were some sad elements to Drew's backstory, there was no broodiness. The characters met, became friends, and fell in love. There were some miscommunications and bumps along the way, but it was a sweet romance with a delightful cast of characters.

Drew has a plan and a goal and a reason for his single-minded focus on achieving that goal. Basketball is paying his way to achieve that goal. Drew is humble and does not cash in on his basketball player rep. He's just a good guy looking to finish college and move on to the next stage of his goal. Drew chooses Abby as a lab partner because she looks studious and won't distract him. Much to his surprise, she doesn't even know who he is.

Abby is very goal-oriented, like Drew. She is not impressed by his adoring fans and lets him know immediately. Through a series of meet-ups and a genuinely lovely gesture on Drew's part, they become friends. There is an attraction, but neither believes the other is really attracted. Drew and Abby embark on their relationship with roommates involved and trying to stay focused on their goals. What the reader gets is a genuinely delightful love story as they fall head over heels. I truly enjoyed their story, and I look forward to the next in this series.

Drew – Amanda Shelley – 4.5/5 stars

*ARC received in exchange for an honest review*

Drew is the newest book by author Amanda Shelley. I adore Amanda’s writing and was anticipating this read since its announcement and it did not disappoint. This book follows Abby a studious young woman who has her sights set on med school and Drew the hotshot jock who will defy all the typical ‘jock’ stereotypes. The pair meet in their chemistry class where Drew scopes for a lab partner who will work just as hard as he will to get the grades he needs. When Drew spots the plain girl who has her head in a book he knows he has found his newest lab partner. Abby needs to nail this chemistry lab and will do anything to get through it with the best marks possible, however, when the cocky jock with a never-ending fan base ends up being her lab partner, she is internally fuming. Chemistry is rife from the start both in and out of the classroom and this fun, light read is a fantastic escape. The plot is engaging, characters are relatable, and the chemistry and friendship makes this one of my favourite reads of the year. Overall, a minimal drama and angst college romance that is a fantastic and light escape for any romance reader.

Original post with teasers: https://reesesreviews.blogspot.com/20...

Drew has wanted to be a doctor since his sister got sick. That want turned into a need after she passed away. To get through college he uses his basketball scholarship to take some of the financial burdens off of his parents. When he wants into his science class he knows picking the right partner will be crucial to helping him keep his grades up. When he sees Abby he knows she'll be the perfect partner. He sees her as a plain girl who is just as focused on school as he is. No distractions. Except he doesn't count on liking Abby and her not taking his crap.

Abby is focused on school. After one bad relationship where a guy used her to get him through a class, she's wary of Drew and his motivations for being her partner. But at every turn, Abby finds that she and Drew are compatible in every way.

Drew was a great read and character. Drew is hard working and has been through a lot to get him to where he is. He doesn't date during the season, but the more time he spent with Abby, he knew he couldn't only be friends with her. The two of them got along so well and had great chemistry. I enjoyed the slow build.

Drew was an adorable sexy story. The pacing, storyline, steaminess, and characters were amazing.

This is a cute and saucy story about two people who unexpectedly fall for each other in the sweetest way possible. From lab partners to friends, neither Drew nor Abby are up for the distraction a relationship would bring as they finish out their senior year of college, both with the ambition to get into med school. He's also a star athlete on the college basketball team, and holds onto his rule of not dating during the season.

Both are driven to ace their chemistry class, which makes their study time together important to both of them, and the mutual respect they hold grows into friendship. Both seem to be caught unaware that their friendship has blossomed into anything more, despite it becoming obvious to their friends and family. But, they're waiting to see what medical school programs will actually accept them, which could split them apart if they end up on opposite sides of the country after graduation. Is it worth the risk? Between busy study, work, and practice schedules, they try to find a balance as they discover their deeper feelings for one another.

I really enjoyed reading this book and particularly loved how wholesome the characters were without it feeling unrealistic. Totally satisfied my sweet tooth for romance with some sizzle.

Who knew that choosing your Chem lab partner could change everything? When Drew walked into class looking for a partner that wouldn't be a distraction he found Abby. Little did he know that his perfectly structured world was in for a change. Drew has been through his fair share of heartbreak after his sister passed but he uses it to focus on med school. Abby has one focus... medical school... she doesn't have time for anything but studying and working which is why she has no idea who her new lab partner is. After a bumpy start these two realize that you can focus on the end goal and still find love.

Once these two figured out that they were perfect for each other the story was unputdownable. I loved how focused Drew was including how much he respected and loved Abby. I loved that Abby changed her mind about him being like every other athlete. This story called to all the normal college romance tropes but both characters were so genuine that I really liked it. I want to know more about the supporting characters!

Drew was an incredibly sweet college romance and the first book that I have read by this Author.

Drew and Abby were a surprise to one another and after being paired as Lab partners in class, they start to build a friendship that neither of them expected. They are both extremely ambitious and don't want anything to stand in the way of their end goals.
They had so much in common and I loved watching their relationship progress through the stages of friendship to love. They were constantly there for one another when needed and built such a solid and beautiful friendship that turned in to so much more. The chemistry between them is undeniable. They know how to heat up the pages real quick.

Plenty of subtle humor that had me laughing out loud at some of the clever one liners.

An enjoyable, sweet and easy to read college romance that will have you feeling an array of emotions and will leave a huge smile on your face. I am really looking forward to Sydney's story.

Drew Jacobs is a basketball god on the CRU campus. He's also hotter than anyone that Abby has ever seen. But, all Abby can see is that Drew is a cocky jock. And, now Abby's stuck with him as her lab partner for the semester.

This college romance is sweet and entertaining. Abby and Drew built a strong friendship first. Through that bond, it was clear how well the two complemented each other. Their journey is realistic. It is also refreshing to have new adult characters that were such good people from start to finish. Overall, Abby and Drew are a special couple that I thoroughly enjoyed seeing their story unfold.

Both Abby and Drew have a great group of friends. I'm looking forward to learning more about them in future books in this series.

This slow-burn romance is a sweet, fun, enjoyable read that will have you smiling!

Drew was a sweet read about two college kids who become lab partners but it ends up being so much more. Drew is a star basketball player who wants to be a doctor because of a tragedy in his past, so he's going to use that scholarship for all it's worth so he can get into medical school. And this means that he can't afford any distractions. Abby is also a student who can't afford any distractions as she intends to get into med school as well. Drew thinks she looks serious (she is) so he sits with her so they can be lab partners, and from the jump, Abby gets the wrong impression about him. However, he really is a nice guy & not a player like she believed which was an utter delight in my eyes. Well, neither saw the other coming, and it seemed that fate put them together so a new journey begins. This is a story which came off realistic without any over the top drama and/or angst. I really enjoyed it a bunch, and I believe you will too. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Although most people on campus don’t see Drew for more than his skills on the court that is only a small part of who he is. Due to his past he has big goals for his future but for that to happen he needs to excel academically so when he needs a Chem partner he chooses Abby as he doesn’t want a friend he wants someone dedicated to their studies.

Although she believes that she and Drew couldn’t be more different she couldn’t be more wrong. They have very similar goals for both the present and the future so although at first she was dismayed to find out he was her partner she may just find out that having him choose her could be the best thing to happen to either one of them.

Neither of them are looking for a relationship as they are both steadfast in their determination to remain focused on school. They soon find out that friendship is not enough and with the love and encouragement of each other anything is possible.

DREW IS LIVE YALL!!!! Happy release day @authoramandashelley🎉🎉

I absolutely loved this book!! It was a sweet, medium to slow burn, romance that kept me hooked from the first page!

Abby and Drew were the cutest things. Both hell bent on making it to med school and both leery of starting a relationship with such lofty goals in mind! But I love when good old fashioned chemistry demolishes those walls and forces our mains together.

I loved Abby’s drive, her hesitance, and ultimately her love for Drew. Drew was my absolute favorite. A hotshot jock, determined to become a doctor, and he came across anything but your typical player. I imagined Drew as a shy, yet confident guy and I absolutely loved him all the more for it.

Abby and Drew were #goals and their story was so sweet. Engaging and a beautifully quick read, I definitely recommend this book!!!

This is the first book in the Perfectly Independent series and it tells the story of Abby and Drew. They are lab partners and they are complete opposites , yet so much alike. I loved the fact that they were only in college and already knew what they wanted out of life and how to get it.

It is a beautiful story of first true love and everything that comes with it. I loved the relationship between Drew and Abby, they were friends first and then became lovers. Drew was such a sweet guy and was also so gentle with Abby. Loved his relationship with his family as well. Abby was this nerdy, sweet girl that was so loveable. She was such a great support to Drew.

It was a good read. A little bit too slow for me at times, but nevertheless really good.

I got an ARC in an exchange of my honest opinion.

I enjoyed this romance story. This is a new author for me, I look forward to reading more from her in the future. This is a fast paced story where the author’s use of details not only kept me engaged but turning pages to the end. This is a well written story about Abby and Drew. They find themselves as lab partners. He is nothing but a distraction for her. He doesn't date to keep from getting distracted. Now these two find themselves each other’s distractions but what will fate have in store for them? You don’t want to miss finding out if they give in to their sweet distraction. I enjoyed their chemistry and their growth throughout the story. They truly made the story for me. They are strong characters that made this story easy and entertaining to read. I highly recommend this book.
