- Reviewed in the United States on October 1, 2017Oh, Jay McLean, what have you done to my poor heart! I have SO much love for Logan Preston! Such a wonderfully complex character, the boy broke my heart and made me fall in love, and I felt every moment of his tumultuous story. This is a gorgeous romance, a beautiful story about family, and a heartbreaking journey for a tormented man. A raw and emotional read that made me laugh, swoon and cry, and I couldn’t put it down.
Logan is the middle of the seven Preston siblings (aka the ‘Preston Punks’). He is the one with the snarky attitude who sleeps around and spends his time getting high. From the outside it seems like he’s just wasting his life away, but in reality he is deeply tortured, and is desperately searching for a way to forget memories from the past which continually torment him.
Ava is a friend of the girl that Logan is currently ‘seeing’. She moved to town a few months ago as an adventure to start a new life for herself, but things haven’t quite worked out the way she imagined and she is still figuring things out. She and Logan have met, and they had an intense dislike of each other, but at a party one night they start to look at each other differently, and that animosity turns into something different.
“What's beneath the bravado, Logan Preston?”
This isn’t a textbook romance. Sure, Logan and Ava are attracted to each other, but it’s a slow and gradual thing as they work themselves out. It’s messy, and it’s complicated by Logan and the way he is, and by things that Ava has been through, and I could feel the struggle as they work out what it is they want and then fight to figure out how to be together. And I could feel everything right along with them - the confusion and uncertainty, the passion, excitement and bliss of first love, the heartache, and the contentment that comes from finding your soul mate and creating something special together. It’s a rollercoaster and it’s full of feels, with my heart damn near breaking and then bursting with happiness as it all played out.
As they come to terms with what they are feeling and work through their issues, we get a gorgeous love story that is sweet, sexy, full of fun moments, and beautifully emotional as Logan falls hard for the first time in his life. But despite the happiness that they have found together, there are demons right beneath the surface, and omg, the feeeeeeels! My heart shattered. I literally ached as I read with tears streaming down my face, and all I wanted to do was take these characters in my arms and hold them. It’s not easy to read, but I thought the way it was written was realistic - raw, intense and real, and I could feel the torment as Logan and Ava were put to the test in ways the never could have imagined.
And so much more than just Logan and Ava, this is a story about family. Logan’s dad and his siblings all play a big part, and I loved seeing the dynamics at play within the family, as well as seeing the stories progress for the characters from this and the More Than series. The big surprise in this book was Lachlan - the youngest Preston is only 9 years old, but he has a huge part to play in this story. I loved the way his relationships with Logan and Ava were explored, and his impact on them, and the story, is profound and so, so gorgeous.
Jay McLean has done a wonderful job writing this book. There are moments in the story that are so intense and meaningful, I actually held my breath while reading. Two moments in particular I think will be permanently etched on my brain – small moments that are beautifully written and that mean EVERYTHING, and they brought the waterworks once again.
Overall, this is a beautifully written, emotional, angsty, heartbreaking but ultimately healing story. The romance is gorgeous, the family dynamics are spot-on, and I loved Logan and Ava’s journey.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 23, 2022So, I loved most of this!
Not 5 stars because a few things:
These two were kids. Like 18/19, yet they acted much older. Wasn't realistic. She was 18, owned her own business, own home, etc. And their parents treated them, not like kids. Some of the things they allowed them to do...just didn't make sense. And her business, was selling stationery. A store...that sold...stationery. The same store that had zero marketing, zero online presence, yet it had people waiting outside before it opened each day, just to get Inside...to...buy...Stationery? Not believable.
The whole anger towards her mom? Didn't make sense. In the beginning it's described as a toxic relationship. Then we meet her mom and it's not toxic at all. Maybe closed off some but that's it. Then fast fwd to the end and we find out the mom withheld something to attempt to keep her daughter protected. Ummm...sounds like a mother to me. Maybe there were other ways the mom could've done some things? Sure. But Aubrey and the family essentially cut the mom off when she never was the one causing harm in the first place. Made little sense.
Ok...lastly, not 5 stars because Logan does some stuff that is kindof unforgivable. And if it is forgivable...I would expect him to have to WORK for that forgiveness from Aubrey waaaaay more. But, he holds her hand, and tadah! She's completely over alllll the mess he put her through and back on cloud nine. Don't get me wrong. Logan went through the ringer too. But just because you've been through hell and back, doesn't give you the right to put others through hell and back, too.
Overall a good book. Solid 3.5 stars. Rounding up here to 4 because it definitely does not deserve 3 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars What's beneath the bravado, Logan Preston?
This book just broke my heart. It was 5 am and I was crying so much I had to take a deep breath and stop for a few minutes so I could finish the book.
Logan is the black sheep of his family and I always wondered why.
What happened to this boy to make him so different from every Preston? We get answers to that and so much more.
This story is not only about a boy and a girl falling in love. It's about family. About doing what is right, even when it's so hard to do so. It's about open up your heart to feel. It's about letting go of the past and embrace the future. It's about healing.
HEALING AND HOPE!
Again, another masterpiece by Jay Mclean.

5.0 out of 5 stars The feels!!!
This book! I can't even describe it! I don't usually write reviews probably because I can never put how I feel about a book into words but for this one I am going to try! Bare with me...
This book was such an emotional rollercoaster. You can't help but fall in love with Logan right off the bat as he is the typical mysterious bad boy but is also hilarious and charming as well! I LOVE a hate to love romance book and this book has so much whitty, sarcastic banter that just made me laugh out loud. This book also had that slow burn romance that you can't help but devour.
On the heavier side of things this book also deals with a lot of heavy issues and real life hurt and healing so you honestly get a bit of everything, which is what makes this book truly amazing and unlike any other.
Honestly, just do yourself a favour and read this book along with all of Jay's books. I am biased in this review as she is my favourite all time author but this is definitely one of her best books yet (and she has written. ALOT. of amazing books).
Lastly what I loved about this book, and is also probably one of the main reasons why I loved this book so much was it gave readers an amazing ending to Lucy and Cameron's story. I won't give any spoilers away but I would recommend reading More Than Forever and the entire More Than series and Lucas because I feel like you can't love and appreciate the entire More gang andPreston family properly and truly see how amazing they are if you don't read those books first.
Sorry if that was a poop review.
Just read the book for yourself and you'll see what I was somewhat trying to say in my review haha

5.0 out of 5 stars Great intense read that leaves you wanting more from the Preston boys
Well that was intense! I’m 10 months into my maternity leave and this pregnancy flipped me from reading around 3 books a week, to having no interest in reading at all! None. Try as I might, I just couldn’t get into any books. Now, I’d seen Jay had released Logan a while ago, but didn’t want to attempt a read whilst in my book funk - I really enjoy her books and quite frankly didn’t want to ruin it by only paying half attention. I’m not sure what happened this week, but I clicked on the 30th and had it read by the next day. One of the reasons I enjoy this author’s books is that she isn’t repetitive in the narrative, she doesn’t go over the same things 10 times. The story flows and that’s what makes it a great read that tugs at your heart strings and always leaves you wanting more. In a good, hurry up and roll the next book out way! I tend to start these books thinking I won’t fall for this character as much as the others - I fail every time. A great read, that has you rooting for the characters and waiting impatiently for more from the Preston Punks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ugly. Cry
Oh. My. I have tears and snot and a blotchy face. Pretty sure I've cried so much the salt is drying on my face.
So. When I started reading, I wondered if I could finish because the drug thing just isn't for me. We all have hard passes on book topics and drug use is mine.
But I kept going because Jay is a freaking word wizard and I've fallen in love with the Preston's so hard, and I was not sorry.
I knew what was coming, felt it in my bones, but how it came out, how it went down, it wrecked me!
This book has so much feeling, I think I'm going to have to take a minute to breathe. And Tom! How is Tom okay, surely he can't take much more happening to his family... To his kids.
I'm not going to say much more about the actual story, they're not the type of reviews I write. I will say that I love how Jay writes, almost poetic, definitely romantic of the highest order (exactly how I love my books).
Another beautifully put together story that hold all the parts of a re-read romance book. That last chapter before the epilogue was EVERYTHING.
I'm going to go clean my snot, dry my eyes and swoon into bed. Sigh. What a book!
