I fight, but there’s no escaping the king in his kingdom...

About the author

Rina Kent is a New York Times, USA Today, and #1 bestselling author of all things dark romance.
Better known for writing unapologetic anti-heroes and villains, Rina weaves tales of characters you shouldn’t fall for but inevitably do. Her stories are laced with a touch of darkness, a splash of angst, and just the right amount of unhealthy intensity.
When she’s not busy plotting mayhem for her ever-expanding Rina verse, she leads a private life in London, travels, and pampers her cats in true Cat Lady fashion.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 1 July 2022As the title suggests, Rina's books just keep getting better than the one before it. I
I started with Cruel King and followed the books from there!!
Just when you think....
"Yeah it won't get any better than this, there's no way she can do it again!!"
That's your thought process and an assumption quickly dispelled, the second you start on her next book, within the RES world, and now following on with Jonathan and Aurora!!
After all she's dealt such sensitive issues, through the RES world and did so with such grace, forethought, empathy and above all, extreme care and due sensitivity, that surely there cannot be anything else with which to tackle in such an intense manner!! BUT if you too thought that, then I'm afraid, we were both wrong!!
This book...yes this must be about the fourth time in saying this...is definitely her best work yet!!
The passion is there undoubtedly, yet it's the undercurrent of the story line, that packs the pages with a monumental size punch, and it's a punch you'll be glad to receive!!
If you want a mediocre book, then I'm afraid this book is NOT for you. But if you want a book that you'll read in one sitting...and then, begrudgingly have to take a quick break from the next book so as to do the review....then trust me friend, this book IS for you!!
As my friend would say....

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 31 August 2024I flew through this book as it was so good.
I knew there was always some underlying mystery with the characters and boy was I right. Well, I don’t know how much yet but after the ending, there’s a whole load of stuff to be unraveled.
Really great book.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 22 June 2024⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ soo good I can't wait to read the second book x I love Jonathan and aurora❤️. Cant wait to read more about them. I feel bad for Aiden and Alicia relationship and how he feels about the loss of his mom. 😭I can't wait to find more about her and the meaning of the video aurora gets sent.
🌶🌶🌶+
I totally recommend this book!🔥
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 November 2023overall i liked it. the only issue i have was that johnathon was a bit too domineering for me/controlling. even though aurora stood up for herself most of the time it was a tad bit off putting. it lacked build up and connection before the smut started. but the flow and style of writing was good. i would get the next book to see what happens.

Reign of a King is the first book in Rina Kent's Kingdom Duet.
It's a Dark Romance based in the King's World.
Johnathan is Aiden's Dad from the Royal Elite Series and features in their books too.
Aurora is determined to save her company, she goes to a wedding with a friend and unexpectedly bumps into Johnathan King-Her dead sister's husband!! Johnathan goes after her and becomes involved in her business. Aurora is hiding from her past and trying to find out what happened to her sister. Shocking secrets are exposed that leave her reeling and scared, all the while having to deal with Johnathan and his 'ways.'
The plot was captivating, pulling you into the King's world, a world I didn't want to leave.
Johnathan is for sure my favorite, an alpha male who is a business tycoon and isn't afraid to go after what he wants.
If you like Dark Romance, then this is for you. A plot full of mystery, spice, and secrets.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 August 2024I didn't think I would like reading about Jonathan King but I have actually really enjoyed this book. I really hope they get their happy ever after so I'm looking forward to the next installment and am very glad I was able to read the book in one day.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 August 2024Aurora's story is very intense and good with connections and hidden truths. She's a survivor, a runner and a visionary.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 February 2024I have to say this is definitely a very interesting book with a different plot compared to the others in the series. I’m curious on what Aurora has to hide and can’t wait to see what Jonathan will do.

5.0 out of 5 stars Part 1 of 2 (Duet) Both parts available - Highly recommend!
Part 1 of 2
⛔️ Contains subject matter that may be a trigger or offensive to some including adult language, steamy adult intimate scenes (BDSM acts of dominance / submission, restraints, spanking for punishment and pleasure, etc.), themes of mental illness (anxiety, depression, suicide, maybe bipolar and/or schizophrenia) and violence.
Contains some grammatical issues but they were easy to interpret. I mention it for those that are potentially like me. A movie, for lack of a better term, plays in my mind while reading. When a grammatical issue occurs, or incorrect detail related to the existing storyline plot, then it interrupts the “movie.”
Like the previous stories I have read by Rina Kent, the storyline, characters, and world building is superb. The way the story unfolds draws a reader into it quickly, and then before you know it, this part is over and you can’t wait to begin the next.
Apparently part of the background plays out in another story, involving Aiden and Elsa, the son and daughter-in-law of Jonathan and nephew of Aurora. I haven’t read it yet, but because Rina Kent covered enough of the background it was great without it. I can only imagine that the story universe would have been even more complete had I completed it.
Aurora needs to find a way to save her company that she built with her best friend after their accountant embezzled all of their funds. She needs to meet and present a business case to a man that looks for small companies to invest in, Ethan, so she decides to take a chance for the first time in 11 years. She doesn’t want to imagine what will happen if she gets caught by him, but she has to try so she finagles an invitation to the wedding of her nephew.
Aiden doesn’t know that she exists, but she can’t think of that right now. She sees her opportunity to be introduced to Ethan and present her case, but before she can Aiden spots her and thinks she is his mother. She pretends that she doesn’t know who he is talking about, then she sees him … Jonathan.
She makes her way to Ethan, who is speaking with her date about her company. Ethan sounds interested and wants to speak more about the opportunity. Then HE is there … Aurora doesn’t acknowledge him. She takes the first chance she gets to leave and make her way to her car. Then before she can get in it, a hand slams the door shut. Jonathan has followed her and he is out for blood …

3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I was hoping
⭐ 3,25/5
🌶️ 1,75/5
I was very curious to read Jonathan King's story after his brief appearances in the Royal Elite series books. His personality makes you curious about him and I was really looking forward to starting his bilogy, but it wasn't what I expected.
Don't get me wrong it's not a bad book, I really don't think there's a RK book I won't like but after reading the Royal Elite series this book felt very basic and lacking a lot of substance.
I thought that since it wasn't a single book, the relationship between Aurora and Jonathan was going to progress more slowly and that it wasn't going to be so sexual, something that for the first time in a long time I didn't like very much.
Then, Jonathan's personality, he is so alpha male but not in a good way really, I like MMCs that are possessive but he is too ‘Aurora, my property, my body, unga unga’. And I do not know how I feel about the dob-sum relationship they have, there is something that doesn't sit quite well with me.
I'm really more intrigued by the part of the plot involving the mysterious tapes Aurora receives and everything that happened in her past than I am with the love story between her and Jonathan.
Then there's the fact that Aurora is the younger sister of Alicia, Jonathan's former wife and Aiden's mother, and to top it all, she's dead. It seems a bit strange to me.
Although there were quite a few things that didn't meet my expectations, it's still a book that I enjoyed reading and I had a good time, I'm looking forward to find out what happens in the second one.

1.0 out of 5 stars Spank you!
Spanking, spanking and spanking. It was TOO MUCH that I had to skip these parts. Aurora is a typical character, deluded…she thinks she doesn’t, have choice in the matter but to get laid by her brother in law. Lacks dignity, self pride and self respect. Jonathan just likes to spank.
I expected more but this was disappointing.
