From New York Times Bestseller and BookTok sensation Rina Kent comes a captivating age-gap billionaire romance filled with power, desire, and betrayal.
Nothing is fair in war.
Jonathan King is every bit his last name.
Powerful. Untouchable. Corrupted.
He’s also my dead sister’s husband and way older than me.
When I first met him as a clueless child, I thought he was a god.
Now, I have to confront that god to protect my business from his ruthless grip.
Little did I know that declaring a war on the king will cost me everything.
When Jonathan covets something, he doesn’t only win, he conquers.
Now, he has his sights on me.
He wants to consume not only my body, but also my heart and my soul.
I fight, but there’s no escaping the king in his kingdom...
Reign of a King is the first part of a duet.

⛔️ Contains subject matter that may be a trigger or offensive to some including adult language, steamy adult intimate scenes (BDSM acts of dominance / submission, restraints, spanking for punishment and pleasure, etc.), themes of mental illness (anxiety, depression, suicide, maybe bipolar and/or schizophrenia) and violence.
Contains some grammatical issues but they were easy to interpret. I mention it for those that are potentially like me. A movie, for lack of a better term, plays in my mind while reading. When a grammatical issue occurs, or incorrect detail related to the existing storyline plot, then it interrupts the “movie.”
Like the previous stories I have read by Rina Kent, the storyline, characters, and world building is superb. The way the story unfolds draws a reader into it quickly, and then before you know it, this part is over and you can’t wait to begin the next.
Apparently part of the background plays out in another story, involving Aiden and Elsa, the son and daughter-in-law of Jonathan and nephew of Aurora. I haven’t read it yet, but because Rina Kent covered enough of the background it was great without it. I can only imagine that the story universe would have been even more complete had I completed it.
Aurora needs to find a way to save her company that she built with her best friend after their accountant embezzled all of their funds. She needs to meet and present a business case to a man that looks for small companies to invest in, Ethan, so she decides to take a chance for the first time in 11 years. She doesn’t want to imagine what will happen if she gets caught by him, but she has to try so she finagles an invitation to the wedding of her nephew.
Aiden doesn’t know that she exists, but she can’t think of that right now. She sees her opportunity to be introduced to Ethan and present her case, but before she can Aiden spots her and thinks she is his mother. She pretends that she doesn’t know who he is talking about, then she sees him … Jonathan.
She makes her way to Ethan, who is speaking with her date about her company. Ethan sounds interested and wants to speak more about the opportunity. Then HE is there … Aurora doesn’t acknowledge him. She takes the first chance she gets to leave and make her way to her car. Then before she can get in it, a hand slams the door shut. Jonathan has followed her and he is out for blood …
- Reviewed in the United States on August 10, 2023After reading the Royal Elite series and seeing how Jonathan was portrayed... I was very hesitant to pick up this duet. But at the same time, I am a sucker for the villian or morally grey MMC portrayal, so I went all in on this. I'm so freaking glad I did.
I loved this duet even more than I loved the Royal Elite series. This first book is a great intro into the full story between Jonathan and Aurora because it opens the reader up to the bare bones of this relationship... and a lot of spice. We really only get to see a small portion of relationship development in this book, but there are so many little nuggets of gold that just start to paint the picture of these two together. The development is really light, though, and does focus a lot on the spicy nature of this arrangement. This book also introduces the added layer of mystery revolving around Alicia's death that really starts to pull you in. We get glimpses into who these characters are, Aurora with her sass and her deals, and Jonathan with his possessiveness and hidden (deeply hidden) tender spot (for one singular human)....and it just made me ravenous for more. This is not the first time I have read this book, and it certainly won't be the last. That is the highest compliment I can pay to a book and its author.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 22, 2024Who knew that Daddy Jonathan was exactly what I needed ? Not me. I loved the unfolding of Aurora and Jonathan’s story, and the plot twist that left me hanging at the end! I can’t wait for the second part.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 28, 2024What a daddy 😍😍😍 this man is so wild and the book cover is helping the case and I love it this book have me so deep that my surrounding is a blurb what a rollocoaster
- Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2024The story is pretty good. Although there were bouts of up and downs for me during my read but it kept invested with the tension and “mystery” going on.
Don’t mistake me, I loved the defiant personality of Aurora at the start but not even half way through the story and she bent for Jonathan and didn’t really put up much of a fight. Her “goal” and guilt about her sister felt pushed aside cause she started focusing on her relationship with Jonathan too much—like “bargaining” to sleep on his bed or getting him to kiss her. Yeah, she felt the occasional guilt and admitted at one point that what was happening was wrong but did she put up a fight against Jonathan? Not really—well, it didn’t felt like it to me.
I’m all up for this kind of romance (the sister & ex-husband thing) but I’d like to see some fight and tension where it really feels like the MC is resisting and fighting the pull. This one just felt like it was some kind of foreplay between them 👁️👁️
I don’t even understand Jonathan. Maybe I’m just slow but his obsession to have Aurora under his “protection” didn’t really make sense, other than Aurora being Alicia’s sister and that Alicia asked him to protect her. I don’t get where he’s coming from (maybe it’s cause I’m an idiot but oh well 🤷♀️😆) and that makes me even more curious cause I need something to make sense 😭
The plot is looking good and the story pacing was okay, and I like the writing. I did get invested in the story—particularly about Aurora’s father and about the Alicia situation. I’m really interested in knowing what happened and that cliffhanger does not make sense considering all the info I have, so kind of looking forward to book 2 cause I need answers 👀
- Reviewed in the United States on February 18, 2025In the beginning, I found a the entire feud unnecessary… I still do. But Jonathan and Aurora’s relationship rectified that. I didn’t like that ending though… I hate when they make assumptions. Well, on to the next book. Apart from that, I really enjoyed this book

3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I was hoping
⭐ 3,25/5
🌶️ 1,75/5
I was very curious to read Jonathan King's story after his brief appearances in the Royal Elite series books. His personality makes you curious about him and I was really looking forward to starting his bilogy, but it wasn't what I expected.
Don't get me wrong it's not a bad book, I really don't think there's a RK book I won't like but after reading the Royal Elite series this book felt very basic and lacking a lot of substance.
I thought that since it wasn't a single book, the relationship between Aurora and Jonathan was going to progress more slowly and that it wasn't going to be so sexual, something that for the first time in a long time I didn't like very much.
Then, Jonathan's personality, he is so alpha male but not in a good way really, I like MMCs that are possessive but he is too ‘Aurora, my property, my body, unga unga’. And I do not know how I feel about the dob-sum relationship they have, there is something that doesn't sit quite well with me.
I'm really more intrigued by the part of the plot involving the mysterious tapes Aurora receives and everything that happened in her past than I am with the love story between her and Jonathan.
Then there's the fact that Aurora is the younger sister of Alicia, Jonathan's former wife and Aiden's mother, and to top it all, she's dead. It seems a bit strange to me.
Although there were quite a few things that didn't meet my expectations, it's still a book that I enjoyed reading and I had a good time, I'm looking forward to find out what happens in the second one.

1.0 out of 5 stars Spank you!
Spanking, spanking and spanking. It was TOO MUCH that I had to skip these parts. Aurora is a typical character, deluded…she thinks she doesn’t, have choice in the matter but to get laid by her brother in law. Lacks dignity, self pride and self respect. Jonathan just likes to spank.
I expected more but this was disappointing.
