Occupy City Hall demonstrator attacks journalist hours after protests turn violent

A new video shows a journalist being attacked outside City Hall on Wednesday morning — as dozens of Occupy City Hall protesters rallied outside after the City Council passed its budget, with lawmakers shifting $1 billion from the NYPD.

The video, shared on Twitter Wednesday, shows a demonstrator wrestle with someone after going after a TV crew.

It’s unclear what led to the escalation, with the video only panning to the struggle when it was already underway.

“Why are protesters in front of city hall attacking photographer and reporters if we are there to tell your story. This kind of ridiculous behavior is how messages get loss. Especially the fact, that he is genuinely a great person,” Marvin Hoffman tweeted with the video.

1010 WINS Morning Drive anchor Glenn Schuck wrote online, “Let’s get some protection for media doing our job. Local tv crew assaulted during #OccupyCityHall.”

Other demonstrators can be seen rushing to pull the attacker off the cameraman, video shows.

The dust-up came after protesters clashed with cops Wednesday morning, forcing the police to retreat.

It was not immediately clear what outlet employed the crew.

The NYPD could not be reached on whether the man had been taken into custody.
