Dear Diary,

Just messin’ with you. I don’t have time for that crap, but here’s my story.

I was finally coming clean to my best friend about how this divorced, single mom attempted to get back in the dating game...and wound up with an old flame.

Enough stalling, it was time to spill it ... ALL

Foster Montgomery was my best friend's hot younger brother. Back in high school, we used to have a thing. And by “thing,” I mean we used to mess around--behind closed doors, because apparently, that was all I was good for.

Finally, many years later, I had the chance to get my revenge. If wet dreams, steamy make-out sessions on my couch, and “naked yoga” in my living room counted as revenge, then I nailed it!

He was still keeping secrets, but this time, I planned to make it known exactly what he’d done behind those closed doors.

This was a fun read filled with steam, witty banter and so many surprises and twists.
Kam is a divorced mom with a ten year old daughter. Her cheating husband left her for his secretary and now she has reinvented herself as a private investigator. What are the chances her new target to follow is her best friends younger brother. They have a history she isn't fond of and now may be her chance to even the score.
Foster may have been misunderstood in the past and now may be his chance to redeem himself. This is a funny, sexy, sassy read .

'Foster' is a second chance Romance novel with some light hearted humour by Kristei Leigh.

Kamryn has a new job. She has been tasked by a client to find out whether her fiance has been cheating or not. Things turn interesting when she finds out that the culprit is the man who used her once.
She decides to have her revenge by proving that he has been cheating again.

This story was a funny and sassy romance for me. It was a plain tale and did not have any twists or turns , so it was a one time read for me. I would recommend this one to the contemporary romance lovers out there who love second chance Romance books!

Kamryn is a divorced mother of a 10 year old girl. She had to move on when her husband left her for his secretary, but she moved on. Her job is a private investigator and now she was just handed a new case of finding out where a womens fiancé is cheating on her. And it got really interesting when the guy is her best friends brother. The brother who used her when they were teenagers when he didn’t have a new girlfriend to entertain him. So this was the perfect opportunity to get back at him, right…

This was a funny sassy and full of twists you wouldn’t actually expect to happen. I seriously really loved Foster, he was hot and sexy and oh so dirty in the bedroom. But he was sweet as well. Kamryn was sassy and gave as good as she got. Loved her GBFF Tod, he was freaking hilarious. This story I finished in one reading and thoroughly enjoyed it

Okay…………….

So…. this was a really, REALLY weird romance novel. “Foster” is the first book I’ve read from Kristie Leigh. I’ve recently been trying to keep an open mind about authors whose work I’ve never read before, so when I read the blurb for “Foster,” I thought I’d give it a try. I’m on an older-woman-younger-man trope streak at the moment. Maybe turning 40 this year is triggering this “attraction” towards this plot line? Hahaha! I don’t know, but that’s the horse I’m currently riding on.

Just a heads up: there are spoilers ahead. Stop reading now if you want to experience “Foster” yourself.

Why the spoilers then? Welp, I didn’t know how to review this well, without telling you the parts where I just lost my mind. #sorrynotsorry You ready? Here I go.

I can relate (very loosely) to the 40yo heroine, Kamryn. Minus her divorced status and her kid. Kamryn can be crass, but that’s what I liked about her. I found, however, that her extremely long dialogues with her gay best friend and business partner (they’re Private Investigators), Todd, were, at times, unnecessary and didn’t move the story along. They’re supposed to be funny – I get it – but my sense of humor is currently missing, I suppose.

What irks me? Kamryn took on a case from a woman who claimed that she was her old nemesis, Foster’s, fiancee. The woman, Marissa, claimed that Foster was cheating on her, and wanted a P.I. to verify her suspicions. First of all, Kamryn did not verify whether or not Marissa was indeed Foster’s fiancee. She took on the case because she wanted to nail Foster’s balls to the figurative wall. Second, with her unverified knowledge that Foster was engaged, she kissed and had sex with him. Ethics be damned, right? The call of her loins and Foster’s irresistibility were driving her unforgivable actions. Thirdly, she tried to give Marissa’s money back to her, but the cheque she used had her personal home address on it. WHY a P.I. would do this – her daughter lives with her most of the time – I don’t f*cking know. Foster’s hot-and-cold actions were also inexplicable. Sure, he had excuses, ones that Kamryn easily accepted… but, seriously, this guy is also whacked. His treatment of Kamryn were a solid turn-OFF.

Oh, and the sexy scenes were hot. Too hot. Like, um… they didn’t fit the characters? Kamryn was banging her client’s supposed fiancé in all sorts of positions, using up all different holes in her body. Then, they each get off of the surface they just had sex on, put on their clothes, and say somewhat polite, very abrupt, and terse goodbyes. LOL! I’m seriously, like, WTH is going on?!

Then, at around the 50% mark, the book suddenly ends with Marissa supposedly getting caught in the act of vandalizing Kamryn’s house. Following that, we get an EPILOGUE?!?!?

WTF.

Immediately after that, Ms. Leigh calls out “psyche!” half-way through, and continues Foster and Kamryn’s story.

By this point, I’m so goddamned confused.

Did I mention that almost everyone in the book is a redhead? I thought natural redheads are rarer than blondes or brunettes? Hmmm... anyway....

In the 2nd half of "Foster," all mentions of psychotic Marissa are gone. Instead, we see Foster, Kamryn, and her best buds, Todd and Foster’s sister, Dana, all acting like teenagers. Oh, and Foster is interacting with Kam’s daughter, but he’s only Kam’s “friend.” How stupid is this?!?! Tweens these days are exposed to so much that simply explaining away Foster as mom’s friend is showing how immature both the MCs are. The “are we dating/not dating?” thing is just stupid. Kamryn’s 40. A P.I., for crying out loud. I’m disappointed. Is it obvious yet?

Part two of “Foster” was like a second book, but… I don’t know… it seems completely chopped up from the first. I think Ms. Leigh had two different plot lines for “Foster,” and couldn’t decide which to take, so she mashed them together. I enjoyed the hot, steamy scenes she wrote, so long as I conveniently forget that Kamryn’s ethics and decision-making process are highly questionable. Other than those, I’m still scratching my head over what I just read.

ARC Review

Kamryn is given a case of finding out if her client’s fiancé is cheating on her and that case reconnects her with Foster, a guy she met in high-school. She hates him but soon it becomes something more, love.
Foster is an handsome, confident man who has feelings for Kam.
Their attraction is undeniable and in no time sparks fly between them.

Foster was such a joyful book to read. It was sweet, funny and perfectly written.

This book made me really angry. The way Kamryn handled the situation with Foster was really unprofessional and disrespectful to Marissa. What happened in highschool shouldn’t matter, she’s an adult now and should of taken the high road. I’m glad they got their HEA but I feel it could of been done differently. I did really love the style of writing and the banter between characters in this book. Todd was most fave character. I just loved his personality and how he kept Kam in line. And the steam factor was off the charts!!!

Foster by Kristie Leigh
RomCom Standalone
Full disclosure: I know Kristie Leigh personally. While I can usually separate my friendship from my reviews, there are a few women that I knew before I read their books and then felt their personality come through the main character so much that I feel like I would be judging the author and not the book. That is very much the case with Foster by Kristi Leigh. I’m going to do my best to review it fairly, but I am debating on including a star rating.

Foster started with an introduction that confused me. I thought it was Kristie writing about herself, but as it went on, I realized it was Kam, the heroine, who is 40, divorced, and shares custody of her teenage daughter. It was a really weird way to start a book and wasn’t necessary. All the stuff told to us in the introduction could have been sprinkled into the first chapter with the same effect. If she wasn’t a friend, I might have DNFd before I finished the intro because I thought the whole book would be told like that.

BUT I’M SO GLAD I CONTINUED.

Once the actual book started, it was so much better! Kam is sassy, snarky, and honestly a little obnoxious, but that worked for her. She is a private investigator with her gay best friend and when she got a job investigating a cheating fiancee, she jumped at the chance to get back at the guy who, it turns out, is her best friend’s little brother who secretly used her in high school.

The story itself kept me involved from start to finish. Not once did I want to put it aside for some TV, but it sometimes felt like a new author who was trying a bit too hard. I still had fun reading it. I love snarky and obnoxious friendships where you call each other whores, but it didn’t always feel natural for the 40-year-old heroine.

It was also clear right from the start that she still wanted Foster, despite her anger.
"He could toss me around a room and I’d like it.
He stuck out like a beacon in the night. His tan skin glistened, and even from afar, I could see the beads of sweat trickle down his arms into the dips of his muscles, as if tracing the lines for my viewing pleasure."

When these two gave in to their desires, HOLY HELL. I wasn’t expecting this amount of heat from this light romantic comedy!

Likes:

•I loved the story. It was unique and fun.
•Foster is so awesome.
•Holy hell, there was some HOT sex. Like hotter than you’d expect!
•A forty-plus heroine.
•I love the enemies-to-lovers banter.
•It was a good first book (she has released others but this was her first).
•There were some really funny moments that made me snort-laugh.
•It was a fast read that made me forget everything else.

Dislikes:

•The introduction threw me off. Was it about the author or character? It was just a weird storyteller tone, telling us the background of the story we are about to read. I was worried the whole book would be like that.
•Too many “girl slangs”.
•It was like a checklist of all romcom features: gay best friend…check, trash-talking with friends…check, desperately horny heroine…check.
•Kam is the worst PI ever.
•Did everyone have red hair? (or maybe it just being unique, it stuck out)
•Were these two books made into one?

The Down & Dirty:
Make sure you read past the introduction because once the book actually starts, it’s a fun, snarky, sassy, and very sexy read. A few things felt like they were from a rom-com textbook, but the story itself was unique and real and I loved Foster. Because I know the author, I am going to hold back on starring this one because I can't tell how much I am influenced by feeling like I know the main character. But if you like a snarky heroine, Foster by Kristie Leigh may be one to try.

Foster is not your standard romance novel, with a cute meeting, followed by chemistry, angst and drama and then HEA. It's layout is slightly different, and I'm not really sure what to make of it.

Kamryn is a divorced single mum, who has her own private investigation firm. She is finally ready to get back into the dating game when a prospective client contacts her about finding out if her fiancé is cheating, and who should be the mark but her best friend’s younger brother Foster, who Kam had a secret fling with in high school. Desperate for revenge after the way he treated her, she takes the case, determined to prove he’s a cheat. But what she doesn’t predict is the way he’ll sweep her off her feet and that the attraction between them from all those years ago is still there. Kam is stuck in a dilemma, prove to her client Foster is cheating, with her, or walk away from the only man who could make her happy? But there are other secrets at play, which when revealed will turn the whole situation on its head. Will Kam and Foster have a future?

There was something about this story that just didn’t flow for me. I think it may have been the disjointed writing style, which did grow on me once I got a handle on the author’s style, but it still felt like she had a load of plot points she wanted to include so just threw them all in. I have to say it’s the most bizarre layout of a book, with an epilogue in the middle (?!) and then no mention of the previous drama from ‘part 1’ ever again. I didn’t feel any kind of connection to the characters, and they all felt fairly one dimensional.

Kamryn acted like a naïve girl in her twenties, not a forty-year-old single mum. She wasn’t very likable to begin with, and although her personality slowly grew on me, I wasn’t wowed by her. I didn’t like how she so easily slept with Foster, when she knew he was her client’s fiancé, her moral compass seemed way off. I think I would’ve been slightly more okay with it if they had been childhood sweethearts, but they just messed around in high school, it was never anything serious. She did it so easily, without thinking about the unprofessionalism or the fact it was just plain wrong, it was almost like she thought she had the right because of their history and her need for revenge. Foster as a character too was fairly underdeveloped, his actions in high school were understandable because he was a 16-year-old boy, so I felt a bit bad for him that Kam was ready to get her revenge so eagerly. I really admired him taking a step back though and saying she needed to have some time alone to learn about herself after being in a relationship for so long, but he was still there for her as a friend.

The whole relationship felt very insta-lust and not like love, there was no development of a deeper connection between them. Don’t get me wrong, they were insanely hot together, the scenes in the bedroom were so steamy, but they never opened up to each other. I would’ve liked to see a scene where Kam talked to Foster about her divorce, or what they did in their time apart, or him just spending time with her and her daughter doing normal day to day things, but we never see any of that. Kam’s daughter Charlie seemed to flit in and out of the story too, and seemed to always be at a sleepover at convenient moments…

What I did enjoy was Kam’s friendship with Todd, he was my favourite character, he seemed the sanest of the group and kept Kam in line. The whole group of friends did give off the impression they were much younger than they were meant to be, and I liked that because they were still having fun, but their actions just didn’t really fit the way they were described. I would say if you want a quick, easy and steamy read, then Foster is the book for you, I’m sure other readers will find the quirkiness of Kristie’s writing more enjoyable than I did overall!

This was an enjoyable, fun read. It’s funny, heartwarming, and hot. Kamryn is sassy, funny and sarcastic. Foster is sweet and hot. They’ll both frustrate you a little while reading the book but in the end it was worth it. I loved Todd, Kamryn’s gay best friend and business partner. He left me in stitches quite a few times throughout the book. The story had some twists to it. This is a first time read from this author, but I’ll be looking for more to of their books to add to my reading list.

Kamryn and Foster have known each other since they were kids. Fosters older sister Dana is Kamryn’s best friend. They had an on again off again thing in high school that really hurt Kamryn and she ends up hating Foster and avoiding him for years. Fast forward to present day, Kamryn’s divorced and raising her daughter. She own’s her own PI business and shares custody of her daughter with her ex. She gets a job from a client that who wants to find out if her fiancé is cheating on her. Surprise, surprise the face and name that pops up is none other then Foster. Kamryn takes the jobbing figuring it’s her way of revenge on what he did in high school but there’s a slight problem, Kamryn can’t seem to keep her hands to herself and neither can Foster. Kamryn’s confused. What should she do? Is Foster actually engaged?

Okay, Foster was my first book by Kristie Leigh and it was definitely a funny read with steamy scenes.

Kamryn is in her 40's, divorced, she has a daughter with her ex and is working as PI with her bestie Todd.
One day she became a new case. She has to investigate if the fiancée of her client is cheating. It's Foster - the little brother of her other Bestie, Dana, she grew up with.
They had a secret past with more downs than ups.
She thought, that she can finally get even with him. Will she succeed?
Or are the old feelings catching up mixed with new ones?

I really don't know how she is able to pay her bills with the ways as she investigates. I think she was blindsided by the possibility of a revenge but still. She made no background checks. If she would have done it, she would've seen that some thing's weren't adding up.
I also couldn't connect with the h at first and thought she was a bit arrogant. But she is not my favorite heroine and I'd like to know more about Foster's POV, because I really liked him.

Another favorite character of mine was Todd. I've always been looking forward to him and want his book. Will he become happy with man bun Jeff? I'm really curious.

This book just wasn't it for me when I'm looking forward to another character to appear, but I really do like the writing.
Maybe this one is it for you.

Foster by Kristie Leigh was an EXPERIENCE to read and devour!

Oh goodness, Kamryn is a hoot! Feisty and fierce and brash and telling it like it is. Oh Kam, sweet Kam, trying to protect herself, trying to do the right thing, and things just not always turning out how she wanted nor expected them to. Also, we could all use a Dana for sure! And a Todd, just saying! And Charlie is too cute!

Foster is something else! Tall, handsome, attitude and confidence, and blowing hot and cold, and full of layers. He's got a lot of depth to him, and given the chance, he just wants what would make him happy, which is to make his love happy.

Their chemistry is combustible, but the miscommunications and misconceptions really take you for a spin, and the question becomes, are the SHMEKSHAY times, and the pure moments of honesty enough?

This story was juicy, all of the details and story twists and turns and the shared history really taking you on an emotional rollercoaster ride of a journey that is thoroughly enjoyable. I know you'll fall in love with Foster, just like Kam has, just like I have!

Straight up, this book was delightful! I was laughing out loud at our irreverent heroine, who was a hoot from the first page. She's got a dramatic employee, an adorable daughter, and a BFF who is the H of the book's sister. Hmmm, things could get complicated.

Kamryn is divorced, doing the single mom thing and running her own PI business. That business is what leads her back to an old acquaintance, Foster. There is a history there, but to go into detail would be spoilers. But she ends up tailing him to discover things, and the comedy ensues. Let's just say the scene in the gym is one of my favorites.

Assumptions made years ago cause miscommunication and trouble that Foster and Kam have to work through. The question is, is Kam ready and willing to realize some things and take a chance with Foster? Our story becomes heartwarming, sweet, and genuinely makes Foster a wonderful romantic comedy.

Kam is a single mother to a 10 year old daughter after her husband ran off with his secretary. She's reinvented herself into a PI, which I thought was cool but she didn't seem very good at it in my eyes since her newest case crossed the line of professionalism to immature in my eyes. See, she was hired to find out if someone's fiance was cheating on them, and to make things worse, it was the guy back in high school who used her, so instead of being professional, she decided to get back at him. It doesn't take them long to start indulging in sexy times, (does this sound right to you), and while they were hot, I couldn't get past the reasons why she shouldn't be doing this. Luckily, there was humor in this story with secondaries trying to steal the show, so I didn't stay in the anger the whole time. Remember, this is only my opinion, and you shouldn't go with it, instead decide for yourselves by hitting those one click buttons!

I enjoyed Kristie Leigh's "Foster," a funny, silly, fast-paced read, and would recommend it for all fans of romantic comedy.

There was a ton of steam between main characters Kamryn and Foster, and while I didn't find their emotional connection to be quite as well-developed as the physical one, they clearly made each other happy, which is all that really matters in the end. Foster's relationship with Kamryn's daughter Charlie was very cute, and Kamryn definitely had her hands full when the two of them teamed up against her!

The book's secondary characters were also a lot of fun, particularly Kamryn's BFFs Dana (who was also Foster's sister) and Todd (who was also Kamryn's business partner). I have to say, though, that they all acted very immaturely for their ages, and Kamryn and Todd didn't seem to be very good private investigators. They almost never worked because they were too busy hanging out by the pool with drinks, and they were very easily distracted by cute guys. That said, they were awfully funny together, and Todd's potty mouth and pithy observations made me laugh more than once.

Overall, "Foster" was a fun read with plenty of steam. I look forward to checking out more of Kristie Leigh's books in the future.

Kamryn James gets a divorce from her cheater husband, now she is a single mom to Charlie. This story actually starts off differently; Kam and Dana, her BFF meet up for coffee. Kam shares her dating experiences. One date hits closer to home, Dana's brother Foster. Kam and Foster had an on/off again relationship on high school that nobody knew about. Move forward to now and Kam is divorced and happens to see Foster in her neighborhood. He makes the first move, but Kam is hesitant to move forward with him. They do a have history, and that history scares her. Not to mention the ex wasnt the best. Now Foster has his work cut out for him, will be succeed? Be prepared to laugh out loud and some surprises from Ms. Leigh along the way.

This book was blooming brilliant, I could not put it down and I smiled the whole way through.

It was so funny but also heartwarming, it was filled with wit and don’t forget the steam, it had bucketloads of it and it all just made sense with the storyline.

I absolutely adored Foster, he was just everything you want in a guy, caring, loyal and HOT!! and Kamryn was awesome, she was a strong sassy independent woman and loved by everyone.

The characters in this book were great, all so relatable in a way I could totally see myself in Shenanigans with them dancing the night away. (Funny as I grew up going to a bar of the same name)

Great quick fun easy read.

I have read this author before and never been disappointed.

Highly recommend ❤️

Kamryn thought she had it all figured out until she didn’t. When her marriage comes to an end she picks up the pieces. Starting her own business as a PI. Kamryn is offered a case and the person she is set out to get information on is non other than Foster Montgomery, her best friends little brother. Growing up they sorta had a little something going on but at every turn he acted like she was nothing, she’s a bit of a scorned woman. Coming face to face with her past wasn’t as easy of a task as she thought it would be.
This book is jam packed with all the feels. A life lesson, sometimes things aren’t always as they seem.

Foster was a fun second-chance romance with a lot of humor and heart. Foster is the little brother of Kamryn’s best friend. Through the years, Foster and Kamryn have had a love/hate relationship through the years and when they reunite after several years, the attraction hasn’t died.

These two were fun together. They had a lot of miscommunication that led to hurt feelings, but they cared enough to keep fighting. The chemistry between them was off the charts and their love scenes were HOT.

This was a fast, flirty, and light read that’s perfect way to while away an afternoon. Foster was a delightful diversion.

Kamryn is a divorcee and a single mom to a 10-year old daughter, and her job is as a private investigator. When she is given a new case, it is to find out is her client fiancé is cheating on her. Surprise, surprise, Foster who is her best friend’s younger brother, is the person she is investigating. Foster and Kamryn have a history as he is her ex from high school, and she is now out for revenge. This is a well written 2nd chance romance which is light-hearted, humorous, entertaining, and with secrets, twists, and witty banter. I look forward to reading more from this author whose work I recommend for all.

🎉🎉Foster by @kristieleigh is LIVE🎉🎉

I really enjoyed this book! Foster was a breath of fresh air on a fun, second chance novel!

Kamryn was everything I want a newly single mom to be. She was a hot mess at times, loving to her kiddo, and real about her situation.

Enter Foster, the “could have been” best friend’s brother from Kam’s past. I loved him. He was attentive, hot, and loving!!!

This book had everything. I loved how Foster interacted with Kam’s kiddo and was also willing to navigate all that comes with dating a single parent, who has the craziest besties, and also some crazy clients!!

Definitely recommend if you’re interested in a down to earth, sweet rom-com!

Kam finds herself a divorced single mom at 40. A private investigator now, she takes a new client, only to find out that the subject is her best friend's younger brother. She and Foster have history. So much hilarity in this book, and some unexpected twists in the story. There's a host of supporting characters, including Kam's daughter Charlie (too smart for her own good!), her best friend Dana, and her partner Todd, who's fun and totally crazy. I'm so glad I had the chance to read this book; it was so much fun!

Foster is a stand-alone 2nd chance story; Leigh is a new to me author and I couldn’t wait to dive in.

Kamryn is a divorced single mother running her own business; when her new subject is none other than an old flame, she can’t help but get excited at the thought of getting a little revenge from all those years ago.

I personally enjoyed Foster, I love a 2nd chance at love story; Kamryn and Foster’s chemistry is undeniable. I cannot wait to read more from Leigh in the future.

So this is my first read from this author so I had no idea what to expect and to be honest with you I was pleasantly surprised. This is a beautifully well written story about a couple with a bad habit of not communicating. Having a secret relationship when they were younger losing touch and then the crazy brought them back together. I like how it’s split into two parts and I cannot wait to see if Todd and Sadie get their own stories in the future. The relationship that blossoms between Foster, Kami and her daughter is beautiful

Great

Kamryn and Foster have a connection he's her best friends little brother and they secretly had a hot kiss years ago where Foster treated her horribly afterwards. Now years later Kamryn is a private investigator who's divorced and single mom. Foster is the owner of a landscape construction company. They cross paths again when Kamryn is hired to investigate him by his fiancé for possible cheating. But what will happen when the old kiss comes back into to play? What will happen with the fiancé? Will there be a HEA?

This was the sweetest story! Kam is a divorced mom with a teenage daughter. She's navigating life on her own and seems to be doing great. She's a private investigator and her business partner, Todd, is a hoot! When Kam gets a new case that involves an old flame all bets are off. Foster is younger than Kam and happens to be her best friend's little brother. Sparks fly when they cross paths again and he's determined to win her. This book is ALL kinds of steamy! But in the end, Foster is a sweetheart of a story that's very true-to-life. You'll fall in love with this romantic comedy! 4 stars

There are so many layers to this book that you really have to concentrate to take it all in. It starts out really slow. Kami is independent and strong but still an insecure teenager in some ways. Foster hardworking but sometimes seems is just trying to get through the day to day. The writing is deep and seems to have hidden meaning in so many ways. The secondary characters are fun and help make the book what it is. I like Todd he is no nonesense and tells it like it is.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Foster
Kristie Leigh
Kamryn, a forty something divorced mum of one and her best friends brother Foster Montgomery. The man she was hired to investigate, the boy who crushed her teenage heart, her enemy.
Wow, humour abounds in the witty banter and a heart attack moment half way through, well played Ms Leigh! A steamy, at times, rom-com enemies to lovers, best friends brother, second chance romance.
This was the first book I have read from this author and it exceeded expectations!
I received an arc of this book.
