Torn Apart: a New Adult Why Choose Romance (Torn and Bound Duet Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 2,006 ratings

From USA Today bestselling author K Webster and Nikki Ash comes Torn Apart: an angsty, new adult, why choose romance.

I’ve spent the past three years in college terrorizing the dean, also known as my father.
I’m everything he hates.

Troublemaker.
Slacker.
Gay.

But I’m only getting started.
I’m about to make Dad really proud with my newest life choices…

I fall for my best friend, Mia, who’s a freaking chick.
I’m dying to make out with my enemy, dude bro Brayden.
And best of all, I want to bone my new roomie, Drew, who happens to also be the school’s new hockey coach.

Senior year’s great.
I’m still the world’s worst human.
I’ve made all the wrong decisions, and when Dad gets wind of my newest mess, he might actually disown me this time.

But I can’t stop.
I don’t want to stop.

In typical Ashton Carter fashion, I wreck my life in the worst possible way.
It isn’t until it’s all torn apart, I realize I have a problem.
Me.

Authors’ note: Torn Apart is a full-length mature, new adult, why choose romance between friends to lovers, enemies to lovers, with a bit of taboo thrown in. This story contains MF/MFMM/MM scenes. It’s the first book in the Torn and Bound duet and ends with a cliffhanger.

Review

Torn Apart was an angst lovers wet dream! The sexual tension was palpable and jumped off the page! I absolutely adored all four of these characters, and I am waiting with bated breath for Bound Together. - Tabitha, Goodreads reviewer

Torn Apart is a masterpiece of sexual tension and emotional angst about nebulous relationship dynamics and the complicated, and limiting, ways we seek to define ourselves. I don't know if I've ever read anything like this- and I absolutely loved it! This is a book you read cover to cover in one sitting.- Romantic Rush Blog

Torn Apart is a highly entertaining slow burn, taking readers through the process of deep character development. We learn about the struggles each character faces, and the love and hate they inflict on themselves and each other while navigating their hearts and their lives. I could not put this book down and finished in a day. - Laurie, Goodreads reviewer

I loved this novel ! It had me completely engrossed from the very beginning to the point that I literally couldn't put it down. It's angsty, addictive and a little dramatic, with high amounts of sexual tension and a little humour! I easily fell in love with each and everyone of the characters and I cannot wait for the next novel in this duet. - My Little Booktopia Blog

Hello you beautiful, angsty, slow burning piece of amazingness!! This is an emotional read with a cliffy that leaves you torn apart (see what I did there? lol) and begging for more.- Tasha, Goodreads reviewer

This story is popping with all the feels of a soap opera but so good you can't look away. Ashton is determined to keep his father, the dean of his school, upset with his choices in life. Ashton is loud, proudly gay and attracted to his best friend Mia. He is also into his enemy Brayden and the coach of the hockey team Drew. Get ready for a roller coaster ride! I can't wait for the next book to see what will happen with this group.

I’m fairly new to “why choose romance” sometimes also known as a reverse har*m or poly romance. But I really enjoyed this book. It was k*nky AF. I loved how down and dirty it was. These characters were completely fleshed out and you could see that they knew what they wanted. I know there is a bit of a controversy when people say they experiment se*ually but this is one instance where it actually helped to make decisions. Relationships are complicated, friends and histories all carry a weight.
This book also dealt with family dynamics, the way they hurt and the way they bind you. Ash’s parents don’t always feel there, money can’t seem to buy them happiness but they sure try to. Mia’s mother is obsessed with herself and her career, her dad hasn’t divorced her despite the way she treats their daughter. Bray pulled away from his supportive parents due to guilt. I can’t wait to read the sequel!

I ain't going to lie, though. I have been wanting to read this book for the past few months. However, I struggled each time I would try to start the book and had a little bit harder time getting into the book. I made myself finally sit down and read past the first couple of chapters, and I started to fall in love with the characters and the plot of the story. I really loved this book, and I would not mind reading it again.

This book pulled me along, and each character has their own struggles of what they are trying to deal with. Mia, Ashton, Drew, and Brayden all face different challenges while trying to find love with each other and figure out their dynamics. Each character is unique and form their own kind of relationship with each other. The first book does leave a cliffhanger, but it was a very fantastic read.

Want something that takes you through a rollercoaster of emotions? Then this is the book for you. This book is full of tension and anguish. The book does contain MM, MFMM, and MF moments. Also, this first book in the duet ends in a cliffhanger.

For the first time in a long time, none of the main characters annoy me.

I absolutely love all four of them equally, though something about Ashton has my heart bearing intensely. Maybe Drew too lol.

I cannot wait for the rest of the series.

I’m so torn on my rating folks! This is some damn good writing lemme tell you. I was hooked instantly and could not, would not put this down. I loved every single thing about this story. So refreshing. I love a good RH. At first I thought this was going to be the Ashton show, but it’s so much more. These ladies gave us so much more. Because it’s more than just Aston the openly gay son of the university’s dean and his spoiled personality. All four main characters are weaved together so seamlessly. Mia his best friend who’s parents are very lacking in anything other than fiscally and even that has strings attached is in love with him. Then they’re both introduced to Brayden, the hot hockey jock who needs to cheat in order to make the grades to keep playing. Hence him buying cheat keys from Ashton who does whatever he wants to piss off daddy. Then enters Drew the hot new young hockey coach who Mia had a very brief hot encounter at a bar with and also Braydens former best friend and now Ashton’s new roommate. Could this get more convoluted? But it’s written so well I was hanging on every word. The descriptions of how each person is hiding something from each other and the denials of wanting what you want was overwhelming. In a deliciously angsty way.
My heart was all over the place for these very young and confused individuals. The love Ashton has for Mia is pure, but does he want more? But he’s so attracted to Drew and even his self imposed enemy Brayden. Mia is in love with Ashton, but she knows it’s a losing battle, right? She shelved her attraction to Drew since he’s the coach and Ashton’s roommate. Too messy. And earnestly falls for Brayden who has been pursuing her with all he’s got. But Brayden and Drew have unfinished business to work on. And Ashton isn’t helping matters by confusing how they both find him alluring.
It gets messy real quick. The only person who is completely honest is Mia. She lays it out in the open. Take it or leave it. I love how vulnerable she allows herself to be, yet she has such a good heart. They all do. But the guys are less forthcoming. They are all so stuck on labels and hiding from themselves it blows up in the most epic heart wrenching way. That cliffy is pretty brutal.
The reason this five star read is only getting a three from me is so trivial, but I hate how the women in these mfmm stories always gets the sh!ty end of the stick!!! Mia is the soothing balm for each of these rough around the edges guys and each are attracted to her and find her calming to their inner storms. But each one in a way screws her over due to their inner conflicts of self identity and desire. She’s not perfect or completely innocent here either, but she’s 💯 transparent with all of them. These guys need to work their stuff out. And I’m counting down the days until Bound gets released because I know it’ll be good!!! Just hoping that in the conclusion part of the story they treat Mia like the queen she is and stop taking her for granted. And grovel!!!

"Torn apart" is a story full of emotions and I love how the characters are written, they feel very genuine and real. Having the characters take their turn to tell the story helps to understand them and their actions better, it's definitely a book that gains from having multiple PoVs. I like all of the main characters, they got layers and the further the books go, the more of their real personalities come through. It's a bit more angsty than I normally read but it fits the story and narrative well.

It's very well portrayed and I think I'll like the second book in the duet even more as I hope the relationships develops and deepens. I’m very curious about where the authors are taking this story as it take many different directions from where it’s left off. I really want more of Ashton, Brayden, Drew and Mia!

Reviewed in Italy on October 21, 2020

    - I hurt the man in front of me. We had plans and I walked away. No, I ran. I ran from Brayden, from our friendship.
He's right. Shit got rough and I quit, and now it looks like I quit the NHL, even tough that's not completely true. -

    - There are million things I want to say to her. To tell her it was confusing, but I can't stop thinking about it. How I
would try it again - without alcohol to blame - if I didn't think it might further fracture our friendship. I'd like to tell
her that seeing her with Brayden made me crazy fucking jealous, which makes me mad at myself. -

I found this as a suggestion while I was reading a different series. After reading the blurb I knew this would be my kind of book.
And I wasn't wrong! I loved this book, it capture my attention and I just kept wanting to know what was going to happen next!

Was Ash and Mia going to try to work something out? What about the growing tension between ash and his new roommate Drew?
There is so much tension between all four characters that it just kept me wanting to continue on in the story and find out what's going to happen next.

This was absolutely phenomenal. There's nothing I like better than an angsty sports romance with men and women who all want each other but can't figure out what to do about it.

Book 1 in this duet was epic, reading and listening to it, before I knew it, it was over.

Best friends Ashton and Mia, who are also neighbours, hang out all the time. Ashton is gay, while Mia is secretly in love with him, but also a virgin.

After an almost hookup with drew, who turns out to be not only the new coach but also Ashtons new roommate, things start to get messy. When Mia gets drunk and pounces on Ashton she has to demand he tell her his true feelings before she can move on with Bray, Drew's ex best friend and arch nemesis.

As their history's unfold we soon learn that they're all into each other, but in true sports romance style, Ashton and Bray mess it up when Mia and Drew walk in on them getting hot and heavy in the locker room!
