ღ Wow, I'm not even sure where to begin with this book. It was so freaking good & it started out that way, but then it just kept getting better and better and better. By the end of the book I was completely floored

Let’s just say that, this installment was full of more twists & turns, more of Lorna’s emotional & heartbreaking past

plot thickens with that crazy cliffhanger…. I really want Dawn in my hands soon, but at the same time I know that, Sparrow Webs series is coming to the end! The FINAL of four trilogies is almost complete!

The aftermath of being held hostage!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: ❤️💙💜💛
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘
World building: 🌎🌏🌍🌎
Character development: 👤👤👤👤👤

The setting: Chicago

The Hero(s): Reid Murray - Works for Sparrow. Sterling Sparrow is the kingpin of the Chicago underground as well as the head of Sparrow Enterprises. Reid is the Technology specialist of the group and is married to Lorna who was kidnapped an beaten.

The heroine: Lorna Murray - Lorna was married to Reid and sister to Mason who both work for Sparrow. She was recently taken captive by accident. The captors really wanted Mason’s wife Lauren for her research into mind altering drugs which worked on the memory centers of the brain. Lorna was beaten and nearly raped and given a drug similar to what Lauren was studying.

The Love Story: Reid and Lorna have been married for years and are still madly in love. Reid feels a fierce protectiveness towards his wife and blames himself for her abduction.

The first book “Dusk” was about Lorna’s abduction and imprisonment as she was held hostage with Sparrow’s wife Araneae. This book was about what happened after their return. It deals heavily with PTSD, not just Lorna’s PTSD of the abduction but also of her abuse as a little girl by her mother’s boyfriend. It goes in to alarming detail about his sexual abuse of her.

The memory loss over the abduction is dealt with, how not knowing exactly what happened has affected her and Reid as well who wants to track down and kill whomever hurt Lorna. Though Lorna just wants Reid to stay with her and make her feel safe. In addition to the memory loss, Lorna gets flashes of memory which is disturbing to say the least given what she went through.

I liked the book and I do like when books deal with heavy subjects like these. Sometimes in romance terrible events are overcome by those involved all too quickly and not realistically but this was handled very well. That said, I was just a bit bored and found it hard to get through the book. It could be just one of those times I didn’t quite feel like reading, but it did take me days to get through this book. It definitely got much better during the second half and the cliffhanger was great.

I voluntarily read & reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts & opinions are my own.

Twisty and mystifying, Dark, the second book in the Dangerous Web series, continued on with Reid and Lorna’s story. The unexpected twists and turns kept me on the edge of the seat the whole time. My heart ached for the Lorna and my heart broke when she bared the horrific experience that she had buried for so long without ever mentioning it to anyone. Reid was supportive and I loved him for that. More secrets surfaced as the story went on and the shocking cliff hanger left me wanting more. I cannot wait to see where the story will go and to reveal all of the truths.

I volunteered to provide an honest review of an advance complimentary copy of this book.

I love Dark. It's exciting, emotional, and filled with must turn pages to follow Reid and Lorna's journey. Aleatha brought her words to life in the way she told their story.

Dark is the second of the Dangerous Web series and it doesn't disappoint. I laughed, cried, and bonded with Lorna and Reid. Lorna is the magnet that brings their family together keeps made the Sparrow tower a home. I love Lorna and Reid.

They have been a staple throughout all the Sparrow Webs but we never saw the depth of their relationship. Aleatha did an amazing job keeping true to all her characters from past to present.

My heart! Holy smokes this story is intense!

We learn so much more of Lorna and Mason’s past in this story, and oh man, it is deep and heart wrenching. This story is extremely emotional. My heart cried for Lorna and when Mason found out more about their childhood, I cried for him and his feelings of helplessness and protectiveness.

Reid is incredibly amazing. So compassionate and everything Lorna needs to cope with everything.

Everything is unfolding, the tension is palpable, and crap is about to hit the fan as these Sparrow men work to take down those who dare to harm their women. This book is the more emotional of the series. It’s explosive and passionate. I can’t get enough of this Sparrow world and am anxious for the next book!

4 🖤💔❤️❤️🌟🌟🌟🌟s❗️❗️❗️❣️

The second book of the trilogy was intense and emotional, full of avenge, justice, abuse, betrayal, secrets and lies.
And love❣️❣️❣️

The mission of the four Sparrow ‘brothers’ was to find out the people who kidnapped Aranae and Lorna.

Although both wives had returned home, Lorna was trying to heal and recover with the help of her amazing husband, Reid. The depth of his love for her was beautiful and he would do anything to protect her.

Lorna was having flashbacks, not only from her recent abduction but also from her childhood. The last ones had very dark moments and the revelation that she was sexually abused at 10 y.o. was atrocious.

Although the writing was engaging, the pace was slower in the first half of the story but then picked up.

The second part ended with a lot of unanswered questions and a severe cliffhanger, I am heading to the last part asap!!!

THE REVIEW FOR THE BOOK: DARK.

GENRE: CONTEMPORARY MAFIA ROMANCE.
AUTHOR; ALEATHA ROMIG.
TYPE: BOOK #2 OF THE DANGEROUS WEB SERIES.
POV: FIRST PERSON: DUAL PERSPECTIVE.
MY RATING: 4 " LIGHT AT THE END OF A DARK TUNNEL" STARS.

Aleatha Romig did it again!!!
Another installation in this suspenseful, hot, and delicious series that I wanted to Devore from the start. This is the unique love story of Lorna and Reid Murray, a Spin-off couple from the Sparrows.

This book right off where book 1 Dusk...after being freed from her abductors and going through all the things they put her through....one battle is won but the war is still going on.
On one hand, Reid and his friends are still trying to find the people who put a blindfold over their eyes and betrayed them and on the other hand, he is suffering for wife's PTSD. Recovery will take a long time and the flashbacks and memory loss were so hard on her..poor Lorna...But Reid is there with her at every turn.

The suspense here is deadly...you may think at one point that yes...I know what's going to happen next...But you couldn't be more wrong. All my hunches were proved wrong at every turn...in the end, I gave up and was totally dependent on the author to guide me...no more thinking, I am in for the ride.

The action-packed plot alone will give you thrills...the way these men played with danger, the thirst for vengeance excited me to no end. All the sparrow men were protective of their wife and when you sprinkle the element of love with the danger of death...it is bound to be exquisite.

The writing of Author Romig has portrayed Lenor's agony, her longing to be the woman she was before all this, and most of all her love which was steadfast throughout the book.
I was not connected to the story for the first few chapters but when the plot twist came...I was ALL IN!!!

I totally recommend this series and all the previous series from the sparrow world to all my fellow Mafia Romance lovers!!!.

Nobody does it like Aleatha Romig, as the top Sparrow's men race to find out who has infiltrate and broken through an "unbreakable " breach in their system and take the women that keep them from the dark, even the King of Chicago has been brought to his knees Sterling Sparrow. I love how Sterling, Mason, Patrick & Reid work when under pressure.

Reid Murray tries to stay by his wife Lorna side to make her feel safe. The only way she can actual fall asleep after the kidnapping is in her husband arms. Reid is trying to balance finding out who took them, work, comforting his wife and keeping Chicago safe is becoming almost impossible. As Lorna starts to gets glimpses of her memory back she doesn't know what's real an a dream. What Lorna is remembering is not her kidnapping but trauma when she was 10.

The closer they get to answers the Sparrow organization is finding that Mason Lorena's brother past life is at the back door. Does anyone ever get rid of their government assassination "The Order" the answer is in this book. Oh yes I forgot to mention their is a cliff too as anyone who has ever read Aleatha Romig books knows

My heart completely broke with this book, it's a good thing Aleatha Romig knows how to put it together again.

What happens when you're held captive but you don't remember anything once your safely home again? Do you just go on like it didn't happen, or do you try to get answers no matter what they may reveal?

This review is a little hard for me to do because I don't want to give anything away but I wish I had been warned before going in that there was something that would not sit right with me, a trigger if you will. I have one and only one hard limit, and if you have been following my reviews you know what it is, when it comes to books and this book touched on that subject. Thankfully the chapters were titled and when I knew something was going to happen I could skip or skim through the chapter. I don't like doing that and I honestly never do it, but after reading the first chapter with this subject I felt the need to do it with the few that followed. Did it take away from the story, not for me it didn't, but, because I did skip/skim 2 or 3 chapters I felt I couldn't give it a five star review.

"𝗜'𝗺 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗰𝗿𝗮𝘇𝘆. 𝗠𝘆 𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹."

Dark is as gripping as Dusk from the opening to the end I was hooked! It was such an emotional read. The things Lorna went through while growing up keeps coming back to her. No matter how she tries to forget them and reading them for me was a challenge. However, it's a pivotal scene that will define Lorna as a woman of substance. The kind of woman whom Reid fell in love with and will always be at her side during these trying times. The plot thickens as the Sparrow men continue to delve deeper to find out who's responsible for the kidnapping. I am looking forward to the next book.

I'm amazed at how articulately Ms. Romig can tell a story without losing me. The character development is very rich and the entire book keeps me engaged. They make me laugh, cry, and scream, along with every other possible emotion. If you like twists and turns, it has and I was not bored on a single page. The story-telling is crisp, the narrative compelling, and a definite must-read series!

5 “The Plot Thickens” Stars

Aleatha Romig keeps riddling me with anxiety but I loved every second of Dark!! This second book in the Dangerous Web trilogy was deep in dark emotion and of course the ending was an explosive cliff hanger. There was so much more to learn about Lorna in this book. The mystery of the present and the slow unveiling of the past makes for an intense and delicate time for Lorna and Reid. My heart broke at times but I was also proud to see her be strong and resilient.

This book picks up right where Dusk ended. There are still so many questions that need answers and the Sparrow men will stop at nothing to avenge their women. I do love how all the men love their wives.

I can not fathom how this author is gonna wrap everything in the next book!! There is so much to learn and understand and I am waiting on baited breathe for the last book. What I do know is that this author is amazing at wrapping up her series with twists and turns that are expected and very unexpected. There is nothing better than being Aleatha’d!!

Dark is the second book in the Dangerous Web series and the second book of Reid and Lorna’s story. This one picks up right where things left off in Dusk, so you must read that first before continuing with Dark.

This one was full of more twists and turns, more of Lorna’s emotional and heartbreaking past. Which her past can be a trigger for some as it features some sensitive subject matter. It completely broke my heart and the fact that she never mentioned it to a soul and has been hiding that for so many years. I love that Reid is there for Lorna, he is supportive, he wants to help her, but he also wants to know who kidnapped her and seek revenge.

More secrets come to light, there were more twists and turns and of course a cliff hanger that will leave you wanting to know what is going to happen next. I can’t wait to see where Reid and Lorna’s story goes and if all the truths will be revealed.

IT’S ALWAYS DARKEST BEFORE THE DAWN

“… giving in to the dark. I’m telling you it’s a shitty place. Once you give in, its fucking hard to come back.”

This tense mystery is just a percolating time bomb ready to explode. It coils tighter and tighter like a predator snake ready to spring at any moment. All while the Sparrows plot to unleash their wrath against an enemy that dared kidnap and harm Araneae and Lorna in a mistake that left the real target unscathed, and the Sparrow organization reeling from gaps in their impenetrable security. It’s the ultimate mystery for them with no time to lose – all hands on deck -- no stone left unturned – time is of the essence. When they finally strike, the as-yet-unidentified foe(s) better run for cover.

“Was it wrong to do a bad thing for a good reason?”

DARK seeks to unravel this mystery and the faceless identities with little to go on but the guys’ immense experience, skill, and wits in order to track down the culprits. The key may lie somewhere in locked memories and has the Sparrow men in a race against the clock to heal and protect their damaged women (especially Lorna), identify the guilty, and figure out if there’s a connection to the past. There’s also something being withheld from Lorna that may be another key, but how will she take it? When memory flashes come, will it destroy the survivor she has always been?

The story is filled with knee-buckling surprises in a slow build that puts a spotlight on Lorna and horrific, shocking details of her past – dark, vile, disgusting revelations that belong in the dark, not the light of day … and Lorna would rather not remember. The kind of jaw-dropping, raw, ugly things better left under the bed where human monsters dwell. What is reality, and what are false memories? As the haunting memories keep surfacing, the Sparrows plow ahead in a series of chess moves against the enemy that can only lead to a winner-takes-all conclusion. Will the gambit pay off or blow up in their faces?

I loved how personal this story was for Lorna, the depth of her relationship with Reid, and the fierce protectiveness of a man in love who will do anything – ANYTHING – to protect the woman he loves. Trust, love and the strength of their sexual bond have never been more critical to help Lorna through the unfolding details of captivity and what it stirs in her memories. Will it break Lorna under the strain of not knowing,or is remembering worse? Oh, the many questions and answers in this nail-biting conundrum. The captivating journey is quiet and internal on the surface, but a building powder keg under the surface. AR has given us another turbulent, winding mystery filled with surprises and dead-ends that culminate in a blackout, shocking conclusion that I didn’t see coming. The emotionally grinding journey builds momentum until that coil finally snaps in an adrenaline-charged cliffy. Mark your calendars for release of the final book DAWN in February 2021.

“Dark claimed another victory.”

Dark (Dangerous Web #2) by Aleatha Romig
5 stars
M/F Mystery, Romance
Triggers: Child abuse, Rape, Incest, Murder, cliff hanger
I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.

This book continues where book 1 leaves off. For sure you'll want to read the first book. Reid and Lorna are struggling to figure out the mystery behind who took Lorna and where her memories have gone.

Lorna knows that some things are better left alone, but with her amnesia haunting her, flashes coming back and her past mixing with what she is remembering, Lorna isn't quite sure what's reality and what's her imagination. She knows that she's loved and knows that she can talk with her friends and family, but what she isn't sure about is whether or not people are telling her everything about her condition.

Reid is struggling with his inability to protect Lorna. When he sees her struggling with her memories, all he can do is comfort her. But, secrets are coming to light and he isn't quite sure where to put all of his pent up emotions either. He and Mason are racing an invisible clock and neither truly know where the next hit will come from.

With the past colliding with the present, the Sparrows and Lorna will have to figure out who they can trust, what they can trust, in terms of memories and this book will leave you breathless. You will want book 3 right away, because how book 2 ends...you'll be cursing Romig in the most fantastic way.

Oh Lorna. You sweet, sweet, wonderful woman.

I’ve admired Lorna fiercely through this series. She’s the glue that holds the Sparrow men together. After the trauma of Dusk, she’s home, back in the tower with the delicious Reid to help her recover.

Recovery is hard though and lovely Lorna has to through some tough memories. They were tough on her and very tough to read. Sparrows avenge.

There’s still so much to uncover and I really have no clue how the series will end. The initial conclusions I had were blown to dust. I realised there’s no point in trying to guess, just let Aleatha take me along for the ride and hope that my heart is still beating at the end.

4.5 stars---DARK is the second instalment in Aleatha Romig’s contemporary, adult DANGEROUS WEB erotic, romantic suspense trilogy set in the author’s Sparrow Webs world. This is Reid Murray and Lorna Pierce-Murray’s continuing story. DARK should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately after the events and cliffhanger of book one DUSK. I recommend reading the other series in the Sparrow Webs World for back story and cohesion, as the current story line premise references things that have happened in the other trilogies.

WARNING: Due to the nature of the storyline premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Lorna and Reid) using two timelines (present day and twenty-six years in the past) DARK continues to follow in the aftermath of the abduction of Reid’s wife Lorna, and Sparrow’s wife Araneae. Rescued and recovering from their ordeal, Lorna and Araneae are unable to remember the events leading up to, and during their imprisonment but DNA tests and blood work reveal the duo had been drugged by a familiar formula, and the identity of one of the men involved. Working together with Lorna’s brother Mason, Reid goes on the hunt for the truth as Lorna’s memories begin to flash between the present and the past pushing Mason and Reid to avenge the sister, and woman they love.

DARK is a dark, gritty, heart breaking and emotional story line of abuse, betrayal, and revenge; secrets and lies; of power and control. The premise is dramatic, raw and haunting; the characters are edgy and tragic; the romance is provocative and intense but I dislike the use of a certain four-letter word in my romance story lines. Aleatha Romig pulls the reader into a tragic, tense and complex story of love, vengeance, and power.

Be prepared for this one. It might seem long on what Lorna discovers what she went through as a child. Scenes will feel cringe worthy, and will have some triggers. I just loved Mason and Reid at the end though. Cliffy will be sure to bet you'll stick around for the last installment.

Absolutely brilliant... I really can’t get enough of these characters. The story is gripping and twisted. I have no idea where this story is going and who is responsible for all the events that have happened so far.

What truly comes through is how much each of these men put their woman first. Everything they do is for them. They continually strive to keep them safe and will avenge anyone that threatens them. The powerful relationship between Reid and Lorna is encompassing, is love to have a man like Reid of my very own.

We also get to see a little more of Lorna’s past and the harrowing childhood she endured. Arrrrgggghhhh so many shockers coming through into the present day. This author knows how to hold an audience captive !

It is hard to talk about this book without giving spoilers to make this brief. We really deep-dived into Lorna's history and childhood, which was very hard to read about. Content warnings for child sexual abuse (in detail), PTSD, survivor's guilt, and other dark, twisted themes.

Overall, my head is still spinning, and I cannot wait to find out how everything ends.

Dark by Aleatha Romig was a twisted web of drama, action, passion and love. This story was such a beautifully layered romantic supense experience. Reid and Lorna was everything.

Lorna has been rescued in bruised, battered and abused condition after the kidnapping. Her mind is fractured. The trauma and the drug has muddied her memory and the past is rearing its ugly head to torture her more. Reid cannot let it happen. As his friends fight to find out who is challenging the Sparrows, he has one whole another kind of battle in his home.

This story is the second book of the trilogy. And so a large part of the story was about Sparrows, the most powerful outfit and their inner workings as they try to solve the puzzle. My heart breaks for Lorna. Such a beautiful, strong, loving and independent woman and she is coming undone by monsters in her mind. Reid is the most perfect man. Unbearably soft and sweet and overprotective when he takes care of Lorna. And ruthless and violent when taking down people who are trying to hurt his wife and his family. Lorna and Reid has such a strong connection. Reid understands what she needs all the time. I could feel his pain to see Lorna suffering. Lorna was so brave and fierce but all humans have limits. They are not easy. They are explosive and intense. The story has twists and turns in plenty. And of course the author left me with a cliffy. A bad one.

I am fascinated and obsessed with everything Aleatha Roming writes in Sparrow world. Dark is no exception. This story is a brilliant combination of action and romance.

This is book two in Lorna and Reid's story and it picks up where book one left off. As Lorna navigates her mind's eye and tries to remember the past few weeks, she is having flashes from the past she has forgotten. Some she wanted to forget others she made herself forget. And you wonder why, anyone who went through what she has and came out the other side as a strong, independent woman deserves a future with Reid.
Reid is trying to be strong for his wife but he doesn't know how to help her. He wants to catch those that hurt her and make them pay. Along with Sparrow, Patrick and Mason, they can do anything. As they follow the clues, Mason learns things about his and Lorna's childhood that will make you cringe.
This series is not for the faint of heart, if you have triggers of any kind, please tread carefully. It is a series worth reading, it will break your heart, leave you breathless, make you cry, and have you wondering where the author came up with this amazing story. Oh, and there is one hell of a cliff-hanger. I need book 3 NOW!!! Please!

5 Star Review of Dark (Dangerous Web #2) by Aleatha Romig

Dark is the second book in the latest series Dangerous Web from Aleatha Romig and as the name implies it is darker, more twisted and absolutely captivating, it is the continuation of Reid Murray and Lorna Pierce's story

Reid is struggling with the guilt he feels at being unable to protect Lorna as she continues to struggle with her loss of memory and her recent trauma. I really liked both Reid and Lorna, both separately and especially together, they really are a great paring.
There were many twists and turns, mystery and suspense and I was often on the edge of my seat as I read this story and I cannot wait to see what happens in the final book, Dawn.

Reid and Lorna's story continues in Dark and it is dark and explosive. The Sparrow stories are always gripping and breath grasping to the last word.
Lorna is still reeling from her kidnapping and trying to come to terms with her absent memory. The Sparrow men and women circle her with support and love, trying to make her feel like she will be lifted up and taken care of when the memories soar back to her.
But that ending, I can't fathom a world without him.
