Kingdom Duet #2

Rise of a Queen

Rate this book
Nothing is fair in love.

This is my kingdom. My territory.
I own everything and control everyone, Aurora included.
She shouldn’t have barged into my world with no armour.
She shouldn’t have caught my attention with no warning.
Alas, she did.
Then she thought she could disappear.
If a battle is what it’ll take to protect and own her, I’ll shed blood.
Wars aren’t fair, and neither am I.

Rise of a Queen is the second part of a duet and is not standalone.

***5 STARS***

“I’m not protecting you because you’re a woman. I’m protecting you because you’re my woman.”

I didn’t think it was possible to top Book #1 but Rina Kent did. This book was the EPIC conclusion to the perfect dark billionaire romance.

I won’t go to much into the storyline to avoid giving away spoilers but this book was expertly written. It was dark but not disturbingly dark. Jonathan King was the textbook possessive and controlling protector of Aurora. As he says he would protect her from anyone, including her. And he did. Dominant, firm, and pure alpha Jonathan King rules his empire with a firm hand and it was beautiful to see his feelings for Aurora break through that tough facade. When she needed him he was always there loving and protecting her patiently and with an indomitable love.

I didn’t want this book to end and the author gave us a phenomenal epilogue to see how one of my favorite couples fares in life.

I highly recommend this book!

Rina Kent can do hot possessive men like nobody’s business!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💋💋💋💋💋
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 👏👏👏👏👏
World building: 🌎🌏🌍🌎🌏
Character development: 🤓🥸😎😤😳

The setting: England

The Hero: Jonathan King – father to Aiden King, uncle to Levi King, Jonathan has always been seen as ruthless and selfish. He was married to Clarissa’s sister Alicia in order to get revenge on her father for ruining his family.

The heroine: Aurora Harper (a.k.a. Clarissa Griffin) – Alicia’s half sister. Alicia came from a wealthy family but Clarissa was raised by her father (a.k.a. The Duct Tape Killer), Aurora was blamed and attacked by the victims families even though she was only sixteen at the time and was the one that turned her father in. Now he is trying to get paroled for good behavior and wants her to testify.

The Love Story: Jonathan bought out 51% of the stocks in Aurora’s company in order to force her to be his. Though Aurora fights him on just about everything, he likes to think he owns her completely. The passion between them is sizzling hot and Jonathan is changing.

I like the give and take between Aurora and Jonathan as well as the dominant possessiveness he displays. It is a bit ridiculous but so hot! This book is literally charring my kindle it is so scorching. I love every bit of it. Though in real life I would hate a guy like that, he is so sexy as a romantic lead. Definitely Jeffrey Dean Morgan fits the bill as Jonathan King!

Like all of Rina’s books, this is not only a steam fest but has a good storyline. There is the animosity between Jonathan and his former best friend Ethan, the strained relationship between Jonathan and Aiden, the even worse relationship between Aurora and Aiden. The intrigue of the packages Aurora is getting at her old apartment with thumb drives including snippets of Alecia talking to her and telling her about the past. Then to top it all off we have Aurora’s father, the serial killer in the mix.

I voluntarily read & reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts & opinions are my own.

Sorry, I have no intention of reading this book in which the male character hooks up with his dead wife’s kid sister. Jonathan repeatedly tells Aiden to respect his mother’s memory and what does Jonathan do? He hooks up and pursues her kid sister who is also her lookalike. We could’ve gotten Jonathan and Alicia but the author chose to pursue an age gap because it’s “taboo”. Jonathan hasn’t been with another woman since Alicia passed and he’s now going to hook up with her kid sister who is a replica of her.

Also, this idea that Clarissa is the partner he deserves is so sick. Alicia’s mental illness did not make her less of a person, mother, or spouse. For Rina Kent to basically imply that in one of her latest instagram posts is sickening and harmful to those who are actual dealing with this irl. There’s nothing STRONG about this. Please get out of here with this brand of feminism.

She’s left so many plot holes and loose ends in regards to Alicia. If Rina Kent wasn’t so focused on creating google docs in which she drags a bunch of 15 year olds, she could’ve fixed these issues. Aiden was right, she’s better off dead and away from Jonathan.

I think i'd liked this duet more if it wasn't told for the 50th time how Aurora looks exactly like a replica of Alicia. it was weird and disgusting.

‘’Love is for masochistic fools. I was in love once. It’s irrational and out of control. Perhaps that’s why I’m trapped in my own head, scheming one revenge plot after the other. I know full well it won’t bring Alicia back, but I go on with it anyway’’ - Jonathan King (Twisted Kingdom chapter 37).

I don’t understand. Did RK forgot what she wrote in Twisted Kingdom or did she pretend that scene never existed? Like seriously, you don’t need to change the fact that Jonathan loved Alicia just to make AuroraxJonathan looked better. Like I don’t see anything wrong of being in love once to being in love with another person. I was pretty sad to know about the fact that Jonathan never truly loved Alicia even tho it was implied in Twisted Kingdom. In the trilogy, we can see all the evidences about his love towards Alicia. Plotting revenge for Alicia? Visited her grave during her birthday? Bought the entire accident site with top notch company guarding it? Yeah, those things r more than enough to prove it. Seriously, having Aurora looked exactly like Alicia is uncomfortable enough but denying about Jonathan’s love towards Alicia is just a no for me.

People might be asking, why are you so obsessed with Alicia? She’s dead and bla bla bla. Like I don’t really care if Jonathan wants to end up with someone new, but at least RK could create a character that doesn’t looked like Alicia’s doppelganger. It feels as if he’s using her as a rebound. But still, the least she can do is not denying the feelings that Jonathan had developed for Alicia during the trilogy. Sorry, but I just can’t accept this. I’m just gonna pretend this never happened.

A piece of advice, RK needs to find a more reliable beta readers who can help her in remembering what she wrote in her previous books.

P.S Now I’m excited for the THRONE OF POWER & VENGEANCE. AHHHHH CAN’T WAIT TO MEET RAI ONCE AGAIN ❤️

Note: My review did not came from the ARC. This is just my personal ranting for disliking this duet series.

The only thing I like about this book is Layla..she definitely deserves her own story and I hope the author doesn't make her weak as aurora..I mean come on Aurora is a horny bitch and what kind of eloping she did at the first chapter that Jonathan found her within 2 chapters..I mean lol..aurora is very weak and all over the place and Alicia was much stronger than this stupid horny bitch..she heard the tape of her sister telling her that Jonathan poisoned her but still without finding the truth regarding this she became horny..I hate this kind of heroine back boneless bitch of Jonathan..And Jonathan..ufff..what to say about him..he is so much controling that I really wanted to slap him and I would have if he was real.. people in real life don't like this kind of dominating and controlling men..and the author always portrays heroines in all her books as weak backbone less horny sluts who forget everything after seeing the heroes and become over the top horny..give me a break.. nobody respects these types of weak heroines 🙄🙄🙄🙄😒😒😒😒😒😠😠😠😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤

“If you’re not a wolf, you’ll be eaten by wolves”

Jonathan what did you do to me?

I’m standing here speechless . Nothing I’ll say will make justice to what I just read.

I couldn’t wish for a better ending for Aurora and Jonathan’s story.

It was just perfect.

If in the first book he started to open up a bit every time, In this one he showed all his cards to protect what was his . I saw another part of him , another layer that made him more human and less war machine .

In a sort of way the “funny” Jonathan came out , but also the caring man , and the good father .

“Don’t cry again” .His voice is hard yet tender at the same time. “Those eyes aren’t made for tears”

Finally all the pieces come together in a big messy plot twist . All the mysteries behind Aurora and Alicia’s past finally made sense. I spend most of the time playing Sherlock, trying to figure all out. But Rina played all us once again. And I loved it.

Aurora is a real woman, much more wiser than her age. She’s the one. The woman who brought Jonathan King to his knees . She challenge him like no one else, and she’s not afraid , not a bit, but she definitely enjoyed herself.

“I don’t know how it happened or why, but Jonathan has effortlessly become an undivided part of my life. I couldn’t get rid of him even if I wanted to.”

Her past hunted her since she was sixteen , and now all was coming to an end . She finally was able to come face to face with her past and all the ghosts that tormented her. She showed strength , courage and confidence , and with a King besides her , she became a real Queen.

“You flipped my world upside down and I enjoyed every second of it”

This duet will always be one of my favorite for sure.

I could’t put It down for a second.

So I couldn’t give it less then 5 stars.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I hope you’ll enjoy it like I did!

Enjoy

3.95!

One of rinas finest works 😭 (only two were good enough to make it to four stars)

This was a satisfying conclusion to Johnathon and auroras story. I liked it tbh it was enjoyable. Their was only one thing that was holding me back and that was the writing style. Though it was fast paced and addictive it was also just so damn horrendous and like I did cringe at times and the plot at times also felt too unrealistic and exaggerated but overall a good enjoyable experience I'd say and ofcourse if you want smut then read this.

Mild Spoilers

A lot better than the first book, but still not the best. Still had some of the problems I had with the first book, but they weren't as in your face, so I was able to get over them more. This one was way more entertaining too, and I definitely enjoyed their relationship a lot more. Jonathan actually acted like he cared and loved Aurora, finally, in this one too so their relationship was more believable. We also got more answers of his and Alicia's relationship which helped.

The biggest problem I had with this book was the ending. I guessed who the bad guy was pretty quick, but it wasn't necessarily obvious who that person was. It was just a bit far fetched that, that is the person who it ended up being, and everyone's reactions to it were lacking considering how big of a part that person played in their lives. I also didn't care for the entire loose ending with the heroine's dad. It's a bit unbelievable that we went though two books of her past being such a big part, just for it to end that way with no aftermath. Same with Alicia's death. I felt like it was tied up too messily. And again with that epilogue, that's NOT how I wanted it for them. Aurora is still young, and I wish they would at least TRY for kids. He had one with Alicia, so I would have just liked for him to be able to experience having a baby again but with Aurora, and doing it right this time. Kent still needs some work on her endings for sure.

Overall, better than the first book, but still a disappointing story for Jonathan. Maybe my hopes were a little too high, but I definitely wanted something more for him and his romance.

FIVE RISE STARS for Aurora and Jonathan 💛🖤💛🖤!!!

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

AMAZING CONCLUSION!

As always so far, Rina has written the perfect conclusion for one more couple, for one more fantastic story.

I really enjoyed reading this duet although at first, I wasn't sure I would like it.

But Rina made me fall in love with Aurora and Jonathan's story!

"Rise of a Queen" is a contemporary romance with enemies to lovers trope full of twists and turns because of which you won't be able to drop the book to the very end.

Aurora and Jonathan's relationship is full of a surprise and they are a perfect match!

If you've read and loved the "Royal Elite" series and "Reign of a King", then you should read this book too!!!

Highly recommended!!!

P.S. I can't wait to read more of Rina's books!

Definitely worse than book 1. Actually, way way worse. See below proof:

🔫 Aurora told Aiden she wasn’t trying to take anything of Alicia’s. Then later in the book she says something along the lines of “I want Jonathan all for myself even though he was Alicia’s. The pausing guilt I felt before is little to none. I’m so sorry Alicia, I’m the worst sister to ever exist”. Girl, screw you. You’re lying to everyone both living and dead. There’s a special place in hell for someone like you

🔫 Did RK seriously throw us a shitty consolation prize with the whole “If I’m not around, you have my permission to marry Jonathan” memory between Alicia and Aurora? How freaking convenient 🙄 If Aiden were here, he’d be side-eyeing this “memory” of Aurora’s. And the whole “you’re the first person who I ever slept with” bs from Jonathan. So Alicia and Jonathan screwed but never slept in the same bed together? What’s this, RK, ANOTHER shitty consolation prize?

🔫 Aurora really needs to stop saying she loves Alicia. Aurora has proved she’s not Alicia’s sister time and time again. Girl, you already took her man. You clearly don’t love Alicia. Get her name OUT of your mouth

🔫 The quote that was the icing on this shitty cake: “be proud Alicia. Your boy is now a man”. Should Alicia be proud of you too for screwing her man?

🔫 Oh and another quote that really pissed me off: “Alicia told me if she ever had a daughter she’d name her Aurora. That’s why I chose the name Aurora”. Again, GET HER NAME OUT OF YOUR MOUTH. You cannot take pride in Alicia while screwing her husband. Shame on you

🔫 Let’s not forget when Jonathan told Aurora she’s the best thing he’s tasted. Which logically, means Aurora tastes better than Alicia. Comparing sister’s bedroom performance is utterly DESPICABLE

Queen Alicia is probably the nicest person in the world. And while I agree with Aiden that Alicia wouldn’t have an objection to Jonathan and Aurora’s relationship, that doesn’t make it right. It’s more of Jonathan and Aurora walking all over Alicia’s love for them. Like Jonathan said, she’s the earth everyone can step on. And like Alicia said herself, she loves everyone but even though they’re hers, she’s not theirs 😭 my Queen Alicia deserves so much better 😭😭😭

At least Aiden honors her memory. Even if he’s now nice to Aurora, he still respects Alicia’s memory. He still has his wife wear Alicia’s ring proudly. I’m so happy Alicia got a son like him. Everyone else in her life was absolute trash.

Not sure why Aurora is called a queen. She’s a pauper. Actually, she’s the joker at the bottom deck of cards.

I hope Jonathan and Aurora drown in the ocean. I’m not talking about the ocean at “island Aurora”; I’m talking about Queen Alicia’s ocean of tears 😭

I hated this book, but I’m more disappointed in RK than anything. I’m just going to stick to her previous, non-taboo, works of art 🏃🏽‍♀️

#0.5 Rule of a Kingdom — 2 stars
#1 Reign of a King — 2.25 stars

this one did the balancing between Jonathan ‘the pet owner’ and Jonathan ‘the pet protector’ much better (the pet being Aurora). i really enjoyed seeing his ‘softer’ side for Aurora & his boys. i appreciate Auroras silly antics to get away from Jonathan if only because it offered a bit of change in dynamic as opposed to her being submissive all the time. it was entertaining. the Aurora vs Alicia comparison was still ick though, especially since Aurora got a little mentally unstable in this book as if she was repeating Alicias history. the suspense was also less confusing if only because we finally got answers. in any case, it was just a better installment overall, and Jonathan King definitely got the bigger Daddy energy than Nathaniel Weaver. 💅

Not a bad one.

I like Jonathan and although the chemistry could have been a little better, I enjoyed the story very much. The pacing was good.

This was gonna be a 3 star, but Rina Kent made the heroine refer to herself as "defective" and "barren" all because she is infertile...?

Yeah, doesn't vibe well with me.

A woman’s sole purpose of existing is not to have children, so the fact that she cannot, doesn't make her any less of a worthy person.

Calling her "defective" was uncalled for me, and made me extremely uncomfortable.

“He called me his queen once, but what he doesn’t know is that there’s no king to my kingdom but him.”

Yes sir this is the one. Loved every second of this book. I love jonathan more than anything in this world. Woah this man. Man of my fucking dreams. Can’t believe I’m crushing on a 40 year old. Opppss.

Something about men fucking playing chess gets me going. Fuck me the way she described him I almost stopped breathing like:

“He leans both elbows on his knees and forms a steeple at his chin with his fingers. Those long fingers that I can’t stop staring at — or at him.”

When he fucking takes her to HIS island so that no one bugs her. FUCK ME.
When he fucking names a god damn ISLAND for HER. I’m obsessed beyond words.

Loved this duet and I’m so sad it ended because god this was good.

Whatever I was expecting I got it and guess what I liked the most ?!! *squeals* the fact that Aurora is serial killer's daughter and her life was not easy because of that and as always Rina Kent delivers the mystery so nice.I always like the mystery factor in Rina Kent's books.I feel in romance novels if anybody writes mystery really good it's Rina Kent.

This book stole my heart I can’t-

Aurora (fc: Maria Manvelian)

The strongest girl! Even though she did annoy me a little bit I love how she changes Jonathan to a new person and how she didn’t let her past get in the way of her happiness after two book

Jonathan(fc: David Gandy)

That man has my heart I admit it! He’s way too possessive like calm down man-
But the way he cares for Aurora and makes her feel like the queen she is! How can you not like a this sexy man?!

I could’ve finished it in a day like I did with the first book but I need to remember that I can’t rush myself into finishing the book.

The relationship between Jonathan, Aiden, and Levi has my heart! I haven’t read their books yet but I will soon!

The plot twist was not what I imagined. Took me by surprise.

Jonathan and Aurora are meant for each other! They go so well together even though they have a taboo relationship.

We get it…you guys like to get down-

Like I said Jonathan is way too possessive and he needs to take it down a notch.

Overall 5/5 stars!!!

Rina knows how to make you love the characters after the second book.

The epilogue did it for me and it just made me love them more!!!

I wish I can tell you I’ll be taking a break from mafia romance which is something I definitely need to do but who knows?

“Aurora is different. She stops and stares. She appreciates the little things and doesn’t take anything for granted. And, in a way, her strong passion about living life to its fullest has been rubbing off on me.
Or perhaps it’s because I get to see the spark in her eyes and the brightness in her features that haven’t been dimmed by her past”

aurorajonathon omg i loved this book and i liked how its not only about the romance but i feel the plot twist was expected i didnt have a hard time knowing who’s behind everything anyway i will miss my royal elite family if there isn’t anymore books about them i love them all and i cant wait to read the rest of the books so i can finally read god of malice and meet eli🤪

“I need to hold on to something, and it’s strange that he’s the only thing I can turn to.
“Don’t cry again.” His voice is hard yet tender at the same time. “Those eyes aren’t made for tears.”

✨possessive men era✨

“Aurora is mine, and I’ll bring chaos to the world to protect what’s fucking mine.”

“When we sit for family dinners, Jonathan doesn’t touch his food until he makes sure you’re not only settled, but you’ve also started eating.”

“He couldn’t care less about us. He only started that habit when you joined our dinners.”

“There’s also the way he watches you so you’ll eat or how he snaps at Aiden or Levi whenever they address you. It’s like he doesn’t want your attention divided from him.”

“I mean it, Aurora. If you leave again, I won’t only chase you to Leeds or Oxford. I’ll flip the world upside down to find you.”

“Then I’ll burn the world that forced you to disappear and resurrect you from its ashes.”

“It’s also about how I’ll protect you from the world and yourself if I have to. It’s about burning your obstacles so you can leave the shadows and shine like you were always meant to. You can provoke or test me or even give me that fucking attitude, but you do not get to run away from me.”

“Do Not Wear the Red Lipstick for Dinner Tonight.”

“Your smile, like everything else about you, is mine and mine alone. I don’t share.”

“No one hurts a fucking hair on your head, Aurora. No one touches you but me. Do you hear me? I’ll burn them all down.”

((( The world is at the tip of your fingers.

“It is not.”

“It is now. I’ll bring the world to its knees in front of you. All you have to do is ask.”

Why?” I whisper.

“Why what?”

“Because the world needs to bend the knee for my queen.” ))))

😭😭😭😭 They are so perfect together!!
as he said she is the queen to his empire

(((( I love you, Jonathan.” He smiles, a genuine one that lights his grey eyes and threatens to stop my heart

“You do, huh?”

“I do. I thought I was incapable of love after losing Dad and Alicia, but you wrenched it out of me so easily. In the beginning, it was frightening, but it soon became exciting. I’m so glad I met you — or more like, re-met you.”

“And I’m glad I kept you, wild one. You flipped my world upside down and I enjoy every second of it. I don’t only love you, I’m obsessed with everything about you, and I’ll spend the rest of my life proving how much your presence means to me.” )))))
