My Beautiful Poison

Rate this book
I forgave him for the lies he told.
And I forgave him for breaking my body with his touch.
But I couldn’t forgive myself for staying.
Until I met you… my antidote.
I knew I couldn’t keep forgiving him, when I could be safe in your arms.
With your touch, there were no tears.
With your kisses, I could finally breathe.
You might be the villain in everyone’s story...
But not mine.

The bad boy is a good guy!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: ❤️💙💜💛💚
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📔📙
World building: 🌎🌏🌍🌎🌏
Character development: 👤👤👤👤👤

The Hero(s): August – just got out of jail for a crime where he was set up by his boss for wanting to get out of the crime business. His boss Josh is one of the biggest drug dealers in the city, lives with August’s alcoholic mom and used August from a young age to do everything from running drugs to collecting debts.

The heroine: Rylee - a rich girl from the other side of the tracks, she knew August in high school though he was a few years older and all the girls had crushes on him. Rylee is trying to break up with her abusive boyfriend Anderson, but neither he nor her mother will accept that it is over and keep pressuring her to marry him.

The Love Story: August sees Rylee as better than him and doesn’t want to bring her down, though they are very attracted to each other. They keep ending up together and can’t force back the desire.

August determines that they should stay away from each other but Rylee sees that he needs a friend. So she is determined to be a friend to him though she wants more. The chemistry between these two is through the roof and the romance is so hot!

I also enjoyed all the supporting characters. Anderson is the perfect jerk ex-boyfriend who treated Rylee wrong, she also has an identical twin Rhianna who is dating Noah, August’s friend and lawyer. August has a younger sister Paige that he is close to and Paige happens to be dating Rylee’s younger brother Beckham. The character development and world building are terrific.

The romance takes precedence over other storylines. Meaning it is more about how other stories affect the relationship than having intense storylines outside the relationship. And it has all the feels. I just loved it and the ending was so good as well, though it was a cliffhanger. I can’t wait to read the next book.

I voluntarily read & reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts & opinions are my own.

MY BEAUTIFUL POISON: is the first full length romance book in the series 'Wicked Poison,' by T.L. Smith. Spoken in 'Dual Perspectives.'

As soon as this was released I was off to Amazon to #oneclick, I read this in one sitting so straight away that should give you a clue of how much I enjoyed this one. What could a bad boy ex con have in common with a girl raised with a silver spoon in her mouth?

A swoon worthy addictive page turner, which had me hooked throughout!!

August and Rylee were just perfect for each other, she's had a secret crush on him going back to their school years, though they didn't run in the same circle she was always aware of him. He was the bad boy thug hooking up and chasing the easy money until it was only a matter of time when it would all come falling down around his ears, and that happens when he's incarcerated.

Rylee was the good girl, always keeping within the lines, never making waves, living the life her mother expected of her, her twin sister was the complete opposite, with a free spirit, but their bond was fierce.

Now that he's released and trying to turn a leaf when their paths cross he doesn't know what to do about it, a hot and cold demeanour, a push and pull tug of war, an undeniable attraction.

❝The old me was dangerous and unpredictable. I need to be a better me. Otherwise, I'll end up where I just left.❞

This was an amazing start to what I assume is going to be an outstanding series! Romance, Drama, Suspense! What more could us readers ask for!

130264911-1929233713886230-7077796774070155125-n

At times this had me in a fit of rage, god if I could jump inside my ipad and slap a bitch to Sunday I would gladly step in line behind many others I'm sure felt the same way as I did about her mother, even now my blood is boiling! And don't get me started on her douche bag cheating ex! God what was wrong with these people! This had my heart pumping with rage, loving the angsty stabby feels this created, these are the types of books I chase, ones that bring those angry stabby moments, the swoony moments, wanting me to coast on those moments longer so I'm eagerly awaiting the next instalment.

What I enjoyed the most about this was how the storyline flowed so flawlessly, making that connection with our main characters easy, I was infatuated with this story, never wanting it to end, just the right about of drama and spice, twists and turns which had me glued to my ipad, loving everything this author put into this book.

This is a must read, comes highly recommended by yours truly (5 thumbs up by me) 👍👍👍👍👍

Rich girl, bad boy, what more do you want???

I have to say, this series is off to a damn good start!! I was intrigued, entertained, swooning, and that was just from the first two chapters!! I read this in one sitting and when I tell you that I’m itching to see what’s going to happen next, I really am! My Beautiful Poison is a sexy, enemies to lovers , opposite attract romance that is going to leave you wanting so much more.

August and Rylee, Rylee and August, it doesn’t matter which way you put it because these two were made for each other. Rylee has always lived a very privileged life along with her twin sister but that has never mattered to her because she’s worked hard for everything. When the resident bad boy crosses her path and shakes things up in her life, Rylee learns a lot about the infamous August and she soon realizes that it’s not bad at all.

10502914.gif

I really enjoyed the first installment of this story and aside from a a character that made me stabby, my only complaint is that I wished it was a little bit longer and we were given some flashbacks into August’s past. Besides that, I really loved the banter between the two main characters. It was like foreplay for them and when they’re in a room together? Forget it!!

giphy-43.gif

If you’re curious about this series, I think it’s definitely worth trying. Besides, you can’t go wrong with a bad boy romance.

This was just an ok read for me.. one of my pet peeves in a book is when the heroine ends up being the one who is the main “chaser” of the hero. I prefer the man to be the one doing the chasing! Considering that, I ended up turned off with her always trying to hold his attention!

This is book one out of a duet, and me being me, I will need to read the conclusion of this duet! I just hope the hero takes charge and come gets his woman!!😂

"Rich guys, Rich girls.

You got the wealth of the world, your hearts sunken, your emotions empty.

Rich guys, rich girls, don't pretend you lack a heart.

Cause once upon a time, you cared the most when they all stomped on you hard."

I thank those who enjoyed/hated the poem I made above. Yes, it is written by yours truly.

I still need to improve obviously, but we all need a bit of improvement in our lives honestly.

So here I go. Onto the review.

Note: I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Trigger warnings: abuse, alcoholic addiction, prostitution, drugs, convict stories.

Rylee and August. Both intrigued me so much.

Also part of a more darker sense of a read. Nothing light, let me tell you. The trigger warnings should let you know that.

I enjoyed being in their world...despite needing a break from dark reads. August and Rylee, both so different. Different worlds, different families, different people overall.

Still they did not match the stereotypes that people around them had boxed them in. It was not like that all, and I enjoyed every moment of them breaking that mold and shocking everyone in the process.

The chemistry was off the charts obviously (as great reads usually are), the romance..was slightly heartbreaking (although Rylee was a tad too pushy for my taste), the writing utter perfection, and the characters truly relatable and roller-coaster like....I really miss them now...sigh.

August and Rylee got me in the feels, alright. Damn it.

And that fucking cliffhanger....gosh dang it, I need the second book already. Someone just hand me the second novel already.

I can't even anymore with reality.

Ta ta.

Until the next read,

A story that pulls you right in and leaves you wanting more. The convict and the rich girl. An unlikely match. He’ll fight her every step of the way. She’s relentless in her pursuit. No matter how hard he tries, he won’t be able to resist. This enemies to lovers romance is steamy and full of surprises.

August is finally free after six long years. He’s ready to start fresh and leave his past behind. His old life brought him nothing but trouble. The only problem is, his past doesn’t want to let him go.

Rylee comes from wealth, but she’s successful in her own right. She wants to make her own way. The only thing holding her back is her dirtbag fiance, Anderson. He insists they are meant to be, but all she wants is for him to let her go.

August was not part of her plan for a new life. He wants nothing to do with her, but she’s determined to be his friend. They forge an unlikely friendship even as August tries to push her away.

The past is coming for him and he doesn’t want her caught in the crossfire.

This story brings intense chemistry, conflict with both the past and the present, and a connection that may not he welcomed, but cannot be denied. He didn’t want her to love him. He’s a man that can’t see he is worthy and deserving of a happily ever after. It’s is a dark journey as his life has never been easy. This is just the beginning of their story and I cannot wait to see where the story takes us.

***5 "Alive again!!!" stars***

AVAILABLE NOW

"August is, and always will be, my beautiful poison. With one look, one glance, the poison manifests, spreads through your system and takes hold. And I'm a slave to it."

I might die waiting for the next book to come out, after how the things were left in here!!! I just need the next book... NOW!!!
This was my first time that I've ever read a book by T.L. Smith and I'm impressed!!! I loved the storyline, I loved all the characters with August and Rylee at the top, and I was intrigued at every turn.
I just couldn't stop reading!!! I wanted to devour it, even though I never wanted for the story to end!!!

"Tomorrow is the day I start living for me. Or so I keep telling myself."

What we had here???
A reformed bad boy.
A privileged rich girl.
An attraction out of charts.
And lots of shits to deal from both sides.
I just fell in love with August and Rylee and I'm craving more of them...

"I told you to stay away from me. I'm nothing but trouble."

August was the bad boy all of his life. When he was younger he got hooked with the wrong people and that landed him on jail for six long years. Now, he is back and he is trying to get his life back on track, but he will always be the bad guy on the town's eyes. And even though he is determined to not go back into his old ways, old faces are not letting him live in peace.

"The old me was dangerous and unpredictable. I need to be a better me. Otherwise, I'll end up where I just left."

Rylee is a privileged girl who seems to have it all... She is the golden child and she is about to make the next step with her highschool sweetheart. Or so everyone thinks. The truth is that Rylee is unhappy with her boyfriend who's hands are too long for her liking or any other woman's out there. She just wants to get away from this poisonous relationship, but everyone around her is against her and they are making her life miserable...

"It's all about the pressure. The pressure to be perfect. And this crushes my spirit and steals pieces of me every day. Anderson is right at the top of the list of pressure."

How August and Rylee will get in each other's path??? I won't really tell you, but I can assure you that these two in the same room were making my ovaries explode!!! From the first chapter I was hooked and I was patiently waiting how the things will work out between them.
August and Rylee were attracted to each other, but in the same time, they formed a weird kind of friendship who was putting balm in their souls...
They were just meant to be, even though everyone and everything was against them. But how good can this work for them when they have ton of troubles to face???

"You don't want this," he says but his hands won't leave my body. "It would be a grave mistake to want more from me... You're the rich girl from the right side of the tracks. I will be your worst mistake."
"Or my favorite one yet."

"Poison, that's what he is. My beautiful poison. And I must stay away. Men like him aren't right for women like me."

I loved August so much!!! Yes, I have a weakness toward bad boys, but August wasn't that bad. He was sweet and caring and considerate... He tried really hard to not want Rylee. He knew that he wasn't right for her, and he tried really hard to push her away, but that girl was sooo insisted to get into his life and heart and make a home at it!!!

"I'm bad for you. I would taint you, and you would enjoy it to the point where you keep coming back for more because you couldn't stop when we both know you should."

"She wants things I have never given. Things no one has ever asked from me before. And I quite simply don't know how to give them."

Rylee had much pressure upon her and I'm blaming her darn mother. Gawd! I hated that woman!!! Rylee wasn't immune to August's charm even from back onthe days of highschool and now, she is in a point to her life that she needs to make drastic changes and August is there, looking delicious and doing the gentlemanly thing that noone else did for her!!! She just can't stay away from him, even though he is not missing a chance to push her away and I loved that she wasn't backing down!!

"I know what the devil really looks like, and usually, he's dressed to impress and ready to kill. It's those types of men who hurt women. Not him. Not August. Not once I have felt unsafe around him or that he could cause me harm in any way."

"You aren't the villain in my story, August. So stop pretending you need to be."

Well, these two were perfect for each other, even though they were very different in every aspect. Their interactions were effortless and the air was buzzing with electricity between them.
But they are living in a cruel world. A cruel world that wants them apart and now, I'm dying to read the rest of the story... I need more August and more Rylee in my life!
Also, thank God for small miracles in here... Some of the secondary characters were evil, but there were some very good people in here and I loved them for all their support...
Yes, this story could characterized as a simple one, but for a reason it got under my skin, so 5 stars from me!!!

"We both knew it could never work. That we can't ever work. We are from two different sides of the tracks. And no matter how hard I try, I can never make it over to your side."

What a way to bring in the new year with finding myself snuggled into my little reading corner with this perfection of a book.

This author ceases to amaze me with every book that releases. They are so incredibly thought out, the storyline’s are phenomenal and they are packing with the heat. Not to mention they feature some of the strongest female heroines and the baddest hero’s who could either be the villian or not.

In this case, as much as we crave the villains. In this story he wasn’t, he was the guy that gave her the chance to breathe again and she was the girl who made him feel whole again and to see what real love could truly be like when being given the chance to.

This book had absolutely everything and if not more when it comes to things that I look for in books. It had second chance romance vibes, forbidden love and opposites attract. These are a few of my troupes that I go for when it comes to picking out what’s next to read.

Everything played out so perfectly that when I got to the end, I was cursing this author for leaving me on that cliffhanger, I need to know what happens next for these two characters as they deserve each other’s love.

This book was definitely action packed that is for sure, these two characters have their fair share of troubles that they need to conquer but some are just not as easily said as done. Their is a lot of push and pull that slowly brews between these characters when their feelings become involved. From something that turned out to being just about sex, it turned into something so much bigger that none of them could deny. It was inevitable.

Every time these two were in the same room as each other, you could feel this tension that was rapidly becoming more stronger after each interaction. When you think about it, you could explain it as a type of foreplay, it was the build up to the real thing coming out to play.

There is so much to be said about this book that I think that you as the reader should go into this book and just enjoy the ride that it takes you on.

"My Beautiful Poison" is the first book of the "Wicked Poison" Duet by the best-selling author T.L. Smith. Told in dual perspectives , get ready to meet August and Rylee!

August is the male protagonist of this story. Fresh out of jail for a crime he was set up for , all he needs is revenge. A girl is definitely not on his radar. But things change the moment he sees Rylee. Innocent and so tempting , she forces him to break all his rules and perseu her instead. When he gets to know the pain she is going through , there is nothing that will stop him from making her whole again.

Rylee is the female protagonist of this story. Her boyfriend is an abuser and she has gone through so much. None of her family members believe her and still want her to marry him. All she wants is a bit of light in her dull life. That is when she meets August. He was the most beautiful thing she had ever seen even with his brooding expression. They clicked together and now all they had was to overcome their ghosts of the past.

A definite recommendation to all the dark Romance lovers!! The book ends up in a CLIFFHANGER and was written amazingly! I can't wait for the next installment!

This is a definite must read of 2020! Rylee Harley is trapped in an abusive relationship and wants nothing more than to escape. She just doesn’t want to disappoint her wealthy family in the process. When someone she hasn’t seen since high school appears at a party, he might just be the salvation she needs to survive. August Trouble has a sketchy past and went away for a long time but he is back now. Trying to readjust to life outside of prison, will he be able to move forward or will his past come back to haunt him? Can Rylee & August somehow find a friendship between one another? Will she break free from Anderson? What a gripping yet entertaining story that I could not put down! Oh August! He is a naughty one and I’m all for it! This is the perfect good girl/bad boy opposites attract, enemies to lovers romance with a side of suspense. Their banter back and forth will have you turning the pages for more! This ends in a major cliffhanger and I cannot wait to see what will happen. Told in dual POV

I'm dreading for the next book...

“You’re the rich girl from the right side of the tracks. I will be your worst mistake.” - August Trouble

“You’re delusional,” he says with a cackle that sounds almost evil.

“No, I’m just a stupid girl in love with an even stupider boy.” - Rylee Harley

This story broke my heart. August just can't catch a break. He has a troubled past but he's such a good guy even if he doesn't believe it.

Rylee is a breath of fresh air. Funny, determined, hard working, knows what and who she wants. Her story isn't perfect, she has her own demons but she's trying.

Their path is filled with many roadblocks. I want so much for these characters. I swear they take one step forward then three steps back. Ugh, so frustrating.

This book had my attention from the very first page. I fell in love with the story/characters. So very interesting and my heart wants more. I need book 2 soon. 😭♥️

RICH GIRL + BAD BOY = HOT MESS **3.5 stars**

“Poison, that’s what he is. My beautiful poison. And I must stay away.”

That’s just ridiculous because she chases after his dick like it was world-class sport for a gold medal. No heroine has ever chased a boy so hard. I kept expecting her to pull that old Popeye and Olive Oyl schtick of throwing her hands in the air and screaming “It’s a maaaan!” He didn’t need to lift a finger. It was a novel surprise, but NOTHING deters her from getting in his pants. Funny that she’s just dumped a 5 year, abusive relationship with the worst guy you could ever meet, and falls in insta-lust with an ex-con bad boy. I’d say she has a “type.” Actually, she crushed on him in high school, but still … he’s seriously from the wrong side of the wrong side of the tracks and she’s rich. Nothing goes right.

Riley’s a lookalike twin (why, is there another book tie-in?), virtually town royalty, and smitten with just-released ex-con August Trouble. You heard that right – Trouble is trouble. What kinda name is that? Not a nickname either. August (18) was framed by his ex-boss (the town’s notorious and sadistic drug dealer) and sent to the slammer for 6 years. Now he’s back home getting on with life on the low in inherited digs. Sounds like things are turning around, but there’s bad blood with the drug dealer and interference from Riley’s family demanding that she marry the jerky ex for the terrible reasons.

The background was interesting, but the story’s all about Riley chasing the “D”. The rest of the drama is an afterthought. She seriously needs peen therapy. Mostly, they get interrupted too soon, or August won’t give in because they’re a bad match and he's the boy no one ever loved. His family’s a dumpster fire, but he loves his half-sis who’s in teen love with Riley’s youngest bro. See how fast things get complicated?

The setup was appetizing because I adore bad boy/good girl romances and actually was very intrigued by strong and silent August, but the author should have invested more time in crafting the story. It’s rushed, skims over time jumps, trots out characters from nowhere just when they’re needed, and does a poor job of setups. For a “good girl” -- (he calls her “rich girl” (love it) -- Rylee seriously needs to get laid. When the crap hits the fan and the end takes a dramatic turn, it flies out of nowhere. Dramarama just when the lovers finally ended up on the same page.

Other issues didn’t make sense. Referring to a woman’s “soulless eyes” or dark “devil eyes” is not a compliment. Dude, WTF are you talking about? Also, he’s only 24 (seems older) and she’s only 22, yet she’s a professional accountant for YEARS. August’s major bedroom skills were only honed between ages 15-18 before prison. Oookay. Since he's been in prison all this time, how would he know about other characters' behaviors while he was gone? The drug dealer’s been living with August’s mom for years, but he also has a cruel abusive streak with ALL “his women”. What women? And, what happened to a setup of Noah (the beau of the twin sis) championing August's case for prison release. I enjoyed the tease and heat between them, but the shortchanged story not so much. I won’t read the 2nd book My Wicked Heart unless on sale.

“This isn’t finished. You aren’t the villain in my story, August. So stop pretending you need to be.”

Incredible. So so good. I‘ve read this in almost one sitting.
I was like let‘s try maybe it‘s good and without me really noticing I had finished the book.
August and Rylee are such likeable characters. They just flowed and I absolutely adored them. Same with the story. I just flew through it and everything felt somehow right and fitting.

Loving the bad boy

Gripping from the first page, and this one certainly pulled me in. A story of an untypical pair; he, ex-convict from the wrong side of the tracks, broken family; and she, well-to-do, professionally successful, good family. But opposites attract. I enjoyed reading their budding and mature romance. In this tale, Rhylee, vulnerable yet confident, went after her chosen man, August, whether against her family, a society who shunned him, or August himself. I was happy to read a heroine who not only had skills in the boardroom but also in the bedroom. This was a couple who approached a sexual relationship as equals, with the Rhylee not faltering in pursuit in August.

Lots of intrigue in this story, some underground revisited and shady characters from the past along with questionable familial ties, some tight, some broken. Loved the two main characters, Rhylee and August -- and what a cool name! August was one of those big alpha, bad boys all the nice (and not so nice) girls secretly want. Rhylee and August's attraction just burned the pages, tangible, unbidden. There was a fair amount of steam in this book. I taken in by the supporting characters -- Rhianna, Noah, Paige, Beckham; as well as the not so nice ones as they added angst and drama to the story. Pace was excellent as well as flow. I finished this story unwittingly, and that cliffhanger, gutting!

Would I describe this story as new? Not necessarily, but what it had was great characters, a fluid and mature storyline that were a nice change from the younger reads as well as the very dark books I typically read. Additionally, that steam and grittiness just under the surface of acceptable social veneer made for an excellent story. 4.5 stars

Rylee wants out of her abusive relationship with her fiancé when she sees August again. He was the bad boy when they were in school, and it seems he hasn't changed in that respect. But even though he's an ex-con, Rylee sees something in him that draws her and makes her want to be his friend, to be around him. But August knows there's no room in either of their lives for an ex-con to be with a rich princess'. Rylee's persistence, her sweet nature can't help but attract him, though. But is he meant to be more than just a moment in her life? Or will his past come a calling and suck him right back in to where Rylee cannot reach him any longer?
"No, I was merely a moment in time. Passing by like a night star. We both knew it would never work. That we can't ever work. We are from two different sides of the tracks. And no matter how hard I try, I can never make it over to your side."

I was so caught up in these two and their developing story. Their opposites attract, witty dialogue and the snark, the freaking snark was awesome. And the chemistry was positively electric, 3 alarm fire kind of electric. I wanted it to continue forever and then that awful cliffhanger happened. I was really pissed even though I knew a cliffie was coming, considering this is just book 1. I am counting down the days until My Wicked Heart now!

My poor heart! TL Smith I expect nothing less from you but it still doesn't change the effect it had. Rylee and Austin's story is so beautifully broken. My heart is still in tears.

Rylee is finding herself. She's just moved out of her parent's house. Her mother is controlling and pushing her towards and man she doesn't want or who deserves her. Austin enters the picture after he is released from prison. Noah is Rhianna's, (Rylee's twin sister) boyfriend and also Austin's lawyer. While Austin isn't really the type to have friends Noah is as close to a friend as he can get. Austin is rough around the edges and underneath is hard exterior is actually a heart.

Austin's past is bad. A drug addict mother, who cares more about drugs than her children. She's with the man who ended up getting Austin sent to prison. He has a half sister named Paige who he would do anything for. While Austin wants to push Rylee away, Rylee wants to pull him closer. She's drawn to him for a reason she may not be absolutely sure of.

Wicked Poison had me hooked from start to finish. I read this book straight through without stopping. While I knew this book was part of a duet while I was reading I completely forgot. Then I got to the end and remembered it was a duet and cussed TL Smith like it was my job. She once again left me broken and wanting to cry. That cannot be the ending that Rylee and Austin get. That cliffhanger might be the worse one you've done to me. Either that or it's the freshest pain and I'm still feeling it.

T.L. Smith delivered this beautifully written book. Her words were just perfect. I loved Rylee and Austin. Their relationship was this push/pull that just had me hooked. Smith did such an amazing job with these characters. Austin's hard exterior and past experience cause him to be this mystery that draws us in. While we can see why he is how he is there is still so much we don't know. I NEED so many answers!!!!

My Beautiful Poison is just amazing! I have no words for how much I loved this book! It was just perfect! It's a must read!

She's the girl who comes from money, but with it comes expectations and unhappiness.

He's the big bad wolf who lives on the wrong side of the tracks.

They shouldnt know each other but they do, and she shouldn't encourage him when he's not from her world.

But should she always do what others tell her to do...?

Oh wow, what an amazing read!!

Its about realising when something is detrimental to both your heart and your health, being courageous, and letting your heart be your guide.

Not everything is black and white in life there are so many shades of grey and this book explores that.

Rylee is an amazing character. Her strength is admirable, and her heart so honest and true.

August isn't what everyone thinks he is. But he does have a caged darkness within him. When the beast is unleashed the mighty fall and oh my it's a majestical sight to behold!

The angst, the want, lust and need all combine to make an unforgettable read.

hold onto your hats folks for it's a bumpy ride! and the cliffy ending is not going to be pretty!

I need more of August and Rylee, and by gosh I need it NOW!

My Beautiful Poison is book one in the Wicked Poison series by T.L. Smith. I was sold on this book right from the blurb. Just those few sentences captivated me and started that sweet aching need for the whole story. I waited up for this release, and as soon as it was up I devoured it.

The dynamic between the two main characters was teeth clenching intensity. Rough, raunchy and risque, My Beautiful Poison was impossible to put down and unforgettable. 50% bad boy, 50% feisty girl. 100% immaculate goodness. Their story was flawed but genuine. Their love real and soul deep. Their chemistry all consuming. Beginning to end, this story was enveloped in beauty, difficulty and fulfillment. T.L. Smith epitomises dark, edgy and dramatic romances. Her delivery, on point. Her execution, utter perfection. 5 stars

This story took me on one emotional rollercoaster ride.
I started it and just could not put it down.
But as I was reaching the end of it.
I was afraid and scared to reach that point.
Knowing it was going to take a path that would probably break my heart.
And that’s exactly what happened.
August has never had luck on his side.
Raised by a neglectful mother.
She never showed him any type of affection.
She never provided even the basic of necessities.
He was left to defend and depend on himself.
That lead August to go down the wrong path.
But there is so much more to him than what he’s “known for.”
Rylee is the good little rich girl.
She’s the golden child in her family.
Until she finally realizes she deserves more than what she is living.
Once she does that girl just soars.
Rylee spreads her wings and flies high.
Her spirit and spunk start to shine and glow.
I loved Rylee for seeing “the more” in August.
I adored her stubbornness and her persistence.
I loved seeing August getting to experience care and affection for the first time.
But Lady Luck turns her back on August once again.
August and Rylee are the perfect fit for one another.
They are each other’s missing puzzle piece that make up the whole.
Even though they are totally opposite in every way possible.
Sometimes that’s actually the magic that’s needed.
Because there are no illusions or deceptions.
Ms. Smith gives well developed characters.
With detailed enough descriptions of their pasts.
So that the reader is on pins and needles.
Yeah that ending broke my heart to pieces.
But I’m hoping the next book will start to put those pieces back together again.
Btw I hate Poppy!

The first book in a new duet and T.L. Smith has once again introduced me to characters I am slightly obsessed with. When Rylee Harley the rich girl meets August Trouble again I felt the sparks. Although August isn't exactly rushing to give into the chemistry and he can be a little moody I fell head over heals for this deep man who is trying to put his life back together. August has many layers he is the town pariah, the ex con, the protective brother and he is also the man who loves deeply. Rylee made me to want to shake her just as much as I wanted to protect her and I was willing her to show the courage I knew she had in her. I really enjoyed these two together the banter the connection the sexual tension all makes them an interesting duo. When August's past and present collide everything he's working hard to overcome will be in jeopardy. A warning this ends on big cliffhanger with book two coming very soon.

This cliffhanger killed me and the next book can’t come out soon enough. Rylee and August are total opposites in how they grew up but at the same time there also each other’s solace. Rylee played by the rules to keep up appearances and she also didn’t want to rock the boat even if it meant staying with her disgusting boyfriend when but she finally starts to see the light, she also sees August and it’s like bam for them both even though she try’s to keep her away. He’s trying to straighten his life and doesn’t need to get off course but Rylee is a force. To bad it’s never that easy is it lol, things get messy at the end of this book!

Book 1 in the Wicked Poison series. What a great introduction! Rylee is a feisty little thing determined to do things her way, despite her annoying mother. August is looking for a second chance in life and to better himself. These two are a power house of emotions and you don’t know if they are coming or going. They are so connected physically and emotionally that expressing how they feel is impossible. I’m enjoying how different their families are but in reality they are very similar. Rylee and August are an incredible support for each other. This is definitely an emotional read I can’t wait to read the next book!

I loved this opposites attract romance novel by best selling author T.L. Smith ! This author never seems to fail in writing addicting stories that I love to get lost in ! I loved August and Rylee so much I mean come on rich girl falls for bad boy storyline yesss please! I was hooked after the first couple pages and August oh boy is he hot ! I can’t wait for the next book in this duet I need answers! This is a definite five star read and I highly recommend anything by this author but if you are looking for a good opposites attract good girl falls for bad boy romance you have to read Rylee and August’s journey . In this book we see Rylee grow and August learns to open up but they have obstacles to overcome and something happens at the end that seems impossible for them to overcome that cliffhanger is painful . 😭 This was very well written and I can’t wait for the next installment to this amazing duet !
