Erdogan addressed a Muslim American Society audience on video, and reiterated his pledge to work towards a unified Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital and Israel confined to its pre-1967 borders. The ’67 borders are also known as the Auschwitz borders, because Israel will not be able to defend itself from obliteration should it return to those borders. And according to the charters of all the major Palestinian organizations, a one-state solution the goal — that is, the complete destruction of Israel. The Palestinian goal has been encapsulated in the common chant, “From the river (Jordan) to the (Mediterranean) sea, Palestine will be free”; Israel will be obliterated from the Jordan to the Mediterranean.
Erdogan also accused Israel of injustice and genocide against “our Palestinian brothers.”
The Obama administration declared the 1967 borders as the “starting point” of a peace deal. A Biden administration is prepared to resurrect the same policy.
Erdogan also told his Muslim American Society audience that “meanness” toward Muhammad is “far removed” from “freedom of thought.” In other words, he was saying that non-Muslims should abide by Sharia blasphemy laws. According to the Sharia, “meanness” toward Muhammad constitutes blasphemy, and the offender is worthy of death.
“Turkey’s Erdogan reiterates pledge to work towards an independent Palestine,” Middle East Monitor, November 30, 2020:
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Saturday reiterated his pledge to continue working towards the establishment of an independent, sovereign and unified Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital within the 1967 borders.
In a video message to the 23rd annual convention of the Muslim American Society, Erdogan said: “The Turks must defend the rights of Jerusalem, even with their lives”, stressing that it is “the honour of the Islamic nation”.
“We work through all forums to defend the issue of Jerusalem. We are working with all our strength to end the occupation’s policies, injustice and genocide against our Palestinian brothers,”….

That’s why I say – the US, Israel and even the Arabs have been paying undue attention to Iran, while ignoring a far greater threat to Mid East stability – Turkey! And they continue to do that at their own peril

Your point is well taken, Infidel.
Two questions regarding Iran and Turkey / Middle East stability:
1. Which of the two is the more immediate threat?
2. Which of the two is more of a long-term threat?
Infidel says
1. Turkey
2. Turkey
Iran stopped being a threat this year once shi’a attitudes towards them soured. Early this year, shi’a pilgrims to Qum, Iran were the main vectors of the Chinavirus back in their home countries, and their attitudes towards Iran soured as a result. Also, Arab shi’a started resenting Iranian interference in their affairs, be it in Iraq or Lebanon (somehow, the fact that Iran didn’t bankroll them for free didn’t occur to them), which is why Hizbullah’s popularity among the shi’a in Lebanon plummeted, as did the popularity of pro-Iran shi’a parties in Iraq, who lost to anti-Iran shi’a parties there. It also explains why Iraq’s government publicly denounced the assassination of Soleimani but privately told the US that it was just for public consumption
Add to that the fact that Iran’s economy has been in a free fall. That was bad enough, but the fact that Iran’s soft power in terms of willing shi’a agents in Arab countries now no longer support them is a more serious weakening of their power. I do think it’s a matter of time before the Iranian regime implodes
Turkey in the meantime is stronger than ever. First of all, since they’re still in NATO, they’re still looked at as an ally, and nobody questions what they are doing (Pompeo’s statement yesterday on them was a first). They have access to both US and Russian military tech, as well as the US base in Incirlik. Unlike Iran, there are no international economic or military sanctions on Turkey (although France is said to be looking at it for both Turkey and Pakistan)
Then there’s the fact that Turkey has quietly replaced Iran as the main sponsor of sunni jihadist groups that the Saudis have been against, like the Muslim brotherhood. Until some years ago, Iran used to be the main sponsor of groups like the Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas, Boko Haram and so on: suddenly, Turkey’s taken over pretty easily, since they are sunni and therefore more compatible than the shi’a Iranians. Turkey has also been winning over countries like Somalia, Yemen, Qatar*, Malaysia and Pakistan, and been projecting itself as a champion of the ummah
On top of all that, Turkey even has Russia in a bind. All of the -stans except one (Tajikistan) are Turkic countries, and Erdogan has started an organization called the Turkic Council to promote Turkic racial greatness. As a result, Russia is now very careful about not rubbing him the wrong way: not only can Turkey cut off Russian shipping from the Black Sea, but they can also increase their influence w/ the Kazakhstans and make things really awkward for Moscow
So w/ the geographic influence they have – from Malaysia to Kazakhstan to Pakistan to Somalia, Turkey has a sphere of influence that even their Ottoman forebears would have been proud of. They are the 2nd most lethal rival to the US after China, and ahead of even Russia. Iran doesn’t even hold a tiki torch to them!
* Qatar finally seems to be fixing relations w/ the Saudis and the Emirates thanks to Jared Kushner. I just hope that it requires Qatar shutting off the cash spigot to both Iran and Turkey as well as Muslim Brotherhood groups, and also stopping al Jazeera from being the world’s jihad TV network
James Lincoln says
Infidel,
Thank you for your detailed reply – lots of great information…

I understand that some of the drones recently used by Azerbaijan/Turkey against Armenia/Artsakh originated in Israel.
Surely this is evidence that “Judeo-Christian” civilization, an idea promoted by JW, is nothing but a fiction.
gravenimage says
You may sneer at Judeo-Christian values, but this does not mean that good Anti-Jihadists here do.
That Israel at one time sold arms to Azerbaijan is foolish and regrettable–that this one act somehow renders Judeo-Christian values moot is another matter.
glendl says
The basis of Western Civilization is Judeo-Christian. That was well established before JW.
Anyone who believes otherwise, needs some remedial courses in history.

USA supports Israel… Israel supports Turkey/Azerbaijan… Turkey/Azerbaijan ATTACK Armenia/Artsakh.
Think about it: American tax dollars (largely from Christians) are indirectly funding the annihilation of one of the last remaining Christian nation-states in the region!
US citizens should re-examine their (rather one-sided) relationship with Israel, and attach a lot more strings to any support they send to it.
David Hersch says
The drones referred to above were supplied when Israel and Turkey were friendly. This is no longer the case.
Erdogan is getting too big for his boots playing all sides. Turkey is financial stressed and militarily over extended. He is using his alleged Islamic promotion to further his ambition to become a Sultan/Caliph of the Sunni world. I don’t think Saudi Arabia will allow this and the Islamic holy places are in Saudi Arabia.
glendl says
I believe Erdogan wishes to recreate the Ancient Ottoman Empire, just like the Iranians want to recreate the Ancient Persian Empire.
That will not happen in its entirety because there was plenty of overlap, Egypt will have something to say about that. you mentioned the 2 holy cities. The Turks still cry about the loss their lovely, ‘Buda’ & ‘Pest’.
= Do you think the Turks will head toward Vienna again? There are a lot of Moslems scattered throughout that area and could serve as an advance force or 5th columnists.
