My name is Jace London,
And I may have screwed up.

I’ve always been the guy who had it all.
Privilege, entitlement, and a life of luxury.
But after one college night gone tragically wrong,
Nothing has ever been the same.

Everyone thinks I should be happy.
With a trust fund like mine, who could be sad?
But no one knows what’s going on with me,
Or the nightmares that keep me awake at night.

I finally found salvation in a parent’s worst nightmare.
The only thing to ease the pain just enough to breathe.
My friends are worried I’m going to ruin myself.
What they don’t realize, is I’m already dead inside.

Now they’re ready to pull out all the stops,
Including a therapist that gets paid an ungodly price.
No amount of money can bring back the guy I was,
But the girl that got away might be enough to try.

Gorgeous, strong, and confident to a fault.
If anyone can save me from myself, it’s her.

Change My Game is a standalone and part of the North Haven University series. It deals with sensitive topics that may be triggering for some readers.

➽ KITTY KATS CRAZY ABOUT BOOKS

CHANGE MY GAME: is a full-length standalone, second chance romance and part of the 'North Haven University Series' by Kelsey Clayton. Spoken in 'dual perspectives.' Get ready for childhood friends Jace and Paige's story.

Anything by this author and I crave it like my next breath, even though it arrived on my kindle in 2020 I wanted to wait until the new year before I became reacquainted with my kindle, because this book was one I was anticipating like no other. And what a way to see it in!! Before the day turned to night I'd finished this.

This book was overly heartbreaking a rollercoaster of emotional upheaval as I became immersed in these characters daily struggles. The storyline was written sensitively and beautifully, I connected with both our main characters like it was intended. I felt their pain like it was my own. A deeply moving journey of self discovery and healing.

Both our characters are going through traumatic experiences which left me shattered and drained and floundering in the emotions this wrung out of me.

Jace and Paige along with Carter used to be best friends, then Jace and Paige started mucking around with each other, one phone call changed all that though and Paige's college life was cut short, without saying goodbye to Jace she fled back to her home town to spend what time her father had left.

Jace is spiralling down a dark tunnel which has him careening out of control popping whatever he can get his hands on to numb everything after witnessing a tragic accident which changed him irrevocably where he starts going down a path that no one saw him taking least of all his best friend Carter.

135517363-439866467391733-4615448731753031253-n

Paige has to stay strong for her mother as she deals with the impact of what life will be like without her childhood sweetheart, severing this family dynamic drastically when her husband and the best father Paige could've ever asked for comes to an end.

Jace can't afford to let his walls down again where Paige is concerned, but Carter is a force to be reckoned with knowing that these two need each other now more than ever.

Being around Jace for the first time in a year and a half
is a shock to my system.
It's like I went eighteen months without food
and now there is a massive feast laid out in front of me,
only the feast is blocked by a giant glass wall.
I guess that's what I get for leaving him the way I did. ❞

If you've had your eye on this series and haven't taken that leap yet, this comes highly recommended by yours truly (4 thumbs up by me) 👍👍👍👍

Woah. I knew Change My Game would be intense- that this would be a painful and emotional ride. Kelsey has promised us a darker, more painful story- and we got it! But wow, this was not the journey I expected for Jace- it was even better. Jace had me all tied up in knots, and his love story had me in tears more than once. Turbulent, emotionally intense, and heart wrenching, Change My Game is a second chance love story about heartbreak and healing, a story both devastating and hopeful, a story that captivates and consumes. I could not put this one down.

Last we saw Jace, he was clearly in trouble- associating with shady people, angry and withdrawn, and at North Haven as the result of mysterious circumstances. We were right to be concerned- Jace is in a dark and scary place- even his light hearted best friend Carter notices. When their old best friend from childhood, Paige, also finds herself back home under painful circumstances, Carter sees a chance to help his friend- by reconnecting Jace with the girl that got away, the girl that ghosted Jace just as their love story was beginning. But this does not bode well, because Jace isn’t interested in reconnecting, and both characters are in so much emotional pain that things may very well backfire. Because the baggage is HEAVY.

Jace, oh my sweet, broken Jace. We’ve seen Jace at many phases- we’ve seen him through the eyes of others in high school and college- and we’ve slowly watched him spiral down a dark path. When we first see the college Jace, he’s not the boy we knew or loved- he’s a stranger. Practically a dead man walking- a shell of himself, clearly in pain, and clearly consumed by it. But we’d not been in his mind, we’d need seen his true heart- and here, we do. And he is devastating. Because Jace has a secret- one I never saw coming, and one that has fundamentally altered him. Kelsey does a beautiful job of slowly unravelling this character- letting us into his heart and mind as he vacillates between self-destruction and healing, between rock bottom and redemption. Of all her leading men, Jace has been through the most, and he may also be the most flawed- which makes for such a rich hero’s journey, because Kelsey gives us the most emotional range with Jace. We drown with him- even when he’s shut down and stoic, we’re overcome by his emotional trauma. The man behind all the pain is a beautiful soul- vulnerable, lonely, grasping for hope and connection. Jace has to come to terms with his past, with his worthiness, and he has to find a path to regrasp who he is. And his connection with Paige- their shared history, their beautiful and natural connection, is the perfect catalyst.

To be honest, I barely remembered Paige- but oh my, what a beautiful creature she is. Kelsey is giving us something totally different with her. This is a heroine who is more subtle- she’s calm, logical, admirably level headed despite all the stuff that is coming her way with Jace and her family. She’s so devoted, so patient and empathetic- making her the perfect match for Jace, a man who challenges everyone around them, a man who requires deep understanding. Of all of Kelsey’s heroine’s, she seems the most mature, the most grounded. She’s got some vulnerability, but she’s also sassy- and this girl is strong. She’s someone who sacrifices, and in this story, she sacrifices.

The connection between these two is so authentic- simple but somehow complicated, magnetic but also subtle. Kelsey builds a chemistry grounded in the years these two have known each other. We don’t waste time having them get to know each other- they DO already- this is more about them reconciling their past, and figuring out how to grow together instead of apart. How to empower each other vs. enable.

Their love story is really one about emotional baggage- about the healthy, or here unhealthy, ways we learn to cope and process pain, the ways in which we seek to protect our hearts from potential harm and the ways we try to heal it once it's been harmed. Jace and Paige have made real mistakes in doing that- out of fear, immaturity, insecurity, or even solitude. These two are characters who have faced or are facing intensely painful situations- ones that alter the course of their lives- and they are suffering. Part of maturing is learning that pain is inevitable- what matters isn’t avoiding it, it's how we handle it when it greets us. And Paige and Jace have a steep learning curve, because even when they find solace in each other, they aren’t yet healthily coping.

I love how Kelsey is distinguishing this series from the Haven Grace prep. Sure, this series is darker, the stakes feel higher and the drama feels more threatening, larger even. But thematically, I love how this is a series about maturity- about the delicate and precarious emotional evolution that happens when you go from being a kid to being an adult. Emotional intelligence, owning your “ish,” taking responsibility for yourself, becoming proactive in charting your own journey- this is a series about growing up in the face of intense adversity.

I can’t end this review without mentioning Carter. I know there are some real Carter fans, but I’ve always been on the fence about him. What Kelsey does with him in this story is beautiful- the man we see here is not the boy we knew. I love how Kelsey has been giving us parallel stories in this series so far- the love story of two lovers, and the love story behind this group of friends. Carter shows up in a big way- and I am not ravenous for his story. Just the brilliance of Kelsey- she keeps taking characters that we thought we knew and understood and helping us see them with fresh eyes. Our favorite high schoolers are adults now, and there are layers to them we can’t yet even begin to understand. But, we will- and I have a feeling Carter is going to blow me away.

“Change My Game” is the second book in the “North Haven University” series by the author Kelsey Clayton. Told in dual perspectives , get ready to meet Jace and Paige!

Ever since I read that ending in the last book of the series , I knew Jace’s story was going to be an all time favourite of mine. And this book stood up to every one of my expectations ! Jace has one hell of a tale to tell you and there is no way you can miss this high school romance tale !

Paige and Jace were once best friends. That is until things became so much more between them and Paige left without any explanation. Jace was broken. Now years later , Jace is in his own hell , still tormented by the events of his past. He finds his solace in Drugs and addictions and is constantly destroying his life. His best friend Carter can’t see his pain any longer and decides to call Paige who has always been Jace’s Rock. If there is anyone who can bring him back , it’s her. But jace is not that happy to be back with her. He has never recovered from the way she shunned her and he is not that glad to reconcile with her.

Paige has always loved Jace. Being away from him was hell for her but it was the only sensible thing at that time. Now she is back to help him out , if only Jace could see it that way, he hates her and she is the last person ,whose help she wants. But this time she is not going away. This time she is going to find out what is wrong and make it right for him , no matter how much he keeps on hating her, Soon boundaries are crossed and his hate turns to something else., But Jace has a bad past , the one that keeps him up at night and makes him take solace in drugs. And that past is now back to destroy him all of a sudden.

The book was full of twists and turns and that last plot twist was really good! I am so excited to read the next book of the series and now that I know who will have that book , I am even more crazy! I just know it is going to be epic and I am losing my mind here. A definite recommendation to all the High School Second Chance Romance lovers here!

Jace London is hitting rock bottom and all he wants is to numb the pain and the memories at any cost. But his best friend isn't about to lose him just yet, even if it means bringing in one last resort, the girl who left Jace without any explanation, Paige McAllister.

Second-chance romances are my favorite trope, but that wasn't even the whole reason why I loved this book. This story was so emotional and felt so real and raw at times, that it was impossible not to connect with these characters and what they were going through.

Paige had a lot on her plate, but she was there anyway ready to help who she once loved, as a heroine she was calm, patient, empathetic, sensitive, adorable, but also so damn strong. Jace, on the other hand, was a conflicted character. There was so much good in him, but the secret he was carrying was literally killing him. He just needed a little push, something to hold onto to get his life back on track.

And there is also friendship. Carter, Jace's best friend, was literally willing to do anything to get his brother out of that dark place he was in. His methods may be a bit questionable, but you cannot doubt the love between them.

And the arrival of THAT character at the end... poor Carter, I can't wait for the other installments in this series! (and also Easton and Kennedy?? they got like just one mention here, but I want a book about them soooo bad).

An emotional, second chance romance that twisted me up, left me in tears, but gave me the happily ever after I craved. This was a tumultuous romance between a couple who were both facing heart wrenching life changes. It was a one sitting read for me as these characters sucked me in and I was completely invested in their story.

Jace is spiraling. His life is spinning out of control. Carter needs help trying to get his best friend back on track, so he reached out to Paige. She was the girl Jace let get away. He knows she's the only one that can give him a reason to save himself. The three of them used to be best friends, but when Paige left for college, she left Jace behind...before he could leave her.

Jace has been barely living over the past year. A devastating accident left him reeling. He's turning to anything that makes the pain go away. Carter feels like he's losing his best friend but is at the end of his rope. She's his last hope to save him.

Paige left her hometown for a college far away two years ago. She wanted to start anew and she left her heart behind. Jace and her were only hooking up at the end of high school. She knew she was the girl that wanted more than the guy she was seeing, so when she left she ghosted him. It as easier to leave him then watch them break apart because of distance and life. Besides, she never thought he wanted anything more.

A family illness has brought Paige back home. Now the life she left and the way she left, has come back to haunt her. Carter wants her help with Jace. Too bad Jace wants nothing to do with the girl who left him. It's going to be an uphill climb. However, walking away a second time is something she doesn’t think she'll survive.

Both Jace and Paige are suffering. Him from the past and her from the fear of losing two of the most important men in her life. Their love is passionate and borderline obsessive. It consumes them to the point of being toxic until Paige gets her wake up call. Jace loves her but he craves escape more at times and knows how to manipulate her. Her love has no boundaries, so she loses her way. Walking away may be the only way to save him. Jace will need to fight for what he wants.

The story and their struggles are intense. The author will definitely tear your heart right in two. I felt their pain and cried with them. This story tackled addiction, loss, tragedy and an endless love. It was also an epic bromance between friends that would do anything for the other and the love of a woman that stole his heart long ago. So many poignant moments that will give you so many feels. And a special treat was having our favorite couples from Haven Grace Prep make appearances in Jace and Paige's story. I cannot wait for Carter's story.

My first read of the new year came out SWINGING, and I'm all here for it!! Kelsey warned us that this book was darker and way more intense than we're used to reading from her, and the woman was not playing around by any means. I have read and loved all of this authors work, but this book, these two soulmates, are her BEST work.

Through the Grace Haven Prep series, we've seen Jace grow up through the eyes of our other beloved characters, but he's in such a dark place. He is literally just a walking corpse, and the only time he can make himself feel anything besides the never-ending sea of loneliness and pain is when he's high. Everyone close to him can see through the thinly veiled facade Jace portrays of acting like he has everything control, so when his best friend Carter helps him reconnect with the girl who got away, things really start to get intense, and FAST.

Paige is one of the most level - headed, rational, genuinely sweet characters this author has ever written. She's do devoted and empathetic, and is exactly what Jace needs. She's back in town after being gone for two years, but just like Jace, she has her own dark baggage weighing on her. She is in immense pain herself, but she's still doing everything she can to make Jace see that drugs is not the answer, and he needs to let someone in or he could quite possibly kill himself.

These two have so much emotional baggage between the two of them, but even with Jace's animosity disguised as longing for Paige, they can't deny what has always been between them. Jace soon starts letting down his walls and let's himself love this incredible woman, but that doesn't mean everything in his life is suddenly ok. The struggle we see him go on is so authentic, that I felt like I was watching him to through all of his truama and withdrawals in real time. My heart just ached for him on every level, but I so loved seeing the strong man he came to be. His evolution was just pure genius.

Paige was equally magnificent as well, and I loved her quite strength. She wanted to be the one to heal Jace from all of his pain, but she also knew when to choose herself too. I loved watching them have such a beautiful and easy love underneath all the damaging complications. Kelsey pulled off every single contradiction off in their relationship so beautifully that I just didn't want this book to end!

I also really loved the mystery/suspense aspect of this book too! The ending made me long to have Carter's book right NOW because I just know that's going to be such a wild ride as well! Gosh, I'm so obsessed with this incredible woman's words!!

This is definitely a must read, and even though it is technically a standalone, you should all read tbe GHP series and the first book in this series as well to have the full picture of all the characters. I know you will become as obsessed as I am!

**I received an ARC of this book and these are my honest opinions!**

***4,5 "Playground to the grave!!!" stars***

OUT NOW!

"We are all meant to be afraid of the monsters.
To run from the demons that want to pull you underwater and drown you in misery.
But Jace embraced them."

I'm so happy that I decided almost a year ago to take a chance on Kelsey Clayton's "The Sinner" and from that moment, I was a goner... Kelsey is writting very beautiful stories and even though, they are in the same world, they are so different between them and they are always captivating you...
This story wasn't the exception. It was a story I was anticipated and in here, the author gave me so much more than I was expecting...

"One day at a time.
One minute at a time.
One breath at a time.
It's the only way to make it through."

This was a rough journey...
A journey of friendship and second chances...
A heartbreaking story of addiction and bad choices... Of forgiveness and self discovery...
I loved Jace so much and my heart was breaking for him... His darkness was suffocating, but he was a lucky guy cause he was surrounding by people that they truly loved him... People that were determined to fight for him!!
I also loved Paige.. The truth is that I wasn't remembering her from before, but she was a silent and patient force and you couldn't not get under her spell...
And I freakin' loved Carter. Everyone would wish to have a friend like him...

"You bleed, I bleed.
You die, I die.
That was the pact, remember?
From the playground to the grave."

Well... After a tragic night, Jace's life is changing drastically and he is spiralling down a dark path... He just wants to numb the pain... After all, he is dead inside and his willing to live is fainting away day after passing day...
His best friend is really worrying about him and he just wants to help him, but his efforts are getting wasted by Jace over and over again...
He might need something from the past to bring him back to the land of the living!!!

"It'd be better if everyone would just leave me the fuck alone. Leave to burn in the pits of hell I've ended up."

"They're afraid I'm going to kill myself, but what they don't realize is that taking away my ability to tame the demons inside me could cause exactly that."

Paige's life is taking a huge turn backward after the darn call that she received a few months ago.
Now, she is back on her hometown and she is enrolling in North Haven University, away from her best friend, Becca and the college life that she was starting to built.
Now, she is broken inside and she just have to be the rock for her family...
Unfortunately, old wounds are about to open when she is seeing again Jace, her ex best friend and ex boyfriend... and it doesn't help the fact that he wants her gone!!

"I am living my worst nightmare."

"I'm her rock, and rocks don't bend. They break. But when they break, there is no way to put them back together. They're forever damaged."

Jace and Paige used to be each other's world until they weren't...
At the present, both of them are on a dark place and they might need each other to survive... Or maybe not???
The only sure thing is that their reconnection weren't what everyone would expect.... They didn't get separated in good terms and even though Paige wants to be there for Jase, he can't trust her again!!
She just broke his heart and then his life was ruined...
Now, he just wants to numb the pain and no one can really help him... But maybe Paige can, after all???

"She fucked me over once. No way am I ever making the mistake of trusting that girl again. I'd rather be dead."
"You'd rather be dead instead of a lot lately, and that's exactly what I'm afraid of."

Well, I already told you that I loved both heroes very much...
Jace was stubborn as hell, but I can totally understand his strange reasoning... He was struggling to survive when he didn't want to keep living... And then Paige came back into his life like a rain of hope, but it was already too late...
As for Paige??? I was so sorry about her... She had her own issues and struggles to face and still she got into her shoulders Jace's load as well... It's so hard to love an addict!!! It's so hard to stay by his side and fight for both you and him!!! But she was a strong woman and she could do anything!!!

"There is no winning here. I can't have one without the other. She will leave me either way."

"Allowing myself to be close to someone I'm eventually going to lose is like gripping the thorns on a rose. It's beautiful, but it hurts. And even when it withers, the pain is still there."

And of course, I just adored Carter, even though I wasn't a fan of him on previous books...
In here, he showed us how great he was!!! He kept taking the blows that Jase was throwing him, even though he was hurting him!!! He showed us that true friendship exists and he had made so many sacrifices for his friend...
And of course, now I can not wait for his turn... I'm very intrigued and impatient!!! Bring it on, Kelsey!! I'm sooo ready!!!

"I'm going to make him pay."
...This girl is one of the toughest and most resilient women I've met.
The devil reincarnated in female form, with the power to destroy anyone she sets her sights on.
Poor Carter.

THE REVIEW FOR THE BOOK: CHANGE MY GAME.

GENRE:CONTEMPORARY HIGH SCHOOL ROMANCE.
AUTHOR:KELSEY CLAYTON.
TYPE: Book #2 OF NORTH HAVEN UNIVERSITY.
POV:FIRST PERSON: DUAL PROSPECTIVE.
MY RATING: 4 "LOVE WILL BIND US" STARS.

I am obsessed...I thought Zayn was the hottest hunk in the North Haven University...Well, he is. But Jace is something else. His story left me heart in broken ashes in its wake.
No character's story has ever made me brawl my eyes out. When reading about his past and the tragedy he endured.. It's not surprising that he turns out to be this way...drowning himself in drugs and alcohol to find peace.

There enters our heroine Paige...I am in love with her vulnerability and bravado...she was always been in love with the bad boy, Jace. But she left him...for which Jace has not forgiven her yet.
Now she is back...and Jace is going to make her life hell...but deep down he knows he loves her.
And this game of hate will change when their tragic past id avck to destroy them again...but this time he will be damn to let Paige go...they will fight together. ❤

Least favorite so far (spoiler-ish)

I love this series. And I understand its supposed to be dark and about trauma and all that. The fact that Jace was in love with someone else was difficult but not something that would completely ruin it for me. What did it was the fact that the entire book was about him loving this other chick and basically using Paige to make that hurt less. No. Just NO.

I really did not like this book. So much of it just did not make sense to me and was so toxic and unhealthy.

There was an overall storyline but it felt like every few chapters the author got bored and decided to throw something in that made no sense but to add **DRAMA*

Also to my knowledge the author is neither a therapist nor a lawyer so all of the scenes involving the therapist and in court really frustrated me because none of it sounded correct or professional to me.

Overall I have to say the MCs relationship was very toxic, I really disliked this book and I am shocked that I didn't dnf and actually made it through. Don't think I'll be reading more of the author.

Soooooo. I got this on a recommendation from a book blogger and I didn’t love it.
It seems I’m the only person according to all of these 5 star reviews. It had a lot of potential but just fell short.
I didn’t like Jace and I barely liked Paige. He annoyed me and I didn’t think anything about him was appealing.

If you know me enough to like what I like then this is for you. I didn’t like it.

Kelsey Clayton has done it yet again by taking my heart and ripping it from my chest with just her words in this new book! Omg what a rollercoaster of a ride this book was for me.

5 Stars for this emotionally charged romance!!! Jace and Paige completely and utterly stole my heart! They’re both lost, kindred soul mates! I am not going to reveal too much, but you MUST read this emotionally driven love story by Ms. Clayton. Fantastic overall.

I must say, a lot of her characters from other books make an appearance, even though it states it is a standalone, so I highly recommend you read her other books in the Haven Grace Prep series starting with The Sinner. This was another emotional and highly anticipated book for me. You will not be disappointed with any of her books to be quite honest. Kelsey writes with passion and she really loves these characters she has created.

description
Kelsey Clayton's words are breathtakingly intense, and her storytelling so brilliantly constructed that you will find yourself wholeheartedly consumed by every beautiful moment of the journey that she takes you on. Since discovering this extraordinary author last year, I have become OBSESSED with her characters and ADDICTED to the stories that she tells. Truth be told, I was absolutely heartbroken when her Haven Grace Prep series came to an end because I wasn’t ready to let these characters go since I felt like there were so many secondary characters that still had their own stories to be told and THANK GOODNESS Kelsey Clayton knew that too and decided to give us the North Haven University series. The guys of NHU are older, sexier and more scandalous than ever before!

Jace London and Paige McAllister were initially introduced to us in the Haven Grace Prep series and let me just say that I was intrigued by these characters from the first moment I met them. The author does an exceptional job making her characters relatable to her readers, allowing us to form deeper connections with them in the end. Both of these characters are dealing with their own set of struggles that will break your heart and leave you utterly speechless. Your heartstrings will be tugged beyond repair that you will ache all over while devouring the words of this epic love story.

Change My Game is an emotional and angsty second chance romance that will consume you deeply as you lose yourself completely in the words. This story deals with some complicated situations that will leave you an emotional mess as you endure the heartbreaking moments between Jace and Paige that will shatter your soul. These two lost souls will find their way back to each other and discover just how chaotic and traumatizing life can really be.

Get ready for a rollercoaster full of emotions when you dive into the second book in the NHU series! I am eagerly counting down the days until I can get my hands on the next book because I can already tell you that we are in for a shock of a lifetime when it comes to Carter Trayland...

It’s been mere hours since I read this book, and to be quite frank I have no clue what to say. I’ve been left speechless, my emotions have been rocked and I feel like I am at a stand still moment where everything is frozen and I don’t know where to go on to explain how much I loved this book.

This author in my opinion pulled all the punches with this one. This book had to be one of the realest books I’ve read that tackles real life struggles, grief, blame, pain of the realest kind, and heartbreak. This book definitely was more painful, darker and emotional. Change My Game is definitely one to talk about, a book that delivers a second chance romance done in its finest form.

It’s a book that even if you could, you couldn’t put it down. These characters grasped you by the heartstrings and demanded you listened to their story. At times their story was unbearable with everything that has happened or is to happen. It’s like their emotions were transferred over to me like a contagious disease that I couldn’t deny them even if I wanted to. I admit, I cried and I don’t usually cry with books but this one I did.

Move over Zayn, it’s now Jace’s turn to swoop in and take over. This is Jace and Paige story.

Jace and Paige were two people I didn’t really expect but as soon as I met Paige I knew that she was something special , a ray of sunshine on a dark and gloomy day. She’s the definition of strong, flawless and confident but every girl has their weaknesses and Jace is hers.

Jace is you’re ordinary arrogant, entitled and gorgeous guy who you can’t help but fall in love with. He has a lot of anger that he has harboured deep inside from Paige when she left but also due to a really huge secret he has kept locked like a vault. This secret has been eating him alive and is pulling him way into his mind and it won’t be long before he loses himself into the darkness that is calling his name.

But the thing about Jace is that the darkness has already gotten a hold of him. He is a shell of the person that he used to be. That is until Paige returns.

Things between these two when they reunite are so rocky and painful. They both harbour a lot of pain, hurt but deep down their love is undeniable. These two needed to learn how they could overcome their past and learn to forgive and forget. If these two just communicated what was happening at the time, they could have saved themselves a lot of heartbreak.

Baggage upon baggage.
Secrets upon secrets had the ability to break these two apart before they even got back to each other. Sometimes you gotta lose somebody, just to find that you really love someone. You don’t know what you got, until it’s gone and Jace had to learn that the hard way.

So much happened in this book that to be honest, I can’t even go on to speak about it. These two individually and together have a lot of obstacles to overcome and how they get through it is painfully heartbreaking but it’s the way that it has to be.

Together these two were magically perfect together. They suited each other to the T. They way they stuck by each other when they needed one another was tear jerking. You could definitely see each time they were in the same room as each other, the love that they shared with the looks, the touches and the way they communicated. Paige gave Jace the reason to live and breathe again whereas Jace gave Paige someone to love, rely on and be her person when she needed someone the most.

This book was full of twist and turns but towards the end the twists were out of this world amazing with suspense, angst and wonder of what’s going to happen next. I am so excited for the next instalment in this series, that I desperation need to know how their story is going to play out. This is a definite must read for all you readers who love second chance romances.

Change My Game is the second installment in the North Haven University series, featuring the interconnected emotional second chance romance of Jace London and Paige McAllister. She’s the girl that got away, the one who moved across country for college without answering his calls or texts. But now she’s back, attending North Haven University and the only guy she ever loved needs her help. He’s back in town after a tragedy forced him home, finding his comfort in the very thing that could kill him instead. He doesn’t want her help, it’s the only thing that gets him through the day. Yet the thought of losing her for a second time might be the very thing that makes him willing to try....if only his past didn’t come back to haunt him and knock his entire world even further off its axis.

"I can't be the one to save you, Jace," I say with a shake of my head. He looks at me with nothing but sincerity. "I don't want you to. I just want you to stand beside me while I save myself."

I knew once I finished Corrupt My Mind I wanted to know Jace’s story. He didn’t play a huge part in that book, but there was enough of a backstory on him to know that his journey would be hard and emotional.....and boy was it ever! This is one of very few books I’ve read where addiction is very accurately depicted, not used as a plot piece for drama but instead for what it is. Seeing the ups and downs, the beauty and the pain, the denial and forgiveness....
description
.....it was all intricately & organically woven into something that had me fighting a war of emotions, wanting to scream at and comfort these characters at the same time. It didn’t quite get 5 stars from me (due to one very specific issue), but it was dang close to perfect and one I’m not quite sure how she can beat!

“Don’t say it," I snap, feeling as everything in me crumbles away. "Not like this. Because if you say it, I’ll stay. I will stay with you, and I can’t stay with someone who is bound to kill himself eventually. It’ll break me. So I’m begging you. Please. Don't say it."

The Good:
❤️Accurate Depiction of Addiction: As I said above, what I appreciated the most about this book is her accuracy when representing an addict & their addiction. She never made it easy, she never made it a second thought type thing.....it is such a central point of their journey together and it was treated as if it was a character within itself. I have read so many books that get this wrong, it was incredible to see one get it so very right.

❤️Their Connection: I never questioned their connection, even in times where it seemed he might see her as more of a physical comfort than someone he truly cared about. They both show you what the other means to them, it’s not simply told to you and you are expected to just believe it. Even in what could be considered their weakest moments, it’s their love for one another that drives them to that cliff (so to speak). I believed in them together, and that makes all the difference. Especially when you see a journey that shows them fighting their way back to each other more than once.

❤️The Emotional Element: When a book is dealing with a topic such as addiction, I know it’s going to be emotional for me (if it’s done right). This one was one mega-fest of emotions and it isn’t just the addiction element that brings that out. It’s the heartbreaking situation that brought Paige back home.....
The pain that fills my chest is unlike anything I've ever felt before. It's raw, and aching, and if it was possible, I'd rip my own heart out just to feel the slightest bit of relief.
.....something that everyone can identify with in one way or another, making it that much more painful. To the gut-wrenching affect Jace’s addiction (and choices) have on the one great thing in his life....
"Why are you doing this? You said you wouldn't do this!" "Because I can't help you." "You have been helping me! Don't you get that?" He throws his head back. "You can't do this! Please! You can't!"
.....they aren’t just words, you can FEEL the desperation and heartbreak in those scenes. I value that emotional part of reading, this one ticked all the boxes.

❤️Carter & his dedication: Some will recognize Carter from Corrupt My Mind and even if you are brand new to this series, I’m telling you he is going to earn your heart. EVERYONE needs someone like Carter in their corner.....
“You need to feel it, Jace." "I can't." "You have to." "No," I try to resist. "I won't make it through that. I'll never recover." He reaches over and grabs my hand, not caring for a second that we're both bleeding. "Then I'll be here to pull you back. I will always be here to remind you of who you are."
description
.....the way he is so committed, loyal, and supportive of his best friend is something you see through his actions and not just something you are told. With his book up next, I’m seriously rooting for him.

The Bad:
***this will get a tad spoil-ey ahead.....
🖤The Past: And here is the reason I couldn’t give it 5 stars. I will not go into his past because it’s a major plot point/driver and affects the overall book. All I will say is it involves a girl.....a girl that came after Paige (their original “relationship”) but is out the picture by the time Paige and Jace both return home. I get it, characters are allowed to have past relationships. But it’s the way it is presented (more than once), as in he was in love with and could still be.....
"She was everything. The kind of girl who didn't just want your attention, she demanded it. The kind that could make an entire room revolve around her simply by being there. The kind who could make you feel special just by being around her but tear you down as soon as you turned your back. A jaw-dropping, show-stopping liar.”
description
.....it tainted what he shared with Paige because I just couldn’t trust that he didn’t still harbor some of those feelings for this one girl. I can’t get into it any more than that without really ruining stuff, but I promise those who pick up on it while reading will understand exactly what I’m trying to (and trying not to) say.

The Verdict:
description
Change My Game was a journey of second chances, haunted pasts, current tragic situations, and the heartbreaking effects of addiction.....but most importantly the journey a couple takes to overcome all the bad because their love for one another trumps anything standing in their way. It’s one that will make you feel, how that is is entirely up to your individual reading experience....but you will come out the other side hopefully having a better understanding of addiction while being able to root for a couple’s love story to have the HEA they both deserve. So yeah, I absolutely recommend it.....it’s one that will be hard for Kelsey to top but I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us with Carter’s story up next!

"And part of loving someone means being there for them when they need you," I tell him. "And I love you. I always have."

Paige gets one phone call from Carter and she knows, though kind of unwillingly, that she has to be the one to try to reach Jace. Her one time something, definitely friend, and more without a precise label. It's been months since Paige left, and being back around Jace (and Carter) is unsettling, but once she sees the state Jace is in, she knows Carter was right to call her. Will Jace let her in? Allow her past his walls?

Since the night of the accident, when he lost a dear friend, Jace has turned to anything he can to quiet the nightmares that keep showing up in his mind. But now Paige is back, quietly persistent in helping him. Carter's been insistent on helping him too, and it's now on Jace to let them help him. He knows he needs help, even if he's not willing to admit it to them, and if he lets himself be helped, perhaps a second chance is in the making for him and Paige. Perhaps he can heal.

Jace and Paige's journey was an emotional roller coaster, full of pain and heightened feelings. Through it all Paige was Jace's rock, and I loved that about her, loved her. To me she was the big standout of this gritty love story - strong, compassionate and sassy without being overbearing about it. The ending was more than a little abrupt, but I do believe it's leading to Carter's story, so I can't complain much, I just know his story is going to be a doozy!

Change My Game is the second book of the North Haven University series and it was full of surprises. Kelsey Clayton really captured every important moment between these two characters and made their story so enjoyable to read.

The two main characters both have flaws that made them strong. I really enjoyed reading their character development throughout the book. Every moment they had together had me on the edge of my seat and I was left wanting to finally piece all the pieces together. The shattered moments of the past that affect them in the present.

Their story has left me emotionally drained. To have these two characters experience the weakest moments and yet feel so strong through it all. I learned so much from them and just simply the way they went about certain actions was interesting to me. I do think they both got the story they deserved. Through the pain and the heartache. The past and the present. The weight of the future. It was always going to be just them. The friendships in these books are absolutely everything and the author did such a good job in writing them and incorporating them into the storyline.

All in all, Kelsey Clayton sure knows how to write those twists!! This book was so well-written and the characters, beyond everything, were made to be flawed yet capable of any challenge that’s ahead of them. I truly can't wait for what's to come in the upcoming books!

Our fate was written in the stars.

My favourite book of Kelsey’s to date!

The thing I love about reading is it makes you feel so many different emotions in such a short span of time and let me tell you Kelsey Clayton made me question myself throughout this whole damn book. I was laughing, I was swooning, I was horny, I was sad, then I was raging and repeat!

Jace London, messed with my emotions. He tugged on my heart strings and made me want to help. He made me cry with him and then he made me want to punch him. As the book goes on and we start to get answers you then understand why Jace is the way he is. I just wanted to hug him so badly!

Traumatic events make you spiral and boy is Jace spiralling. The only thing that can calm his raging storm is Paige. This girl was so damn strong. When every thing was going wrong, she continued to put everyone else first because that’s just the type of person she was. I will also never forgive Kelsey for a certain scene where I was crying so hard I couldn’t see!

I’m not going to spoil the book which is why my review is so vague but I will tell you this. Read this book. These characters and beautifully broken and will touch you in ways you never thought they would.

An emotional rollercoaster from start to finish and a must read!

Ahhh what a way to start 2021!

Can these characters imbed themselves into my soul even further than they already have? Apparently, the answer is yes. The more I read from this universe, the more I fall in love with these characters.

But Jace and Paige? These two had me in knots.

Second chances.

The angst.

The emotions.

I was in new adult heaven, and I never wanted to leave!

After not liking that much the first book in this series I was a little skeptical about this one. I absolutely adored Paige (h), she was brave, confident, strong and caring, she didn't deserve what was going on with her. But I hated Jace (H), he's immature and just thinks about himself. He doesn't deserve her, he wasn't a good friend or boyfriend.

This book was an emotional rollercoaster in the best way. Jace London is back in his hometown after a traumatic incident at college. His best friend knows he’s not coping well and is using drugs. He decides that the only person who can get through to him is his ex bff Paige. In highschool Paige and Jace were bffs then eventually turned into friends with benefits that was really more. They refused label it and Paige cut jace off when she went away to college. Now also back in her hometown due to some family stuff Paige and Jace keep running into each other. They’re both coping with some really heavy stuff and they both need each other more than they knew. Kelsey Clayton’s books are laced with something I swear and when they’re good they’re so good. Pls check TW’s

3.5!

Although, I think the addiction and treatment was really good representation. Some of it just felt off to me.

It wasn’t until the end of the story that I realize that their relationship didn’t seem stable. And a lot of be cliffhanger chapters felt unrealistic to the real world.

Other than that the pot was really good, especially since we didn’t really know if he did or not the thing about it is I really want to know what they saw in her face during the video? If you know what I mean, do you know what I mean.

I’m pretty sure will see it in the second book but I don’t know if when I read second book because I don’t really like Tye as a significant other to Carter.

But who knows I might read it later on.

Jace London had an entitled life, never wanted for nothing but one night has changed him into something and someone he doesn’t recognize until Paige McAllister comes back into his life because her life also has been upended in a life changing way.
Jace can’t seem to get out of his own way but with the help of his friends and Paige he will fight to be better for everyone.
Jace & Paige will have to endure a lot of ups and downs, heartbreaking moments but also some heartwarming moments but doing it together they just might be able to get to the place where they can say they came out the other side and hopefully find. HEA they both deserve after it all.

Another fantastic book by a talented author I love reading. Although The Rebel is still my favourite, this read will have you gripping your kindle from cover to cover.
The characters and plot will run you through a gamut of emotions, refusing to let you look away.
Definitely a must click that will make you evaluate everything.

Well written and entertaining but hated the fact that all of his issues and the conflicts stemmed from the fact that he was in love with another girl

For a long time I did not read a book that actually talks about trauma. I do not remember even when I read a book that talks about such a contest.  🤷🏽‍♂️
I think it is the first time.
The story here conveys a different message from all the books.
Mental coping. Drugs, alcohol, to run away from the 'bad' reality of through bad things.  💔
The story is about second chance romance.
I only realized that at the end of the book.  😅 This is also the first book I read at  2021 with and I am very happy that I finished this book with a calm heart. There were things that did work out for me in the story. And there were also things that I tried to understand, but did not. Because, I had not ever met character who has had a traumatic experience and throughout the story he does not really tell the reason. But more, indirectly. 😱 Until I got to the section in the book. And I understood.

💔 "Aʟʟ I ᴋɴᴏᴡ ɪs ʜᴏᴡ ᴛʜᴇʏ ᴍᴀᴋᴇ ᴍᴇ ғᴇᴇʟ. Hᴏᴡ ᴛʜᴇʏ ᴛᴀᴋᴇ ᴀᴡᴀʏ ᴛʜᴇ ᴘᴀɪɴ. Hᴏᴡ ᴛʜᴇʏ ᴍᴀᴋᴇ ɪᴛ ᴀ ʟɪᴛᴛʟᴇ ᴇᴀsɪᴇʀ ᴛᴏ ʙʀᴇᴀᴛʜᴇ, ᴀɴᴅ sᴏᴍᴇᴛɪᴍᴇs, ᴇᴠᴇɴ ᴛᴀᴋᴇ ᴀᴡᴀʏ ᴛʜᴇ ɴɪɢʜᴛᴍᴀʀᴇs." 💔

Paige, the female character of the story (I guessed from the beginning that this would be Jace's character) returns to the town where she grew up, due to a upheaval going on in her family. And she gave up her best friend, and her life and studies to support her mother.

In contrast, Jace suffers from harsh trauma.
He was exposed in case he did not get out of his head. Thus, it degenerates into dark and not good places. Admittedly, his bachelor life is pretty shiny. But, it's not him.

💙 "Tʀᴜsᴛ ᴍᴇ, ʙᴀʙʏ. I ᴅᴏɴ'ᴛ ᴡᴀɴᴛ ᴀɴʏᴛʜɪɴɢ ᴛᴏ ᴅᴏ ᴡɪᴛʜ ᴍᴇ ᴇɪᴛʜᴇʀ." 💙

Their group in their youth include: Carter, Page and Jace. And I have to stop for now. The stage here comes to Carter, Jace's best friend. Read this book, understand and appreciate these people. And I must point out that I did not like it in the main series.  But, now I'm really curious about his character (the next book in the series).

Carter talked to Paige and tells her she must help Jace despite what was between them.  Because he believes and knows that only she will be able to get him out of the place that he's into.

I do not remember reading for a long time about a female character who does not give up on herself. Just like that. She was purposeful all the way and was with him in really unpleasant situations. I felt her daring. And her courage. Despite what people said she did not leave. And that's heroism.

💥 "I’ᴍ ɴᴏᴛ sᴜʀᴇ ᴡʜᴀᴛ ɪᴛ ɪs, ʙᴜᴛ sᴏᴍᴇᴛʜɪɴɢ ᴛʀᴀᴜᴍᴀᴛɪᴄ ʜᴀs ʜᴀᴘᴘᴇɴᴇᴅ ᴛᴏ ʏᴏᴜ, ᴀɴᴅ ɪᴛ’s ᴇᴀᴛɪɴɢ ʏᴏᴜ ғʀᴏᴍ ᴛʜᴇ ɪɴsɪᴅᴇ ᴏᴜᴛ. I’ᴅ ʟɪᴋᴇ ᴛᴏ sᴛᴏᴘ ɪᴛ ʙᴇғᴏʀᴇ ɪᴛ ᴋɪʟʟs ʏᴏᴜ, ʙᴜᴛ I ᴄᴀɴ’ᴛ ᴅᴏ ᴛʜᴀᴛ ᴀʟᴏɴᴇ." 💥

In conclusion, I really liked this book this time.
But, he will only get 4 stars from me.  Because I did connect to this book. And that happened to me only towards the end of the book in the 60%. And I tell you why. Because it takes me so much to understand his story. And it made to less enjoy from reading experience. This book, is not difficult to read. But, there are passages I had to stop. And understand. True, I may have lived in a bubble to this day. But I was exposed to this issue more. Kelsey, rejected the book for reasons that the ending is not the most perfect. But, in the end she brought the best result that could be.  💙💪🏽

This book ends on a cliffhanger!

Trigger Warnings include:
drug use, cancer, death, grief

I just want you to stand beside me while I save myself.

I read this in one sitting. I shouldn’t have. I should have eaten dinner at a decent time. Or folded the laundry I did when I needed to take a 5 minute breather from the book. But I could NOT stop reading! Going through the notes I made and quotes I highlighted…it’s like reading it all over again. The pain, the anguish, the struggle. It’s all still so raw (I’m also writing this within 12 hours of finishing it). But I know this is going to sit with me for a long time. Jace and Carter have been best friends and inseparable since they were little. And Jace and Paige…well, their past has more baggage. But when Carter needs Paige’s help with helping Jace, she can’t say no. There is SO much going on with these characters. It’s struggle after struggle. There are no butterflies and rainbows. So if you’re looking for an adorable college romance, this is NOT it! I got a little wispy eyed and my heart beat faster during the first 60% of the book. But I cried for the majority of the last 40%! My chills were so strong, my goosebumps hurt. My chest hurt from how hard my heart was beating. I was sick to my stomach, like I was riding a roller coaster. I won’t give any more details about the story. I went in after only reading the blurb, and I think that’s how everyone should go in. Not knowing that ONE thing at the end is driving me nuts! I wasn’t planning on reading the next book, but without knowing that PLUS I’m not ready to walk away from Carter, Jace, and Paige, I’m left with no choice!

My Favorite Quotes:
• “You’re just going to walk away?” “You taught me how.”
• “I didn’t leave you. I set you free.”
• “Trust me, I find nothing funny about this.”
• “Tonight wasn’t about me.”
• “You’re not in charge here, baby.”
• “It’s mine, every last ounce of your pleasure belongs to me. Do you understand?”
• “Give it to me, babe. Give me what’s mine.”
• “I just want you to stand beside me while I save myself.”
• “You could never be just a number on a list. You’re too perfect for that.”
• “I’m yours. Today, tomorrow, and always.”
• “I want another.”
• “You are so much more than I deserve.”

My heart was in my stomach from the very first page. Change My Game is a gut wrenching emotional story about redemption, addiction, loss, second chances, and finding yourself at the end of it all.

Kelsey really dove into the underbelly of Jace and Paige and plucked out all of their emotions, bringing forth their depth and letting it drip off the pages so it would sink into your soul.

Change My Game is a heavy hitter romance with two characters that carry a lot of emotional baggage into their second chance meeting. Jace is set out to self destruct and destroy not only himself mentally, physically, emotionally, but pretty much anyone who gets in his path. The only person who seems to care is his best friend, Carter, and Jace works pretty hard at abusing that friendship at every turn. Carter reaches out to the one person in their past who might help, but it's a long shot given how she ghosted from their lives. The one person who was a constant friend growing up and eventually became more, Paige.

Paige is back in North Haven, but she is barely able to keep her own emotional baggage in check. Her father is sick and she's back helping her mother keep him comfortable in his final days. Paige doesn't have time to take on Jace's baggage, but at Carter's insistence she also can't seem to walk away. At one point in time Jace was important in her life and then suddenly he wasn't. She may have been the one to cut ties almost two years ago, but would she be okay knowing he was really hurt now when she could be the one help. Stepping in to his world again is one of the easiest and hardest things to do, but who ever said matters of the heart are easy.

The agony of both Jace and Paige and what they are going through bled off the pages and tore through my heart. Kelsey filled the story not only with love and friendship, but twists and turns that had my gripping my kindle and needing moments to pause, stop and mentally scream. To say Kelsey changed the game with this book seems punny, but instead what she really did was upped her game for the entire series.

Change My Game is a non-stop read through once you begin, but prepare for this game changer.

5 Hearbreaking Stars

Kelsey has done it yet again, taking my still beating heart and ripping it from my chest with just her words. This book shattered my mind and soul bringing tears to my eyes from the beginning and then continuing to ruin me until the very end. This book brought out so many emotions that I was not prepared for the onslaught or the way my heart would ache for these characters. Jace and Paige are on a level all their own, their relationship is deep and searing, their love is imperfect but real, and the strength with which they fight for their happy ending is undeniable.

This isn’t just a romance, Kelsey takes you on an unexpected journey of forgiveness not just of oneself but of those around you. It’s a story that was layered with emotion after emotion pulling you and weighing you with the intensity of it. There were times throughout where I didn’t think my heart could take anymore. But I trusted Kelsey to bring me through to the other side and I was not disappointed.

Jace and Paige have this bond that goes beyond mere infatuation or childhood romances. They are soul mates, they are genuine and raw, and they are flawed and damaged. But they show you that you can survive even the darkest of times, even the scariest of moment. These two show you how two imperfect people can love perfectly and they leave you with a sense of rightness and light.

I’ve only just found Kelsey but I already know that she will continue to be a One-Click author for me. Her stories pull you into the worlds that she’s created and keep you transfixed until the very last page. Her characters are broken and damaged, which makes them feel more real and tangible. The men are Alpha and the woman are strong and the stories will leave you breathless and aching for more. Bravo Kelsey for another addictive read that I couldn’t put down and was saddened when it was ultimately over, I can’t wait to see where you take us next.
