Tempest Phan loves ink, words, leather pants, K-pop, and emo (#SorryNotSorry). She's married to her own tattooed lawyer, and when she's not running after their littles and pups, she spends her time snuggling with book boyfriends and writing about broken heroes and indomitable heroines. (By the way, she's never met a bar of dark chocolate that she hasn't fallen head-over-Loubs for).

What's her brand? Angsty, slow burn stories that catch major fire and usually feature a heroine of Asian descent.

I got this early copy thanks to Tempest on IG and from the blurb I knew I was going to enjoy it and damn, all the angst and the drama kept me going and I couldn’t put it down, it’s a long book but I devoured it in less than 24 hours because the story was really addictive as well as the characters.

Damien was the broken boy who fell in love with the good girl and despite everything, their relationship kept growing until the end. I loved how sweet he was with her at first and how he didn’t allow his demons to the surface when he was with Bella. He always protected her and was there for her, even though he felt he wasn’t good enough.

Bella always loved Damien and it was amazing seeing them together, despite having it all, she didn’t care about his wealth or problems, she only wanted to be with him and help him face his demons. Besides their steamy scenes were the best, especially when he treated her like a princess.

The book is really angsty but it was one of the things I really enjoyed, I love drama in books so it was perfect like that. Damien and Bella had to go through a lot of things but I loved how it ended and I’m really glad I got the chance to help the author promote this amazing story.

Ready to devour this story? Damien and Bella are best friends, destined for more, but have difficult, winding paths, both to and from each other. Damien is a tortured soul from the wrong side of the tracks, but underneath his tattooed skin is a heart of gold, devoted to his Bella. She was born into a life of privilege, but sees past the superficial and knows loss. Gorgeous, she drops jaws, but would kick your ass if needed, for her Dame. Each is a thread running through the other’s life, which makes one of them apprehensive about taking things to the next level, as there is so much at stake. One must battle their demons, knowing that failure would mean joining them. The other faces different obstacles, that may also provoke lasting consequences. In their heart of hearts, they can’t deny that they belong to each other and fit too well (in more ways than one...), but they face significant challenges that threaten to take them in different directions forever. Can they both navigate their trajectories in ways that let them truly make it to each other?

Immediate favorite; I didn’t want to put this down and was sneaking in readings while I was at work! Bella and Dame’s story will seduce you, not just for its sensuous scenes. We get both of their points of view, developed with distinct voices, mood, and growth. The descriptions throughout the book are evocative, poetic, dreamy, and visceral. There are so many good lines, and passages that stir loss, love and lust. Themes of pleasure and pain and light and dark are well established and carried throughout the story, which is also laced with clever motifs. This is a well-crafted story that delivers, building a pleasing tension along the way. Sultry, with substance.

Damien, Forever by Tempest Phan

OMG!!! This book has so many feels that at one point it became to much for me to bear......my heart and poor puffy eyes showed it the next morning. I can't do this book justice with my review, but I will try to express how grateful I am that I had the chance to beta read this EPIC romance novel ❤️🖤.

" SPOILERS " ahead
Tempest Phan is a debut Indie author, this is her first book, but the way she wrote it you would never guess that it is. Temp you hit it out of the park with this book babe, kudos girl, I am insanely proud of you 😘🤗

Damien is the kindest, and smartest boy you'll ever meet, but he is also a broken hero that will make his way deep into your heart...gahhh I just wanted to reach in and hug him so hard. He carries all this burden, guilt and darkness all alone he hides it under the eyeliner, black polish, piercing and tattoos, his music...he won't let anyone help him with his pain not even his Bella no matter how hard she tries to get him to open up.
He will grow up broken inside, the pain really never leaving him. He becomes this gorgeous HOT guy, playing in an emo band with 4 other hot dudes called " My Tell-Tale Heart " that after a lot of hard work and struggle they become famous!!!

The darkness, and the feeling of never being good enough for his Bella remains within himself. The years go by, even though he has always loved her so much (she will alway be the only one for him)he wants to protected her from the world around her; and his dark world too. In his mind they can never be together as a couple.

Mirabella is the sweetest of girls that lost her mom at a young age, she's smart, beautiful, and she has been trying to make her father love and appreciate her for years. He isn't the easiest of fathers.
She meets Damien when they were 7 years old, and she gave her heart to him then and he never gave it back to her. She loves him with everything she has, and would do anything for him. He will be the only one she will ever truly love.
Their romance is a tycoon rollercoaster ride that will "spin you around, spit you out, leave you gutted, heartbroken"
My heart was left shattered, OMG 😭😭 the emotional turmoil angst this book produces in you- is real, be prepared!

It's an amazing angsty, intense, sometimes dark romance about love, guilt, forgiveness, understanding, mental health which is such an important topic that is not mentioned enough, PTSD, determination, verbal abuse.
Her writing is like poetry, the music, those lyrics she created goes straight to the heart, the sex is steamy HOT and I loved everything second of it!

The honesty of this author was palpable in her words coming out of the pages, everything felt real! I hooked already....I will read anything she writes.

I absolutely loved the secondary characters the band buddies and Lukas OMG!!! he also has my heart I can't wait for his story!

This does have a HEA, no cliffhanger and I'm happy to say it's part of a series 😍🤟 Rock on baby girl!

ARC was given to me by author. I Beta read and loved this book so much; thank you for giving me the honor of being one of the firsts to read it. My review is given voluntarily ❤️

A deeply moving poetic love song full of heartbreaking beauty. You won't just read this story, you'll feel this story....

It's a slow and torturous burn of angst, longing, devistation and beautifully imperfect love.

Tempest Phan literally transports you into this story's heart and soul. While reading, I was so utterly capitaved by the vivid picture she painted with her words. I felt as though I was watching a black and white movie coming to life.

My Damien James...the beautifully broken, flawed hero who longs for the girl he cannot dare to love. His beautiful baby girl who's the lifeline from the storm that surges around him. His anguish and pain practically bled onto each and every page.

Mirabella Grace Davenport...the princess who adores her troubled boy from the wrong side of the tracks. She'll always brave his storm because he'll always have her heart. She promised to never let him go, and she never will.

Lukas Stone...Handsome, charming, and charismatic. He's more than willing to be the white knight and pick up the pieces of Belle's broken heart. A perfect prince from her world but, will his love be enough for the both of them.

This story is EPIC on multiple levels. It's a journey unlike anything I've ever read. It will touch you, devastatingly break you, and ultimately heal you. I found so much beauty in this story. Despite the dark themes and situations, this story was beautifully worded and powerfully delivered. I'm happy to say there is an HEA and this story does not end with a cliffhanger. This is the first installment in the Art of Sinners series and I will be eagerly awaiting the rest of Lukas's story...

Tempest GIRL...you have completely blown me away and left me a sobbing, blubbering mess!!
(Fair warning to readers to have tissues nearby because your gonna need them! 😭😭) This book was completely AMAZING and I loved every single moment of it! This story truly touched me and I am so grateful to have experienced it!
This is a MUST READ that I HIGHLY RECOMMEND putting on your TBR NOW!!

Tempest Phan broke me with ‘Damien, Forever’...this is unlike any other debut novel I've ever read because she had me lost between those pages.
A flawless journey with real, flawed and broken characters.
I could tell you a million things about this heartbreakingly beautiful story of Bella and Damien... and that bittersweet end.
They slowly take up all the space in your soul with their hot, angsty and inevitable romance.
It could be felt with every pulse.
You will lose every bit of sanity you managed to cling onto by the end, where you're left a mess of emotions.
It's painful and full of heartbreak and struggle.
You'll be taken on an intense ride with a billion feelings you can't control.
But, I promise, Tempest makes it so worth it.
These characters would have etched their names on your heart forever.
Damien, Forever is full of heat, angst, pain and love.
It's not just any rockstar romance, I swear.
You will fall for Damien and never want to come back.

Here I go... I wanted to really think about the right words on how to write this review...
💜 I believe there are only a hand full of books that you will read that can actually touch your soul and this is one of them for me.... for a writer/author to be able to let your reader FEEL every damn emotion is brilliance. It takes talent and art....

🌸 Bella: Spunky, Sweet, in love with her best friend.

🖤 Damien: broken and wounded, in love with the girl next door.

Damien was unlike any character I have ever read in a book. It’s not a lot of times you read about the Hero who is kind, emo, fucked up in his own way. I cried. Laughed. Had myself some “awe” moments through the whole thing.

...as far as the one scene (y’all know which one 😉) hot damn 🥵 YAS. Anyone woman who says that’s not their fantasy is probably lying 😆 😋

Anyway. There’s probably more that I can say but I want everyone to experience it for themselves.
This is the first one of the series and the next book... oh boy. I am READY! 🔥

What an amazing book to announce your arrival on the indie book scene. I wasn't really sure what to expect from this book but the synopsis intrigued me and that cover is just beautiful.

Bella and Damien are the very definition of soul mates. The story follows them through all the heartaches and pain of friendship then love. Damien is not the usual hero and I loved that he wasn't given the typical rockstar treatment. He was the kind thoughtful emo rocker who has his demons which make him think he's not good enough for Bella. Then there is sweet Bella who see's the good in him, I love how determined she was to win him over. This is a slow burn romance that follows them for years it is an angsty heartbreakingly beautiful story.

New indie author or a freaking mastermind? Bella and Damien are perfection personified! The angst, the steam, the FREAKING steam! I always get super nervous reading an author I’ve never read before because I don’t wanna be disappointed. Oh man, I definitely was not disappointed with this one! Absolutely freaking brilliant! I laughed, I cried, I cursed, I sighed. A lot of sighing! Took me one night to finish. I couldn’t put it down, hooked from page one. Bella is strong and fierce and beautiful! Damien is drool worthy and sinful! Gah! I see a reread very soon!

Bella and Dame are simply wow! Since page 1 I was enthralled with their love story. Angsty, emotional and heartfelt book written by an amazing indie author.

I can’t believe this is Tempest’s debut novel, her writing is precise and emotional, this book feels like she’s been writing for several years. This book is phenomenal and emotional!!

Thank you, Tempest, for giving me the opportunity to read and review your debut novel. 5 out of 5 ⭐️ !!

“For someone who’d spent a whole lifetime repressing his every emotion for fear of breaking; for someone who’d buried each and every one of them so deep until they clawed their way out during the dark cover of night like demons ready to devastate, her open heart was like the dawn after a terrifying nightmare. Beautiful and perhaps inevitable, and so very cherished. How could my broken soul not respond to her? I knew I would give my life to protect her and how she saw the world.” - Damien

Author Tempest Phan rolls out her debut romance book with an epic gut wrenching heartbreaking beautiful friends to lovers, second chance romance.

It’s a struggle to rise to rockstar and the toll it takes on someone. Having someone be your world to only erect walls around their heart.
Its being there for someone who is broken. For Bella and Damien I wasn’t so sure they would or could get it together .. loving someone you consider too good for you but the pain and longing drive you crazy.. I love Bella’s determination though.. this book is a slow burn .. and it’s incredible. I am excited to read the next one in this series. There is so much I want to say but I think you need to read it and see the epicness for yourself. I loved it!

I am blown away by this author. Damien, Forever is dripping in pain, love, friendship, and sex. It felt personal, brilliant, and I could sense how the author loves poetry and music. It truly spoke to my emo loving soul. It’s an incredible nod to mental health issues.

You ever finish a book and just think “damn” just damn. If I could get away with just writing that one word for a review I would leave it at that, but it deserves so much more.

Damien, you beautiful broken boy so worthy of so much. Worthy of your dreams worthy of love, and yet always put Bella’s well being first. No matter how it tore me apart. How could someone be so giving and break my heart all at the same time? His words and music are touching and I liked when he had his moments where his spirit shined.

Bella, strong, brave, you owned yourself, and were a much needed friend to Damien. I loved your beauty and how happy you were to listen to Damien’s songs. With no choice you had to keep moving on.

We are on this journey of the most loyal friendship from high school and beyond I have ever read, and at the same time tortured by it.

It’s a whirlwind of choices, letting go, moving on, and getting your act together. There is another character in this book and it’s name is pain. Ahah yep metaphorically, but so tangible. It felt like a ghost was in the room. It’s whispers were all over the pages. It was tension, heart break, and passion. Pain was so real in their scenes that it made their sex better, their kisses better, their bites better.

I don’t want to say too much and I want to say everything! So you have to read it! Hearts will break, mend, and one will be left behind.

How far will a damaged boy go to seeing the man he has become? The man that Bella always saw. Can they hold one another in darkness, or does sometimes letting go of someone the ultimate gift of love?

Okay, so I’m not going to crap all over this book cause some parts were good.
Butttt.....

For me it was just lacking something. Something meaty.
I get the story. It had all the right feels but the push and pull was just muhh.
Don’t get me wrong I love a good romance but I got fed up of them after a while 🤷🏻‍♀️ I needed more.

If I’m being super honest I kinda felt like they were being wet flannels & you wanted to just knock their heads together. Like being stuck on a slightly disappointing merry go round. When they finally got to the good stuff it lacked all the heat I desperate wanted from them. Add a few more adjectives, throw in some dirty talk and it would have been a winner.

The plot was good and I got where the author wanted it to go but just missed the mark for me.

I fell head first into this & connected with the characters on a completely different level. Damien and Bella's relationship had me captivated, i loved, laughed and silently cried reading this breathtaking book. PLUS there are some seriously jaw dropping scenes!! (Did it just get hot in here)🥵😉

"𝓘’𝓵𝓵 𝓼𝓪𝔂 𝓽𝓱𝓪𝓽 𝓘 𝓱𝓪𝓿𝓮 𝓪𝓵𝔀𝓪𝔂𝓼 𝔀𝓪𝓷𝓽𝓮𝓭 𝔂𝓸𝓾, 𝓽𝓱𝓪𝓽 𝓘 𝓱𝓪𝓿𝓮 𝓪𝓵𝔀𝓪𝔂𝓼 𝓬𝓻𝓪𝓿𝓮𝓭 𝔂𝓸𝓾. 𝓘 𝓯𝓮𝓮𝓵 𝓼𝓲𝓬𝓴 𝔀𝓲𝓽𝓱 𝓱𝓸𝔀 𝓶𝓾𝓬𝓱 𝓘’𝓿𝓮 𝓪𝓵𝔀𝓪𝔂𝓼 𝓬𝓻𝓪𝓿𝓮𝓭 𝔂𝓸𝓾. 𝓨𝓸𝓾’𝓻𝓮 𝓮𝓿𝓮𝓻𝔂𝓽𝓱𝓲𝓷𝓰 𝓽𝓱𝓪𝓽’𝓼 𝓰𝓸𝓸𝓭 𝓲𝓷 𝓽𝓱𝓲𝓼 𝔀𝓸𝓻𝓵𝓭, 𝓫𝓪𝓫𝔂 𝓰𝓲𝓻𝓵.”

Damien & Bella are life long friends but Dame is a tortured being from the wrong side of the tracks. But Bella's fierceness and loyality to him is pure fire and she would jump through pain & fire to protect him and vice versa.

My heart broke several times throughout but when Bella was powerful to express her emotions and feelings for her best friend. Their passion and love is raw and real and i see Damien is protecting her but god damn MY HEART. COME ON DAME!! ❤

“𝐆𝐨𝐨𝐝𝐛𝐲𝐞, 𝐤𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐬'

Wow, the way Tempest Phan writes, its a whirlwind of emotions and passion. The mental health element was so beautifully written and feels real but yet relatable!

This a must read on everyone's tbr list!
Thank you for this incredible journey!

Damien and Bella are best friends and totally opposites yet destined by fate to be so perfect together. This talented author has done a fantastic job in weaving this story in such a way that I was intrigued and hooked throughout this intricate and riveting tale. This story is an emotional roller coaster journey throughout, with angst, heartbreak, friends / lovers, and is a slow burn, steamy and all-consuming, moving, and heartfelt romance. I look forward to reading more from this talented author, and I highly recommend this story as a definite must read.

This book absolutely wrecked me. You get YA into NA following Damien and Mirabella through their journey into love. It's not a pretty or even happy journey but an emotional mess of two young people finding their way in life with obstacles and outside forces paving a path for them. Since it is a longer journey, this book reflects real life where they may meet other people along the way. But at the very core is a love so deeply ingrained in these two beautiful souls that they do find a happily ever after in the middle of a chaotic but beautiful world.

Devastatingly beautiful tragic love story 🖤💔🖤

angsty friends-to-lovers plus second chance that will break your heart (a lot!) before putting it back together for MF HEA with bittersweet aftertaste 🖤 this is standalone for Bella and Damien's story, though there are more stories planned for the Art of Sinners series 🖤

"My heart ached at the exquisite tragedy of it all."

This quote pretty much sums up my review. I was completely transfixed by Bella and Damien 🖤🖤 The writing is exquisite and often poetic. The characters are incredibly rich, complex, layered, imperfect - and I felt EVERYTHING along their journey. They have that all-consuming, soul-deep love; they are each other's biggest supporters and protectors. But life, difficult circumstances, and drastically different socicioeconomic status place many obstacles and hard choices in their path. Their story is told in Dual-POV over about a ten year period, starting from age 17.

One of the things I love about second chance romance is that it acknowledges that even 'written in the stars fated love' does not mean that each person is where and who they need to be for a relationship with the other and lets the reader follow the characters' growth. One of my favorite things about this story is that it is second chance on a few different levels -- there's the second chance romance for Bella and Damien; there's second chance pivotal life moments for a few characters; there's second chance repairing relationships with others.

"... tears clouding my own vision, my heart so full for this man who was destined to continue breaking it." 💔😭💔😭

This is so much more than a tragic love story ... It touches on grief, mental health, self worth, addiction, and behind-the-scenes glimpses of the rock star's rise to fame. Every moment is written with an emotional depth and intensity that makes reading this story an incredible experience.

I don't want to give spoilers, but since OW/OM angst is something I'm sensitive to and I detest love triangles, I did want to touch on this in my review. Over the course of the story, the characters do have other lovers (*cough* rockstar *cough*) and for a stretch there is a situation that has all of the markings of a love triangle BUT, for me at least, did NOT feel like a traditional love triangle. There's no "ooh, who are they going to pick?" tension. It mostly feels sad, but that doesn't adequately depict it. And as a testament to how incredible the writing is, I felt deeply for this third character without even having their POV and I'm already more than half in love with them. Their love match is still out there somewhere, and I'm pleading with Tempest to make my heart whole again with their story (future release). But, again, this story - I was shipping Bella and Damien the whole time, every heart-breaking and heart-swooning moment of it 🖤🖤

"I’m yours, my Damien James. Always. Only. Yours." 🌸🖤

Tempest has bled her heart and soul into every single page of this incredible debut novel -- seriously one-click this one and grab some tissues 😭😭 - it's soooo good! I'm both ready to re-read and ready for her next release 🖤🖤

This was such an emotional read. I could feel the love and heartache bleeding from the pages. Damien is one of those characters that’ll always stick with you. So damaged but so beautiful. Bella was loyal to Damien and strong despite everything they went through. Lukas... cant say much about Lukas with out spoilers but I LOVE him and can’t wait for more of his story. This story is not short on angst or steam so be prepared for a rollercoaster of emotions!
Tempest did an incredible job with her debut novel. She has a way with words and made her characters so poetic. She created a haunting story that I won’t ever forget. I can’t wait to read more!

Damien, Forever by Tempest Phan is an angsty, friends-to-lovers, second-chance romance with a dash of new adult and a twist of rockstar.

This is Tempest's debut novel and she knocked it out of the park. She did an amazing job pulling me into the story. I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. This isn't your typical romance story...The relationship between Damien and Bella was an emotional roller coaster. But you couldn't help but root for them.

I can't wait for the next book in the series Lukas, Forever to be released in Spring 2021 so I can find out what happened to my poor Lukas. I loved his character and can't wait for him to get his happy ending.

I would highly recommend this book if you love friends-to-lovers, second chance romance, rockstar romance, or angsty romances. This book is meant for all romance lovers!

Tempest Phan is a new author to the indie world, and I'm not going to lie, I researched everywhere to see if Damien, Forever really was her first story because there are no words for what I experienced for real. It's the story of Damien, a boy from the wrong side of the tracks, and his person, Bella. She would do anything for him but there were so many obstacles in their paths that the push & pull angst filled pages hurt so good. It also raises awareness for mental health, not to mention the full picture of what a musician goes through to make it. My heart was smashed into smithereens before any sort of help mending back together so the pain was breathtaking, not to mention the beauty of a love story for the ages. And that's all that I'm going to say about that because you honestly shouldn't be wasting time reading reviews when you can experience all this epic goodness for yourselves! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!

Apparently, Damien, Forever is Tempest Phan's debut novel, but I find that hard to believe. This book is very well written, draws you in from the very first page and doesn't let go. Damien and Bella's story gave me anxiety while reading and left me with a huge book hangover. I want more from this Author NOW.

Damien and Bella are best friends from the young age of 7 although they come from very different worlds. Bella's family is wealthy and her father is a successful businessman while Damien's mother cleans their mansion. That doesn't matter to Bella though and she forms a lifelong friendship with Damien. After losing touch with each other for a few years, Damien comes back as a dark, troubled teenager, but he still has a heart of gold and Bella can't help but fall in love with him. Damien's demons are very strong though and he won't allow himself to be anything more than Bella's friend.

This story stretches out over several years and it is maddening, heartbreaking, and like I said, the anxiety is real. I saw where this story was headed and it hurt my heart. Then, just when I took a sigh of relief and thought that we were headed in a better direction, it took another turn and I just wanted to throw my Kindle. My heart broke for both Damien and Bella. For him, because he just couldn't see his worth. For her, because she was so willing to give up her own happily ever after for those that she cared about.

I didn't want to put this story down and couldn't rest until I knew if Damien and Bella could find their HEA. I must say that my heart broke for other characters in this book as well, and I can't wait to read Lukas's story next. Damien, Forever is an emotional read, but it is so worth the ups and downs, the smiles and the tears.

Deep, dark, and beautiful. So much emotion.

I fell in love easily with both MCs in this story. They were so realistic and raw in their characters which I so rarely find this is in books today. Their struggles, their pain, all of it was beautifully depicted on every page as Damien and Bella fought for each other and their star-crossed love. This book goes deep into the 💙, dark into the mind, and is a beautiful mess of love in its purest form. Get it, you won’t regret it.

I don't know what I could possibly say about this story that would do it justice but I will do my best.
Damien and Bella's story wrecked me in the best possible way. I felt the emotions in this book so deeply thanks to the author's writing.
Tempest has a writing style that is wholly original and all her own. It’s beautifully descriptive with a melodic quality that sometimes made the situation feel real, and sometimes as if I was in a dream; either way, I felt like I was right there.
Damien, is such a beautiful, organic character. The way she described him seemed to lay his very soul right out in front of me, making me feel like he’s a real person. He seems so dark and dangerous, yet he’s sweet and beautiful and everything a young woman should expect from a guy. He was real to me, and my heart broke for him all throughout the story.
For a debut novel, Tempest hit this one out of the park and straight into another universe.
Bravo!!!

I was so lucky to be able to read an advanced copy of this beautiful and amazing book! Get Ready to Swoon...Friend to Love in the best way possible!

What a story. Damien and Bella's journey was a beautifully written masterpiece of gold. A friend-to-love story that was way more than just that. There were times when I needed these two to overcome everything in their lives and just get together, but their journey took time to perfectly get to one another. As outlined in this story, their journey made the book so entertaining.

Damien and Bella met when they were younger, but despite their different social standings, they loved being friends. Bella always had strong feelings for Damien but he backs off a lot and makes it clear he is not good enough for her and needs to make sure she lives her best life. So he stands in the shadows, allowing her to shine. But no matter what, they keep coming back to one another. (CAN YOU SAY, FATE!!!). When enough is enough and he decides to let her go, they both realize that no matter what happens in their lives, or where life takes them, they will always be there for each other even if through text message. Fast forward years later and they still yearn for one another. Do they break through the walls and just be together? Or has too much time passed between them? The big question is, can they overcome their social standings and finally just be together? Or will the hatred her dad has for Damien get too much in the way.

This was Tempest Phan's first book and wow, was it beautifully written. This story grabs your attention from page one. Get ready to swoon and fall head over heels in love with Damien and Bella.

This book! I’m still reeling. Dame and Bella’s story was a slow burn love story for the ages, with characters I ended up caring deeply about. It had it all: a well-developed hero and heroine, a carefully structured plot with just the right amount of push and pull, and oh my god... The feels! The highest of highs and lowest of lows. I went through so much Kleenex reading this. I’m currently going through serious book hangover, so I’m excited to see that the author has books planned for some of the supporting cast. I can’t wait to see them star in their own stories.

Damien is the moody friend with a tragic past from the wrong side of the tracks. He is completely devoted to his best friend, his Baby Girl, Bella. Bella is a no nonsense and full of life. She grew up in a privileged household. She is not your typical spoiled rich girl. She actually cares about other people. These two were made for each other but their road is not easy. You will laugh, cry and get all the feels when take this journey with them. Well written and a story that will stay with you a while.

Damien, Forever by Tempest Phan is the first in the Art of Sinners series, and what a steamy, angsty, emotionally charged novel it is! Damien and Bella have been friends since they were seven, but they're different in every way: their family structure, finance, style, how they react to events, etc. The one thing that's constant is their love and devotion to each other, though Damien's insecurities about his demons makes him feel like he would never be good enough for Bella. The novel spans their childhood, teens, and young adult life, giving the reader a look into the character's innermost feelings as they develop and mature. Bella's so sure in her feelings for Damien and never wavers in her support or belief in him. I was both empathetic and understanding of Damien's reasoning for why he could never pursue Bella, but I was also extremely frustrated at how he kept them at arm's lengths for so long when she was so clearly devoted and WILLING to go through the darkness with him.

Damien's insecurities about his background, his guilt about his sister, and his duty to his mom prevents him from living his life, and contributes to the panic attacks that physically and mentally drains him. Damien's an obviously flawed character, but he's always gentle with Bella, has a quiet strength that turns brutal to protect her, and is determined that she has a happy life, even without him. You see his struggle to bring stability to his life and to create one where he could care for Bella. Though Bella has any material thing imaginable and more money that she can spend, what she's missing is true, authentic, and accepting love, which Damien gives to her freely. So I recognize her desire for it and why she waits so long for it. The great thing about a friends to lovers story is that you can see the foundation of true friendship as the characters explore their sexuality (and there's some great sexy times in this book, especially in that seaside bungalow!), develop their own self identity, and find their way to each other. The theme of identity and home is rampant in this book: Damien and Bella are trying to find and build a home with each other, while developing not only their own sense of identity through their careers and outside of their families, but also an identity as a couple.

For a novel about Damien and Bella, I also was so WORRIED for Lukas. Though he started out cocky, he truly did adore Bella and love did him dirty in this book. I see that he is getting a novel in spring 2021 and I am hardcore holding out for his happily ever after since he truly deserves all the love.

From the moment I picked up this book I was captivated! From its soul-searing romance of friends to lovers, to dealing with issues of mental illness and abuse, this is a book that packs quite an emotional wallop. From the first page to the last readers will find themselves on an unending rollercoaster ride of emotions that will sadden you, while making you smile, before steaming up the pages through interludes involving the heart and soul.

Damien and Bella have had a connection since they were children, becoming inseparable as both experienced losses at an early age that had them finding support by each other's side. It's a connection that's as vital as breathing and is based on love...a love that slowly and steadily turns more physical which ultimately complicates things between them. Their romance definitely put me through the wringer, pulled at my heartstrings through every speed bump thrown their way. For every moment of joy between them, I also witnessed pain through poor decisions and low self-esteem, before differences in their social standings also threw wrenches into their HEA. Theirs is clearly a HEA meant to be though and it's a hard-fought journey to get there. At times both of them frustrated me with their decisions, by letting other people's judgements weigh on them, by denying what was so obvious between them, that I occasionally wanted to throw my kindle against the wall. Despite those moments of frustration I found a romance that I was utterly enthralled by and which had me rooting for them every step of the way.

Damien Mortenson is seen as the town bad boy, the sexy but poor boy from the other side of the tracks whose mother worked for Bella's family and which was the start of the foundation to their lifetime connection. Damien's a tortured soul due to his sister's death, his mother's mental illness, and his father's abandonment that harkens to his own battle with PTSD. Music and Bella are the only bright spots in the darkness of his world, a world that is realistically depicted and had me aching for all that he had to deal with. He's a young man with a caring heart and a protective nature but sees himself as a loser and unworthy of being anything more than a friend to Bella despite their obvious soul deep love. Listening to the negativity led to an even more painful journey to HEA, moments where Damien loses himself in the darkness, and it hurt my heart when reading these sections. These moments left me wanting to hug him non-stop!

There's more to Bella Davenport than just a pretty face, a dutiful daughter from a family of wealth. She's a young woman with a big heart, devoted to and protective of the boy from the wrong side of town. She's the only one who sees the real boy behind the piercings and tats, drawn to his pain in hopes of helping ease it. Early on she seems to be a bit meek, but as the story progressed she became stronger and more self-assertive in what she really wanted which led to moments of heartache and frustration. In spite of that she was always there for Damien, proof of her commitment to him despite all his attempts to push her away. He wanted her to have a life, but there was no life without him in it. Through actions both big and small she set out to show him that truth throughout their very rocky road to HEA.

From the very start readers will find this couple unforgettable and be fully captivated by the ups and downs of their friends to lovers romance. Readers will be pulled into their lives early on, get caught up in all the bright joys and dark moments in their difficult journey to HEA. They're a formidable pair, made stronger and yet more vulnerable by the love between them and I was on edge watching them navigate the highs and lows of their lives. Alongside this enthralling main couple were a colorful cast of secondary characters who I hope to see more of in the future. Lukas Stone, a rich boy lawyer with a love of art who's driven to help those less fortunate than he, is the first one to leave a big impression on me as the facade we see of him early on definitely changes throughout the story. He became someone of real substance towards the end, someone carrying the weight of familial disappointments and pain, and I hope he finds his own HEA soon. Damien's bandmates also intrigued me through their colorful looks and loud natures that belie their softer sides. Their journey to stardom was a rough one, realistic in its hardships as well as the vices that are experienced once fame arrives. I applaud Ms. Phan for the realism she brought to her story, the gritty and raw emotions depicted. This was an epic romance, not always easy to read but well worth all the tears and frustrations along the way. With this being the first installment in An Art of Sinners series readers will be left longingly counting down the days until we revisit this emotionally intense world!

My Damien James, I hope this letter finds you well . . .

I have some notes regarding the writing style of the book... It was just minimal

•repeating the 'SOFTLY' words like million times. It was diverting my attention, we already know that Damien speaks ", softly" no need to be repetitive to the extent. 1 or 2 times, perhaps 3 times was enough.

•The excessive usage of endearment is so cheesy to the point of being OTT. It making me lose my focus on the storyline and dialogue between the main characters.

• I do not know if I just missed reading the reason why Emily died? because I can't remember...

Now onto my review:

Perhaps my biggest takeaway from this book, as I admire the slow burn structure of the story, it was angsty and frustrating to read at times. However, when it comes to the enactment of the plotline it was doubtful and unsatisfying. I saved the first part of the book it perfectly depicted the young forbidden love mood circumstance within. The classic representation of a boy from the wrong side of the track and a girl comes from a wealthy family. The dependable friendship between Bella and Damien made me connects to them, it was plausible and on point. And for sure teenage Mirabella characterization was my highlight for part one.

“You are like the rains after a ravaging fire, baby.”

“But you’re also the inferno that’s burnt its way through my soul. And I will always, always thirst for you. Always.”

Then we reached part two, eight months pass by and these two undertook this sort of 'friend with benefits' set up, though Bella is very much in love with Damien he adamant in dismissing her feelings, and chooses to be even more stubborn, from here on out everything went downhill and downright problematic. An adult Mirabella was not my favorite at this point. her love and loyalty towards Damien were jarring hence the title. I did not like the scene wherein

Also, the material for this book wasn't that noteworthy. if you watched The Runaway Bride starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere you get that vibes here, except that movie was a rom-com and Damien, Forever was not, yes it was romantic but certainly not a comedy.

Then when these two finally together, and Damien finds the courage to be with the love of his life and fucking made up his mind, instead of feeling satisfied and happy, It's just more on okay, didn't exactly leave an impact at all, conceivably the story was dragged too long, my anticipation wore me out.

To conclude Damien, Forever is still a good book for a debut author, just like what I said before the book started strong and engaging, but then part two happen. It was the undertaking that throws me off, I feel indifferent towards the characters, the story wrapped up hastily. I'm just sad for the wasted potential.

Anyway, I did enjoy the story and would still recommend it.

“Goodbye, kisses and bites, Bella baby,” I whispered. “Be happy, sweet baby girl . . .” And I shut my eyes against the darkness.
