Empty words that will be ignored and soon forgotten. As soon as the Leftist Representatives’ friends and allies inform them that such a resolution is “Islamophobic,” they’ll hurry to repeal it. What is much more likely to come in the U.S. now is the rapid encroachment of Sharia blasphemy laws under the guise of restrictions on so-called “hate speech.”
“US House of Representatives passes resolution calling for a global end to blasphemy, heresy, and apostasy laws,” End Blasphemy Laws, December 10, 2020:
In what has been described by End Blasphemy Laws Coalition member, American Humanist Association (AHA) as “a momentous victory for the rights of humanists, nontheists, and religious minorities around the world,” the U.S House of Representatives passed House Resolution 512 by a vote of 386 – 3 on 7 December 2020.
House Resolution 512 calls on the President and Department of State to: “(1) make the repeal of blasphemy, heresy, and apostasy laws a priority in bilateral relationships between the United States and countries that have such laws; (2) designate countries that enforce such laws as countries of particular concern for religious freedom; and (3) oppose efforts by the United Nations to implement an international anti-blasphemy norm” in addition to calling on all states that enforce blasphemy laws to amend or repeal them, and release all those imprisoned pursuant to them….
revereridesagain says
There’s housekeeping needed to be done on that right here at home, where several states still have such laws on the books. They are an embarrassment but the politicians are afraid to remove them and be accused of “godlessness”.
Gee, I wonder why anyone in the 21st century would still be trying to enforce such laws.
gravenimage says
I haven’t seen that there is a lot of resistance to removing such old “blue laws”–but yes, they *should* go.
mgoldberg says
I can’t think of anyone actually prosecuted, I might be wrong, for blasphemy, but… many have been prosecuted for ‘islamophobic’ comments and threatened and sued for daring to discuss anything in that regard. I am jewish, and there’s tons of hate freak comments applied to the religion, and it’s tenets, and almost everything is utter rubbish and worse. But, you don’t see anyone going to jail over any of that- and I’m not for putting people away for rubbish- free speech and discussion to let some sunshine in is the answer. As for the blasphemy laws, I understand Roberts insight into all that. He’s undoubtedly correct and this momentary waving of hands by the house will soon evaperate and disappear as the left and jihadists will assume control and threaten anyone who dares to speak up.

Except when it comes to Islam, of course.
Needless to say, such laws where they are still on the books are not enforced. They *should* be removed–but the only threat today comes from another source–CAIR and others demanding that criticism of Islam not be allowed.

This is good news from Washington DC about the House calling for the repeal Islamic “blasphemy law :the World.
That absurd Islamic law has no place in any Western nation. including that of the United States of America.
Now for the bad news concerning Washington DC, Which that scheming despicable vote stealing politician , has ,so far been successful in his insidious plot for power , Biden will be a awful and total catastrophe and ruin of America and a major calamity and a disaster for the American people.
Sarah Razee says
I couldn’t AGREE more.. There’s no way he won they had to of majorly cheated. They already had their “A$$ handed to them in a silver platter” frankly, they can’t take the chance at not being in total control so Trump had to go.. total crap. Unless it’s ideal for “their” agenda than it’s not going to happen or be entertained even.
The U.S was already destroyed enough by them already it needs more than four years to get it back on track but now bam this idiot Biden will come in the put the final nail in the coffin for extra safety..
JimJFox says
Maybe pessimism is justified what purpose is served? The resolution is a huge step in the right direction and deserves the wait-and-see approach.
As does Biden; but I fear like all here he is likely to be a disaster.
Continuing support for Trump is baffling; despite his praiseworthy work in persuading Islamic countries to recognise Israel he unfortunately proved himself delusional, narcissistic & unhinged – the disgraceful scenes in Washington encouraged by is recklessness are proof enough.
He made a Democrat win a certainty and damaged the Republican party severely.
Continuing to claim the election result is due to a conspiracy is, frankly ridiculous and a refutation of the democratic process.
James Lincoln says
JimJFox,
There were some “irregularities” with the election which are irrefutable.
Several key battleground states changed election procedures without the consent of their respective state legislatures.
This goes against the U.S. Constitution…

reading that critique of israel’s laws you get the gist of the sites ideas. They don’t want any restrictions of any kind, and that has worse problems and outcomes than any of the culturally defined laws of society. Again, blasphemy laws should be abolished, and free speech allowed. But… their sites ideas want more than anti blasphemy laws.
Cornelius says
FROM THE REPORT: In just over half (51%) of cases found, news reports
identified the religion or belief of the accused. Of those
cases, Muslims accounted for more than half (56%) of the
persons arrested, prosecuted, and/or punished for alleged
blasphemy crimes. Of accused Muslims, Shia were the
largest Muslim group identified (51%), followed by Sunni
(8%), Gafatar (6%), Tijaniyya (5%), Ahmadi (5%), and
Salafists (2%). Christians accounted for 25% of accused
persons. Other groups frequently targeted for criminal
blasphemy law enforcement, where identified, included:
Atheists (7%), Baha’is (7%), and Hindus (3%).
It is astonishing that Bahais constitute 7% of world-wide blasphemy accused. It has absolutely no bearing on their actual percentage of world-wide population….(which is a fraction of 1%). Though their world headquarters is in Israel, the majority of Bahais live in Iran. What this number tells us is the extent of the persecution of Bahais in Iran…..and the total absence of religious freedom in that country.

And the vast majority of Muslims prosecuted for “blasphemy” were in Muslim states–Muslims who are considered “heretical” or Insuficiently Islamic.

A bank manager was shot dead by its security guard allegedly over blasphemy allegations in Punjab’s Khushab district on Wednesday, police and relatives said.
Malik Imran Hanif, the manager of the National Bank of Pakistan branch in Quaidabad tehsil of Khushab, was shifted to a local hospital after he was shot by the guard from a rifle. Due to his critical injuries, he was taken to Lahore where he succumbed to his wounds at the Services Hospital.
Khushab District Police Officer (DPO) retired Capt Tariq Wilayat told Dawn it would be premature to comment on the motive behind the murder, but confirmed that the security guard, who was arrested after the incident, had claimed to have killed Hanif over blasphemy.
In a video of the suspect that was shared on social media, the guard could be heard saying that the deceased manager had “insulted the prophet”.
DPO Wilayat said police were investigating the incident. Quoting initial reports, he said the security guard and the manager had been quarrelling for some time. The guard was reportedly fired a few months ago; he was subsequently rehired and had an argument with Hanif a few days ago, the officer added.

This is in line with what Mr. Horowitz wrote in “Dark Agenda.”
It isn’t for the “reason” most people would think, but it is just one more step on the road to making it illegal to be Christian.
fb and other ‘social media’ have permanently banned Mr. Trump, and fb is the giant that the senators ordered to censor any criticism of islam…those aren’t their words, but it sure is their meaning and goal with the demand to disallow “hate” speech against moslims.
pelosi is trying to get Mr. Trump out of office…even though he has less than two weeks left…so why not just wait for biden to step in and pretend to think, or know, what is the best strategy?
One must wonder, why now on such a resolution? The end game is to kill Christianity. But when they get rid of the laws this resolution cites, it still leaves moslims in there fighting for their special ‘rights.’ No doubt, they will succeed.
After all, they don’t plan on limiting sales of certain items on Sunday. They plan on limiting free speech, free choice as to religion, free choice as to how to dress, and no Truth about their evil and their goals.

That Islam “blasphemy law” that some muslim attempted to force on the Western nations is one part in the entire scheme of what is known as the Stealth jihad otherwise called the Muslim method of Islamic Gradualism. In contrast to the way of the violent jihad or also called the militant jihad .This non-violent form of the jihad for Islam is a very sly, insidious, subtle and deceptive way of working for the advancement of Islam with it’s Sharia law upon America as a well as all other Western countries
This Muslim scheme for achieving the goal of the Islamic agenda is as, many times, as subtly effective as it is demonically clever. Furthermore, this Islamic gradualism, in some ways, is very similar to the instruction printed in the book entitled THE ART OF WAR by Sun Tzu. Which reads “At first, then, exhibit the coyness of a maiden, until the enemy gives you an opening; afterwards emulate the rapidity of a running hare, and it will be too late for the enemy to opposes you”

To truthout, ask ? :”Why didn’t our leaders listen ?” Maybe America’s political leader are traicaly a reflection of many non-political citizens living in America and other Western countries For Brigitte Gabriel ,who is the founder and head of actforamerica.org.,in her book entitled BECAUSE THEY HATE provided a sad answer to your question .She wrote “The West is ignorant and refuses to learn.”
Walter Sieruk says
A message, very much ,need to be sent to those stealth jihad- minded Muslims who are living in the USA who attempt to have Sharia law enacted in this country.,as Omar and Tlaib They need to be reminded that the United States had something that is far better than Sharia law. It’s the US Constitution. This is America, not Iran.
As the former US President, Theodore Roosevelt, had well-spoken when he declared in a speech “There can be no fifty-fifty Americanism in this country. There is only room here for only hundred percent Americanism, only for those who are Americans and nothing else.”

This won’t matter before too long. The House of Representatives and our incoming government is either fiddling while the country burns or else pouring gasoline on the fire.
Kong Zi said that if there is no popular confidence, the state cannot stand (Analects 12:7) 50.1% against 49.9% is not a safe margin to say “the people have spoken”.
I do not condone the breaching of the Capitol. But the breaching of the Capitol by Mr. Trump’s supporters (though not necessarily at his bidding–mobds take on lives of their own) should be a very frightening and urgent wakeup call. While Nancy Pelosi bans binary language in the House to please <1% who don't know if they're male or female, there is 39% of the body politic that believes that the election was fraudulent. They may be wrong, but they are there. Even more frightening, this is the portion of the population for whom respect and honoring legitimate authority is the basic, default political instinct. The Capitol mob (which I DO NOT condone) may well represent a moment when Middle America gave up on the constitutional machinery in which it had implicit faith for a long time. If the Democrats wish to unify the country, they need to conciliate seventy million + people with whom "stop the steal" resonates (something like the Carter-Baker summit on election integrity redone, anyone?). It will take wisdom, tact, vision, and much courage, but it must be done if the Republic is to be saved.
All summer and throughout the autumn, Veep Harris encouraged the BLM and Antifa mobs in their demonstrations and occupations of cities, including the buring of businesses which members of disadvantaged minority groups had built drop of sweat by drop of sweat, and long hour after long hour. Hence, when the Pres-elect Biden speaks of "thugs" and "insurrectionists", he sounds like a dweller in a glass house who wishes to hone his stone-throwing technique.
Earlier, I mentioned Speaker Pelosi's frivolous ban on "binary" language, even if the XY's she seeks to accommodate claim they're women. She is old enough to know that the "he" or "him" to make a pronoun agree with an antecedent of indeterminate gender is understood as neutral. Female teachers drummed into some of us even younger than Mrs. Pelosi is. She is blithely unaware that ESOL teachers across the land address Hispanophone parents as "Padres estimados" when mothers are present (ordinary Spanish usage, and accepted as inclusive). It's probably too much to ask of even a West Coast politician to know that the Sinitic and Kradai languages don't gender their third person pronouns, yet are used by cultures that can be as male chauvinist as any culture using a highly gendered Indo-European or Semitic speech. Now she is only vindictive towards those whom she sees on the other side.
For sixty years, American conservatives have been the attentive and obedient, if unwilling, pupils in a compulsory political education largely managed by the Left, in which many an insurrection against things they value greatly (including political compact and limited govrnment) must be acquiesced in, if not celebrated. Now the pupil has graduated, and has shown two can play any game teacher proposes.
We badly need wise, brave, and listening bridge builders, but we have people who have been merrily rendering chasms wider and deeper.
God save these United States.
Hoi Polloi says
“While Nancy Pelosi bans binary language in the House to please <1%”….. Telling, isn’t it, that amening and awomening (failing to even look into the definition of amen, to boot) is their focus while people all across the country were planning a march on DC. “I will cut the tongue and eyes of those who want to amend the blasphemy law.” – Amir Mushtaq Khan, Jamaat-e-Islami Leader, Pakistan
The right to blaspheme is one the fundamental rights of European civilization. It can be argued that our freedom of expression IS the right to blaspheme…principally, it was the right to rebel against the Roman Catholic Church and its monopoly to interpret the Bible and Christian tradition.
Our right to blaspheme was best explained by the US Supreme Court. Justice Clark in 1952 wrote: “…it is enough to point out that the state has no legitimate interest in protecting any or all religions from views distasteful to them. … It is not the business of government in our nation to suppress real or imagined attacks upon a particular religious doctrine.”
Additionally, Justice Frankfurter noted that beliefs which are “…dear to one may seem the rankest ‘sacrilege’ to another,” and added concerning “sacrilegious” speech: “…history does not encourage reliance on the wisdom and moderation of the censor.”
What the American justices were getting at is that the US has no establishment of religion. A US Supreme Court justice has no ‘official’ explanation of blasphemy, since there is no ‘official’ faith.
At present, there is no effective blasphemy law, since the US has no establishment of religion.

All good points, Mortimer. In fact, John Adams as a boy witnessed the last blasphemy trial in America. Even though the defendant was not found guilty, he considered the whole thing a parody of justice. Still the norm in the Muslim world, though, these hundreds of years later.
