KCFF21 COMING SOON: FEB 26-MAR 7, 2021

We announced our film program on Friday and if you haven't had a chance - CHECK OUT THE LINEUP!  Beyond the films, here are some other things we're queuing up for KCFF21:

MUSIC IN THE MOVIES: Film Scoring Panel
For musicians interested in making music for film, check out our FILM SCORING PANEL on Saturday, March 6 at 4:00 pm.  We'll be joined by Blitz//Berlin's Martin Macphail (who has worked on films like BirdBox, The Girl On The Train, Bad Times At The El Royale, Fifty Shades of Grey, Top Gun: Maverick, and the Blade Runner 2049 prequel Nexus Dawn).  We're also joined by Australian/Canadian composer Michelle Osis and Terry Benn who scored the music for BLOODTHIRSTY (which screens at KCFF21).  Free, but preregistration is required.

BREAKING IN: Starting a career in film and media
For those interested in the film industry in general, check out our popular BREAKING IN event, Friday March 5, 4pm.  Connect with industry pros for serious advice on how to break in and get started in the Canadian film and media industry.  Free, but preregistration is required.

COMIC ART WORKSHOP
Back by popular demand, KCFF goes digital with our COMIC ART WORKSHOP, highlighting dynamic figure drawing and storytelling using the classic comic book styles! Suitable for all ages and skill levels. $20 per student - reserve your spot now!

Q&A's, Q&A's LOTS OF Q&As!
All our films will be accompanied by a live post-screening Q&A with the director(s)!  You can take part by playing the film at the advertised start time for each film.  If you miss it, you can still catch the pre-recorded Q&A's until the end of the Fest - simply stream the film and the Q&A will start automatically after the closing film credits!

MEET THE PRODUCER OF SCHITT'S CREEK
Can't wait until the Fest?  This Thursday (Feb 11), 6:30 pm, Queen’s Film and the Kingston Film Office host a free live chat around "working on set" and will feature Kosta Orfanidis (Producer, Schitt's Creek) and Queen’s Film alumni Amy Cuthbertson (Production Coordinator / Supervisor, The Expanse, Hannibal). This discussion will look at their career paths, current work, and advice on getting into the industry - plus plenty of time for questions.  Pre-register now!

WHAT ELSE...

What happens when an ordinary family, living just south of the Arctic Circle, bans all grocery store food from their house for one year? Add three skeptical teenagers, one reluctant husband, no salt, no caffeine, no sugar and -40° temperatures.  KCFF chats with director Suzanne Crocker about her new film FIRST WE EAT, screening at KCFF21!  (You may remember Suzanne's previous film ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD which won the KCFF15 People's Choice Award).  Check it out!

Our friends at the Kingston Frontenac Public Library have hand-picked book titles that expand on the themes explored in the 2021 KCFF lineup. You can enhance your festival experience with incredible selections from their film and book pairings. With a few more weeks before KCFF begins, you can explore the book recommendations here and borrow a book or two! Once we wrap, KFPL will have some tie-in film recommendations, too.

REWIND FAST FORWARD - EP#4

Our next podcast episode features Winnipeg director Sean Garrity (available this Monday, February 15)!  If you missed the first three episodes with Jeff Barnaby, Audrey Cummings, and Matt Johnson, they're available here!

Episode #4 Introduction:

Zooey and Adam is one of the most powerful films I have seen in recent memory, taking a dramatic and risky twist on the issue of birth rights, parenting and the deceptive line between love and hate. It’s the third feature film from Sean Garrity who we speak with today on Rewind, Fast Forward.

His first feature, Inertia earned him The Best Canadian First Feature Film at the 2001 Toronto International Film Festival.

His films range from suspense to comedy; from sexual farce to family-friendly.  His movies are often fiercely independent, and yet, as he proved with the commercial success of the 2015 romantic-comedy, After the Ball, highly marketable.

Join me and Sean Garrity as we talk from his home in Winnipeg, Manitoba, about independent filmmaking, working out west, and the importance film festivals have for Canadian Filmmakers.
