Malaysia has for a considerable period had a reputation as “moderate,” but it is moving toward full implementation of Sharia.
The death penalty for apostasy is part of Islamic law. It’s based on the Qur’an: “They wish you would disbelieve as they disbelieved so you would be alike. So do not take from among them allies until they emigrate for the cause of Allah. But if they turn away, then seize them and kill them wherever you find them and take not from among them any ally or helper.” (Qur’an 4:89)
A hadith depicts Muhammad saying: “Whoever changed his Islamic religion, then kill him” (Bukhari 9.84.57). The death penalty for apostasy is part of Islamic law according to all the schools of Islamic jurisprudence.
This is still the position of all the schools of Islamic jurisprudence, both Sunni and Shi’ite. Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, the most renowned and prominent Muslim cleric in the world, has stated: “The Muslim jurists are unanimous that apostates must be punished, yet they differ as to determining the kind of punishment to be inflicted upon them. The majority of them, including the four main schools of jurisprudence (Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi’i, and Hanbali) as well as the other four schools of jurisprudence (the four Shiite schools of Az-Zaidiyyah, Al-Ithna-‘ashriyyah, Al-Ja’fariyyah, and Az-Zaheriyyah) agree that apostates must be executed.”
Qaradawi also once famously said: “If they had gotten rid of the apostasy punishment, Islam wouldn’t exist today.”
“Police investigating case of non-Muslim man in apostasy case, says minister,” Bernama, February 21, 2021 (thanks to The Religion of Peace):
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 21 — Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Seri Zulkifli Mohamad Al Bakri today urged the public to let the relevant authorities to take the necessary action against the non-Muslim man who claimed on video, which has since gone viral, to have got a Muslim woman to apostatise.
He said the police were now investigating the matter.
“The position of Islam is guaranteed under Article 3 of the Federal Constitution, while Article 11 of the Federal Constitution recognises the rights and freedom of religion for Muslims and those from other religions.
“Even so, the spread of the religions, other than Islam, is subject to Article 11 (4) of the Federal Constitution,” he said in a statement today.
He said the clause empowered states to formulate laws to control the spread of other religions to Muslims, including attempts to persuade, coax or invite Muslims to leave their religion either through preaching, marriage or any other means….

Article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that “everyone has the right to freedom of religion, freedom to CHANGE HIS RELIGION and freedom to MANIFEST his religion in TEACHING, practice, worship and observance.”

Malaysia is the third member of the Turkey-Pakistan-Malaysia ‘anti-islamophobia’ axis. Anybody who thinks they’re remotely moderate is a moron. This is also the country that harbors Zakir Naik, the former Indian dawa artist, who’s wanted by the Indian authorities for causing communal strife
That aside, even if a Malaysian citizen was successful in getting a muslim to apostatize, how stupid was he that he needed to put it on social media, where there was bound to be a repercussion coming his way, both from mobs within his country as well as from his country’s islamic government

Investigation should focus on the one who are still part of Islam and not on those who left.

Islam is such a bad joke. In civilised countries, people are allowed to follow their consciences when it comes to the religion they believe in or, perhaps, to have no religious belief at all. Thuggish, pathetic islam can’t bring itself to be humane and decent enough to let people, using the basic freedom that all human beings should possess, to choose such basic things as the religion they believe in. Backward, primitive garbage as usual. I wonder if they think that islam would collapse like a pack of cards if people were allowed to choose freely.

Interviewer: “For example, is it the right of the Muslim to convert to Christianity or another religion?”
Egyptian sheikh Yassir al-Burhani: “Of course this is not a right.”

Yes, Michael, to me, as a person who has been brought up in an enlightened western society, I cannot get my head around this truly bizarre and downright evil idea in Islamic societies that a person is not allowed to follow their conscience and move between religions or have no religion. As mortimer points out , in his comment up above, this freedom to follow your conscience is a basic human right. And this Islamic idea of killing anyone who leaves islam is one of the most sickening ideas I have ever heard of and is totally alien to my way of thinking. Islam is so sick in so many ways. The Muslim mentality is extraordinarily weird to me in so many ways.

It would seem that showing someone that they have made a mistake in their lives and getting them to change for the better is, in fact a crime in Malaysia.
The Malay government, like most other mudslime nations, don’t want their population to be able to think for themselves and make decisions that would improve their lives.
The mullahs have to maintain control no matter what.

Malaysia government is persecuting non-Muslims. Some left UN “human-right” NGO tried to brainwash non-Muslims that only minority of Muslims are extremist. However, when it come to a situation that the government executes its power to deprive freedom and human-right of a non-Muslim citizen maliciously by the name of Islamic reason, neither majority Muslims nor UN “human-right” NGO are willing to stand up and fight for injustice action taken by the government.

Malaysia: Police investigating non-Muslim’s claim that he convinced a Muslim woman to leave Islam
…………..
In Malaysia it is illegal for any Muslim or native Malayan to leave Islam.
I hope this non-Muslim–and the woman he is accused of helping–are able to get out.
Andrew Blackadder says
Malaysia is so “moderate” that they have made a Law making it ILLEGAL for a non muslim to use the word, “allah”, as that, they say, is a word ONLY for muslims to use, even though it is an Arabic word and Malaysia is NOT an Arabic speaking country.
The Christians in the Middle East have used the word allah for Centuries, as that is the name of God in Arabic, and so Christians used the word long before islam even existed.
The penalty in Malaysia today, for leaving islam is two years in Prison and as everybody in that Prison, mainly muslims, will know why the apostate is in Prison and so this will not be a comfortable two years.
The reason the word allah is now forbidden in Malaysia came from an old bearded smelly Iman who said, and this was in the Star Newspaper, the main Paper in Malaysia.
Quote: If a muslim is walking down the street and he hears the word allah coming from inside a Church, the muslim may become CONFUSED and enter the Church thinking its a mosque, and by doing so will automatically be converted to Christianity and therefore will be headed to the hell fire….
The Iman admits that it is so easy to confuse a muslim who cannot tell a Church from a mosque..
Go figure…
I was living in Malaysia when this law came to pass…
