Lost Stars #2

When the Storm Breaks

Rate this book
Our worlds never should have collided, but it seemed our paths were always destined to cross.

Brody McCallister was only supposed to be a means to an end. My golden ticket to get me closer to what I really needed—a way to make peace with what I’d done when I was eighteen, dirt poor, and left to fend for myself.

I only had six weeks in the middle of a hectic world tour to do it.
So the last thing I needed was to fall for a cocky cowboy. A walking contradiction with a charming grin, a dirty mouth, and a gift for healing wild and broken things.

His life was in Texas.
Mine was on the road.
He guarded his privacy fiercely.
I was constantly hounded by paparazzi.

Everyone warned me it could never work, that ultimately I’d be forced to choose—my music career or him.
I didn’t listen. I fell for him anyway.
Hook, line, and proverbial sinker.

But Brody was hiding secrets.
And when the storm finally broke, it destroyed everything in its wake ... including us.

➽ KITTY KATS CRAZY ABOUT BOOKS

WHEN THE STORM BREAKS: is the second full length romance book in the series 'LOST STARS', by Emery Rose. Spoken in 'Dual Perspectives.'

This book was AMAZING! Inhaled at record speeds, DEVOURED like there was no tomorrow, ALL THE FEELS. Once started I couldn’t put it down. I just wanted more, never wanting this book to end. TWISTS AND TURNS came at me out of nowhere!!

On her thirteenth birthday her MawMaw predicted that Shiloh's path is destined to cross with a man who may become her everything if she chooses right.

At a young age Shiloh had always dreamed of becoming a rockstar. Along with Landon, her brother and his best friend Dean, they'd formed a band 'Acadian Storm', to become famous she would sacrifice everything to make it happen.

151910144-1029450200882985-7473267707971186222-o

Years go by and all her dreams became a reality, sacrifices had indeed occurred along the way leaving a band disbanded and relationships severed, but the one positive it had was Shiloh striking out on her own and creating her own fame.

Under the pretence of needing some R&R for six weeks she heads for Texas needing to lay to rest something she'd done when she was eighteen.

It's here where she meets thirty-three year old horse wrangler Brody, she's staying on his property in a self contained cabin.

Neither of them expected the attraction that hit them as soon as they met. The butterflies, the sizzling energy between them. When opposites attract.

“Maybe we shouldn’t have made sense. Maybe there was no world in which we ever should have gotten together. But somehow, we were two imperfect, flawed people who fit together perfectly and made each other’s worlds a better place.”
It was a beautiful book, an unexpected couple and a fairy tale story!
It’s worth the reading.

4.5 stars!

Oh, I loved this book! A beautifully emotional rockstar romance that is sweet, sexy and intense, with just the right amount of angst, and a whole lot of heart.

This is the second book in the Lost Stars series. You can read this as a standalone, but just beware that this book has spoilers for the first in the series, When the Stars Fall.

Those who read the first book will remember Brody McCallister. He was the third in a trio of best friends (with Jude and Lila) whose life was turned upside down in the aftermath of his friends' tumultuous relationship. But Jude and Lila are now together, Brody is the single father to an adorable six-year-old son, and he owns a ranch where he works with his beloved horses. He is settled, but he is closed off and broody, and tends to keep to himself. And God, he’s a wonderfully complex character!

Shiloh Leroux has overcome loss, a poor childhood and troubled teenage years to become one of the biggest rockstars in the world. She still struggles with her past, and in trying to come to terms with it all and find some peace, she travels to a small town in Texas during a six week break in the middle of her world tour, and she is staying in a cabin on Brody’s land. It’s just the calm and quiet that she was hoping for, but she never expected a grumpy cowboy to completely upend her life.

Something big was headed our way. I didn’t know if the outcome would be good or bad, but I knew one thing with absolute certainty. Neither of us would come out of it unscathed.

The chemistry between Brody and Shiloh is electric from the very start. The attraction absolutely sizzles, and after some epic flirting and banter, some fun teasing, and more than a little bit of innuendo, they agree to explore their mad lust for each other while Shiloh is in town (hot!!!! Brody is a dirty talker, and the sexy time is steaming!). Neither of them were planning on anything more than that, but when the time comes for Shiloh to leave, letting go is harder than they thought.

Being this close to Brody made me feel like I’d found a home after years of searching for a place—or a person—who could fill up the empty space inside me, heal my cracked heart and make it beat just for him.
Now that I’ve found you, how will I ever let you go? What will I do without you?

I love this love story! It’s easy and natural, and so, so sexy, and I could feel everything as Brody and Shiloh fall hard for each other. But falling for each other is simple when they are living in their peaceful bubble. Real life brings a whole new set of challenges.

I wanted to be number fucking one in Shiloh’s life, but there wasn’t a chance in hell of that ever happening. Why settle for runner-up to music and world tours and platinum albums, and all the other shit that would always take precedence?

It’s a beautiful but painful journey for them as they figure out what they want. Their lives couldn’t be more different, and I loved watching them explore everything that is between them while figuring out how to make it work amidst the chaos of their lives.

“Will you fight for me, Brody? Will you still be here when the going gets tough?”
“I’m right here.”

They share a truly special connection, and I love that we get to see so much of it, and I was swept up in a world of swoon seeing them together.

We were two imperfect, flawed people who fit together perfectly and made each other’s worlds a better place.
Shiloh and I belonged together. It was just that fucking simple. And I’d do whatever it took to hang on to the good thing I found.

There are dramatic and angsty moments, and a few shocks along the way, but we know how it’s going to end, so it’s just a matter of holding on and waiting for the happy, which is super satisfying, and left me with a huge smile on my face.

“It feels like I have loved you from the beginning of time and I will love you to the end.”

Jude and Lila from the first book feature prominently, I loved the scenes with Brody and his son, Noah, and we get to know more of the McCallister family. There are more brothers just begging to have their stories told – with some great set-ups already in place – and I am really excited to read more in this series.

Absolutely loved this one – 4.5 stars!

REVIEW: 3 STARS
"Sometimes you have to be willing to lose something in order to be the winner."

I knew I was looking forward to this book after reading When the Stars Fall, but unfortunately, I also feel like this one didn't give me the kind of story I was hoping for. I am so disappointed with it. A little sad at the turn of events. I wanted so much more after reading the first book that I feel so let down... To be fair, the love in this story was beyond exceptional. Originally, the dynamic between Brody's world and Shiloh's world was what drew me in. I loved Brody and Shiloh as a couple and that kind of love will be the reason why I can definitively say that I will continue reading this series. While this one wasn't a win for me in the ways the first book was, I did enjoy this book as I was reading it. I loved the love and I enjoyed that aspect so very much.

If there is one thing I can pick out about Rose's writing beyond the ease of her words, it's that she gives a love that has no other option but to grow. A strategic fight for what their hearts needed. She gave me a love that only had one answer, and that was Shiloh's heart answering the call of Brody's heart....and vice versa. Them not being together wasn't an option and I love how she let that play out in certain parts. She has a full-bodied story growth. Her words move with the story and I love the picture she paints - it's very easy to follow, and that makes it more enjoyable. It's the story she's telling that I really didn't enjoy this time. This time, I felt there were too many converging storyline plots mixed into this amazing love story....and sadly, some felt undernourished and didn't add to the overall storyline, or were just added drama, or worse - word count. If something doesn't enhance the story as a whole, I feel like it's just unnecessary. There were a few plot points like that with this one.

"I'm just looking for some calm in the storm."

I love that Rose was able to put me in her characters' position, making me feel their emotions as I was strolling through their story. She made broody sound so natural on Brody, and she made him just so perfect. He made me smile! His smirk. His gruffness. His lazy grin. Yummm. My favorite part was the natural growth/progression of their relationship that made me want to push them together more, made me want to root for them, made me want to see them finally get together and have some fun. Some good fun. THEY were my favorite part. They were the reason why I couldn't stop reading this book.

So the first book tangled me up emotionally and it really grabbed a hold of me and moved me. This second one was a little more cryptic with its words, but it was easy to follow - her writing is generally very easy to follow and the flow is there. There were some bittersweet moments in the beginning with Shiloh, as well as some emotional ones - and it was a great look into Shiloh's childhood and "who" she was. Memory smells and sights and sounds from her childhood added a comfort to her formative years - and it also made her somewhat relatable.

Some parts were really cohesive and they melded really well, and some pieces were not quite as cohesive. They just didn’t blend in as well. They felt kind of misplaced, but again - the story itself was good. The curiosity kept pushing me because I wanted to find out why Shiloh was there and what Brody had to do with it. But after finding out why....well, that really put a damper on my feelings about her. Tragic in its own right, it was selfish on her part to do what she did and I had a huge problem with that because she wasn't thinking about the "other" aspect of it. It felt very self-serving and selfish.

The story itself was really good and I loved the juxtaposition of these characters, even if getting there in the beginning was a bumpy ride at first. It felt a little coerced in some spots....but again, the LOVE worked for me. I like this author. I genuinely like her, her style....her voice. It all works for me. It's just the direction of this story did not work for me.

I am not saying it was terrible or that I wouldn't recommend this book - I am saying this book didn't work for me as well as the first with all the different avenues taken to get their story out. I loved the love story that was the hidden gem in this book and I'm easily admitting I'm looking forward to more and will continue reading this series. The next book up in the series is Where the Road Ends, and I'm hoping for a certain character to get their story - so, fingers crossed.

And this cover....my gosh, this cover is amazing and sooo fitting for the deliciousness that is Brody. This full series so far has covers that are shelf worthy.

"Why do I get the feeling you'll be more trouble than you're worth?"
"I don't know. I feel the opposite about you. I have a feeling you're worth all the trouble."

Have you ever read such a beautiful book, but had no idea how to review it because no matter what you say, your words would fall short of the pure beauty it encompasses? That's this book. This book is tragic and hopeful, heartbreaking and beautiful, filled with past regrets and broken hearts, with two people who are so different, but to their very core are just meant to be in *every* single way.

Gosh, I just loved Shiloh and Brody so much. I've been eagerly awaiting his story ever since I finished Jude's book, and I'm going to say something that might piss some of you off: but my man Brody? He was so much better than Jude. My beautiful, broken, resilient horse of a man who loves so fiercely yet is so convinced that he isn't worthy of a forever love, owns my heart and soul. He's ever h contradiction under the sun, but his sole purpose is to protect his family, especially his adorable son, and the brother who is the exact replica of how he was as a teenager. I just loved how much he's grown into himself during the last book, and how much he continued to grow with Shiloh. And his backstory?! Oh man I knew it was coming, but I still cried buckets of tears. Have I mentioned yet how much I love this man?!

As for Shiloh, I loved everything about her as well! She's a famous musician who just recently branched away from her brother and ex -- whom both are super freaking toxic -- to peruse her own independent career. She's taking a break from her life and decided to come to the town where Brody is -- and more specifically to the town where someone very important to her lives.. even if they have no idea who she is. Shiloh has so many layers to her as well, and she definitely had some scars on her heart, but I just loved how playful she made Brody. They just had so much fun together, but could easily have the emotional moments too. I loved how they both fought so hard to fit into each other's worlds despite how very different their lives were. And that twist?! What a jaw dropper!!

I just can't say this enough: this book is fucking amazing! I felt absolutely everything, smiled and swooned right along with Shiloh, felt Brody's despair, cried alllll the tears, and immediately wanted to read this book all over again. Emery definitely outdid herself with this one!!

**I received an ARC of this book and these are my honest opinions!**

When the Storm Breaks is the second book in the Lost Stars series and what a beautiful read this was. I absolutely loved the first book in this series but i somehow knew that Brody McCallister would steal my heart and i was totally right.

If you have read the first book in this series When the Stars Fall (if you haven't you should ASAP) you already met Brody McCallister. All what we knew about him is that he had a tragic past and he saw and lived what no kid should have. He is someone with many demons and skeletons in his closet, someone who is rude and at times disrespectful but all of that is a defense mechanism to protect himself and keep people away. Until her, Shiloh Leroux.

𝒏𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒐𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒉𝒂𝒅 𝑰 𝒍𝒐𝒐𝒌𝒆𝒅 𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒐 𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒐𝒏𝒆’𝒔 𝒆𝒚𝒆𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒇𝒆𝒍𝒕 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝑰 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒍𝒐𝒐𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂𝒕 𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒘𝒉𝒐 𝒘𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒑𝒐𝒘𝒆𝒓 𝒕𝒐 𝒘𝒓𝒆𝒄𝒌 𝒎𝒆.

Shiloh Leroux dreamed all her life of becoming a star, all what she wanted to do was shine so bright. Her Maw Maw told her she will be what she wants, but in life you can't have it all; everything comes with a price, and some things just cost more than others. When a chance comes to try and fix something she did in the past, she takes it. But the last thing she expected was to fall in love.

I loved everything about these two. Their story was heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time. Life was not easy for both of them, but they were strong and they managed to weather the storm. This book is about facing you demons and fears its about moving on and not letting the past control you. This book was about two broken people who managed to heal each other with love. Brody stole my heart and after knowing his story i fell more in love with him.

Emery did it again. She delivered a masterpiece that left me breathless and I'm so thankful that i took a risk and read her book.

I knew going in, that the story we got for Brody, would be something as special as the man he is. He absolutely fascinated me in WHEN THE STARS FALL. Like something you want to grab a hold of and look at, but was always just out of reach. He was an enigma. A beautiful mystery.

And from the very moment Brody & Shiloh meet, they are a force to be reckoned with. The Cowboy and the Rockstar, all full of spitfire and sass. Brody met his match when it comes the gorgeous pint size girl living in his guesthouse. She knew how to draw him out and put him in his place. And he knew exactly what to do rile her up. Their relationship was a beautiful, fiery, passionate thing. Something that spoke intimately to me. I couldn’t get enough.

I cannot wait to see who comes next with this amazing series. Which McCallister boy will we hear from? I want to know them all and see their stories come to life with each book. 5 Stars!

When the Storm Breaks is book two from the standalone series, Lost Stars by Emery Rose. Although this series is a set of standalones, the books center around the same family so for a better understanding of the family dynamic as well as to enhance the reading experience I would suggest reading the books in the order they are released. With that being said, if you’re looking for an angsty, small-town romance about a cowboy and a rock star who couldn’t lead more different lives but somehow fit perfectly together, then look no further!

We first met Brody McCallister in book one, When the Stars Fall, and I think all readers were rooting for the broody, bad boy cowboy to get his happily ever after, and in When the Storm Breaks, he finally does. But trust me when I tell you, it’s going to be a wild ride.

❝𝐼’𝑚 𝑗𝑢𝑠𝑡 𝑙𝑜𝑜𝑘𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑠𝑜𝑚𝑒 𝑐𝑎𝑙𝑚 𝑖𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑠𝑡𝑜𝑟𝑚.❞
For years Shiloh has sacrificed in order to reach her dreams of becoming a rock star, but now that she’s made it she can’t help but have some regrets. So she packs up and leaves LA and heads to Cypress Springs, Texas. Shiloh has six weeks to find closure with decisions she was forced to make at eighteen years old before she has to head back and finish up the rest of her tour.

But closure isn’t the only thing Shiloh finds on a horse ranch in Texas…

When the Stars Fall , Jude and Lila’s story was an amazing read and I thought “Oh yeah, there is no topping these two and their story!” They were the IT couple, the two that were destined to be together…. But I have to admit, although I still love them, I am most definitely Team Bro-loh all the way! #Brody+Shiloh
❝𝑀𝑎𝑦𝑏𝑒 𝑤𝑒 𝑠ℎ𝑜𝑢𝑙𝑑𝑛’𝑡 ℎ𝑎𝑣𝑒 𝑚𝑎𝑑𝑒 𝑠𝑒𝑛𝑠𝑒. 𝑀𝑎𝑦𝑏𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝑛𝑜 𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑙𝑑 𝑖𝑛 𝑤ℎ𝑖𝑐ℎ 𝑤𝑒 𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟 𝑠ℎ𝑜𝑢𝑙𝑑 ℎ𝑎𝑣𝑒 𝑔𝑜𝑡𝑡𝑒𝑛 𝑡𝑜𝑔𝑒𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟. 𝐵𝑢𝑡 𝑠𝑜𝑚𝑒ℎ𝑜𝑤, 𝑤𝑒 𝑤𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑡𝑤𝑜 𝑖𝑚𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑓𝑒𝑐𝑡, 𝑓𝑙𝑎𝑤𝑒𝑑 𝑝𝑒𝑜𝑝𝑙𝑒 𝑤ℎ𝑜 𝑓𝑖𝑡 𝑡𝑜𝑔𝑒𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟 𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑓𝑒𝑐𝑡𝑙𝑦 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑚𝑎𝑑𝑒 𝑒𝑎𝑐ℎ 𝑜𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟’𝑠 𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑙𝑑𝑠 𝑎 𝑏𝑒𝑡𝑡𝑒𝑟 𝑝𝑙𝑎𝑐𝑒.❞
Emery Rose is an amazing author who never fails to knock me on my butt. Just when I think I know where a story is going, she throws something at me that leaves my head spinning and my jaw on the floor. The chemistry, the love, the heartache, the togetherness of the McCallister family… small-town romances don’t get much better than this!

Trust me when I tell you, this is one ride you do not want to miss!

You’ve got Brody’s brother Ridge who kind of came out of nowhere but is equally as interesting as the rest of the gang and then you have Jude’s brothers, Brody’s cousins, Jesse and Gideon who live completely different lives and have completely different personalities so I’d love to see a book from all of their perspectives and for each one of them to get their happily ever afters.

"Why isn’t love ever easy?”
In my experience, love has never been easy. It’s messy and complicated. Like people. Like life. Nothing worth having ever comes easy. You have to fight for the things that matter”.

We were intrigued by Brody in When the Stars Fall (Lost Stars #1) and couldn’t wait to dig a little deeper into his past, and of course, spend some time with Brody and his sweet little boy Noah. What a wonderful relationship these two had. We knew it would take a tenacious woman to snag this gorgeous gruff cowboy and gain his hard-earned trust, and once again, this author didn’t let us down.

‘That night I fell a little bit harder for the man who fixed broken horses and for the boy who had been forced to see the ugly side of life too young.’

Whilst this book can be read as a standalone, we would suggest reading in order as there are major spoilers relating to the first book, and if you want to experience Jude and Lila’s story, we recommend reading their book first for a better understanding of the relationship between these three friends.

Thirty-three-year-old Brody is a cowboy with his feet firmly planted on home soil in Cypress Springs, Texas. Twenty-five-year-old Shiloh (Shy) Leroux is a woman with music in her blood. At only thirteen, thanks to her Maw Maw’s second sight, Shy knew music was going to be her life. She lives for her music and thrives on stage before a crowd. Brody and Shy are opposites in every way.

“Shiloh, what is the one thing you want most in the world?”
“I want to find my one true love. And I want to be a rock star.”

After an acrimonious split from her band Acadian Storm, Shy is heading to Texas for a ‘break’, with an ulterior motive for her visit. What she didn’t plan was the hot, handsome, and rugged cowboy stealing her heart. There’s more to Brody than he lets on and chipping away at his defences takes some work. Brody is carrying a tonne of baggage, but one person who does have his heart is Noah, his adorable little six-year-old son, the love between these two completely stole our hearts!

Brody had a tough upbringing which is slowly and heartbreakingly revealed throughout the story, and we also get to know a little about Brody’s teenage brother, Ridge. Wow! There were so many layers to Brody, and we loved peeling them back, revealing the man beneath the prickly exterior.

‘If her lyrics were a reflection of what she wanted and needed in her life, one thing was blindingly clear. Shiloh was looking for someone to love her.’

There are so many twists and turns in When the Storm Breaks, our stomachs were in constant turmoil. The angst was spot on, and Brody’s past ripped our hearts to pieces. We loved nearly all the surprises and shocks this author dealt, keeping us constantly on our toes, however, there was one twist towards the end that unfortunately didn’t work for us. In fact, had it not been for this plot twist, this would have been a 5-star read. We found it a bit too hard to swallow and it wasn’t needed at this stage. What a fabulous read though, and another winner in the Lost Star Series.

We’re officially addicted and hope more characters get to tell their story! We know we’ll be there for every single one of them! Who will be next we wonder? We want to hear them all! If you love angst, heat, passion, rock stars, cowboys and romance, a small-town vibe, and a loveable little boy, be sure to add this book to your TBR’s!

LOVED Brody & Shiloh!!!!!!

Brody & Shiloh are living two very different lifestyles and when a series of actions taken by Shiloh places her directly in Brody's path, the two soon form a very friendly "physical" relationship. However, it's difficult to keep your emotions at bay when you find yourself connecting with them in a way you never have with another. All of a sudden you realize that what you once considered love with another was just a tiny piece of what you felt for this person!

After meeting and falling in love with Brody in When the Stars Fall, I couldn't wait for his book!
♥️ Although, the plot went in a different direction that I anticipated I quickly learned where the author was taking this one and all of a sudden a new love for Brody formed! I adored the dedication this man felt once he decided to make her his. THAT part of Brody had me swooning so hard!

That prologue hooked me. The things that Shiloh's Grandma told her had me anxious for the entire book.

Now...bring on the rest of the boys! I can't wait!

"When the Storm Breaks" is definitely different to anything i have read... A cowboy and a rock star??? Talk about opposites attract!
Brody's and Shiloh's lives could not be any more different! He lives in a ranch, has a son, takes care of his younger brother, and is not interested in intimate and meaningful relationships. She mostly lives in hotel rooms when going from city to city, has been in a years-long toxic relationship, and loves the adrenaline that comes from being on stage!
And yet, this is a story that also shows that underneath all that, their wants and needs were the same... The need to belong, to be wanted, to be a priority for the other person, to be free to show vulnerability, or to love without asking the other person to change!
Even though i really liked Brody in Lila's and Jude's story, it took me a while to warm up to him in this book. He was rude (and not in the angsty/alphahole way) when he first met Shiloh even though she was very polite and was trying to open up to him:

I was left with a few unanswered questions regarding some twists in the story, but overall, i did enjoy this book! I liked that Brody got his HEA because even from the first book you could tell that he would sacrifice himself for the people he loved, and he deserved to have that one person who would see him as the one and only! And Shiloh, too, had been through many challenges and deserved to have the calm after the storm!

Emery Rose is continuously breaking my heart with her emotional stories. This is no exception. I have been waiting not-so-patiently for Brody's story since being introduced to him in the first book. I wasn’t disappointed because I absolutely loved Brody and Shiloh's story.

A bashful rockstar and a broody cowboy shouldn't fit together. But from the moment they met, sparks and attraction were inevitable. And before you know it these flawed characters were perfect for each other. They have so much chemistry that can be felt as you're reading and the banter between them is terrific. There are so many unexpected twists and turns to their story. It just pops out of nowhere which makes their story all the more gripping.

I loved everything about Brody and Shiloh. What they have was so realistic and genuine. I highly recommend this one if you're looking for an emotional, full of passion, and beautiful story of two broken souls.

PURE ROMANCE!!!
Emery Rose has done it again with the second book in The Lost Stars Series. She blew me away! I loved everything about this book.

When the Storm breaks is just as amazing as it predessor! After reading, When the Stars Fall, I was floored with the world and characters she created. Brody was a stand out and I could not wait to get more of him. Emery made me fall just as hard for Brody & Shiloh, as I did for Jude & Lila! Make no mistake these are two very different books, but both have the same hometown feel. Along with the wonderful Macallister family!

The Cowboy and
The Rockstar....
Who would have thought??!!
Brody & Shiloh's world's could not be more different and they definitely should not have made sense, but through all their flaws and obstacles, they were perfection!

Brody, Brody, Brody!
He exceeded all my expectations. This sexy cowboy had a heart of gold! So much love inside him. Don't even get me started on what an incredible dad he is... Him and his son Noah had me all sorts of giddy.
Noah was so damn adorable!!
Aside from Brody's hidden charm, who knew this cowboy could be so romantic! His actions definitely backed up his words. He gave me butterflies, chills and goosebumps.
Geeezzz, there were so many tender moments throughout. In between those moments, there was soooo much heat. Brody & Shiloh were HOT! Phew!
Like smoking. Combustible.

Our rock goddess, Shiloh is nothing like you can ever image. Besides being gorgeous, she's humble and appreciative. Shiloh is just a girl from the Bayou living her dream. She down to earth, sassy and strong. She takes life as it comes and keeps going. Her determination and loyalty knows no bounds. I loveeeeed her!!

Before finishing her world tour, Shiloh had planned a six week secret personal trip away from the spotlight. She was in search of answers from her past. Never did she imagine meeting and falling for a cowboy! When she met Brody sparks flew. Their attraction was magnetic and their connection became so much more then they wanted to admit. They only had six weeks before thay had to say goodbye.... Goodbye would be easier said then done. They soon realized, love doesn't have rules or boundaries. It doesn't know it's not supposed to happen. I doesn't know it's the wrong place or wrong time.
It will find you!
Love found Brody and Shiloh and it knocked them on their asses!

“You’re my one true love. We were always destined to be together. Our paths were always meant to cross.”

The Macallister Family has become a favorite of mine. All the brothers are very different but equally intriguing. Jesse's book is up next and I can not wait to see what Emery has in store for us!

Layers and layers that create tears and emotions and feelings...it's what Emery Rose is the best at and as much as you want to despise her for it, I keep coming back for more. I totally love the angst and heartache and just overall happiness that I end up with by the end.

Brody is a character that has always felt broken. Never measuring up, never feeling wanted, and certainly never coming first in anyone's life. He connects better with his horses than he does with people so it's no wonder when Shiloh comes to stay on his farm he doesn't see much beyond her initial stay. Brody is far from an optimist, especially when it comes to relationships, but something about Shiloh and the brokenness he sees inside her calls to him like no one has before.

Shiloh may be a rockstar, but living in the spotlight isn't exactly conducive to making genuine friends. It doesn't help that the few people who actually know the real her have actually taken advantage of her, breaking down her spirit over and over again. She needs to get away before she starts her long tour and Brody's ranch is just the place to do it. She never expected to fall for the grumpy cowboy, but when it comes time to leave her rockstar life is even harder to return to than she expected.

These two people live on opposite sides of the same coin. Both have been broken down by people they loved, but they are now two people who live very different lives, one in the spotlight and another who lives in the wide open country. While they have been brought together by chance could they find a middle ground and make it work?

"Her voice was my favorite sound, and I didn’t think I’d ever tire of listening to it. It still reached deep inside and rattled my bones. Made my heart ache in a way I couldn’t explain. Nobody had ever touched me the way she had." - Brody

Over and over my heart broke for Brody. While I read the first book and know Jude and Lila’s story and where Brody’s friendship came out with them, my heart aches even more knowing where his feelings were during that whole timeline. Brody constantly feels he’s never good enough, no matter what he’s doing, or where he is, or who he’s with. The rare exception is being with his son or with Shiloh, which is a first considering who she is to the world, but with him she's just her.  So jumping into something more with a woman who could hurt him is risky and Brody is ...ugh...gonna break you.

While Shiloh has her ups and downs in life as well, it's Brody who truly captured my heart and broke it with Emery's depthful writing. She has this way of bringing out feelings of being totally drained and filled up all at once. When the Storm Breaks feels representative of those emotions inside me, along with everything representative in the book, so have a few tissues handy.

One of my top reads this year! I knew from page 1 that I wasn’t going to be able to put it down and I was right. Brody and Shiloh are absolutely some of my most favorite characters of all time. They have so much chemistry that you can feel it. The banter between them is fantastic and they both have a great sense of humor....I found myself chuckling a lot. Emery Rose outdid herself with this one...I’ll have a book hangover for days which doesn’t happen often—-for me that’s the sign of a great book!

Amazing!! Wow.
This was such an amazing, well written book.
I enjoyed the pacing, it gave us enough time to get to know the characters and it made me feel connected to them.
Emery Rose has become one of my favorite authors because her characters always come off as human and relatable. They are not perfect but they speak to me when I read the book and that's the most important thing.
Two completely opposite people, Brody and Shiloh come together in a complex way.
Two different lives. Some amazing chemistry.
I loved it.
If you are looking for an emotional read, then look no further.

Please note this can be read as a standalone however is book #2 of the Lost Stars series. I recommend reading it in order for more emotional impact.

Shiloh is a famous rockstar singer she always dreamed she wanted to be & she has the rockstar life that only dreams are made of. But due to a mistake made her past, she feels she has one more chapter to close. This brings her to a small town in Texas & staying in a small guest farmhouse on the land of Brody McCallister.

Brody is a typical farm man. His farm specialises in training horses including taking care of wild horses. He owns acres & his full heart is to his horses, with most people calling him the horse whisperer. He is moving on from his past & a single dad to a lovable 6 year old. He was instructed by his aunt Kate to pick up a "Viv" from California. He wasn't expecting to be hounded by paparazzi & come face to face with the famous Shiloh, the famous rockstar.

Brody & Shiloh have attraction to each other straight away. Shiloh straight away goes to calling him her cowboy, while Brody gives her the nickname "Shy". They slowly let each other in & over her 6x week stay, decide to become friends. This of course becomes so much more, with their lust connection stronger than ever. They decided to become friends with benefits for the remainder of her stay. But can they truly let each other go at the end of the 6 weeks?

Shiloh then needs to return to her world tour, leaving Brody feeling lost & confused. He is just a Texan cowboy, what could Shiloh see in him? However they when past secrets are revealed, they realise they have more in common then once thought.

I was obsessed with this story. Read it within 48 hours - Would have been quicker if I didn't have COVID brain! This story was both emotional and mysterious. I loved how well Emery intwined their life paths & made them truly realise they are meant to be.

5/5 stars with 3/5 steam.

I loved this! It's been a while since I read the first book in this series but I definitely loved this one so much more. I really enjoyed Shiloh & Brody's connection, especially in the first half of the book while they were in Texas. I wasn't a fan of the whole reason for the breakup, I didn't think it was fair on Brody. I also wish Noah was involved more in Brody's life. Aside from this, I really enjoyed reading this

Oh. My. Hotness batman. Shiloh and Brody are the epitome of an epic love story. Nothing comes easy in true love, and the path to finding that one person you'd do anything for. So incredibly true and the heart of their struggle. Both have troubled paths that lead them to put misplaced trust, and walls up that need hurdled before they can love others. A breathtaking tale of the underdog and finding true happiness. Beautiful. A favorite read this year!!!

“Never once had I looked into someone’s eyes and felt like I was looking at someone who would have the power to wreck me.”

When the Storm Breaks absolutely consumed me from the first page. The characters are layered and complex and full of so much pain. The story broke my heart in the absolute best way and while the angst was off the charts, there was a breathtakingly beautiful love story woven within. That’s my favorite type of book.

“Go and do what you were born to do. Set the world on fire. Make your sacrifices matter.”

Shiloh was so fierce and brave. She had not had an easy childhood, but that never stopped her determination to reach for the stars. Her belief in her music and true love was beautiful and her strength of character was inspiring. I absolutely loved her.

“Real men, good men, showed up and tried to fix what was broken. Real men carried your burdens along with their own, and I thought Brody’s shoulders were broad enough to carry the weight of the world.”

And Brody…he was even more broken than I remembered. He literally made my heart ache with all the pain and sorrow that was within his heart. Despite all of the bitterness and anger, he was such a good man and had so much love to give. He never minced words and always spoke his truth even if it was painful.

“We were two imperfect, flawed people who fit together perfectly and made each other’s worlds a better place.”

The cowboy and the rock star were an unlikely duo, but they fit so perfectly together. Their connection was magic and the intensity just leapt off the page. I loved watching them grow and figure out what was truly important to them. They truly made each other better and while they did not have an easy road, the fight to be together made them that much stronger.

This is only the second book that I’ve read by Emery Rose and it’s the second time that I was absolutely blown away by the captivating story that she wove. She has a way with words and with developing her characters that touches your soul.

“I wondered if he felt the same as I did. Like we’d found our way home."

What were the chances that a cowboy’s path would have crossed a rockstar’s on several occasions… One in a million.

Emery Rose sure knows how to deliver an emotional, full of passion and heartbreakingly beautiful love story.
I’ve been anxiously waiting for Brody’s story since I first met him in the first book, When The Stars Fall, and I couldn’t wait to learn more about him.

Shiloh is a feisty, strong and tenacious rockstar, living her dream after going through a difficult childhood and a complicated past relationship.

Brody,Brody,Brody!! I immediately fell head over heels in love with him. Reading about his past just broke my heart into a million pieces. This broody and sexy cowboy with a heart of gold and so much love to give. Who would have thought this grumpy cowboy could be so sweet, charming and romantic. Seriously, he had me swooning so many times. He’s also in incredible dad!

Shiloh and Brody were both flawed, imperfect and their worlds could not be any more different, but together they made perfect sense. They both went through so much but they had ridden out the storm, had come out to the other side of it and found HOME in each other’s arms.

I absolutely loved Shiloh and Brody’s story and I loved having glimpses of Jude and Lila’s life, I missed them!
The McCallister family has become one of my favourites and I cannot wait to read the next one in the series.

He is the one always there whenever anyone needs him
He will be the responsible one' the one trying to do the right thing
the one trying to deal with his past, life choices and make the best of the present
but he still needs to let go of the guilt' of things that were done and beyond his control
he needs to understand he is worthy of love.

She is a rock Cinderella – rising from a traumatic past and difficult life choices – can she let go of the music that was her savior for so long?
Can she let go of those that have interest different than her well-being?
“Sometimes I still couldn’t believe she’d chosen me. She could have had her pick of any guy she wanted. But still. She’d chosen me. Was I worthy of her love? Hell if I knew. But I’d fight for her and I’d do everything in my power not to fail her.”
I loved the way ER describes family – not a fixed traditional idea but rather a dynamic unit and that loving someone is making the best decisions for them
Didn't always agree with the character's choices and didn't feel their pain as much as was expected but it was a good read
