Don't Mind If "I Do"

Rate this book
It’s not every day the woman who broke your heart asks to be your wife.

Life is good. I’m single. I’m an emergency room doctor. And according to my hookups, I’m hot AF.

Then she walks back into my life.

I haven’t seen Mazzy Pembrooke since the night she betrayed me. So when she comes into my work asking me to make good on a childhood pact and marry her, I’m speechless.

She’s the last woman I’d want to marry—even if it’s pretend and with a definitive end date.

But after I find myself in a sticky situation at work, marrying Mazzy might just benefit me too.

Once we’re living as husband and wife under the same roof though, I struggle to remember that I hate this woman and the fake marriage doesn’t feel so fake anymore.

I tried to like it more. Don't Mind If "I Do" is just too messy. The plot is sloppy. Miss Ashton tried too hard to finish everything in hurry without building a real connection between the plot.

As result a sloppy mess. I can not feel any real connection. No chemistry. No vulnerable moment where the characters build their connection. The sex scenes are ridicilous.

Everybody and their mother are reading MZ latest book and I am over here suffering from 4 dnf books 😩 but this is the one that got me out of that slump!
This is a new author to me and the fact that it’s a second chance romance, enemies to lovers and marriage of convenience had me SOLD!

Mazzy, a high socialité in Boston, and Nick, an ER doctor, lost touch 10 years ago after some bad decisions. Then life puts them between a rock and a hard place. To solve their hardships Mazzy remembers the pact they made when they were kids, to get married once Nick is 35 years old...

It’s sweet and slow burn but I was hooked from beginning to end!
And it had one my fav scenes in books; Mazzy gets sick and Nick, like the good doctor he is, takes care of her and the feelings that were buried deep start to resurface 😍

I didn’t enjoy the fact that at the end, Nick decided to pull an ultimatum on Mazzy, but thankfully he regain his senses and realize he was on the wrong so I forgive him :)

There really is nothing better then reading a new to me author and falling in love with their writing.

Don't mind If "I do" is the best combination of best friends to lovers, enemies to lover/frenemies, second chance and fake start romance. It's like everything I love in one book.

Nick is this gorgeous doctor who's basically jumped in work by a giant boobed nurse, if you didn't think that was bad enough it gets a whole lot worse... the video of said jumping is cut to look more damaging to him and leaked to the media. It's safe to say shit hits the fan and his image looks more that a little rough around the edges and less professional. To make matters worse? His ex best friend shows up asking for a life changing favour.

I loved Nick. Did he piss me off? Absolutely... at one point I was refurring to him as Nick the giant dick but I loved him all the same. He's hurt from the past and it's definitely affected him more than he was willing to admit but under that grouchy grudge filled displeasure is the sweetest sexiest doctor I ever did read. I also loved that he was more than willing to admit when he was wrong and apologise. Ahh. He the kind of hero I can't get enough of... all dominant and growly with a sweet vulnerable core that had me melting.

Mazzy, sweet Mazzy. She finds herself in quite the predicament and has to reach out to the last person she wanted to for help. Girl ... I felt your pain in those moments. I loved her character.. despite coming from riches and all things elite she's really down to earth and genuinely super sweet. Her dedication to her family was heartwarming and the fact she was willing to go that far really showed her character. I love that even as sweet as she was there was only so much she'd put up with, the girl had grit and backbone. Her willingness to learn and her want to help honestly was a breath of fresh air. She was just so likeable. I loved her.

Despite coming from similar backgrounds and growing up together, they could not be any different all grown up. Even still that chemistry they had really was something special. They had some stuff they had to work through but I love that the author didn't drag it out unnecessarily. Their story progressed at the perfect pace completely consuming me in them and making me feel everything. Character development is spot on here.. both Mazzy and Nick had some growing to do and it wasn't easy but it was very believable and it felt right. I love that despite living in the land of luxury not everything was perfect and they had to work through things both independently and together to get their happy ending. It fitted them and their story.

This a sweet story filled with hope and second chances. I laughed, fumed, ranted and swooned through it. Honestly by the end my cheeks hurt from smiling so hard. It's feel good even though at times it's frustrating. Everything just felt right and their story flowed perfectly from one page to the next. It was easy to read and so enjoyable I'm sad it's finished. This is my first read from this author but I'll for sure be on stalk mission to see what else she has now because I'm a big fan.

AUDIO REVIEW
4.5 Stars for Don’t Mind If “I Do”
I first read this book a while ago so I was excited to see how Teddy Hamilton and Ava Erickson would bring the characters and their story it to life, well they did a fantastic job. You could feel every emotion through their voices as I was once again taken back to Dr Nick and Mazzy Pemrooke’s world.

This author is fairly new to me but with each book I pick up I still struggle to understand why she hasn’t crossed my radar long before now. I was excited for Don’t Mind If “I Do” and this book was everything I expected and more, it’s an entertaining read with wonderful characters.
Doctor Nick is a character we first met in Hit or Miss because he is Ollie’s best friend and I was so happy he was getting his own story because this is a man who is very different to the playboy image he portray’s, in fact he is the total opposite of his image, he is man hiding the hurt and he has a heart of gold.
Mazzy Pembrooke and Nick have a history, childhood friends and sweethearts before she walked out of his life but now she back asking him to make good on a childhood pack. The last thing Nick wants is to be married but when a situation at work forces him to clean his image up, this marriage seems a win win for both Nick and Mazzy but what happens when these two realise they still have feelings for each other......
I was captivated by this entertaining read, I laughed, I swooned and I found myself wishing and hoping this couple got the HEA they both deserved. This book ticked my boxes and I highly recommend you one click this gem of a read.

(audiobook) It was okay, but totally forgettable.

Mazzy and Nick were good characters. But I have mixed feelings about their relationship. Their teenage affection was cute, their college love could have been, until we learn that they both had been with other people between their moment together. What? How is this presented as true love? I seriously resented them after this revelation, and had trouble rooting for them.

Fake marriage coupled with second chance was a nice enough combination, but the story was conventional. The only original element, that was just brushed over, was Mazzy and Nick’s families situation as rich and powerful, and what it implied–marriages between rich families, dynasties, the power of money, the idleness and lack of purpose… but especially the lack of accountability. Of course, it was a romcom, so the story had to stay light, sweet and funny.

The funny was missing though. Not a great point for a romcom.

On the other hand, the sexy was there.

Narrators were their usual talented selves, but couldn’t manage to make the story more interesting. At least it was pleasant to listen to it.

Quickie

- Series: standalone
- Hashtags: #romcom #fake marriage #second chance #friends to lovers to enemies to lovers
- Triggers: cheating
- Main couple: Mazzy Pembrooke & Nick Ryan
- Hotness: 3/5
- Romance: 3/5
- + I loved the social commentary on the rich and powerful’s lack of accountability
- – I so not love the “we love each other but we can’t be together so let’s bang other people in the meantime”…

I am so loving the wonderful stories that Everly has in her head. This is Mazzy and Nick's tale and they are friends, enemies and now let's see ..man and wife.
Nick and Mazzy are childhood friends that end on bad terms. It is now years later and a promise as young adults is now brought back to the table by Mazzy.
Nick is loving his single life. He is dedicated and talented ER doctor that has the world at his fingertips. He also has his pick of all of the lovely ladies that he wants and even a few that he doesn't. When he finds himself in a bit of a situation Mazzy may have his answer. He appears to have it all but is it everything that he has always dreamed of?
Mazzy is a socialite and has devoted her life to volunteering and keeping her parents happy. We soon find out she is more than just a pretty face. Their is a change in the family dynamics when her grandfather passes away. He may have also changed the will before his passing and now Mazzy herself in quite a predicament and a solution pops into her head. She comes to Nick with an offer and it may just suit both of them and their futures. Is it possible that these fences can be mended and a future for them is on the horizon?
I just fell in love with this couples wonderful witty smart banter . They were sweet, funny, honest and had wonderful chemistry ! Such a great journey with Mazzy and Nick!

I loved this book, one of my favorites of 2021! This is a new author for me, and I will surely keep on reading her. I loved her straight-forward writing style, the snappy pace, and the way she develops her characters. This story was sweet and sassy with just the right amount of sexy times and emotional moments.

Mazzy Pembrooke is a rich socialite, but not the uppity kind. She lives off of a trust fund, and she’s dedicated to working for several charities and working to give attention to worthy causes. When she inherits the bulk of her grandfather’s estate, she’s even more shocked than her father. The catch is she has to be married for six months before collecting. Since she’s just out of a horrible and humiliating divorce, she’s in no hurry. Then suddenly her father asks for financial help for his company, and she can’t refuse.

Dr. Nick Ryan comes from the same wealthy Boston world where Mazzy lives. They were actually childhood friends and teenage sweethearts until one incident broke them up and now they’re enemies. Nick eventually broke away from that world and now works as an emergency doctor one town away from Boston. However, Nick’s reputation has taken a dive and the board of the hospital he works at wants to fire him.

When Mazzy first approaches him, recalling a deal they made when they were kids, he initially rejected her, but then he decided that a fake marriage with Mazzy would fix his reputation and help him keep his job.

“I have so much regret where Mazzy’s concerned. And while it’s been easy to blame her for everything all these years, I’m starting to wonder if maybe I was the problem the entire time.”

I loved Mazzy and Nick! We get to learn their past history with the flash backs the author uses. It serves to cement our wish for them to have a real marriage, but it takes time, a lot of apologies from Mazzy and Nick to remember that he had his part in their disagreement.

“What do you see when you look at me?” she asks. “Regret.” My answer slips out before I stop myself. Her honesty rubbed off on me.

I loved how their closeness developed, how Nick opened his heart again to Mazzy. I felt that Mazzy never stopped loving him, she just accepted her part in alienating him, and was trying to move on. This love story was so yummy, I loved everything about it, even their arguments and misunderstandings. There are scattered funny moments and it adds to the delightfulness. I especially loved that Nick is hooked to Grey’s Anatomy and loved Mazzy’s adventures, trying to find out what she’s passionate about. The dog walker incident was hysterical. Great fun reading this book!

"Don't Mind If 'I Do'" by Everly Ashton was a funny, sweet, and heartwarming second chance romance between ER doctor Nick Ryan and socialite Mazzy Pembrooke, whose fake relationship/marriage of convenience never truly felt fake to me. I adored their witty banter and the slow burn of their relationship development as they worked through the unresolved feelings from their past.

I didn't expect that I'd be able to relate to Mazzy all that much because of her privileged background and upbringing, but I ended up really liking her. She was a genuinely kind and caring person who tried to do good in the world, and I loved her efforts to find a more fulfilling role for herself. Nick also came from a privileged background but turned his back on that world when he became a doctor, which strained his already tenuous relationship with his family. Nick's reasons for doing so became clear as the story progressed and were entirely justified IMO, but the fact remained that he and Mazzy belonged to different worlds, which meant that there was a lot for them to figure out if they wanted to make their marriage work.

Overall, I loved "Don't Mind If 'I Do'" and highly recommend it for all fans of contemporary romance and romantic comedy. It was definitely my favorite Everly Ashton book so far. I look forward to whatever this author writes next.

OVERALL REVIEW & RATING: 3 STARS (but really 2.5)

PERFORMANCE REVIEW & RATING: 5 STARS
I’ve always enjoyed both Teddy Hamilton and Ava Erickson both as narrators which more than likely the reason I was able to forge thru and finish this audio …

STORY REVIEW & RATING: 2 STARS
Okay, I can’t say that this story was bad per say, but it’s also not exactly the best out there. The plot was weak and lacked serious fleshing out. The conflict between Nick and Mazzy should never have brought on the level of animosity that it did in the present. I still don’t quite understand how such a *thing* that they just dropped their friendship like it was nothing … I can wrap my head around it when they were ten years younger, having a falling out of some sorts, but TODAY? These are grown people … #twitchy

The plot point / circumstance that Nick found himself in with his boss is just … I mean, is that a thing that actually happens??? Lol

Mazzy’s circumstance with her father … ASK A QUESTION GIRL! Seriously, I have no idea how I’m supposed to even take her seriously.

I’m being entirely too negative right now so I’m going to stop but I should really note that I enjoyed this as an audio, but I can guarantee I would not have made it thru if I was reading it.

That’s it. Those are my 2 cents. Don’t spend them all at once ;)

Another new-to-me author! This was a funny book with plenty of chemistry and a lot of feeling.

Nick Ryan and Mazzy Pembrooke were once something to each other - and then they weren't. A decade after things fell apart, Mazzy is back to demand that Nick makes good on their marriage pact to help her out of a situation. A determined playboy, a tricky situation of his own at work has him agreeing to marry his ex-best friend/ex-love.

Oh, this was a great read! Nick was painfully holding on to his grudge against Mazzy, but there was no denying the sexy sizzle between them. This story was lighthearted and funny, gently tugged on my heartstrings, and had a few surprises along the way. Looking forward to reading more this author's works.

This is definitely my favourite out of the series. I absolutely loved and enjoyed Nick and Mazzy’s story. I’m a sucker for a second chance romance and enemies-to-lovers. Add on fake marriage and I am sold! There are some twists and turns which just added an additional layer to the story.

This book is a fun mixture of a second chance romance and friends to lovers. Even though the history between Mazzy and Nick isn’t ideal there’s no one else Mazzy can turn to to play her fake husband. After all, he did promise to marry her back when they were kids;)

I guess it was…okay? Much too adult for my liking, but the plot itself was actually decently interesting. Maybe my favorite read thus far for cc book club but the bar is LOW (sorry gals).

Don't Mind if I Do is a spin off of Everly Ashton's 3B apartment series, and focuses on Dr. Nick Ryan and socialite Mazzy Pembroke. I thought this was such a sweet second chance, although reading about their misunderstandings was lowkey frustrating. Like, just get together already, you guys lurve each other so much!! Start your lives, be happy!

From the first book Hit or Miss in the 3B series, you find out that Nick is the main male character's Ollie best friend and coworker. He has a player vibe going on, though he seems really good natured and not some stuck up douche. You find out that in this book, Nick comes from money, though his dream has always been to be a doctor, which caused some contention between him and his father, who really wanted him to go into the family business as a lawyer. Nick separates from his high society upbringing to devote himself to going to med school, but that also means detaching from his childhood best friend and crush Mazzy. They shared some sweet firsts, and Nick really proves to be a caring, thoughtful, and decent guy. Mazzy totally waited for him and would've done anything to make their relationship work, but Nick's ambitious goal of being a doctor really took over his life.

Mazzy easily could've been portrayed as someone vapid and self absorbed, rich and useless. But the author portrays Mazzy in such a likable way, that you can't help but want her to be happy. She's held onto a torch for Nick for so long, and she only wants to do what's right by her family. I really admire how calm she is even when Nick didn't want her back in his life, how she never retaliates at his angry barbs (cause she knows he's holding onto some tough feelings), and how kind she is. She doesn't downplay the importance of her charity work and bringing awareness to causes she cares for (would've like to learn more about this), especially because that's what she's good at.

This second chance romance takes you on a journey from Nick and Mazzy's young budding love, to their misunderstanding and falling out, to their journey to forgive themselves and each other for the mistakes they made. Mazzy and Nick were really likeable characters, and I loved how they came together at the perfect time in their lives where they could fully appreciate and enjoy each other.

I'm going to leave with this little gem: "never sweat the petty things and always pet the sweaty things." Haha.

Mmm, Too much build-up around simple trivial matters.

Mazzy Pembrooke and Nick Ryan knew each other from a young age, their families ran in the same social circles. Mazzy and Nick became friends and reached an "its complicated phase", they made a pact that if they were both unmarried till they were in their mid-thirties they would marry each other.

Nick went to medical school and Mazzy grew up in societal life, on the day when they were supposed to start their relationship as a real couple he was held back in the hospital. he felt like this wasn't the life she deserves and breaks everything off even before they began, Mazzy went out to an event with her friend and gets drunk she dances with Nick's brother Keith whom Nick resents. Nick came to his senses and realises it is not worth losing Mazzy . Nick walks in as Keith kisses Mazzy .

Mazzy tries to explain but after some words, they parted.

the book begins now when Mazzy is a divorced single socialite who inherited most of her grandfather's share in the business, she realises that their family is in trouble to help it she has to marry someone for six months to get the money from the will. Nick is a doctor now under scrutiny by the media after a video of him making out with a nurse in the stock room got out. He is asked to clean his image .

Mazzy reaches out to Nick to make good on the pact they made, after initial hesitation, he agreed as getting married to Mazzy would show him in a good light. They start to get to know each other after decades, they realise they still love each other and fall in love all over again.

I liked it, the falling for each other part felt easy compared to getting over their past.it was a funny, cute, engaging book, at first I wanted Mazzy to tell nick everything and clear the air but it was effective in the long run. Miscommunication showed its face here and there but they moved past it all. The epilogue was really cute, Mazzy now gives painting classes for senior citizens and She is pregnant with baby girl. They still go to her social events as she loves them and he loves her.

4.5 star Review Don’t Mind If “I Do” by Everly Ashton

AUDIO REVIEW:

Everly Ashton is a relatively new author to me and after reading Hit or Miss I couldn’t wait to dive in to Don’t Mind If “I Do”. This was an entertaining read that I really enjoyed; I love romantic comedies and second chance at love stories so for me this was a win/win.

We first met doctor, Nick in Hit or Miss as he is Ollie’s best friend and I fell for him in that book and this one only cemented how much I love him. Nick has a reputation as a bit of a player with a heart of gold but underneath lies the heart of a man who has been badly hurt.

Narrated by Teddy Hamilton and Ava Erickson who did a great job in bringing this entertaining story and characters to life. Their voices are easy to listen to and expressive. You could feel the emotions in their voices as they performed and they had me fully invested as I listened..

Nick is shocked when Mazzy Pembrooke walks back into his life with a request to make good on a childhood pact. The very last thing he wants is to get married and least of all to Mazzy however when a situation arises at work he decides it might be a way to solve his problems and soon finds himself married and living with Mazzy. The connection between them is just as intense as it used to be. For Nick and Mazzy their journey is full of self discovery and coming to terms with the past.

This was a story that held some twists and turns which added an additional layer to the story and held me captivated. It was also good to see some familiar faces make an appearance and there were some laugh out loud moments.

Audiobook kindly provided in exchange for my honest opinion.

This was such a good book!
I was so interested in this story after reading the blurb that I couldn’t stop listening once after I started.

Mazzy and Nick know each other for forever but for the last decade they haven’t utter a single word to each other so when Nick receives a call from Mazzy, the very first thing he says to her is, to never contact him again. But Mazzy being her stubborn self and in need for his help doesn’t listen to him and shows up at the hospital were he works requesting his help. Good thing, Nick also needs Mazzy’s help … right?

Don’t Mind if „I Do“ is a very funny but also sweet book and it is also filled with tropes, I don’t know were to begin with. It’s childhood friends – to enemies – to lovers, fake marriage/relationship, kind of roommates I think?
Mazzy and Nick were great characters and I really enjoyed reading their journey, working past their problems, being there for each other and finding one another again. Their story was so beautiful.

I’m also a huge fan of the narrators. Ever since I heard The Risk by Elle Kennedy, I’m a huge Teddy Hamilton, the male narrator, fan. He has a very calm and pleasant voice and it is very easy to listen to him and the same applies to the female narrator Ava Erickson.

“I do” love a second chance, fake relationship story (see what I did there)

Mazzie Pembroke needs a husband for six months to claim her inheritance. Recently divorced, she turns to the man she made a marriage pact with as a kid, her childhood best friend Nick St Clair. The problem is, they had a falling out and Nick now hates Mazzie. Fortunately for Mazzie, Nick happens to need her as much as she needs him.

I really liked Mazzie. She wasn’t your typical socialite. She genuinely cared about the people working for her father’s company and felt remorse for what happened with Nick. Nick was frustratingly stubborn at times but I could somewhat understand why he held on to his grudge for so long. Due to the enemies to lovers trope, this was a slow burn romance but the steamy scenes were worth the wait.

I really enjoyed the way this story unfolded through flashbacks rather than chronologically. It added an element of it rigid into the plot. This is my first Everly Ashton book and I really enjoyed her writing. This is a standalone but it features characters from one of her other books do now I need to check out Oliver and Jemma’s story.

I am loving this authors stories. Its funny sweet and has something that you wouldn't expect.
When I started Nick I wasn't a fan and I was a bit annoyed about the way he treated Mazzy.

When Mazzy Pembrooke went to her old friend to make good in their childhood promose to marry each other, she was expecting it to be a issue, but what she didn't know was that he needed her just as much as she needed him.

Both these characters have a past with each other. And before they can overcome their issues and become a couple they need to get a over their past hurts or will it be too much for them to move on😬

I enjoyed Nick and Mazzy's story and was a bit hesitant if Nick could overcome his anger towards Mazzy, but it was just a matter of time before they could resist their attraction for each other. Loved the story and loved the characters. I'm excited to see what other stories this author will come up with💖😊

Don't Mind If "I Do" by E. Ashton is a rom/com if I ever read one.
Nick Ryan,32, is an ER doctor, a flirt and he doesn't mind a little variety. Current events regard a reputation lift.
Mazzy is a divorced socialite and she needs a husband like yesterday.
Easy peasy, right? No, not at all. M and N share a past, grew up together, and N carries a grudge, whom he pampers till today.
But Mazzy wouldn't be herself when she didn't get what she wants/ needs.
A witty and fun, entertaining read, well written. A read cover to cover in one sitting book. 4 beautiful stars.

Don't Mind If I Do is my first Everly Ashton novel and its a great combination of second chance, enemies to lovers and fake relationship romance tropes and I enjoyed it. Filled with fun characters, witty dialogue and some unexpected twists, this story held my interest until the end. Mazzy and Nick were both totally different even though they came from the same background. They had a great connection and this story takes us on their journey from young love to to their falling out to present day. This was an entertaining tale and I would recommend it to romance lovers.

I loved listening to my first story by Everly Ashton. Nick is a hot AF doctor needing to clean up his image after his boss gives him an ultimatum. Mazzy has just inherited the family business but there’s a catch. Former lover's, Nick and Mazzy get a second chance, that is if Nick can stop hating Mazzy long enough for them to be cordial.

Teddy Hamilton and Ava Erickson bring all the heart, humor, angst, and passion to Nick and Mazzy.

Don't Mind If "I Do" was a light fun read with an adorable couple. Mazzy and Nick will make you laugh out loud. It's a childhood best friends to enemies to lovers story. You get great chemistry, witty banter and all the feels. A quick and enjoyable listen.

Teddy hamilton just brings Nicks personality to life he is the perfect person for this character. And Ava Erickson was a great Mazzy. These two always make audiobooks worth the listen.

First, it should be stated that this book is a spin-off from the Love in Apartment 3B series , you don’t necessarily need to read it, but Ollie and Jenna are heavily featured and the other characters make cameos. Also, they alluded to Ollie’s big secret and they never tell us so that was a little tbh.

Now onto this book, I have to say I honestly didn’t expect to unfold the way that it did and it the way it progress really wasn’t my cup of tea. Mazzy and Nick have a tumultuous history and currently don’t speak due to a BETRAYAL by Mazzy. We are not told exactly what the betrayal is but we are given some very distinct clues as to what she did and I was all ready to be mad at her because Nick was so deeply hurt, it changed who he was. Let just say Nick completely overreacted and concretely left out his part incident.

So this is basically a second chance romance, friends to lovers to enemies to fake romance to lovers type of book. Mazzy needs to marry Nick to save her family’s company and Nick needs to save his job (which tbh seemed illegal what they were doing to him). Nick is still angry about Mazzy’s betrayal and wasn’t going to do it until it benefited him as well.

Things progressed nicely and I liked how they found their connection again and built a new relationship and it did have some hiccups here and there. However, the reveal of the betrayal was a major part of what ruin the book for me. Nick and Mazzy decided to finally start a real relationship even though she was in college (or finishing not sure) and he was busy with his residency. Unfortunately, the first real date didn’t happened because Nick was stuck at work, no big deal to Mazzy, but apparently a huge deal to Nick. There is a big argument because Mazzy is willing to put in the work for the relationship, but Nick wasn’t sure it was possible. You see in Nick’s mind he believes Mazzy will wait for him until he is ready and Mazzy wasn’t down with that. Mazzy gets drunk and his brother, Keith, who he hates kisses Mazzy and he sees it. That is the big betrayal that Mazzy did, she was kissed by Keith when she was drunk and broken hearted because Nick didn’t want to be in a relationship with her yet.

The other part of the book that fell flat for me is the end, we get Nick and Mazzy finally coming together and boom book over and we get an epilogue. It was a blink and you missed it kind of ending, after everything they went through seeing them actually together would have been nice.

This was a cute romantic comedy novel with a little 🌶️ thrown in. I picked it because it had my favorite trope as part of the story - best friends to lovers. But this one was more of a best friends to lovers to enemies to lovers again with a little fake marriage thrown in for good measure.

One thing I liked about this story is the tie in to Hit Or Miss, which a read a couple weeks back. The MMC in this book was a side character in that one. And the two main characters from Hit or Miss were side characters in this one.

The story was fun and engaging with likeable characters. The pacing was excellent and the romance was fun and believable. I loved getting elements of the characters' backstories interspersed with present day events. It gave you a better understanding of the falling out that had occurred years prior for the two.

It did have my least favorite trope (miscommunication) thrown in towards the end, but it was resolved so quickly it could have easily been omitted because. Like a lot of miscommunications, this one seemed so minor yet was blown so out of proportion just to make it an element. It felt a little ridiculous.

Overall, it was an enjoyable, easy, fast-paced read.

Absolutely marvelous story

This was absolutely marvelous. It has all my favorite tropes. Past friends who become enemies with a second chance at love thru a fake marriage.
This is Nick's story. We met him in Hit or Miss (Love in apartment 3b book 1). This time around, his ex best friend from childhood, Mazzy, has returned and needs a favor (a fake marriage). He immediately declines the favor after talking to her. When his medical career is in jeopardy, he decides that the favor could be beneficial to both. They get married. Some people are happy, but many are shocked, and their high society families are upset.
Will they work thru their issues and stay married after the 6 month time frame that Mazzy needs to get her inheritance, or will it end?
It's a wonderfully written story with well thought out characters.

Actually rating 3.5 stars

The two things I hated about this book that caused taking 2 stars away are:

1. The vulgar language - I honestly do not understand the appeal to write about genital organs and swearing.
2. The reason why they break up the first time was sooo dumb 🙄

The good things were:

- the characters grew together and basically they belong to the trope : childhood friends to lovers

- this is also a second change romance and arranged marriage based on interests so there are a multitude of tropes that I like

- BUT the main reason I liked this story was that the guy is not a jackass, he actually cares for the heroine deeply and protects her so yeah this is why this romance book gets an 3.5 stars from me.

2-1/2

Not a terribly relatable story (rich people problems 🙄) but not a horrible one--except that I hope to NEVER see the word "rack" misused again. 😣

You WRACK your brain, you don't "rack" it! Whether education has really messed up in recent years or too many people are using speech wreck and not the messes, this seems to be a rampant failing lately.

And no, just because so many people are using the wrong homonym does not make it "correct" thanks to common usage. This popped up at least four times in this short book and it's probably all I'll remember. 😕
