Lucas

My dreams of making it to the big league had finally come true,
But one wild night in a strip club which was clearly a mistake
Landed me squarely on the team’s bad boy list.

The PR manager is supposed to smooth it all over,
Too bad all I wanted was to get in trouble with her.

I wasn’t really the playboy they thought I was,
I just needed to find the right woman to set me straight.
Now I just have to prove I’m not what she thought.

Carmen

I have the career I’ve always dreamed of,
Even if I have to deal with players who can’t seem to keep out of the news.
What’s more infuriating is the one player I want to hate the most I can’t stop thinking about.
The one whose voice makes me want to drop my panties at his feet.

I know all about his playboy ways,
But I also know the press can spin things to fit their narrative.

Is he really as innocent as he claims to be? Or will he throw a screw ball I never saw coming?

A hot baseball player, the woman who could ultimately make or break his career, a match made in heaven or the ultimate downfall? When I first started reading The Screwball, I was convinced that I was going to read a story about a womanizing, self-centered baseball player who got what he wanted when he wanted. Well, I was wrong. It was actually a story about a once-womanizing, self-centered baseball player who found out that sometimes you have to work for what you want. And, with a little hard work and honesty, good things may come your way. I sincerely started off rolling my eyes at Lucas. Then he earned my respect. He turned out to be a hard-working, interesting man. He was on a mission and knew what he had to do. Surprisingly, it wasn’t an act. He was genuine. Yes, he knew what he wanted and he went after it … the right way. I admired his perseverance and his style. He didn’t push, he earned the trust of Carmen and he didn’t take advantage of anything that she offered. Carmen was determined to not like Lucas. She figured he would be her new problem child. Then she got to know him and unexpectedly was impressed. Impressed enough to give him the time of day … on her terms. She couldn’t be happier or more surprised that he agreed to her terms and was willing to play ball on her field. Don’t get me wrong, there were a few bumps in the road but nothing major. I enjoyed reading a story with little to no drama. I always prepare myself for the worst and love it when I am pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed the back-story and the family that surrounded Lucas and Carmen. They were a nice addition and added another layer to the characters. The only downfall for me was how quick everything happened. Carmen went from cold to hot in a hot minute. But, it worked out the way it should have. Samantha Linde gave us a nice love story with a little bit of baseball (tis the season) and a lot of love. A good summer read!--

Lucas has been a bad boy and in comes Carmen to help straighten him out. They are smoking hot together and I loved seeing them go from trying to fight their attraction, to casual, to more. I love that there is low angst and the story just flows so well that it was hard to put down.

4 Star Review The Screw Ball (Indianapolis Lightning #3) by Samantha Lind

I have read a few books by Samantha Lind and have enjoyed them all . The Screw Ball is Lucas and Carmen’s story. It was entertaining and left me with a smile on my face; it is a heartwarming story of love and romance.
Lucas is finally getting to where he wanted to be professionally but all it takes is one night to put it in jeopardy. Carmen is the teams PR person and she is not impressed with either Lucas or his behaviour. However there is more to Lucas than the playboy persona he shows the world.
The chemistry that sizzles between them makes it impossible to ignore. However Carmen has a rule, that she doesn't date the players so Lucas has his work cut out for him. Can he convince Carmen to give them a chance?

4 Red Stars!

Being new to this series as well as new to Ms.Lind’s work I could not contain my excitement for The Screw Ball! Once I started it I ended up finishing it in one sitting as I got pulled into the Indianapolis Lightning world! I really enjoyed this story!

Lucas and Carmen’s journey knocked it out of the ballpark! I loved how these two were brought into each other’s lives and how they got under each other’s skin. It wasn’t easy and I enjoyed the realness of the complicated.

The heat between them had me blushing all kinds of red. There were also many moments that brought the biggest smile to my face and joy to my heart. Their story showed what it means to dig deeper and take chances.

I also really adored what the other characters brought to this story as well!

With The Screw Ball, Ms.Lind has created such an awesome read filled with heart and heat! She’s definitely got a new fan in me! I am so pumped for the next Indianapolis Lightning book, The Change Up! I can’t wait to go read the first two books in this series and jump into the Indianapolis Eagles series as well! 💙

Lucas is a highly paid professional baseball player but is also known to be a player when it comes to the ladies. Carmen is the team’s PR lady, and she is always having to cleanup Lucas’ messes, she sees him as a pain in her rear and wants nothing to do with him except for him to take his life seriously. These two don’t always see eye to eye Lucas is having fun and Carmen wants him to get his act together, but a scare seems to straighten him out and then is out to prove himself to Carmen. Their chemistry and attraction become hard to fight but can they make things work or are they too different? And if they did act on these feelings, could it be more or just a fling? I loved Lucas he was such a good guy when we get to see the heart of him, and Carmen’s take no prisoner attitude was fun to read.

What I loved most about this book is it was just an overall sweet romance. There wasn’t any drama or huge upheaval near the end, it was just a sweet, really enjoyable relaxing quick read.

I loved the sports aspect of this book & how they were both involved in the sports world. These two had so much chemistry you could almost feel it pouring off the pages. This book had everything I love & enjoy about a sports romance.

Looking forward to future books in this series!

I loved this story just like the previous ones. I don't know if I'm reading it too fast or it is a fast-paced story, but I finished it in just one sitting. Lucas and Carmen's story is just easy to read and their chemistry was off the charts, which made it all the more enjoyable to read. Lucas definitely redeems himself big time. I loved seeing him really change, pursue Carmen seriously and treated her amazingly. Looking forward to the next book!

Lucas is a PR nightmare he us known as the teams bad boy. Carmen is the teams PR manager and she's tired of his crap but not as much as the team owner. When Lucas comes up with a crazy idea can he convince Carmen he can change and she's good for him. In the end we get to see just how good Lucas is and it was sweet!

Fans of sports-fueled romances will find much to like about this third installment in the Indianapolis Lightning series. From its witty banter, to the crackling connection between the two lead characters, this is a book that put a smile on my face and a blush to my cheeks as two very different people start a secret relationship that soon turns from casual to something more.

As the newest addition to the Indianapolis Lightning baseball team, Lucas Black has made a big impression on his teammates and coaches...but after a recent night at a strip club, he'll need help cleaning up the media's views of his playboy ways too. That help comes from the sexy and sassy Carmen, head of PR for the team, and the one woman to capture his attention. When readers first meet Lucas they see the proverbial star athlete with an enlarged ego to go with his talent. He loves the adoration of the female fans and embraces all the fun and perks that come with that. While I wasn't drawn to Lucas early on, being around Carmen brings out a different side to him, a side that charmed me and made him much more likable. His interactions with Carmen went from fun and flirty, to steamy, to showing surprising depth through heartfelt talks. Being around Carmen matured him and showed him what's most important in his life, it made him a better man all around.

Carmen's a strong-willed heroine from the start, one who's focused on career with a great set of friends and family. Life's going good for her...if only the new baseball rookie would stop making a spectacle of himself. When it comes to Lucas she just wants to do her job and move on, but the combustible connection between them clearly becomes too hot to ignore. Mixing business with pleasure may be frowned upon but it's not long before these two are setting my tablet on fire in a forbidden relationship full of sweet and sexy interactions. Carmen was an appealing heroine from the start and having Lucas beside her rooting her on only made her stronger. Being together actually made both of them stronger, made them a formidable pairing that I loved seeing evolve.

Fans of sports-fueled romances will find this a familiar storyline, one that's virtually angst-free. Familiar doesn't make it any less enjoyable though courtesy of a likable main couple and a connection that sizzled. It was a sweet and sexy story with a good flow and a cast of secondary characters who rounded out the story nicely. Though this is part of a series it stands strongly on its own in a journey teeming with flirtations and the power of love.

Carmen is the PR point person for the professional baseball team, The Indianapolis Lightening and one player in particular is making her job really difficult. Lucas Black. A total thorn in her side. I mean a very hot thorn, but still. And a shameless flirt to boot. Lucas on the other hand cannot get Carmen out of his head. Carmen is a successful young woman living her best life. She has a great job, great friends, and is content. Lucas’ playboy ways get him into a little bit of trouble and of course he is in need of some PR help. After a very hot and steamy night, Really hot steamy night is HOT. Carmen and Lucas didn’t ignore the spark and the fact they actually enjoyed being together. So they agree... a causal relationship….sort of on the down low for a few months.

I will say at first I was not sure how much I was going to like Lucas. He came off a little immature and arrogant. But the more we found out who he was the more I grew to adore him. He definitely is the guy that thrives in a relationship. The same goes for Carmen, while she is independent and strong on her own having a person standing behind her cheering her on only makes her stronger. I really did love watching them grow individually and as a couple. One of the things that I appreciate most about Samantha’s books is the low angst….but it is not missing a story line. At all. Her characters and their story seems real, not forced almost like this could be your best friend getting her HEA. After reading so many books with the same story arc, it is always refreshing for me to read one of hers.

I have read all of the books in the Lightening series, and I think it is best to read them in order…that being said this could totally be read as a stand alone. But then you’d miss Derek and JJ’s stories! If you are a sports romance fan or a fan of a great couple getting their HEA, then this is the book for you! Another home run for Samantha!

I love the Indianapolis Lightning series by Samantha Lind and and this is the third story in this series. I found it hot, romantic and fun. It features a romance at work between a VERY bad boy and his publicist who very much a very good girl. Can Carmen tame Lucas well you will have to read this story to find out.

Some books have bad boys but Lucas is absolutely awful, He goes to strip clubs, has sex with strippers and he treats them very well but he throws money at them a lot.

And Carmen has the job of trying to get him to take his life and job seriously and be a respectable member of his new team. To be honest I was not a fan of him at the start at the story.

But something changes with him and he really turns his life around as he starts to see how wonderful Carmen is. As he starts to fall for her, I started to love him and I adored him and Carmen together.

If you love reformed bad boy stories or love stories where they start out hating each other and romance at work stories, then you will adore this story about Carmen and Lucas.

I received a free ARC copy of this book from the author prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.

If you are a lover of sports romances then the screwball book # 3 in the Indianapolis Lightning series , it’s just what your looking for . I could not put it down from the very first chapter. It’s full of witty banter , to off the charts chemistry between the two main characters and lots of steamy yet emotional moments as well . Sports romances are one of my very favorite Tropes and Samantha is one Of my favorite authors so this was a plus all around for me . I’ve read almost all of her books , she delivers a fantastic read every single time . I loved Carmen and Lucas’s so much . The trope is also a bit of a romance at work , it’s romantic it’s fun and very very addicting.Lucas is a very bad boy and well Carmen is his publicist but more of a good girl ( can Carmen bring out the better side of Lucas ? They are like oil and water at first , Carmen definitely dislikes Lucas , but throughout the story their feelings change as the relationship develops . I loved the push and pull between these two . I found myself reading well into the early hours of the morning ( I absolutely had to finish. I thoroughly enjoyed every single minute of this awesome Book

Samantha really turned up the heat in this one. Bring a fan and the A.C. You’re going to need it.
This author continues to amp up her writing in delicious ways, yet she keeps the story sweet and relatable.
We’ve all heard the stories of athletes and their ability to draw the female followers. Well in Lucas’s case he doesn’t disappoint in this arena. However, he also has the image of the bad boy and the press laps that up. Enter Carmen, the woman who has to clean up all his messes. She’s getting tired of doing all his dirty work.
However, just like everything in life things aren’t always as they seem. There’s always more to everyone’s stories. Watching the rest of the story unfold and evolve is where we really learn to fall in love with Lucas and Carmen.
This is a sweet story that will make you smile and pull at your emotions. We are even entertained by seeing some of our favorite characters from past books.
This is a quick read. I read it in one sitting. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series. Keep them coming Samantha and I’ll keep reading.

4.5 Stars for The Screw Ball ( Indianapolis Lightning #3)
This is Lucas and Carmen’s story and I’m sure like me it will leave you smiling like a Cheshire Cat, it’s entertaining, well written with adorable characters.
Lucas has finally found himself where he wants to be with his career but one night could ruin everything he has worked for. Carmen is the teams PR person and it’s her job to salvage what she can, it doesn’t help matters that she only sees Lucas as the team playboy so what’s it going to take to make her change her mind....
Lucas has so much more going for him and the playboy image he shows the world is just a front, deep down he is just a man looking for love so is Carmen the woman for him or will her rule of not dating players end this relationship before it even begins. This is a heartfelt story about love and trust, the characters share some sizzling chemistry as well as some witty banter, it’s a great addition to the series and if you are looking for an entertaining read that will make you smile, look no further than The Screw Ball, it’s a gem of a read.

Samantha Lind knows how to put all the elements together to produce great must-read sports romance series, it doesn't matter if it is on the ice or on the field, Ms.Lind always delivers, and she has done it again with the Indianapolis Lightning team. I am so invested with each of the couples that I never want to see the stories come to an end. Nevermore so than with Carmen and Lucas. I love the cocky players that get taken down a peg or two by their leading ladies, and as PR Manager for the Lightning, Team Carmen will take no nonsense from the players.

Rocky Lucas is a great player both on and off the pitch, and when he gets himself into trouble it is Carmen that has to sort it out, it doesn't help that Carmen is attracted to the baseball player, but she doesn't date people she works with and she definitely steers clear of men like Lucas, but try telling her lady parts that! Baseball is Lucas's life, so what if he has some fun of the pitch, but now the fun is seeing how he can turn Carmen's face 'red' with embarrassment and at the same time get her to see below the surface. This game of cat and mouse is better than any night at a club!

The Screw Ball is the third book in the Indianapolis Lightening series by Samantha Lind but can be read as a standalone (as I did).

Lucas Black has been called up for his rookie year to the Indianapolis Lightening and he's loving his newfound fame. He's never had a problem catching the ladies before but now they make it even easier.

Carmen is the long-suffering PR director for the team and is sick of being responsible for cleaning up the rookie's messes. She's repulsed by his immature man-whorish behavior but when she gets to know him, she realizes there's more to him than what makes the tabloids.

I enjoyed this story and it was a quick read. Aside from the first few chapters of the book (while we're getting to know Lucas) there's no real drama or angst to the story and once Lucas stops his antics, the story turns sweet. They're sweet, funny and sexy together. The Screw Ball could be categorized as a sweet beach read, just in time for summer!

This is book three in the Indianapolis Lighting series and while each can be read as a standalone, you get two see all the alpha men in their tight pants hit a home run when it comes to the girls knocking them flat on their behind.Lucas Black is trouble or is he? He is a playboy and lands himself on the PR poop list (haha). Carmen is good at her job, independent and takes no crap from the boys on this team. She means business when it comes to the team image. Lucas may seem like a bad boy, but he lets out those little sides of being soft. Problem is are they real or just for show?Carmen and Lucas have an intense chemistry, but she has a rule for not dating the team players. Lucas also has the title, The ScrewBall. Love how they interact together in this story, how we get to see past characters and for those who have not read the series they get enough background to enjoy the secondary characters. If you love sports stories, strong women and alpha goofy men this story is for you. I look forward to more books in all her series by this author.

"A great addition to the Indianapolis Lightning series - each one can definitely be read as a standalone so if this is your first book you won't be lost at all. Just make sure you go back & read the previous two as you won't be disappointed.
Lucas totally stole my heart in this book. Who doesn't love a bad boy? And he has to be the naughtiest I have read in quite some time. But there is something about him that allows him to get away with it all - until one too many times which leads to Carmen stepping in to try and save his image and of course the Lightning's. This ended up by being such a great read and it was too hard & times to put the book down so I was forced to sneak in a few cheeky reads at work!!

Hot..Hot..Hot!! Man these 2 had me cheering them on and laughing out loud often throughout this book. Lucas just didn't know when to stop and Carmen didn't put up with much. Even though Carmen thinks Lucas is a "badboy" he really isn't and I loved that about him. Such a good story. ~Jen

Overall Lucas was a brat who needed someone to say no and put him in his place and that’s exactly what Carman did. Carman just wants to focus on her career and make sure she keeps all the other guys on the team in check when Lucas joins the team and lands himself in hot water right away and Carman has to pull him out and keep an eye on him to make sure he doesn't do anything else dumb but his flirtatious personality keeps getting in the way.

This enemies situation is full of banter and snark, but there is also the problem of physical chemistry which makes this book so much fun.

At least that's how it seems in the beginning. As far as first impressions go Lucas certainly doesn't do much to have anyone think better of him, at least anyone who doesn't personally know him.
And Carmen she doesn't really know him at least not yet. But things change and we get to see more then just the player. We get to see a Brother and an Uncle, a friend and just someone who genuinely cares.
So join in grab a book see if Lucas plays well enough to win the girl!

The Screw Ball!

The Screw Ball by Samantha Lind is the third book in the Indianapolis Lightning series. When Lucas joins the team, he seems to think he’s everyone’s dream guy! Carmen needs to corral Lucas and his attitude for the good of the team, as well as keep the other players in control. Carmen really isn’t thrilled with Lucas and now she has to babysit the Lightning’s newest player! Ugh!

It takes Lucas being willing to share more of his true self for Carmen (and me) to thaw toward him. Then their chemistry gets in their way! I was not too thrilled with Lucas’ attitude initially and then by Carmen thawing so quickly. In theory, it just takes the right person to make a match, but I believe the story could use a bit more of the snark, banter, and push/pull before jumping into togetherness. I also don’t really see these two surviving long term even though that’s how it resolves.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

The Screw Ball is the third book in the Indianapolis Lightning series but was fine as a stand-alone. It was fast paced and started out with a sparking connection between the two main characters. It was a hate/love relationship from the beginning. Lucas had finally made it and was new to the MLB. His problem was he could not keep from landing in the media. They portrayed him as a playboy and Carmen the PR manager had to spend her time cleaning up his image after each episode. Carmen loved her career with the team, but Lucas infuriated her with his playboy attitude and tendency to land in trouble all the time.
At first, I did not like Lucas because he came off as a jerk, but he slowly makes up for it once he finally realizes Carmen is the woman for him. Their witty banter and the chemistry between the two make this a funny and hot sport’s romance.
I received an ARC and am willingly leaving a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

WOW! The cover of The Screw Ball is seriously sexy isn't it (just had to get that out of my system before moving on to the actual story)?! Lucas is finally made it to the show, but like a lot of young guys, he made a mistake that played out across the press which puts him on the naughty list so now he has to deal with Carmen, the team's PR rep who isn't impressed. They have a mutual attraction to each other, but she has a hard & fast rule of no dating the players even if Lucas makes her want to give in. However, as she learns that there's more to him than the press would state, things only get more complicated so the push & pull is quite intense as I found myself screaming to just give in. This is a delightful story with the backdrop of baseball that  y'all need to experience for yourselves! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Lucas is taking advantage of the perks of being a professional baseball player in his rookie year both on and off the field. When his extracurricular activities threaten his career Carmen is tasked with turning his reputation around and he is about to find out that he wasn’t looking for a woman but the woman and now he just needs to convince her.

Carmen is very familiar with baseball players and their partying ways and wants nothing to do with it. He may be his charm and sex appeal that draws most woman to him but that is only part of who he is. As she gets to know the man and not the myth feelings develop but will it be enough to let him into her life?

I really enjoyed seeing Lucas develop into the man he was destined to be, and Carmen’s sassy personality is exactly what he needs in his life.

This has to be the best book in this series so far! Talk about a hot, steamy couple and a great story to go with them, you've got it all here! 5 baseball stars for this one!

We meet Lucas, just called up from the minors, he's a PR persons nightmare with his nightly antics and his cocky persona. When he meet's Carmen, who's in charge of the teams PR, she definitely isn't impressed with his after hours play, and let's him know about it! When these two are together, the sparks and chemistry they have will have you begging them to get together, but she's got a rule, she will not get involved with a player. Can Lucas convince her to take a chance on him?

I could not put this book down, these two won my heart, and I needed a cold shower after finishing it! haha grab this one asap!

The Screw Ball is book 3 in ‘The Indianapolis Lightening’ series, a Baseball story that shows more than their batting average.

Lucas is cocky, he has been called up to the major leagues and he is enjoying himself even if that means getting his photo taken or being the headline story on TMZ. Carmen loves her job except when she has to deal with the likes of Lucas; the problem is her heart wants what it wants!
Lucas has a chance to prove he is more than the playboy he is portrayed as, he just needs to get Carmen to give him a real shot.

I personally enjoyed this story, I have been reading the series since the beginning and I can’t wait to read book 4, The Change Up next year.

Absolutely loved this book!!! A great addition to the Lightning series that shows us the story of Lucas - the rookie that just got called up. He is the type that does what he wants with no thought to the consequences. What he doesn’t realize is that he just needs to find the right woman. Enter in Carmen - the PR person for the Indianapolis Lightning. She doesn’t like him but he is determined to change her mind. He puts in the work and changes her mind and leads them to their happily ever after!

Loved seeing the cameos from the other players and the continuation of the series. Samantha does a great job with the characters and the storyline that pulls you in and doesn’t let you go! Cannot wait to see if there is more coming!!

I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, secrets, and heartbreak.

If you have not read the below, I would recommend reading those books(s) first
The Perfect Pitch (Indianapolis Lightning #1)
The Curve Ball (Indianapolis Lightning #2)

This is Carmen and Lucas’s story. One mistake and everyone thinks the worst. Carmen is supposed to help him clean up his act. But hearing he’s a playboy can she trust that he really is not. The press spins things all the time and she find out the trust? Can she trust her heart to him? He wants her and is willing to prove to her he is not a player. Can they figure out a relationship or was it all a show?

I felt I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read.

I recommend this book.

Lucas is the playboy/bad boy of the Lightning but is he really? Yes they paparazzi get pictures of him out and about but he isn't really doing anything wrong. Carmen is the PR manager for the team and is really tired of having to clean up after Lucas gets caught doing this and that. But she does have a soft spot for him to and when he promises her he will do better he means it.. Lucas really wants Carmen to see him for who he is and give him a real chance, there is something about this woman that he knows will make all the difference in his world. But more things happen and Carmen actually stands by his side and now he wants more.

CAn these two make this work?
