Southern Secrets

Rate this book
Some secrets have a way of coming back and haunting us, no matter how much we try to bury them.
Amelia Never make the same mistake twice is my motto. After being left in the dust of an old pickup truck, I promised that I would take care of myself and never trust another man with a sexy smirk and cowboy boots. Then he showed up, and he's everywhere I turn. He's at the barn, he's at the bar, and now, he's my roommate. He makes me want things I shouldn't
Asher I grew up in foster care, and on my eighteenth birthday, I was set free. I spent years coasting from town to town. Staying wasn't a part of my plan and neither was love, especially with someone off limits. This was all supposed to be temporary. I'm just hoping my secret doesn't destroy the only family I've ever known.
Buried secrets are never buried for long.

Ok so there were some pretty serious series spoilers in this book. And having been warned about them before I started the book (e.g. don't say anything about the spoilers or risk death) I was very excited to get into it. Because this series has been a massive rollercoaster of secrets and danger and betrayal, and I've loved it.

Having them all so intertwined and involved in each other's stories means I'm equally as invested in most of the secondary characters as I am with the mains. And getting to see life continue with kids and dogs and such for previous couples is great. So when we get the next book I already feel like I know at least half of the couple.

Asher and Amelia were off the charts with their chemistry. But Amelia tried hard to fight it. One of the things I love most about this series is that the hero is so masculine and protective, yet they always find themselves unworthy of the ladies. And then we have these beautiful women falling in love with these guys and showing them how awesome they are.

Obviously, I enjoyed it. The series is great, and I love the writing style. Every time I finish one I can't wait for the next one. And this times no different. Toodles

This was a really good book in this series! Natasha really is one of my favorite authors now. I love how this book intertwines with the other books in the series….just when you think someone has gone away in an early book they resurface with a serious twist.

Asher is a great character. He’s shy, hard-working and a real gentleman. He has a hard time accepting help and/or gifts even though the Barnes family has welcomed him into their lives not just as an employee but as part of the family.

Amelia is attracted to Asher, but between him keeping to himself mostly and her past experiences with men she isn’t willing to act upon anything. She is extremely independent and likes to do everything on her own. She works at the farm & bought her aunt’s bar and runs it.

This book was exciting , suspenseful and sexy. This one had a twist I didn’t see coming. I was a little worried that this book was going to be too similar to others in the series but there was just enough mystery to set it apart.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Secrets no matter how well hidden always come to light. A truth that Asher, the hero of this installment will learn. Read my thoughts and learn why this series has become a favourite of mine.

Southern Secrets by Natasha Madison is the seventh book in the Southern series. It continues the story of the next generation of characters. This installment gives us Amelia's story, daughter of Jacob and Kallia whom we met in Southern Chance.

Amelia was a likeable character and one to whom I could relate.  Three words to describe her would be determined, hardworking and independent.  Single, hardworking and determined to prove she can succeed without help from anyone.   She also had no room in her life for love.  The reader soon learns the reasons she feels the need to rely on no one and why she refuses to surrender her heart to love.

Asher arrived in town six months ago. Since his arrival Amelia and her family embraced him and treated him as one of their own.  Asher grew up in foster care, and his experiences  were heartbreaking. He has been on his own from the age of sixteen. Never knew love until he came to work for Amelia's family.  Hardworking, humble, reliable and loyal, with these traits its easy to see why everyone embraced him and treated him like family.

The chemistry between Asher and Amelia sizzled. They  tried  fighting their feelings but they realised they were losing the battle. Circumstances placed them in a position where they could no longer deny the heat that burned between them. Their romance developed nicely but would be threatened by secrets from the past.

I wondered about Asher's  secret. Several theories came to mind but none came close to the truth.  The secret brought a slice of suspense to story and its revelation led to some heartbreaking moments.

As always I enjoyed hanging out with characters from the previous books. I had a great time coming back to this small town in the South where secrets never stay  hidden.

Conclusion/Recommendation

This was another enjoyable story in the Southern series.  I look forward  the next story in what has become one of my favourite series. This review was originally posted on Totally Addicted to Reading

Southern Secrets is the 7th book in the Southern series by Natasha Madison. This is Amelia and Asher’s story. Oh wow! These two are thrown together after tragedy takes place and it seems it's one bad thing after another happening. Yet they feel the chemistry between them take place ... sooner or later, Asher’s going to pounce on Amelia , that's how intense the chemistry between them is. While that's happening, there's this secret, it's tied to Asher. What is it about ? Can his secret be tied to his past and/or Amelia? This book has alot of mystery, suspense, intrigue, passion, angst, secrets, twists, chemistry, heat, feels, secrets, romance and a great ending.

The latest book in the Southern series continues the stories of the second generation of Southern characters, and this is Amelia’s book – a sweet and emotional small-town romance with a touch of drama and suspense, and a gorgeous love story.

Amelia is the daughter of Jacob and Kallie (from book #1 in the series, Southern Chance), and she is a strong, stubborn and determined young woman who refuses to repeat the mistakes from her past – especially where love is concerned. She is single and working hard to create a good life for herself, with no intention of letting a man in to mess with her plans.

Asher is new to town. He had a heartbreaking childhood in the foster care system, and has lived a mostly solitary, unsettled life, drifting from town to town. Now he’s found himself working on a small-town ranch, and he has been welcomed with open arms right into the middle of a huge big family group. For the first time in his life, he has found acceptance and contentment in his new home, but he’s still only planning on a temporary stay.

There’s clearly something between Asher and Amelia. There is an attraction there, but it’s something that neither of them have even thought of acting on. But when Asher is suddenly left homeless, he ends up moving in with Amelia, kicking their chemistry up a notch and setting the scene for the emotional ride to come.

I really enjoyed the dynamic between these two. You’ve got shy and quiet Asher who feels undeserving of the love and acceptance he has received from Amelia’s family, and he definitely feels unworthy of her. And then you’ve got Amelia who doesn’t want to let a man into her life. But despite all of that, they are wildly attracted to each other, and the sexual tension is insane!

“No matter how much I tell myself to get my shit and leave.” He steps one step closer to me. “There is always something that stops me from leaving … And that someone, Amelia…” His finger trails my cheek. “Is you.”

There is some back and forth as they work through their feelings, but the pull between them is too strong to resist, and they are eventually swept up into an intense and passionate romance that consumes them both.

“I want to worship you,” I finally say, my voice trembling. “I want to worship every part of you.”
I look into her eyes as she takes the step to close the distance between us. Two words is all it takes for me to finally snap.
“I’m yours.”

Holy hot damn, these two are sizzling together! It turns out that when you get shy and quiet Asher naked, he turns into a filthy talking sex god with all the moves! And Amelia is right there with him with the mad lust and dirty talk. Their passion for each other is intense, and reflects the deepening connection between them, and their romance progresses beautifully.

“I fell in love, and I didn’t even know it was happening until it did.”

There is some drama as they both work to overcome the issues from the past. They deal with it together, and there are some beautifully tender moments between them. And when it becomes clear that one, or both, of them is the target of a dangerous threat, Asher proves that he is just as alpha and protective as the rest of the men in the family, and that is lots of fun to see. It also brings in the suspense storyline, which had me madly theorising. And as we have previously seen in this series - secrets don’t stay buried, and this one is a gamechanger. I saw it coming, but the reveal still made my heart race. I was fully invested and I love the direction that it took the story. The feels are intense, and though I thought there was a bit of an overreaction to it all from certain characters, watching it all play out was fantastic.

As with the previous books in the series, there is a whole lot of character crossover, which I loved! It’s great being able to catch up with this huge group of family and friends, and to see where they are all at. It’s such a big group now, and there are fantastic dynamics between them. Though this is technically a standalone story, I wouldn’t recommend reading it without having read the earlier books, as there’s a lot of different characters to piece together, and a lot of history that’s gone down, and you may get a bit lost without it.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved being back in this world, Asher and Amelia’s story is a great addition to the series, and I love their story.

4 stars.

Wow! I am still reeling from the events that unfold in Southern Secrets! This is book #7 in Natasha Madison's Southern series and is Amelia and Asher's story. Right from chapter one I was completely captitvated by this story! I easily fell for the characters and everything going on in their lives. With every chapter I needed more as the secrets and suspense unfolded.

Asher is new to town. He has been working on Amelia's families ranch for the past six months, and has been warmly welcomed into the family. He grew up in the foster care system and never knew what it was like to be accepted and loved by a family like Amelia's. Although his childhood is heartbreaking Asher is truly a wonderful man. Sweet, kind, caring, hardworking, reliable and protective.

Amelia is the daughter of Jacob and Kallie, who we met in Southern Chance. She is a strong beautiful, hardworking and independant woman. She was deceived in a past relationship and wasn't very trusting of men and therefore was hesitant on finding love again.

I loved Asher and Amelia together immediately. Their flirty banter, and chemistry was addictive and although Amelia was hesitant at first it quickly becomes hard to resist Asher's charm. I loved them together but knowing their were secrets lurking in the background it kept me on the edge in anticipation.

Natasha Madison is a wonderful story teller. I love her ability to write small town romance, with sweet heartfelt characters and suspense. I cannot wait for the next one!

5 Star review of Southern Secrets (Southern Series #7) by Natasha Madison

The seventh book in this inter connected series and was just as entertaining as the previous books in this series. This is Amelia and Asher’s story and oh what a story it was. From the first chapter Natasha Madison wove a story that you couldn’t help but become invested in.

There was romance and suspense in Southern Secrets, both of which Ms.Madison writes well. The writing is strong and I enjoyed the flow of this fast paced romantic love story. The characters are easy to relate to and I fell hard and fast for swoon worthy Asher.

Asher and Amelia are made for one another and their journey to a happily ever after is full of twists and turns that you will find hard to resist.

This series has been so good and Southern Secrets is no exception. Perfect small town romance with bit of suspense and always fantastic character back stories!

Asher and Amelia's book hooked me from the beginning and I couldn't wait to see how their relationship would develop. With friends to lovers romances I love the angst of the lead up to that pivotal moment and how it all blooms from there. Great addition to this series!

Southern Secrets is a sweet, emotional standalone story in the Southern series.

Both Amelia and Asher are trying to go through life while keeping their hearts protected. They want to fight their attraction to each other but that is a losing battle for these two.

"I fell in love, and I didn’t even know it was happening until it did."

Asher has to learn to trust and reveal the secrets of his past but his journey is so worth the angst.
I love this authors storytelling and the way she throws in a real ‘gasp worthy’ twist!

A great read that pulled me quickly. I just had to know more about Asher and Amelia and their stories. His story pulled at my heart. Hers, why are people so cruel. Both have secrets, and wait till you find out his!

The journey we follow with these two will pull at your heart, and the slow burn keeps you reading. I love Amelia’s strength and work ethic, and Asher is just a wonderful human being. So be prepared for an emotional rollercoaster, but worth it in the end!

This series has been one of my favorite escapes since the beginning. I am waiting for the next one.

I received an advanced copy from the Author; this is my voluntary review.

This series keeps getting better and better! I love that Natasha can continue this series with the next generation, and the intertwining of the characters makes this book extra special for me because I love getting updates of sorts from past characters and couples. Asher has come to town and after having nothing in life, he still refuses to take or be gifted anything even after being in town and building friendships while also working with the group. But when the barn he is living in is torched on fire, everything changes. Amelia has always been attracted to Asher, but he’s so closed off she questions if there would ever be a future with him. Traumatized from her past relationship, she is determined to never be dependent on anyone in her life. This story has some crazy twists I never saw coming, but it totally takes the book to the next level! I can’t get enough of this series and Natasha’s writing, and I continue to be obsessed with her stories! I am so excited to see who’s next in this series!

Story :
Hero - Asher works and lives in a barn, one day said barn was on fire and everything was burnt to ashes. Heroine - Amelia offers him to stay at her house and their romance begins.

What I don’t like :
•MCs spending first half of the book dancing around each other and talking about their past.

•What’s with all those women throwing themselves at Asher as if he’s the only man on Earth. I’m far from being impressed reading about it 🙄

•Amelia was *IMO* overreacting when the truth came out. I wish I could write myself into the book to b*tch slap her 😑

On positive notes :
•MCs are decent people though I like the H more.
•Side characters are very supportive, the way everyone treats hero like he’s family is sweet.
•Lovely epilogue or epilogues in this case.

Safety-gang :
This book is SAFE.
No virgins.
No OW drama. Mild OM drama : heroine’s ex shows up for like 2 minutes.
No scenes with OP.
Push/pull from both.
HEA. Married with kids.

⭐️ 5 "Under Your Skin" Stars ⭐️
This seventh book in the Southern Series is without a doubt my favorite! I loved everything about this small town romance that gave me butterflies in the stomach. The romance, the suspense, everything was so well balanced.

I adored Amelia and her sassy personality. Her relationship full of banter with Asher was just so entertaining to witness with their sizzling underlying attraction. I enjoyed every single moment between these two and all the interactions with their family. Asher is a great guy. He didn't have an easy childhood, being raised in foster care. He is reticent to open his heart to Amelia, despite his strong chemistry with the girl. When he becomes her somewhat roommate, the lines starts to blur and Amelia shows him the power of love and family. Seriously, those two had me swooning so hard over their perfection as a couple with scenes full of feels and passion.

The intrigue was interesting and kept me hooked all read long. I didn't know what to expect and was surprised a few times. Southern Secrets was a fantastic novel!

Wow! Just wow, is all I have to say about this story. It's one of the best books I've read for a while. In saying that the whole of the series is fantastic and some of the best books written by Natasha Madison. The emotions that come from these stories are just heartbreaking to read. The secret and twist in this book, comes out of left field and I wasn't expecting it at all.

Asher and Amelia are fighting the attraction. One they both deny is there. And after tragedy strikes, they are thrown together. Bring on the cat and mouse antics. It was great to read and although I wanted to give them a kick in the ass to just act on it. I enjoyed the build of the relationship. It was angst fueled but totally hot. When these two collide its beautiful, passion fuelled and in parts heartbreaking.

This book is fantastic and a huge and total recommend from me. I stayed awake till 2am as I just couldn't leave it until I had finished it. Its just brilliant and I can't wait for the next book.

Another emotional twisty romance to add to the Southern Series!! Asher is such a great male lead, he is deeply impacted by his past experiences, but a whole lot of wonderful. I love how he is willing t work so hard to get his girl. In true Natasha Madison fashion, there is lots of chemistry and love between the main characters, but also a lot of big issues that are here to cause them problems. This whole series is perfect for readers that like some action and drama with their romance!

Wow. Just wow. Each new book blows me away in this series. Natasha has a knack for writing suspense romance and mixing it with sweet romance. This book was filled with secrets just like its title.

I absolutely loved Amelia and Asher together. The flirty banter in the beginning lent to sexy touches and swoony romance. I loved Asher's alpha protective side and the strong confidence of Amelia. The each have secrets but one comes with danger.

This series is my favorite and I love all these characters. I love the family unity and the small town. Natasha of course set us up for Reed's story and and can't wait for more.

Oh Asher has a secret all right and just wait till that reveled.....mind blown!
Amelia is headstrong and stubborn but has a soft spot for Asher, is he staying or is he leaving?
Keep in mind these are slow burns but it was worth the wait and the reveal! One of her best southern books, must read!

I am just loving this series and always look forward to reading the next one that the author brings out. I loved the story of Amelia & Asher. It had some suspense in it but really loved the emotional loving moments between the two lead characters that was built up from the beginning so it really left you guessing if they'd have a happy ending or not. I can't wait to see what is next in store in this series!

Amelia has her heart broken and is now super focused on making her bar the best it can be and most of all doing it all by herself without any help. Of course she has noticed Asher and they have a flirty relationship ever since they met but it has never been more than that. Asher has been through a lot since he was a kid and doesn't want to stay at one place but he feels at home here but when one fateful event happens, he doesn't have any other choice than to stay at Amelia's place. But it isn't as easy as it seems as somewhere deep down both have feelings for each other that they've kept hidden. When small things happen that makes it clear that there's a threat looming over them, both start to realise what's in front of them and maybe their relationship has a chance. But Asher has a secret that may destroy everything in its process...Will they find their way to each other?...

I just love Natasha Madison’s books and Southern Secret was a perfect addition to this series. It is book 7 in the Southern series and each book is filled with great characters, stories, a little suspense and a whole lotta romance.
Amelia has been hurt before. She wants to be able to have the life she wants and not rely on a man for anything after a broken heart.
Asher has a broken past, and doesn’t stay in one place for very long. Get out before you get attached. That is until he meets Amelia, and sparks ignite.
There is so much sweetness between them, and lots of chemistry. The caring way of Asher shines through, even though, he is broken.
Asher has a secret he is hiding that leads to some angst, and suspense as the connections of the past are discovered.
These two are so good together. They complement each other, and Asher is such a protector, always putting Amelia ahead of his own wants and needs.
Each book in this series has been amazing, and each with their own secrets and twists.
It’s a book filled with small town romance, hidden secrets and family above all else. It’s a series and book not to be missed! Natasha Madison has another winner with Southern Secrets!

My Oh My, Southern Secrets is a book not to be missed. I sort of went in blind, meaning I knew who the main characters were, but I had no clue as to what was going to happen because I didn’t even read the blurb.

Southern Secrets is a slow-burn, but a very good slow-burn. It’s was attention seeking, and was filled with massive amounts of amazing tension, that had my skin singeing from the burn.

Amelia and Ashers story is an original that keeps up with the flow of the rest of this series. The development flowed with a pace that just kept the momentum going. The story didn’t lag or go too fast, It honestly was a well rounded story with depth that carved my heart out. The romance aspect was honestly all consuming. It brought all the feels out of me, from the authenticity that these characters showcased, to the sensitivity of how they felt.

As for the main characters Asher and Amelia. They were to die for. They were truly themselves without a thought. Both humble and kind, brought on by what life has shown them. I also really enjoyed seeing past characters, and how they were included in Southern Secrets. Now, I can’t wait for the next book in this series.

Southern Secrets by Natasha Madison was a small town, steamy romance with just the perfect touch of suspense. This is book 7 in the interconnected Southern Series. I was so excited for Amelia's story, and it didn't disappoint. Connor Crais and Jo Raylan narrate the audiobook.

This book hooks you right from the start, and then the secrets start to unravel! The chemistry between between Asher and Amelia is magnetic, but both have some baggage to talk about and overcome. I love that they both find a way to comfort and confide in each other. Then, wow…holy plot twist! I was shocked and did not see that coming! Thus, the perfect title for this book!

Connor Crais and Jo Raylan are the perfect pairing for this audio. I loved everything about Jo's performance of Amelia. She showcased Amelia's tough exterior and vulnerable interior flawlessly! Connor's hint of Southern drawl in his performance really brought out all of Asher's painful past, and his passion for Amelia. These two narrators are one clicks for me.

Hoooolllly crumb-a… let me mention I LOVE the Southern Series. Yes I have my favs and truthfully this at the top of the list. This author got me.

Ms Madison took me on a beautiful journey, weaving me in and out of Asher and Amelia’s telling. As I go back into the world of beloved characters with a setting full of memories from previous books, I settled in to get comfortable with some intrigued but I felt like I knew what I was getting. I was an IDIOT. I know what this author has done to me before and she did it again. The big moment in this book blew me away. OMG my heart is racing and stomach is in knots thinking about it. SO FLIPPING GOOD.

Ok I jumped the gun a bit. Let me go back and talk about our couple. I love who Asher and Amelia are as individuals and a couple. Amelia comes from our series family who make my heart overflow with emotions. Asher… I want to cry as I think about who and what he came from. His life in foster care is devastating to think about. Keep reading. It is FREAKING AMAZING what happens. Wink.

Ugh everyone needs to experience this book. Truthfully you should check out the series cause it is interesting, unique, and knows how to bring on some steamy. Umm this couple does all that and more. Fanning myself.

Yikes. I feel like I was rambling all over the place with this review which is indicative of how much it blew my mind and left me an emotional mess. So all I have left to say is, HAPPY READING EVERYONE! XOXO

I am ADDICTED to this series and Southern Secrets is no exception to this. The moment I started reading I was hooked. This story sucks you in with the suspense and the chemistry.

I love Amelia. She works hard, she is independent and she is strong. She has been burned majorly in the past when it comes to a relationship and she isn’t going to let that happen again. She built up walls and she focuses on her work and herself. Asher, he hasn’t had it easy in his life, but he is hardworking and he is protective, especially when it comes to Amelia.

There is a TON of chemistry between Amelia and Asher which I loved from the start. I couldn’t get enough of the two of them. They are both holding back from each other when it comes to their pasts, however, eventually all those secrets do come out.

The romance, the steam, the suspense, the small town, family vibes. This book has it all!

If you’re looking for a small town, suspense romance this is one to read!

I have absolutely loved reading the Southern series by Natasha Madison, and I highly recommend it. In Southern Secrets, the seventh book in the series, we get Amelia and Asher’s story. Though each book can be read as a standalone, I would recommend reading the entire series as they are great reads and are interconnected couples and history. Like the other books in the series, this was a sweet small-town romance with so many feels.

I loved Amelia. She was strong and determined and does not need a man in her life. Or so she believes. Maybe she just has not found the right now. Asher stole my heart. His childhood was not an easy one, but he has finally found a family that accepts him. He is sweet and caring but does not think he is worth some things. And that includes Amelia. Now they are roommates and finding themselves drawn to each other. Can they find their way to each other before it’s too late? Add in some suspense and you have one charming and captivating read!

Happy reading!

Southern Secrets is the seventh title in the Southern series featuring Amelia, the daughter of Kallie and Jacob who were featured in Southern Chance.
Amelia and Asher’s story is an emotional small-town romance with a touch of intrigue and drama.
Amelia is strong, stubborn, resilient, hardworking, and most importantly driven and determined to succeed on her own.
Asher is a quiet, reserved, and hardworking hero, who had a heartbreaking past, having grown up in foster care, he has no roots and is a bit of drifter.
Both have underlying vulnerabilities, resulting in trust issues from their past, but despite how much they fight their attraction they are undeniably drawn to each other, and their connection is full of passion and heat.
Overall another thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining addition to this series, with a twist that I didn’t see coming, and I look forward to the next addition to this series.

Ahh Asher.... he really is just gorgeous and Amelia is a very lucky lady!!
Asher is the perfect gentleman, an all round great guy and he has his sights set on Amelia... but how will she react when she learns all his secrets. His story will make your heartache and have you loving him even harder.
Amelia is one tough cookie.... determined is her middle name and I really loved her independent, self reliant attitude.
This pair together made me smile, the respect Asher showed Amelia and his understanding of her need to do things herself was really heartwarming.
Some great twists in the story that made my eyes widen and a really lovely epilogue.
Thanks again Ms Madison for another wonderful slice of Southern life and these big hearted families.
